Meet us in Pittsburgh for an outand-back to warm up your legs and log every trail mile. Then start pedaling south on the finely crushed gravel surface of the glorious 150mile GAP Trail. Enjoy the transition from suburban bike path into the bucolic landscape of forests, farms, towns and villages ... and experience the dramatic 100-foot-high Salisbury Viaduct with panoramic views.

Cross the Eastern Continental Divide and the Mason-Dixon Line before entering Maryland and picking up the 185-mile-long C&O Canal Trail. Follow the locks, tunnels and former towpath — a legacy of the heyday of water transport on this key canal.

Stop at Harpers Ferry for a dose of Civil War history. And see the dramatic Great Falls before finishing the trail in Washington, DC. Say farewell to the group at the end of the trail ... or stay on and explore the DC monuments and museums if you wish.
