Architecture as a political act.
This project is a critique on the State’s inertia for the people’s actual economic needs, living conditions as well as for the environment. The city of Drapetsona, just a few miles outside of Piraeus, was considered a case study due to its unique character. The vacant industries and large scale bare fields left from the deindustrialization and latest crisis compose a complex network of “gray zones”.The designing process begins by tracing through the archive of blueprints and satellite images the outlines of the demolished buildings. Having this diagram as a guide for the upcoming interventions a complex network of green and urban infrastructure is designed.
