DG Message - Dil Se
Dear Miracle creators, Wishing you all a very Happy and a Prosperous New Year. I am pretty sure that the second half of the Rotary year will be as fast and thrilling as the previous year. I must firstly congratulate the IFCR group of our District for organizing the largest ever Cricket tournament in its entire history from 29th November to 2nd December. I am proud to witness this event which was played on 8 cricket grounds in Pune. 30 teams and 450 plus Rotarians from all over India participated and played their cricket hard but equally enjoyed the camaraderie and fellowship in the evening. The icing on the cake was when Padmabhushan Chandu Borde presented the awards to the winning teams. I want to specially appreciate the efforts of Convenor Ganesh Kudale, Rtn Sunil Romila and Dr Amod Divekar for their meticulous planning and fabulous leadership during this process. This year we declared the RYLA fortnight from 3rd December to 18th
December. We had kept a target of giving benefit to atleast 20,000 students, the numbers are coming in but I must appreciate all our Club Leaders for responding to my call and participating wholeheartedly in this fortnight. The travels have incessantly continued across our district for the OCVs and the efforts have been enriching. The work is being done tremendously by all the clubs. I would specially mention the performance of Rujuta Desai from Shivajinagar who is such a committed and a meticulous planner. I would appreciate the efforts of Charu Shrotri from Poona West whose Cyber Suraksha program has been a revelation. Also the efforts of Amruta Deogaonkar from Gandhibhavan who was the anchor for the Guinness Record needs to be lauded. She committed to become a Major Donor during the OCV. Ramesh Patel from RC of Panvel Central, Sagar Gundewar from Kharghar Midtown, Col Prem Anand from RC Poona , Mohan Patwardhan from Pune South and Rupinder Beri from Sports City have also put in laudable efforts. I would specifically mention Purshottam Agarwal of RC of New Panvel who is putting tremendous efforts to complete their Dialysis centre and Rotary Hospital by end of January 2019. By the time I am writing this article the
membership figures of 1st Janaury 2019 have arrived and it is not a healthy sign at all. We added 430 members and lost 170 with a net gain of 260 members. All clubs will have to put in special efforts to ensure sustainable growth. Members are the heart of Rotary and we need to take special care of all of them. At no cost we should compromise on quality but we have to work on our members and grow positively by the end of Rotary year 2018-19. By the time the next article will reach you , our District Conference “ SYMPHONY “ will have concluded. On behalf of myself and my club RC of Panvel, I invite all of you to promote and attend this conference in large numbers on 2nd and 3rd Feb at Sunny’s world in Pune. A fabulous venue, delicious menu and galaxy of speakers await you at this conference. Padmashri Bunker Roy, Vir Chakra Awardee Lalit Rai, National Award winner Nitin Desai, Arun Lakhani from Niti Ayog, The Tarinis and many more will enrich you with their wisdom. Moksha the first Marathi Band will set the stage on fire during the evening Gala Dinner and Fellowship. Looking forward to seeing you in large numbers and enjoying the conference in abundance. Let us now all look forward to a rocking 2019. DG Dr Shailesh Palekar

Empowering women by Cow Donation Empowering women by cow donation - Global Grant Project by RC Poona North. Cow donation project is a unique humanitarian and signature project of RCPN. It is a great women empowerment project. It is also a Vocational Project as lady farmers are given training to look after and take proper care of cows donated to them. This is the biggest project in this field. This is Rotary Club of Poona North’s 7th Cow Project. RCPN works with a NGO DISHA. Disha locates lady farmers below poverty line, trains them on how to take care,
about cow fodder and cleanliness of cowshed. Then we see that there is a dairy close by to purchase milk. Only then the cow is donated to the ladies. These ladies buy cow of their choice. They start earning immediately by selling the milk. On an average, they additionally save around INR 3 to 4k per month. On15th April 2017 our Club received US$ 135,000=00 Global Grant Rotary Foundation for 300 cows. Out of these 300 cows 212 cows have been donated in 28 villages to needy farmers in Maval and Mulshi Taluka. This is best perpetually sustainable
and an unique Project of Economic Development. This project increases milk productivity, increases income, multiplies cow population exponentially (1 Calf /15months) and is a catalyst in prosperity of the region. This is synergy project with RC of Pune Sinhagad, RC of Chinchwad, RC of Dehu Road, RC of Magarpatta Elite, RC of Karve Nagar, RC of Pune Sahawas, RC of Poona Main, RC of Pune Mid East, RC Pune Riverside and RC Pune Metro. Our International partner is Rotary Club of Chu-Nan from Taiwan. On 10th December, PDG Porite of RC Chu-Nan and other PDGS from Taiwan, RC of Chungli and others around thirty six members visited the project. Foreign delegates remarked that it is a very good project, and were very happy to meet the satisfied lady farmers. By Rtn. Lata Kerkar Rotary Club of Poona North.

Inspiring others- The Art of Authenticity Before I write about what I believe being an inspiration is, I’m going to write about what I think it isn’t. Over the years, the ability to inspire has often been mistaken for the ability to accomplish. Being an inspiration isn’t about the number of medals, trophies and accolades you have in your name but about the extent to which you’re willing to go to stay true to yourself and what you believe in. Growing up a stage-shy girl, I never felt like I could ever speak in front of, let alone address a crowd but there came a day when I came up with what I like to call the 20 second rule. It takes 20 seconds to put your negative thoughts and discomfort aside, muster up all your courage and go do what you really want to do but are terrified of doing. I like to believe that if not many, my actions have inspired at least one person to do the same. Inspiration lies in being your true unapologetic self, with all your quirks, flaws and eccentricities and empowering those around you to let go of whatever is holding them back, and pursue their calling, irrespective of how ridiculous or unconventional it might seem to the rest of society. In a world full of echoes, let’s join hands in inspiring each other to be the voice. Annet Rashmi Birmole Rotary Club of Panvel

RYLA Fortnight RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards) is a much recommended programme of Rotary International. The award is in an intangible form of learning that will remain life-long with the participant. It is meant for youngsters 14-30 years of age. The aim is to provide them an opportunity to develop their skills and character while exposing them to Rotary’s great values of service, high ethical standards and world peace. RYLA programmes can range from one full day or even 10 days, with the format like a seminar or a Leadership camp. Overnight RYLAs are ideal as they provide a holistic experience and ample scope for better bonding. RYLA is a superb way for Rotarians to connect with, mentor and provide a unique opportunity to add value to the leadership potential of the youth. A truly wonderful way to share Rotary vision and work with the community and future leaders !
It was one of its Kind !!! The clubs conducted Day RYLAs for different durations. Students were rural and urban youth, high school students, college students, young professionals, Rotaractors and also differently abled youth. RC of Kothrud conducted an Inter District RYLA for the deaf and dumb students. Topics included leadership skills, Communication skills, conflict management, creative problem solving, career opportunities, selfconfidence, personality development, group activities, Yoga, Pranayam, physical fitness, sex education, current affairs, environment awareness, social causes, emotional management, community and global citizenship and Rotary information among others.
Ultimately whopping 34 RYLA programmes were conducted making RYLA Fortnight a resounding success!! It demonstrated Rotary’s respect and concern for the Youth. Provided the youth with invaluable training to be better leaders and last but not the least encouraged and assisted the youngsters by fostering their leadership skills. The success of the fortnight continues with the continuing RYLA programmes of the clubs and the feedback pouring in from the participants. The experience of the RYLA fortnight has been a truly satisfying and gratifying one ! Rtn. PP Pallavi Sable Dist 3131 RYLA Chair 2018-19
With this in mind and to showcase the fabulous work clubs in our district do for the Youth, ourbeloved DG Dr. ShaileshPalekar had the vision of having a RYLA fortnight. The RYLA Team accepted this challenge of turning vision into reality ! The District Youth team worked very hard for its planning. Dear Rotarians and Anns , Wishing you all a very happy and prosperous new year! Time runs very fast! New year is just round the corner and I am sure that you all are going to have a great time in the coming year too. I say with pleasure that the warmth and affection shown by the Rotarians and Anns during official DG visits

LN4 - Helping hands – Giving hands - Changing lives RC Poona Downtown’s Signature Project of LN-4 Prosthetic Hand has literally been going places! The name LN-4 comes from the Ellen Meadows Foundation,U.S.A which gives the hand free of cost. This path breaking project was started in the club by P.P.Shabbir Jamnagarwala and is running extremely successfully under his and Rtn.Pradeep Munot’s active involvement along with our Rotarians and spouses. LN-4 fitment is a Life changing experience for the recipients. Not only can they lift weights upto 2.5 kgs, they can even write with a pen, eat with a spoon and even drive a 2or 4 wheeler! The LN-4 Prosthetic hand is very light in weight, easy to operate and durable. Our LN-4 Team has devised and set up a systematic procedure for conducting Camps. The actual procedure to be followed at a camp has also been set which includes documentation,
training and counselling to the recipients. The success of Joint LN-4 Camp has more than 4000 satisfied recipients across the country in 12 states, 15 rotary districts and 27 Rotary clubs. With LN-4 Permanent Centre at Hadapsar anyone can walk in on any Saturday for fitment. Our Rotarian volunteers headed by Rtn.PP.Jitubhai Mehta are present there to welcome
them with open arms to give them an arm!!! And the best quote from a person living on Daund Railway Station, “My begging days are over, now, I can earn a respectable living for myself!” Rotary Club Of Poona Downtown is Giving Hands, Giving Dignity,Truly Serving Humanity! Rtn. Pallavi Sable
