ISSUE NO. 30 JANUARY 2011
FROM THE DESK OF CMD A year has gone by, and I am pleased to say that we are on our way to accomplish almost all the targets that we had kept for ourselves. This year also saw many awards coming our way, some of them for the organization, some for specific sites and some for specific people. I must acknowledge this would not have been possible without your support and contribution. It is now time for us to soar higher for the next milestone. If you think it, then you can do it. Year 2011 is a preparatory year for us for a bigger goal for subsequent years- THE IPO. With this larger picture in mind we have set ourselves a target of a Rs. 1000 Cr. for the Contracts division; a Rs. 300- 400 Cr., for the Real Estate division and an aim of larger projects in the Infrastructure. We also have our eyes set on diversifying into some related and unrelated businesses like gas distribution, solar energy, and precast pre-stressed & MS pipe work. Many avenues like such are being explored and the year will give a crystal clear picture of where we are heading as far as our diversification plans are concerned. As construction professionals we know that the taller we aim to grow, the sounder should be the footing. What we mean here is that we need to be absolutely meticulous and precise in the adherence to the systems and processes. This reinforcement shall be ensured by putting a System Audit mechanism in place. A team that will ensure that each and every location of Rohan follows systems and processes, including SAP ERP implementation, shall be instituted. We also would be going for a 360 o appraisal of the organization. This will help us to evaluate where we stand as far as perceptions about our service levels are concerned and try to work on the suggestions we get from them as well. Fully understanding, that an organization is not about machines, but the hands are behind those machines, the intentions are to strengthen the HR function in the sense of knowledge and empowerment. Already, plans are in progress for enhancing the knowledge levels of the 'People' behind people and the HR team can expect some new initiatives right from the beginning of this year. As far as Quality Circle is concerned, the year has seen many changes. There have been some hits & misses, but while considering the growth of people, the ones who have imbibed 'continuous improvement' through Quality Circles, will certainly be earning some brownie points. Of course while doing so; let us not lose focus on Safety aspect. The larger we grow, the more the responsibility. We do have system for safety management in place, but like Quality Circles, even Safety has to become an innate philosophy for each Rohanite. The joy of achieving is rendered multi-fold if it is blended with the joy of giving. We are involved into several activities where we try to fulfill our Social Responsibilities. Year 2011 will see a better commitment and dedication for the same. In fact, I would like to appeal to each Rohanite to resolve this year to give back to the society in whatever way you can. Believe that 'we can make a difference.' To summarize, in this year, we plan to do big... We focus not just on WHAT we do, but also on HOW we do it. My best wishes to all. Let's go for it TOGETHER, like we have while facing some testing times this year.
