POINTS TO PONDER New look, new feel, new columns...from the last issue we have started a new column 'Technology'. This would be a space reserved for the new technology that is being used in Rohan. To add to the column we have 2 more headings from this issue onwards… that too in Hindi. The columns are titled- && Amamo½`_² YZ g§nXm &&, where we will be focusing on the illnesses of the season and some ayurved based home remedies for the same. The other column "ñd' Ho$ nao - .. literally meaning.. beyond one's self... This column is dedicated to people, who in their own way, have tried to make this world a better place to live. You all know that Rohan is associated with several NGOs. Part of this column is dedicated to familiarize Rohanites with these NGOs. The second part is dedicated to Rohanites, who have rendered selfless service in their individual capacity. As this journey unfolds, many of us may get inspired to join the crusade, ourselves. Another interesting addition you will find is the Rohan Art Gallery. This space will showcase the artistic side of Rohanites. Scroll down for the new online feedback form to reach your voice directly & instantly to us. The best suggestions, contributions will find a place in the next issue. Hope you all like this new Avtaar of Rohanite Insider.

SAFETY CORNER Safety Promotional Activities - Rohan Mithila A very unique initiative is being taken at Rohan Mithila. Group of women labour was formed. TECHNOLOGY Hollow Core Slabs INDRODUCTION: Hollow core slabs- precast pre-stressed concrete section with voids to reduce weight and create a strong and efficient structural section. It is generally used as a fast and economical method of roof construction system. Hollow core slab can also serve as wall panels. They can also be used in precast and in-situ concrete or even steel or load bearing block work. ADVANTAGE: • Structural Efficiency: Core Voids in the Hollow core slabs reduce the weight of the section as well as the material consumed • Speed Of Erection: Hollow core slabs are cut to fit size as per requirement, therefore the time consuming activities such as shuttering and concrete pouring are eliminated. • Flexibillity of Design Approches: Hollow core slab are compatible with all construction types inducting Precast, insitu, concrete, steel structure or load bearing masonry. • Performed Site Services: Hollow core slabs can be provided with offsite formed service holes for mechanical or electrical fitments. This avoids need of labor for setting out and shuttering on site

• Minium Insitu Concrete: With the use of Hollow core slab, large volume of concreting is carried out offsite. It also saves time consuming site operation and requirement of onsite mixers / batching plant. • Fire Resistance: Hollow core slab can withstand the fire for up to 4 hours depending on the building code. Thermal insulation valuve with hollow core slabs can bring in more significance • Acoustic Valves: Hollow core slab provides a low sound transmission, which reduce the noise through floors & ceilings SITE PRODUCTION AT MITHILA We have started using this technology on a regular basis in Rohan Mithila for the following applications: • For pathways having length 500mm to 2000mm over podium slab to reduce filling load • For compound wall having length 4500mm • Electrical room roof slab having length 2000mm • For step lawn having length 6000 mm So far, we have produced 600mm wide & X 120 mm thick hollow core slab having various cutting lengths from 500 mm to 6000mm and Strength 50 mpa.

ARCHITECTURAL WONDER Hanging Temple or Monastery Most people have an idea about the Leaning Tower of Pisa in Italy as an architectural wonder of the world, but are not familiar with China's Architectural Wonder. Datong Hanging Temple. Luckily this temple was listed on “World's Top 10 Most Dangerous Architectures by the Times Magazine of United States on June, and more and more people would know about this excellent tourist spot. Hanging Temple or Monastery is located behind Hengshan Mountain, near to Datong, Shanxi Province. Hanging Temple traces back to 1400 years ago, the building process began at the time of Northern Wei Dynasty. According to the history of Hengshan Mountain, the whole construction started by only one person, a monk named Liao Ran. As an amazing construction wonder, Hanging Temple is even more dangerous than the Leaning Tower of Pisa. From the outlook of this wooden temple, it is easy to think that the temple is supported by these fragile wooden

sticks. Actually when the temple had just accomplished, there were no sticks to likely support the temple, and the whole temple seemed to be hanging against the cliff. But no one dared to come up to the temple, so later the master of the temple had to order workers to add several wooden sticks to comfort other people mentally. So we can see that the construction wisely adopts the theory of Mechanics, chiseling holes from the cliff face and plugging the beams and cantilevers into the holes as the support base of the whole temple. Hanging Temple's construction mixs mechanics and aesthetics, fully revealing the wisdom of ancient chinese people. Hanging Temple uniquely features Buddhist, Taoist and Confucians elements with a total of 40 halls and cabinets, it contains about 80 vivid sculptures made of iron, stone, copper and terracotta. When stepping into the temple, you can smell ancient feelings from the old woods.
