Fabric Dictionary COTTON BROADCLOTH - 97% COTTON, 3% POLYURETHANEELASTOMER Broadcloth—often referred to as poplin–is a tightly woven fabric with a very simple over-under weave and very little sheen, which makes it nice and professional. Broadcloths are great for guys looking for as little texture as possible in their fabrics. They are generally a thinner, lighter fabric. COTTON SHIRTING - 78% COTTON, 18% NYLON, 4% ELASTANE Shirting Fabric is a broad term used to refer to a variety of fabrics, where the fabric is generally tightly woven and less sheer, making it an ideal shirt weight. Shirting fabric tends to have a high thread count and is usually yarn dyed, ensuring that the pattern is woven into the fabric. GAUZE - 67% NYLON, 33% SILK Any thin and often transparent fabric made from any fiber in a plain or leno weave. GAZAR - 100% SILK Gazar (also gazaar) is a silk or wool plain weave fabric made with high-twist double yarns woven as one. Gazar has a crisp hand and a smooth texture. Silk gazar is much used in bridal and evening fashion due to its ability to hold its shape. GEORGETTE - 95% SILK, 5% LYCRA Georgette (from crêpe Georgette) is a sheer, lightweight, dull-finished crêpe fabric named after the early 20th century French dress maker Georgette de la Plante. Originally made from silk, Georgette is made with highly twisted yarns. JERSEY - 34% VISCOSE, 23% NYLON, 8% ELASTANE, 5% POLYESTER Jersey is a knit fabric used predominantly for clothing manufacture. It was originally made of wool, but is now made of wool, cotton, and synthetic fibres. The fabric can be a very stretchy single knitting, usually light-weight, jersey with one flat side and one piled side. LAME - 70% SILK, 30% POLYESTER Lamé is a type of fabric woven or knit with thin ribbons of metallic fiber, as opposed to guipé, where the ribbons are wrapped around a fiber yarn. Lamé is also used for its conductive properties in the sport of fencing to make the over jackets (called lamés) that allow touches to be scored.
Fabric Dictionary WINDBREAKER - 100% NYLON A windbreaker or a windcheater is a thin coat designed to resist wind chill and light rain, a lighter version of a jacket. It is usually of light construction, and these days characteristically made of some type of synthetic material. WOOL PIQUE - 95% VIRGIN WOOL, 5% ELASTANE PiquĂŠ, or marcella, refers to a weaving style, normally used with cotton yarn, which is characterized by raised parallel cords or geometric designs in the fabric. PiquĂŠ fabrics vary from semi- sheer dimity to heavy weight waffle cloth. A knit fabric with a similar texture is used in polo shirts.
Fabric Dictionary PREVIOUS COLLECTION ABSTRACT LACE - 54% COTTON, 39% NYLON, 7% POLYURETHANE Lace is fine, delicate and woven from a variety of fibers. Lace refers to an open fabric that is created by looping, twisting or knitting threads in a specific pattern. ALLOVER PETALS MIKADO - 55% SILK, 45% COTTON This stiffer, blended fabric has a heavier weight, making it an ideal choice for structured dresses. It has a slight sheen, similar to duchess satin, but also a subtle texture. Mikado is commonly thought of as a winter fabric. This fabric consist of floral like designs (i.e. Rose petals, Orchid petals or an assortment of different flowers.) BAROQUE COTTON JACQUARD - 57% COTTON, 22% SILK ELASTANE, 21% POLYESTER Baroque means relating to or denoting a style of European architecture, music, and art of the 17th and 18th centuries that followed mannerism and is characterized by ornate detail. Jacquard is an intricate method of weaving invented by Joseph J.M. Jacquard in the years 1801-1804, in which a head motion at the top of the loom holds and operates a set of punched cards, according to the motif desired. The perforations in the cards, in connection with the rods and cords, regulate the raising of the stationary warp thread mechanisms. Jacquard knitting is a development of the Jacquard loom and its principles. Jacquard fabrics, simple or elaborate in design, include brocade, brocatelle, damask, neckwear, evening wear, formal attire, some shirting's, tapestries. It was originally a kind of lace with twisted silk. The name was afterward applied to heavy lace made with thin wires whipped around the silk and with cotton thread. The word guipure is no longer commonly used to denote such work as this, but has become a term of variable designation, and it is so extensively applied that it is difficult to give a limit to its meaning. It may be used to define a lace where the flowers are either joined by brides or large coarse stitches, or alternatively lace that has no ground. This fabric has a design of Baroque scrolls in the lace. BLURRED TOILE DU JOUY SILK SEERSUCKER - 95% SILK, 5% POLYAMIDE Seersucker is a woven fabric which incorporates modification of tension control. In the production of seersucker, some of the warp yarns are held under controlled tension at all times during the weaving, while other warp yarns are in a relaxed state and tend to pucker when the filling years are placed. The result produces a puckered stripe effect in the fabric BONDED SPONGE WOOL/CASHMERE - 65% VIRGIN WOOL, 22% COTTON, 7% CASHMERE, 6% POLYESTER The bonded sponge technique is a sponge that fused two fabrics together with heat. In this case, it allows the structure of the style to stay dominant and adds an extra layer of warmth with the wool side of the fabric. BRODERIE ANGLAISE - 100% COTTON An embroidery technique in which round or oval holes are pierced in the material (such as cotton), and the cut edges then overcast. These holes, or eyelets, are grouped in a pattern that is further delineated by simple embroidery stitches on the surrounding material. BRUSHED WOOL/CASHMERE - 90% VIRGIN WOOL, 10% CASHMERE Brushing is a finishing process for woven or knit fabrics in which brushes or other abrading elements are used to raise a nap (a fuzzy or downy surface). Brushed fabrics add a soft, slightly weathered, broken-in feel and touch to the garments. BULLION EMBROIDERY Bullions are very fine silver or gold metallic wire threads wound into a tubular shape. These tend to stretch more. The making process of the bullion thread originates in France and was used traditionally for Military uniforms on the epaulets (shoulders).
Fabric Dictionary CADY - 100% SILK Cady has a nice balance of stretch and structure. Most often applied to cotton, this finish holds it shape well, but is quite smooth with a hint of stretch. It has a very minimal sheen, almost to the point of being matte. CASHGORA - 50% FLEECE WOOL, 45% ANGORA, 5% CASHGORA A cross-breed of an Angora Buck and a Cashmere doe, the Cash Gรณra goat has fewer guard hairs than the Cashmere. The resulting fiber has the curliness of the Angora combined with the softness of the Cashmere, and is excellently suited for dying. CHANTILLY LACE A handmade lace named after the city of Chantilly, France, in a tradition dating from the 17th century. The most famous are silk laces introduced in the 18th century. Chantilly lace is known for its fine ground, outlined pattern,[ and abundant detail. The pattern is outlined in cordonnet, a flat untwisted strand. The best Chantilly laces were made of silk and were generally black, which made them suitable for mourning. The lace is produced in strips approximately four inches wide, then joined with a stitch that leaves no visible seam. CLOQUE JACQUARD - 56%POLYESTER, 29%POLYAMIDE, 15% SILK A raised effect Jacquard, usually knitted from two colors. Jacquard provides intricate versatility in designs and permits individual control of each of the warp yarns. COATING DOUBLE FACE WOOL - 94% VIRGIN WOOL, 5% NYLON, 1% ELASTANE This textile is made using the fibers from the hair of animals, such as goats, sheep, camels, or llamas, and comes in several different forms - from crepe, to gabardine, to worsted. Double face wool is a thicker fabric made of wool that is apparent on both sides of a garment adding a more sleek and clean look to each style. It can be found in a variety of different weights and patterns. COLOR BLOCK JACQUARD Jacquard is a patterned fabric. Intricate patterns or figures are created over these fabrics. They are woven on a jacquard loom, which differs from standard looms in its jacquard attachment (or punch card). In a jacquard loom, the warp yarns are individually controlled and not in groups. This allows for the creation of more complex designs. COTTON POPLIN - 96% COTTON, 4% SPANDEX A mid to heavy weight, densely woven fabric with a fine horizontal rib, a shiny surface. Poplin is easy to iron and doesn't wrinkle easily.
Fabric Dictionary COTTON SPACE DYED TWEED - 78% WOOL, 22% COTTON Space dyeing is a technique used to give yarn a unique, multi-colored effect. While a typical skein of yarn is the same color throughout, a skein of space dyed yarn is two or more different colors that typically repeat themselves throughout the length of the yarn. COTTON TWILL - 100% COTTON Cotton Twill is a type of material that consists of a cotton textile woven with the characteristic twill pattern of diagonal parallel ribs. These diagonal, parallel ribs give the fabric a very durable and attractive quality. CREPE - 96% VISCOSE, 4% ELASTHANNE A general classification of fabrics characterized by a wide range of crinkled or grained surface effects. Crepe has a slightly crinkly surface formed by twisted yarns. CREPE ENVERS SATIN - 73% ACETATE, 27% VISCOSE A fabric where one side is a satin weave, smooth and lustrous, and the other side is dull and creped. Although the fabric is reversible, we often use the crepe side as the face, and use the satin side for contrasting details. CRISP RADZIMIR - 78% POLYESTER 22% SILK A fine, lustrous silk fabric with embedded cross-rib used in women's clothing and often made with lengthwise ribs or a broken twill weave. DAISY EMBROIDERY ANGLAISE Broderie anglaise is characterized by patterns composed of round or oval holes which are cut out of the fabric, called eyelets, which are bound with overcast or buttonhole stitches. The patterns, often depicting flowers, leaves, vines, or stems, are further delineated by simple embroidery stitches made on the surrounding material. DAISY GUIPURE Also known as filed lace, is created on a ground of knotted net. That ground can either be made by the lace maker or in either the handmade or machine-made varieties. DENIM 100% COTTON A densely woven, twill weave. Like other twills, one finds the familiar diagonal ribbing on the back side of the fabric. Denim is a very resistant soft fabric. Denim is often mixed with other fibers, especially spandex or Lycra to give it a bit of stretch.
Fabric Dictionary DOUBLE CHECK TWEED Double check tweed is a medium heavy weight, roughly textured wool fabric, often featuring a twill weave, hounds tooth or herringbone design. A classically English look accompanies this durable fabric, which is popular in sport coats, jackets and hats. DOUBLE FACE WOOL CREPE Double face wool crepe is a fine, almost gauzelike fabric made of wool that is twisted to give it a slightly crinkled texture. It can be found in a variety of different weights and levels of sheerness. DOUBLE FACE WOOL TWILL This textile is made using the fibers from the hair of animals, such as goats, sheep, camels, or llamas, and comes in several different forms - from crepe, to gabardine, to worsted. Twill is an incredibly versatile fabric distinguishable by diagonal ribs on its face, and a soft, smooth finish. Gabardine, serge, and denim are all examples of twill fabrics. DOUBLE GEORGETTE - 94% Silk, 6% SPANDEX Georgette is quite similar to chiffon in drape and feel. It is only slightly heavier than chiffon and a bit less sheer. It is a lightweight fabric, often made of silk or from manufactured fibers such as polyester, with a crepe surface. End-uses include dresses and blouses. DUCHESS SATIN - 100% SILK Duchess Satin has the same shine as charmeuse, but has more body. This fabric is ideal for structured and sculptural gowns. FILIGREE SILK JACQUARD Filigree is a delicate kind of jewelry metalwork, usually of gold and silver, made with tiny beads or twisted threads, or both in combination, soldered together or to the surface of an object of the same metal and arranged in artistic motifs. The Jacquard technique is done on silk to create a shiny metallic finish. FLORAL DAMASK SATIN JACQUARD - 51% ACETATE 43% POLYESTER 6% NYLON A Floral Patterned fabric with a ground of one weave and a design in another, so that the patterned areas have sheen and reflect light. Damasks are always reversible, with the pattern weaves becoming the ground weaves on the reverse, so on a fabric with a plain ground and satin pattern front, the ground would be satin and the pattern plain on the reverse.
Fabric Dictionary FOIL GARLAND JACQUARD - 50% POLYESTER, 50% ACETATE Foil is a high gloss Mylar usually in metallic colors that pulls away from the clear backing. Sometimes it is referred to as foil paper and other times it is referred to as foil sheets. The foil is applied to the fabric using very high heat. Jacquard is an intricate method of weaving invented by Joseph J.M. Jacquard in the years 1801-1804, in which a head motion at the top of the loom holds and operates a set of punched cards, according to the motif desired. FOUR PLY SILK - 100% SILK Lightweight fabric with beautiful drape and less shine than charmeuse. This fabric is ideal for blouses and dresses with draped details such as ruffles. This fabric also is made of "crepe" yarns that are twisted to give texture. FRUIT BUDS MATELASSE JACQUARD - 93% POLYESTER, 5% SILK, 2% NYLON A medium to heavyweight luxury fabric made in a double cloth construction to create a blistered or quilted surface. Common end-uses are upholstery, draperies, and evening dresses. Woven fabrics manufactured by using the Jacquard attachment on the loom. This attachment provides versatility in designs and permits individual control of each of the warp yarns. Thus, fabrics of almost any type or complexity can be made. GABARDINE - 89% VIRGIN WOOL,11% SILK Great pant-weight fabric that offers structure. The silk in the wool/silk blend gives shine and soft hand feel for comfort and elegance. A traditional menswear fabric, this is easy to tailor. GUIPURE LACE from Old French guipure, from gulper to cover with cloth. A term used for lace of different kinds; most properly for a lace of large pattern and heavy material which has no ground or mesh, but has the pattern held together by connecting threads called bars or brides. Fabric Dictionary HOLOGRAPHIC CLOQUÉ Also known as Lamé. Pronounced "lamay", Lamé is a shiny evening wear fabric made from metallic yarns. LAME FLORAL JACQUARD Jacquard is a woven fabric manufactured by using the Jacquard attachment on the loom. This attachment provides versatility in designs and permits individual control of each of the warp yarns. Thus, fabrics of almost any type or complexity can be made. LIQUID SILK LAME - 45% Viscose, 29% SILK, 26% METALLIZED POLYESTER Originating in France and previously reserved for Royally, Silk Lame was hand woven using a glamorous combination of Silk and Metallic yarns. Our present day version possesses a glistening iridescent face and is widely used in creating extravagant high-end garments. LUREX FLORAL MATELASSE The French word, matelassé means “quilted,” “padded,” or “cushioned,” and in usage with fabric, refers to hand quilted textiles. Lurex means metallic thread. So this is meant to mimic the style of hand-stitched Marseilles type quilts made in Provence, France. This type of fabric can be either handstitched to create the decorative features of the fabric, or woven on a jacquard loom for the appearance of quilting. It appears to be padded, but actually has no padding within the fabric. In the 1960s, Oscar de la Renta designed suits and dresses using this fabric. Handbags are also designed utilizing the unique quilted fabric. LUREX MOIRE SILK FAILLE: Metallic watermark patterned Silk Faille. Moiré in its French form a type of textile traditionally of silk with a rippled or 'watered' appearance. In French, moirer, means 'to produce a watered textile by weaving or pressing LUREX STRETCH BROCATELLE - 65% NYLON, 24% POLYESTER, 11% ELASTANE A tightly woven jacquard fabric with a warp effect in the figure which is raised to give a puffed appearance. This fabric has a metallic like appearance as well as elasticity. MATELASSE - 49% ACETATE, 20% POLYESTER, 11% SILK, 11% METALLICIZED POLYESTER, 6% NYLON Double-weave with a raised blistered or quilted-effect pattern. The back of the fabric shows a fine plain-weave. Matelassé is made in all fiber types. It tends to be bulky and difficult to ease. It ravels badly, but its uneven surface hides stitching irregularities.
Fabric Dictionary METALLIC BAROQUE CLOQUE - 65% POLYESTER, 12% SILK ELASTANE, 12% POLYAMIDE, 11% METALLIZED POLYESTER Metallic is an inorganic fiber made from minerals and metals, blended and extruded to form fibers. The fiber is formed from a flat ribbon of metal, coated with a protective layer of plastic, which reduces tarnishing. Metal used in apparel fabric is purely decorative. Cloque is a fabric with an irregularly raised or embossed surface. METALLIC FLORAL BOUQUET CLOQUE - 58% RAMIE, 26% POLYESTER, 6% ACETATE, 6% SILK ELASTANE, 4% NYLON A fabric with irregularly raised or embossed surface. This fabric has patterns of a floral bouquet. MIKADO - 55% SILK, 45% COTTON This stiffer, blended fabric has a heavier weight, making it an ideal choice for structured dresses. It has a slight sheen, similar to duchess satin, but also a subtle texture. MOUSSELINE - 70% SILK, 30% POLYESTER Extremely lightweight fabric that contains metallic yarns. Perfect for draping a layered or extremely lightweight dress. Also holds embroidery well, adding texture and weight to this lightweight fabric. This fabric actually contains metal yarns, giving it its metallic shine, but the content of metal is small, so it doesn't have the properties of metal NAĂ?VE GARDEN FLOCKED GAZAR - 100% SILK A soft raised floral design on silk or wool fabric with crisp hand and flat, smooth texture. This is made with a photographic floral design. PLUSH VELVET - 72% RAYON, 28% CUPRO Fabric consisting of either silk or man-made material with a thick, soft pile that is formed of warp thread loops that are either cut at the end or left uncut. SILK TWILL - 96% SILK, 4% ELASTANE Lightweight fabric with medium shine and moderate drape. Makes beautiful semi-structured dresses and blouses. The prints on silk twill were inspired by vintage fabrics from the 1960s. We changed the print a bit, and put it into our colors, turning it into an original print. SLUB TWEED - 90% COTTON, 10% VISCOSE A medium to heavy weight, fluffy, woolen, twill weave fabric containing colored stubbed yarns. Common end-uses include coats and suits. SMALL POPPIES LAME JACQUARD - 76% ACETATE, 9% METALLIZED POLYESTER, 8% SILK, 7% NYLON Lame Jacquard accented with poppy flowers, is immensely soft in touch and has a remarkable drape. It is also known for its beautiful texture and lighter weight. SPANDEX SWIM - 84 % POLYESTER, 16% SPANDEX Spandex, Lycra or elastane is a synthetic fiber known for its exceptional elasticity. It is stronger and more durable than natural rubber. The yarns are characterized by their ability to recover from stretch. Fabric Dictionary STRETCH CADY Cady has a nice balance of stretch and structure. Most often applied to cotton, this fabric holds it shape well, but is quite smooth with a hint of stretch. It has a very minimal sheen, almost to the point of being matte. It is ideal for outdoor or daytime weddings and can appear a bit more casual than other fabrications. STRETCH GEORGETTE - 95% SILK, 5% LYCRA It is a sheer, lightweight, dull-finished crêpe fabric, which is made from highly twisted yarns. Georgettes’ characteristic is a crinkly surface which makes it springier and less lustrous than the closely related chiffon. STRETCH TWILL - 98% COTTON, 2% ELASTANE Stretch cotton twill fabric woven with a fine parallel and diagonal rib pattern. Because of this structure, twills generally drape well and withstand higher wear and tear. This twill woven fabric has an excellent stretch across the grain for comfort and ease. TAFFETA - 90% COTTON, 10% VISCOSE A plain weave fabric which is stiff but smooth, with a crisp finish and a shiny surface. The fabric rustles as one walks. TEXTURED SINGLE FACE WOOL - 100% VIRGIN WOOL Textured wool that is easy to tailor into suits. This textile is made using the fibers from the hair of animals, such as goats, sheep, camels, or llamas, and it comes in several different forms from crepe, to gabardine, to worsted. TOILE DU JOUY MIKADO - 55% SILK, 45% COTTON This stiffer, blended fabric has a heavier weight, making it an ideal choice for structured dresses. It has a slight sheen, similar to duchess satin, but also a more subtle texture. Toile is a type of decorating pattern consisting of a white or off white background on which a repeated pattern depicting a fairly complex scene, generally of a pastoral theme such as (for example) a couple having a picnic by a lake. The pattern portion consists of a single color, most often black, dark red, or blue.

TWO TONE RIBBON TWEED - 40% ACRYLIC, 31% WOOL, 26% POLYAMIDE, 3% POLYESTER Tweed is a rough-surfaced woolen cloth, typically of mixed flecked colors creating a two toned appearance. WOOL BOUCLÉ - 94% WOOL, 6% POLYAMIDE Textured wool that is easy to tailor into suits. Very comfortable but lightweight enough to make a Summer/Pre-Fall suit. Boucle yarns have what appear to be knots and loops, giving them a variegated texture that makes the fabric more interesting.
