The Museo d’arte della Svizzera italiana was founded from the merger between the Museo Cantonale d’Arte and the Museo d’Arte di Lugano. In its exhibition venues at LAC and the historic Palazzo Reali, it organises exhi bition projects aimed at exploring modern and contemporary art, as well as its permanent collection – the works in which range from the early fifteenth century until today.

Das Museo d’arte della Svizzera italiana entstand durch den Zusammenschluss des Museo Cantonale d’Arte und des Museo d’Arte Lugano. The Collezione Giancarlo e Danna Olgiati is open to the public in the exhibition venue next to the LAC cultural centre, displays over 200 important artworks, that span the decades between the early twentieth century to the present.

Continues the research about the origins of creativity through the works of Ciaccio. The work of the artist, in between art and philosophy also approached mono chrome art, concieved as a way of seeing the world, feeling exist ence and facing space and time.

UP22 is set up in the Spazio Maraini at Villa Malpensata and presents twenty-four works by four young talents in international photography. This is the third stage of a project which over the next few years will create a ver itable archive of contemporary photography in Lugano.

UP22 è allestita nello Spazio Maraini di Villa Malpensata e presenta ventiquattro opere di quattro giovani talenti della fotografia internazionale. Si tratta della ter za tappa di un progetto che nei prossimi anni costituirà a Lugano un vero e proprio archivio della fotografia contemporanea.

UP22 est installé dans le Spazio Maraini de la Villa Malpensata et présente vingt-quatre œuvres de quatre jeunes talents de la photo graphie internationale. Il s’agit de la troisième étape d’un projet qui créera au cours des prochaines années une véritable archive de la photographie contemporaine à Lugano.

D UP22 ist im Spazio Maraini der Villa Malpensata eingerichtet und präsentiert vierundzwanzig Werke von vier jungen Talenten der internationalen Fotografie.

La Fondazione ha finalità di carattere culturale ed educativo per l’arte. Forty-two colour lithographs made in 1960 by Marc Chagall for Daphnis and Chloé, is one of the most beautiful cycles of the 20th century. On display are twenty-four works created by Chagall between 1926 and 1979 and coming also from private col lections.

Quarante-deux lithographies en couleurs réalisées en 1960 par Marc Chagall pour Daphnis et Chloé, est l’un des plus beaux cycles du XXe siècle. Sont ex posées vingt-quatre œuvres réa lisées par Chagall entre 1926 et 1979 et provenant aussi de collections privées.

Zweiundvierzig Farblithografien, die Marc Chagall 1960 für Da phnis und Chloé, gilt als Höhe punkt seines grafischen Schaf fens und ist einer der schönsten Zyklen des 20. Jahrhunderts. The Hermann Hesse Museum in Montagnola, the first of its kind and the only one in Switzerland, was inaugurated on July 2, 1997 in occasion of the 120th anniver sary of the writer’s birth and pre serves precious tokens of the last 43 years of life of the artist and painter, who died in Montagno la in 1962. His works have been translated in 60 languages; 150 million copies have been pub lished globally.

The exhibition addresses the biographical impact on the novel as well as the Indian and Chinese influences which affected the narrative. These include Hesse’s origins in a family of missionaries, stud ies of Indian religions, self-exper iments in asceticism and yoga, and the application of psychoanalysis.

L’exposition explore les influences biographiques, mais aussi in diennes et chinoises sur le récit: les origines de Hesse d’une fa mille de missionnaires, les études des religions indiennes, les expé rimentations d’ascétisme et de yoga ainsi que l’application de la psychanalyse.

The Gypsotheque Gianluigi Giudici muse um was conceived, promoted and created by the Renato and Gianluigi Giudici Foundation. It was established to conserve, promote and spread awareness of the works of the sculptor Gianluigi Giudici of Como, who spent much of his working life in Switzerland and in the Canton of Ticino.

La gypsothèque Gianluigi Giudici est un musée conçu et réalisé par la Fondation Renato et Gianluigi Giudici. The Museum Villa Pia in Porza, created by the Erich Lindenberg Art Foundation was founded in 2008 by Mareen Koch. Mitten im Dorf Brè gelegen, ist das Museum dem Werk des Malers Wilhelm Schmid, gewidmet, einem Vertreter der deutschen Neuen Sachlichkeit, der sich 1937 im Tessin niederliess. Der Ausstellungsparcours wurde anlässlich seines 50. Todestages komplett überarbeitet und ermöglicht es dem Be sucher, die wichtigsten Momente des Lebens und der Kunst dieser facettenreichen und faszinierenden Persönlichkeit zu entdecken.

Situé au coeur du village de Brè, le Musée est consacré à l’oeuvre du peintre Wilhelm Schmid. Artiste suisse, représentant de la Nouvelle Objectivité, il s’est installé au Tessin en 1937. Le parcours de l’exposition a été entièrement revu à l’occasion du 50e anniversaire de sa mort et permet aux visiteurs de découvrir les principaux moments de la vie et de l’art de ce fascinant personnage aux multiples facettes.

Situato nel nucleo di Brè, il Museo è dedicato all’opera del pittore Wilhelm Schmid, espo nente della Nuova Oggettività, trasferitosi in Ticino nel 1937. Il percorso espositivo è stato rivisto in occasione dei 50 anni dalla sua scomparsa e permette di scoprire i principali momenti della vita e dell’arte di un personaggio poliedrico e affascinante.

Located in the centre of the village of Brè, the Museum is dedicated to the work of the painter Wilhelm Schmid, an exponent of the German New Objectivity, who moved to Ticino in 1937. The exhibition has been entirely revised on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of his passing and allows to retrace the pivotal moments of the life and art of a multifaceted and fascinating character.

Die Ausstellung wurde 2018 nach einem Abkommen zwischen der Stadt Lugano und dem Verband der Gedenk museen Lettlands eröffnet und widmet sich dem Schweizer Exil der beiden lettischen Intellektuellen Rainis und Aspazija im frühen 20. Jahrhundert.

The exhibition, created on the basis of a cooperation agreement between the municipality of the City of Lugano and the Association of Memorial Museums of Latvia, is dedicated to the Swiss exile of the Latvian writers Rainis and Aspazija at the beginning of the Twentieth Century.

Peintre professionnel, il a toujours été pointilleux dans le choix de ses thèmes fa voris: ses paysages sont d’abord très clairs et détaillés dans le trait et la couleur, puis, progressivement, se teintent de nuances délicates avec une propension à peine dis simulée à une mélancolie nostalgique qui cependant, au fil du temps, ne dessèche pas le jardin prolifique de sa mémoire.

A professional painter, meticulous in his choice of favourite subjects: very detailed landscapes particularly in the strokes and clear-cut colours, then, gradually, delicate nuances appear, with a poorly-concealed propensity for nostalgic melancholy that, over time, does not wither the prolific garden of his memory.

Lieblingsmotiv des Berufsmalers sind Landschaften, die er sehr gewissenhaft angeht. Zuerst sind die Konturen scharf, die Farben klar. Dann gehen sie in sanfte Schattierungen über, die zu einer offen kundig wehmütigen Sehnsucht neigen. Trotzdem bringt der fruchtbare Garten seiner Erinnerungen über die Jahre hinweg immer wieder neue Blüten hervor.

La miniera rappresenta l’unica esperienza possibile per vivere la storia della coltivazione e dell’estra zione di minerali auriferi in Svizzera.

The Malcantone has a subsoil rich in minerals, and various metals such as iron, lead, silver, and gold, extracted already in the 18 th century. This tunnel, known as the “Leonilde”, is now open to the public to explore the spectacular and character istic elements of the mining world. The Sessa mine is unique, offering the only possibility to experience the history of the extraction of gold minerals in Switzerland.

Die eindrückliche Ausstellung führt durch die Welt der Fischerei von der Urgeschich te bis heute. Es werden zahlreiche Themen behandelt, unter anderem der Bootsbau, der Fischhandel, die Herstellung von Fischernetzen, die Fischarten in unseren Flüssen und Seen, antike Fischereitech niken. Questo percorso espositivo è stato creato dai bambini della scuola dell’infanzia e dagli allievi della scuola elementare che nel corso di diversi mesi hanno scelto, all’interno delle proprie classi/sezioni, co nosciuto, approfondito ed esercitato un ar tista famoso. Sono state riprodotte, lungo i 570 metri del muro d’argine, 228 opere. Diese Ausstellung ist von Kindern des Kindergartens und der Grundschule ge schaffen worden. Im Laufe des Schuljahres haben die Kinder Werke verschiedener berühmter Künstler kennengelernt und einige davon auf der Mauer verwirk licht. Auf der 570 m langen Mauer sind so 228 Reproduktionen zu sehen. Les élèves de l’école enfantine et de l’école élémentaire qui, au cours des mois ont choisi, étudié, approfondi et travaillé sur des artistes célèbre au sein de leur classe et leur section, sont à l’origine de ce parcours d’exposition. The Plebano Museum’s collection shows the interaction between historical and archaeological pieces and contemporary art. This allows us to perceive timeframes and eras which though different, share common ground and similarities.

The forge, built in 1860, is the only one of its type still in existence in Switzer land. Here locals produced iron tools like scythes, sickles, shovels, spades and hoes. In 1992 the “Fondazione del Maglio del Malcantone” restored it in order to preserve some local history for the future generations of Malcantone. Il Maglio del Malcantone è l’unico esemplare a leva attualmente esistente in Svizzera. L’edificio, costruito nel 1860, ospitava un’officina dove si lavorava il ferro per ricavarne attrezzi e oggetti di uso comune. Nel 1992 la “Fondazione Maglio del Malcantone” ristrutturò l’officina e l’edificio per tramandare ai posteri parte della storia del Malcantone.

Der Maglio del Malcantone ist zurzeit die einzige Hammerschmiede der Schweiz mit einem Schwenkhammer. Das im Jahre 1860 erbaute Gebäude beherbergte eine Werkstatt, in der Eisen zur Herstellung von Werkzeugen und Alltagsgegenständen verarbeitet wurde. Im Jahr 1992 renovierte die „Fondazione Maglio del Malcantone“ die Hammerschmiede und das Gebäude, um den Nachfahren einen Teil der Ge schichte des Malcantone zu übermitteln. Construit en 1860, ce marteau-pilon est l’unique exemplaire à levier qui existe actuellement en Suisse. Dans cet atelier on travaillait le fer pour en tirer des outils et plusieurs objets d’usage commun. En 1992, la « Fondazione Maglio del Malcantone » remit l’édifice et son atelier en état afin de transmettre à la postérité l’histoire du Malcantone.

Il Museo presenta oltre un centinaio di questi attori di legno che dal 1966, grazie a Michel e Michèle Poletti, si sono esibiti sulla scena internazionale. Lo spazio espositivo accoglie anche altre prestigiose marionette affidate da diversi collezionisti.

The Museum exhibits more than a hundred of these wooden actors which, thanks to Michel and Michèle Poletti, have performed on the international stage since 1966. The exhibition area also accommodates other prestigious puppets, loaned or donated by various collectors.

In 2006, the Hotel International au Lac Lugano celebrated its centenary in style by installing a small museum on the first floor. Stories, objects and emotions from a fami ly and their hotel, which proudly showcase aspects of one hundred years of history and make them available to guests.

L’Hôtel International au Lac de Lugano a fêté ses 100 ans en 2006 et a profité de cette occasion pour créer un petit musée au 1er étage ouvert aux clients. Il rassemble les histoires, les objets et les émotions d’une famille et de leur hôtel qui racontent fièrement le siècle qui vient de s’écouler.

L’ideatorio ist ein Ort, wo man Wissen schaft mit Spass und Experimentieren entdecken kann. Verdi’s masterpiece will be performed under conductor Maestro Markus Poschner in an altogether new production by director Carmelo Rifici. The story deals with the love between Violetta, a worldly, jaded woman and Al fredo, her passionate admirer. It is only with Alfredo that Violetta discovers she is in love for the first time but standing in the way of their union is Germont, Alfre do’s father, and the illness that leads Violetta to an inexorable death. The production features the Orchestra della Svizzera ital iana and the Choir of the Radio televisione svizzera, along with the soprano Myrtò Papatanasiu and the tenor Airam Hernández.

Among the great European festivals, the FIT Festival welcomes every year in Lugano the great names of the international contemporary scene. Ten days of theatre, performance and dance, devoted to innovation and hy bridization of languages, and to anti-conventional artistic forms. Many side events and meetings after the show with the artists ap proach an increasingly wide and transversal audience. FIT brings to Ticino a snapshot, a colour picture of what is happening in Europe.
