Hello friend, how’s it going?

Today I want to talk about something that often comes up during my consultation calls and it is:

MY EMAILS DON’T GET CLICKS!

Complex problem, easy solution. I can usually rectify this error within minutes because I am an email marketing ninja :P (tooting my own horn, but this is my house & I am amongst friends). ….anyway there are 4 parts to an email and I’ll list them in order of priority.

1. Sender Name:

This is probably THE MOST important thing in an email. If your name is associated to SPAM in the subscribers mind, no matter how many emails you inbox, you won’t get him/her to click on your links UNLESS however you use some crazy good email swipe copy. …The results from your email broadcasts/sendouts will be much lower if you’re a spammer in the eyes of the subscriber. On the flipside though, if you’re name SCREAMS AUTHORITY, you’ll get response rates like crazy. A prime example of this would be FRANK KERN.

He only sends emails for his own offers and he is super good at sales. He isn’t pushy at all.

At the end of the day, people don’t like being SOLD TO, they like to make INFORMED DECISIONS!

You job is to create the best possible offer and get it in front of the right audience but that is a whole new discussion.

Pro Tip:

(a) Send quality information and build a relationship with your subscribers;

(b) Maintain a sending schedule, so if you decide you send on every Wednesday and Friday, stick to that. If your content is good, people will be eagerly waiting for your emails. Think of it like addiction to TV Shows, they share content via visual media, you do it via email.

(c) Try to create authority in the head of the subscribers because it is not what you actually are, it is what your subscribers imagine you to be, that really matters.

After they see your name, they will make a decision whether they want to view your email or not. I call this the 2 second JUNK rule of email marketing (remember that I coined this, if it gets famous).

All it takes is 2 seconds for the subscriber to decide whether your email is worth opening or it is JUNK!

If the subject line is amazing and ignites curiosity it will get better results than a boring dull subject line for obvious reasons. I wrote a blog post for this here

An easy way to HACK email subject lines is to create a gmail account and subscribe to all the top copywriters and internet marketers in the world. And then let it sit for a week or so.

It’s like hacking someone else’s hard testing for your own benefit and it is not wrong since everybody does that and they probably did that too!

3. The preview of the email:

This is what the user sees after your name and subject line pass the the 2 second JUNK rule. If you nail this, you’re going to get much higher open rates. Think about it, don’t you do this all the time too?

In this time and age, time is scarce and everybody is bombarded with marketing, you just have 2 seconds to make an impact or you lose your subscribers interest forever…..or atleast till the next time you send out an email.

Pro Tip: Make the first line white and the smallest size possible. This way you can control what shows in the PREVIEW even if it isn’t the first line of the email body.

I’ll tell you the cold hard fact, KEEP IT SHORT! If you’re sending it to build a relationship with your list, send a short email leading to a blog post.

If you’re selling something, let the sales letter do the sales process. Short emails get the best results. A prime example of writing GREAT short emails is Chuck Mullaney (Founder of SendReach), he understands it. He infact, has it nailed.

Short = More Clicks! Trust me! I know…. Conclusion:

2. Use good subject lines, swipe subject lines from the successful marketers.

3. The preview is important so make sure your first line is EPIC and invoked curiosity.
