Dear Fellow Rotarians Greetings ! I have to apologize at the very outset for bringing out this issue of PROHASATAN–GML a bit late as everyone in my Office including myself was overburdened with the Income Tax Return filing about which all of you are aware of ! The month of September 2018 is celebrated as LITERACY month and I am sure all of you will enjoy and article contributed by a person to whom all of know us a TEACHER FOR LIFE TIME – none other than PDG Bazil D’s Souza. I had an occasion to visit the Silver Jubilee Celebrations function of the Rotary School managed by R C Hubli East which was started with a meagre strength of les than 25 Students and now takes care of 1200 Students! The month of August 2018 was the Membership Month and all of us enjoyed a nice treat about WHY WE MUST GROW from PDG Bansi Dhurandhar of RID 3131 in VISTAR–ATHE Membership development Seminar on 19th August at Kolhapur. I will be taken in right perspective by all of you if I say that 19th August 2018 marked a special day in the history of our District as we organized a Hand On Training Workshop of Global Grants–TANTRA wherein about 50 participants participated and learnt the nitty-gritties of Global Grants from inception to submission of Final Report. Our District is blessed with the rich treasure of the committed and dedicated Rotarians and I am happy to share with you all that PDG Dr.Rajan Deshpande has been conferred with the highest award in the field of Medicine – DR B C ROY AWARD which will be conferred on him at the hands of President of India very soon. On behalf of all of us let us congratulate PDG DR Rajan Deshpande which is friend and mentor to many of us.
We are glad to release the November GML just as we are all gearing for the 60th Rotary conference Prerana at Sangli on 4-5-6 January 2019. November issue of Rotary News features the editorial by Rasheeda Bhagat which discusses about the Chennai Institute, where the main topics were the Rs. 100 crore donation by Rtn. D Ravishankar and the fantastic reception accorded to RIPN Sushil Gupta. RIP Barry Rassin invites us for the Hamburg convention saying that it was his visit to the Las Vegas convention, which changed his Attitude towards Rotary Dramatically. He was very worried at the Chennai institute about membership stagnation at 1.2 million mark. “Frankly speaking” session has been covered in detail. The two weak points of Rotary according to him are lack of true diversity of members & overemphasis of TRF collections on the DG awards. He also urged the DGs to utilize 100% of their DDF. He showed concern about Rotary not changing fast enough unlike some other institutes. Three past presidents felicitated RIPN Sushil Gupta, who said that he was almost ‘drinking from a firehose’, considering the plethora of information coming to him in a very short time. And a pat on the back for India, which houses over 90 Arch Klumph members and over 4400 major donors. Bravo!
