FAITH – GLENMORE PARK ANGLICAN CHURCH Article Written + Submitted by: Rev John Lavender P: 4733 1635 A: Cnr William Howell Dr + Pritchard Pl, Glenmore Park W: www. glenmoreparkanglican.com.au. Service Times: Sundays @ 8.30 and 10.15am, 5 + 7pm. Plus activities for adults + young people right throughout the week.

For Youth High School and being a teenager can be exciting and terrifying! Big things are worked out – who we are, who are our friends, what is life about, what does my future look like? It can be lonely and stressful, but also full of fun and friendships. The Bible has many helpful things to say to teenagers, and to parents trying hard to care for them. For example, from the book of 1 Timothy, “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.” What wonderful, wise, affirming words for our Youth to be encouraged and live by! It can be tough for our Youth, but Jesus offers hope and assurance. Jesus transforms lives with deep peace, joy and hope, that withstands the pressures, temptations, isolation and anxieties young people can face. At Glenmore Park Anglican Church, caring for High Schoolers, helping them know Jesus and navigate life, is a big priority! We teach Scripture at Glenmore Park High. We run Friday Night Velocity Youth, weekly from 7pm - 9pm for Year 6 to 12, plus meeting with them in smaller weekly Year Groups. We also have 7pm Night Church on Sundays – especially aimed at Youth. A big highlight is our Youth Summit Camp – coming up soon Wednesday 17th to Sunday 21st July at Port Hacking. The students love it! They return full of enthusiasm to live lives reflecting the Bible verse above, lives with Jesus at the centre, full of hope and growing in godliness of “speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.” Are you in High School? Do you know a High School Student? Take the plunge! Join us Friday, Sunday and at Summit – you’ll be surprised to discover the difference that knowing Jesus makes! Like to know more? Call Miles Stepniewski on 0415890391, or check out the “Velocity Youth” Facebook page. We have a great team of leaders and we know that your High School aged students will love it. FAITH - FOOTHILLS VINEYARD CHURCH Article Written + Submitted by: Pastor Paul Marshall W: www.fvc.org.au Sunday Service Time: 9:30am @ Cnr. Factory Rd & Loftus St, Regentville from Christmas Day

The Benefit of NOT Holding It All Together Our society rewards those who are strong, hold it all together, and don’t show any weakness. Sometimes this means that we put up appearances. For example, we might put on a brave face having a coffee with others, but cry in the car on the way home because things are so impossibly difficult. We might cover up our weaknesses or rationalise-away our failures. We might say, “So what’s wrong with that? People still think well of me.” Perhaps we might say, “It keeps me in line for the promotion.” Of course, the issue is that we still cry in the car on the way home! Only when we can share our struggle with others, will we find help. This is the benefit of NOT holding it all together. In the same way, unless we can see our failures for what they are, we won’t learn or grow. And if we don’t learn or grow, we will keep trying to live life the same way, with the same pain and disappointments. Jesus taught “blessed are the poor in spirit” because they will experience God showing up to help them. He is saying that when we can humbly recognise our need before God it is like inviting Him to enter our lives, catch our tears, and help us. Again, this is the benefit of NOT holding it all together. A young man struggling with doubt about God said to me, “I am holding my stuff together so why doesn’t God show up in my life?” The irony is that he may never know whether God is real until he stops holding it all together and needs God’s help.

Need a Real Gardener? Local businesswoman, mother and Glenmore Park resident, Sara Drebber, has been named as a Finalist in the 2019 Altitude Awards in the category of Purpose Driven Entrepreneur. This award is for women driving businesses that look to find a balance between profit, people and purpose, creating a force for positive change in the world. Sara’s business edUcatered was founded on the premise that there was a need to facilitate opportunities for teachers and parents to develop strategies to support the learning of children in their care, outside of the current education system. It operates on the key belief that each child has the ability to learn and as a community we need to support our children by catering for their individual needs. edUcatered prides itself on a strong commitment to providing quality, engaging and supportive services and consistently review operations to maintain best practice. “My aim is to create a community of learners which interact and support each other. Education is not the result of one person or place, but rather a number of factors which need to be united to create the best future possible for our children” explained Sara. Sara is dedicated to inspiring others, as she strives to create a positive impact in education through sharing her zest for learning and growing as individuals. She developed edUcatered to achieve that vision and is very excited to be nominated in this prestigious category. The Altitude Awards are an opportunity to acknowledge women from small business, local entrepreneurs who have made outstanding contributions as; business owners, volunteers, employees, creative thinkers in retail, charities and community organisations. Women with Altitude founder, Andrea Turner-Boys said, “We look forward to this time each year when we celebrate and champion the achievements of everyday people achieving extraordinary things. Each finalist has been chosen for their outstanding contributions in their field and an independent judging panel adjudicate the awards. We will be awarding the winner of each category at a Gala Awards Ball on Saturday 1st June at Liverpool Catholic Club event centre”. U Feature Article: Sara conducting one of her workshops. Last Opportunity to Purchase Land in Family-Friendly Mulgoa Rise Construction is nearing completion on the final stages of land in Western Sydney’s premier residential community, Mulgoa Rise. Over 500 homes have now been built in Mulgoa Rise. With only 60 home sites remaining, this will be one of the last opportunities to secure land within this established family-friendly community. The remaining home sites range in size from 465m² to 750+m² with different frontages available and are priced from $540,000. Mulgoa Rise has been master planned to offer a variety of home sites and dwelling choices to appeal to a diverse range of buyers at different life stages. As well as elevated prestige land, purchasers have a choice of completed designer 4-bedroom town homes and a large selection of house and land packages from some of Sydney’s most awarded builders. Mulpha Executive General Manager, Tim Spencer, said this choice, combined with the genuine village character of the estate, access to community facilities and convenience of nearby town amenities, is proving very attractive to home buyers. “Whether you are a first home buyer, or a family looking to upsize or resize to a larger home, this release offers a perfect opportunity to purchase a prepared block ready for building your dream home in an established community” Tim said. Close to the Blue Mountains and mostly bordered by national park, reserves and bushland, Mulgoa Rise has its own sporting fields and parks on the estate, with golf courses, lakes and rivers located nearby. This, together with walkways connecting the estate to Mulgoa Nature Reserve, will appeal to families looking to enjoy a healthy, outdoor lifestyle. With proposed neighbourhood shops and a new state-of-the-art primary school scheduled to open in 2023 adjacent to the estate, Mulgoa Rise is also just minutes away from Glenmore Park shopping centre, and a 10-minute drive to Westfield Penrith Plaza shopping centre with its abundance of restaurants, cafes, shopping and entertainment. The nearest train station, with direct links to the city, is a short 10-minute drive away. There is also a good selection of kindergartens, preschool and childcare centres, as well as public and private schools located nearby. Mulpha has a track record of success in building sustainable communities. Its team of people work together to design and integrate the latest thinking into innovative new residential and lifestyle estates/precincts that combine liveability, walkability, diversity and communities of the future. Some relief may finally be in sight for Mulgoa Rise, Bradley Heights and Highland Views residents who have been actively petitioning to get more adequate school bus services to the area. After discussing the concerns of local families about getting their children to school safely, the Glenmore Gazette received some welcoming news from Busways. A Busways spokesperson said “Transport for NSW is currently reviewing a proposal to make an adjustment to school services for Mulgoa Rise, Bethany Catholic Primary School and Caroline Chisholm College. A decision is expected shortly”. This news is a welcome relief to residents Mr and Mrs Attard, who said that it takes their children nearly 1.5 hours and two buses to get to their school in Mulgoa, which is only a 15-minute drive by car. The family have the option of the children travelling all the way to Penrith station to change to a connecting route or staying in Glenmore Park and waiting 40 to 50 minutes for a connecting bus at a stop with no shelter to protect them from the elements. Unfortunately, with both parents not working locally, they haven’t got the option to drive them to school and rely on the bus to get them there. Local residents Mr and Mrs Brown have a daughter that attends Glenmore Park Public School (the school she is zoned for). She waits for up to 45 minutes for a bus to Mulgoa Rise at her connecting bus stop each afternoon and a similar story to that of the Attard family in the morning, as her school does not have a direct service from Mulgoa Rise. She is hopeful that with more residents expressing their concern, that a resolve is now imminent. We certainly hope that the concerns of local families are heard, and the resources provided, in order to service the area so that all children can get to and from school safely, and in a timely fashion, soon. BOOK REVIEW

.....

Pharaoh by Jackie French

Pharaoh is a book that is based on a true story that happened in ancient Egypt, before the pyramids. The plot of the story is that Narmer, the Prince of Thinis, is the heir to his father’s throne. He has an accident and he must give his heir to his brother. Narmer decides to leave his town and become a trader, so he goes through tough times adjusting to the life of a trader and eating very little food compared to the life of a future king. This book made me read on because there are over 30 chapters and at the end of each chapter, the author Jackie French leaves you on a cliff-hanger. In my opinion, this book is suitable for people aged from 10 years and up, because it uses complex vocabulary. Jackie French wrote the book as if parts of it are made up, however, most of the characters in it are real. It’s a very good book and overall, I rate it 8.5 out of 10. Flynn

Making Friends in the Playground Having friends at school is a pivotal piece in the ‘happy at school’ jigsaw puzzle. Children who have positive relationships with peers are more likely to feel safe and happy at school compared to those who struggle to form friendships and feel as though they have little connections or sense of belonging. With the rise of technology and the prevalence of bullying, parents may be concerned when their children are expressing a lack of quality friendships. It is important to teach our children the social cues and skills needed to make friends at school themselves. Here are some simple, yet effective, strategies to make friends: 1. Ask a friend or teacher to introduce you If your child is new to the school, he/she will obviously not know many people on the first day. If they know one person, they can ask them to introduce their friends. This way, your child’s friend circle can grow much quicker. 2. Say hello and smile A joyful smile is the greatest way to introduce yourself to someone. A smile knows no language barrier and is an instant way of saying hello on the playground, in maths class, on the bus - wherever! 3. Volunteer to help Does the school have opportunities for student to be volunteers? Perhaps there is a buddy program or playground equipment and helper roster. Many lovely friendships can form from volunteering with people who are kind and thoughtful. 4. Sit on the buddy bench In some schools, they have a special designated bench seat where children who would like to play but have no one to play with can sit. Other children can then invite these children to join in with their games or offer friendship. This initiative works well for those children who may be shy and have trouble approaching others. 5. Get involved If your child’s school offers different activities at lunchtime, like coding club or a sport, encourage your child to sign up and get involved. Having the opportunity to bond over a shared experience outside the classroom is a great way to make friends. Building friendships can sometimes be difficult but with these strategies, your children will be equipped to make many positive connections with their peers. Glenmore Park Little Makers

The local community has welcomed a new playgroup to the area, with Glenmore Park Little Makers coming together for the first-time last month. The group meets every Friday, from 9:30am to 11:00am at Surveyors Creek Community Centre. The cost to participate in the group is $5 per casual visit or $40 per 10-week term (during school term only). “Our group is focused around messy and sensory play. Everything we do is edible, and we cater for the ages of 0 to 5 years of age. Everyone who attends also helps with set up, packing up, morning tea duties and cleaning” said Glenmore Park Little Makers’ Riri Kanjou. To be a part of the group, it requires families to sign up to Playgroup NSW for insurance purposes, which is currently free for the next 5 years. The playgroup is not-for-profit, and they try to keep costs affordable so that all families can attend. “I look forward to seeing the children get messy and have fun, without being told no you can’t do that because you will get dirty with friends. I would love to run it on more than one day, but it’s a lot of work so I would need a fantastic team like the one I have now” explained Riri. For more information about Glenmore Park Little Makers, you can request to join their Facebook group or visit Playgroup NSW’s website at www. playgroupnsw.org.au. The Great Glenmore Boot Drive

U Football boots wanted | Image Supplied. Article: Giulia Barron

Glenmore Park Football Club have placed a call out to the local community to donate used and no longer needed football boots. Throughout the year, the club receives a number of requests for donations of used football boots from our community. “We decided to collect due to interest from our soccer community. Every year, we are offered old boots that children have grown out of. Our parents wanted to give back said Chris Guy, Secretary of Glenmore Park Football Club. Local resident, Elise Ellabban commented “This is a fantastic initiative. Between the active kids’ voucher and boots available to those in need, sport is accessible to more kids than ever. Glenmore Park Football Club hopes this initiative sparks interest from all Nepean District clubs, to follow suit and do the same in their community. As families face rising living costs, sporting accessories needed can place a strain on family finances. By providing boots to players, the club is alleviating some of the financial burden. If you would like to donate boots you no longer need, visit the Club’s canteen on Saturday and Sunday’s located at “The Nest, Parkway Avenue in Mulgoa Rise. Removing the Biochemicals Lurking in your Muscles that cause Spasms & Pain? Continuing on from last month..... Shah etal created an acupuncture needle that allowed them to compare the relative concentrations of 8 key pain upregulating biochemicals in healthy muscle & from muscle containing trigger points confirmed by EMG. The biochemicals measured were TNFι, IL1β, serotonin, bradykinin, substance P, acid (H+), norepinephrine & calcitonin-gene-related-peptide (CGRP). So, what did they find? 1. Measurements taken immediately after inserting the needle into: a. the superficial layer of the muscle (but not into the trigger-point proper) showed that muscle with: i. active trigger points always contained high levels of all pain biochemicals, ii. latent trigger points contained slightly more than healthy muscle

iii. no trigger points (healthy muscle) had lowest levels b. the trigger-point proper, showed levels of muscle CGRP and substance P were: i. greatest for active trigger points, ii. much less for latent trigger points iii. lowest in healthy muscle 2. Needling a muscle’s trigger point significantly reduced the pain producing biochemicals CGRP & substance P afterward The pain promoting biochemicals in muscles with trigger points cause muscle to become hard & swollen with fluid. While this fluid remains in the muscle with all the biochemicals dissolved in it – the muscle remains dysfunctional & in pain. Muscle elongation therapy has been specifically developed to rid muscle, ligaments, tendons & bursa of this fluid to reduce pain & promote healing, so if you’re suffering ongoing musculoskeletal pain come see us at the clinic.

PAWS A WHILE

Article Written + Submitted by: Camille Brandt from Orchard Hills Veterinary Hospital A: 377 Wentworth Rd, Orchard Hills P: 4736 2027

We are Relocating to Bigger Premises We will be relocating to bigger premises in the next month. We will be located on the same road as we are currently on, Wentworth Road, but just further down the road. The new premises have been renovated to accommodate a veterinary hospital. The premises are huge! There are double brick walls, 3m high ceilings and a green bull nosed verandah around the front of the building. We will even have a concrete driveway and carpark! There will still be an off leash park in the front yard for you and your dogs to enjoy. We can’t wait!!!!! Camille purchased the veterinary hospital business nearly 9 years ago and there has been steady and continual growth of the business in this time. We started off with 4 staff and have grown to 16 staff members. We have definitely outgrown the current

we are moving, but you won't have to look far to find us!

premises! We are unsure of the date of the relocation at this time, as there is still some work to be completed. We will let you know as soon as we know. We are so excited, we cannot wait for you to visit our large country practice! We will keep you up to date on Facebook with any news of the relocation date. We look forward to meeting you and your pets at Orchard Hills Veterinary Hospital, and please feel free to pop in anytime and meet the team. For more information check out our Facebook, website www.orchardhillsvet.com.au or call 02 4736 2027. U Image: www.pexels.com

THE LAST WORD There's no doubt we've hit Winter. I know I've said it before, but Winter is my favourite season. I love the crisp morning air, and wonderful array of soups and stews that grace my dinner table during the season. This month Narelle talks about parenting and self care on page 8. Providing some great guidance on keeping the joy alive while juggling all the balls of busy parents. Don't miss out on our iFly giveaway on page 11. If you've 'ever dreamed of flying' now's your chance! Here at the District Gazette 'We Live.Love. Local'. If you have a local good news story to share we would love to hear from you! Time for a cuppa! Enjoy Your Community News. 'Don't just be good to others. Be good to yourself too.'
