Be Mindful…with our programmes in
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)
Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR)
If you are feeling disconnected from your life – if you want to spend less time being hijacked by the stresses and strains of work, home, family, or health – if you want to learn to live more fully in the present moment – and you are willing to commit yourself to spending an hour a day working on this – then this well established and tried-andtested class can give you the tools to change your life. We can all benefit from MBSR training: we all long to be centred and at ease with our lives. Duration 9 weeks (plus Sunday, 17 November 10.00-16.00) Half-term week of 28 October Tutor H elena Martin GRSM LRAM Dip Couns PGDip Mindfulness
Originally developed at one of the leading university hospitals in the US over 30 years ago to help manage chronic pain, MBSR’s reputation for helping people to deal with a wide range of problems is now worldwide. Research over three decades has shown that people who complete the course report: • Being better able to relax • Being less distressed by physical and psychological symptoms • Reduced pain levels and an enhanced ability to cope with chronic pain • Reduced anxiety and depression • Improved concentration and memory • Better sleep • Greater energy and enthusiasm for life • Improved self-esteem Research also suggests that mindfulness strengthens the immune system and develops areas of the brain associated with wellbeing.
Introduction to Mindfulness A session designed to introduce you to the methods and principles of mindfulness – “a taster” before committing to the 8 week programme. If you do decide to enrol for the full MBSR course, you will be entitled to a discount of £10 on the cost of that programme. Yoga
See pages 25-27 for more Yoga
Why do yoga? For one thing – it makes you feel good! It keeps you flexible and improves your stamina. It stretches your muscles, helps still your mind, improves concentration and boosts self-confidence. People report that they sleep better, experience fewer episodes of back strain and have less frequent headaches. A gentler approach to yoga designed for anyone with restricted movement, recovering from illness or operations, or simply for those of you who love yoga but don’t want the intense stretch! The class includes posture work, pranayama (breathing practices) meditation and relaxation.
