Recreation Equipment Added to Dawson Trail Park Community
tests it out during community clean-up weekend
The Richer Community Club and the Richer Recreation Equipment has purchased some recreation equipment for the park. The equipment includes everything required to play pickleball, badminton, volleyball, croquet, ladderball, cornhole toss and horseshoes.
The equipment will be made available daily when the summer students are hired.
The newly elected Vice President of the Richer Community Club, Troy Barkman has even jumped right into action and built the new horse shoe pits in behind the Trading Post picnic area.
Thanks to the volunteers who spent some time setting the equip ment up, it was tested out recently during the joint Richer Community
Club and RM of Ste. Anne “Make Our Communities Shine” weekend free community BBQ held on Sunday, May 5. The entire weekend
was made possible thanks to the residents who registered to clean up ditches throughout the municipality, over a dozen businesses who
sponsored the event with prizes for draws, and various service groups who came together to host the celebratory Sunday BBQ!

The youth involved are held to the highest standard of conduct and sportsmanship and the organization encourages the kids to continue on with their education.
“Hosting a high school rodeo is our opportunity to encourage our youth and promote positive values,” said Lanouette. “Hosting the finals is going to be exciting for both our committee and the competitors.”
In addition to hosting a 3-day competition for the finals, the local committee is tasked to create a banquet and prom along with an awards ceremony.
The Richer High School Rodeo Finals is scheduled for June 7 to 9 with the competition kicking off starting at 9 am each morning at the Dawson Trail Park in Richer. There is free admission for all spectators to watch the competition.
“We are inviting everyone to come and watch and cheer on these kids as they compete,” added Lanouette. “These kids are exciting to watch.”

The Shoe
By Pastor Ben FunkWhat is a shoe? You might say, that is rather mundane. That may well be, but that word has a variety of meanings and functions when applied to differing expectations. What is the function, what is the expected outcome, or need that is at hand. For one, a shoe is an outer covering for the human foot to protect from the elements. Typically having a thick or stiff sole with an attached heel and an upper part of lighter material. It can be made up of either leather, or nylon or other man made material. The purpose of this covering serves again a multiple needs such as protection from the cold or protecting of one’s feet from getting wet when walking in deeper water, such as rubber high tops.
Shoes are also devices that are used for slowing or stopping, or controls the motion of a locomotive or some other device to bring it to a stop or slow its motion. In time past all our cars had break shoes. At times we hear someone say; “if the shoe fits, wear it”. What is meant by that innuendo? It is a figure of speech that dates back to the 1600’s directed at an individual who has had a negative trait pointed out to them. An older audience may recall the title of a song: “These shoes are meant for walk’n, walk’n all over you”. This, obviously, has a strong negative overtone to it. There are other applications for shoe. It is a safety device to protect the wearer from hazards that may be on a path or on a job site. Other types of shoes are fashion statements to match ones attire.
The Psalmist writes that “Thy Word is a lamp unto my feet” shielding the individual from hazards that may be harmful to the pedestrian. Spiritually, footwear symbolizes readiness and preparedness for the journey of faith. Examples of this symbolism can be found in Ephesians 6:15, where believers are encouraged to have their feet fitted with a certain readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. The types of shoes worn in Biblical times reflect the importance of being spiritually grounded and prepared for the journey of faith. The shoes we wear are made for walk’n in the journey of life and spiritual development. May God’s lamp be your guide on your path of life.

Perennials vs. Annuals Comparison
By Trish SinananGardeners are often faced with the perennial question: should they invest in perennials or opt for the seasonal burst of color offered by annuals?
Perennial flowers offer enduring beauty year after year. With their resilience and diverse array of colors and fragrances, they require minimal maintenance yet provide maximum impact. Beyond aesthetics, they support local ecosystems by nourishing pollinators. On the other hand, annuals offer summer-long color and a massive variety of plants to choose from. However, annuals will not survive our winter, necessitating repurchase and replanting every year.
Not only can we reduce the cost of gardening by using more perennial flowers, but we also have a wide range of vegetables to choose from that will come back year after year. While many are familiar with reliable producers like rhubarb and saskatoons, there are numerous other options such as onions, kale, asparagus, various greens, and more. Although perennials may initially cost a few dollars more than annuals, it’s an investment that saves money in the long run by reducing the need to purchase annuals every year. We can slowly build up our perennial collection year after year.
If you prefer annuals, starting seeds yourself can be a cost-effective option. Many of us now have every windowsill in the house full of sprouts, eagerly awaiting transplanting into the garden. However, for those seeking a more sustainable and hassle-free approach, perennials offer a one-time investment that keeps on giving.
In the perennial vs. annual debate, well almost all plants are welcome in my garden! Whether you opt for the enduring beauty of perennials or the seasonal splendor of annuals, cultivating a garden filled with vibrant colors, fragrances, and sustainable delights is an endeavor worth pursuing. Happy Gardening.
