We are an award-winning registered charity which for the past 33 years has provided innovative complementary health services for the community, frequently in partnership with the NHS and voluntary and statutory organisations.

Over the past 12 months, our team of over 30 therapists has provided a staggering 6,300 sessions – equivalent to more than 120 each week. CREDENTIALS

The Counselling Service is an organisational member of the British Association for Psychotherapy and Counselling (www.bacp.co.uk tel 01455 883300) and operates according to their guidelines. All our counsellors hold current DBS (CRB) checks, professional liability insurance, and all are individual members of a professional governing body.

Deciding to see a counsellor is a huge step and trying to find the right professional can be a daunting process. At the Centre, we have a large team of counsellors with many different specialisms and we take time to match you with the professional who we feel would best meet your needs. The service we offer is open-ended: your counselling will finish when you are ready to finish. There’s no need for a referral – simply contact us by phone, email or in person – and we will take it from there. Sessions are 50-60 minutes in length, and their frequency is tailored to your needs.

Community

For older people, those with mobility problems and those living with long term conditions, this is a fun, effective, gentle activity programme which combines the methods of the Alexander Technique with those of Adaptive Yoga.

The ballet training follows the method taught by the Royal Academy of Dance. Examinations are available for students and there may be opportunities to appear in shows.

Dress comfortably and dance in either bare feet or dance shoes. We regret that after the first class parents will not be able to remain in the classroom. After that session, parents will be asked to leave the room. If you feel your child is not yet mature enough to cope with this, then we would suggest waiting until they are older to enrol. MBSR Mindful Self-Compassion Mindfulness Yoga

is a gift that you owe yourself! It can immeasurably enrich your life. Mindfulness offers a way of changing the way you perceive the world, yourself and others. It presents a way of being which involves developing objective, non-judgemental awareness of what is happening in your internal and external space – in your thoughts, feelings and physical sensations.

MINDFULNESS-BASED STRESS REDUCTION (MBSR)

People who practice mindfulness report: • Reduced stress and a greater sense of calm • An enhanced sense of wellbeing • Improved self-esteem and greater confidence • Being less distressed by physical and psychological symptoms • Altered pain levels and an enhanced ability to cope with chronic pain • Better ability to focus and concentrate Whilst it has its roots in Buddhist meditation, the term as it is used today refers to a series of well-researched techniques largely based upon an 8-week mindfulness programme developed in the 1980s in America. MBSR is the original, classic course that brought mindfulness into the mainstream.

OUR TUTOR Helena Martin

A long-term meditator, Helena Martin trained for five years with the Centre for Mindfulness Research and Practice at Bangor University. She holds a Postgraduate Diploma (distinction) in Teaching Mindfulness plus Certificate of Competence in Teaching and is a Trained Teacher of Mindful SelfCompassion. She has taught MBSR regularly since 2010, previously working as a BACP Accredited Counsellor in GP surgeries and private practice.

Hilary Tucker Body Control Pilates Pilates is a body conditioning programme which helps build strength, flexibility, control and endurance – emphasising alignment, breath and development of a strong core. NB: Certain health problems could preclude participation in the classes.

Beginners This course will introduce Pilates principles during the first session and will cover basic Pilates exercises thereafter. Beginners/Improvers Basic exercises with more advanced options for those who have been studying Pilates for longer. Pilates principles will be reviewed in the first session. Improvers Suitable for those who have been at beginners’ level for more than 3 terms or by agreement with the class teacher. The programme offers a mixture of basic Pilates exercises with progressions to take students up to intermediate level exercises.
