Los billetes de avión adquiridos después del 25 de abril de 2018 ya llevan incluido el coste de la tarjeta de turista, por lo que no es necesario comprar una.

SU HISTORIA...
Colón descubrió San Felipe de Puerto Plata en su primer viaje, el 12 de enero de 1493 y llamó a la montaña Monte de Plata (actual Loma Isabel de Torres) porque las nubes en su cima reflejaban el color plata. De ella toma el nombre la ciudad Puerto de Plata.
Puerto Plata, también llamada “La Novia del Atlántico”, se encuentra ubicada en la Costa Norte de la República Dominicana. Fue descubierta por el Almirante Cristóbal Colón en 1493. Uno de sus atributos más reconocidos es la arquitectura victoriana, nombre que recibe en honor a la reina Victoria de Inglaterra, que exhiben las edificaciones del Centro Histórico y su icónica glorieta en el Parque Central o Plaza

Independencia que evoca la influencia de los inmigrantes ingleses que llegaron a Puerto Plata en el siglo XIX. Los Taimáscaros son la representación folclórica de Puerto Plata en el Carnaval Dominicano. Sus originales atuendos recuerdan nuestras raíces taínas en sus caretas y la pertenencia al mar con los caracoles que llevan en sus trajes. Es uno de los grupos carnavalescos más autóctonos del país. Si tienes la oportunidad de visitarnos durante el mes de febrero, no puedes perderte de sus presentaciones!

Béisbol... El baseball es nuestro deporte insignia que nos llena de pasión y nos ha puesto en el ojo del mundo por las grandes figuras dominicanas que han sobresalido en las grandes ligas internacionales. Si visitas nuestro país durante el invierno, no debes perderte uno de los juegos de nuestros equipos, especialmente entre los eternos rivales: Licey y Águila.
¿Quieres aprender sobre baseball durante tu estadía en Puerto Plata? Visita el estadio y academia del pelotero de Grandes Ligas, Bartolo Colón, ubicado en Altamira.
Música... Cuando de buen ritmo se trata, es obligatorio hablar de la República Dominicana. Merengue, Bachata y Merengue Típico son las expresiones musicales y culturales de los dominicanos. Nuestro cadencioso ritmo es reconocido a nivel mundial gracias a nuestros embajadores de la música: Juan Luís Guerra, Romeo Santos, Wilfrido Vargas, Fernandito Villalona, Sergio Vargas, entre otros. En el año 2019, la Bachata fue reconocida por la UNESCO como Patrimonio Inmaterial de la Humanidad, un alto honor para nuestro país.
El municipio de Guananico en Puerto Plata, es considerado como la cuna donde se originó la música típica, que en un principio solo incluía los instrumentos de güira, tambora y acordeón.

Artesanía... La creatividad del dominicano se pone de manifiesto en su artesanía, utilizando diferentes elementos para crear piezas originales: coco, piel, tela, barro, cristales, papel y bolsas plásticas recicladas, son algunos de ellos. Puerto Plata es reconocido por su joyería artesanal, especialmente las creadas con ámbar, larimar y plata, con las que se realizan una variedad de piezas, tales como: anillos, dijes, pulseras, collares y otras similares. También puedes adquirir figuras en madera y las famosas muñecas sin rostros en barro, únicas en el mundo, ya que reflejan la mezcla de las tres razas del dominicano: taína, africana y española.

FUERTE SAN FELIPE. Es uno de los fuertes más antiguos en el hemisferio y ofrece una excelente vista al Océano Atlántico. Sus murallas protegieron la colonia española de los piratas ingleses. En ella guardó prisión el ilustre Padre de la Patria, Juan Pablo Duarte.
MUSEO DEL ÁMBAR. Puerto Plata es también conocida como “La Costa de Ámbar” por la abundancia de esta resina prehistórica en su territorio. Aquí podrás conocer el orígen e historia del ámbar dominicano y ver la famosa piedra utilizada en la película Jurassic Park. 5
Maravilloso ANFITEATRO PUERTO PLATA. escenario que cuenta con 22,200 pies cuadrados y puede albergar más de 4 mil espectadores. Está situado al pie de la Fortaleza San Felipe, desde su inauguración ha acogido a grandes artistas nacionales e internacionales.
MUSEO GENERAL GREGORIO LUPERÓN. Aquí se expone la vida e historia del General Gregorio Luperón, quien fuera Presidente de la República después de liderar la Gesta de la Restauración. Una gran fuente de historia, mostrada desde el lugar que fuera su hogar. 6
CASA DE CULTURA. Poseedora de un encantador estilo victoriano y ubicada frente al Parque Central. En ella se celebran exhibiciones de arte, eventos culturales y conferencias. Si quieres conocer más de la cultura de Puerto Plata, este espacio es un “must”. D I S C O V E R
CATEDRAL SAN FELIPE. La iglesia original construida de madera fue destruida por un incendio en 1863 durante la llamada “Guerra de la Restauración”. El templo reconstruido en estilo victoriano moderno, es la iglesia principal de la Diócesis de Puerto Plata.

MUNICIPIO SOSÚA... Localizada a unos 25 kilómetros de distancia de Puerto Plata y 6 kilómetros del aeropuerto Gregorio Luperón, se encuentra esta hermosa comunidad, cuyo desarrollo se debe a los más de 700 colonos judíos que se establecieron en esta comunidad a raíz de la percusión de Hitler. A pasar el tiempo, otros europeos han hecho de Sosúa su hogar, dándole un colorido cultural diferente a esta zona de la isla. Cuenta con lugares interesantes como: el Museo Judío, Playa Alicia (la cual se formó

PARQUE NACIONAL EL CHOCO Y LAS CUEVAS DE CABARETE. Ubicado a sólo 15 minutos de la playa y el corazón de Cabarete, el Parque Nacional El Choco ofrece un mundo de naturaleza para practicar senderismo, ciclismo de montaña, para nadar en lagunas de agua dulce, y para explorar cuevas. Según el Ministerio de Turismo, cuenta con una extensión de 78 kilómetros cuadrados, el parque tiene un montón de senderos que te llevarán a través de espesos bosques tropicales repletos de árboles de cacao y café, plantas medicinales, y dentro de cuevas, en partes secas y partes llenas de agua, que datan de millones de años. En el camino, podrás ver más de 30 especies de aves, lagartijas y murciélagos. Christopher Columbus discovered San Felipe of Puerto Plata on his first voyage, on January 12th 1493, and called the mountain (now Loma Isabel de Torres) Monte de Plata, because on its top, the clouds had a silver tone. Puerto Plata city takes its name from it.

SAN FELIPE FORT. This sixteenth century fortress is one of the oldest in the hemisphere. Offers a magnificent view to the Atlantic Ocean and beholds great history. It was used to protect the city from the English pirates, and inside its walls the patriarch Juan Pablo Duarte was imprisoned.
AMBER MUSEUM. Puerto Plata is also known as the Amber coast, as this prehistoric resin abounds. In the museum you will learn all about of Dominican Amber and the famous gem used in the movie Jurassic Park.

AMPHITHEATER PUERTO PLATA. A beautiful 22,200 square foot, with capacity for more than 4 thousand spectators. Its flanked by the San Felipe Fort and the Atlantic Ocean. Since its inauguration on 2017, it has witness the performance of many famed international and national artist.
GENERAL GREGORIO LUPERÓN MUSEUM. In this museum you can learn about the life and history of General Gregorio Luperón, President of the Dominican Republic and leader of the Restoration war. A great source of history about this national heroe, shown from the house he lived. 6

SOSUA MUNICIPALITY... 25 kilometers away from Puerto Plata and 6 kilometers from Gregorio Luperón International airport is Located the unique and beautiful city of Sosua, which withhold the history of hundreds of Jews immigrants, accepted by the Dominican government during Hitler’s prosecution. Along with this settlement came the development of several businesses that helped flourished the town. EL CHOCO NATIONAL PARK AND CUEVAS DE CABARETE. Located less than 15 minutes from the beach and the heart of Cabarete, El Choco National Park offers a world of nature for hikes, mountain biking, swimming in fresh water lagoons, and cave exploration. Stretching 78 square kilometers (30 square miles), a handful of hiking trails take you through thick tropical forest along cacao and coffee trees, medicinal plants, and into part dry, part waterfilled caves dating back millions of years. Along the way you’ll spot over 30 species of birds, lizards, and bats. There are bilingual guides at the entrance if you head to the park solo, or you can sign up for an organized hike or biking tour with an adventure outfitter in town.

ESTERO HONDO... Around a Breathtaking nature is the Manatees National Park, a protected area where you can watch several endanger species like manatees. About 40 of these mammals live in the mangrove swamps waters of Estero Hondo along with wild birds and crustaceous species.
The Manatee is a vegetarian mammal that can grow up to 15 feet and weight up to 3,000 pounds. This is definitely a place to include in your list if you are an animal and nature lover.
