Wedding Suites Kismet Letterpress, 2012 Kismet Letterpress specializes in custom designed hand printed papery things. As the owner, designer and printer, I meet with clients and custom design their printed pieces from wedding suites, business cards, note cards and personalized stationery. I then print them letterpress. I die-cut, trim, fold and bind all pieces. The wedding suites on these two pages feature hand lettering, diecut corners and blind impressions. Printed on Crane Lettra 110lb. page 2

It is on Mystic Chamber of Commerce's website and on sandwich boards acknowledging the business of the month award. WILD OOOOOOOOOO

SCAD MA Package Design 2012 Eat WILD is the campaign I developed to represent and support pasture based farming. This was a pro-bono project that was developed to give the Eat Wild organization a logo and a brand that is recognizable and fits with their purpose. The cheese making kit was developed to give the organization a branded item that they can sell to raise money for further research and support of local farmers who humanely raise their livestock and birds on pasture. The cheese making kit is meant to have a rustic feel and the blue and red are typical of old style surface graphics found on cheese wheels. The font, Love Potion has a hand drawn feel that doesn't take itself too seriously and complements the happy daisy the cow image. The package was designed to resemble a cheese wheel with all of the ingredients except milk in the two containers. The containers are die cut to hold a thermometer, directions booklet, cheese cloth, citric acid, salt and rennet.

EXPERIMENTAL TYPE Experimental Type Booklet SCAD, MA Typography, 2011 The objective of this project was to design a booklet that utilized typefaces in nontraditional ways but also retained the legibility and integrity of the idea that was being illustrated. Entitled Blood White, this project was developed to honor and remember the Tiananmen Massacre of 1993. I chose to juxtapose stark sans serif fonts with hand lettering that had a war torn look. I drew an Asian student kneeling in defeat after tanks and military sieged Tiananmen Square. My goal was to create a nontraditional booklet. I studied Algorithmic Mathematical Art which is the art of folding a shape into another entirely different shape. It is very complex and I decided to make a square convert to a pentaminoe. I felt the way the book opened and closed and the breaking of lines and diagonal folds further illustrates the violence and calculated madness of the Massacre.

LOGOS

Arena Football Mohegan Wolves 2002 I was approached to come up with the logo and look and feel of the Mohegan Wolves, an Arena Football team owned by Mohegan Sun. The color and wolf concept had been decided by the Executive committee and Mohegan Tribal Council. My job was to develop a wolf that was wolf-like but a not Husky. The challenge was to design a wolf that was menacing but as a mascot not scary to children.

CORPORATE DESIGN

Corporate Design Mohegan Sun 2006-present The HR department at Mohegan Sun contacted me to lead the project entitled Spirit of Aquai to be used in employee training and recruitment. The look they were after was to blend an Eastern Woodlands tribal imagery with history into booklets, fliers, postcards and folders so that prospective employees gain a more comprehensive understanding of the roots of the company along with their core values. The look I developed was a mixture of historical Mohegan images with clean lines, lots of white space, employee images and Spirit of Aquai symbols. The color palette is all natural with bursts of red to represent commitment.

Mohegan Hospitality CORE VALUES

Tribal and Casino traditions guide our employees to provide a uniquely Mohegan Sun experience. These high standards are met through a spirit of Welcoming ~ Mutual Respect ~ Cooperation ~ Building Relationships, this enduring tradition we call Spirit of Aquai. Now, Mohegan Sun welcomes employees to their land beside the river to become a part of a world class destination. “Spirit of Aquai” is the bridge which links, Mohegan History to Mohegan Hospitality. Our employees are committed to demonstrating each principle of the Spirit of Aquai, which supports Mohegan Sun’s Core Values:

Aquai, greetings. The Spirit of Aquai Orientation will be day one and day two of your employment with Mohegan Sun. You will receive a personal invitation either by phone or in the mail inviting you to attend this journey. If your position requires a uniform it will be prepared for you and available for pick-up at the end of your first day of Spirit of Aquai Orientation. All uniformed employees will wear the uniform on day two of the program.

Spirit of Aquai ORIENTATION

Spirit of Aquai draws from Mohegan Tribal history four principles which ensured the Mohegan people’s survival through hundreds of years of change. These same principles will carry Mohegan Sun into the next phase of growth and evolution…

• BLOWING AWAY THE CUSTOMER • BOTTOM LINE PERFORMANCE • CONTINUOUSLY STRIVING FOR PERFECTION • DEVELOPING PASSIONATE AND DEDICATED EMPLOYEES As a member of the Mohegan Sun team, we expect you to continue this high level of excellence and to become a part of this culture of pride. You will do this by setting the stage for excitement. Mohegan Sun employees provide an unequaled guest service experience. It is not just about how our employees interact with our guests, it is also how we look when we are providing guests’ service.

Corporate Design Mohegan Sun Times Newsletter 2000-2008 For eight years, I designed and laid out the Times newsletter that Mohegan Sun sent out to employees four times a year informing them of upcoming events and acknowledging employee achievements. Each newsletters theming was seasonal and the palette reflected the time of year. The example to the right showcases the expansion celebration and celebrities that participated in the event. page 17

Corporate Design Mohegan Sun 1998-2009 As lead designer of the art department in the Mohegan Tribal offices, one of my responsibilities was to design posters that were hung throughout Mohegan Sun announcing upcoming events. This is one example of thousands that I produced over 11 years.

Invitation Suite Mohegan Tribe, 2008 One of the most important yearly events for the Mohegan Tribe is the annual Federal Recognition Celebration. It is an extravaganza held at the Mohegan Sun. As lead designer, my job was to design the invitations, posters, menus, gift cards and credentials. The theme for this particular year was Safari. Inspired by Bogart in Casablanca, I designed the look to have a '30s  –'40s vintage feel with a mix of four typefaces and glyphs.

SIGNAGE

Wayfinding Signage Mohegan Sun 2006 I was lead designer for the wayfinding signage that was placed strategically throughout the casino to tell the story behind the design motifs that decorate the entire casino. It is an audio tour by which the visitor stops at each station and learns a little history about the culture and Native American imagery. The casino is filled with marbles, granites and natural stones. The signage I created was meant to complement the existing materials and design motifs.

page 22

SIGNAGE Wayfinding Signage Mohegan Government Building, 2011 I was asked to develop wayfinding signage for the Mohegan Government Building. There was a total of 350 signs including room, exit, stairs, emergency, fire, gym, cafeteria, library, court, meeting rooms, elevators, bathrooms, and department signs. All signs had to be ADA compliant and visually compliment the design and materials of the building's interior. The interior was a combination of natural stone, wood, terrazzo and large windows. For my theme I chose to recreate some of the moons in the Mohegan tribal calendar. I designed the moons to tell a story. Corn Planting and Peeping Frog Moon are shown to the right. The four main images represent the four seasons and the four edge images point to the four directions. I designed the signs to have silver metallic raised lettering and symbol with a ghosted etched symbol on clear 3/8"plexi with a black plexi backing with 1/4" spacing mounted with stand offs.

FINE ART

Fine Art Pastel 2000 – 2010 Much of my personal artwork is figurative. Subjectively, it is the story of woman that I am intrigued by and attempt to illustrate. Most of the stories I tell depict the routine things in life, as it is the little things that dictate much of life. I am drawn to activism and much of my artwork is decidedly political commentary circulating around the story and plight of women.
