Warragamba Comes Alive with Damfest Damfest started a few years ago with a chat, a cup of coffee and some big ideas. This year will be the 13th Damfest Event and it will be bigger than ever, taking place on Sunday 15th of October at Warragamba Recreation Reserve. It is a family-friendly event that will please everyone, from amusement rides for the children to car shows and swap meets for the men and women of the family. Come along and say a big hello to Elsa and Anna from Frozen, who will be at Damfest from 12:00pm to 3:00pm. As you walk around the ground you can buy a cup of coffee, something to eat and purchase many novelty and unique gifts from the stall holders who will be there on the day. Damfest raises money for the local community and helps throughout the year with financial assistance for many causes, which includes the help and support offered to the Warragamba Silverdale Neighbourhood Centre (WSNC). This year, the Damfest Committee will be raising desperately needed funds for the statue for ANZAC Day in Memorial Park, plus many other clubs and organisations. Damfest takes months to prepare and without the ongoing support of the wonderful volunteers and sponsors, it would not take place. It truly is a unique event that changes with new ideas every year. Damfest caters for adults and children of all ages. Don’t forget to call into the WSNC tent and say hello to the volunteers from the WSNC Office, Teddy Bear Cottage and Wigwam. You can pick up your pre-purchased arm bands for the amusement rides there too. It promises to be a fun filled day for the whole family to enjoy. See you there! A great day out at Damfest | Image: www.damfest.org.au

Luddenham’s Own Country Markets You will find the perfect country markets, right here in our very own community, with the Luddenham Uniting Church Markets, which are held the first Saturday of the month at Church Hall on the Northern Road in Luddenham. The Luddenham Uniting Church Markets began over 20 years ago, with only a church stall selling donated goods. These days, it has grown immensely with more than 20 stalls which include plants, bric-a-brac, secondhand clothes, craft items, handmade goods, secondhand tools and goods, budgies and finches with bird accessories, jams, pickles, cakes and jewellery just to name a few. They also have the most delicious Devonshire teas and sandwiches available in their tea room. It’s important to support our local markets as the profits go to the upkeep of the historical church, which is celebrating its 131st Anniversary on the 22nd of October at 9:30am with a special service and morning tea afterwards. “The most enjoyable part of being involved with managing the markets is the friendly country atmosphere, where you make friends with regulars and even people passing through. The stallholders are all nice and friendly as well” said Heather Davies of Luddenham Uniting Church Markets.

FAITH – ANGLICAN PARISH OF MULGOA

Article Written + Submitted by: Rev John Lavender | The Anglican Parish of Mulgoa | P: 47331635 W: anglicanparishmulgoa.com.au Service Times: Sundays @ 9.30am 1st and 3rd Sunday @ St Thomas’ Mulgoa | A: 43 St Thomas’ Road Mulgoa 2nd, 4th and 5th Sunday @ St Paul’s Warragamba | A: 4 Weir Road Warragamba

Spring Is In The Air! Spring is in the air! Isn’t it great? Winter morning chill well and truly gone. No more ice on the windscreen as you head off to work! Spring is a great time to get outside and do some gardening – to clear out winter weeds and even grow your own veggies. How good are home grown tomatoes! In the Bible’s book of Mark, Jesus tells a story about gardening. He tells of a farmer who planted some seed. As the farmer scattered the seed, some fell on a path where it was eaten by the birds. Other seed fell on rocky places, but, because the soil was shallow, the plants withered and died. Some fell among weeds and thorn bushes, which strangled the plants as they tried to grow. Finally, seed also fell on good soil. Here it grew and produced a great crop. Jesus told this story to challenge people to think about his message of life, hope and forgiveness. Are you like the seed that fell on the path? Hearing Jesus’ message but not taking it seriously. Are you like the seed falling on a rocky place? You’ve heard Jesus’ message and thought it was great, but when tough times came, you gave it up. Perhaps you’re the seed falling among thorns. You’ve heard and responded to Jesus’ message. You were going nicely until

you were drawn away by busyness or the short-lived, shallow pleasures of this life. It is so sad to see people who waste Jesus’ life giving message. Make sure you are like the seed falling on good soil – hearing and responding to Jesus! Accepting it and making Jesus the centre of your life. Say “no” to the rocks, weeds and thorn bushes and don’t let them suck the life out of you. Keep making sure you are the good soil, growing and flourishing as you keep Jesus at the centre of your life. Would you like to know more? We’d love to see you at our Sunday Church Services (details above) or give us a call on 4733 1635. Rev John Lavender

Distinct Beauty 26-year-old local Silverdale resident, Jessica Turunen, has become a National finalist in the coveted Australian Continents Pageant. Jess was selected as a National Finalist for the competition. It recognises that everyone has the right to be their own kind of beautiful, the diversity between cultures and emphasises the opportunity to make new friends, embrace new experiences and try new challenges, all whilst meeting girls from all over our great nation. Unlike most other pageants, the Australian Continents Pageant system honours inner beauty and there are no height, weight or age restrictions for its Ms and Mrs finalists! The Continents system is available for ages 5 and up. With National finals now only weeks away, Jess is busy preparing herself to take the stage with the hopes of taking out her division title. Jess will compete in various stages of judging including personal interview and onstage evening gown, fashion wear and swimwear rounds. There is also the option to compete in charity and appearance rounds to claim bonus points. The top 5 from each division will then progress forward to an on-stage question portion of the competition. Should Jess be crowned her division winner, she will then fly to the United States next year to compete in the International Continents Pageant final as well as take home an amazing array of prizes from beauty products to shoes and clothing as well scholarships and more! When asked, this remarkable local said her mission through this journey is to “Do my best, and remain confident but humble throughout the process”. With the world at her feet, we are sure we can expect to see some big things from Jess.

Pastor’s Corner One of my favourite times of the day is early in the morning, I wake up I am refreshed, it may still be dark, everything is quiet and still. It is also the time when I sense God’s presence, we are close, it is a time of intimacy. It reminds me of a pond of water, still, undisturbed, at rest, peace, tranquility reigns, and it is undisturbed. Then of course the light starts to filter through, the noise of the day begins, the busyness and the challenges of the day act like a stone thrown into that pond, ripples appear. God is still there, but the noise and activity, makes it harder to sense His presence. My life is busy, when I retire, will I have time to relax and take the time to pursue those interests that just never happen. Yet, many of the retirees I know are just as busy; they too do not have enough time left each day, to accomplish what they want to, is free time always going to be hard to find? The bible says: ‘There’s an opportune time to do things, a right time for everything on the earth: A right time for birth and another for death, A right time to plant and another to reap, A right time to kill and another to heal, A right time to destroy and another to construct, A right time to cry and another to laugh, A right time to lament and another to cheer, A right time to make love and another to abstain, A right time to embrace and another to part, A right time to search and another to count your losses, A right time to hold on and another to let go, A right time to rip out and another to mend, A right time to shut up and another to speak up, A right time to love and another to hate, A right time to wage war and another to make peace.’ Ecclesiastes 3:1-8. My prayer is that you will spend time with God. God Bless, Lyndon Image: www.pexels.com

How Do We Encourage Children To Take Responsibility For Their Own Actions? It’s an issue that comes up frequently in the work I do with families. It’s particularly tricky because some of our leaders (ie, politicians) are not very good at taking responsibility for what they do or say. Blame is a pattern that is set in childhood and can become a lifelong problem in relationships and interactions with other people (school, community, work). When we don’t accept responsibility for ourselves, we can develop a victim mentality (passive), or become too controlling (aggressive). Here are a few things we can do… Be a good role model. Apologise when you have made a mistake. Apologise for your part in any misunderstanding or disagreement. Own your own emotions. Instead of saying “you make me angry”, say “I feel angry when …”. Don’t blame others for how you feel or for what you do. Understand that blame is a dead-end street. It stops you from seeing other possibilities. Be a calm and approachable parent. Parents who feel that they must punish their child for every mistake can create an environment where the child is too fearful to tell the truth. Sometimes the best life lessons are those that have logical consequences. Encourage children to be objective. When problem solving with your children, support them to state the problem in an objective way. Instead of saying “he isn’t following the rules” (blame) she could say “we are having trouble agreeing on the rules”. It’s a subtle change but an important one. Guide your child to review the situation. Ask your child “what went well?”, “what could you do different next time?”, and “what did you learn from this situation?”. Lectures are rarely effective. The best solutions are the ones that the child comes up with. Encourage your child to apologise for his/her part in the situation. Humility is a good value for children to learn. Relationship repair is also a good skill for humans to practice. What skills do you want your child to take with him/her into adulthood? Accepting responsibility develops into competence because children are more likely to learn from their mistakes, develop an understanding of cause and effect, and grow in their confidence to manage tricky situations.

joint MEDIA RELEASE Member for Mulgoa, Tanya Davies together with the Member for Penrith, Stuart Ayres issue the following joint statement: We wish to make clear our opposition to both the Fernhill Estate and the Wallacia Golf Club being used as future sites for cemetery developments. It is important that the amenity of Wallacia and the Mulgoa Valley be maintained. It was never envisaged by the local community that large-scale cemeteries would be developed on either of these sites. Whilst we recognise the need for future work in relation to identifying appropriate cemetery sites under the planning framework, developments such as these do not meet community expectations. We will continue to advocate within the New South Wales Government for no cemetery developments to take place within the Wallacia and Mulgoa Valley communities.

Spring is now well and truly in full flight the flowers are blooming, days are warmer and love is certainly in the air according to Mulgoa resident and award-winning professional photographer, Belinda Gerace. Belinda has showcased Mulgoa’s stunning landscape in the background of many wedding photos and always recommends the area to clients looking for somewhere that is extra special. “I love Mulgoa! It is my absolute favourite place to do pre-wedding and wedding shoots. Mulgoa is such a versatile area; it’s never really the same, even in the same spot it always seems different in some way. Whether it is a change in light or the abundance of green after the rain, it can just have a different feel. It definitely is a hidden gem” Belinda told the Gazette. With October being the most popular month for weddings in Australia this year, it is no surprise that Mulgoa has been a flurry lately with couples seeking to tie the knot and include this popular wedding destination in their special day. Mulgoa undoubtedly hosts an array of unique areas suitable for wedding ceremonies, receptions and photo shoots. From the rich heritage of St. Thomas’ Church and the iconic (recently reopened) Settlers, to the stunning backdrop of the Blue Mountains and Nepean River from The Rock Lookout and country charm of Mulgoa Valley Receptions – it is easy to see why many couples choose to make their memories in Mulgoa. There is no doubt that the area will continue to be a popular destination for couples celebrating their love for many years to come. Newly married couple Ben & Kiera Williamson at The Rock Lookout, Mulgoa Image: Kaptiv Images – Photography by Belinda Gerace. Local Papers Are Alive

In this age of digital discovery and electronic everything, we might be wondering what the future holds for the printed word. Will books, magazines and newspapers become obsolete giving way to their illuminated offspring? And what about community news publications? Will they die off? Here at the District Gazette, we know that newspapers are very much alive! According to research done by Gnosis at Georgetown University, ‘local newspapers play a complex role in communities, they embrace a civic life for the community’s citizens’. Local newspapers bring us together by connecting deeply with the community. They differ from larger papers because the stories are about our immediate neighbours and friends and local businesses. They provide a way to connect us all together to celebrate our wins, band together to help each other, provide much needed information about activities in the area, support local people running local businesses and most importantly, make us feel good about our neighbourhood. Not only do we regularly receive emails and phone calls, but

face to face feedback from readers who often stop us when we are out and about in the community. They love the local stories and content; mixed with the knowledge that they can reach out to local businesses. As a reporter for the Gazette, I enjoy getting out there, meeting folks, having a cuppa and finding out what’s going on in the area. Belinda Sanders has edited and owned the District Gazette since 2012. “We share stories of local people doing local things. We have countless amounts of readers contacting us to share their stories; stories of their friends and neighbours” said Belinda. “You know when you pick up a local community newspaper you get a real feel for the community you are in. A direct reflection; an up close and personal experience”. The advertising value for local businesses is proven by the fact that up to 70% of our current advertisers are past and longstanding advertisers, returning month after month with many for years. Belinda is quick to point out that “of course there is more to advertising than just putting an advertisement in. It’s about your brand, your reputation, your call to action”. Advertising in the District Gazette puts your business exactly where it needs to be; right in front of the community that are your potential customers! It’s a great way to build a relationship with your community. We'd love to hear from you if you have anything you think our community might be interested in reading about. Everybody’s got a story to tell or a hand to lend. We also buy and shop local. Local businesses are the lifeblood of our community. The benefits and feedback we receive show that community news is very much alive and well! The District Gazette is proud to support locals. We Live, Love Local. Article + Image: Lisa Finn-Powell

Warragamba Business Association Time to Consider Change The DA for the redevelopment of Silverdale shopping centre and the re-zoning of land surrounding has been published for comment. With the State Government now the sole arbiter on developments over $5 million, it is likely that the development will be approved. The plans look good and the new centre will be a boom for the area. Warragamba Village now needs to face the fact that change is inevitable. Unless property owners and business operators pull up their socks the new Silverdale Centre will hurt the Village. Increasing local population will not improve business prospects for the Village, as the proposed development will provide a one-stop resource.

The Village is by-passed by visitors to the Dam and who can blame them for giving us a miss? The businesses are local centric and in reality, cater for the population of Warragamba. A few businesses that do have some visitor appeal only open 5 days a week and are closed on public holidays. With the mooted housing and commercial developments Warragamba cannot pretend that it is a small country town any more. Unless we don’t have a vision for the Village that is well considered and can provide the resources to pursue that vision, Warragamba Village will become even more dilapidated. Council can’t help and many efforts have been made to attract buy-in from commercial property owners and business operators. Article Written + Submitted By: Warragamba Business Association

Inflammatory Bowel Diseases – Burn Your Bones! 2.4 million Australians (10%) suffer irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). 70,000 Australians are afflicted by the more serious inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) - ulcerative colitis (UC) or Crohn’s disease (CD). All are at higher risk of developing osteopenia or osteoporosis. Depending on the study 22-77% of IBD patients suffer osteopenia, 17-41% osteoporosis, with a 40% higher risk of fractures. Here are some facts about these diseases: 1. IBS’ cause is unknown. Patients suffer abdominal pain, cramping, bloating, gas, diarrhoea or constipation (sometimes alternating), mucus in the stool. IBS involves no inflammatory lesions in the bowel. 2. Both UC & CD do involve chronic inflammatory lesions in the bowel. 3. UC affects the large bowel only. Cause is unknown. Signs & symptoms vary with disease severity but include abdominal pain & cramping, rectal pain, urgency to defecate, inability despite urgency, diarrhoea oft with blood or pus, weight-loss, fatigue, fever, failure to thrive in children. Stool culture for bacteria, ova, or parasites is negative. 4. CD may affect any part of the gastrointestinal tract from mouth to anus. Cause is also unknown. Signs & symptoms vary with disease severity but include abdominal pain, diarrhoea (which may be bloody if inflammation is severe), dehydration, fever, and weight loss, anaemia plus many nonintestinal issues including skin & autoimmune disorders. These diseases can lead to poor bone health due both to the diseases & their treatment. IBS is often treated with anti-inflammatory corticosteroids such as prednisone. These have been shown to reduce Ca absorption, increase Ca loss and both impair and hasten the death of bone building cells called osteoblasts. This significantly

increases fracture risk, although treatment cessation may allow normalisation of fracture risk. Budesamide (poorly systemically absorbed) is now often used to reduce these effects. Methotrexate can also cause osteoporosis both at low & high dose. One common feature with all these disorders is malnutrition & nutritional deficiency due to: 1. Dietary restrictions required 2. Disease activity a. Blood loss, b. Chronic diarrhoea, c. Loss of specific absorptive sites d. Increased pro-inflammatory hormones production (TNF-alpha) - induce loss of appetite and cachexia 3. Surgery [arrow] loss of intestinal surface 4. Medications Protein-energy malnutrition has been reported in all three disorders but is more frequently observed in patients with CD (50-70%) than in patients with UC (18-62%). IBD can lead to deficiencies of: 1. Minerals: iron, calcium, magnesium, zinc, selenium & potassium; 2. Vitamins: B 9, B12, A, C, D, E & betacarotene have all been reported. IBS patients, due to frequent dietary restrictions, are also at risk of such deficiencies long term. Over the last few months, we’ve seen how important many of these nutrients are to bone health, so you can appreciate why people with bowel disorders may suffer more osteopenia & osteoporosis. Nutritional approaches to these diseases are available, come see us at the clinic.

Warragamba Dam Suspension Bridge

Pulse racing. Heart pounding. Palms sweating. Don’t look down! That’s the experience of many people who have fond and not so fond memories of crossing the Warragamba Dam suspension bridge. This footbridge was only built for use by the dam builders, so they could quickly and safely cross back and forth while the dam was being constructed. When the work finished in 1960, the bridge became part of the attraction, wooing the most daring of visitors to have a go at the exhilarating walk high above the deep gorge. It was largely made of wood and sustained significant termite damage which led to its closure in 1987, and then the Christmas Day bushfires of 2001 burnt it beyond repair. Warragamba resident Rita Copeman remembers it well because her late husband Cecil worked for the water board and was part of the Warragamba Dam crew. “This was his third dam. He’d already worked on the Nepean and the Avon” said Copeman. The bridge was of great interest to people as the views were so spectacular and really did take your breath away. “Everybody crossed it” she added, “because you could see the dam and the water coming over it”. Her younger brothers used to cycle all the way from Penrith through the bush just so they could walk across the bridge. Cecil however, had the most extraordinary experience with the bridge. He once had to paint it while hanging in a swinging chair underneath it, literally suspended from a suspension bridge! Copeman said that “they rigged up a seat underneath with ropes and things”, but that he took it all in his stride. Surely that made him a tad nervous? “No, not him” she said, “he didn’t worry about it at all”. Well, that bridge may have been made of wood, but Cecil Copeman’s nerves were made of steel.

PAWS A WHILE

Article Written + Submitted by: Camille Brandt from Orchard Hills Veterinary Hospital A: 377 Wentworth Rd, Orchard Hills P: 4736 2027

National Veterinary Nurse’s Day On Friday 13th October 2017 we plan to celebrate National Veterinary Nurse’s Day at Orchard Hills Veterinary Hospital. It is great to acknowledge the hard work and efforts of our Veterinary Nurses. The nurses do a lot of work behind the scenes that you do not see or hear about. The nurses monitor the patients whilst under general anaesthetic, medicate animals whilst in hospital, answer enquiries, clean the hospital, and ensure the smooth running of the Veterinary hospital. Without the Veterinary Nurses, we would not be able to do our job as a Veterinarian. We plan to celebrate by having a long lunch with enough food to feed an army. We have 8 nurses at the hospital, and I hope you get to know them as you come and visit our hospital.

Renai Lewis – Practice Manager Renai has grown up in the Penrith area and has seen many changes over the years. Renai joined the team in August 2014 where she was warmly welcomed by all. Renai has 3 furbabies including: Tasha (Labrador x Staffy), Ally (Golden Labrador) and Cooper (a naughty young learning Labrador). Renai adores her pets and spends every spare minute with them, when she is not busy being a wife and mum to 4 adult children.

Karen Smith - Senior Nurse Karen has previously worked for a number of years with Camille and Shelly as a Veterinary Nurse Manager at a previous Veterinary clinic. Karen is excited to join the team at Orchard Hills Veterinary Hospital in March 2017. Karen had a long Veterinary Nurse career, before taking time away to start a family. Karen has a passion for dog behaviour and dog training. Karen successfully ran Puppy Preschool and Dog Training in the Southern Highlands. Karen lives in the Southern Highlands with her daughter and young whippet Toby.

Kirsti Lane After 20 years of Veterinary Nursing, Kirsti went back to TAFE to update her qualifications. Kirsti graduated from Veterinary Nursing Certificate IV (again) in June 2016. Kirsti enjoyed the study and found that the basics had not changed, but technology had certainly advanced. Kirsti enjoys spending her time off with her daughter and husband (and her animals of course) camping, bushwalking and trying to keep fit! They have 3 dogs (Roxy, Rory and Crumbs), 2 cats (Ivory Grace and William Wallace), 3 fish, 2 birds and several hermit crabs!

Rachel Kent Rachel graduated as a Veterinary Nurse in December 2012 at Richmond TAFE. She enjoys spending time with her friends and family when she is not at work. Rachel has a much loved Labrador Molly, and Jinx the cat. Rachel is currently studying the Certificate IV in Companion Animal Services at the Delta Institute, which is an animal behaviour and training course. Rachel began teaching the Puppy Preschool at Orchard Hills Veterinary Hospital in December 2015. Rachel is enjoying the study and the hands on experience with Puppy Preschool.

Jessica completed TAFE work experience with us and joined our team in Jan 2015 as a kennel hand. Jessica completed the Veterinary Nursing Certificate IV in July 2016. Jessica has had many different kinds of animals in her lifetime currently owning her river turtle Sheldon, a blue tongue Olly, her cockatiel Toggle, many different fish and a Norwegian Elkhound named Tahoe. Jessica loves working at Orchard Hills and is looking forward to working towards her dream job as a Veterinarian.

Carly Hopkins Carly has been Veterinary Nursing since 2002, completing her studies in 2006. Carly started working at Orchard Hills Veterinary Hospital in 2010 and left for maternity leave in 2011. After 5 years as a stay at home mum, Carly is very excited to be back working with the team. Carly has 3 fur babies, Jessie a 13 year old German Shepherd, Hemi a 7 year old BullTerrier and Dixie a 1 year old Swiss Shepherd. In her spare time, Carly loves spending time with her family, going to the beach, going to concerts and walking her fur babies.

Sophie Mead Sophie has been completing her TAFE work experience with us for her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing since June 2016, and joined our team in October 2016 as a Kennel Hand. As well as studying to become a Veterinary Nurse, Sophie is currently completing her High School Certificate, in the hopes to be accepted to study Veterinary Science in the coming years at university. Sophie has owned a variety of pets throughout her life but has always had a particular fondness for the cats in the family. At the moment, Sophie has 2 dogs (Teddy and Trixie), as well as her 3 very spoiled cats (Angus, Casper and Tallulah). Orchard Hills has become a second home to Sophie, and she loves being able to see the smiling faces of colleagues, clients, and patients alike.

Chelsea Burcher Chelsea is currently completing her Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing at Richmond TAFE. She started her work placement at Orchard Hills Veterinary Hospital in January 2017 and joined our team in August 2017 as a Kennel Hand. Chelsea has always wanted to work with animals since a young age and has one dog, Meg an 8 year old Jack Russell Terrier. Chelsea loves working at Orchard Hills Veterinary Hospital and being part of the team. She is excited to see what the future holds. Please feel free to pop in anytime and meet the team at Orchard Hills Veterinary Hospital. Call 4736 2027 to make an appointment. Check us out on Facebook and online at www.orchardhillsvet.com.au.

Latest @ Luddenham by Wayne Willmington Sad news with the passing of Dolly Cuthell on the 9th of September. Dolly was Luddenham’s Longest Living Resident. Dolly was born in the Family home in Luddenham on the 30th August 1920 and lived in Luddenham ever since (97 Years). Dolly Cuthell (Nee Roots) married Jack Cuthell on the 27th June 1941 and moved into the Family home in 1945 and they had 3 children Hilton, Kathy and Kel. I interviewed Dolly in 2013 here are a couple of her comments, she said, “I love living in Luddenham, the people are so friendly and I use to know everyone”, she also said “I have great memories of my days at Luddenham school”. Dolly also loved attending the Luddenham Show, she said “it is one of the highlights of the year”, when asked if she still likes living in Luddenham she said “OH Yes...but I don’t know everyone anymore”. She was very disappointed at the time that she had to hand in her driving licence. During the Luddenham Bicentenary in 2013 Dolly unveiled the plaque that is situated between the Hall & Church. Work is progressing well at Luddenham Raceway with their new Motorsport Park, it is coming along well and it won’t be long and we will bikes and cars as well as the go-carts. I recently represented Luddenham at the Forum Of Western Sydney Airport, this is a great group and I am sure it will make a huge difference, especially when it comes to communicating with the community. As part of the meeting, the members visited Sydney Airport for a tour including the Air Traffic Control tower. As part of my role I will be passing on information to the local community as well as taking concerns back to FOWSA. Planning has now started on the 2018 Luddenham Show to be held on Saturday the 17th and Sunday 18th of February, if you would like to see something different at next year’s show

please send your thoughts to secretary@luddenhamshow.com. au The Luddenham Progress Association is looking at forming a sub-committee to help the local businesses that will be affected with the developments around town including the new Northern Road, more details to follow soon. If you have an opinion on what Luddenham of the future should be like please email your thoughts or views to willmingtons@bigpond.com we all need to work together to get the best results for the new Luddenham.

Emergency Services

Here we are at the tail end of the year, with less than 90 days until Christmas (yes! I said it).... we start to see plenty of local and wonderful festivities being held. This month we cover off all the important topics; from distinct beauty, art trails to Damfest; the ongoing success of local newspapers and children taking responsibility for their own actions. I am thoroughly enjoying our newest column 'Looking Back with Lisa' (page 15) as we take a walk down memory lane each month; this month we explore the history behind one of our (past) pinnacle landmarks. Take a read, you might just learn something new about your very own backyard! Everything is either an opportunity to grow, or an obstacle to keep you from growing. The best part is, you get to choose! (Dr. Wayne Dyer) Enjoy your Community News.
