Perfect Brunch for you...

SSUE Over time this hybrid meal has grown in popularity, though good food and companionship are still hallmarks of the experience we call brunch, Kenya restaurants have now joined as an icon to offering brunch experiences. With the lock down our minds were clogged to thoughts of weekends spent relaxing on the patio in the mid-morning sun. Now every weekend offers a limited window in which you can enjoy a storied meal which is both breakfast and lunch but always comes with a cocktail/ Mocktail or wine. Storytelling is best over brunch. It’s many peoples favourite way to spend time together socializing while sharing a meal. It’s time to reflect: a time to encourage one another, a time to celebrate the highs of the week and a time to acknowledge the lows. This kind of relationship seems to naturally build around a table full of food and conversation. I believe it’s one of the reasons this community is thriving and why brunch is such a popular activity for Kenyans. In this issue, we indulge ourselves while leaving our diets behind to taste all the joints Nairobi has to offer for breakfast.

We bring a guide to making that backyard a nestto host brunch at home and ultimate joints to brunch in Nairobi. It was hard work, really. Narrowing down the options was the hardest part. From staples like Pepper tree, to hidden gems like Geco café, to new takes on outdoor leisures in Tigoni and Evergreen park, eating brunch will always leave you coming back for more next weekend. We’ve got you brunches and other dining experiences that are fancy, affordable, or cheap as hell. That’s the power of a perfect brunch. That’s why it’s not enough to just write about it. As you think about where you will be sharing your next meal be sure to keep social distance and stay safe all times. Sanitize and keep healthy even as you escape with your small circle. Opportunity awaits, and so does some delicious food. Happy brunching

Getting too Attached?

An empty Kibanda is like a dead town. It speaks too much about the vicinity. MAMA OTIS had left for Ushago making some of our hearts grown fonder. She is a gem to the bachelors hood. Maybe just for her small little deeds, those that matter because even a small tear wets the face. Mama Oti is now back

was scrolling aimlessly through my phone when I heard someone knocking on the door. I really wanted to ignore it - it was one of those - do not disturd-kind of days, but the person was one of those patient and persistent ones. After a couple of my “Ni nani?” went unanswered, I lazily dragged myself for the door. I was surprised to find that it was Oti, Mama Oti’s son. I was surprised to see him here, and asked him to come inside. “Niaje Oti. What are you doing here?” He told me that he had been sent to bring up some fish. I quickly declined to not have ordered but he told me that this was a gift from Mathe who had just come back from Dala. “Ala, Mathe amerudi?” I asked and Oti said she had just come back early that morning. Mathe was spoiling me too much now, but who doesn’t like to be spoilt. Just before he left I asked Oti to tell Mathe that I would come down later to see and thank her personally

Mama Oti had been gone for about two weeks now, and her empty stall was hard to miss. It was just normal to see her there daily as I passed and her huge personality and loud voice always filled the air. At first, I thought that she was maybe taking a day off; but a day turned into two and two into a week and then more. It is good to have a regular 'Mama Mboga'; a place where you are a local and you feel right at home. It is important because your Mama Mboga treats you like your mother does, she takes care of you, at least mine does. You first begin as a customer and then the bond just grows on its own; you get to know her name and her yours. Then you start sharing some stories or two whenever you go to grab some groceries; it stops being a mere business transaction and becomes more social. After some time, you find yourself earning a banana or two and eventually your bond is unbreakable.

A letter to the president:

Imagine your cities and states without their most beloved restaurants and bars—from cherished third-generation mom-and-pops to cutting-edge fine-dining spots that bring tourists, international attention, and increased real-estate value to neighbourhoods. It’s unimaginable, right? As chefs, bartenders, and restaurant and bar owners, we are writing to tell you that without swift action and commitment from our local and state governments, many of the restaurants that closed voluntarily—or by mandate—at this moment of crisis will not come back. That sounds like an exaggeration. It is not. We are on the brink of extinction. Just as many individuals live from paycheck to paycheck, so too do restaurants and bars. There’s no nest egg. No reserve funds. No glass to break in case of emergency. We cannot work from home, and even if we temporarily convert to delivery and carry-out, we lose most of our revenue and the tips our employees depend upon to survive. Without significant help, many if not most of us will vanish, and our communities will be deprived of their gathering places, generosity, and memories old and yet to come. Dark spaces with hand-scrawled signs in the window will be grim souvenirs of the light and laughter that once emanated from them. We implore you to engage with the ministry of health, local industry leaders and restaurant associations to come to a swift plan for how you can meaningfully give your local restaurants and bars the best chance for survival. This action, gastronomy supported by associations and key institutions of the sector. "Let's save our sector, let’s save the millions of jobs and together we will overcome this bump

This avocado egg toast might be the perfect breakfast: Healthy, filling and delicious. Adding a twist to the classic avocado toast is to put everything bagel seasoning on it. It is a major upgrade to the already delicious avocado toast! It’s easy to do and goes great on so many things.

Ingredients Everything Seasoning: 1 tbs sesame seeds, 1 tsp garlic, 1 tsp onion powder, 1 tsp sesame seeds, 1 tsp kosher salt, 1/2 tsp cumin seeds Toast: 4 slices thick toast, 4 large eggs, 2 ripe avocados, 2 tbs butter

Instructions 1. Mix together everything seasoning and set aside. This will make more than you need for the toasts, but keep it! It goes great on many savoury dishes. 2. In a nonstick skillet, lightly butter your bread and place it in the skillet over medium heat. Let it get toasted on one side. 3. Remove bread and add a little more butter (1-2 tsp). Then crack in eggs and fry either sunny-side up or over easy. 4. Divide toast between plates and spread avocado on each. I like to use about 1/2 an avocado on each toast slice. Go heavy on it. Then top each toast with a generous sprinkling of everything seasoning and an egg. Enjoy!

16. SERVED IV

This summery dish walks the line between tangy, juicy tomato salad and hearty pasta salad. It's full of flavour and a quick fix for a lazy Sunday.

Ingredients 500g pasta of SANTA LUCIA , 250g jar sundried tomatoes packed in oil, 300g olives, drained & rinsed, 250g cheese, 500g cherry/grape tomatoes

Instructions 1. Cook the pasta: Bring a large pot of salted water to a full, rolling boil. Add the pasta, and stir to ensure it doesn’t stick. Cook according to package directions but test it two minutes before its ready. Once cooked, drain the pasta – but do not rinse! Set aside

2. Make the sundried tomato dressing: Meanwhile, as the pasta boils, add the sundried tomatoes & the oil into the bowl of a food processor or a high-powered blender and pulse the sundried tomatoes for about 30 seconds, or until they are completely broken down into a thick paste. Transfer the paste/dressing to a large bowl (large enough to toss the entire pasta salad!) and set aside. 3. Prep the veggies & cheese: Meanwhile (the pasta will likely still be cooking), prep the veggies and the cheese. Halve the olives. Halve the cherry tomatoes. Cut the cheese into bite-sized cubes. Set aside. 4. Assemble the pasta salad: Add the hot, cooked pasta to the bowl with the sundried tomato dressing. Toss to combine. Once the pasta is evenly coated, add in the olives, cheese, and cherry/ grape tomatoes. Toss once again to combine. Serve in a large bowl or a serving dish and enjoy!

17. FOOD STYLING

Cheese Fries

Stretchy cheese shots look fantastic. They stand out and capture the greatness of the dish. But it’s quite a challenging shot! Would you like to take mouth-watering photos like this...? Well getting a great Cheese fries with that pull shot is of course the lighting and timing, but along with that goes the presentation of the food by the stylist. To get such colour the contrast has to come out strongly and using bacon, jalapeños and green onions did just that. The shredded melted cheese has to top the fries evenly to ensure the pull comes out well. The results are stunning. Remember, It’s better where it’s wetter. That’s what cheese said. Let your passion for food shine though with this perfect styling.

Simply Outstanding...

19. 18. TUDISHY QUICK FIX

WITH PETER KYALO What is there to say, really, but SoDishy! As much as I wouldn’t want to cave to the trends, avocado toast is just too good and they have never tasted better! This Quick Fix avocado spread has only 3 ingredients and takes as quick as mashing one, to make. Tasty enough for a dip, spread, snack and easy appetizer! Avocados (the perfect fruit) never tend to be bland due to the many ways to fix it. A squeeze of Lemon juice, coupled with some simple spices just cut it. With chili flakes it is definitely a step above basic. I think that kick is what all our avocado toasts are missing! Total game changer! I can actually eat this stuff by the spoon and on plain toast! I love it so much that I had two for myself. The BEST avocado spread or dip if you wish!

This is arguably the most popular trail among hikers in Nairobi. The hills are located in Ngong, Southwest of Nairobi just a few minutes from the CBD. You can access it using any of the two entrances, one in Ngong and the other at Corner Baridi. The hills are made up of a range of seven hills, with the highest at 2760 meters.

Have you ever stood under a waterfall? Now imagine having that bite with the water ripples tickling your feet. If you haven’t, you are missing out on one of the most exhilarating feeling. Tigoni Waterfalls located deep within Limuru, at an establishment called Waterfall’s Inn, offer a great escape from the hustle and bustle of the city.

You can go to Ngong for a picnic or drive up one of the hills for a picnic and great time up there. For those hiking, it is advisable to start from the Ngong entry near the Ngong Police Station. You will also need lots of water and layers of clothes. The Kenya Forest Service also provides armed guides at a fees.

Nairobi National Park is the world’s only wildlife capital; the only national park in a capital city. This shows the history and heritage behind this gem of a place. Located along Lang’ata Road, the National Park is just a short drive from the Nairobi Central Business District.

If there is an all-round picnic area, it has to be Evergreen in Kiambu. This getaway picnic site is along Kiambu Road, about six kilometers from the Muthaiga Roundabout. The place is changing the Kenyan culture that has for long patronized nyama choma joints.

The wide-open grass plains and backdrop of the city scrapers, scattered acacia bush play host to a wide array of wildlife including the endangered black rhino, lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, buffaloes, vultures and a diverse birdlife with over 400 species. You can enjoy the park picnic sites, three campsites and the walking trails for hikers.

One unique feature at this place you get to, hear this, bring in your food and stove (BYOFS). So, do not be surprised when you see men burning their fingers while roasting nyama choma for theirs, or someone cooking ugali. There is also a dam, which in itself is a site to behold. Sitting next to the water as you enjoy your drink is one feeling you should strive to experience. On the dam are boats, which you can get on for a rare experience. Fishing is also done here, but only for research purposes, as the man-made lake is home to a variety of fish species.

Park entry fees vary with citizens (adult 400/-, child 200/-), residents (adult 400/-, child 200/) and non-residents (adult $ 35, child $20). The Nairobi Orphanage and Nairobi Safari Walk are also found within the National Park so you are really spoilt for choice. Park charges vary

Children are also bound to have a superb time with a bouncing castle, horse and camel riding available. Entry fees is 300/- per adult, 200/- per child (3-11 years) and 100/- per activity (bouncing castle, boat, horse & camel riding)

It's Complicated

U

Men are not the same

HDon’t assume your partner knows about everything you expect in a relationship. A relationship should be based on communication, not on assumption. Love without conversation is impossible. In any good relationship, good communication is key. How do you convey a message of truth without hurting the other party’s feelings in the process? narrates. AMANDA LUISE narrates on importance of hearing what isn’t being said.

nlike women, men never speak out their thoughts. They tend to get into their empty box. It’s always been a wonder how a man can sit on a sofa, the same posture, for a very long time without doing anything constructive and still be at ease. This was now Yang’s new favorite hobby. What had started out as the ‘couple goals’ relationship was now a mere entanglement. He could not believe what had just befallen his ears. None of his previous encounters had ever raised this issue. This was a first for him. Many thoughts lingered in his mind for a few seconds before he snapped back. “Let’s watch a movie love” he said to Grace as his fingers scrolled through his remote. He put the trending Polish hit 365 DNI , the most watched film of the week in numerous countries since it was released and gaining all sorts of attention for its rather raunchy nature and inviting comparisons with 50 Shades of Grey. Maybe it would enlighten the mood in the room. Yang was not in state to get into details so the movie became the best option in his case. The movie was not half way through when it went from being theory to being recreated. Yang hoped that this one time he took bae’s breathe away and made up for all the times he didn’t get it right. “Are you well baby girl?” Yang asked Grace with a smile on his face as he brought her lunch in bed. Grace was happy. Most people normally listen to respond rather than internalizing the message being conveyed. Yang had definitely paid attention to Grace and performed body anatomy as it should be.

He sat there watching her take every bite of the meal he made from practicing Dishy magazine recipes. He hoped that she would love every bite. Finding someone who partakes in your imperfections would be the hardest thing one would ever have to do. Yang could not picture his life without Grace. They shared too many memories together. His family had already grown fond of her. The number one lady in his life, his mother, had already given him her blessing. How could he throw all this away? He promised to do his homework and make her happier than she had ever been to save his relationship. The truth is rarely pure and never simple. Grace was happy that instead of confronting the situation, Yang listened and said he would look for the best solution for the situation. He reacted better than she had expected. The first step to solving a character issue is acceptance. Yang was one in a million. He was calm and collected. How many people would be handed the truth on a silver platter and not justify it? Grace felt much better for she got her troubles off her chest and was now looking forward to see the compass direction their relationship would take.

Backyard Revamp

Back gardens, no matter what their size, are often seen as social spaces. Social space at home is where you relax, entertain friends, or hang out with the family. Even small patios are used to entertain guests and can be revamped to hot beds for brunch or to relax with our families. To help encourage this, it could be worth making a few changes to your garden space. Here are a few ways that you can make your garden a more social space.

Open-Air Porch / Decking

Add More Walkways

Take advantage of your porch. Porches say "welcome" in a way that few other structures can. They used to be the way people socialized regularly with their neighbours — just pour a cold drink and sit on the porch, waving at people walking by or inviting friends up for a chat. Add homey accessories to make it feel like an outdoor room. If space is an issue, opt for a charming bistro table with two chairs.

Adding paving stone pathways leading to the various areas of your yard is a great way to enhance visual appeal and invite your guests to explore your outdoor spaces and gardens. Each landscaping feature and amenity should have its own walkway leading to it. This will make your yard look more organized, will guide your guests where you want them to go and keep people from walking on your grass.

Consider a patio or decking area

Install solar lighting

A patio or a decking area is a great way of designating a section of your garden as a social space. It provides a flat surface on which you can put lounge chairs and a dining table. While there are companies which can build a patio area for you if, you may want to take it on as a personal project. Similarly, it’s possible to build your own decking, although many may find it much more convenient to hire professionals to do it.

In the evening, people may not want to stay out in the garden if it’s pitch black. Plug-in mains lighting isn’t worth buying into – instead opt for solar lighting that will prevent trailing cables in the garden and be cheaper to run to help illuminate the space. You can even buy changing colour solar lights for something more fun.

27. DISHY DELIGHT II

Provide some heat

Encourage sports and games

Evenings in the garden can get pretty chilly. It can be worth investing in some form of heating that will keep people warm and eager to stay outdoors. You can buy electric patio heaters that also provide light, but these will use up energy or you could buy a chiminea. This works by adding logs or coal for fuel or for an even more dramatic garden feature, you could even build a fire pit.

Outdoor sports and games can help encourage people to have fun in the garden. Garden apparatus such as trampolines paddling pools , ping pong tables or table football can be especially beneficial for getting kids away from the TV screen.

Build a Pergola Pergolas provide an attractive option for adding a shade structure to your yard, particularly if your patio is currently uncovered. Small, pre-constructed pergolas are readily available and to add additional sun protection or privacy, consider adding patio curtains to create a more intimate outdoor entertaining space.

Tidy it up If your garden is an unkempt jungle, people won’t want to congregate out there. You don’t have to get involved in heavy gardening – simply keeping your garden trimmed back, Lawn mowed, paths swept- this could be enough to entice people out there.

Stone Fountain Conversation Starter You can customize any design of choice to suit your yard without changing the basic construction. A fountain of about 4 ft. in diameter would work.

Convenient Outdoor Kitchen Bring the kitchen outdoors, so you can prep meals and entertain friends and family at the same time. This outdoor kitchen could feature a built-in sink and grill. A grillzebo is a perfect place to cook the perfect steak, rain or shine, and it makes a great outdoor bar, too.

Jack it up

The sweet, sticky glaze will take your typical backyard burgers to the next level. You can use the Jack Daniel’s® BBQ sauces but it’s more fun to work everything for the grill. Jack Daniel’s combines well with water, pineapple juice, teriyaki sauce, soy sauce, garlic and brown sugar to create a perfect glaze for the juicy Jack burgers. It’s addition to the burger mixture really does make a difference to the flavour. It also helps to tenderise the beef, making it very tender and flavourful. The alcohol burns off during cooking, thus kids friendly. This burger has it all. It’s a game-changer.

ast time at Eating point, mathee treated us to some sumptuous Ugali and mboga kienyeji that most of the readers who made the personal visit came back showering praises and thankful messages for the being introduced to such a gem. Well, as always, our team has been sampling around and we have another food palace for you. Kibera- Woodley people refer this as Mama yao place. These mabati kibanda has a striking green colour, you would easily identify as you step into the aroma filled vicinity. We are speaking about the reknown ASK Nairobi Showgrounds. While most of you probably know the location for hosting the annual Nairobi show, it also comes with a host of dinning joints where you can enjoy a wide array of tasty foods. After endless sampling, we settled for Mama yao’s joint. We had been directed there as one of those joints to enjoy Omena. Word on the street has it, that her secret ingredients is much more than just socking the omena in warm water with lemon or using vinegar to soften the smell.

The place was full with busy waiters moving across the kibanda picking and serving orders. ‘Nipatie Omena-Ugali na Spinach,” I ordered reaching out for some pilipili teargas. Omena- (Omena as commonly known is actually, Luo wording, (thus dagaa in Swahili, mukene in Luganda) is a small silvery sardine-like fish famously from East African fresh waters particularly Lake Victoria. As always, our food plugs never go wrong. The food came on time, barely 2 minutes after the order. The Ugali, just how we like it, steamy hot and the spinach well-seasoned. The Omena portion was very generous and tasted even better. If you are an omena fan then you know it is one of those ‘depends on the cook’ liners type of food. Mama yao here did this that justice. The dish was clean and every flavour could be felt upon every bite. Delicious and heavenly, would suit just well especially considering it only cost 100/ ksh.

POWERING PERFECTIONISTS SINCE 1878

Freeze it, pour it, shake it, stir it - from bringing the heat to kicking it cool, possibilities with Jägermeister are limitless. Who could have guessed that what began as a celebratory drink among hunters would give rise to a story as bold, rich and varied as our iconic herbal liqueur itself? While most of us associate Jägermeister with frat parties and annoying drunk people the drink itself — a generally misunderstood, hazardously abused liqueur — has an interesting history, nuanced flavours, and digestive kindness. From a hard-to-break bottle, to an 80 years old impossible-to-crack secret recipe, and you have a drink that deserves closer inspection. Pronounced ‘Yey-Ger-My-Stir’, Jägermeister is a German name for the master of the hunt. The label is part of an old tale of Hubertas, who created the drink. After his wife died he walked to the woods to go hunting and saw a stag (giant manly dear) with a cross between its antlers, recalling a vision in the life of St Hubert, the patron saint of hunters. For many years, Jägermeister was believed to contain stag’s blood – a myth that was especially popular in the US. To this day, Jägermeister is made according to the original secret recipe from 1934. Regarding the stag’s blood rumour, we can clear up the mystery: rather than stag’s blood, the German bitter sweet liqueur is made from 56 varieties of herbs, fruits and spices, macerated in spirits for up to 6 weeks and then matured in oak before blending. It was Wilhelm Mast’s son, Curt, who took the family vinegar business in Wolfenbüttel, Germany in a very different direction before he perfected Jägermeister’s recipe. To this day, the eyes of our founder still watch over his creation; immortalized in stone. You know how we all like our liquor: with poetry. Jägermeister’s label has a very eloquent poem describing the connection to the hunt, with lyrics as lovely as, “This is the hunter’s blade of glory.” Although established in 1878, it was first produced in 1935. Jägermeister took off in the USA with the launch of branded ‘Tap machines’ in 1993 offering the ‘Ice cold shot’ experience. The case of Jägermeister bears this out – drinking it at room temperature is not pleasant. Jägermeister Bottling Note Although consumed as a frozen shot, Jägermeister has complexity and depth of flavour which shines when sipped as a digestive or as a top dressing in a cocktail Nose: Pungent and herbal with cherry, stewed fruit, chocolate. Cola cube sweets, liquorice and floral blossom

Palate: Full flavoured and wonderfully complex with Menthol, cinnamon, cloves, lemon zest, cardamom, gentian and dried mint leaves. A long mentholated aftertaste with mild alcohol presence Finish: Liquorice, cola, chocolate and cracked black pepper spice with a cool punch.

I have been behaving, following the staying at home directive almost to a fault. This past month I have been going literally nowhere; just been watching loads of movies, not being on the phone, helping with the cooking and cleaning and downing bottle after bottle of Jameson; all with Sl. It is what is needed after you guys are back together after a mini break up like ours, and trust me it works.

55. ON THE COUNTER

July had been a quiet month, and everything was even more silent in ‘The Boyz’ WhatsApp group, #Kikao. At the beginning of the curfew, the group was hyperactive, with everyone chipping in. There was; the whole meme competition, where Jamo, Allano and I competed on who sent the funniest meme; those two with the annoying ‘We are Champions’ videos and pics after Liverpool won the league; Allano with more funny videos; Jamo with the motivational quotes and a whole load more. But now all that had to be said, or rather sent, had been said and the group was dormant now. I almost forgot it existed, not that I had been on the phone, and I bet the boys had too. Everyone was just doing their thing. Then one Monday Jamo called. “Niaje buda,” then some casual small talk and then he asked if I could come along with him on a drive on Sato. I asked if I was to come alone - because with The Boyz you just never know, or bring Sly along. It was a boys’ day out, meaning Allano was also coming. He picked me up first and then Allan. We were going to Ruai, to see his ka shamba, a 50 by 100 plot. There was so much traffic on Kang’undo road that day, and Jamo said it was because many people go to see theirs or buy some land on Saturday. Saturdays are apparently busy days for realtors. The last time we were at Jamo’s there were not so many neighbors, but now it was different. The whole place looked different, with houses standing where there used to be a maize farm before, and also new houses being worked on. The guy who Jamo pays to water his trees showed up out of nowhere; and he definitely had had a drink or two. “Macharia naona unafanya kazi nzuri,” Jamo proudly told him. The trees were coming up really nice. I took the Jameson bottle from the car and pointed to Macha, “Uwekewe kakitu mkubwa?” and he grinned to the moon; so, I got him a tumbler and poured him some. Then Jamo and Macha began talking about construction plans and all that. Macha knew it all so well so he was Jamo’s center point in this ka project.

“Ala, inafaa hivyo chief.” And we emptied what remained of the Jameson in celebration. Our guy was making a really huge step here, and we were elated to hear it. Macha stayed for a half an hour or so, and then left. Then Jamo went quiet for a minute, the kind of quiet where you sense the heaviness of it. “Lakini there is something we have to talk about,” he began, and I could tell Allano was anticipating whatever Jamo had to say as much as I was. “Those tu loans you guy owe me manze, I will need it soon.” I had expected something much worse, something bad, like he needed a liver or something. However, this was just as bad. Yes, I owed him money, but there couldn’t be as bad a timing as this one. “Aii buda, the timing nayo manze,” Allano felt the same too. “Yes manze, lakini we ni my boy, you know the timing is bad. Not just for me, but Ted pia.” I acknowledged by nodding. Jamo knew it was bad timing; he knew because we talk about our finances, and this was a bad time, for all of us. I was disappointed that he had asked. Then Jamo said, “It is bad timing, but I need it.” And I needed some more whisky.

"

“Buda, ukona building plans nini?” Allano asked. “Manze bana, huoni vile majirani wamekuwa wengi,” Jamo was now pointing around, “It is time manze.”

Let's Meditate

Meditation is an approach to training the mind, similar to the way that fitness is an approach to training the body. It’s extremely difficult for a beginner to sit for hours and think of nothing or have an “empty mind” explains our Wellness expert EVE NJAMBI as she shares simple tips and guided practices to quiet your mind and make meditation part of your modern daily life

M

editation and mindfulness are buzzwords these days for good reason. Yogis have been practicing meditation for millennia for its benefits – to start with even meditating for 20 minutes per day for a few weeks reflects a positive impact. So let’s kick it off from the basics. What Is Meditation? An exquisite methodology exists within the yoga tradition that is designed to reveal the interconnectedness of every living thing. This fundamental unity is referred to as advaita. Meditation is the actual experience of this union. This happens when the mind becomes quiet. This mental stillness is created by bringing the body, mind, and senses into balance which, in turn, relaxes the nervous system. When we discover that our never-ending quest to possess things and our continual craving for pleasure and security can never be satisfied, our external quest turns inward, and just then we shift into the realm of meditation.

There are many ways, various processes and levels to achieve these. The end result, however, is to have a calmer and peaceful mind with reduced intensity of thoughts, attaining mental and emotional ‘centeredness’. Different Ways to Meditate Just as there are numerous styles of hatha yoga, so there are many ways to meditate. All this add to the key benefits of meditation like improving focus by 10x, improved immunity – 50% less diseases, less anxiety and depression, improved emotional well-being, healthier body and developing a super mind: better decision-making, retention and recall. The Use of Sound This employs the use of a particular sound, phrase, or affirmation as a point of focus. Basically, repeating your mantra as an instrument of thought.

The Use of Imagery Essentially any object is valid where a meditator visualizes his or her chosen deity -in vivid and detailed fashion. Some practitioners visualize a natural object such as a flower or the ocean. In this type of meditation, you focus on the area or organ of the body corresponding to a particular chakra (the concentrated energy centers of the body), imagining the particular color associated with it. Gazing This variation on the use of imagery is to maintain an open-eyed focus upon an object. Use this technique with your eyes fully opened or partially closed, creating a softer, diffused gaze. This technique also call for specific positioning of the eyes, such as gazing at the "third eye," the point between the eyebrows or at the tip of the nose

Breathing This involves using the breath as a point of focus. You can do this by actually counting the breaths. It’s purely observing the breath as it is, without changing it in any way. In this instance, the breath becomes the sole object of your meditation. You observe every nuance of the breath and each sensation it produces: how it moves in your abdomen and torso, how it feels as it moves in and out of your nose, its quality, its temperature, and so on. Physical Sensations This focuses on watching a physical sensation with the same degree of detail as you would when watching the breath. In this context, you will look deeply at, or penetrate, a particular sensation that draws your attention, such as how hot or cool your hands feel. Whatever you choose remains your point of focus for the whole practice.
