Escape chilly temperatures in spring or fall and cycle flat, protected rail trails — plus scenic riding on the barrier islands and beaches along Florida’s gorgeous Gulf of Mexico. Take strolls on the beach, enjoy a kayak paddle in a protected mangrove area and sift the sand for shells and fossil shark teeth on a barrier island. Plus, visit the Salvador Dalí Museum.

ITINERARY

Begin with a spin in Fort Desoto State Park and check out the historic fort. Enjoy two evenings on Clearwater Beach where you can stroll and watch the sun set over the beautiful Gulf of Mexico. On Day 2, cycle protected rail trails to Tarpon Springs and learn about their Greek sponge diving history. Day 3 takes you on trails and into St. Petersburg, where you stay and visit the Salvador Dalí Museum.

Transfer to Venice on Day 4 and cycle on the Legacy Trail and onto the quiet beachside road of Casey Key. Day 5 includes cycling and a guided kayak paddle in Lemon Bay Aquatic Preserve. See how many fossilized shark teeth you can find!

On departure day, there’s a short ride followed by a special lunch — and transfer back to Tampa or the starting inn.

This is the perfect shoulder-season getaway with great trails, delicious seafood, and flat riding.
