What Are You In Service To?

This is one of my favorite questions? It is an awareness practice or an honesty practice that I engage in. Sometimes the answer is not clear cut, but the journey we choose to embark on will reveal the clues – what have I been in service to as District Director? I am in service to YOU the members of District 47!

Fellow Toastmasters, I have found that if we are not asking these bigger questions, we tend to sleepwalk through life, through our relationships and through the powerful community we have created in our clubs, areas, and divisions. We can tend to take things for granted if we do not stop and reflect. This year gave us several opportunities to rediscover our why and to support each other unyieldingly. It is one of my highest intentions that the hero’s celebration introduced during the annual conference, will be part of the legacy of our District (see the recap on our YouTube Channel). Recognizing the members of District 47 was a huge part of the vision this year and I think we can agree that this vision was realized.

Another clue in answering the question – “what am I in service to?” - is in finding what is most important to us. We do this by looking at what we devote our time and attention to. Think about it: most of us give our time and money to the incredible, transformative community called Toastmasters. We do this because we get to witness life changing moments, career progressions, in some cases relationships restored simply because we practice communicating and leadership. How fortunate are we?

This year we placed first in the Toastmasters Internation Club Building Video Contest. A first-time contest from TI took the title as number one. Our winning video will be f across Toastmasters platform and during the 2022 Intern Convention. Celebrate this!!!

In addition, as of the date I am writing this message we a leaving our imprint not only in Region 8 but in the US (Region 1 – 9). Check the dashboard to see final numbers

Thank you, District 47 members, for reimagining an unpredictable year. Thank you for your indelible contributions in your clubs and the overall district. We celebrate you and all your accomplishments.

A special thank you to the 2021-2022 District 47 leadership team for allowing me the opportunity to be of service this year as your leader. I find myself in a real state of gratitude and appreciation for how you each adapted when we needed to. How you brought heart and grace in action to all the lows and most importantly how you were simply willing to do the work, to grow and to do what is best for the members of District 47. You have all enriched my life.

As I move into the role of Immediate Past District Director, I remain committed to the success of District 47. Here is a Fun Fact: my email staylor@toastmastersd47.org will remain for life having reached the office of District Director . I would however love to connect with you all on LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook. Simply search my name and reach out.

Please give your support to the talented in-coming leadership team of 2022-2023. We are in this together.

FROM THE DESK OF THE PROGRAM QUALITY DIRECTOR

The Toastmasters International District mission is to build new clubs and support all clubs achieving excellence. The only way this can happen is if all our members come together and achieve our respective and collective goals. As we continue to navigate the uncharted waters and move toward an eventual end to the pandemic, the members of District 47 have stepped up and heeded the call of duty time and time again. The Program Quality team would like to thank each and every one of you for your steadfast commitment to Toastmasters core values: integrity, respect, service, and excellence.

The Program Quality team has had the distinct pleasure of working intimately with members across the district, supporting the areas of education and training. We have educated and trained club offers and members throughout the District, despite all of the obstacles. We have held spectacular events such as Toastmasters Leadership Institutes, Club Officer Trainings, Speech Contests, and much more. On top of all of this, we have had a blast in the process. Together, we embody the benefits of this great organization.

Thank you, members of District 47 and all of the loved ones in your life. Thank you for not yielding during these trying times and for re-instilling a sense of faith in humanity for so many out there by the way you lead. Thank you to all club officers, members of the District Executive Council, and the Senior Leadership team. Special thanks to every member of District 47 for ensuring our clubs fulfill their goals.

Finally, thank you to the Program Quality team and the Distinguished Club Program Health Strategy team for all of your bonzer efforts in ensuring every member matters in Distr

I look forward to continuing my service to t of District 47 in the upcoming year and bey

FROM THE DESK OF THE CLUB GROWTH DIRECTOR

District 47

My goodness has it really been a year? Where did the time go? Your Club Growth team has been incredibly busy helping grow our membership and creating new clubs, supporting our district mission.

Of course, nothing happens without our incredible Division and Area Directors – they worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make the magic happen. Since our last conversation in December, we are proud to announce the following:

Help me welcome the following new clubs to our district:

BAMSI Toastmasters Club of the Bahamas

DSD Toastmasters

CCH Toastmasters

Claro Enterprise Solutions Toastmasters Club

Emerald Toastmasters Products Do the Talking Toastmasters at CCH

Toastmasters of St Lucie County

UKG Build Toastmasters

21 areas can boast that they have the highest net positive gains in their area – this is up from 17 areas that could make this claim in December 7 clubs became Talk Up Toastmasters winners having added 5 new, dual, or reinstated members between February and March. Our Facebook campaign has continued to provide additional guest names and our membership is increasing

On a national level, as of June 27th, – for regions 1-9 (the US, Caribbean and Brazil)

District 47 ranks #3 in new payments

District 47 ranks #1 in new Charter payments

Unfortunately, some clubs have retired this year, sigh. Sometimes, those clubs that have been hanging on for years finally decide that it is time to close. Take heart! This has been a year of planting seeds. Everywhere we went we planted seeds for new members and new clubs. We are working with a number or corporations, cities and non-profit organizations that are looking to start clubs.

It has been my honor to be the leader of the Club Growth Team. Thank you to each member listed below, thank you for still picking up the phone when I call, thank you for finishing strong not only to June 30th but into July and thank you for recognizing that everything we do is for the members and the district. FROM THE DESK OF THE PUBLIC RELATIONS MANAGER

Greetings my fellow toastmasters and dynamic members of District 47. I bring you greetings on behalf of the Public Relations Team of District 47. I am Rodney D. Bain, your District 47’s Public Relations Manager for the 2021 –2022 term.

I had the opportunity to serve the District with some remarkable leaders this toastmaster’s year. It has been a growing journey as we sought to reimagine, rediscover and recognize our place in this wonderful organization.

At the beginning of my term, I received a charge from the Region Advisor to share the correct story. I thank you for allowing me to tell your story this year. We worked together to rediscover the story of Toastmasters. We did this by showcasing you, our members, and telling the success stories. Telling the stories of overcoming doubt and fear and hitting your goals will not only inspire current members. But members who may have lost interest. Or new and potential members, seeking that spark to ignite their passion.

In my capacity, it was my job to keep you informed. District 47’s calendar of events, published on our website on July 1, 2021, helped in this regard. My team did our best to keep you aware of the events through emails, social media posts, and updating our website. We thank all of you who took the time to open an email, liked a post, forwarded a flyer, and in any way, large or small, shared the story of our District.

My team directly supported the area and division directors in creating brand-appropriate materials for contests and providing brand training and guidelines. We were excited to learn that you enjoyed the items. It truly means a lot.

Although my time in this capacity has concluded, there is still more of the story to be told. This past year we rediscovered our purpose, reimagined our efforts, and recognized our members. I encourage you to keep sharing your story. It is in the sharing that we inform, inspire and instruct. There are many great leaders who have yet to discover their full potential simply because they need Toastmasters.

FROM THE DESK OF THE PUBLIC RELATIONS MANAGER

I would appreciate it if you provide the same level of support, and even more, to the incoming team. Currently, the District has a Facebook page. And a Facebook group along with each division’s Facebook group. We have a LinkedIn page, a YouTube page, and an Instagram page. If you have not already done so, we would appreciate you liking the page, subscribing to our YouTube page and becoming a member of the group, and, most importantly, liking and sharing the content as it comes out.

Remember, my term is completed, but the job is not. Our mission is to build new clubs and support all clubs in achieving excellence. And the best way to do that is to be of service to you, our members. And why is that? Simply put, we see you, and we feel it is time for the world to see your greatness. I saw it and I am inspired! I cannot wait for the world to see what else is in store for you.

I appreciate you!

Yours in Service
