GLOBAL CHIP SHORTAGE EXPECTED TO PERSIST UNTIL Q2 2022: GARTNER The worldwide semiconductor shortage will persist through 2021, and is expected to recover to normal levels by the second quarter of 2022, according to Gartner, Inc. “The semiconductor shortage will severely disrupt the supply chain and will constrain the production of many electronic equipment types in 2021. Foundries are increasing wafer prices, and in turn, chip companies are increasing device prices,” said Kanishka Chauhan, principal research analyst at Gartner. The chip shortage started primarily with devices, such as power management, display devices and microcontrollers, fabricated on legacy nodes at 8-inch foundry fabs, which have a limited supply. The shortage has now extended to other devices, and there are capacity constraints and shortages for substrates, wire bonding, passives, materials, and testing, all of which are parts of the supply chain beyond chip fabs. These are highly commoditized industries with minimal flexibility/capacity to invest aggressively on a short notice. Across most categories, device shortages are expected to be pushed out until the second quarter of 2022 (see Figure 1), while substrate capacity constraints could potentially extend to fourth quarter of 2022. Figure 1. Gartner Index of Inventory Semiconductor Supply Chain Tracking - Projected Worldwide Semiconductor Inventory Index Movement, 2021-2022 Note: 1Q21 is a modelled estimate and is subject to change based on actual financials reported by vendors in 2Q21. Gartner analysts recommend that OEMs dependent directly or indirectly on semiconductors take four key actions to mitigate risk and revenue loss during the global chip shortage: • Extend supply chain visibility – The chip shortage makes it essential for supply chain leaders to extend the supply chain visibility beyond the supplier to the silicon level, which will be critical in projecting supply constraints and bottlenecks and eventually, projecting when the crisis situation will improve. • Guarantee supply with companion model and/or preinvestments – OEMs with smaller and critical component requirements must look to partner with similar entities and approach chip foundries and/or OSAT players as a combined entity to gain some leverage. Additionally, if scale allows, preinvesting in a commoditized part of the chip supply chain and/or foundries, could guarantee the company a long-term supply.
how the shortage situation will evolve, a combination of relevant parameters can help guide organizations in the right direction. “Since the current chip shortage is a dynamic situation, it is essential to understand how it changes on a continuous basis. Tracking leading indicators, such as capital investments, inventory index and semiconductor industry revenue growth projections as an early indicator of inventory situations, can help organizations stay updated on the issue and see how the overall industry is growing,” said Gaurav Gupta, research vice president at Gartner. • Diversify supplier base – Qualifying a different source of chips and/or OSAT partner will require additional work and investment, but it would go a long way in reducing risk. Additionally, creating strategic and tight relationships with distributors, resellers and traders can help with finding the small volume for urgent components.
• Track leading indicators – While no relevant parameter by itself will project MAY 2021 I

Read below the excerpts: RAJEEV: PLEASE BRIEFLY SHARE YOUR VIEWS ON THE OVERALL GROWTH OF MICRON AND CRUCIAL IN THE INDIAN STORAGE MARKET IN YEAR 2020. RAJESH GUPTA: Over the last FY, Micron’s business has grown rapidly in India for Micron branded Industrial/Embedded products as well as Crucial branded Consumer products. During the last year our market coverage has become wider across all market segments. Working with our commercial distributors the Crucial products are now available across all states and major cities in India. Similarly, Micron Industrial products are now reaching more embedded solution developers and integrators at major Industrial clusters. We also have a good presence on the e-commerce platforms. During year 2020, we have also established reseller and VAR engagements in upcountry locations as well. Our endeavour is to continue to work with our distribution and reseller channel partners to expand our coverage further and make our products available widely and consistently across India. Globally, Micron delivered strong revenue and earnings in FQ1, despite the ongoing challenges posed by the pandemic. We began shipping the industry’s most advanced NAND with 176 layers. And in DRAM, we made good progress on our 1-alpha node and are on track to begin volume production in the first half of calendar 2021. We believe DRAM is past the bottom of the industry cycle and expect improving trends through calendar 2021 as the digitization of the global economy continues, fueled by artificial intelligence, cloud, 5G, and the intelligent edge, including smart vehicles. Against this backdrop, Micron is poised to emerge stronger, and we are excited about our

future RAJEEV: HOW INDIA IS IMPORTANT ‘AS A MARKET’ FOR MICRON? WHAT ALL INVESTMENT/EXPANSION PLANS YOU HAVE FOR THE INDIAN MARKET IN NEAR FUTURE? RAJESH GUPTA: India is an exciting market for Micron. Our wide range of memory & storage product portfolio covers Industrial electronics, Embedded, Mobile, Compute, Networking, Gaming and Consumer market segments. Micron delivers the industry’s most exhaustive and expansive portfolio of memory & storage products. Similarly on the Embedded side our plan is to establish an engagement of trust and consistency with key OEMs, ODMs and EMS players for our industry leading products. As we know India is becoming a destination for mobile phone manufacturing with the ecosystem developing for very large scale of domestic and export potential. Micron is ready with an impressive range of DRAM and NAND based products and solutions for this segment and will be able to support growth of this exciting segment. RAJEEV: WHAT ARE THE UPCOMING TECHNOLOGY TRENDS IN THE INDIAN STORAGE MARKET? HOW DO YOU LOOK AT THESE TRENDS AND YOUR PREPAREDNESS TO TAP THE UPCOMING DEMANDS? RAJESH GUPTA: Calendar 2021 is shaping up to be a solid year, and our overall outlook across DRAM and NAND has
improved with broad strength across nearly all end markets and similar trend should be visible in India. The pandemic has driven changes in our economy that we believe would serve to accelerate the digital transformation of the economy and drive new opportunities for the industry. Recovery from the pandemic and pent-up demand are expected to drive strong demand growth in markets such as enterprise, cloud, desktop PCs, mobile, auto and industrial. Some Key market segment specific pointers are as follows: • PC & Clients: Work From Home (WFH) has become a necessary tool of managing workforce for businesses and continues to drive the strong demand for Notebooks and Tablet PCs. We also expect the desktop market to improve as workers gradually return to the office this year. Not only the demand for new PCs has improved we see a strong demand for existing PC upgrades as both consumer and Corporations maximize the utilization of IT resources and optimize costs and budgets. There is a significant increasing in Online Gaming both on Mobile phones as well as PCs as this becomes one of the viable entertainment option while staying indoors. This has resulted in solid growth in the demand of Gaming focused DRAM modules. • Data Centre: This segment is expected to be strong in 2021, particularly in the second half of the year. This is due to improving enterprise demand, strengthening opportunities with cloud providers, and the introduction of new CPUs which will increase memory content. We expect migration to DDR5 picking up pace in 2H 2021. 5G mobile network deployments will drive healthy

The industry could also expect to benefit from higher content in 5G phones, which are forecast to double this year. • Automotive: Auto unit sales are expected to grow significantly from last year while secular memory and storage content growth trends remain strong as electric vehicles (EVs) proliferate.
Rajesh Gupta, Director, Country Manager – India Sales, Micron
• AI & Big Data: In the Industry 4.0 era, AI will become more accurate and more ubiquitous, and we will start to see it filling in more gaps for simple tasks where people would traditionally. In a post-COVID world, more businesses adopting AI for use cases like these to create contactless experiences. We will also see AI moving into infrastructure such as data centres and 5G base stations as neural network algorithms become more adept at workload and system error correction and recovery As the only company with a portfolio of DRAM, NAND and 3D XPoint technologies, Micron is uniquely positioned to benefit from the secular data growth that is driving the cloud, enterprise and networking markets. With a robust network of distributors with specialization in almost all end market segments Micron is in a good position of being a supplier of necessary products. RAJEEV: PLEASE BRIEF ABOUT YOUR CHANNEL NETWORK IN INDIA. HOW DO YOUR OFFLINE CHANNEL PARTNERS HELP YOU TO REACH POTENTIAL CUSTOMERS AND SERVE THE RAPIDLY INCREASING DEMAND? RAJESH GUPTA: Micron’s business in India is fulfilled by distributors and is organized in two broad categories: Industrial and Commercial. Industrial Distribution focused on Industrial Electronics, Automotive and broad range of embedded segments covering ODMs, EMS and IDHs across India. Micron has Industry leading consumer products including SSDs and DRAM branded as Crucial. For the ‘Crucial’ branded consumer products, we are developing a strong network of resellers, VARs and www.digitalterminal.in
System Integrators across all 4 regions and multiple cities in India. The resellers and VAR/SI’s do a commendable job of making Crucial branded products available widely across retail counters and e-commerce market places. The offline channel plays a critical role in fulfilling the requirement of a widespread consumer base for PC and tablet upgrades. The offline channel keeps a stock of multiple products in the local stores, helps educating consumers about aspects such as compatibility, performance and guide consumers in picking the right products to upgrade their systems. Many consumers prefer to see demonstrations and products before making a decision and offline channel provides them with the opportunity. RAJEEV: WHAT ARE YOUR COMMITMENTS TO PROVIDE BEST SERVICE SUPPORT TO YOUR CUSTOMERS ACROSS INDIA? PLEASE BRIEF IF YOU HAVE ANY PLAN TO SCALE THE SERVICE INFRA ACROSS ALL MAJOR CITIES. RAJESH GUPTA: Pre and post sales
services are very important to improve customer satisfaction besides delivering high quality and reliable products. Micron has invested in a wide network to provide warranty replacements widely cities across India with a network of 40 plus in city service centres. Micron has an exhaustive portfolio of memory and storage products for both Consumer and Industrial business segments. Each of the segment has a complex set up customers that are located widely across the country. The supply chain ecosystem is different for the Commercial and Industrial segments and requires unique skill sets and technology skills. Therefor along with pre & post-sales support coverage, Micron is establishing a training program fine-tuned to the needs of different channel segments. CYBERSECURITY
SOPHOS INTRODUCES ITS LATEST XDR SOLUTION FOR ENHANCED SECURITY Sophos announced Sophos XDR, the industry’s only extended detection and response (XDR) solution that synchronizes native endpoint, server, firewall, and email security. With this comprehensive and integrated approach, Sophos XDR provides a holistic view of an organization’s environment with the richest data set and deep analysis for threat detection, investigation and response. “We’re seeing an extraordinarily high level of complex ransomware and other cybercrime, and the need for effective, comprehensive cybersecurity has never been more critical or urgent,” said Dan Schiappa, chief product officer at Sophos. “Sophos XDR is a game-changing new solution for proactively defending against the most sophisticated and evasive attacks, especially those that leverage multiple access points to gain entry, move laterally to evade detection, and do as much damage as possible as fast as possible.”
ATTACKS ON STEROIDS Sophos also published new research, “Intervention halts a ProxyLogon-enabled attack,” detailing an attack against a large organization that began when the adversaries compromised an Exchange server using the recent ProxyLogon exploit. The research shows how the attackers moved laterally through the network and, over a two-week period, stole account credentials; compromised domain controllers; secured a foothold on multiple machines; deployed a commercial remote access tool to retain access to hacked machines; and delivered a number of malicious programs. “As explained in the research report, the attackers returned repeatedly, sometimes with different tools and other times to deploy the same tool, such as Cobalt Strike, on different machines. They used a commercial remote access utility rather than the more standard RDP that threat hunters would more typically look for,” said Schiappa. “This report explains the complex nature of human-operated cyberattacks and how multi-stage, multi-vector incidents are difficult for IT security teams to track and contain. The target simply couldn’t keep up with the attack activity taking place across all parts of the estate. Based on Sophos’ 2021 www.digitalterminal.in
State of Ransomware report, this issue is more widespread than this one incident. More than 54% of IT managers surveyed said cyberattacks are too advanced for their IT teams to handle on their own. XDR is a critical defense component.”
DEEP THREAT ANALYSIS WITH RICH DATA SET Sophos XDR extends visibility across Sophos’ next-generation portfolio of solutions for an in-depth picture of threats. At the heart of Sophos XDR is the industry’s richest data set. Sophos XDR offers two types of data retention, including up to 90 days of on-device data, plus 30 days of cross-product data in the cloud-based data lake. The unique approach of blending on-device and data lake forensics provides the broadest and most in-depth contextualized insights that can be leveraged by security analysts through Sophos Central and via open application programming interfaces (APIs) for ingestion into security information and event management (SIEM); security orchestration, automation and response (SOAR); professional service automation (PSA); and remote monitoring and management (RMM) systems. The data lake hosts critical information from Intercept X, Intercept X for Server, Sophos Firewall, and Sophos Email. Sophos Cloud Optix and Sophos Mobile will also feed into the data repository later this year. Security and IT teams can easily access this data to run cross-product threat hunts and investigations, and to quickly drill into granular details of past and present attacker activity. The availability of offline access to historical data further protects against lost or impacted devices. Sophos additionally released a new version of its industry-best endpoint detection and response – Sophos EDR. New sched-
uled queries and customizable contextual pivoting capabilities make it faster and easier than ever for security analysts and IT administrators to identify, investigate and respond to security issues with speed and precision. Users further benefit with new pre-configured queries and powerful threat intelligence through integration with SophosLabs Intelix. Sophos EDR customers can access seven days of cloud hosted data (upgradable to 30 days) in the data lake, in addition to 90 days of on-device data. “As one of the world’s top British fashion retailers with hundreds of stores worldwide, security is a top priority. We’re committed to protecting our loyal customers’ data, and that starts with securing our networks against advanced threats,” said Alistair Knowles, cyber security analyst at Ted Baker. “Sophos XDR provides critical visibility into a goldmine of valuable endpoint data, enabling us to detect and stop threats before they cause any damage. We can easily look for those needle in a haystack kind of incidents and determine their scope with both new and historical data at our fingertips. Integration with solutions like Splunk, for example, take it to the next level with even deeper insights. Once we have the forensics needed to neutralize a threat, Sophos’ Live Response capabilities enable us to remediate issues remotely, which is imperative in today’s remote working environments.”

MARKET REPORT
HP CONTINUES TO LEAD INDIAN HCP MARKET WITH 34.1% MARKET SHARE According to the latest data released by International Data Corporation (IDC) India’s hardcopy peripherals (HCP) market recorded its best Q1 in terms of unit shipment at the back of continuous demand for Inkjet printers. While the market witnessed a decline of 4.5% quarter-over-quarter (QoQ) during Q1 2021 (Jan-Mar), it registered shipments of 0.92 million units during the quarter posting a growth of 38.5% year-overyear (YoY), according to the IDC Worldwide Quarterly Hardcopy Peripherals Tracker, 1Q21 release. In the inkjet segment, demand for printers remained strong from the home segment as schools and colleges continued to implement study from home. Following this, the inkjet segment noted a YoY growth of 56.2%. Within inkjet printers, the Ink tank printer segment grew steadily following improved availability and pent-up consumer demand. Vendors continued to be afflicted by issues such as limited production capacity of production hubs, availability of shipping vessels, and increased freight charges. The laser printers’ segment (including copiers) recorded a YoY growth of 26.3% at the back of Laser Printers (excluding copiers) as the Government placed multiple orders towards the end of its financial year. For similar reasons, the Laser Copier segment, too, witnessed a YoY growth of 42.8% despite muted demand from Corporates. “The Government demand could not be fulfilled completely because of its move to delist products with country of origin as China from Government e-Marketplace (GeM). As a result, multiple vendors were impacted since many top-selling models were delisted from GeM. While a few vendors found a workaround by acquiring shipments from manufacturing hubs in another country, others replaced the laser models on GeM with high-speed inkjet models having their country of origin as Vietnam, Thailand, or Japan,” says Bani Johri, Market Analyst, IPDS, IDC India. TOP 3 BRAND HIGHLIGHTS: 18
I MAY 2021
HP Inc. (excluding Samsung) maintained its leadership in the overall HCP market with a share of 34.1% and a growth in shipment of 39.6% YoY. The growth was primarily led by the inkjet segment, wherein HP grew by 109.4% YoY. However, its market share dropped to 22.7% as it occupied the 3rd position in the inkjet market. The growth in inkjet shipment was primarily boosted by ‘HP’s Ink Tank shipment, which was severely impacted last year during the same period. In the laser printer segment (excluding laser copiers), it grew by 15.8% YoY and continued to maintain its number #1 position with a 56.5% market share. Epson occupied the 2nd position in the overall HCP market with a market share of 30.4% while registering a YoY growth of 27.0%. In the inkjet segment, Epson maintained its top position in the market with a share of 50.9%. This comes primarily at the back of Epson, having resolved the supply issues it was facing previously and taking advantage of the gap created in the market by other vendors. Canon recorded a YoY growth of 62.1% and occupied 3rd position in the overall India HCP market, capturing a unit market share of 22.8%. In the inkjet segment, Canon observed a YoY growth of 98.6% even though it struggled with the shortage of certain models. In the laser segment (including laser copiers)
Canon maintained its 2nd position with a market share of 23.9% while struggling with the supply of LBP2900. In the laser copier segment, Canon grew by 36.7% YoY and continued to lead the copier market with a 27.9% market share because of its minimum dependence on Chinese manufactured products which helped them procure deals in the Government segment. IDC INDIA MARKET OUTLOOK: “Consumer sentiment is expected to remain muted during 2Q21 as the country battles the second wave of the pandemic. However, supply issues are not expected to be as severe as last year as the country largely remains operational. While there are statewide lockdowns, there are almost negligible restrictions on interstate movement of goods or even import of goods from another country. Barring any 3rd wave of infections or a prolonged second wave, we can expect some recovery in consumer spending towards the second half of 2021. Enterprise demand is expected to remain muted in Q2 owing to state lockdowns and continued work from home forcing offices to remain closed. Logistics, Pharma and Hospitals Sector are likely to remain decent from a printer demand perspective,” says Nishant Bansal, Senior Research Manager, IPDS, IDC India.

ESET REPORTS ANDROID STALKERWARE ON THE RISE IN MOBILE DEVICES
Mobile stalkerware, which is software silently installed by stalkers onto victims’ mobile devices without their knowledge, is on the rise, ESET Research finds. In 2019, ESET telemetry recorded almost five times more Android stalkerware detections than in 2018, and in 2020, almost 1.5 times more were recorded than in 2019. ESET researchers manually analyzed 86 stalkerware apps for the Android platform, provided by 86 different vendors. This analysis identified many serious security and privacy issues that could result in a third party – an attacker – taking control of a victim’s device, taking over a stalker’s account, intercepting a victim’s data, framing a victim by uploading fabricated evidence, or achieving remote code execution on a victim’s smartphone. Across 58 of these Android applications, ESET discovered a total of 158 security and privacy issues that can have a serious impact on a victim; indeed, even the stalker or the app’s vendor may be at some risk.

FIVE FUNDAMENTALS TO SAFEGUARD BUSINESSES’ MOST VALUABLE ASSET - DATA Authored by Ripu Bajwa, Director and General Manager, Data Protection Solutions, Dell Technologies abilities. While many of these attacks may not be as sensational as ransomware, they can be even more devastating. Considering these threats and that organizations’ security parameter is expanding beyond the traditional four walls into their employees’ homes, here are five fundamentals one should keep in mind from a cybersecurity perspective:
We have entered a new decade and it won’t be wrong to state the new decade has brought with itself several new ways of managing and operating a business. Most of the organizations are operating remotely to steer through the new normal and maintain business continuity. These new remote working models have created multiple endpoints in data chains, providing cyber attackers not one, but multiple access points to an IT infrastructure’s nucleus - data. It is not surprising to note that, as per The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeITY), till August 2020, almost 7 lakh cyber-attacks were faced by Indian citizens, commercial and legal entities. Hackers and cyber-criminals are always on the look for new methods of entry, one of which is below the PC operating system. Low-level attacks often take advantage of weak system configurations and firmware vulner26
I MAY 2021
• Protect devices above and below the operating system (OS) In addition to having modern solutions in place to prevent unknown threats and respond quickly and efficiently to attacks across the endpoint, network and cloud, you must also choose devices that have protection and detection capabilities below the OS at the PC BIOS level, where we’re seeing a significant rise of attacks. The PC BIOS lives deep inside the PC and controls core functions like booting the PC. Often when the PC BIOS is compromised, the attacker remains hidden while the PC has credentialed access to the network and data. • Ensure the physical security of a device and its data- The physical protection of a device is just as important as the cybersecurity deployed on and within the device. If you are using public spaces to work, remember to use a privacy shield so your data is protected from prying eyes. Also, enabling chassis intrusion detection tools will notify the user and send an alert to the system administrator if
any physical tampering of the device takes place. • Move to a password-plus strategyEnhance passwords with biometrics, implement multifactor authentication and utilize digital certificates for stronger protection. Cost and complexity barriers are breaking down, making biometrics like fingerprint and facial recognition, easier to adopt. Also consider using password managers to create strong, complex and unique passwords which are then stored in a secure repository. • Train employees routinely on smart security practices- This is especially important with many working from a home environment. Implement a security training program and include regular tests like sending test phishing emails to keep employees skills sharpened. And don’t forget, security training is equally important for security practitioners and IT managers as it is for any other employee. • Make room for usability and protection to co-exist. Even if you have the best security tools, if they’re hard to use or hinder productivity, they will be ignored or defeated by your employees, leaving your organization at risk. Successful security solutions must be easy to deploy, easy to maintain and easy to use. We know that the threat landscape is constantly evolving, so flexibility is key. Organizations should assess the tools they have, invest in the future and remember to adapt with the threat landscape. By focusing on foundational elements, like the five above, you can ensure your organization is off to a strong start today and in the future. www.digitalterminal.in

ANYONE CAN BE AT RISK OF A DATA BREACH: KASPERSKY ON AIR INDIA & DOMINOS DATA LEAK
the recent few years. These data leak incidents took place due to many factors and not just because of the lack of security at the organization’s end. It is important for businesses to understand the factors that can cause a data breach in order to be fully prepared to prevent an incident, or mitigate the risks caused by it. Businesses who are a victim of a data breach today not only are responsible to protect their consumer’s data, but also prevent it from being misused by the cybercriminals as an aftermath of a data breach.”
Dipesh Kaura, General Manager, Kaspersky (South Asia)
Amidst the increasing cyberattacks across the country, Air India has confirmed that the passport data of around 4.5 million passengers was leaked online. On the other hand, Domino’s Pizza has also faced a severe cyberattack. The personal data of 180 million customers who had placed their order with Domino’s Pizza has been exposed on the dark web. The data includes name, mobile number, GPS location and email address. These cyber incidents have come at a time when the country is undergoing COVID-19 pandemic and IT teams are facing challenges on the front of securing their IT infrastructure. An internet security researcher named Rajshekhar Rajaharia alleged that the hacker has created a search engine on Dark Web due to which 28

anyone can search the personal information of Domino’s customers. This is a very serious threat to the privacy of people and it may lead to big trouble. Taking a lesson from these data breach incidents, organizations should emphasize on strengthening their IT infrastructure and should ensure the security of their customer’s data. It’s really a time for the organizations to adopt effective measures to boost the security infrastructure and not being a victim of any cyber incident in near future. While sharing concern on the recent cyberattacks on companies like Air India and Dominos, Dipesh Kaura, General Manager, Kaspersky (South Asia) said, “India has seen numerous instances of organizations becoming a victim of a data breach incident in
He further added, “Anyone can be at risk of a data breach — from individuals to high-level enterprises and governments. More importantly, anyone can put others at risk if they are not protected. In general, data breaches happen due to weaknesses in: Technology and User behavior. While enterprises build a robust security infrastructure for their networks, they often fail to protect themselves from the two other equally important aspects: Human error and third party services/ providers. The weaknesses in technology can be either at the organization’s end or it can be a security flaw of the third party/ supply chain provider of an organization.” “Human being the weakest link in the cybersecurity ecosystem, it also becomes essential for enterprises to regularly train their non-IT staff and create an awareness amongst them in order to protect their consumer’s data from being exposed in a data breach incident due to threats like phishing, malware and brute force attacks. Regular system updates and proactive disclosure of such incidents also help businesses in creating a stronger strategy to fight against data breaches.” www.digitalterminal.in
OPINION
5 MAJOR SAAS TRENDS TO CHECK OUT IN 2021 AUTHORED BY VIKAS BHONSLE, CEO, CRAYON SOFTWARE EXPERTS INDIA The software industry has witnessed a complete revolution, thanks to the rapid progress in cloud computing technologies. Purchasing software is now history, as customers today can easily subscribe to a particular SaaS (Software as a Service) and scale it up or down as per their requirement. SaaS product development services are accelerating the cloud computing market. Gartner predicts that cloud spending in India will total $4.4 billion in 2021, a growth of 31.4% in 2021 from the previous year.
POPULARITY FOR SAAS SaaS business model is preferable because of a few fundamental factors that apply universally. Flexible payment options and scalability are the top two factors, as it helps businesses decide their priorities and also subscribe only to the required services. In the SaaS model, operational expenses reduce as both computing and storage demands are largely taken care of by the SaaS provider. Also, software gets constantly updated and improvised, as the user behaviour is analysed round the clock, and accordingly, the features are updated for better performance. Currently, the biggest advantage of the SaaS model has been its ease-in-accessibility factor. Since lockdown several businesses have adopted the SAAS model thus enabling the mobility of accessing applications from any digital device and location, making it mobile-friendly and decentralised. With SaaS, inter-departmental collaboration has increased as now it is easier to share files, work on projects and stay connected with different teams in the same organization. Also, security-wise, most of the SaaS models are more secure and come with pre-existing disaster recovery and business continuity plans, regardless of any data breach or system failure.
THE GROWTH PARADIGM www.digitalterminal.in
The need to reduce expenses and stay connected primarily driven by the ongoing pandemic has been a huge reason for the growth in SAAS offerings. Businesses have realised that SAAS models are the best way to be digitally efficient that allow their businesses to survive and thrive. This rising demand has also increased the market demand and competition for better and improved SaaS services.
PRESENTED BELOW ARE THE 5 MAJOR SAAS TRENDS TO LOOK FOR IN 2021 1. AI AND MACHINE LEARNING: AI is projected to have a market value of $733.7 billion by 2027. AI makes sense and gives value to the enormous data that any digital solution generates. Hence SaaSwill see the adoption of AI in multi-folds in the coming month. AI-based algorithms provide calculated analysis and prediction that helps business optimize their processes, make informed decisions and automates repetitive tasks, saving businesses time and money. 2. SAASMOBILE APP TRENDS: India’s mobile usage is projected at 900-million by 2023, with nearly two-thirds of the population estimated to have internet access and a mobile device. With SaaS adoption, we are already accessing the app versions of the software on our phone. The year will see a simplified user experience (UX), ultra-responsive app features and functionality, with factors like task optimization, one-swipe actions, online payment, and intuitive filtering capabilities. In the upcoming months, immersive mobile technologies like augmented and virtual reality will also find prominence in mobile apps. Overall, advanced and user-friendly mobile experiences will be at the forefront of the SaaS adoption criteria. 3. VERTICAL SAAS: SaaSservices can be divided into vertical and horizontal. In the latter, the service is focused on clients across any sector and industry. In the former, as understood, the service will be customised, targeting clients within specific industries and supply chains. For example, companies will come with industry-specific analytics solutions
customised separately for industries such as healthcare, retail, manufacturing, transportation, storage, education, etc. In vertical SaaS, the solutions are more adaptable, customer-centric, and focusing on niche features. This gives SaaSproviders KPIs to provide better scope for upselling and reselling, lowering customer acquisition cost. 4.MICRO-SAAS: Micro-SaaSare majorly the small players who provide limited or complementary solutions to their customers. These are mostly add-on services to existing platforms or services that fill the gap of the one missing feature in an existing SaaSproduct. 5. PAAS: With the coming times, the SaaSindustry will evolve and increase in volume and portfolio, which is a primary growth factor for customer retention on top of customer acquisition. A SaaSconversion into PaaS (Platform as a Service) means that the software providers will be adding other custom apps as add-ons to their original offerings.
CONCLUSION The SaaS industry is here to stay and grow further revving on all engines. SaaS is not only more user-friendly and scalable, but it also ensures data availability even in case of disasters. Hence it is a complete go-to-option for businesses and individuals. As data continues to be the driving force behind current business strategies, SaaS model is only going to be an increasingly convenient and affordable option across industries.
