LTG UPDATE Happy New Year!! We've made it to 2021! With a quarter of the service year left ahead of us, we've already met 60% of our service hour goal, and 61.5% of our fundraising goal - this is all thanks to your hard work and dedication, and I'm so proud of everyone who has stepped forward to serve in this difficult year. The end of this service year also brings with it an opportunity - our division needs a new Lieutenant Governor for next year! If you or any current freshman, sophomore or junior in your club want to step up your commitment to Key Club, then this position might be for you! You'll make lasting friendships with high schoolers from across the state, be able to organize service that's meaningful to you on a regional level, and gain a ton of leadership experience! To nominate another member, fill out this form by the end of January, so that we can hold elections at our February divisional meeting! If you have any questions about this, please reach out to me - I'm more than happy to explain the responsibilities of the position or give advice! I want to give a quick shoutout to Holland Key Club, who has been super diligent with Monthly Report Forms this year, as well as service projects! I'm so proud of you, thanks for all your hard work! Remember, the MRF for this month will be due on February 10th. Again, make sure to give us your feedback and ideas (using this form). so that our NYDKC Strategic Plan for the next five years can be as beneficial to all our members and clubs as possible. This is the last reminder that the final dues deadline is February 1st! If you need any help submitting dues, reach out to me ASAP. Thank you so much for reading through this newsletter, and I can't wait to hear from all of you. Have a wonderful month, and make the most of the beautiful winter weather! Yours in service, Kasia Kalinski

DIVISION FUNDRAISER

Soles4Souls Soles4Souls is a non-profit organization that keeps used shoes from going to waste, while giving children the opportunity to go to school, and providing jobs to break the cycle of poverty. This month, join our CharityMiles group to raise money for Soles4Souls by running, walking or biking - every dollar pays for a new pair of shoes! The timeline of the fundraiser has been extended until January 31st, to give more members the chance to join - and the individual who covers the most distance will win a $15 Amazon gift card, so make sure to get as many members involved as possible! To start, download the CharityMiles app, look up 'D25 December Fundraiser' and join the team, then make sure to track all your runs and walks with the app! Good luck!

If your club has held any fundraisers, make sure to submit articles for the Empire Key here!

GOVERNOR'S PROJECT Canines

for

Disabled

Kids

Each year, our District Governor selects a charity to consolidate our fundraising efforts as a district community. Canines for disabled kids provides scholarships for kids who need guide dogs, counseling for families who are considering a service dog, and education to schools and businesses worldwide. In doing so, CDK gives children and their families a sense of independence, and advocates for individuals with service animals.

DISTRICT PROJECT Project

Hope

Project HOPE strives to provide medical training in order to build a strong and resilient global community of health care workers. Its volunteers work to create long-term solutions rather than quick fixes in the areas of natural disasters, infectious diseases, maternal & child health, and health policy.

The Kiwanis Pediatric Trauma Center is a clinic located in Long Island, New York that is dedicated to serving unique care for children in extreme situations (e.g. trauma injuries). It also serves a number of other functions, such as outreach to parents and educational programs. You can support this charity by raising $1,000 for a Trauma Kit, a child-sized ambulance equipment kit which is compiled to meet most on-scene emergency needs of children. The kits are donated to fire departments and ambulance services under the auspices of the local Kiwanis clubs in each community.
