Month - November 2018 Issue No. : 4

Dear Fellow Rotarians Greetings! I have to apologize at the very outset for bringing out this issue of PROHASATAN – GML a bit late as everyone in my Office including myself was overburdened with the Income Tax Return filing about which all of you are aware of ! November is the month in which for Rotary we celebrate the ROTARY FOUNDATION MONTH and in our personal lives we celebrate the FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS – DEEPAWALI. On behalf of DG’s Ofice I wish a happy Deepawali and prosperous New Year to all Rotarians and their family members. For Zone 5,6,7 and 8 we had Rotary Foundation Seminar organized by R C Hubli West wherein we deliberated with many topics regarding the TRF. Particular stress was given on participation by Clubs either in programme participation or raising funds for contribution to TRF. Zone 1,2 3 and 4 will be soon having a Zonal Seminar on TRF very soon as R C Gargis , Kolhapur is preparing itself for the Seminar. As informed earlier the number of Clubs coming forward for doing a Global Grant is increasing and the number of proposals submitted to TRF has reached to more than 5 and equal number of proposals are in the pipeline. The District Conference–PRERANA – will be organized in the month of January 2019 and the District Conference Organising Committee is putting all efforts to make a nice District Conference . Please register fast for the District Conference!

Dear Friends, we are really sorry for the delay of October issue for many technical reasons beyond our control. The October issue of Rotary News was highlighted by the help provided to Kerala state by Rotary in the worst ood of the century, through RID 3211. Armed with experience from the Gujrat earthquake of 2001-2002, PRIP Kalyan Banerjee has advised the local Rotary clubs to put up 3000 low cost shelters, each around 300 square feet, through global grants. RIP Barry Rassin stressed the importance to observe World polio day on 24th October. There is a separate article by Diana Schober giving the guidelines to ending polio. C. Basker has written about Chetana Sinha from Mhasvad ( hardly 40 kms from R.C.Vita city from our district) who developed a bank for local women, now having 1.4 lakh clients & deposits of over Rs. 3.78 crores in a drought prone area! Editor Rasheeda Bhagat writes about the LN4 prosthetic hand project of R.C. Jammu Aastha & R.C. Jammu Midtown, RID 3070, akin to the Jaipur foot project run by some clubs from our district. Rotary-Rotaract synergy essentiality has been highlighted in an article. It says India has 45000 Rotaractors, about 1/3 of the world Rotaractor population. It stresses the need for more Rotary clubs to sponsor Rotaract clubs. Five Indian DG interviews feature in this issue- E K Luke (R.C. Vaikom, D 3211), A V Pathy (R.C. Coimbtore, D 3201), E K Ummer (R.C. Nilambur, D 3202), Vinay Bhatia (R.C. Faridabad NIT,D 3011), and C R Chandrabob (R.C. Ranipet, D3231) And another good news- Our membership is listed at 5523, second only to RID 3054. Well, a very happy reading to you all.
