LPDDR5X: MEMORY PERFORMANCE THAT PUSHES THE LIMITS OF WHAT’S POSSIBLE Authored by Raj Talluri, Senior Vice President and General Manager-Mobile Business Unit, Micron Technology LPDDR5X builds on that performance foundation and will unleash more AI- and 5G-powered features in devices across all segments. In the nearly 30 years I’ve worked in the semiconductor industry, one of the most exciting things for me is to see how memory and storage innovation has transformed the user experience. By leading Micron’s Mobile Business Unit, I have experienced this innovation firsthand with Micron’s recent LPDDR5X DRAM launch announcement. Advancements in mobile low-power double data rate (LPDDR) DRAM technology provide the data foundation that helps enable the features and applications in the smartphones we carry with us every waking moment of our day. Innovation in the smartphone memory and storage subsystem combined with the proliferation of artificial intelligence (AI)-powered applications and faster 5G networks are bringing new, unique user experiences that are transforming what’s possible today and in the future. LOW-POWER DRAM INNOVATION SUPPORTS HIGH-BANDWIDTH USER EXPERIENCES Each new generation of mobile memory has unleashed the potential for more powerful and efficient mobile experiences. Thinking back to 2012 when JEDEC first released the specification for LPDDR3 memory, who could have predicted that our phones’ GPS sensor would make turn-by-turn navigation such a natural part of our daily driving experiences? That one feature alone provided a foundation to help launch entire industries for ride-sharing and home-delivery services, which have changed the game for what’s possible in the transportation and dining industries and made our lives a little bit easier. Fast forwarding to as recently as 2020, LPDDR5 DRAM brought even more memory performance to 5G-enabled smartphones, increasing the memory bandwidth necessary to feed massive amounts of data to AI engines and process data fast enough to reduce data bottlenecks. More memory bandwidth contributed to seamless 4K video livestreaming, advanced mobile gaming and AI-powered computational imaging on your smartphone.

LPDDR5X PERFORMANCE AND POWER EFFICIENCY UNLOCK FUTURE CAPABILITIES We see smartphone manufacturers and chipset vendors bringing to life more efficient and powerful capabilities built on LPDDR5X performance. Micron LPDDR5X supports data rates up to 8.533 Gbps — up to 33% faster performance than previous-generation LPDDR5 — making it the world’s fastest mobile memory. LPDDR5X also delivers up to 24% more power efficiency than previous-generation LPDDR5 memory allowing users to create, share and enjoy their mobile experiences longer between daily charging. LIFE’S MOST PRECIOUS MOMENTS COME TO LIFE IN MICRON MEMORY LPDDR5X performance helps unlock the untapped potential of what’s possible with computational imaging. Thirty-three percent more bandwidth enables the AI engines in systems on chips (SoCs) to access photos and video faster, making possible faster shoot speeds and simultaneous video feeds from multiple cameras. This increased bandwidth will enhance camera features that have become ubiquitous across all levels of smartphones — from budget to flagship. Imagine capturing life’s most precious moments but with substantially improved features compared to today’s smartphones — larger image sensors, more cameras and new computational imaging features that helps you take professional-like photos and videos. LPDDR5X performance also helps achieve an up to 50% increase in night-mode resolution for crisper, clearer photos and shoot speeds up to 35%5 faster. In addition, LPDDR5X enables bringing features like portrait and low-light modes to video, giving you the ability to shoot high-definition video as stunning as your photographs — even in low-light conditions.
PERSONALIZED SMARTPHONE EXPERIENCES ARE AS UNIQUE AS YOU ARE AI combined with machine learning (ML) will continue to expand the possibilities of what our smartphones can learn from our daily routines and preferences. Through this learning, our smartphones will become more personalized to improve our user experience and streamline our lives. This ability to understand the user, situation or different environmental variables is called contextual awareness. Through contextual awareness, the massive amount of data that is generated and consumed on your smartphone and ingested through your various smart devices is collected and processed within your smartphone’s powerful AI engines. Predictive insights are curated just for us based on how we uniquely use our smartphones in our daily lives: As a result, our smartphones become smarter, more intuitive and more predictive. As your browsing, viewing and other behaviors differ from mine, your smartphone will behave differently, create personalized recommendations and take actions based on what it has learned about you. Imagine the possibilities of your day powered by contextual awareness. Your smartphone has access to your calendar and the first appointment for the day. With this context, it could recommend a wake time for the day, schedule your smart coffee machine to make your preferred brew at the exact time you walk into the kitchen, have your smart speaker play your favorite podcast or morning playlist — all proactively through no action on your part. From there, you could receive a notification that it’s time to begin your commute to the office. Your smartphone could command your car to power on, pull up to your driveway and take you to the office by the most efficient route. It could learn this route by communicating with other cars’ cameras and traffic lights via cellular vehicle-to-anything (C-V2X) communication. Once you’re in your vehicle, cameras and sensors in your smartphone could monitor your mood and play your preferred music, podcast or news. LPDDR5X mobile memory can help provide the performance and efficiency to take this personalization to the next level.

The channel partners are an important aspect as far as business growth is concerned. The channel partners serve as one of the key pillars in the success of any brand. Commenting on the tips for channel partners to help them achieve the sales targets, Anil Sethi, Dell Technologies India said, “We are looking for new ways of working, learning, and living with technology as the enabler. In 2022 we will see; Hybrid cloud for the hybrid workforce, Edge opportunities will come into focus; Edge innovations will create urgency for Telcos to accelerate 5G and Intelligent PCs will adapt to hybrid, hyper-connected users. Dell is focused on key six strategic technologies such as Multi-cloud, Edge, 5G, AI/ML, Data Management and Cybersecurity to enable end-to-end, modern IT systems for future. Our focus on sectors like healthcare, online collaboration, education, tele-communication, and digital cities will be more now than ever. These apart, the various consumption models like – FlexOn-Demand, and Project APEX – will help us (and our partners) to meet customers’ expectations and address their demands in the new “as a service” world.” “One of the most important things is to know the product and to achieve partners’ goals, we at ASUS conduct seminars and offer in-depth training to them. This enables partners to have an upper hand when selling the products because it gives them detailed knowledge of the product and allows them to field questions from customers” commented, Vinay Shetty, ASUS. “The next thing would be to diversify. Selling tried-and-tested products is a sound business strategy but time and again, one must gauge the market perception by selling a different product. ASUS Components’ pre-dominant segments are motherboards and graphics cards but that didn’t stop us to launch products in other segments like gaming peripherals, networking, displays, or promising categories like Mini PCs and servers.” Bijoy Alaylo, TP-Link stated, “Organize and utilize the new normal. Back to the normal now, businesses will have to get up and going around to grab the orders and scale up their revenue. Newer avenues have come up where business can be driven, only the smart hardworker will be able to utilize these opportunities.” “The only selling tip that we share with our partners is- “Be a trusted security advisor to your customers”. With so many cyberattacks happening each day, customers are worried, and they need guidance on the best solutions to new age sophisticated cyberat-
tacks. A channel partner has to play a bigger role here. They need to be a consultant for their customers to choose the right kind of cybersecurity solutions. Partners have to genuinely follow this path and sales is just an outcome of all these smart efforts!!!” added Sunil Sharma, Sophos. “Our channel partners have been our prime strength, and it will not be wrong to say that they are behind the success of Microtek for being the most preferred & No.1 UPS brand in India. We would like our partners to play the enabler role for the customers in order for them to make the right & informed decision” said Subodh Gupta, Microtek. “Understanding the needs of the customer is very important and accordingly, the appropriate product options can be suggested to the customer by educating them about Microtek as a brand, our product’s features & benefits, and our vast service network. We also wish to thank our customers who have been our loyalists and trust Microtek products with a complete heart. We wish them a great year ahead.” RAPOO holds a strong market presence in India through its large channel partner base across India Our plan is to be among the top wireless peripheral Brands by 2025. Hence, we emphasize on empowering our channel partners that play a key role in sustaining and expanding the brand’s presence in the country” commented Mukesh Chaudhary, Rapoo. “RAPOO business plans have special focus on after-sales service. We would like our Channel partners to drive the business closely with the customers understanding their requirements. As customers change their behaviour and look for solutions as per their needs, they also want to provide their inputs and let their solution providers know what they’re looking for. The channel partners have to take special care of the changing customer needs and concerns and provide their customers a confidence of value for money and assure them of prompt after sales services.” Mukesh Chaudhary, Rapoo further added, “We at RAPOO work closely with our channel partners helping them boost their business in all possible ways by supporting them in sales, branding or by implementing various channel partner schemes from time to time.” The tech brands often organize training sessions for partners to help them gain knowledge of the products and the best strategies to sell them. Rajshekhar Bhatt, ECS shared the key tips for their partnersFocus on SMBs and SIs with limited budget: With our competitive prices, we can look for SMBs or SIs that require a small computer for any business application purpose, such as digital signage, online meetings, office work, kiosks, education or other. Cross-industry alliance: Introduce partners to participate in the various bidding or connect with potential customers, so that partners can obtain additional benefit. This method not only fortify the relationship, but also help them in the difficult time. Reward program: Propose incentives to motivate partners to achieve their sales goal and increase sales. Use the media to promote: Stimulate 2C sales by recommending products to people looking for HTPC or working/studying from home through online advertising and leading local magazines. Service commitment: Comprehensive after-sales service not only allows customers to reduce maintenance costs, and also Increases their willingness to continue cooperation in the future. “Tenda India is blessed with highly qualified channel partners and that is one of our biggest strengths in India. During ‘”Horrible Pandemic”’ we stood with each other like a strong family. Our channel partners are super qualified and well-informed on multiple fronts. We as a family always intend to pitch Tenda India’s core strength which is to offer
highly durable products with three (3) years of warranty at honest pricing. Tenda India brings easy-to-use and comfortable go-to networking products. And most important, we have a strong after-sales support system across India” added Alok Verma, Tenda. While sharing the key tips for channel partners, RK Bansal, Uniline commented, “For selling, customer confidence in your product is must. If we able to explain the benefits of our products w.r.t. our competitors, then selling is easy. Channel partners have to be fully aware about the products, their features, their benefits, etc. w.r.t. competitors. Uniline shall help partners cultivate customization edge to result in successfully securing orders. Uniline’s associated System Integrators & Channel Partners find this customization advantage as their edge, with no competition can match or deliver.” The new normal has changed retail trends across industries. For instance, a large number of customers now trust in makein-India goods in certain product categories. It has been a blessing for the consumer durables industry that has come a long way in occupying top commercial spots and becoming a large selling brand. Avneet Singh Marwah, Super Plastronics said, “Kodak itself is not amongst the top 3 online selling TV brands in India. So, to begin with, a key selling tip has been to ensure that our goods are end-to-end made in India. Our factories are fully backward-integrated, which has enabled us to overcome issues related to shortage of raw materials or after-sale service. Our strategy has helped us scale ourselves in the last 18 months. Renewed focus on offline sales has also been a big
hit for Kodak. While we started with online sales, we have been fortunate enough to connect with amazing distributors. This year we will have more partnerships in GTs and LFRs. Our brand recall value has risen too, and that has been a boon for our sales. Our massive after-sales service outreach and the network we have created pan-India have led to increased sales.” Sonit Jain, Gajshield Infotech commented, “The first ground rule of a channel relationship, of course, is that both you and the channel partner want to make a profit through the sale of your product. However, it’s important to understand that, while you both want profitability, the ways in which you pursue that goal are in direct conflict. You, as the supplier, are looking to drive down your cost of sales by leveraging the resources (personnel, floor space, etc.) of the channel partner. Meanwhile, the channel partner is looking to you to minimize the cost of ramp up and reduce their cost of sales. Under the circumstances, the only solution is to create a joint venture relationship that takes into account the resources that both companies can bring to bear in order to make the relationship successful. This means that you need to invest resources in training, marketing, and sales support. Likewise, the channel must commit resources to training and actively promote the solution.” Key selling tips for large channel partners: • Create simple and particle sales tools • Provide excellent technical support • Create a way to communicate and meet frequently

INTERVIEW
“ZERO VULNERABILITY IS A JOINT RESPONSIBILITY” Cybersecurity has been one of the top concerns for organizations as keeping the IT infrastructure secure remains a key priority for businesses. With the rapidly changing digital landscape, the risk of cyber incidents has increased. Cybercriminals capitalize on the opportunities and pose serious threats that result in big data loss. Sophos, a leading provider of security solutions emphasizing on creating a secure digital environment for organizations. Rajeev Ranjan, Editor, Digital Terminal held an interaction with Sunil Sharma, Managing Director Sales, India and SAARC, Sophos. Sunil spoke about the increasing cyber threats, their growth plans and solution offerings for organizations. Read below the excerpts:
RAJEEV: THE NUMBER OF RANSOMWARE ATTACKS HAS INCREASED WITH REMOTE WORKING IN TREND, SO WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS TO EMPOWER ORGANIZATIONS WITH YOUR CUTTING-EDGE ENDPOINT SECURITY SOLUTIONS? SUNIL: As evidenced in the Sophos 2022 Threat Report, the speed at which the cyberattack landscape changes, is not going to slow down in 2022. In particular, ransomware attacks on all sizes and natures of businesses are increasing. Due to the persistent nature of cyberattacks, at Sophos, we recommend and provide organizations with layered security or defense in depth. Sophos Firewall protects an organization’s perimeter, while Sophos Intercept X optimizes the protection for endpoints and servers. By reducing the attack surface and preventing attacks from running, Intercept X removes opportunities for attackers to penetrate an organization. However, attackers can also break into organizations using open internet facing ports, stolen credentials, and unpatched or unprotected systems. In such cases, if a cybercriminal is able to infiltrate an organization, Sophos XDR can minimize the time to detect and respond to the attack. Attackers today are using legitimate tools to break into networks and manoeuvring around to steal data, evade detection and drop ransomware. To help organizations tackle such tactics, Sophos also offers threat hunting services called Managed Threat Response. The teams of threat hunters add an additional “human” layer to software and hardware cybersecurity solutions. These threat experts are trained to analyse threats and take action against them. 18

RAJEEV: HOW DO YOU MANAGE TO OFFER EXCELLENT TECHNICAL SUPPORT TO YOUR EXISTING CUSTOMERS? WHAT ARE YOUR STRATEGIES TO FURTHER IMPROVE SERVICE SUPPORT QUALITY? SUNIL: Sophos has implemented a simple approach in offering comprehensive support for our customers. We understand that this needs to be comprehensive and aligned to the needs of customers’ organizations. We are continuously working at all levels to make our support simple and easy to use with highly trained technical support representatives available to our customers across the globe 24x7. RAJEEV: HOW DO YOU ENABLE ENTERPRISES TO HAVE A ROBUST & SECURED IT INFRASTRUCTURE WITH ZERO VULNERABILITY? SUNIL: Zero vulnerability is a joint responsibility. Organizations have to make sure that their technology, people and processes are regularly updated and patched. Even their security solutions should be regularly updated. Out- of-date or misconfigured security software not only fails to protect but can give a false sense of security. Organizations should ensure that they have security software in place that’s fully up-to-date and configured properly. They should take the time to verify that they have automatic updates working on their security software either by logging into it or through the management console. RAJEEV: HOW DO YOU SEE THE ROLE OF YOUR PARTNERS IN THE IMMENSE SUCCESS OF SOPHOS IN RECENT YEARS? HOW DO YOU TAKE CARE OF PARTNER’S GROWTH & PROFITABILITY?
SUNIL: Sophos is a 100% channel driven company. All our business is conducted through the channel partners, and we serve all our customers in conjunction with them only. Our channel partners are almost like an extension of Sophos in India and SAARC. Over the years, we have built strong relationships with our channel partners, and we are committed to growing this ecosystem further. As a result of our various partner enablement programs including periodic trainings, our channel partners are highly proficient in Sophos’ next-generation security solutions and services. This has enabled our partners to play the role of a security advisor to our customers and this has contributed hugely to our partners growth and profitability along with the security of our customers. RAJEEV: WHAT IS YOUR CHANNEL STRATEGY FOR 2022? HOW ARE YOU WORKING TO GROW YOUR PARTNER IN THE REGION? SUNIL: Our channel strategies are well designed and are driven through our global partner program, which emphasizes on parameters like simplicity and transparency, partner profitability and partner enablement. The biggest change from the last two years would be that this year we will have more face to face interactions and events with our partners. This year, we are also working on enhancing our customer experience. We will have more face to face connections with our customers and prospects, which will be a good change for our customers and partners both.

MARKET REPORT
KINGSTON TECHNOLOGY LEADS CHANNEL SSD SHIPMENTS IN 2021 Kingston Technology announced it closed out a prosperous 2021 in the number one spot for SSD Unit market share in the channel. SSD demand through Q4 2021 remained high due to continued growth in the client, enterprise and OEM sectors. In October, Kingston also broadened its portfolio by launching two new high performance client M.2 NVMe PCIe Gen 4 SSDs, KC3000 and Kingston FURY Renegade. Market share data from analyst research company TRENDFOCUS showed Kingston as the number one client SSD vendor in the channel with 22.2% for unit market share and 22.3 million client SSDs shipped for all of 2021 in the channel. In Q4 alone, Kingston’s client SSD market share grew to a substantial 26.8% in the channel which displays a healthy annual unit growth despite ongoing component shortages. According to TRENDFOCUS, total client SSD units increased 12.4% YoY in 2021. Notebook PC units increased 12% YoY while
desktop PCs inched up 1% over the same period, reflecting the rapid adoption of solid-state drives by clients largely due to performance, size and reduced power consumption. Kingston maintains a competitive advantage by working closely with its suppliers, partners, and customers to remain flexible and adapt to ever-changing needs and market conditions. “2021 saw a nearly 9% increase in total PC shipments1, the highest volume shipped since 2014. The transition of PC demand over to commercial models amplified an already high SSD-attach rate in notebook PCs and continued to fuel growth opportunities,” said Don Jeanette, vice president, TRENDFOCUS.
“The 2021 research findings validate Kingston’s growing presence and position in the SSD market,” said Kingston. “As we celebrate our 35 year anniversary, Kingston has been a consistent and trusted manufacturer of high-performance storage solutions. Over the past decade, we’ve continued to solidify our product portfolio with strong SATA offerings as well as distinct NVMe solutions optimized for notebooks and desktops. It takes an entire team to accomplish this feat and we both thank and share our success with our partners, vendors and customers.”
CISCO CONTINUES TO LEAD INDIAN ROUTER MARKET WITH 62.8% MARKET SHARE India’s networking market which includes Ethernet Switch, Routers, and WLAN segments witnessed a 13.6% year-over-year (YoY) growth in terms of vendor revenues during 4Q21 (Oct-Dec). With organizations looking to re-open campuses, the investments in the non-DC networking infrastructure have grown significantly over the last few quarters. Having said this, vendors were still seen to be battling with chip shortages, increasing freight costs, increased import costs due to currency fluctuations. Infrastructure lead times have currently risen to the levels of 26-28 weeks for many vendors and are expected to stay the same for some more quarters to come with the Russia-Ukraine conflict worsening the scenario. However, as vendors are looking to clear their shipment backlogs, IDC expects the next few quarters to have steady market growth as demand for networking infrastructure looks very stable. Switching business in India had a 25.7% YoY growth by vendor revenue during 4Q421. The non-DC switching business had a significant YoY growth of 41.5% owing to 20

the sharp decline in 4Q20 revenues due to COVID-19. Organizations, specifically in the services segment were starting to invest significantly in the non-DC segment ahead of office opening in April 2022. DC switching had a high single-digit growth rate of 9.3% YoY during 4Q21. Key industries that contributed to the switching business include services, telecom, manufacturing, and government. According to IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Router Tracker, the India Router market in 4Q21 remained stagnant at USD 75.1 million (by vendor revenue) with a very marginal YoY growth of 0.1%. The slow growth can be mainly attributed to telecom service providers going slow on router investments. Service Provider deployments declined by YoY 11.1% during 4Q21. Telecom vendor investments were mostly centered around refreshes, bandwidth optimization requirements, building edge clouds, investments ahead of 5G rollouts, etc. On the contrary, the enterprise
investment in router hardware grew by a YoY growth rate of 25.1%. Enterprise investments were focused on regular router refreshes and deployments aimed at SD-WAN implementation. Apart from telecom, the key investments areas included manufacturing, finance, and services. Cisco leads the router market with a 62.8% market share in 4Q21 followed by Nokia and Juniper.

TP-LINK RETAINS NO. 1 POSITION IN INDIAN WLAN MARKET WITH 24.1% MARKET SHARE According to IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Wireless LAN Tracker, the Indian WLAN market had a marginal YoY growth of 4.5% by vendor revenue during 4Q21 majorly driven by the enterprise wireless segment. The market stood at USD 64.5 million (by Vendor Revenue). The WLAN segment witnessed a marginal growth of 4.5% YoY by vendor revenue. While the enterprise WLAN grew strongly with pent-up demand from organizations coming through, the consumer wireless demand softened with offices reopening and the festival season in India coming to an end thereby posing only marginal growth for the overall WLAN segment. The enterprise WLAN segment exhibited a very strong 45.4% YoY growth and consumer WLAN declined by 22.0% YoY. Traction for Wi-Fi 6 in Indian enterprises expanded, with Wi-Fi 6 contributing to 75.7% of access points revenues during 4Q21. The demand for Wi-Fi 6 adoption is fueled by the exceedingly increasing lead times for previous generations of wireless access points caused by semiconductor shortages. Business in the enterprise wireless segment was exceptional with a YoY growth of 45.4% by vendor revenue. The growth was majorly driven by enterprises investing in wireless infrastructure ahead of office opening post the third wave of COVID-19. Vendors were also focused on clearing the existing backlogs caused by chip shortages to be able to efficiently cater to future demand. Services organizations were seen investing heavily on spinning up newer locations primarily focusing on wireless connectivity. Cloud-managed wireless was witnessed gathering stream owing to simpler deployment and management. Investments from the education vertical bounced back after a long slump caused due to COVID-19. Wi-Fi 6 contributed to 75.7% of the access point revenues due to lesser wait times compared to the previous generations of wireless access points.
www.digitalterminal.in
The consumer gateway router business declined sharply by 22.0% YoY by vendor revenue. The decline in the gateway router segment was due to offices opening in multiple parts of the country and the festival season coming to an end in India. With ISP as the channel, Wi-Fi 6 is starting to get traction in the consumer segment as well. However, the gateway router market is still domi-
nated by Wi-Fi 5 shipments. With a market share of 24.1%, TP-Link was the market leader in the WLAN segment during 4Q21. Within the enterprise-class WLAN segment, Cisco was the market leader with a 19.7% market share followed by HPE with 18.1%.

CLOUD FOCUS
TAKING YOUR BUSINESS TO THE CLOUDS: WHY SHOULD THE CLOUD BECOME PART OF YOUR IT INFRASTRUCTURE? By ESET Remote workforces are the future. The rise of Covid-19 has brought not only social and economic changes, but also a huge shift toward remote offices and flexible workspaces. Companies that until now had no experience with digital solutions can clearly see the need for digitising their business processes. Managing this new working reality can be a challenge, as a new IT infrastructure calls for investments – but if you can find clever solutions that also serve in the long run, every dollar will be worth it. One such solution is the cloud – if you want to create an online office, you should provide as many services and as much storage as possible in your online environment. The cloud will help you keep your data accessible from practically anywhere. If you need more space, you just extend your cloud storage. And other benefits? Here are a few. The cloud helps you build a secure and easily manageable network of remote workers. Updates, security product configurations and deployment of data protection solutions - all of that can be managed on all company devices at once and remotely, using a cloud-based management dashboard. It will allow you to send one single link to your employees requiring just a click for software installation to begin. By not having to manage every device separately, you’ll save plenty of time, which can be invested into finding digital solutions for other business areas and processes or revising your business continuity plan. Cloud solutions boost business value and drive productivity. According to a 2019 study conducted by the IDC, almost 71% of business decision makers agree that “adopting a future workspace model that includes a flexible, intelligent, collaborative virtual as well as physical work environment will be important to improving employee productivity and driving business value in the future.” In India, a recent survey conducted by a research company showed 57% of workers preferred full-time remote working over hybrid arrangement or working in the office.
www.digitalterminal.in
What does that mean in practice? It will be necessary to deploy solutions that will allow employees to access as many business and data platforms as possible, as well as to use new collaborative tools that stimulate productivity. When it comes to accessibility and productivity, cloud solutions can save you and your employees a lot of time and work: Information can be easily stored in one place, and documents can be accessed from almost any smart device. What is more, some cloud services even let you edit documents online, without having to download them in the first place. Another option is creating a hybrid environment, which makes use of both cloud and offline solutions. You can, for example, back up your data on a hard drive as well as on the cloud. Having important data stored in two different places raises the probability that you will not lose files in the event of a cyberattack, which might hit you hard if you fail to secure your endpoints properly. Thanks to the cloud, you’ll be prepared for sudden changes. Regulations changed quickly with the arrival of COVID-19. The more digitized companies were, the better prepared they were to manage workplace disruptions. If they were already using a cloud solution, then employees could comfortably access files from home, and they avoided the rush to obtain needed hard drives and other physical assets on short notice. Benefits, in a nutshell, of the cloud:
• Greater agility and responsiveness: You can access applications and data in the cloud from anywhere, at any time, on any device. • Faster time-to-market: You can develop and deliver new products and services more quickly in the cloud. • On-demand scalability: Additional software licensing and/or infrastructure can be provisioned and deprovisioned as needed, which supports the needs of rapidly growing and cyclical businesses that may not be able to accurately predict market changes and business growth. • Reduced capital investments: You can deploy your entire IT infrastructure in the cloud and forgo costly capital investments. The cloud offers predictable “pay as you go” subscription-based services that allow you to budget your IT needs as an ongoing operating expense and only pay for what you use. To help businesses to deploy, configure, and centrally manage security products quickly and easily from anywhere, ESET had introduced the ESET PROTECT Cloud. It provides a cloud-based console for managing ESET security solutions deployed in a network, with real-time visibility of both on-premises and off-premises endpoints. The console enables IT administrators to deploy ESET security solutions, execute tasks, enforce security policies, monitor system status, and quickly respond to problems or detections on managed endpoints across all platforms, including desktops, servers, virtual machines and even mobile devices. MARKET STUDY
IT SECURITY LEADERS LEAN ON EXTERNAL SUPPORT FOR MOST ASPECTS OF THREAT INTELLIGENCE: STUDY According to a commissioned survey conducted by Forrester Consulting on behalf of Kaspersky, IT security leaders seeking to boost internal threat intelligence (TI) programs would prefer to delegate five out of eight major TI aspects to external vendors rather than develop them in-house. For most respondents, quicker threat detection, remediation and response are the main advantages of using external solutions. Threat intelligence has become a musthave for incidents’ prevention and an important area for organizations to invest in. At the same time, this new specialty remains challenging for IT security teams because it requires constant tracking, analyzing and interpreting of large amounts of fragmented data in addition to regular reevaluation and adjusting of appropriate skills, sources and tools. The new study, evaluating threat intelligence practices among firms with mature cyber security functions, revealed that although 83% of decision-makers recognize the crucial role of threat intelligence in building a resilient cybersecurity program and plan to invest in the area, TI remains a challenging specialty for all firms. Close to two-thirds of IT security leaders (64%) said their firm struggles to align their threat intelligence program with their risk management program, and 62% face difficulties implementing measurement procedures to track threat intelligence effectiveness. Other major concerns include improving knowledge of the threat landscape, prioritizing multiple stakeholder requirements for information, and identifying gaps in data. To tackle these challenges and improve their threat intelligence program, IT security decision-makers plan to implement a range of measures internally and leverage vendors’ offerings. Respondents believe it is more efficient to lean on external vendors for the majority of TI needs. Six in ten (61%) would put support in place for processing raw intelligence information, 60% for collecting human intelligence and 59% for integrating data feeds with other security tools. However, firms still prioritize developing in-house capabilities 24

for choosing and aggregating data sources. The top two benefits of using vendors’ support are quicker threat detection, remediation and response (56%) and improved efficiency with automated reporting processes (52%). About half of respondents also said external solutions can reduce the number of breaches and lower associated costs. “Threat intelligence program strengthens a company’s defense, contributing to visibility over the threat landscape by providing relevant and applicable insights. Facilitating threat intelligence processing and analysis it enables companies to make timely and fully-informed decisions. However, evaluating TI services and choosing among the innumerable available market options is another challenge that confronts IT security teams”, comments Artem Karasev, Product Marketing Lead, Corporate Product Marketing at Kaspersky. “Our experience in threat research suggests that while there are virtually no criteria perfectly applicable for all organizations, the guiding principle for choosing external threat intelligence sources should be quality over quantity”. Kaspersky suggests paying special attention to the following points when evaluating external threat intelligence solutions: • Information sources the vendor uses: vendors that aggregate information from around the world can provide more visibility over actual threats and efficiently correlate fragmented activities. • Capability to provide context: contextual data helps reveal the ‘bigger picture’, further validating and supporting the wide-ranging uses of the data. Relationship context, such as domains associated with the detected IP addresses or URLs for where the file was downloaded from etc., boosts incident investigation and
supports better incident ‘scoping’ by uncovering newly acquired related Indicators of Compromise in the network. • Compatibility with existing solutions: an examination of vendor’s delivery methods and integrations systems ensures smooth integration of threat intelligence into existing security operations. • Vendor’s experience: proven track record of threats investigation ensures efficacy of proposed solutions. Saying that the findings of the study were not surprising at all, Mr. Dipesh Kaura, General Manager, Kaspersky South Asia, adds, “Given the nature of the job, TI is a highly dynamic, highly specialized field in which greater your access to information about what is happening around the world, stronger your security systems can be. For this, it is best to rely on the experts. At Kaspersky, we have a global research team dedicated to spotting and analysing cybersecurity trends in real-time. We have a platform to share their findings with our enterprise clients and the ability to customize our offerings in response to these threats.”
