Some of the things you’re worried about, you can’t see it yet, but God has already changed it. He’s already set the miracle into motion. He’s already spoken to the right people. He’s already lined up the healing. He’s already arranged the breakthrough. It’s just a matter of time before you walk into it. Stay in peace, and you’ll come into what God has already done. Don’t let people keep you from what God put in your heart. Always be respectful, but remember, you’re not going to have to give an account of what you did with your life to people. You’re going to stand before God. I would rather disappoint people than disappoint God. I would rather hurt a few feelings than miss my destiny. You may have some weeds in your life right now. We all do. Weeds of doubt, weeds of jealousy, weeds of ‘I don’t have what it takes.’ Don’t be alarmed by the weeds. Just don’t make the mistake of watering the weeds. Don’t give them any energy. Don’t let them take up space in your mind. What you quit watering is eventually going to go away. God will not allow things to happen that won’t somehow move you to your destiny. … Joel Osteen

Cruizin’ in the passin’ lane By: Jimbo April is finally here and cruising to car shows, cruise-ins, races and all the activities that we enjoy should be in dryer weather. At least I hope so. It seamed that for the last couple of months Mother Nature really put a dampener on everyone's activities no matter where you lived or what part of the country you lived. Hats off to the die-hards who supported those events that couldn't be cancelled and who counted on the people who showed up to help raise funds for their clubs charity work. April 5&6 will be the Coast Cruizers kick off for the Gulf Coast Auto Show. This year we will hold the show at Edgewater Mall on Hwy 90, Biloxi, MS. Funds generated from this show and our Cruise -ins help pay foe a referbished handicap van that the club will give away at the Christmas toy drive in December 2019. I got to go to the Southern Outlaw Gassers GBO9 March 16th. It was a cool day, mid 50’s, but Atmore Dragway was packed with ol’ skool gassers and pre ‘74 drag cars. Sugar Bug and "BUG"

Down on his luck a homeless man started attending our church. One Sunday he found a wallet with $700 in it. On the church bulletin board, he reads a notice saying that a wealthy congregant lost his wallet and is offering a $100 reward for it. He spots the owner and gives him the wallet. The rich man counts the money and says, "I see you already took your reward." The poor man answers, "What?" "This wallet had $800 in it when I lost it." They begin arguing, and eventually come before the minister. Both state their case. The rich man concludes by saying, "Father, I trust you believe ME." The minister says, "Of course," and the rich man smiles. The poor man is crushed. Then the minister hands the wallet to the poor man. "What are you doing?!" yells the rich man. The minister answers, "You are, of course, an honest man, and you say the wallet you lost had $800 in it. Therefore I'm sure it did. But if the man who found this wallet is a liar and a thief, he wouldn't have returned it at all. Which means that this wallet must belong to somebody else. If that man steps forward, he'll get the money. Until then, it belongs to the man who found it." "What about my money?" the rich man asks. "Well, we'll just have to wait until somebody finds a wallet with $800 in it..."

Spring is finally arriving again after the almost summer we had in February and the late winter we had in early March. Officially it is spring-cleaning time, that means it's time to get rid of some stuff that has been taking up space in the old carriage house. Besides the two trucks and an almost completed old Harley, it appears I have a pretty good collection of other stuff all over the place. I have a set of wheels from my old roadster. Lots of pieces still waiting installation on the Big Truck project, some bike parts and leftover parts and pieces from now forgotten reasons I brought them home in the first place. For those of us that were vaccinated with gear lube and race gas, we gather up what others would deem junk. Yes, we gearheads are the ultimate recyclers. We visit friends' garages and can't resist seeing what others have filling up their shops and aiding them in disposing of their clutter. We can't go to a swap meet and just walk around without buying something, even if its just a small bit perhaps a lug nut or just a shiny chrome gee-gaw or two. So, at times, I get frustrated by all the stuff that is just laying around, not being used, or long forgotten, and I find the need to just let it go. I may ask around and see if anyone needs some of this stuff or most of the time it just goes to the garbage hauler. At my old garage I had a rule that I tried to live by. If I had not touched an item in and around the shop in over a year, it was time to get rid of it. I have not, by all of the stuff I have acquired, been doing this at this new garage. Maybe its time to enforce that rule again. One solution to my space and storage dilemma would be to add on to my present shop, however that may only lead to the gathering of more stuff. When and if the Big Truck project gets closer to completion, I may just be able to gain some available room. When that truck was completely blown apart it consumed a vast amount of space in the garage, I barely had room in there for my old roadster. Working on it was a constant battle moving things all of the time to make space for what was to happen next. That was always such a waste of time and energy. And in regards to the Big Truck project, the exhaust plumbing is now 90% completed, a couple more hangers in a few more locations and then painting it with some high heat paint, (its raw steel not aluminized, or stainless) and reinstall and it will be finished. My next thing to tackle will be the doors, I am converting to one-piece glass, possibly power windows, and figure out the connecting of the outside and inside latches and handles. The outside door handles were long ago set up for the old Honda civic handles, which are flush to the doors. Wish me luck in this endeavor, I am quite sure I will end up with more scars on my hands and arms from this as well. I would like to wish you all a Blessed Easter Sunday. Lastly do not forget, the taxman wants his share by the 15th this month, unless you can put it off with an extension. And if you happen to be up this way stop in, I can give you a great deal on some valuable junk, I mean good parts and pieces for mere pennies on the dollar. Later from the Carriage House, Gizmo.

ONLY CAR ITEMS ALLOWED
By: Joyce Lachaussee Do you know how many people collect classic cars in the U.S.? According to Hagerty Group (which sells classic car insurance), they peg the number at roughly 5 million which 58% are owned by baby boomers, those born 1946-1964. Hagerty also indicated the classic car market has hit its peak in value and is on a steady decline as the younger generations attention is not into cars as we were. You certainly can't see a decline in the collecting of classic cars at the Lucedale Hardee's Breakfast Cruise As you can see from the photo a sample of some of those collectors at the March breakfast. Some 35 car collectors were at the March cruise in and brought their treasures for their own and others enjoyment. They sure get a load of attention from spectators. It may be true the value of these cars has dropped but to the collectors, they are worth every penny and are lovingly cared for. One of these is this '57 Ford Fairlane owned by Woodrow Dickinson (better known as Bubba) from north of Citronelle, Al. This car sports a 460 Cobra and is automatic but has no cold air. Woodrow bought this car in Mobile where it had been stored in a climate controlled building for the past 15 years. He also had a '55 Crown Vic. And yes he is a Ford man! Woodrow graduated in 1965 from High School and joined the Merchant Marines and afterwards went into the Army where he served in Europe, Panama, and Korea. Upon discharge from the Army, Woodrow went to work for a chemical plant and retired after 40 years. Thank you for bringing this ionic Ford and a BIG thank you for your service to our country.
This '51 Chevy Truck is owned by Kenny Novak from Hurley. He's had this truck for 5 years and purchased it in Pigeon Forge. Kenny doesn't do body work but is the mechanic on all his vehicles. In the past, he has owned a '99 Corvette and a '70 Chevelle. Kenny retired from Chevron after 28 years. Good to see you and your truck.
While this car doesn't fit into the classic category, it certainly will be in the future. This 2008 Mustang is set up with a Stage 3 Raush charger, aluminum headers, 4 stage tuner, Borla exhaust system8:1 compression, Celine suspension AND it sounds BAAAAD! No other car has that Mustang sound. This car is owned by Ricky Howell of Lucedale. Welcome and come again. Everyone is welcome to the Cruise in every 2nd Friday of the month at Lucedale Hardee's Breakfast Cruise In. Come join us. "What's the most tired part of your car? - The exhaust pipe! What happens to a frogs car when it breaks down? It gets toad away. "Do what is right, not what is easy nor what is popular."

Some Shoes Are Difficult To Fill Leroi “Tex” Smith started publishing companies, wrote articles for the top car magazines of the day, built award winning cars, and travelled around the world searching for the next trends of the automotive industry. He was a trend setter himself. Smith died June 11, 2015, having left his fingerprints all over the hot rod world. He was 81. A lot of us miss him, his skills, and his infectious smile. I cannot do justice to the brilliance of this man in this brief article. Most of you know him and have your own impressions of him anyway. It is with that in mind that I will bring out some highlights of his life. You can fill in the blank areas with your memories and thoughts. Clarence LeRoi Ugama was born in Oklahoma in 1934, to Esther Mae Welch. He was of Cherokee and Chocktaw heritage. His Grandfather and Great-Great Grandfather were principal Chiefs of the Eastern Band of Cherokee. Smith took his stepfather’s name and became “Tex” due to a second-hand jacket with “Tex” embroidered on it. He wore this as a young man. His stepfather was an auto body worker. This likely played a role in his future career. A stint in the Air Force in the 1950’s certainly helped inspire his love of speed. Smith was a supporter of the first Bonneville Salt Flats speed trials sanctioned by the Southern California Timing Association (SCTA). He was on Lee Wooley’s crew when he was running the Buick coupe in 1952. Also, in the 50’s, “Tex” raced a 1932 Ford coupe with a flathead engine which helped him to remain a fixture in land speed racing for years to come. LeRoi “Tex” Smith continued to develop his interest in specialty cars during the early years of those sports in Southern California. In this period, he worked closely with the legendary Wally Parks on the development of the National Hot Rod Association. Over the years “Tex” served as NHRA’s International Ambassador, European Director and National Field Director, working out of an office in Hollywood. He formulated and directed the activities of NHRA drag racing, created the International Car Club Association for NHRA, and developed programs related to driving sports cars in European races and rallies. “Tex” Smith found himself in a staff position at Hot Rod magazine before it became the bible of hot rodding. It was while working here that the magazine build of the XR-6 came to fruition. This hot rod was built on the pages of the magazine, then campaigned and won the America’s Most Beautiful Roadster (AMBR) award at the 1963 Grand National Roadster Show in Oakland, California. The XR-6 was the first contender to break out of the traditional roadster mold after the George Barris built Ala Kart as exemplified by the “Jetsons” fenders, hideaway headlamps, and the asymmetric styling theme. Many claim it started the next evolution in contemporary roadster builds. While still working at Hot Rod as a freelancer in the 60’s he helped Street Rodder magazine become a reality and contributed

to Rod & Custom as they struggled to revitalize their brand. The 1970’s came along and Smith helped to create the National Street Rod Association (NSRA) and the first Street Rod Nationals were held in Peoria, Illinois. This kept him busy for a while, but by the end of the decade he was looking for something different as a challenge, so he moved to Wisconsin in 1979 to become the editor of Old Cars Weekly. He had a successful tour of duty as editor and publisher there before relocating again to a place that was more befitting his nickname. He moved to Dallas as the Public Relations D i r e c t o r f or I nt e r st a t e B a t t e r y Company’s Great American Race. “Tex” retired in 1985 and relocated to Idaho to do some trout fishing in the Teton Valley. In 1987 “Tex” returned to the magazine world by starting his own publishing company, and this is where Hot Rod Mechanix magazine was born. LeRoi “Tex” Smith retired for the second time in 1999, following the death of his beloved wife Peggy. “Tex” remarried and from that point on split his time between homes in Idaho and Australia, with stopovers on Kauai, Hawaii. This is a brief overview of the life of LeRoi “Tex” Smith. This is a man who shaped an industry through the written word. He leaves a legacy that will likely go unmatched. Uncle Ezra always has a lot of things to say. Most of them aggravate me and a lot of them are too ornery to print. Here is one of his more lucid thoughts: Small minds discuss people, average minds discuss events, while great minds discuss ideas.

Mason Barfield Emerald Coast Cruizin, four days of car heaven for Terry Mason’s Hot Rod Show. It took me a week to recover! I arrived in Panama City Beach, FL on the World’s Most Beautiful Beaches on Tuesday afternoon and checked in to the Origin Condominiums, 13th floor overlooking the beach. It was
cool. It was cool and cool, temperature wise, but not a drop of rain, so it was awesome! Panama City Beach was perfect; you could not even tell there was any damage in that area, PCB got a tropical storm. Ten miles away in Panama City it was like Katrina, so sad. Rakes Parrish and Flip Flop Promotions works all year long, literally, on these two shows in PCB, plus the Georgia Mountain Moonshine Cruiz-In. All year long wide open to produce these shows and it shows! Wednesday morning we set up at Margaritaville for the arrival day Block Party. It was a fun time from 10 am -3 pm and soon as the show was over I had to move the Hot Rod Show trailer over to the car show site at Aaron Bessatt Park where it would stay for the next three days. I set up right next to the main stage.
Joe and Amanda Martin was there all three days and they brought with them Pappa from the show. Pappa had a blast, I think this was his first event with Joe and Amanda, he told me twice how much he enjoyed coming. Poppa was like a little kid in a candy store. I stole Mandy away from Joe for a few minutes, but I had to give her back. They are all so nice, real, talented and humble. They’ll be back for the fall show. Also got to meet and interview “RJ” from the Courtney Hansen, Troy Ladd TV show, “The Ride That Got Away” on the History Channel. He is pretty cool. Thursday I started playing music at 8am, kicked off the Hot Rod Show at 10 am and played until 12 noon when a good local band played for a couple of hours, then we finished out the day until 5 pm. 12

We announced a two hour Professional Wrestling show has been added to the November show. 2 pm on Saturday November 9. Ricky Morton of the Legendary Rock N Roll Express will take on The Barbarian from the WWE, he’ll be managed by Randy Rose of The Midnight Express. Also The Ragin Bull Mandy Fernadez, Jimmy The Boogie Woogie Man Valiant and many more will be on the show. A full two hour wrestling show added to the already exciting Fall Emerald Coast Cruizin. Even if you’re not a fan of wrestling, you will be entertained by this show, I promise, bring your lawn chair.
www.GulfCoastMotorSports.com
I got to spend a lot of time with Wrestler Randy Rose, interviewed him three times during the show promoting the fall matches. I invited him and his beautiful wife to visit me here on the Coast and he invited me to use his condo in Daytona Beach anytime. For a hated heel wrestler, he’s a pretty nice guy, three weeks from his second hip replacement, I still wouldn’t want to get on his bad side.
I also got to interview Sherman Williams, number 20, running back for the 1992 Alabama Crimson Tide National Championship team and then Sherman went on to win a Super Bowl with the Dallas Cowboys. Sherman got caught up in the bright lights, drugs and then prison. Sherman found God, turned his life around and is working now with troubled youth. He wrote a book to finance his youth program and is out on a book tour. The name of the book is Crimson Cowboy. Sherman gave me an autographed copy I am reading now. He looked good, like he could play tomorrow. Friday was huge, Country Music Day with three acts to interview and then bring on stage. I prepared the interviews with each star and frankly I was very impressed with all three. First was Sylvia, one of the most beautiful women that I have ever met, at 62 she did not look a day over 40, with very little makeup. Sylvia had about twenty Top 40 hits in the 1980’s, 9 albums and all kind of awards. Her trademark song is “Nobody” which was one of two number 1 songs, but “Nobody” crossed over to Number 15 on the Pop Charts. We also had a mutual friend, Ted White, that wanted so much to be at this show. Ted told me “you will love Sylvia, she is so sweet inside and out. Give her a hug for me!” My buddy Ted passed away just a few days before the show, he had been very sick. I asked Sylvia how well did she know Ted? Her head dropped and she asked me “Do you know?” I told her I did, but I wasn’t sure she knew, if she didn’t I wasn’t going to tell her until after she performed. Sylvia’s voice is like that of an angel, so beautiful and sweet still to this day. After the interview I got to bring her on stage. She sang all her hits. After the show she brought me a couple of her CD’s autographed. I’ll love that girl forever. The Hot Rod Show played until the changeover was completed, Ronnie McDowell dropped by the Hot Rod Show trailer for his interview. Ronnie is a showman, an entertainer and a great talker. The death of Elvis launched his career with the huge number 1 hit
“The King is Gone.” Ronnie was a big fan of Elvis since he was a small child, sounded a lot like Elvis, when he heard on the radio that Elvis had died, he wrote, recorded The King is Gone, it launched within a week and his career soared and continues to this day. “Older Women” was another number 1 hit and Ronnie had good Top 40 Country success. He put on a great show and was out all over the audience interacting with the crowd during his performance. After Ronnie McDowell the Hot Rod Show played the changeover and prepared for the next act John Schneider and his interview. John Schneider, Bo Duke of the Dukes of Hazzard, was the headliner. He is such a big star, he is so smooth and easy in every setting. Most people are not aware John had four number 1 country hits and many more Top 40 Country hits, plus over 80 TV and movies roles in his career. He is currently starring in The Haves and The Have Nots on the O Network. John wo wed the crowd and especially the women. Friday was a big day. Saturday is always a big day at Emerald Coast Cruizin. We played until noon. Terry Brock, Marty White and Friends took the stage at 12 noon. Terry Brock was a singer with the band Kansas and Louisiana Le Roux (New Orleans Lady). They put on a great rock show.

Old Mr. Boudreaux finally retired from farming in South Louisiana, but soon became very bored. This OCD* had "doctored" his cows over the years, so he decided to open a "clinic" and put an ad out that read: "Doc Boud's: Get Cured - $500. If I Can't Cure You, Get Back $1,000." He hired a young pretty "nurse" and worked 5 days a week. In town, a young transplanted Ole Miss lawyer was positive that this socalled "Doc" Boudreaux didn't know beans about medicine. Always interested in making money, he went to Dr. Boud's clinic to get himself an easy $1000. Young Lawyer: "Doc Boudreaux, I have lost all taste in my mouth. Can you please help me?" Doc Boud: "Nurse, please bring da medicine from box 22, an' put tree drops in da patient's mouth." Young Lawyer: "Aaagh !! This is gasoline !!" Doc Boud: "Congratulations !! You got you taste back. Dat will be $500." This annoyed Young Lawyer, so after a couple of days he returned to the clinic, figuring to recover his money. Young Lawyer: "I have lost my memory. I cannot remember anything." Doc Boud: "Nurse, please bring medicine from box 22 and put tree drops in da patient's mouth." Young Lawyer: "Oh no you don't. That's gasoline!" Doc Boud: "Congratulations! You got you memory back. Dat will be $500." Young Lawyer, having now lost $1000, left angrily. The next week he came back for a final try at recovering his cash. Young Lawyer: "My eyesight is failing and I can hardly see." Doc Boud: "Well, I don't have any medicine for dat me, so here's you $1000 back." Young Lawyer: "But this is only $500..."
Mega 50/50 we did over three days, I set the Mega 50/50 record at Emerald Coast Cruizin at the big fall show a few years ago of about $9,300. This show we broke that, Hurricane Michael Storm Relief was the beneficiary. The new record is $11,325. The winner won $5,662 and Hurricane Michael Storm Relief got $5,662. Plus we auctioned off some items and beer sales donated a portion of their sales. All total we gave a check to the Parrotheads organization for storm relief $10,162.
Emerald Coast Cruizin was an incredible car show in the spring. I can’t wait until the Big One in November. If you love cars, car shows and having fun, this is a show to put on your calendar. November 6-9 in Panama City Beach, FL. I’ll see you there! Next month, I’ll report on the 10th Annual New Roads Street Festival Car Show and we’ll preview “Burning Up The Beaches Car Show” in Destin, FL, a show you need to plan on attending May 4-7. 17 FOREVER is not just words, it’s a state of mind that we need to preserve forever! Boudreaux was walking down the street on his way to work and saw a parrot in a pet store. He stopped for a moment to admire the bird. The parrot looked at him and said, "Hey man, you are real ugly!" Boudreaux was furious and stormed past the store heading for work. On the way home, he saw the same parrot in the window. Seeing him, the parrot looked Boudreaux squarely in the eyes and said, "Hey man, you are real ugly!" Boudreaux's anger turned to rage as he marched into the store to confront the owner. "Look!" shouted Boudreaux. "Dat dum bird ya got dere in da window done called me ugly two times, him! You don't git him straight, I kin tell ya right now, I'm gunna sue da pants offa ya, kill dat bird, and use him for crab bait!" "I'm so sorry, sir," replied the owner, trying to get Boudreaux to calm down. "I can assure you it won't happen again." Just to be sure, Boudreaux passed by the store on his way to work again the next morning. The parrot looked at him and said, "Hey man..." "What?" asked Boudreaux. The parrot winked and said, "You know!" There's a little old Cajun lady living next door to an atheist. Every morning the lady comes out onto her front porch and shouts "Praise the Lord !!!" The atheist always yells back, "There is no God!" She does this every morning with the same result. As time goes on, this precious little Cajun lady runs into financial difficulties and has trouble buying food. She goes out onto the porch on one particular morning and asks God for help with groceries, then says "Praise the Lord !!!" The next morning she goes out onto the porch and there's the groceries she's asked for, so of course, she says "Praise the Lord !!!" The atheist jumps out from behind a bush and says, "Ha, I bought those groceries - there is no God !!!" The lady looks at him and smiles, then she shouts "Praise the Lord --- not only did you provide for me Lord, you made Satan pay for the groceries !"

March 9, 2019 By: ChandaElaine “How cute is this???” Maybe not the standard early morning greeting at a Texoma Cars & Coffee, but it was all I had when I saw this fantastic Autobianchi Bianchina minicar. (This particular vehicle is owned by Rob Driver.) Of course, you can only gush over how cute a car is before you have to find out more about it.
These were introduced to the market in 1955 as a way for Fiat to test new vehicle concepts like fiberglass bodies, front wheel drive, and FIRE (Fully Integrated Robotised Engine) – which would be incorporated into Fiat’s flagship vehicles. In fact, the Autobianchi Primula was the first vehicle to feature the transmission, engine, and differential arrangement for front-wheel drive which is still used in Fiat’s today.) By 1968 a financial crisis forced motorcycle manufacturer Biachi to sell its stake in Autobianchi to Fiat. By 1969, Fiat had incorporated Autobianchi into Lancia, where it remained until ending production in 1995. Fun fact: George Lucas’s father gave him a Autobianchi Bianchina. George, who would later go on to write and direct films classics such as American Graffiti and Star Wars, modified the Bianchina and entered it into races until he was injured in a crash in 1962. Then, before anymore dirt could be dug on Bianchina, the Trivia King struck, dumping a truck load of dirt on VW Campervan on me (photo at the bottom left column of the next page). Including: 1.) If all of the VW Campervan’s ever built were parked one after another, they would literally stretch across the United States; 2.) The first Campervan’s were sold in March 1950 after being introduced at the 1949 Geneva motor show; 3.) The Campervan was originally sold for $1250-$1900; 4.) By 2009, 1,000,000 VW campervan’s had been produced; however, production was ended in 2013. You never know what you are going to see or how much you are going to learn at Texoma Cars & Coffee! Can’t wait to see you there!
This tiny thing is the product of a joint venture between Italian auto makers Bianchi, Fiat, and Pirelli. Yep, Pirelli. As in tires.

What do you call them? Racing stripes? Ralley stripes? LeMans stripes? Whatever you call them, you have to admit, they look pretty awesome. In the 1950s, the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) rules required race teams to use specific colors representing their countries: Italians painted their cars red, British green, Belgians yellow, French blue, Germans silver and Americans white. If their chassis was exposed, the American chassis were painted blue. The colors were important in helping fans differentiate one team of cars from another because in some classes, such as Formula 1, the cars look very much alike – especially at high rates of speed. American millionaire Briggs Cunningham dreamed of winning the 24 Hours of LeMans, the world’s most prestigious sports car race. In 1950, he entered a pair of Cadillacs. One was a stock 2-door modified only with a dual-carburetor manifold and called the “Clumsy Puppy. The other was an aerodynamic-bodied racer called “Le Monstre” by the French. Cunningham’s cars finished 10th and 11th that year. Beginning in 1951, Cunningham chose to modify the FIA American colors and painted his cars white with a pair of blue stripes running up the hood, over the top and down the rear deck. His paint scheme was instantly recognizable and was referred to as “Cunningham stripes.”
By: Lynne Lightfoot
In the 1950s, Peter Brock finished modifying a 1946 Ford convertible whose low center of gravity made it a formidable canyon racer. Brock was a fan of Cunningham racing. In tribute, he painted his ’46 in the Cunningham stripe. It became his trademark and other vehicles he owned were painted in the same scheme. By 1964, Brock was the designer for Shelby American where he provided the unique exterior design for a special Shelby based on Ford’s new Mustang fastback. Because the cars were to be painted all white, they needed something to make them stand out and give them a competition appearance. It was decided that the car would not have any Mustang or Ford emblems. The 1965 Ford Mustang GT350 was given rocker panel stripes along the side bottom edge with the “GT350” designation at the front. A pair of twin, 10-inch wide LeMans stripes ran from the bottom of the front gravel pan, up the hood, over the roof, down the rear deck to the lower edge of the rear gravel pan. The GT350 was the first road car to have racing stripes and they were in the American racing colors that Cunningham first introduced.

Briggs Cunningham with some of his race cars, including the “Le Monstre” Cadillac. Cunningham never did win LeMans. His company closed in 1955. Although he stopped building cars of his own, Cunningham was still consumed by racing. In 1957, he became a Jaguar importer and sponsored a trio of D Jaguars. In 1958, he had a team of Jaguar-powered Listers. After that, he fielded Maseratis, the new E-Type Jaguars and Corvettes. All of his cars were painted his signature white with blue stripes.

The factory informally referred to the stripes as “LeMans stripes.” The only reference to stripes in 1965 Shelby literature was a letter to dealers calling them “Ralley Stripes.” To help spur early sales, dealers were offered stripes on one car free of charge if they ordered three or more cars at the same time. Although stripes appeared on GT350s in virtually every advertisement and magazine article, and also on all of the competition models, they were never formally listed as an option. They were just “available.” Many dealers feared buyers would not want stripes because they would attract undue attention from law enforcement, so they ordered cars without them. If a buyer wanted stripes, they could be added by the dealership’s paint shop.

www.GulfCoastMotorSports.com
The Shelby American factory sales and shipping invoices for 1965 show that 43% of all cars received Ralley stripes from the factory. There is no way to know how many of the non-striped cars were given their stripes from at a local dealership. Likewise, in 1966, 56% of the cars left the factory with Ralley stripes. By 1967, those striped numbers dropped so low that there are no records to indicate how many were factory striped thereafter. The Ralley stripes were short-lived, or so we thought.
2017 Dodge Viper GTS-R So, in the end, it doesn’t really matter what you call them, Ralley stripes can definitely set off your car’s quick lines and get lots of attention. If you don’t believe me, just ask any traffic cop.

Roosevelt's Limo
1972 Pontiac LeMans Stripes which wrap around the car sideways instead of down the center of the vehicle are called “bumblebee stripes.” Bumblebee stripes were featured prominently on the Dodge Charger Daytona race car and were part of Dodge’s “Scat Pack” performance package for its 1968-1971 muscle cars.
Hours after Pearl Harbor was bombed on December 7, 1941, the Secret Service found themselves in a bind. President Franklin D. Roosevelt was to give his Day of Infamy speech to Congress on Monday, and although the trip from the White House to Capitol Hill was short, agents weren't sure how to transport him safely. At the time, Federal Law prohibited buying any cars that cost more than $750, so they would have to get clearance from Congress to do that, and nobody had time for that. One of the Secret Service members, however, discovered that the US Treasury had seized the bulletproof car that mobster Al Capone owned when he was sent to jail in 1931. They cleaned it, made sure it was running perfectly and had it ready for the President the next day. Al Capone's 1928 Cadillac V-8 "Al Capone" Town Sedan became the President's Limo in December 1941. Mechanics are said to have cleaned and checked each feature of the Caddy well into the night of December 7th, to make sure that it would run properly the next day for the Commander in Chief. And run properly it did. It had been painted black and green to look identical to Chicago's police cars at the time. To top it off, the gangster's 1928 Cadillac Town Sedan had 3,000 pounds of armor and inch-thick bulletproof windows. It also had a specially installed siren and flashing lights hidden behind the grille, along with a police scanner radio. Footnote: The car sold at auction in 2012 for $341,000!
1969 Dodge Superbee with bumblebee stripe In 1996, a pair of 8-inch wide stripes were used on the Dodge Viper GTS, making the stripes fashionable once again.

Surbina Psychobilla By Candy Cocktail Born in the small Slovakian village of Sutovo/Martin, the European pinup artist known as Surbina Psychobilla spent her childhood surrounded by nature. Even as a child, Surbina liked to paint women styled in different poses and women in beautiful dresses that she created and designed, many times sewing the dresses for her Barbie dolls. This began her adoration of beautiful, stylized ladies. In her early years she was obsessed with women’s curves, high heels and lace lingerie since the first time she saw it in a women’s underwear magazine. She instantly loved all those corsets, garter belts and stockings. She spent hours imagining how she would wear all the beautiful lingerie when she grew up. Later attending the School of Applied Art from 2007-2011 and the Theory of Literature and Art from 2011-2016, she now works as an art teacher at an art school. In addition to working as an art teacher, she works as a painter and illustrator, specializing in painting women in pinup and fetish stylized pictures and motives. She paints classic oil and acrylic portraits as well. The brunette bombshell states, “Faces still fascinate me.” In her art, Surbina is inspired by lovely models, literature and poetry, movies, burlesque and vintage photos. Interested in art as the product of pop culture, she is now focusing more on the production of prints and posters of her designs. As the number of her fans has increased, there are now people all over the world that own Surbina’s paintings or illustrations. She is currently finishing an erotic bizarre short comic story called Naughty Nun, in which she incorporated one of my personal favorite pinup models, Masuimi Max. Surbina has worked with the legendary Masuimi Max many times, from designing her line of tees together, which are inspired and dedicated to the beauty’s burlesque acts. The Masuimi Max tees are available at www.masuimimax.com As amazing as working with Masuimi was, a few of the shirts were hand cut, distressed and re-designed by Jessica Nicole, of “Peepshow Clothing,” whose work Surbina loves. What’s next for the artist? New work with pinup model and New York City jazz singer Anna Varga. Surbina does private commissioned paintings if she has time between her works and an interest in the project. Payments must be made upfront via PayPal. For those that are interested in getting a piece of her seductive artwork tattooed, she requests that a purchase of her work is made prior to getting the ink or contact her so that she can design a special tattoo for you exclusively. Feel free to share her work, but be sure to tag her and give credits to the models and photographers. She sells a few of her original paintings, all of which are framed and signed. With new items coming and going constantly, her 2019 calendar is available now on the big cartel website.

THIS MONTH’S OVERSPRAY ARTICLE IS DEDICATED TO THE FAMOUS WATER TRICK. NOW THERE ARE MANY WAYS TO ACHIEVE THIS TRICK BUT I’M GONNA GIVE YOU MY VERSION THAT HAS BEEN TRIED AND TESTED FOR OVER 10 YEARS IN MY CAREER SO ENJOY AND TRY IT OUT FOR YOURSELF…. 1. I started this panel with a piece of aluminum. I’ve started to notice on all my OVERSPRAY articles the first step is usually the same. Start by scuffing the surface with a grey scratch pad in tiny circles. 2. Next I sprayed light layers of a course silver base until I got the desired coverage I needed. I had to once again grab my grey scratch pad and scuff up the base itself. I blew it off to get all the dust off and used wax and grease remover on it before I started the first real trick involved in this lesson. 3. Now for the fun part. I make sure I get some distilled water or a water bottle bought from any local store because I think personally it holds form better to do this trick. Now that you have your water make sure your project is on something flat and very stable with plenty of walk around room. Once you have it as I described you then use a spray bottle or your good old hands to drop water on your panel or project. Remember that your base is solvent and water does not disrupt the chemical balance so if you do not like what your water drops look like you can blow them off and try again. I like to always have some big areas like globs of water to have a cool effect when finished. Experiment and see what you can come up with. You might be surprised when your inner kid comes out doing this trick playing in water. Try to throw it hard, soft, and simply just let it drop for different types of patterns for your project. 4. You will next need two colors ready in your equipment. The first color is a bright white mixture and the other is a reduced black with a few drops of blue in it. (violet works too) The blue tones the black down a hair and makes it more subtle. So now you have your two colors ready and your ready to spray. Or are you? You need to check your air pressure FIRST or you are just going
24
APRIL 2019
to blow your water every where. So turn your air pressure all the way down to about 10 PSI or a little higher. (depends on your distance as well) Once I have the air right and the mixes ready to spray I start with the white. The angle is very important, you only want to hit the top side with white so you bend down and get an angle where you only mist the top side of the water drops. Sometimes the angle is very sharp and almost flat. I’ll work a few drops at a time watching them shake from the air but still hold form and concentrate on only the top side. You will see the water absorbing the white as you let it loose. Just take your time and slowly make it covered from only the top. Now repeat with the black/blue mix on the bottom side of your water drops at a sharp angle very slowly until you feel like you have hit all your drops accordingly because you can see what is taking as you do it. 5. Now that your done you simply watch and wait for the water to evaporate. 6. Now that it is dry you literally still feel like it is wet and you are scared to touch it. Now you can leave it like this or take it a little further. I like to keep it interesting so I stepped it up a notch. 7. I decided to lay some transparent down on it. I chose some blues, turquoise, and purples because they flow nicely. I always start with light to dark so I hit the center area first and then feathered the other too colors into it slowly to make a nice transition of power. 8. As you can see in close ups here that even in the dark areas you can clearly see your design in the end. Never get too greedy with transparent or kandy’s because eventually they will cover up your work. Nice even layers and then finish with a clear coat of your desired brand and now you have a bright metallic piece with water in it. I might add another layer of art on top of this panel later but for now we are done. I HOPE YOU ENJOYED THIS MONTHS OVERSPRAY HOW-TO… SEE YOU NEXT MONTH FANS!!!!!

and stayed there until the checkered flag waved! The track was really rough, so it was hard to tune the chassis because honestly, I didn’t know what to do to make it better for those rough conditions! We decided that our best bet for the feature was to just ride and keep our car in one piece! We’d just save it for another night! I basically told Chase to dodge holes and hang on! I was expecting at least a few cautions, but surprisingly they went flag to flag with no cautions! Chase brought us home 6th out of 9 cars and we have no damage! NO DAMAGE!!! I’ll take it! There were a few opportunities to make a move here or there, but it was too risky and would have probably destroyed our car (as well as a few others)! Chase did manage to make a few nice moves for positions as he battled to hold that 6th spot! Last year we started off the season with a DNF, so we’re already off to a better start for 2019! I’m going to keep it short this month as I’m sure I’ll have you all overloaded with racing updates and stories in the coming months! We’ve got some new things planned for Chase this season that I’ll be talking about in the next couple of articles as well! It’s going to be a great year for Chase! I want to thank you all once again for following along with our racing adventures! We really appreciate it! Thank you all for reading! Until next time…Chavus
DIRT TRACK REVIVAL By: Chavus Holland Welcome back everyone! Finally…I’m so excited to announce that the 2019 racing season has officially begun for Chase1Motorsports! We couldn’t be more thrilled! Since I left off last month, we have been thrashing to get the ole hotrod ready to hit the track! Most of you probably don’t know this, but Chase transferred this school year to D’Iberville High, where he is currently a sophomore student. He had previously attended Christian Collegiate Academy, where he was a standout cross country runner, as well as a starting 2nd baseman on the varsity baseball team for CCA! Chase made this transfer (mostly) so he could take advantage of the public-school system’s vocational trade classes. What does that have to do with our racing you ask??? Well, Chase is now in his first year in Ronald Parker’s precision machine shop class at Harrison County’s vocational school. If that name sounds familiar, it’s because Ronald Parker also builds our racing engines! Which also means Chase was able to work on and learn all about his racing engine during school hours! HOW COOL IS THAT??? Chase disassembled and cleaned his old racing engine with Ronald’s leadership. Chase was passing parts and tools to Ronald, and was very involved, as the new engine was coming to life! Chase was able to see and touch things that most adults don’t know anything about. Once Chase and Ronald had our engine assembled at the school, we brought it home for the final finishing assembly. Chase, Paw Paw George, and I all worked together to kick it off for the first time! What a great feeling, after all that hard work, to hear that beast come to life! We are very proud of the finished project! Next, we took the car to an open practice at Hattiesburg Speedway on March 9, to shake it down and test out that new engine. The engine was strong and the ole driver got right back up on that wheel where he had left off! It felt great to be back at the racetrack! On March 16, Hattiesburg Speedway held their opening event that was postponed due to weather from the previous weekend. This was also the night they hosted the USCS sprint cars. WHAT A SHOW!!! The weather, along with the already saturated ground, made for an unusually rough racetrack. That didn’t slow down the sprint cars! Tony Stewart was in the house, once again trying to conquer the tricky little track that we call home! Y’all…he put on a heck of a show coming through the field, which was not as easy as you would think, even for a superstar like Smoke! One of our locals (Shane Morgan “The Biloxi Bandit”) was able to hold Stewart off for a little while on his charge to the front. Shane came home with a respectable 4th place finish in a field of sure enough talent! Tony Stewart ended up 2nd at the checkered, in what was a real close and exciting finish! Maybe next time Smoke! I hope he keeps returning to our home track to compete. Whether you like him or not, you can’t help but recognize that he is good for business when he rolls into any little dirt track in America! He could go race anywhere, I’m glad he keeps coming back to Hattiesburg Speedway! Alright, now on to our night! We drew a great starting position, which put us on the pole for the 2nd heat race. We dropped to 2nd on the first lap

Every person has a gift to give. It could be knowledge, music, public speaking, art, etc. However, if you don’t give it, it only lasts your lifetime. Share it, and you become immortal… Donna “Sugar Bug” White
“1965 Dust Still Under the Hood” In the early 1960’s, Orlan “Rocky” Rockman, built and raced a homemade, street-legal altered with a small block Chevrolet motor. After a few years, he wanted to race gassers, so be built “The Big Rock” in 1965. Rocky had three sons, Lawton, Tim, and Keith. Lawton and Tim have kept their dad’s memory alive through The Big Rock. Lawton, born in 1954, has a wife (Debbie), four children, and 12 grandchildren. Tim, born in 1956, has a wife (Susan), three daughters, and five grandchildren. Growing up, they both had a 1967 Chevelle as their first race car. Their father was in the military and had a garage as well, so they were very familiar with racing and mechanics. The Big Rock is a 1959 uni-body Simca which was made from parts of the altered. He took the front end off of it and put it on The Big Rock, and the trunk lid became the firewall. It has a ¾ ton truck rear end, and the wheelie bars are from a J3 Cub 1941 airplane tire. Lawton helped his dad build most of the parts on the car and was also his crew chief. For example, they built the headers out of pieced together exhaust pipes (and these are still on the car). During this time, Rocky ran and beat the D-gas record several times. After Rocky’s death in 1973 at the age of 40, Lawton raced The Big Rock for a short time before it was sold. The person that bought it put it into a barn in Atlanta, GA and never moved it until 2001, when Keith Rockman brought the car back. They began fixing it back up to race again, including a new motor, tires, brakes, and transmission. Aside from those parts, the car (including the interior, windows, paint, lettering, etc.) have been kept original as it was in the 1960’s. As Tim says, “It still has 1965 dust under the hood”. Although they aren’t on the car, they still have the original tires from the car as well. Lawton and Tim raced it for the first time in Panama City, Florida. The Big Rock currently has a 355 cubic inch small block Chevy motor, and goes low to mid 7 seconds on 1/8 mile track (approximately 95 mph). Big Iron (Mr. Aubrey Padgett) was their dad’s biggest rival in the 1960’s. In 2009, during the first round of eliminations, Tim came up in the staging lanes, saw he was lined up against Mr. Aubrey, and said “Oh crap, I have to run Aubrey! If I don’t beat him, Dad’s going to kick my butt!”. Tim won that pass, and he says that pass has been the highlight of his racing career. Afterwards, Tim went and talked to Mr. Aubrey, who told him a story about Rocky and himself. Around 1970, Rocky and Mr. Aubrey had made it to the finals at a race, and Mr. Aubrey’s motor stalled. The officials told Rocky to go on down the track, that he had won by default. Instead, Rocky backed up, switched his car off, and gave Mr. Aubrey time to fix his car. They ran the race, and as Mr. Aubrey told Tim, “Your dad STILL smoked me! ”When I asked Tim who he would like to grudge race, he dropped his head, and said “Tommy Jones” (may he rest in peace). I’m sure Tommy is cheering you on, Tim! The Rockman’s truly love to race and show their dad’s car. Tim says it feels like his dad is making every pass with him. And of course part of him actually does.......they keep their dad’s old helmet in the car at all times.

Airplane landing gear Sugar Scoop: Tim Rockman has spent time in jail for street racing! In 1976, Tim was street racing a Duster in his 1967 Chevelle when he was 17. They came upon a road block and went straight through it. The Duster turned off into a neighborhood, but Tim kept going. When he got further down the road, the highway patrol had the entire road blocked off. Tim spun out and went into a ditch. The trooper, who walked up to Tim’s window, said “I believe you got him by a little, son”. They took Tim to jail with charges of going 136 in a 35 mph speed zone, alluding the police, etc.

Rockin’-n-Ramblin’ By:Stefanie Lea ….I'm proud to announce a new album called “Rumble Road” from a few friends of mine better known as HOT ROD WALT AND THE PSYCHO DEVILLES! The 10th album produced and financed by the band, along with all original music, no two are alike. As they each have a favorite song on this new album, and agree with Walt “It’s the best mix I've ever had.” So after hearing all the hype over this one I had to make it to the CD Release at the Dixie Traven in Marietta Georgia. I really enjoyed the energy the band this evening & over this new album. The bar is crowed and we made it at the end of sound check. This cd cover/ backdrop fits them very well, the stage is full of golds and red, its like looking an ol’ gasser on stage if you can imagine! I stood along with several of our friends, family & fans as we all waited, then you hear it! After seeing them live on this album what an experience, you could tell it flowed very well for them, it was not a as much of a labor of love as it was a passion for the music that unfolded in front of me tonight! Playing 4 hours of music was a night full of new, old and classics. Like a few of my favorite songs off this album “Rumble Road, “Cute but Psycho, “This old hat, “Gasser 66 and of course “Ain’t got no choice”. Mixed with a few of the original classic Psycho Devilles songs. A full house the whole night making new friends along the way that are now PSD fans! It was great to be a part of it all! Before I left I was able to ask Walt, Steve “Burnout” and Bufford the same question and they each tell me the same thing. This album has turned out to be there favorite. “This one has everything from mild to wild and just about everything in between.” says Walt. and I agree! So before you hit the open roads this car show season, go check out the website for a show near you at www.psychodevilles.com, plus pick up a fresh copy of Rumble Road or any of the CDs and swag they have to offer!

As a boy, Jesse was a chicken plucker. He stood on a line in a chicken factory and spent his days pulling the feathers off dead chickens so the rest of us wouldn't have to. It wasn't much of a job, but at the time, Jesse didn't think he was much of a person. His father was a brute of a man. His dad was actually thought to be mentally ill and treated Jesse rough all of his life. Jesse's older brother wasn't much better. He was always picking on Jesse and beating him up. Yes, Jesse grew up in a very rough home in West Virginia. Life was anything but easy and he thought life didn't hold much hope for him. That's why he was standing in this chicken line, doing a job that darn few people wanted. In addition to all the rough treatment at home, it seems that Jesse was always sick. Sometimes it was real physical illness, but way too often it was all in his head. He was a small child, skinny and meek. That sure didn't help the situation any. When he started to school, he was the object of every bully on the playground. He was a hypochondriac of the first order. For Jesse, tomorrow was not always something he looked forward to. But, he had dreams. He wanted to be a ventriloquist. He found books on ventriloquism. He practiced with sock puppets and saved his hard earned dollars until he could get a real ventriloquist dummy. When he got old enough, he joined the military, and even though many of his hypochondriac symptoms persisted, the military did recognize his talents and put him in the entertainment corps. That was when his world changed. He gained confidence. He found that he had a talent for making people laugh, and laugh so hard they often had tears in their eyes. Yes, little Jesse had found himself. History books are full of people who overcame a handicap to go on and make a success of themselves, but Jesse is one of the few who didn't overcome it. Instead he used his paranoia to make a million dollars, and become one of the best-loved character actors of all time in doing it! Welcome to The American Dream. Jesse Donald 'Don' Knotts, (July 21, 1924 February 24, 2006)
conspiracy:While the women were on their way, some of the guards went into the city and reported to the chief priests everything that had happened. When the chief priests had met with the elders and devised a plan, they gave the soldiers a large sum of money, telling them, “You are to say, ‘His disciples came during the night and stole him away while we were asleep.’ If this report gets to the governor, we will satisfy him and keep you out of trouble.” So the soldiers took the money and did as they were instructed. And this story has been widely circulated among the Jews to this very day (Matthew 28:11-15). Earlier Matthew records that it was the Jews who asked Pilate to place guards around the tomb because they remembered that Jesus had said, “After three days I will rise again.” The ironic fact is that on Saturday the only people worried about a resurrection were the people who put Jesus to death in the first place. The guards were there because the Jewish leaders feared that something strange might happen at the tomb. Thus the first Easter conspiracy was hatched even before the resurrection and was consummated afterwards by bribing the Roman guards. I. The Cover-Up You Won’t Believe But that was only the first of a long line of attempts to cover up the truth about Easter. Over the centuries skeptics have concocted a number of theories to explain away the resurrection of Jesus. Here are seven of the most popular alternatives to the empty tomb. Theory 1: Jesus didn’t die

tories all basically center around the work of the Jesus Seminar, a group of liberal scholars who have been sifting through the gospels since the early 1980s trying to separate fact from fiction, history from legend.
Casting Pebbles Instead of Stones The scholars discuss the evidence and then use colored pebbles to cast their votes concerning the words and deeds of Jesus. They are trying to determine which words and deeds were truly said and done by Jesus and which ones were the creation of the early church. The report is not encouraging. Most of the words of Jesus have been written off as the creation of the early church. Nearly all the miracles have also gone by the wayside. Last year the seminar finally got around to voting on the Resurrection. Did Jesus really rise from the dead as the gospels declare and as Christians have always believed? The vote was 24 to 1 against the Resurrection. Well, then, what happened to the body of Jesus? One scholar suggested it simply rotted in the grave, another said that it was thrown in a ditch and eaten by dogs. But how do you account for the resurrection narratives? And why did the early church believe them? Answers vary, but basically the scholars believe that the early church wanted to believe in the Resurrection so they essentially concocted the stories of Jesus rising from the dead. Others suggest that Jesus somehow rose in the hearts of his disciples so that it doesn’t matter if he literally rose or not. What If Jesus Did Not Rise? Lest that last suggestion sound foolish, let me report on the words of a theologian who was asked by the Washington Post, “What if Christ didn’t rise?” “If the bones of Jesus were found tomorrow,” she replied, “it would make no great difference to me. I would go on going to church as would the majority of Christians.”Let me hasten to say that this sermon is not about the skeptics, but I do believe it is important to notice the vast amount of space given to their views. The people of the world have always struggled with Easter. What really happened on that first Sunday morning 2,019 years ago in Jerusalem? Did Jesus rise from the dead or didn’t he? The First Easter Conspiracy It may surprise you to know that there were doubters and skeptics from the very beginning. In fact, Matthew records the very first Easter
Some skeptics have proposed that Jesus survived the crucifixion, swooned on the cross, revived in the tomb, came forth on Easter Sunday and fooled everyone into thinking he had risen from the dead. Just to state the theory is to refute it. The whole purpose of crucifixion was brutal, agonizing death. No one could possibly survive beating, scourging, the torture of crucifixion, and being pierced by a spear. The Romans were good at killing people. It was one of their specialties. They knew the difference between a dead man and an unconscious man. Besides, if Jesus did somehow revive after so much physical torture, how did he roll the stone away and then give the appearance of perfect physical health on Sunday morning? No, this theory makes no sense whatsoever. Theory 2: The disciples stole the body But why would they steal the body? All the gospel writers agree that they were not expecting a resurrection. When the women went to the tomb on Sunday, they were expecting to anoint a dead body, not meet their risen Lord. Besides, how do you explain the amazing transformation of the disciples from insecure cowards to flaming evangelists? And why did they all go to their death proclaiming Jesus’ resurrection. Men might die for a myth they wrongly believed, but it is impossible to think that they would willingly go to their death for a lie. Theory 3: The Jews stole the body This is a plausible theory except for one tiny fact. If the Jews stole the body, then all they had to do when the Christians said that Jesus had risen from the dead was to roll out the dead body of Jesus. End of the story. Besides, why would the Jews steal the body? They wanted to keep Jesus in the grave at all costs. Theory 4: The Romans stole the body This makes no sense because the Romans weren’t worried about Jesus one way or the other. They weren’t worried about a missing body (like the Jews) and they weren’t mourning a dead leader (like the disciples). As far as they were concerned, Jesus was just another dead Jew. They had no reason to tamper with the body. Theory 5: The body just disappeared Fine, but what does that mean? I call this the UFO theory. Bodies don’t just disappear. Something had to happen to it. A disappearing body still doesn’t explain why the early Christians unanimously believed that Jesus had risen from the dead. Theory 6: Mass hallucination Well, then, perhaps the early Christians suffered some kind of mass psychosis that caused all of them to have visions or hallucinations that they mistook for the risen Christ. This is difficult to square with the facts

as we know them and with the reality of human nature. Visions tend to be intensely personal events. Two people rarely have visions that are even remotely similar, much less identical. But Jesus appeared many times to many people over a 40-day period after his resurrection. At one point, he appeared to 500 people at once (see 1 Corinthians 15:5-7, which lists a number of post-resurrection appearances). Its strains credulity to believe that 500 people would have the same vision at the same time.Plus, you still have the pesky fact of the body. If his resurrection was a vision, then what happened to the body? No one has ever satisfactorily answered that question. Theory 7: Early church made up the story This is the current position of most liberal scholarship. It seems to be the position of most members of the Jesus Seminar. It actually combines elements of several of the previous theories. But like all the others, it stumbles over several hard facts. First, what happened to the body? If it simply rotted in the grave or was eaten by wild dogs, surely the early Christians would have known of that fact. Or the Jews would have used it to debunk Christianity. And why would the disciples suffer and die for a lie? And how do you explain the unanimous testimony that Jesus rose from the dead? It takes far more faith to believe this theory than it does to believe the straightforward testimony of the four gospels. II. The Evidence You Need to Know Let me share 22 reasons why I believe Jesus rose from the dead. In preparing this material, I have leaned heavily on the work of Josh McDowell (Evidence That Demands a Verdict and More Than a Carpenter), John Warwick Montgomery, Peter Kreeft, and others.By way of disclaimer, I do not expect these 22 reasons to convince anyone who doesn’t want to be convinced. I believe the evidence for Jesus’ resurrection to be compelling, but just as some people continue to believe in a flat earth, some deny the resurrection. Having said that, I believe there is no truthful way to read the four gospels and to fairly account for the evidence there presented without concluding that Jesus did in fact rise from the dead. A. He predicted he would rise from the dead Because he was the Son of God, he knew about his coming death in Jerusalem. But he also knew about his resurrection. In John 2:19-22 he said that he would be raised in three days—although the disciples did not understand it at the time. In John 10:17-18 he plainly said he had the power to lay down his own life and then to take it back up again. At the moment when Peter declared, “You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God,” Jesus told his disciples for the first time that he must go to Jerusalem, that he would be put to death, and that he would be raised to life on the third day (Matthew 16:21). B. Jesus really died The Romans were experts at killing. Everything they did to a victim was calculated to make him suffer unbearable pain and then to die an agonizing death. No one could have survived what Jesus suffered. He was dead Anyone can predict his own resurrection; only when they took him down from the cross. the Son of God can C. His body was embalmed and then fulfill such a prediction. buried Jewish burial customs of that day involved a complex mixture of spices and resin that, when placed between the layers of the grave clothes hardened to produce an impenetrable shell. The primary purpose, of course, was to keep robbers and animals out, but in this case it has the additional purpose of keeping the dead man inside. It also prevented unpleasant odors from spreading. The total weight of the winding cloth with the spices and resins would be 75-100 pounds. The evangelists note that Jesus’ body was taken down and hurriedly prepared for burial in the last few moments before sundown since Jewish law forbade touching a dead body on the Sabbath. He was buried in a newlydug tomb provided by Joseph of Arimathea. He and Nicodemus, along with the women, prepared the dead body for burial. Afterwards Pilate ordered the tomb sealed and then placed a squad of soldiers in front of the stone as a precaution against mischief of any kind. Although it is not often noticed, the gospel writers actually give quite a few details regarding the handling of the body and the preparation for burial. The only possible conclusion must be that Jesus was in fact actually dead on Friday evening. D. The disciples didn’t expect a resurrection In my mind this is one of the most telling points. Even though Jesus had repeatedly predicted his resurrection, somehow that truth simply failed to sink in. Either they didn’t

understand it, or they didn’t want to think about what it implied (Jesus’ death), or they forgot it in the emotion of watching him die. All four gospels make it clear that before the crucifixion, none of the disciples understood Jesus’ references to the resurrection. E. The women saw him first In our modern culture we don’t appreciate the significance of the fact that the women came first to the tomb. No firstcentury fiction writer would have put the women at the tomb first because women weren’t considered reliable witnesses. The only reason to say that the women saw him first is because that’s what actually happened. No one would have made up such a strange detail. F. No one believed it at first Not only did the disciples not expect a resurrection, Luke 24 makes it clear that the men didn’t believe the first reports from the women. Discounting them as unreliable, they decided to check the tomb for themselves. Remember, the disciples went into hiding after Friday because they feared for their own safety. They last thing they expected on Sunday morning was a resurrection. In the beginning, it wasn’t just Thomas who doubted. None of them believed the early reports and all of them had to be convinced over and over again that Jesus had risen from the dead. G. The Jews tried to cover it up Why try to cover up the resurrection if the body is still in the grave? The cover-up and the payoff only make sense if the tomb really was empty. Otherwise, they just trot out the dead body of Jesus and the resurrection becomes just another story with a bad ending. H. The stone was rolled away Josh McDowell goes into this at some length. First, the stone itself was three to six feet in diameter and weighed two to five tons. It took several strong men to roll it into place. Second, the New Testament uses several prepositions that indicate that the stone was not just rolled away; someone picked it up and physically moved it. Third, the seal on the stone could only be broken by a Roman official. Anyone else caught breaking the seal would be put to death. Who rolled the stone away? The disciples? The Roman guards would have stopped them. The Jews? Same thing. The Romans? Not likely. They had no motivation. And who would risk death to do such a thing? Who rolled the stone away? God did, because he’s the one who raised Jesus from the dead. I. The angels testified to the resurrection To the Jews angels always signified a special message from God. In the Old Testament angels were sent by God to announce very important events. In this case the angels announced the most important event of all time—the resurrection of Jesus Christ. J. The grave clothes were still in place When John wrote his version of the Sunday morning events, he includes the fascinating note that when he and Peter entered the tomb, they found the grave clothes lying in place with the linen head cloth folded next to it. Evidently the spices and resins had hardened into the shape of Jesus’ body, leaving the appearance of a cocoon after the butterfly has escaped. How do you explain that fact? Grave robbers would have taken the body without unwrapping it or they would have unwrapped it and thrown the winding sheets to the side. No one steals a body and then rewraps the grave clothes. I believe that when Jesus rose from the dead he literally passed right through the grave clothes leaving behind the linen wrappings just as John and Peter found them. K. The tomb was empty It’s interesting to note that all the contemporary witnesses agree on this fact. The disciples, the Jews, and the Romans all knew that the tomb was empty. It’s true that each group viewed that fact differently but no one disputed the basic assertion that on Easter Sunday morning Jesus was no longer in the tomb. L. No one ever found his body Again we come back to the fundamental issue. The Jews never produced his body. In fact, they concocted the first Easter conspiracy precisely because they didn’t know what happened to it. The Romans went along with the conspiracy because they didn’t know what happened either. If anyone—anyone at all—had produced the dead body of Jesus, the entire Christian movement would have gone the way of so many other short-lived religions across the centuries. No one has ever found the body of Jesus and no one ever will. The skeptics simply can’t answer the question, “What happened to his body?” M. He appeared to many people Taking the gospels together with 1 Corinthians, you get a list like this: First to the women, then to Peter and
www.GulfCoastMotorSports.com
John, then the disciples on the road to Emmaus, then to the disciples in the Upper Room, then to the disciples and Thomas one week later, then to the disciples in Galilee. And somewhere along the way he appeared to 500 people at once. There were other appearances as well that we cannot date precisely. Taken together, the list is impressive enough that it cannot be cavalierly dismissed as wishful thinking. Writing some 30 years later, Paul commented that most of those who saw the risen Christ were still alive and ready to testify to what they had seen. N. He showed his wounds to Doubting Thomas When Jesus appeared to Thomas a week after the resurrection he offered the ultimate apologetic proof. Spreading forth his hands, he said, “Touch my wounds. See for yourself.” When Thomas saw the wounds, he knew at last that it must be true. O. He ate with the disciples Luke 24:42, 43 tells us that Jesus ate broiled fish in the presence of the disciples. A ghost doesn’t eat fish. Neither does a dead man. P. He stayed with them for 40 days Forty days is a long time. If Jesus had only appeared once or twice, we might be tempted to discount it as a hopeful vision. But Jesus “showed himself alive” according to Acts 1:1-3 by “many infallible proofs.” He stayed long enough to convince all his followers that he had indeed come back from the dead. Q. The disciples were utterly transformed Here is one of the most remarkable facts surrounding the resurrection. Whereas before that Sunday the disciples were unsure, timid, doubting, and in general a lackluster bunch, afterwards to a man they were utterly, radically and completely transformed. They were quite literally new men. Suddenly these timid souls became first-century Billy Grahams, totally dedicated to spreading the good news to anyone who would listen. Persecution didn’t stop them, opposition didn’t faze them, hatred didn’t intimidate them, hardship didn’t slow them down, the threat of martyrdom didn’t intimidate them. To a man they became dynamos of Christian evangelism. In the words of the Bible, they went everywhere preaching the gospel. These were the men who turned the world upside down. What made the difference? I submit that the only possible answer is that these men met the risen Christ and he changed their lives forever. R. The early Christians all believed he had been raised This is nothing more than a simple historical observation. All the early Christians—without exception—believed that Jesus Christ had risen from the dead. The Jewish Christians believed, but so did the Gentiles. Wherever the gospel went, it produced converts who joined in proclaiming the risen Christ. S. The resurrection was the centerpiece of their preaching It’s interesting to read the accounts of the early Christian sermons from the book of Acts. They all centered on the truth of Jesus’ resurrection. We today tend to focus more on the death of Christ. But it was not so in the beginning. The first Christians understood that without the resurrection, the crucifixion had no meaning. T. They died testifying to the reality of the resurrection Church history tells us that of the eleven original disciples (not counting Judas) plus Paul, all died violent deaths for their faith in Jesus. The one exception was John, who spent his final years imprisoned on the island of Patmos. Beyond that, thousands of Christians died in the various Roman persecutions. Why would men and women die for a myth or a legend? Why would the apostles die for Christ if they knew he had not risen from the dead? U. For 2,019 years no one has produced a convincing answer to the question, “If Jesus didn’t rise from the dead, what happened to his body?” This is the ultimate unanswered question. Where is the body of Jesus? No one throughout 2,000 years of history has provided a credible answer to that question. In fact, I will go so far as to state that no one ever will. I’ve been to the Holy Land and I can tell you that you can start in the north and dig to the south or start in the east and dig to the west. You’ll find bones everywhere you dig. But you won’t find the bones of Jesus because they aren’t there.
III. The Question You Must Answer At this point I want to repeat what I have said before. No one should feel forced to believe because of anything I have said. Across the centuries millions have believed and many others have doubted. The issue this morning is quite simple. Where do you stand regarding the resurrection of Jesus? There is more than enough evidence for those who choose to believe. And there is room to doubt for those who care to do so. At this point we need to recall the words of Jesus to Thomas … “Stop doubting and believe!” (John 20:27). At some point you have to make up your mind one way or the other. “How can I be sure?” you ask. Examine the evidence. Study the eyewitness reports. Consider the options. Think about the possibilities. Answer the big question: What happened to his body? Make Up Your Mind Do you believe it was just a myth? Do you think Jesus somehow staged his own death and then faked his resurrection? Why did the Jews concoct a plot while Jesus was still dead? Why were they so afraid? Why were the grave clothes left in such an odd position? Why did the guards suddenly and unitedly pass out? What about the appearances of Jesus after his death? Was that simply a mass hallucination? And how do you account for the radical transformation of the disciples? And the conviction of the early church that Jesus had risen from the dead? Finally, if he didn’t rise from the dead, what happened to his body? These are the questions you need to think about. After you are through, then it’s time to make up your own mind. When Jesus stood before Pilate he declared, “Everyone on the side of truth listens to me” (John 18:37). Whose side are you on? The Garden Tomb One final word and I am done. Last year I visited the Holy Land for the second time. During our visit to Jerusalem, we spent some time at the Garden Tomb, the spot believed by many to be the actual burial place of Jesus. It is located next to Gordon’s Calvary, that strange rock outcropping that appears to be worn into the shape of a skull. In Jesus’ day we know it was used as a burial site. Many believe it was the spot of the crucifixion. The Garden Tomb is located about 100 yards from Gordon’s Calvary and is in fact the spot of a beautiful garden built over an ancient Roman aqueduct. To your left as you enter is a typical first-century tomb dug into the hillside. A trench in front of the opening was apparently designed for the massive stone that once covered the entrance. No Body There Because the opening is very small, I had to duck to go inside. For a few seconds, you see nothing until your eyes adjust to the darkness. Then you can easily make out the two chambers. Visitors stand in the mourners chamber. A wrought-iron fence protects the chamber where the body was laid. You soon notice that the burial chamber was originally designed for two bodies. However one ledge was never finished for some reason. The other one was. It appears to be designed for a person slightly less than six feet tall. As I looked around the burial chamber, I could see faint markings left by Christian pilgrims from earlier centuries. After a few seconds another thought enters the mind. There is no body to be found in this tomb. Whoever was buried there evidently left a long time ago. The Garden Tomb is empty! As you exit back into the sunlight, your eyes fasten upon a wooden sign: “Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here, for he is risen, as he said.” I am happy to declare those ancient words once again. The empty tomb really is empty because Jesus Christ really did rise from the dead. Let the people of God rejoice. “He is risen! He is risen indeed.”
V. Today over one billion Christians unite to proclaim that Jesus Christ is alive This morning we join with Christians around the world to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord and Savior. We stand in a long line of believers who proclaim with the angel, “He is not here, for he is risen, just as he said.”

Glin's 1930/32 Ford Coupe by AdPix.Biz model: Shana Glin's unique '32 is actually a '30, but with a '32 Ford frame and grill shell. In fact it sports the best of the best in several categories. It has a 1936 Ford dash and Glin added 1935 Dodge Auxiliary rims. These rims are famous for their use on military vehicles of the day, like the Power Wagon. They are 4.5” wide and 16” tall. He's installed a 1956 Chrysler 354 Hemi, with a Turbo 350 transmission. “Why?” you ask? This is the first generation Hemi, known as “Chrysler Fire Power.” It also used Chrysler's military experience and was a V-8 with overhead valves and a unique combustion chamber, designed to burn more efficiently. It caused the valves to oppose each other, which made for a wide combustion head - one of the way to identify it, (in addition to the Hemi stickers. Haha). Technology has advanced to the point that a Hemi is now just a sticker, albeit one of the most valuable motor trade names, ever, thanks to the reputation won by motors like this one in Glin's car. It displaced 5.7 liters & produced 180 hp with the standard 2-barrel carburetor, but 300 hp in the Chrysler 300C, with 4-barrel carbs. Glin's is the 300 hp one. For perspective, the '32 Ford weighed about 2,300 pounds and its factory V-8 produced 65 hp. Nearly tripling the horsepower by installing a Chrysler Firepower motor in it was a popular hot rodder mod back then. Glin's car has also been chopped 4 ½” & channeled 4.” The front 4” axle has been chromed and he's using a Ford 9” rear end. It might be for sale, or trade [ Corvette ] too, reluctantly. 251.209.3240 Glin loves this car, with or without Shana. He frequently
