A prison warden once stated that if you were to give prisoners a choice in either going home or staying in a luxury suite complete with T.V., sauna and a cocktail cabinet etc their choice is always to go home. So it is when things fail, when we are tired and bored, when we feel lonely, there is always the longing for home. “Let’s go home”: how many times have we heard these words? Why? Can it be a sense of belonging, a place of shared interaction, a place to be? We must go out into the world to know the attractive power of home. But many today have no home to go to. People like Nelson Mandela described his own experience as a nightmare regarding home. He wrote in his book “Long Walk to Freedom” in 1994, that he dreamed many times about going home and how he would be welcomed. But when he went after

his release from many years of prison, he found his home was empty. There is a vast difference between a house and home. A house gives shade and a degree of security but home is where one can find love and acceptance. During the Last Supper with his followers before his execution, Jesus the Christ gave them no sermon but encouragement that he would not share in the Supper until he had shown by his resurrection that death is not the final end for humanity. Early in his ministry Jesus gave assurance ‘that there are many rooms in my Father’s house. I am going to prepare a place for you’. As such, death as we know and experience is not the end but rather the beginning. Thus we live with a wonderful hope that in death we are at home with God in Christ Jesus.

Victory for the Lynx
The Under 9 T-ball team, the “Lynx”, from the Penrith Panthers Baseball Club who play at Andrews Road in Cranebrook, had a marvellous season this year. The Lynx were undefeated all year and wound up the season with a win by an innings in the Grand Final. Their statistics for and against for the normal season was 350 runs for and 213 against for a difference of +137. T-ball is played just like it’s ‘big brother’ baseball, however there are modified rules to allow the players to adapt to the game, until their skills develop. The ball is not pitched, it is batted from a tee. Lynx had 11 team members, 10 boys and 1 girl. Player rotation ensures everyone gets to field and bat each week. A feature of the games is the ‘ceremony’ of shaking hands before and after the game and acknowledging the supporters of both teams with a ‘raising’ of the baseball caps. Of course, a win is celebrated with the caps being thrown in the air. The Grand Final received a special celebration as the team performed the victory ‘dance’. The umpire reminded players before the Grand Final that the first rule was to have fun. The Lynx team certainly followed that instruction. The victory dance | Image: Lisa Kliendienst

Homework Habits Homework is an accepted part of every child’s schooling. However, it doesn’t have to become a family battle. The key is for parents and children to be prepared. Your child should have a set, regular time for homework that fits in around your schedule and your child’s other commitments such as sport or music lessons. Homework should come at a time after your child has had a chance to relax after arriving home and before they are allowed to play or watch television. Relaxing immediately after school is as important for children as it is for adults who want to wind down after coming home from work. Give your child an afternoon snack and use that time to find out what their homework tasks are, whether they need any special materials for projects, and when it needs to be ready. While children don’t have to have absolute quiet when working, they should have a homework area that has clear table space, is well lit, and is free from obvious distractions (like the television). If your child wants your opinion on how good their homework is don’t feel that you have to make sure the work is perfect before they hand it in. They may feel discouraged if you point out all the spelling and punctuation mistakes. Instead, say something positive about the work and, if you must make corrections, just choose one or two mistakes.
New Musical for St Paul’s Mark it in your diaries – this is one event not to be missed. Crazy for You is the ultimate feel-good musical. It blends romance with heartbreak, deception with trickery, and will have you laughing from the very first scene. It’s an exhilarating celebration of Gershwin music, the great Broadway musicals, and the amazing local talent we have to offer. More than anything, it’s all about spine-tingling, hair-raising exhilaration as you tap your feet to the beat. And with St Paul’s strong performing arts tradition, everything is polished to a flawless high gloss. There really are no compromises… The musical comedy has been in planning for over a year, with rehearsals starting in August 2017. No shortcuts have been taken, with props and costumes on hire from Opera Australia. Staging, sound and lighting equipment is all being hired, and industry professionals are providing production management assistance. Crazy for You. You’d be nothing short of crazy to miss it. GAME REVIEW
Mum’s Brunch
MARIO KART 8 DELUXE!
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is the expanded version of Mario Kart 8. There are 43 different characters such as Mario, Luigi, Peach and Yoshi. In Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, there are battle modes that consist of 5 mini games. They are balloon battle, renegade roundup, bob-omb blast, coin runners and shine thief. Balloon battle: You have 5 balloons to start off with and the aim of the game is to throw power-ups at your opponents to pop their balloons. Renegade roundup: There are two teams, cops and renegades (robbers). The cop’s job is to catch all the renegades with piranha plants and throw them into jail before the time runs out and the renegade’s job is to escape the clutches of the cops. Bob-omb blast: This is the same as balloon battle, but instead of throwing power-ups you throw bombs! Coin runners: You collect as many coins as possible before time runs out. Shine thief: There is a shine in the middle of the course and you must steal it for exactly 20 seconds to win. There are 23 different power-ups, such as the green shell, triple green shell, red shell, triple red shell and the crazy 8. Another fun mode is grand prix, where you can choose 50cc, 100cc, 150cc, mirror (which is the track backwards) and 200cc. There are 8 different cups, all consisting of 4 races. Once you choose 1, you race in the 4 races. At the end of each race, you receive points between 1 - 15 points, depending on your ranking. I recommend this game to anyone over the age of 4. I rate this game 10 out if 10 (only available on the Nintendo Switch).

RSPCA Million Paws Walk on Sunday 20th May 2018!! The RSPCA Million Paws Walk really is a dream day out for every dog and doggy lover! Families and their beloved fur babies will join thousands of people all across Australia as we walk together to fight animal cruelty. The RSPCA Million Paws Walk will take place in over 17 different locations across New South Wales in 2018, on Sunday 20 May. The Blue Mountains RSPCA Million Paws Walk will be held at Melrose Park, Katoomba. Registration on the day starts at 9am. The Million Paws Walk is RSPCA NSW’s largest annual event, where 100 per cent of funds raised by participant fundraising, event activities, donations and merchandise sales go directly towards helping animals in need. Funds raised will help care for the more than 33,000 animals who enter RSPCA NSW shelters every year after being abandoned, neglected or surrendered. Your hardearned fundraising will also be put towards keeping the inspectors on the road and making sure they can continue their education and community support programs. So, put on your walking shoes and come down for a day of fun activities, competitions, food, new friends, and of course, a great walk! Even if you don’t have a pooch of your own, we guarantee there will be plenty for you to play with on the day. What better way to spend a Sunday than having fun, hanging out with thousands of dogs and helping animals? Register your attendance and book tickets online at www.millionpawswalk.com.au. Check out our website for more information www.orchardhillsvet.com.au or join us on Facebook. And there you have it, almost 5 months tucked away 'just like that'. We enter this month with Mothers Day serving as a reminder to make magical the moments we have with our Mums, our Nan's, our Grandma's and all those wonderfully positive and inspiring role models that help us through this journey called 'life'. And for those gone too soon, your memories live on each minute, each moment, each day. On page 6 we have included one of my longtime favourite recipes, with Lemonade Scones you cannot go wrong. The ideal treat to dish up this Mother’s Day to help any budding cook stand out as a seasoned chef. We welcome Flynn as our budding Gazette Cadet this month, he’ll be providing all sorts of exciting reviews and write ups that will encourage kids wide and far to put down their devices briefly and enjoy some ‘time to read’. Now, it's time to put your feet up, make a cuppa and enjoy this jam-packed edition of 'Your Community News' "Inhale the future, exhale the past."
