TREASURES FINE ART AUCTION

CONDITION OF BUSINESS The conditions of business set up below are information guidance for prospective buyer and seller with any enquiries relating to buying or selling at the auction. We encourage you to read them wisely and thoroughly.

THE BUYER

Estimated Price Estimated price is the price range, which reflects the opinion of our specialist for the price expected to offer at the auction. This should not be relied on as a statement that this price is either at which the lot will sell or its value for any other purpose. Estimated prices are based upon prices recently paid at auction, and the condition of the artworks including the quality, rarity and history of ownership (provenance). Reserve Price The reserve is the confidential minimum price the seller is willing to accept and below which a lot not be sold. Buyer’s Premium Buyers are reminded that the price to be paid will be the sum of the final bid price plus the buyer’s premium. The rate of buyer’s premium for each lot is 22 % (twenty two percent) of the hammer price.

BEFORE THE AUCTION

Viewing Pre-sale viewings are strongly recommended for prospective buyers in order to examine the artworks thoroughly. Pre-sale viewing is open for the public at no charge and usually displayed for 2 (two) days prior to the sale. Condition Reports Condition reports are available upon request. They are statements of opinion and should not be relied on as statements of definitive fact. Descriptions of property are not warranties and that lot is sold “as is”. All goods are sold with all faults and imperfections and errors of description. Illustrations in catalogues are for identification only. It is strongly recommended that prospective buyers inspect and seek any independent expert advice to satisfy you as to authorship, attribution, authenticity, genuineness, origin, date, age, provenance or condition of lot. Registration If you are planning to participate in the auction, you will need to register with us at the registration desk, to complete a bidder registration form and to receive a bidding number to identify you if you are a successful bidder. Registration can be made during the viewing period or 30 minutes prior to the sell.

THE AUCTION

034 RONALD DJALING (Jakarta, 1959) Bunga Merah, 2004 Oil on canvas: 130 x 200 cm Signed and dated, lower right: Ronald Djaling04 RP 18.000.000 - 20.000.000 Ronal Djaling was born in Jakarta, 11 February 1959. He held his fist solo exhibition in Jakarta, “Entitled Beauty amidst the Storm”. Ronald Djaling falls into a category of intriguing artists. The art school dropout commenced an unfailingly arduous journey of self-learning to re-create the authentic beauty of realistic images with a passion that he felt stirring deep within. His highly perceptive senses and love for realism speaks out loud and orator-like from his leaning canvases. Ronald unveils about 30 new works of art. They can be classified into mainly two categories - portraits of ordinary people going about their ordinary lives and breathtaking birds-eye landscapes. Farmer shows the man of the earth standing and looking over his teeming harvest with pride and elation. Once again Ronald creates magic of accentuating depth into the painting by working on the light and shadows. The sun-tanned crisp skin, crisscrossed by well defined wrinkles, as well as the expression in the eyes is amazingly alive. They almost talk to the onlooker and seem to jump out telling the story of his hard toil in the sun-kissed fields. The feeling persists long after one would walk away from Ronald's artwork that had been printed on a postcard as it would have looked just like a photograph. 14

093 RUSTAMADJI (b. Surabaya, Indonesia 1932 – d. 1990) Traditional Market Scene, 1986 Oil on canvas: 90 x 130 Signed and dated, lower left: Rustamadji, 1986 RP 200.000.000 - 300.000.000 Rustamadji studied arts under the tutelage of the Indonesian maestro S. Sudjojono when he was a member of the Sanggar Indonesia Muda (Young Indonesian Artist Association). Rustamadji painted in the realist-naturalistic style from the 1940’s to the 1960’s where his focused on the themes surrounding the daily life and experiences which were familiar to the people. Rustamadji paintings reflected the feeling of nationalism which became more popular after the more romantic-naturalistic Mooi Indie style of the 1930’s.Rustamadji was greatly influenced by the spirit of the time when he began painting as the Indonesian Revolution against Dutch colonial rule evoked sense of patriotism in him. His works were egalitarian with his underlying messages of social, economic, and political equality for everyone. Rustamadji was deeply inspired by people’s daily life and The Market Scene is one such example. He shows his expertise in presenting detailed forms, treatment of light and shadow, and creating a certain kind of mood. His mastery of the realistic technique captured a typical market scene full of boisterous activities, simple yet complete. The colors are mostly earthy and subdued, except in some of the clothing where contrasting colours brings the painting to life. There is great depth in this painting, and one can almost hear the chatter and bustling sounds of the market.

Lee Man Fong Lee Man Fong was born in Canton, China, 1913. He arrived at Singapore at young age then later moved to Jakarta. He has shown great artistic talent since young. He participated in the Association’s First Art Exhibition invited by the head of the Dutch East Indies Associations (1931). Lee Man Fong was a successful commercial artist before engaged in full time painting in 1941. His successful exhibitions in Bandung and Jakarta made him a fast growing artist at that time. He received scholarship from the Dutch government to study painting in Holland (1946). In 1952 he returned to Indonesia and gained more credits as well as acknowledgement. He was officially become a presidential palace’s painter and chief curators of its collection in 1961 and compiled a 5 volume edition of President Sukarno’s art collection. He died in 1988 and remembered as a western vigorous painter and an oriental unique oil painting painter. In Lee Man Fong paintings, light is of prime importance and the subjects are consistently bathed in a luminous glow as presented in this lot. The background, unlike the flat, void spaces of Chinese paintings, is likewise illuminated by an almost mysterious glow of white sunlight. Therefore the subjects, reflecting the sun’s radiance, seem also to be lit from the back, creating the effect of “glowing silhouettes”. As to the Chinese philosophy, Gold fish is believed that the fish can bring rich and prosperity.

Roedyat Martadiredja Roedyat always painted his subject from his personal exploration and examination. Even when using subjects that he often painted, he always felt that he had to see and inspect them each time. The artist was strong in completely analyzing the objects before him. The objects are no longer as physical representations or repetitive illustrations. Instead they become metaphors of the self. The representation of woman figure in the foreground, which somewhat expressionless face, perhaps only treated as a metaphor to describe the landscape of city scene in the background. The presentation of trees is more stylized and abstracted to the point of being decorative. The combination of the unusual green and blue color is quite actually typical of the artist’s painting.

Agung Mangu Putra Mangu Putra’s works arise from intense contact with the world as a conscious expression of his main creative orientation. Representations of natural phenomena, along with the inner pulse of life, form the main stream of his search. The natural world, such as mountains and coasts, are depicted as identifiable objects. Mangu’s magnificent landscapes and volcanoes are depicted as majestic, timeless and all powerful, yet quietly dormant. They are breathtaking, yet set within an atmosphere of silent intimidating strength. It is this aspect of his work that sets Mangu apart from his predecessors. Often the scenes are dotted with Balinese villagers dressed in traditional robes for worship, perhaps reminiscent of Chinese philosopher painter’s work depicting the omnipotence of nature. Here, Mangu’s concern are not ritual ceremonies but rather the traditional culture of worship for the land; the land that scared and fundamental to our existence. Pura Besakih is a temple complex in the village of Besakih on the slopes of Mount Agung in Eastern Bali, Indonesia. It is the most important, the largest and holiest temple of Hindu religion in Bali, and one of a series of Balinese temples. It has stepped terraces and flights of stairs which ascend to a number of courtyards and brick gateways that in turn lead up to the main spire or Meru structure, which is called Pura Penataran Agung. All this is aligned along a single axis and designed to lead the spiritual person upward and closer to the mountain which is considered sacred. The main sanctuary of the complex is the Pura Penataran Agung. The symbolic center of the main sanctuary is the lotus throne or padmasana which is therefore the ritual focus of the entire complex. A series of eruptions of Mount Agung in 1963, which killed approximately 1,700 people also threatened Pura Besakih. The lava flows missed the temple complex by mere meters. The saving of the temple is regarded by the Balinese people as miraculous, and a signal from the gods that they wished to demonstrate their power but not destroy the monument the Balinese faithful had erected.
