LTG UPDATE Hello wonderful people!

I hope that this newsletter finds you all doing great and making the most of the beginning of a beautiful new year! I know it's a stressful time for many of our seniors, so my thoughts are with all of you as we make some really important decisions - I'm in the same boat! As the end of this service year approaches, I have some exciting news Ava Linder from Holland High School has been elected Lieutenant Governor for the 2021-22 service year! Check out page 6 of this newsletter to learn a little more about her. Thank you so much to everyone who made our CharityMiles fundraiser such a success!! We were able to raise over $225 for the charity Soles4Souls over the past two months, which is an amazing accomplishment. Fantastic work, everyone! Again, make sure to give us your feedback and ideas (using this form). so that our NYDKC Strategic Plan for the next five years can be as beneficial to all our members and clubs as possible. Although the official deadline for membership dues has already passed, I want to encourage all of our clubs to continue submitting them for any remaining members, or for you entire club as soon as possible! Pay your dues here. As always, I hope you are all staying healthy and taking care of yourselves, and that you have a fantastic month. Reach out to me with any questions or anything you need, I'm always here to help! Yours in service, Kasia Kalinski

February Divisional recap

We were able to meet as a division on Sunday, February 7 to hold LTG elections, and to discuss a number of events. First off, make sure to check out the Awards Booklet that describes all of the individual and club awards you can apply for! This includes recognition of outstanding members and advisors, creative contests, as well as a number of scholarships for our high school seniors, so make sure to apply before the March 19th deadline! We got some great updates from all of our club presidents, and also concluded our CharityMiles fundraiser for Soles4Souls - thank you to everyone who helped us raise over $225 over the past couple of months! We discussed dues, and I encouraged all clubs to submit any outstanding paperwork (especially MRFs) in order to be considered for the Completed Paperwork Award at LTC 2021. Thank you so much to everyone who took the time to attend, it was wonderful being able to meet you all!

SERVICE SPOTLIGHT East

Aurora East

High

Aurora,

School NY

This past month our Key Club at East Aurora was lucky enough to be able to partner with Vanessa Frost, owner of Musejar, to create cards for the local nursing home, Absolut Care. Residents at this and many other nursing homes have had to stay in quarantine, without seeing any family members since almost the start of the pandemic for obvious health related reasons, making it a very difficult past few months for them. With this in mind, as a club, we wanted to find a way to safely put a smile on the faces of the nursing home residents and bring some joy into their lives. Similar to the hearts being put up around East Aurora which spread the message of unity and strength, we decided on making heart cards with special and uplighting sayings written on each of them. We had about 20 of our members come and create these cards, eventually allowing us to end up with over 230 cards for every single resident at the nursing home. It truly was a special event that all of our members enjoyed participating in, and we hope as a club that these cards do bring joy and happiness into the lives of the nursing home residents. Bridget Zagrobelny Vice President, East Aurora Key Club

GOVERNOR'S PROJECT Canines

for

Disabled

Kids

Each year, our District Governor selects a charity to consolidate our fundraising efforts as a district community. Canines for disabled kids provides scholarships for kids who need guide dogs, counseling for families who are considering a service dog, and education to schools and businesses worldwide. In doing so, CDK gives children and their families a sense of independence, and advocates for individuals with service animals.

DISTRICT PROJECT Project

Hope

Project HOPE strives to provide medical training in order to build a strong and resilient global community of health care workers. Its volunteers work to create long-term solutions rather than quick fixes in the areas of natural disasters, infectious diseases, maternal & child health, and health policy.

You can support this charity by raising $1,000 for a Trauma Kit, a child-sized ambulance equipment kit which is compiled to meet most on-scene emergency needs of children. The kits are donated to fire departments and ambulance services under the auspices of the local Kiwanis clubs in each community.
