Foothills Park & Recreation District invites you to our brand new clubhouse at Foothills Golf Course that lifts the public golfing experience to new heights. The new clubhouse has been well received after opening in April 2024 and has become a great gathering spot, not just for golfers, but for the entire community! Featuring clean and sleek lines with an abundance of warm woods, the lounge, restaurant and event spaces accommodate everything from dinner out with friends to large scale golf tournament banquets to wedding receptions and other celebrations.

The proshop features close to 180-degree views of the golf course property and the Rocky Mountain foothills, as well as more space for golf merchandise. Additionally, Foothills Golf Course Clubhouse is the only public golf course in Colorado with a state-of-the-art Golfzon golf simulator, providing a cutting-edge virtual golf experience.

Showcasing three separate courses, containing 36 total holes and a driving range with expansive mountain views, Foothills Golf Course is one of the Denver Metro Area’s most popular public courses. While the course attracts golfers from across the state, many of our regulars feel a sense of ownership of this public course. With this in mind, our vision was to elevate the expected quality of a public clubhouse facility, while still maintaining a “golf first” experience.

The original clubhouse, built in 1974, was no longer serving the growing needs of golfers and the community. The new design incorporated an expanded restaurant and terrace with

an indoor-outdoor bar that is perfect for the Colorado lifestyle, as well as a much larger event space. It also includes indoor storage space for our fleet of golf carts.

The new clubhouse design maintains the original elevated upper level, which allows for sweeping views of the Front Range to the west, lifting the entire main level above the 18th hole. Inside, the facility feels warm and cozy with a modernday ski lodge vibe. A noteworthy upgrade from the previous facility’s design is the inclusion of expanded lounges for socialization and dining with direct bar access. With an extended footprint, the new expansive west-facing deck treats the earth outside the building like an amphitheater, allowing for more indoor-outdoor activities and capacity for larger group events. For those beautiful Colorado evenings, two stunning outdoor firepits create a cozy and inviting space for relaxation.

The building is designed to last, with the incorporation of several sustainable features, including a mass timber structure, which is left exposed to showcase eye-catching glulam columns, beams and roof decking throughout the building. A highly insulated metal rainscreen, glazing that provides ample daylight throughout the space and strategically placed shading devices along the western exposure of the building help keep the building cool on our hot summer days.

We look forward to providing everyone a memorable golf experience at Foothills Golf Course! Plan ahead to maximize your visit:

• Tee times are highly encouraged for all three courses and are open to the public year-round, weather allowing. To book a tee time, schedule a tournament or to contact the proshop, visit foothillsgolf.org or call 303-409-2400.

• The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and serves as the event venue for small to large gatherings, accommodating up to 400 guests. Visit foothillsrestaurant.co

How Could There Be 60 Putters in One Club?

Tour players have a distinct advantage over recreational golfers. They rely heavily on having the proper equipment fit to them by club technicians until each club is perfectly adjusted to their specific swing and putting stroke. Ensuring that the club you use most during a round is perfectly fit to your game makes sense. Unfortunately, most golfers don’t have access to a tour van or the budget to purchase 15 variations of the same putter model. That’s where Astral Putters, a Denver-

based golf company comes in.

Astral Putters has spent the last three years prototyping and constructing what might be the most adjustable putter the golf market has ever seen. Their revolutionary rotating hosel system allows golfers to adjust their putter into 60 different configurations.

Each of these configurations creates unique combinations of shaft offset, toe hang, and lie angle. This groundbreaking design gives golfers the ability to replicate the performance characteristics of some of golf’s most popular putters.

“When I first met the Astral team, I was skeptical that this club would perform on the course as well as it did on paper. But once I got my hands on the Astral Putter, it was clear that the team had spared no expense on materials, build quality, and overall design. Even without its revolutionary adjustability, I would have enjoyed playing with these putters. The customizability was simply the cherry on top.”

Astral offers three distinct body styles to cater to various putting preferences: blade, mid-mallet, and full-mallet. For golfers who prefer a classic, minimalistic design, the blade offers clean lines and a traditional feel. The mid-mallet is ideal for those seeking a bal-

ance of forgiveness and control, while the full-mallet provides maximum stability for players who need help squaring the face at impact. Additionally, Astral putters come with interchangeable face inserts made from premium materials, including brass, copper, and Damascus steel. These materials not only provide aesthetic appeal but also allow players to fine-tune the feel and sound of their putter.

Astral is a company founded on the principle that every golfer’s stroke is unique. “We feel strongly that the odds of finding a perfectly fitting putter off the rack at your local golf retailer are minimal,” founder Blake Callaway explained. “There truly is no onesize-fits-all approach to putting, and your putter should reflect that.” As Callaway emphasized, “The true value of our putters lies somewhere in between the popular models. We give golfers the ability to slightly adjust their club, allowing it to close sooner or stay open longer during their unique putting stroke. Adjust rather than adapt.”

The fitting process for an Astral putter is simple yet essential to maximizing the benefits of their adjustable technology. Astral offers fittings locally in Denver or virtually for customers across the globe. The process begins with determining the most ideal shaft

length and lie angle based on how you naturally address the ball. “A natural and comfortable putting stance not only boosts confidence but also encourages golfers to spend more time practicing their short game,” Callaway said. Once the basics are established, the Astral team runs golfers through a series of configurations to identify their miss tendencies. Adjustments can be made to decrease or increase toe hang and shaft offset on the putter. Thus, slowing or speeding up the rate in which the face closes during the putting stroke. This leads to a square face at impact and a higher percentage of balls rolled on the target line.

By prioritizing adjustability and customization, they’ve created a putter that caters to every golfer’s unique needs. And with three body styles and multiple face insert options, Astral putters offer a level of versatility that’s unmatched. “We want to empower golfers to take control of their game,” Callaway said. “Our goal is to give players the tools they need to make putting their strength, not a weakness.” Astral’s rotating hosel system offers an affordable and practical Jerry Walters teaches putting with the Trent Wearner Golf Academy and is a Master Putter Fitter. Golf Course Living by the Numbers

As a golfer, have you ever wondered what it would be like to live on a golf course and have better access to the game you love? I know plenty of people who have. As a Colorado native, lifelong golfer, and long-time Colorado-based Realtor who has combined my two passions of golf and helping people find their dream homes, I specialize in helping people find their very own golf course property. Let's walk through Golf Course Living by the Numbers.

To start, according to the Colorado Golf Association and affirmed in DIVOT Magazine, Colorado has 240 golf courses, including public, private, and resort courses. The courses are located in a variety of settings, including the plains, canyons, red rocks, and mountains. Some of the most notable private golf courses in the Denver metro area include Cherry Hills Country Club, Castle Pines Golf Club, Cherry Creek Country Club, and Red Rocks Country Club. The region and whole state are also blessed with many wonderful public courses for incredible experiences. Of all the courses throughout the Centennial

nities.

While creating this article, it is estimated that there are about 1,000 golf course properties for sale which include condos, townhomes, and single-family homes. Many people who buy golf course homes have the property as their second home which means if you live in Denver but want to frequent Breckenridge, Vail, or Steamboat Springs, buying a golf course home is a great excuse to do so.

The average price of a home in a golf

Book tee times here!

course community is about $600K, and the price can vary greatly based on the size of the home, features and condition, and the location on the course. This measures up to the statewide average price of a home, so if you think golf course living may be out of reach, think again! And while equity or rate of return on a golf course property investment can vary greatly, golf course properties can see anywhere from 15-30% higher property values than homes that neither sit on nor have views of a golf course. Aside from golf, some reasons

these homes could have higher property values are the access to community amenities, beautiful views, and well-manicured landscapes.

If you love golf, you’re definitely not alone in the Mile High City and along the Front Range. It is estimated that there are 487,000 golfers in Colorado according to the Colorado Golf Association. While many golfers would love to get to the course every day, most golfers play anywhere from 1-2 times a month to 3 or more times a week, and still others only make it out for special occasions. The average golf score for all golfers is somewhere between 94-100. How is your game?

In my experience, clients who have bought golf course properties love the location and the course’s beautiful views, access to their favorite game, and the social and financial perks of living in the community. If you’ve ever thought about living on a golf course, let’s take a look.

The custom club fitter currently has three studios in Colorado

Club Champion, the globe’s top custom golf club fitter and builder, continued its steady climb at the end of the second quarter. With two new stores opening recently, the company is continuing to bolster its identity as the industry leader.

After opening in Westbrook, ME (their first in the state) and in Durham, North Carolina, Club Champion is now in 43 states and has surpassed 130 studios worldwide. With plans to reach 140 studios by the end of 2024, Club Champion is well on its way to being in every state and every flourishing golf market in America.

Club Champion currently has three studios in the state of Colorado – Highlands Ranch, Westminster, and Colorado Springs – and plans to continue growing its footprint in the state.

“It’s hard to keep up and that’s a good thing,” said Nick Sherburne, the company’s founder and EVP of Operations. “Every week, it seems, we announce a new store or bring new fitters into the fold. It’s a testament to the sport’s ability to thrive in any environment.”

Since 2010, Club Champion has used components from over 65 brands, including names like Callaway, TaylorMade, Titleist, and many more to custom fit and build golf clubs for golfers all over the country and globe. The company delivers a Tour-level fitting that produces longer, more accurate shots with a nearly 100% satisfaction rate for golfers of any ability level.

Every domestic Club Champion studio features at least two indoor hitting bays with TrackMan launch monitors for analyzing performance, a SAM PuttLab system to find the perfect putter, and a build shop for repairing and assembling golf clubs by hand. The roughly 3,000 square foot spaces also include a demo matrix to display the head and shaft options that make up their 65,000 hittable combinations.

"It’s a gift and a challenge to be part of such rapid expansion,” said Cassandra Bausch, Director of Marketing at Club Champion. “It means we’re reaching new golfers all the time but it also means we have to stay on our toes and continue to innovate.”

Best Club Fitters twelve years running, Club Champion has a unique coupling system used to combine any head and shaft together, so golfers hit the precise combination they’ll use on the course. They also hand-build all their custom orders to the tightest tolerances in the industry using a single builder system — every order stays with the same builder from start to finish. No assembly lines or inconsistencies can be found as a part of the Club Champion build standards.

Dye Designs Group Selected to Update Colorado’s Flatirons Golf Course

Dye Designs Group (DDG) – proud contributor to the Dye family’s golf course architecture legacy for more than 30 years –has been selected to begin renovations at Colorado’s Flatirons Golf Course.

Owned and operated by the city of Boulder, Flatirons is a popular 18 hole, par-70 course located just east of the University of Colorado campus. DDG’s work will be led by Matt McGarey, the firm’s senior design associate. It will initially encompass a remodel of Hole 13, a 441-yard par 4 requiring modifications after the death of a large tree in the right 1/3 of the fairway.

McGarey worked closely with course general manager Tom Buzbee to devise several significant changes. They include the addition of two clover-shaped bunkers flanking the landing area approximately 200 and 270 yards from the middle tee box, and removal of three additional trees in the right rough. Fairway lines will also be altered on the pin-straight hole to give it a greater sense of movement and increase strategic interest.

Construction is scheduled to begin in January 2025 and be completed in March.

“The tree in the fairway heavily dictated strategy; without it, the hole no longer asked any questions of the player and allowed them to simply swing away without consequence,”

said McGarey, who earlier this year led instate renovation projects at The Club at Inverness south of Denver and Copper Creek at Copper Mountain ski resort. “I’m looking forward to getting on the excavator this winter and shaping the new bunkers so they’re ready for the 2025 season.”

“I’m very familiar with the high-quality work and creative thinking that Dye Designs Group brings to the table,” said Buzbee. “Matt is an extremely talented designer, shaper and project manager who’s going to help us further elevate the golf experience at Flatirons.”

was designed by Englishman Willie Tucker and opened in 1938. Like New York’s famed Bethpage State Park, it was a Works Progress Administration (WPA) project that helped put people to work during the Great Depression. Earlier this year, Flatirons opened a new clubhouse restaurant, the Ironwood Bar & Grille. Featuring American cuisine, Ironwood offers both sit-down and to-go service with an adjacent lawn area that can accommodate up to 175 guests for special events.
