TREASURES FINE ART AUCTION

3

CONDITION OF BUSINESS The conditions of business set up below are information guidance for prospective buyer and seller with any enquiries relating to buying or selling at the auction. We encourage you to read them wisely and thoroughly.

THE BUYER

Estimated Price Estimated price is the price range, which reflects the opinion of our specialist for the price expected to offer at the auction. This should not be relied on as a statement that this price is either at which the lot will sell or its value for any other purpose. Estimated prices are based upon prices recently paid at auction, and the condition of the artworks including the quality, rarity and history of ownership (provenance). Reserve Price The reserve is the confidential minimum price the seller is willing to accept and below which a lot not be sold. Buyer’s Premium Buyers are reminded that the price to be paid will be the sum of the final bid price plus the buyer’s premium. The rate of buyer’s premium for each lot is 22 % (twenty two percent) of the hammer price.

BEFORE THE AUCTION

Viewing Pre-sale viewings are strongly recommended for prospective buyers in order to examine the artworks thoroughly. Pre-sale viewing is open for the public at no charge and usually displayed for 2 (two) days prior to the sale. Condition Reports Condition reports are available upon request. They are statements of opinion and should not be relied on as statements of definitive fact. Descriptions of property are not warranties and that lot is sold “as is”. All goods are sold with all faults and imperfections and errors of description. Illustrations in catalogues are for identification only. It is strongly recommended that prospective buyers inspect and seek any independent expert advice to satisfy you as to authorship, attribution, authenticity, genuineness, origin, date, age, provenance or condition of lot. Registration If you are planning to participate in the auction, you will need to register with us at the registration desk, to complete a bidder registration form and to receive a bidding number to identify you if you are a successful bidder. Registration can be made during the viewing period or 30 minutes prior to the sell.

THE AUCTION

Bidding All artworks are auctioned in consecutive numerical order. Bidding is done in Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) in incremental price raise. The auctioneer will accept bids from those present in the saleroom or absentee bidders participating by telephone or by written bid left with TREASURES in advance. The lot being offered is usually illustrated on a screen. Bidding Increments Bidding generally opens below the low estimate and advances in the following increments: Rp. Rp. Rp. Rp. Rp. Rp. Rp. Rp.

Absentee/ Written Bids If you cannot attend the auction in person, you may bid in other ways. The most common is written bids. Written bids are written instruction given to TREASURES to bid for you on one or more lots up to a maximum amount you specify for each lot. There is no charge for this service. Written bid forms are available 7 days before the sale and returned to TREASURES within 24 hours before the sale or by fax to (021) 351 0707. Telephone Bids If you cannot attend the auction, TREASURES will execute on behalf of your bid by telephone. Please make arrangements for this service at least 1 (one) day before the sale. It is advisable for you to leave your maximum bid, in case you are unable to reach us by phone. Successful Bids Successful bidder will be indicated by the fall of the auctioneer’s hammer after reaching or exceeding the reserve price. TREASURES will record the bidder number of the buyer. Under the auctioneer’s discretion bidding may be reopened. Unsold lots When a lot fails to sell, the auctioneer will not announce a bidder’s number. Lots unsold will be returned to the consignor usually after a week in case there are any post sale offers.

Willem Dooijewaard Born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, 1892. He studied arts and craft in Amsterdam for three years. He once worked as administration staff for Sumatra Plantation Company in 1913. He first visited Bali in 1918 then traveled extensively throughout the island to paint. He also went to Europe as well as remote areas in Asia and North Africa. Most of his works were absorbed from the local cultures that enabled him to paint unusually intimate portraits. He died in his homeland, Amsterdam, 1980.

Rudolf Bonnet Born in Amsterdam, 1895. He studied art at the Hendrick de Keijser-school, the Rijksschool voor Kunstnijverheid and the Rijksacademie in Amsterdam. He visited Indonesia in 1936 and stayed in Bali from 1931 – 1941. He helped establish the Museum Puri Lukisan and together with Walter Spies founded the Pita Maha Artist’s Association (1936). His works are amongst the collections of former President Soekarno, the Neka Museum, the Agung Rai Fine Art Gallery, the Rijksmuseum Kroller Muller Otterlo and the Sinerg Museum in Laren. During his existence in “Pita Maha” (the creative center for the modernization of Balinese art before the War), a painter society of young Balinese artists, he had successfully maintained a high artistic level of its member producing work of high quality. Bonnet’s figures are always unique and captivating. He has an extraordinary ability to portray impressive faces in a conventional way. Since the beginning of his career, he had deep interest in describing the farmers in their rural surrounding. His subjects are portrayed in an impressive way and full of compassion. He preferred to present his portraiture as a unit, as a single portrayal of a race.

Agung Mangu Putra Mangu Putra was born in Sangeh, Bali, on May 11, 1963. He graduated from the faculty of Art and Design at the Indonesian Arts Institute (ISI), Yogyakarta majoring Visual Communication Design (1990). His first exhibition was in Dewata Gallery (1987) at Taman Budaya Denpasar. Being a designer did not satisfy him as an artist then he decided to engage in full time painting in 1998. Since his first solo exhibition in Ubud (1990) his name was considered as valuable painter in Indonesia. Agung Mangu Putra’s art maintains a delicate balance between passionate imagination and cold calculation, and formal interest and moral commitment. In his works, Mangu Putra articulates his concerns about the disturbing condition of contemporary society; from the exploitation of nature to the devastating impact of pauperisation; from the search for the spiritual in the materialistic world to the place of nationalism in the global era. Solo exhibitions: 2008 - Silent Words, Gajah Mas Art Gallery, Ubud, Bali. 2007 - Mandala, Bidadari Art Gallery, Ubud, Bali. 2006 - Believe, Rupa Gallery, Surabaya, East Java. 2005 - Spiritual Landscape, Gajah Gallery, Singapore. 2003 - At the Edge of Bali’s Light (Di Tepi Cahaya Bali), Bentara Budaya, Jakarta. 2002 - Grunt of Water, Land, and Rock (Gerutu Air, Tanah Dan Batu), Santi Gallery, Jakarta. 2000 - Nature, Culture, Tension, Jezz Gallery, Denpasar, Bali.
