Over the past few decades, flood protection has become increasingly important. DHV is deeply engaged in current efforts to bring flood defenses up to required safety levels. In addition to comprehensive programs in the Netherlands, we are involved in a large number of international projects, such as New Orleans, Aceh and Bangladesh.

DHV has extensive experience in land reclamation and dredging, which has been acquired on projects all over the world. This includes creating solutions for contaminated disposal sites. Our knowledge and experience have proven to be essential success factors, particularly when projects demand creative and unorthodox solutions.

Flood management is closely connected to spatial planning and area development, fields in which DHV leads. Flood risk management has evolved from traditional flood protection, which focuses on site-specific structural measures, to catchment-scale, integrated, flood risk management.

Land reclamation and dredging are often components of large multidisciplinary projects. These projects require input from a variety of specialties; such as land development, infrastructure, geotechnics, environment, ecology, flood protection and coastal zone management.
