TREASURES FINE ART AUCTION
3
CONDITION OF BUSINESS The conditions of business set up below are information guidance for prospective buyer and seller with any enquiries relating to buying or selling at the auction. We encourage you to read them wisely and thoroughly.
THE BUYER
Estimated Price Estimated price is the price range, which reflects the opinion of our specialist for the price expected to offer at the auction. This should not be relied on as a statement that this price is either at which the lot will sell or its value for any other purpose. Estimated prices are based upon prices recently paid at auction, and the condition of the artworks including the quality, rarity and history of ownership (provenance). Reserve Price The reserve is the confidential minimum price the seller is willing to accept and below which a lot not be sold. Buyer’s Premium Buyers are reminded that the price to be paid will be the sum of the final bid price plus the buyer’s premium. The rate of buyer’s premium for each lot is 22 % (twenty two percent) of the hammer price.
BEFORE THE AUCTION
Viewing Pre-sale viewings are strongly recommended for prospective buyers in order to examine the artworks thoroughly. Pre-sale viewing is open for the public at no charge and usually displayed for 2 (two) days prior to the sale. Condition Reports Condition reports are available upon request. They are statements of opinion and should not be relied on as statements of definitive fact. Descriptions of property are not warranties and that lot is sold “as is”. All goods are sold with all faults and imperfections and errors of description. Illustrations in catalogues are for identification only. It is strongly recommended that prospective buyers inspect and seek any independent expert advice to satisfy you as to authorship, attribution, authenticity, genuineness, origin, date, age, provenance or condition of lot. Registration If you are planning to participate in the auction, you will need to register with us at the registration desk, to complete a bidder registration form and to receive a bidding number to identify you if you are a successful bidder. Registration can be made during the viewing period or 30 minutes prior to the sell.
THE AUCTION
Bidding All artworks are auctioned in consecutive numerical order. Bidding is done in Indonesian Rupiah (IDR) in incremental price raise. The auctioneer will accept bids from those present in the saleroom or absentee bidders participating by telephone or by written bid left with TREASURES in advance. The lot being offered is usually illustrated on a screen. Bidding Increments Bidding generally opens below the low estimate and advances in the following increments: Rp. Rp. Rp. Rp. Rp. Rp. Rp. Rp.

Written bid forms are available 7 days before the sale and returned to TREASURES within 24 hours before the sale or by fax to (021) 351 0707. Telephone Bids If you cannot attend the auction, TREASURES will execute on behalf of your bid by telephone. Please make arrangements for this service at least 1 (one) day before the sale. It is advisable for you to leave your maximum bid, in case you are unable to reach us by phone. Successful Bids Successful bidder will be indicated by the fall of the auctioneer’s hammer after reaching or exceeding the reserve price. TREASURES will record the bidder number of the buyer. Widayat Widayat paints freely, unburdened by anything except that he always attempts at infusing contents, giving significance to his imaginary space by means of symbols and indications. Watching Widayat’s works, we are taken to archaic natures and to the daily life, without perspective, and without criticize for something. We may remark them as beautiful and alluring, crowding our retinas, innocently accepting reality, fascinatingly interpretable, and mystically thrilling the space. Widayat is a famous painter with “decora-magic” style, which means the works were fully decorated and can produced magical effect. His works are based on his daily life experiences. Such experiences he imparts through the representations of human and animal figures, plants and imaginary beings, characterized by spontaneity and uninterrupted strong lines. Most of his paintings can give magnificent excitement by his ability in creating stylistic forms of trees, birds, fishes, or his favorite animal. The form also gives decorative motif with the use of hard and dark color producing textures and subtle impression. The present lot is considered as Widayat’s best work describing a huge old tree in Ankor Wat, Thailand.

Gerard Pieter Adolfs Gerard Pieter Adolfs was born 2 January 1898 in Semarang, Central-Java. He was a Dutch East Indies painter and architect. He was already well-known as a talented advertising illustrator, when in 1924 he was first introduced to the public of Yogyakarta as a painter, water-colourist and graphic artist. Each year Adolfs travelled for a few months. He had studios in Florence, Rome, Vienna, Budapest, prag and - together with his Japanese friend Leonard Tsuguharu Fujita - in Paris and exhibited his works of art internationally (Netherlands Indies, Japan, Singapore, USA, England, Holland, Sweden, Norway, France, and Switzerland. In his works he has always attempted to represent the light, color and the simple joy of life that impregnates the native scenes of the East. As can be seen from the works reproduced, he has a bold, vigorous style, applying his pigments with quick strokes of the palette knife. The main subjects of his works are scenes of Java, Bali, Japan (market sceneries, cockfights, landscapes and townscapes) and of North Africa. The human figures still featured in his compositions as mere “extras”, not as characters. Some of these paintings had a menacing, even macabre quality to them, due to the dramatic light, a result of chiaroscuro. Adolfs probably picked this up from Caravaggio (the inventor of chiaroscuro), whose works and those of other Old Masters, he had studied in Rome during his 1928 study tour.

Lee Man Fong Lee Man Fong was one of a rare artist who received honor by critics and collectors across Asia. As an Oriental artist, Lee man Fong has renewed and transformed Western oil painting by imbuing it with the essence of Chinese ink painting, achieving a mutual identity between subject and object, at the same time vastly opening the restrictions on traditional Chinese painting. In short, he created a unique “Man-fong style”. Lee Man Fong is famous painter who captures gold fishes in magnificent way. Some gold fishes are swimming freely in the space of an aquarium, still with his essential element by using the light, reflecting the sun’s radiance, Lee success to bring all the goldfishes as a depiction of calmness. The gold fish brings good luck in the form of tranquility, wisdom and longlife. In Lee Man Fong paintings, light is of prime importance and the subjects are consistently bathed in a luminous glow as presented in this lot. The background, unlike the flat, void spaces of Chinese paintings, is likewise illuminated by an almost mysterious glow of white sunlight. Therefore the subjects, reflecting the sun’s radiance, seem also to be lit from the back, creating the effect of “glowing silhouettes”. 114 LEE MAN FONG (Canton, China 1913 – Singapore 1988) Prosperity Oil on board: 102 x 50 cm Provenance: Private Collection, Jakarta RP 475.000.000 - 600.000.000

Agung Mangu Putra Mangu Putra was born in Sangeh, Bali, on May 11, 1963. He graduated from the faculty of Art and Design at the Indonesian Arts Institute (ISI), Yogyakarta majoring Visual Communication Design (1990). His first exhibition was in Dewata Gallery (1987) at Taman Budaya Denpasar. Being a designer did not satisfy him as an artist then he decided to engage in full time painting in 1998. Since his first solo exhibition in Ubud (1990) his name was considered as valuable painter in Indonesia. He held his solo exhibition at National Gallery, “Teater Rakyat”, Jakarta, 2010; “Silent Word”, Gajah Gallery, Singapore (2008), Mandala, Bidadari, Ubud-Bali (2007), “Belief, Rupa Gallery”, Surabaya (2005),etc. He also joined in several group exhibitions in Jakarta, Yogyakarta, Bali and other country. He received awards as the Best in Design Arts (during the 4th and 6th anniversary of ISI, as the finalist of Philip Morris Award in 1994 and Indofood Art Award 2002, Second Place, Jakarta. Mangu Putra’s works arise from intense contact with the world as a conscious expression of his main creative orientation. Representations of natural phenomena, along with the inner pulse of life, form the main stream of his search. The natural world, such as mountains and coasts, are depicted as identifiable objects. Some of his works with abstract designs imply natural images, such as the character of water and the texture and colors of earth or stone. Through his work he expressed his gratitude towards God creations. He gave specific themes on his work from which other painters did not pay attention to. Until now many of his works were collected by art collectors in Indonesia and overseas. This exciting and very talented artist has participated in a number of group and solo exhibitions throughout Indonesia and abroad.
