Hiii mantas !!

Summer is almost drawing to an end. I hope everyone has been keeping busy ! Personally, I've been quite busy with trips and plans, so it's been nice to relax every once in a while. Remember to take care of yourselves !

There are even more things to look forward to in these upcoming months !! Hopefully, with the situation getting better, we'll be able to all meet in person and hold service events as normal !! I'm so excited for what's to come C: In this issue, we're featuring an article written by one of our Key Club members ! Each issue will include the works of your fellow mantas, in the name of uplifting eachother's talents and voices.

What's Poppin Manta Rays!

Summer has certainly gone by so fast! School is just around the corner, and everyone is either dreading it or excited to go back.

This upcoming school year will be different from last, similar to this Key Club term. These next few months are going to be busy, but I am looking forward to all the excitement!

Club rush is finally in person again! Start preparing your booths by creating eye-catching decorations, thinking up popular foods to give out, and refreshing and reviewing your Key Club knowledge.

Invite your friends to join the club, then ask them to ask their friends to join. Recruit as many members as you can. Let's grow our Division fifteen East manta ray family!

Thank you to all the wonderful officers who attended Studi-OTC Ghibli! Myself and my CP's hope you learned a lot and are now more aware of what Key Club is all about. I am also excited to see you all at upcoming in person events. The Region team and I have planned quite a lot of fun events for you to attend, and I do hope I see you attend.

Continue to keep up the awesome work, and let's work to achieve our term goals! Just keep swimming mantas!

Our fundraiser this month was our Kung Fu Tea fundraiser. On Tuesday, June 29th, members of MLK Key Club went to Kung Fu Tea in Riverside to support Key Club. The purpose of this fundraiser was to raise money for the Pediatric Trauma Program. With the help of those who attended the fundraiser, MLK Key Club was able to raise about $40 to help those affected by Pediatric Trauma.

This fundraising event is the product of the planning and preparation beforehand by the MLK officer board.

Service Project Suggestion Forum Do you have ideas for community service that you’d really like this division to do??

Division 15 East would like to introduce our Service Project Suggestion form‼️ Members can now suggest any and all ideas they have for service projects through a google form! Sticker Fundraiser July Joint DCM

In light of the recent Officer Training, we have new ghibli themed stickers available for purchase !! All proceeds will be going to the Pediatric Trauma Program. Be sure to reserve yours starting today & the link is located on the flyer!

Contest Guidelines

Division 15 East, and Division 15 South held a Joint DCM on July 18th. The theme was “Escaping the Jungle” It was filled with many exciting tasks and challenges to escape the jungle ! Activities included kareoke, questions, and more.

Significant changes have been made throughout all of the guidelines. BEE sure to start early and plan out what contests you and your club should apply for. We hope to recognize you at DCON 2022 bees!

hiii! my name is pia & i’m proud to serve you all as one of your executive assistants! i also serve my home club (MLK) as their treasurer. i’m a rising junior & am involved with my school’s asb, serving as the class of 2023’s co-vice president, this upcoming school year. i additionally play on the varsity tennis team! a little about me: my passion lies in public service, a huge reason why i joined key club. it’s also guided me to join clubs like model un & mock trial, as i hope to be a politician in the future! i’m extremely excited to see this term through & serve YOU! <3

How did Key Club Become Special to you?

my passion lies with public service & helping others. key club has allowed me to learn so much about servant leadership and the value of kindness. that as leaders, we serve others, not the other way around. key club has given me so much to reflect on and has inspired me as i’ve seen so many students dedicate their own time to serving others and bettering their community. it has granted me the opportunity to serve my community & world, while making amazing friends & unforgettable memories along the way!

what was your “key club moment?”

the region 13 zom-bee apocalypse awake-a-thon rap battle! i’ll be honest, i wasn’t that active with key club my freshman year. it was really my sophomore year where i started attending events & attended the region 13 zom-bee apocalypse awake-a-thon. later on that night, we were sent into a humans vs. zom-bees rap battle & it was then where i spit BARS at 2am, (trust me they were fire ;D). i got so much love & hype from everyone in the chat, as did everyone else who performed! it was definitely my key club moment as it reminded me of what a great, supportive, & loving community i was a part of!

Riverside

(Through Experience by: Ainsley Andersen Notre Dame Key Club

Like many of you reading this, I was raised in Riverside, California, so that means I’ve gotten the opportunity to explore and check out a lot of the cool places that I’d genuinely recommend others check out.

Firstly is Mt. Rubidoux, a classic, something that you’ve all probably heard about. I had the opportunity to grow up basically across the street from it so I can say it has to be one of my favorite places. Cross Country has to suffer through it so they can get used to dirt terrains, but they rest of us that didn’t choose the devils sport may actually enjoy a nice little hike up it. Something I love most about it is its view in the mornings; the landscape that can be seen from the top of the mountain as sun rises above the horizon is breathtaking. Take it from the person that hates waking up early and frankly doesn’t like sunrises all that much, the top of Mt. Rubidoux makes it worth it.

Next is the Mission Inn; another place I had the opportunity to grow up by, I can say for certain it is genuinely a nice place to go. Countless Saturday mornings my family would go over to check out the farmers market by the convention center and then have breakfast at Simple Simons afterward. There was a small book shop tucked away in a corner by the farmers market that I would nearly beg my mom to go into when we passed it. I’m sure you’ve all heard of Casey’s Cupcakes and how good those are, and if you go across the way you’ll find a nice antique shop filled with random treasures.

When it turns into winter the Mission Inn typically goes all out with holiday decorations, making a spectacle of it with Festival of Lights where they turn on the power to all the lights and sell seasonal treats for you to enjoy while walking around the area.

Thirdly, further along the way in Riverside is the Plaza, where you’ll constantly find teenagers wandering about typically looking for something to do. The Plaza is a nice place to go hang out a bit with many eating options as well as a movie theatre for any time there’s something good to watch. I can personally say that the California Pizza Kitchen there has been put to good use by my friends and I as we go there often enough just to order nearly the same thing every single time. Around that area is also a newly built Kung Fu Tea and The Loop which have really good boba and churros, both of which are definitely places that I’d recommend going to.

Lastly, the orange groves. Riverside was a place literally built upon orange groves and some of the groves still stand now. The place they grow is typically a photo spot, but considering how pretty the place is, it honestly can’t be helped much. The smell of oranges fills up the air in the area, making it something pleasant to run or walk by. In general it’s a nice place to walk through, and throughout the years, they’ve managed to stay in a refreshing state that the people genuinely love.

In all the years I’ve spent in this city, it’s always a place I can come back to and call home. So many thing have improved over the years and there’s still more to come in the years following.

This city has always had a homely feel to it with nice places that you can hang out or experience. I’ve never minded the fact that I grew up here and I’m happy I got to experience how this city functions.
