The Daily Devil b o o ~

(Letter From Your)

What's Poppin', Blue Devils? This month marks the halfway point of the 20212022 term! Look how far we've come serving our homes, schools, and communities. Keep up the great work, devils! A huge event that's coming up this month is Fall Rally North, a giant fundraiser at Six Flags (Pssst. You don't need to do anything but attend and cheer your heart out)! This event holds a special place in my heart since it was my first big Key Club event. It would mean a lot to me and the rest of the division if you attended! I promise you won't regret attending :). With all of this being said, be sure to manage your time properly so you can balance Key Club, school, and your personal life. I hope to see you at the events we have for the rest of this month!

Serving with LOVE, Joyce Tong Division 26 South Lt. Governor d26s.ltg@cnhkeyclub.org

Hey Blue Devils! Can you believe it's already October? That means it's time for FRN!! Who's excited? Personally, I've been looking forward to this event since last September when I first joined Key Club LOL. I hope to see each and every one of you there!! Anyways, how has school been for everyone? It's just the start of the school year, and it's already been hectic for me :( I'm probably just not used to real high school, that's all! I've been spoiled by online school HAHA Also, I've been feeling bored lately -_- I ran out of good songs to listen to while I do work :(( so, if anyone has any song recommendations, please send them to me LOL (y'all know where to find me hehe) I need more songs in my infinity playlist ;))

CLUB RECAPS acalanes*

Completing all of our forms and requirements to establish ourselves as an Acalanes club and be certified next month.

amador valley

This month may look empty, but the board was focused on recruiting members for this upcoming school year. At our club fair we were successful in getting lots of sign ups and interest in the club. We planned on starting meetings the first week of school, however we are unable to begin until after 9/9 because we must meet with leadership to authorized to begin. We have planned our first meeting and some after as our goal is member retention and to keep people interested!

One thing we have been doing well is communication. We always are on the same page with one another and understand the different events or any activities that either the division or the home club has planned.

The officers have been communicating well with each other this month, in preparation for future projects.

CLUB RECAPS| 7

This month, we kept the AMR updated. As club rush approaches, we've been getting our preparations ready. Last sunday we met up and created more spirit sticks to make our club more attractive during club rush. I'd like to give a shoutout to Eric Kang, Matthew Ayabe, and Aidan Tatlonghari for attending all the division events this month. We also held a club event where we volunteered at a food bank. We look forward to welcoming the new members and we will ensure a smooth transition with the addition of new members.

dublin

This month was pretty slow compared to others because school just started for many off the officers and members and planning events was a bit of a time constraint when it came to this month. Still, we were able to do our monthly week long service event that everyone loved and this was also one of the last online events we would do for service, especially since school opened ip for many of us. That being said, I am glad we were still able to get a lot of service in and bonding and I am very proud of us this month! We had to pause the Member of the Month due to service proect restrictions our school had told us about but if we had to choose one out of the many, I think we would say Joshua Choi as he has been with us for a LONG time and is a great person to have during service events!! We look forward to the next month!

Monte Vista Key Club hosted a board meeting this month as well as a club meeting with high member attendance! Our members continued to attend all Division events. Similar to last month, most of our service hours from this month came from one of our ongoing projects: Pause For. The MVKC board also introduced our new club merchandise ideas at our club meeting that was held this past week. Currently, we are organizing an interkey with the newly chartered Athenian Key Club and preparing for Club Fair!

OCTOBER

Do you plan on going to FRN (Fall Rally North)? If so, what is something you look forward to do/accomplish there? I do plan to go to FRN this year. This is the first year of me being in KEY Club and also being the spirit team, who’s job is to memorize and recite cheers in order for KEY Club to win the Spirit Stick. This means a big deal to the spirit team, Dublin key Club and myself especially since this is my first year of doing KEY Club in person and am finally able to go to events like these. Also, hanging out in Six Flags is AWESOME especially with all of our friends so I couldn’t be more excited to go! -Sanjana Vidhyacharan, Dublin

YESSSSSURRRRRR! At first, I walked into key club as a freshmen with a mindset of thinking that Key Club is just a every day community service club. However, when I participated in FRN during my sophomore year, my whole view on Key Club changed. I saw that this club provided a home for so many passionate people from around the world who wanted to make a world a better place. During the rally, there was so much good energy, key club spirit, and cheers that filled up the whole amusement park that no other event can replace. I can't wait to go back my senior year to experience that feeling one more time before I graduate. And of course, who doesn't love roller coasters and mini games? It's been a good 2 years since I went to one and I look forward to spending the day and having fun with other d26s and other division key clubbers!! :) -Carter Soe, California

YEAH I WANT TO GO!!! It sounds so fun and six flags is good so at six flags I hope to hang out with my friends who I've recruited into keyclub!! -Colleen Gu, Dougherty Valley

14 | KIWANIS LABOR DAY PARADE ARTICLES & VISUALS BY D26S LTG JOYCE TONG

On Saturday, September 4th, D26S Key Clubbers made their way to Downtown Danville for the San Ramon Valley Kiwanis Labor Day Parade. At the 6 AM shift, the streets were chilly, but that didn't stop us from volunteering. My group was assigned to distribute and pick up the garbage bins located at every intersection. Eric, Aidan, and I stood in the back of the moving truck and wheeled the bins in and out.

After the parade, my group felt much closer! We went on a hike up Las Trampas and enjoyed the view. Though the view was breathtaking, nothing was prettier than them ;).

CLUB FAIR See what the D26S clubs are doing for recruitment!

Emily Cooper, California

This month, the Cal High Key Club officers worked hard to prepare for the Club Fair. We got together at some lunches to make posters, and we're making sure that we'll be one, if not the most, spirited club at the fair. We're even working on a spirit stick, and are planning to get together next week to finish up on everything.

NOT JUST A SERVICE CLUB

Something that distinguishes Key Club from other volunteering clubs is that we are not ust a service club! We host fun socials, and our volunteering events are not workintensive; anyone can easily make new friends with students from other high schools in our area! Bring friends to Key Club events, and they’ll experience first-hand how unique we are.

SOCIAL MEDIA

In our age of technology, everyone has instant access to social media like Instagram, where we always post about our events. Members can do things as simple as reposting and sharing instagram posts made by the division and their school club to reach a ton of people.

3

2

TEACH AT THE BEGINNING

With all of our acronyms, understanding Key Club lingo can feel impossible for new members, and we all understand that feeling. Help other members by summarizing what events are and what happens during them. There are tons of small details that club officers don’t review during meetings that members need to know.

SERVICE PROJECTS Food Banks require early registration for large groups but only one adult is required for a party of 8 so this can be easily organized. A google sheet sign-up with limited capacity would be a great way to do sign-ups.

UNICEF has a lot of different research/report articles on their website (www.unicef.org/sdgs) that would be educational to read through during a club event. Finding a way to help/get involved is the next step.

Reaching out to senior centers to plan social/bonding events. This could be arts/crafts, games (like bingo), or other fun events. This would require early planning, and have all members have tested negative for COVID-19.

D26S Service Projects Coordinator Anna Friess | d26s.cnhkc.ser@gmail.com

SOSP | 29

CEF

FUNDRAISERS Clubs can create bingo sheets for the officers and members pay for the officers to do dares depending on how severe they are. Whoever pays the most for the dares can earn Key Club merch. Each dare that's paid for will also review a fun fact about UNICEF.

Charging $1-2 for each gram, Key Clubbers can earn service hours by creating a card with a description of UNICEF with a piece of candy inside and selling the grams.

tThe party can include a scavenger hunt, games (ideas: apple bobbing, Mafia, Telephone), a Halloween-themed movie, etc. Officers can also prepare treats and bring them to the event under COVID guidelines. It's encouraged to do this with another club to maximize attendees!
