Positive Parenting 1: Helping Your Child Develop Emotional Literacy
with James Reynolds, Evidence-based Researcher & Author, who has for many years studied the emotional development of children and young people.
As parents, we frequently find ourselves at a loss to understand how best to respond (or not!) to the emotional challenges our children present. Guidance from books and so-called “experts” doesn’t necessarily work – and there is little real support out there to help us with that most difficult task of being a parent. While not claiming to provide all the answers, this workshop will give you a better understanding – derived from scientific research – of how to help your child become more emotionally literate. Saturday, 2 February 13.30-17.30 Cost: £35 includes refreshments Code: WPP1

Voice Dialogue: a path to greater self-awareness
with Rebekah Hirsch – Body-Mind psychotherapist, Voice Dialogue facilitator and trainer and graduate of the Barbara Brennan School of Healing.
We all of us have different ‘selves’ within us of which we are sometimes only vaguely aware – eg the pusher, the pleaser, the rebel, the playful child, the inner critic. Giving voices to them, allowing them to be heard and to express their different needs can be a remarkably powerful tool in achieving greater self-awareness and self-understanding. Voice Dialogue provides that tool: it is a technique developed nearly 50 years ago which is well worth learning! Saturday, 16 March 13.30 for 14.00-17.30 Cost: £30 includes refreshments Code: WVD1

owe yourself! It can immeasurably enrich your life. Mindfulness helps us to come into the present moment, to befriend ourselves and our experience, to develop a wider perspective on our thinking, and to learn new ways of being with the difficulties in our lives.
MINDFULNESS-BASED STRESS REDUCTION (MBSR)
People who practice mindfulness report: • Reduced stress and a greater sense of calm • An enhanced sense of wellbeing • Improved self-esteem and greater confidence • Being less distressed by physical and psychological symptoms • Altered pain levels and an enhanced ability to cope with chronic pain • Better ability to focus and concentrate With its roots in Buddhist meditation, MBSR was developed nearly 40 years ago and is the classic course that brought mindfulness into the mainstream. Supported by extensive research, this course has been taught to many thousands of people worldwide.

Mindful Self-Compassion (MSC) is an empiricallysupported 8-week course, based on the ground-breaking research of Kristin Neff and the clinical expertise of Christopher Germer. With its foundation in mindfulness, MSC teaches principles and practices of self-compassion that enable us to respond to difficult moments in our lives with kindness, care and understanding. Rapidly expanding research demonstrates that selfcompassion is strongly associated with emotional wellbeing, less anxiety, depression and stress, maintenance of healthy habits such as diet and exercise, and more satisfying personal relationships. There will be a pre-course phone call with the tutor to help decide if the course is appropriate for you.
