O Christmas Tree, O Christmas Tree One of the great Christmas debates is whether to buy a real or a fake tree. With so many Christmas tree farms nearby, we thought we’d make a case for supporting these local businesses. Many of these farms are family owned and operated. They employ local people, while artificial trees can often be made overseas and sold by big chains. Mark Ford is one of the owners of Glenmore Christmas Tree Farm in Mulgoa, which has been in the family for 50 years. You can pick your own tree from the paddock, any size for $50. The farm is relatively small compared to some others in Luddenham, planting around 400 at a time, but said Mark, “it takes four to five years for a Christmas tree to grow, so we stagger them”. One of the top reasons for buying real is the wonderful scent of pine. Nothing quite compares. Mix that with the delicious aroma of freshly baking cookies and oh my, my, my. Real trees require no storage and have easier and more ethical methods of disposal. They are often composted or made in to mulch for use in garden areas. Plastic trees use more fossil fuels during the manufacturing and shipping and release more carbon pollution. Natural trees convert sunlight into wood, starch and sugar, taking carbon dioxide out of the air thereby helping to reduce changes to our climate. Because pine trees are not native to Australia, buying them allows the land to Mark Ford at Glenmore Christmas Tree Farm | Image + be used for that purpose and then new ones are planted each year. The families of 43 deaf and hearing-impaired students from across New South Wales, ACT and Tasmania celebrated a major milestone last month. The bright young students celebrated their graduation from The Shepherd Centre, having completed the organisation’s world leading Auditory-Verbal Therapy program at one of the five centres. They are excited to head off to “big school” next year - often with language skills on par, and in many instances, even ahead of their hearing peers. One of these graduates is Luddenham resident Sophie Price. Her family know the benefits of support from The Shepherd Centre. The Price family have experienced the support offered by The Shepherd Centre firsthand after daughter Sophie was diagnosed with hearing loss at birth. Sophie was born without an ear canal on the right side. When Sophie was about 18 months old, the family was connected with The Shepherd Centre and their leading early intervention services via recommendation from families in a similar situation. Sophie soon began attending fortnightly sessions with her therapist to work on her speech and language skills and has been thriving ever since. Mum Katie credits The Shepherd Centre for educating their family and providing them with strategies around how to best help Sophie access sound. While Sophie’s language skills were always good, the family have seen incredible progress in her speech – both of which are now at an age appropriate level and on par with her normal hearing peers. Her strong progress has meant that she’s been able to drop back on intensive therapy and instead attend weekly group sessions as she prepares to start Kindergarten next year. Now that 5-year-old Sophie has graduated from The Shepherd Centre in Liverpool, she is very excited to be heading to ‘big school’ in 2018. Sophie and the Price family | Image: Susan Harris

Come Alive at Christmas At its heart Christmas is a celebration. But a celebration of what? We say “Happy Christmas.” We sing “Joy to the world”, but why should we be happy? What joy is there to sing about? At Christmas we remember the words of an angel to a startled bunch of shepherds on that first Christmas morning recorded for us in the Bible’s book of Luke; “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all people. Today in the town of David a Saviour has been to you; he is Christ the Lord.” Luke’s account of Jesus’ birth reveals two important things. Firstly, Luke anchors this event firmly in history. It is terribly sad when people jump on the bandwagon of dismissing Jesus’ existence without checking the facts. In Luke’s account we see real people in a real place at a real time. In other words, if you were there 2000 years ago you would have been just as startled as the shepherds! Let me encourage you to carefully investigate the facts

for yourself. Secondly, Luke reveals the necessity for Jesus’ coming; Luke tells us that Jesus came as a “Saviour.” The reality is that our lives are out of step with God. We see it in our world. We see it in the people around us. And if we’re honest, we see it in ourselves. The angel declares that Jesus has come to rescue us from the consequences of ignoring God and keeping him on the sidelines of our life. Jesus has come to give us new life with God when we put our faith and trust in Jesus. This is why we can say “Happy Christmas.” This is why we can sing “Joy to the world.” We want to share this great news with you at our “Carols in the Park” at Blue Hills Oval in Glenmore Park and our Christmas Celebration Services on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Perinatal Depression and Anxiety Awareness Recognise the Signs
Expecting and new parents were urged to seek mental health support if they needed it, as events took place across NSW for Perinatal Anxiety and Depression Awareness Week, held last month. Minister for Mental Health Tanya Davies made the appeal recently, following an address to family health professionals at the NSW Health Perinatal and Infant Mental Health Symposium in Sydney. “While perinatal depression and anxiety is a serious condition that affects around 100,000 Australian families every year, many people suffer in silence,” Mrs Davies said. “Awareness has grown in recent times but often parents are still unable to recognise the signs in themselves, or loved ones, and we must ensure all families know the symptoms and where to get help.” Mrs Davies said NSW Government reforms have seen the reach of specialist perinatal and infant mental health services expand, with 19 new dedicated service positions funded in the last financial year. Mrs Davies also visited the Warragamba Silverdale Neighbourhood Centre playgroup to acknowledge the vital role community organisations play in helping parents recognise and talk about symptoms of anxiety and depression. “It can be difficult to talk openly about how you’re feeling but I encourage you or your partner, if you are not feeling yourself, to reach out and seek help,” Mrs Davies said. For more information about the signs and symptoms visit the Perinatal Anxiety and Depression Australia (PANDA) website www.panda.org.au or call 1300 726 306. To find specialist services in your local area speak to your GP or call the NSW Mental Health Line on 1800 011 511. If you or someone you know needs crisis support, call Lifeline on 13 11 14. Fairlight Art Trail a Great Success! The artists of Mulgoa enjoyed showing off their works to a large number of visitors, who came out despite the rainy weather, on the first day of their inaugural Fairlight Art Trail. Visitors were highly complimentary about the quality and range of works on show and quite a few took home new treasures. It’s now planned to make this an annual event. Art Trail member Shirley Peters was especially pleased recently, as she had just been awarded the $1000 first prize for “Best Painting In Exhibition” at the prestigious Blackheath Rhododendron Festival Art Show. Shirley Peters, Di Watson and John Rice are opening their studios for the second day of the Fairlight Art Trail along Fairlight Road in Mulgoa on Sunday 3rd December with some new works on display. Visitors can meet the artists, peruse the wonderful art works and maybe find that special Christmas gift. Why not make a day of it with lunch or afternoon tea at a local café or take a walk to the Rock Lookout or Riley’s Mountain? Pastor’s Corner The story of the first Christmas is the story of the birth of a baby called Jesus. This baby boy is God’s Son, and he has come down to earth for a purpose, we are that purpose. Jesus came to provide each of us with a way out from God’s judgement, Jesus stood in our place, for the forgiveness of our sins; sins can be big things like murder, or small things like not telling the truth; we all sin. As we approach Christmas, our focus is so often on preparations for the day, food and drink, purchasing gifts for those who we love, preparing our homes for the activities that will take place, or preparing to take a well-earned holiday break. Christmas is also for some, a time of loneliness, family and friends may be living elsewhere; perhaps you grieve the loss of loved ones, who have passed away; Then there are those important relationships, that have broken down, you were hurt, so you never see or speak to each other.
6 December 2017

The message of Jesus is so much more than a story of a little baby born in a stable in Bethlehem, it is about Jesus the Son of God who loves us, sacrificed for us, and forgives us. “For unto us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6-7 This Christmas why not invite someone to share your family celebrations with you? For many of us there is always too much food, why not share it with others. Have you thought about buying or making a gift, providing a helping hand, for a neighbour or someone you know? Do you know someone who would be encouraged by your gift? Why not be the person who takes the first positive step by forgiving those who have hurt you? Or do you need to be the person asking for forgiveness? God bless, may you experience peace and joy, this Christmas,

Country Music Festival 2017
The Warragamba Silverdale Neighbourhood Centre Inc. is a not for profit community organisation whose philosophy involves community engagement, development and support for the local community. A subcommittee from the neighbourhood centre is DamFest, who have created a new committee “Bold Jack Country Music Festival” to assist the local ANZAC committee in raising funds for the ANZAC Digger statue, which they hope will be achieved in time for next year’s 100th Anniversary of Remembrance Day celebrations. Joining local country heritage with a country music festival, they hope to also support our local businesses by bringing people to our township. Warragamba community survives today with a solid background of the original Dam builders and the truly distinctive community spirit that evolved from the 37 different nationalities that arrived here to start a new life in the temporary township. They came as individuals and families for a better life and together, they built the largest concrete structure of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere to house water for the ever-growing needs of Sydney’s Metropolitan area. There is a unique sense of community spirit that is still apparent with the many festivals and special events that continue to be a success and bring people into the township. They are hoping to see as many people as possible turn out for their first country music festival. They will be starting the day at 12:00pm with an outdoor stage featuring live music and other entertainment like pony rides, mechanical bull, jumping castle, market stalls and food vendors. Don’t forget to visit all our local businesses and see what a fantastic range of shops and restaurants we have before the main concert in the Town Hall, starting at 6:30pm with Country Artists Drew McAlister, Tori Darke, Ingrid Mae, Kora Naughton and Lochlann Bond. Don’t miss out on being a part of the day. Go to www.countryrocks.com.au/tickets to purchase your tickets. For more information, go to their Facebook page (Bold Jack Country Music Festival) or visit Warragamba Silverdale Neighbourhood Centre Inc on Facebook.

Silverdale resident Jessica Turunen was crowned Mrs Australia Continents at the Continents Pageant National final held in St Marys, last month. Looking to step outside of her comfort zone and to reclaim her identity after motherhood, Jessica decided on the ultimate challenge; to enter the Australian Continents Pageant! With the motto ‘Be your own kind of beautiful’ Jessica’s personal beliefs aligned with those of the pageant systems and she daringly completed the online application form. Not even 24 hours later Jessica was accepted as a national finalist and had also found her official sponsor, JF Designs. With the easy part done, Jessica began her journey by making appearances within her community, volunteering her time with various local and national charity organisations as well as working on her personal development. With only 8 weeks to prepare for the competition, Jessica knew she had to remain dedicated. While at nationals, Jessica competed in various stages of competition from evening wear, swimwear and fashion wear, to a personal interview round, where Jess took awards for best in interview, best in evening wear and miss photogenic. Along the way she secured a reputation of being nothing but an absolute sweetheart and adored by all contestants. From here, this charity driven local will now go on to compete overseas! Between now and the international final which will take place in June 2018 and will be held in Las Vegas in the USA, Jessica will continue to focus on her philanthropic work with a focus on mental health, personal development and community appearances. Jessica will take this journey with her newly crowned sister queens: Miss Australia Continents – Gemma White, Miss Teen Australia Continents – Brittnee Sheath, Ms Australia Continents – Jasmine Farlow and Miss Junior Australia

draft-western-city-district-plan-submission-form. Last month I attended the Forum On Western Sydney Airport’s last meeting of the year. What an interesting year and what a great group FOWSA is. Also last month, WSA Co (Western Sydney Airport Company) announced that an agreement had been signed between the Commonwealth Government, WSA Co and TransGrid to enable the relocation of the high-voltage power line that cross the site, to be laid underground and that three primary packages of work would be tendered for the main airport works program. The first package will cover all Stage 1 earthworks, drainage and utilities, together with airside pavements. The second package will be the terminal building and associated airside and landside interface works, whilst the third package will cover the landside roads, carparks and associated works. In November, Urban Infrastructure Minister the Hon. Paul Fletcher announced that Mr Vince Graham AM, Ms Anthea Hammon and Mr John Weber became additional Directors to the WSA Co Board. The Board continues to progress the recruitment of a CEO and other Senior Management roles, they also opened their offices in Liverpool, last month. I was also able to catch up with the Hon. Paul Fletcher MP – Minister for Urban Infrastructure and Regional Development along with Penrith Mayor John Thain last month to discuss our changing area and the need for a North South rail line. If you have an opinion on what Luddenham of the future should be like, please email your thoughts or views to willmingtons@bigpond.com. I would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your family a safe and Merry Christmas and wonder what 2018 will bring to Luddenham. Warragamba Wow!
Night Work On Mulgoa Road From Mid January
Warragamba Dam is an awesome feat of engineering and an example of how ordinary humans can undertake extraordinary things. But, there is another story of strength and hard work, and that is the resilience of the townspeople. After the completion of the Dam, the temporary town was meant to be demolished, but the hardy residents held on. They were, after all, an enduring lot, having undertaken the dangerous work of the construction on the Dam, building a permanent life in Warragamba obviously didn’t phase them. 2018 will mark 70 years since the beginning of the Warragamba Township and it is poised to be a very big year with lots happening in the area. “I’m excited for next year” said Joanne Vella, owner of The Bower Bird’s Nest of Treasures, “all the hard work that locals and Council have put in is starting to pay off ”. A $1.2 million all-inclusive playground will be pride of place right in the centre of town. This project is a long time in the making with the Council and the Touched by Olivia Foundation. There’s been great support from the community who have raised a whopping $20,500 from events like the recent Foods of the World Comedy Night held at Warragamba Town Hall. There is also a lot of excitement around the re-opening of the Eighteenth Street viewing platform. This will bring visitors through the town to see the other side of the Dam and then allow them the opportunity to patronise the shops. Many of the businesses are family run and have a very warm, friendly feel to them. Dam Break, a local cafe, is buzzing with chatter and laughter as owner Lorraine Brewer greets customers by first name. She’s owned the business for two years and has been pleasantly surprised to see it grow in “leaps and bounds”. There’s always something happening in the area. DamFest, Remembrance Day, Carols in the Park, Cruise for Charity, Bold Jack Country Music Festival, food vans, market stalls and more planned for next year. The spirit of human tenacity has deep roots in Warragamba - the little town with a big heart!
Roads and Maritime Services is advising motorists of essential maintenance work to be carried out on Mulgoa Road at Mulgoa from mid January 2018. The NSW Government is funding the work under its $1.5 billion program to maintain and improve the 18,028 kilometre state road network. The work aims to improve the road surface and reduce ongoing maintenance costs. The road surface will be replaced on Mulgoa Road for about 1.5 kilometres after Mayfair Road during 22 shifts between 8pm and 5am from Sunday to Friday from Monday 15 January to Friday 27 April 2018, weather permitting. Every effort will be made to minimise noise associated with the work and traffic control will be on site to ensure access to properties is maintained. There will be temporary traffic changes during work hours to ensure the work zone is safe. Motorists are advised to drive to the conditions, and follow the directions of signs and traffic control. Roads and Maritime Services thanks the community for its patience while work is carried out. For the latest traffic updates call 132 701, visit livetraffic.com or download the Live Traffic NSW App.

PARENTS CORNER
Article Written + Submitted by: Narelle Smith (Family Worker) Nepean Community + Neighbourhood Services P: 47218520 E: narelle@nepeancommunity.org.au FaceBook: Parenting in Penrith Blog: handsheartsminds.wordpress.com This past month, I have been doing a lot of toddler taming – teaching kids to be calm instead of fussing, screaming, or crying for their parents’ attention. Parents and children can get into a negative feedback loop. It goes something like this… • Child fusses, screams, cries to get attention • Parent pays attention to the fussing, screaming, or crying, and picks the child up • Child calms down Over time, the child either thinks she needs to fuss to get the parents’ attention or she doesn’t believe she can soothe without the parents’ help. The parent learns that the kid won’t stop screaming until he picks him up. Now, don’t get me wrong. Toddlers are entitled to a certain number of tantrums each day. The emotional centre of the brain (limbic system) heats up around ages 2 and 3 years old. Tantrums are normal at this age. But tantrums all day every day are not normal. Something has gone awry if this is happening. So, I have been teaching toddlers to be calm and ask the parent for a cuddle when s/he needs it, without the fussing. And I have been teaching parents to only respond to a calm child. The parent still stays close to the child, and occasionally reminds the child to calm using few words. The result has been calmer kids and parents, and more positive interactions. Calm is much better than stressed. You can teach your older kids to be calm too. I used to do this with my kids. If they yell at you, note the tone “that was a loud voice” or “that was a strong reaction”. I would then tell them to stop and take a deep breath. After they did that, I would prompt them to speak to me in a calm manner. Another trick is to tell the child what he is doing wrong, and what to do instead. For example, “James you are screaming at your brother, you need to use your calm, kind words”. You can use this strategy for any child's mistaken behaviour. Parents tell me that using this strategy helps them to stay calm, and focused on the child’s behaviour. Wishing you all a peaceful festive season and school holidays. Image: www.pixabay.com

Katelyn Exceeds @ Athletics! 12-year-old Katelyn Smith from Wallacia Public School is off to Adelaide in December to represent New South Wales at the Pacific School Games Athletics Championships. Katelyn qualified for the games with her fantastic performances at the recent Primary Schools State Championships (PSSA) in October where she competed in both Shot and Discus, throwing personal bests in both events. This included an awesome new PB of over a metre more than her previous best in the Shot to pick up the Bronze medal! In Adelaide, Katelyn will also compete in the Multi event which involves 4 events – Long, Shot, 100 and 800. She has previously medalled in the Multi event at State Little Athletics level and is very excited to be competing in a Multi competition at this high level. Most years medallists at PSSA Championships progress through to the School Sport Australia Championships (SSA), however, this year is a Pacific School Games year and lucky Katelyn will get to show off her skills against all the other Australian States in addition to a host of competitors from our Pacific neighbours including Fiji, Tonga and New Zealand to name a few. Katelyn has been a member of Warradale Little Athletics since the age of 3, competing at Zone, Region and State level and has set many records at both Club and Zone level. Warradale has had some very talented athletes over the last 30 plus years, but Katelyn is one of only three Warradale athletes ever to qualify for the Pacific School Games in Athletics. This highlights just what an awesome achievement this is. Congratulations Katelyn and we wish you the very best of luck in Adelaide and hope you enjoy every minute of this very special experience.

Mr Nathan Zamprogno, along with a number of HSC students who have recently left the Nepean Christian School, have been working hard on restoring the school’s 1934 Eastern Suburbs tram. The tram has served as the senior student’s common area for the past two years. As a parting gift, Mr Zamprogno and the students, have been busily restoring the ageing Sydney icon by stripping paint and repairing the metal and timber body. It’s still a long way to go, but the Principal, Mr Nunn, said, “The tram is part of the fabric of the school. To see it undergoing restoration is wonderful. I am thrilled at the generosity of time that Mr Zamprogno and the students have given”. Former students have a close relationship with the school and regularly return to attend events and contribute to the ongoing life of the school. When the tram is restored, it will eventually become an outdoor café for senior students and parents. Students will run the café as a small business to fund projects with their partner school, CCC, in Vanuatu. In July, all of Year 11 travelled to Vanuatu to work with the local school. Nepean Christian School is currently hosting all of Year 8 students from their partner school in Vanuatu. There are close bonds between the schools and the students have come to know each other well over the years of sharing. Mr Nunn commented, “It is delightful to see an Eastern Suburbs icon serving in Western Sydney and also benefitting the people of Vanuatu”. Mr Nathan Zamprogno hard at work | Image Supplied

The Pudding of Christmas Past
Right. Cards posted. Gifts wrapped. Menu sorted. Wine rack loaded. By the time Christmas Eve arrives, most of us are pretty exhausted from all of the shopping and organising. But, wait, oops, who forgot the Christmas pudding? Good thing the shops are still open, so we can make a quick dash for those last-minute items. Historically speaking, the Christmas pud was a great source of holiday anxiety for the cook, as the traditional way to prepare this seasonal treat was anything but last minute. The dessert was introduced to Australia at the beginning of British colonisation. The batter is made with eggs, suet, breadcrumbs and dried fruits like raisins, currants, figs and almonds with spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice. The 19th century housewife would work months in advance to produce the perfect pud which involved seeding the fruit, grating the breadcrumbs, hand mixing the heavy batter and then wrapping in calico, muslin or cheesecloth. Then there were hours of boiling, which meant tending a fire in a fuel stove or under the laundry copper. Then there were the last few minutes of finger crossing on Christmas Day hoping all her hard work didn’t produce a crumbly, sticky or heavy mess. Later after the Murrumbidgee Irrigation Scheme brought water to the desert, farmers in the Riverina were able to grow more citrus fruit which was preserved as candied peel and used in the puddings. Austrian port and sherry were being used by the 1950s for soaking the dried fruit in. Coins used to be placed in the batter and a year of luck bestowed on the lucky recipient, but when the currency changed in the 60s, testing found that the new coins turned green and made the pudding have a funny taste. Today, the Australian Mint sells coin packs with a mixture of vintage threepence and sixpence pieces, but recommends they are not baked into the pudding but ‘placed into warmed slices just prior to serving.’ These days, we don’t need a coin in our slice to realise how lucky we are to be able to purchase our Christmas Puddings. Functional Scoliosis – A Hidden Cause Of Future Back Injury! Scoliosis is a condition which can cause an immense amount of back pain. But what is scoliosis? When viewed from behind while standing, our spinal column should have all vertebrae in a nice, straight, ‘up & down’ line. Scoliosis occurs when the spine is not straight, i.e. deviates left or right at one or more points along its length. Very few people have a perfectly straight spine. Most of us will have a very slight amount of deviation here or there, usually without symptoms. There are two main sub-types of scoliosis: functional & structural. This month we’ll look at functional (non-structural) scoliosis, which is considered a temporary change of spinal curvature caused by anything that can cause a difference in the length of muscles impacting the spine. For example: 1. over development &/or shortening of muscles on one side of the body due to: a. one sided sports (golfers, tennis players, etc) b. differences in leg length c. altered movement while compensating for chronic or acute pain 2. muscle spasms due to: a. injury on or around the spine b. altered nerve flow to muscles c. inflammatory conditions, e.g. appendicitis Under such conditions the contracted (spasming) muscles on one side of the body pull vertebra away from the midline to produce scoliosis. When the muscles return to normal length scoliosis disappears. Treating functional scoliosis may be as simple as playing two sided sports, or getting an orthotic to even up leg lengths. However, when muscles have been contracted for a longer
period of time they can become stressed, slightly swollen (knots), painful and with their surrounding connective tissue sheaves much-shortened. Such muscles do not simply come back to their ideal length. Chronically shortened muscles in and around a slightly scoliotic spine can result in continual & excessive ‘wear & tear’ to vertebrae and discs, leading to premature degeneration of both. The result may be eventual disc rupture, or vertebral crush injuries. This wear & tear happens even from the normal, routine, bending or twisting movements that we do every day. Many acute back injuries result from accumulation of such small injuries. These chronically weaken vertebral tissue. Then one final trigger, like a heavy lift means, I see many tradies that never needed to have a back injury at all, had they kept their back muscles loose & spine straight. To allow such chronically shortened muscles to return to optimal length and condition, simple stretching may not be enough. Here’s where specific treatments such as ‘muscle elongation therapy’ (MET) and nutrition as practiced at our clinic can help. Treatment promotes healing, restoring affected tissue to optimal condition, and helps prevent further injury. Call the clinic if you’d like to learn more. Next edition we will talk about Structural Scoliosis Because there is an intricate feedback mechanism between tight muscles and the brain, tight muscles continually signal ‘STRESS, STRESS, STRESS’ to the brain. Following treatment people often perceive much reduced stress levels – a great side benefit. Keeping Your Pets Safe At Christmas • [Ham and Turkey (meat/bone/fat)] Causes vomiting, diarrhoea, pancreatitis, bowel obstruction, or constipation. • [Skewered Meat] If your dog is a rubbish raider, he/she may swallow a skewer, this can be life threatening should the oesophagus, stomach or intestine be pierced and cause peritonitis. • [Chocolate/Fudge] Causes vomiting, diarrhoea, pancreatitis, theobromine can cause chocolate toxicity resulting in seizures or death. The more cocoa that is in the chocolate the more toxic it will be. Cooking chocolate is seven times more toxic than milk chocolate. • [Coffee/Tea] Coffee and Tea contain xanthines, which can cause cardiac and nervous system damage. • [Grapes, Sultanas and Raisins] These contain a toxin that targets the kidneys and can cause renal failure. • [Macadamia Nuts] Causes vomiting, diarrhoea, pancreatitis. Macadamia nuts contain a toxin that can affect the nervous system of dogs – resulting in incoordination or paralysis. • [Alcohol] Alcohol even in small quantities can cause
intoxication. Clean up after parties and don’t leave drinks at dog heights. Alcohol can kill your pet. • [Cooked Bones] Never feed your dog/cats cooked bones. These bones can splinter and cause intestinal tearing causing peritonitis – this is life threatening. • [Artificial Sweeteners] Xylitol common in many sugar free drinks and lollies causes low blood sugar (even in small quantities) in dogs. • [Meat Soaked Strings from your Roast ] These taste delicious to your pets. Can cause linear foreign body requiring emergency surgery. • [Decorations and Wrappings] Risk for intestinal obstruction (linear foreign body) or strangulation. • [Christmas tree decorations] Can cause strangulation, intestinal obstructions, cuts from glass ornaments. • [Heat Stroke/Stress] An Australian Christmas is often spent around the pool or outside having fun. If your pet doesn’t know when to rest/stop playing/running laps around the pool they may quickly succumb to heat stroke. • [Batteries] If swallowed these can be toxic or cause an intestinal obstruction. • [Electrical Cables/Christmas Lights] Electrocution risk or fire risk if chewed. Don't you just love December? With the year almost behind us, we can set about improving on the year that was; or taking what we learned along the way and make changes to avoid a repeat. If your December calendar is anything like mine, there's hardly a minute to spare. We have plenty of amazing events right here in our own backyard, littered throughout December and January. Why would you need to be anywhere else? From us to you, wishing you and yours a happy and safe Christmas and a spectacular New Year! Here at the District Gazette, we'll return bigger and bolder in 2018, from February! "What is coming is better than what is gone" Enjoy your Community News.
