“ You can’t be passive and just accept what comes along and think that’s you’re lot in life. We all have difficulties, bad breaks. That challenge is not there to defeat you; it’s there to promote you. On the other side, there’s a new level of God’s goodness. But, you have to do your part and get your fire back. ” …… Joel Osteen Cruizin’ in the passin’ lane By: Jimbo When my copy of the NSRA Streetscene came in and I turned to Curbside by Editor Tom Vogele, the subject of Big Money—Bad or Good? All of us try and save a buck if we can, so when it comes to our cars/bikes/trucks where do we make the compromise. Do you make that decision yourself or are you under pressure from your social group. Check out page 19 in this issue of Gulf Coast MotorSports. Thanks Tom for the re-print permission.. Hats off to Stefanie Lea her idea of a Gulf Coast MotorSports “Pit Stop” has really taken off. Stefanie aka “xoxo” is putting our magazine in the hands of a verity of folks hands, from rock-n-rollers and builders to the promoters & car show spectators across the country, and they have been spreading the word about her. . read “Our Road to SEMA” How was your July? What a fast month, started off with fireworks.. and ended up with a big picnic under shade trees.. Life is good! Well for those of you who were waiting for summer and warmer weather to arrive, it’s here!!! Some of our friends are running for the hills and mountains up North to get away from the heat. August must be a test for the people who truly want to live in the South. So for those of us who are left here holding down the fort, so to speak, there are a few activities we could go to.. But first Here are some of the emails….. Jimbo, Living in a small town, people will give you their opinion on everything, regardless if asked for or not. On one particular subject, my town’s opinion is split down the middle. Half of the town loves my car, and the other half despise it so much they see red. I drive an aqua colored, 1989 Subaru Legacy. Older women and stoners love my car, while my peers and uptight business men hate it. No matter their opinion though, my unique little automobile definitely makes an impact. When I first received my beat-up car, it was silver and covered in freckles of rust from living by the salty sea for too long. In it I learned to drive, and received both my permit and my license. was very early on in our history together, and since then a lot of things have happened. After I got my license, I decided to drive a carload full of my fellow 4-H camp counselors to a campground in the middle of nowhere. That night the windows were covered in dust, and as I went to back my car up I hit a huge myrtle wood tree. My cheeks turned fire truck red when I realized I had an audience composed of the camp director and her family. With no harm done to my car, I decided to take some of the other girl counselors up to their cabins. Well, I would have taken them up to their cabins if I had not backed my car into a ditch first. As a group we managed to push my car out without too much smoke emanating from the hood. Somehow, the car made it through that adventure unscathed. After our disastrous trip, my parents decided that my poor, little mode of transportation deserved a new paint job. There was a man in town that would do it for a cheap price, so all that was left to do was pick a color. Naturally, being an average teenage girl, I chose bright pink. However the automotive industry and teenage girls do not often see eye to eye; there happened to be no pink car paint available. My mom asked me what other color I would prefer. Disgruntled, I mumbled, “maybe Tiffany blue or something.” My mom definitely chose the “or something” route, because when I saw my car again it was not Tiffany blue. It was a teal-ish, aqua-ish, notreally-describable-ish monstrosity complete with the local painter

man’s trademark of matching hubcaps. The first few times I drove my car after that incident I was mortified. Since that fateful time however, my car and I have grown close. I learned all of her little secrets. For example, the only way to get out of the backseat is to have someone open it for you because of the inescapable child lock. I also learned that my car leaks in a few places. Unless I want a stream of stagnant rainwater to fall on my head in the winter when I make a sharp turn, than I better wear a rain jacket. My car is always stocked with extra air fresheners due to her musty, pond water scent. We have also run into problems due to the vibrant color that covers her outer layer. I have trouble avoiding anyone because my car is so vibrant. Policemen like to randomly follow me because the obnoxious color apparently makes me look like a dangerous driver. When I opened the door too fast at work and hit the picket fence, the paint left a streak across the plank of wood. Although my car has her shortcomings, she is really all I could ask for. I also have really interesting conversations with people because of my car. A local man that happens to smoke marijuana and looks just like Tommy Chong of the “Cheech and Chong” fame, once said to me “heyyy, your car is really a groovy classic, man.” I also have middleaged women come up reminiscently and tell me that their first car was that exact color. A former classmate used to tell me every day how much he hated my car, and I just laughed. Once, I even had a particularly ugly, little child scream “There goes that ugly car again!” At first I hated my car, but since then it has grown on me, and I even find myself doing things like subconsciously choosing the same hue that graces my car to paint on my fingernails. My car is a pathetic, junk car; but it is also a unique car perfectly fitted to a high school student. Together we have been through a lot and the adventures will continue to go on. As my hometown continues to go on giving me their opinions on my car, one thing will remain the same: at least it makes an impact. Lyndsey Gold Beach, OR Jimbo, I knew a man who was color-blind. We would shop during lunch hours. He would buy anything that was cheap. He bought some very unusual shirt and tie combo’s. Later his more fashion-conscious wife would see what we had let him buy. She would make him take it back for a refund. Cheap fun. I never bought a car because it was green, or any other color. Yet my most memorable cars were green. The third green car I remember was a metallic green 1957 Chevy 210 wagon, with V8, 4 barrels, and Power Pack. It had acceleration. There were two green sports cars, a factory

car in the ‘70’s, a kit car in the ‘80’s—both fun in very different ways. There were other green cars too. My current project car is green—bright metallic green. It was already that color when I got it. It’s too bright for a big old 4 door car. I’ve considered toning it down somehow. Lacking talent, money, time, and having priorities, I’m living with the color. It’s OK. Wheels, skirts, visor, and various body trim parts, all the “add-on’s” were painted the same paint color code, at different times, with different paints, etc. So, now it’s “five different colors of the same color green”. That’s OK. It’s almost poetic. I’m living with it. On February 27, 2016, something changed. I went to the VFW car show in Bay St. Louis. As I walked in, I saw a beautiful 1946 Chevy, bright metallic green. I took a picture from the left side. Walked ahead and turned to take a picture from the front. I was looking at a bright blue metallic car. I went back. But from the back it was a bright metallic green. I couldn’t believe my eyes. The pictures prove it. The new paint job changed from green to blue right before my eyes. That captured my imagination. My imagination lacks a budget. My project car is not a show car. It does not have new paint in its future. I went to the store, bought one of those 25-watt LED blue light bulbs and hung it over the project car. By daylight the project car is “five different colors of the same color green”. At night, it’s pretty much what you’d call “blue”. It’s OK. I’m living with it. Best Regards, Mendal Yoho Jimbo, These short stories are all very good stories and even though we may have read them before they can remind us to think twice about the daily happenings in our lives as we deal with others!!
1. Today, I interviewed my grandmother for part of a research paper I'm working on for my Psychology class. When I asked her to define success in her own words, she said; "Success is when you look back at your life and the memories make you smile." ------------------------------ ------------------------2. Today, I asked my mentor - a very successful business man in his 70s- what his top 3 tips are for success. He smiled and said; "Read something no one else is reading, think something no one else is thinking, and do something no one else is doing." ------------------------------ ------------------------3. Today, after my 72 hour shift at the fire station, a woman ran up to me at the grocery store and gave me a hug. When I tensed up, she realized I didn't recognize her. She let go with tears of joy in her eyes and the most sincere smile and said; "On 9-11-2001, you carried me out of the World Trade Center."

4. Today, after I watched my dog get run over by a car, I sat on the side of the road holding him and crying. And just before he died; he licked the tears off my face. ------------------------------ ------------------------5. Today at 7AM, I woke up feeling ill, but decided I needed the money, so I went into work. At 3PM I got laid off. On my drive home I got a flat tire. When I went into the trunk for the spare, it was flat too. A man in a BMW pulled over, gave me a ride, we chatted, and then he offered me a job. I start tomorrow. ------------------------------ ------------------------6. Today, as my father, three brothers, and two sisters stood around my mother's hospital bed, my mother uttered her last coherent words before she died. She simply said, "I feel so loved right now. We should have gotten together like this more often." ------------------------------ ------------------------7. Today, I kissed my dad on the forehead as he passed away in a small hospital bed. About 5 seconds after he Passed, I realized it was the first time I had given him a kiss since I was a little boy ------------------------------ ------------------------8. Today, in the cutest voice, my 8-yearold daughter asked me to start recycling. I chuckled and asked, "Why?" She replied, "So you can help me save the planet." I chuckled again and asked, "And why do you want to save the planet?" Because that's where I keep all my stuff," she said. ------------------------------ ------------------------9. Today, when I witnessed a 27-year-old breast cancer patient laughing hysterically at her 2-year-old daughter's antics, I suddenly realized that, I need to stop complaining about my life and start celebrating it again. ------------------------------ ------------------------10. Today, a boy in a wheelchair saw me desperately struggling on crutches with my broken leg and offered to carry my backpack and books for me. He helped me all the way across campus to my class and as he was leaving he said, "I hope you feel better soon." ------------------------------ ------------------------11. Today, I was feeling down because the results of a biopsy came back malignant. When I got home, I opened an e-mail that said, "Thinking of you today. If you need me, I'm a phone call away." It was from a high school friend I hadn't seen in 10 years. ------------------------------ -------------------------12. Today, I was traveling in Kenya and I met a refugee from Zimbabwe. He said he hadn't eaten anything in over 3 days and looked extremely skinny and unhealthy. Then my friend offered him the rest of the sandwich he was Eating. The first thing the man said was, "We can share it.The best sermons are lived, not preached…….. giff1500@
So I'm at Walmart buying a bag of dog food for my dog. While in the check-out line, a woman behind me asked if I had a dog. Why else would I be buying dog food, RIGHT??? So on impulse I told her that no, I didn't have a dog, I was starting the Purina Diet again, and that I probably shouldn't, because I ended up in the hospital last time, but that I'd lost 50 pounds before I awakened in intensive care with tubes coming out of most of my orifices and IVs in both arms. I told her that it was essentially a Perfect Diet and all you do is load your pockets with Nuggets and simply eat one or two every time you feel hungry. The food is nutritionally complete so it works well and I was going to try it again. (I have to mention here that practically everyone in line was now enthralled with my story.) Horrified, she asked if I ended up in intensive care because the dog food poisoned me. I told her no, I stepped off a curb to sniff a poodle's butt and a car hit me. I thought the guy behind her was going to have a heart attack he was laughing so hard. Better watch what you ask me and be prepared for my answer. @LarryTheCableGuy Jimbo, Thought this might be beneficial to all of the businesses that advertise or subscribe to your mag. Best regards, ‌... m_lammon@ Employee Handbook DRESS CODE It is advised that you come to work dressed according to your salary. I Hope everyone is enjoying our past few months (it seem to me) of all the rain, and now for the dog days of summer. I don't know why they call it that, I am almost sure that dogs don't even enjoy all this heat and humidity. I guess it's an old people thing, because as a kid most if not all of us ran around all day, riding bikes, tromping through wooded areas, and having a blast playing baseball, and football, not once caring about how hot it was. And then going home for super, then baths, and going to bed, many without the luxuries of A/C, and not once complaining about being too hot. My how times have changed. Many of my memories as a small child are of homes with attic fans, or like my Grand Parents house where they had a large window fan at the rear in the kitchen that drew air throughout the entire house. I do remember when my dad brought our first window A/C unit home. I remember it being quite heavy and almost too big to fit in a window. I helped him install it, I was maybe 12 or so, and being the oldest and naturally the biggest, I was his helper. When he plugged that thing in and turned it on it was noisy and blew like a hurricane of arctic cold air, and shook the whole house (to me anyway). After our first night sleeping with that loud thing chilling us to our core, I wanted to go stay with grandmaw and grandpaw, they still had the window fans, not nearly as frigid at their place. Just a quick update, I had a CAT scan ( hope I didn't kill the cat) and I go to see the Doctors one more time and hopefully they figure out this sinus thing. I feel a little better but still not quite right. But then most consider me not right anyway. I am so looking forward to escaping from the asylum of the Queens Castle. Later, and till next month, Gizmo

The Cole Report‌.. This month we started out in Slidell with the Fremaux Mall cruise in. They had around 45 cars and plenty of shopping for the ladies. The next weekend brought us to another one of the big ones on the Coast. Scrapin the Coast has grown through the years. This year even with rain/storms for a few days ahead of the event they still drew 1600+ cars/trucks/ bikes. This is one of the most diverse shows you could attend, you can see a 2017 bagged F350 dually parked next to a '26 rat rodded model T along with some of the best awards out there. The next stop found us gathering for the 4th Saturday Long Beach Harbor cruise in. This one always draws a parking lot of cars. The following weekend we headed to Biloxi for the Coast Cruizers Edgewater Mall cruise in. Y'all know the routine plenty of shopping for the ladies at this one and 100+ cars/trucks having a good time. Our next stop got us to the Pass Christian Harbor cruise in. This one usually draws 25/30 cars and always has a good Gulf breeze keeping you cool. On the next adventure we headed to Bay Saint Louis for the 2nd Saturday cruise in with the Misfits Street Krewzers 70+ cars. This one has the downtown artwalk with gift/craft/art shops for shopping and over 12 walking distance restaurants to eat at, along with the Bay breeze blowing on you. Always a fun one. Also as usual every month we made multiple Thursday night stops for the Silver Slipper Casino's weekly Thursday night car/bike night. See y'all somewhere or everywhere and remember to watch for our friends on bikes out cruising also. Allen Cole

It’s Summer again which, in our part of the world, means bar-b-cues, lemonade, sno-balls, and swimming pools. It means ice cold beer, water skiing, camping trips and beach vacations. It also means IT’S HOT! It hasn’t even gotten to the time of year when our hottest weather usually arrives, but Southern Grandmas are already saying, “It’s so hot, I just saw the devil dancing buck-naked in the middle of the street!” How did we ever survive before air conditioning – and before air conditioning in our cars? As a child growing up in Louisiana, we didn’t have air conditioning in our home, much less our car. I vividly remember having all the windows wide open and the attic fan running to “cool” the house off. When it rained, we often had to close the windows to keep the rain out, and that was just awful. I remember sleeping in seersucker pajamas with my bedroom window wide open and the air the fan brought in skimming softly over my bed. Despite not using any covers, just lying on the mattress was enough to make you uncomfortable. All our neighbors had their windows open, too. This made it easy for everyone to listen in on the each other’s business, especially if there was an argument going on or a child getting scolded. We could always clearly hear loud conversations from next door. Privacy wasn’t easy to obtain in those situations back then.
Despite Packard offering Weather Conditioners in 1939, their size, efficiency and cost - $274 back then (more than $4,700 in today’s market) – didn’t make for an option many people chose at the time. In 1953, Chrysler Imperial offered the Airtemp system. It was marketed as a unit that would quickly cool the passenger compartment and reduce humidity, dust, pollen and tobacco smoke. Airtemp had small ducts which directed cool air toward the ceiling of the car where it filtered down around the passengers, instead of blowing directly on them, something today’s systems no longer do.
Of course, there were good things about not having a home air conditioner, too. We could enjoy the wonderful odors of dinners cooking all around us and freshly washed clothes drying on the line always somehow smelled of sunshine as they dried quickly in the heat. To escape stifling heat inside, we went outside – something that, in my opinion, isn’t done often enough nowadays. We played under the shade trees, we sat on our porches and shared the evenings with others doing the same. Momma and Daddy always made sure we had a wading pool in our yard, so all my friends would come to our house to cool off on summer days. That pool was a God-send and made our house the neighborhood favorite. If Daddy cut the grass in the yard and we kids would help with the raking and sweeping, we would get a special treat of a 10 cents snowball from the neighborhood stand. I don’t think anything ever tasted so good. I vividly remember those paper cones leaking through the bottom and trying in vain not to get the syrup on my clothes. We didn’t get a home air conditioner until 1974 when we moved out of the house my grandfather built and into one my Daddy worked his hind end off renovating for us. Summers weren’t the same after that. We didn’t have a wading pool. We didn’t sit out with our neighbors. We didn’t listen in on the neighbors, nor they on us. In fact, we hardly knew our neighbors except to say “hello” to in passing. Now, as to car air conditioning, Popular Mechanics wrote in November 1933 that “any closed car, old or new” could be outfitted with an electric cooling and heating system which would provide ”all-the-year -round driving comfort.” Popular Mechanics predicted that the system would become standard on even low priced cars within a few years. They were wrong about how soon it would happen, but they were certainly right that it would happen.

1953 Chrysler Imperial 2-Tone with Airtemp Vents Cadillac, Buick and Oldsmobile added air conditioning options on some 1953 model cars using Frigidaire systems. In 1954, the Nash Ambassador was the first American car to have a front-end, fully integrated heating, ventilating and air conditioning system made by the Nash-Kelvinator Corporation. It was also the first mass marketed system with controls on the dashboard.

Remember Swamp Coolers.? These were window-mounted evaporative coolers that worked best in lower humidity, which might be why they weren’t widely used in our area. They always looked to me like a part of a space ship because of their shape and the sound they made.
Is this in our 'not too distant' future? Hello! Is this Gordon's Pizza? No sir - it's Google Pizza. I must have dialed a wrong number. Sorry. No sir - Google bought Gordon's Pizza last month. OK. I would like to order a pizza. Do you want your usual, sir? My usual - you know me? According to our caller ID data sheet, the last 12 times you called you ordered an extra-large pizza with three cheeses - sausage pepperoni - mushrooms and meat balls on a thick crust. OK - that's what I want . May I suggest that this time you order a pizza with ricotta - arugula - sun-dried tomatoes and olives on a whole wheat, gluten free, thin crust? What? I detest vegetables. Your cholesterol is not good, sir. How the hell do you know? Well, we cross-referenced your home phone number with your medical records. We have the result of your blood tests for the last 7 years. Okay, but I do not want your rotten vegetable pizza! take medication for my cholesterol.
I already
Excuse me sir, but you have not taken your medication regularly. According to our database, you only purchased a box of 30 cholesterol tablets once, at Drugsale Network, 4 months ago. I bought more from another drugstore. That doesn't show on your credit card statement.
Both Photos - Oldsmobile with a Swamp Cooler And what about vinyl car seats in the summertime? Just trying to sit down was often painful because the hot seats would burn your legs, especially if you were wearing shorts. We would crank down all the windows and pray the driver would get up enough speed to make a decent breeze while moving. Sitting at a stop light was unbearable if you weren’t in some shade. You’d get out of the car after a ride and the imprint of the seats would be stamped on the back of your legs and they’d be wet with sweat despite shifting and moving while riding so as not to stick to the seat. Grandma kept a towel in Grandpa’s Chevy station wagon just for drying off sweat in the summer. I think our family got our first car with an air conditioner in the late 1960’s. I remember it was in a Ford sedan my Daddy bought used from his company. The air conditioner leaked all over the passenger side front floor and was an awful mess. We didn’t keep it too long because of that. When I was in high school, we had a 1974 Datsun B210. Momma insisted on buying the bare-bones-basic model because it would be economical to drive. It was a 5-speed standard transmission and, of course, had no air conditioner. It was especially hot when we would pack a bunch of my friends into it on a summer night, but despite that, we’d pile in together, sweat, complain and have a wonderful time. Today, we wouldn’t think of buying a new vehicle without air conditioning. It is a necessity. However, we love our Classic Cars, many of which don’t have air conditioners. I know that our ’52 Chevy Styleline, “The Turtle,” certainly didn’t come with one and we don’t plan on having one installed. So, despite the temperatures being so hot that “even Satan is sweating today,” we will still pile in, head off to a car show, sweat, complain and have a wonderful time.
I paid in cash. But you did not withdraw enough cash according to your bank statement. I have other sources of cash. That doesn't show on your last tax return unless you bought them using an undeclared income source, which is against the law. WHAT THE HELL? ! ! ! ! I'm sorry, sir, we use such information only with the sole intention of helping you. Enough already! I'm sick to death of Google - Facebook - Twitter WhatsApp and all the others!! I'm going to an island without internet - cable TV - where there is no cell phone service and no one to watch me or spy on me !! I understand sir - but you need to renew your passport first. It expired 6 weeks ago!!

By: Michael Lachaussee The July Lucedale Hardee's Breakfast managed to avoid the rain and the turnout was good. We were honored to have Tommy Smith (Chicken Willie) our Mississippi Representative to the NSRA bring his stock 1958 Chevy Impala. Chicken Willie drove all the way from Brookhaven, 150 miles, to enjoy the camaraderie of the breakfast gang. He purchased this vehicle in April 1959 from his cousin who was going into the military. The car had 15,000 miles on it. It's all original with a 348 - 4 barrel, 250 horse power. In addition to this vehicle, he has a 1940 Ford street rod, a 1957 Chevy 210 Station Wagon, a 1957 Bel Air, a 35 Chevy all original and a 53 Olds. Needless to say, he stays pretty busy. When asked about his love for cars, he said he had developed this love from a very young age and he is now 83 years young. His first purchase of a vehicle was when he was 14 years old. He bought a '28 Ford and paid $10.00 for it. Wish we could find one of those deals today! I asked him how he got his nickname. He said in Lincoln County
(Brookhaven) there was a "juke" joint called Chicken Willie's and everyone knew about this joint. He said he went off to work and one of his co-workers asked him where he was from. He told him Brookhaven and the man said isn't that in Lincoln County with the juke joint Chicken Willie's. He said from that day forward everyone called him "Chicken Willie"! Thanks so much Chicken Willie for your dedicated representation of Mississippi at the NSRA and your many trips to car shows spreading good will for our State. We really appreciate you making the long drive to be with us and welcome you back anytime.

Frank Busby of Semmes, Alabama brought this 1930 Ford Model A street rod. It has a 350 Chevy with a Corvette rear end. Frank has been the proud owner for only 2 weeks. The color scheme on this street rod is a head turner. Thanks for sharing your new purchase with us and we wish you many happy (trouble free) miles!
Michael White from Hurley, drove this all stock 1930 Chevrolet for it's maiden trip to Lucedale. He found it in North Carolina. In 1930 all sedan cars were AD Universal and all trucks were AC. However, this car is an AD Universal Special. There were 9 models and this one was the highest class. When you look this car over you can see why it is called "special". This car was restored in 1972-1974 by a Veterinarian in North Carolina and he had a plate stamped with his name and date mounted in the floor. The original price on this automobile was $745.00. At that time, the Ford was selling for around $400.00. I guess you would have had to be rich to purchase a Chevy!! Michael also has a 51 Chevy Deluxe. He's been collecting for about 3 years and has always loved cars. Great seeing this piece of history Michael and please come again.

world, like English and math etc. My dad fires it up and backs out, turns to the east, gently pulls away a few feet, going maybe 5 or 10mph. Then it happened honest! He blips the throttle, dumps the clutch and floors it! My dad is laying down a 30' long posi burnout! Those wide whitewall bias plys are smoking’ like mad. I nearly had a heart attack. I vowed from that day on, some day I’d own a Vette.
By: Scott Strenzel aka “Scooter” This about how I got hooked on cars. I feel us older gray-hairs should share the way it was with our youth that will carry on our hobby. It’s a warm October day in 1958; I’m about 12 years old and at school during my lunch. I’m upside down at the student’s parking lot checking out the rods & customs. If you Gulf Coast MotorSports readers recall, back in the 1950’s and 1960’s in October the next model year cars came out and were the talk of us car guys. Everyone from 1st graders to seniors was out on the school front lawn. All of the sudden most of us catch a shimmer of bright shinny paint as a car approaches. Wholly poop Batman; it‘s a brand new 1959 Corvette! Now you all have to take note that back in the 1950’s about 80% of everyone in the USA had never even seen a Vette in person, much less us northern Michigan redneck hillbillies (not really, but it sounds good). It was a Tasco Turquoise, solid lifter, Duntov 3/4 race cam, Ram Jet fuel injected, 4 speed, 4:11 posi honest to goodness Vette!
The whole school lawn crowd was in awe. Damn, it’s my dad! Turns out the GM factory rep was visiting Henry’s dealership and let my dad use it while he and Henry (the owner and my dad’s boss) were ‘doing lunch’. My way cool dad revs up the engine as he pulls in and waves me over to it. By now a crowd had gathered. Dad stepped out and told me I could sit in it. As he was no dummy he had already shut it off and removed the keys. Man how neat is this! I was the proudest 7th grader in the world. OK. Time for me to get back into the real

Gotta Walk Before You Run! OK, I’m saving money. Hoping maybe some day dad will let me buy and have a car. I’m 14, and dad’s bosses’ son Art got one of those old time “farm licenses”, so he could drive at age 14! Back in those days the idea was that the farmer’s son could then help out and be driving the farm truck to the grain mill or to get parts to fix the tractor etc. Art was lucky; his dad had hired him to be the dealership lot boy. It paid a whopping $1.10 an hour. Art now was a rich guy as far as I was concerned. I was making my money from a Grand Rapids Herald paper route on my American Flyer bicycle. Plus I also had a GRIT (remember those) paper route. Then on a Saturday in April of 1960 my dad came home for lunch driving this 1954 210 Chevrolet 2 door club coupe. I walked outside to give it a closer look. He tells me it’s mine… If I give him the $65 bucks he knew I had saved for my Vette. WOW! It’s a done deal! I’m a car owner. The very next Monday I’m downtown getting one of those farm licenses so I can begin cruising legally and begin being a cool dude. Dad and I quickly cram down a couple of hamburgers mom had made with some American fries, and get down to being “men”! Dad lets me drive him back to the dealership. Then he informs me I’d best get with either Bob or Louie, the two mechanics at the dealership and have them check it all over to be sure it’s safe to run down the highway. Bob tells me the last stall, complete with a hoist, was now sort of mine. Henry’s son Art already had the stall next to mine as it was closer to the Louie’s tool chests and the Sun machine, etc. Both Bob and Louie took the time to guide me in most everything I tried to do. This way it was always correct in the end. I was in grease heaven! I removed the hubcaps, bought a chrome exhaust tip, a pair of hanging dice, some of those skunk air fresheners. If you remember those, you are old just like Scooter. Besides they were 5 cents cheaper than the green pine tree
www.GulfCoastMotorSports.com
ones. I was helped with an oil change and threw in a new set of AC spark plugs. Bob did a lube job and tossed in some new points. Then he walked up to me and extended his hand. I figured he was going to give me an adult type hand shake. Not so. He opened his hand and a pair of glass blue dots fell into my hand. DECENT! He told me he’d help me drill the lenses so they would get done right. Guys and gals… I’ve got it made in the shade. Oh yes, my new ride was a 235 straight six with a Powerglide transmission. It had the skirts, some above the rear fender rust, but it still was mine. It also was sea foam green with a cream roof. The interior was the rare 3 or 4 inch square tutone vinyl green and cream club coupe design and was pretty nice. After the suspension, etc. was checked and given a safe assessment, I was off to South Side Auto Parts to see if I could find extra grill teeth to install on my wanna be custom car. Total cost for the grill teeth was $3.00. As I was cruising back to my stall at the dealership, I figured I’d let the big dog run. First I stopped on a dirt road and did a power brake tear out and threw a bunch of gravel. It was fun but as we all know a 6 is not a screamer. But hey, I’m only 14. So let’s keep the pedal to the metal. I next performed what I thought was a controlled 4 wheel drift around a corner. I ended up almost tipping it over from a slide off the gravel road and into the muddy ditch. I just jerked the non-power steering wheel and jammed on the gas. My dad has been a member and the treasurer of our local Congregational Church for maybe 30 years. Maybe the “guy in the sky” lets me get thru this foolish attempt at being a hot rodder! My 1954 comes to rest, up right, back on the road, but completely side ways. Maybe I’d best spend some time learning how to drive safely, before I try any more fun/stupid car things.
What’s your favorite movie? Mine is, and forever will be, one released on August 1, 1973 called “AMERICAN GRAFITTI”! And now, Scooter has been totally humbled by being given hours of interview time with Candy Clark. We know her as Debbie Dunham, the quintessential ditsy blonde that hung with “Toad” (Charles Martin Smith) on that ultra successful movie. This role garnered Candy an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress as Debbie. Quite an accomplishment, as it was one of her first acting jobs. The movie ended up with a total of like 5 nominations. Candy told me that she and her then BF Jeff Bridges had a blast attending the red carpet affair, even though she did not win. She also shared with me that the movie was actually filmed in Petaluna, though speculated to have been several other locations. The filming was done in 28 days, mostly at night, and it was cold enough to see your breath that time of the year, even in California. In fact, for those of you like me, who closely watched the 58 pull out of Mel’s Drive-In with exhaust smoking, here’s a thought. I always figured it was oil smoke, and now we know it was because it had been sitting and was just cold. Another interesting tidbit she revealed was that Richard Dreyfus had much to learn quickly about the CA scene. Having grown up in New York, he had never experienced the cars, cruising, drag racing, and drive-ins until this film. By the way, some may think “American Graffiti” was Candy Clark’s only claim-to-fame in Hollywood. No way my friend! This totally together, beautiful gal has been involved in way more than a lot of us seem to realize. Like to the tune of over 50 movies and TV rolls. Heck, I just saw her on “Criminal Minds” episode a while ago. For you young guns that haven’t seen “American Graffiti “ the number of times Scooter has, let me toss out a some names she worked with, that you will know, just on that movie. Ron Howard, Harrison Ford, Richard Dreyfuss, Paul Lemat, Charles Martin Smith, Mackenzie Phillips, Wolfman Jack, Cindy Williams, Suzanne Somers, Bo Hopkins, Kathleen Quinlan, Johnny Weissmuller Jr. Debralee Scott, and Joe Spano. Plus, here is a short list of top Hollywood stars that Candy has worked with over the 30 or 40 years of her acting career so far. Robert Mitchum, Sara Miles, Richard Boone, David Bowie, Rip Torn, Roy Schneider, the cast of “Criminal Minds” and many more. OK, car peeps, let’s get to know Candy as the awesome woman she is when not doing the Hollywood thing. She will be the first one to tell you she will never have all of her eggs in the same basket. She is very smart, and has diversified financially by investing a buck or two in real-estate, a limo service, and antiques. Plus she still finds time for her acting career and her genuine love of the car hobby. Candy enjoys attending events all over the world, still being recognized for her part in my favorite movie. She loves the car shows, meeting and greeting us car guys and gals, and sharing her love for the cars. If you get the chance to chat with her as I have, you will see she is a down-to-earth genuine lady with great humor. She was the honored guest at one event in Sweden, with over 85,000 people there. They love American car movies big time. She was telling me that she enjoys getting to meet fans of all walks of life and ages. One time, this guy over in England walks up to her table and asks for an autograph, with his British accent and sun glasses on. He was acting more star struck than most, so she smiles, engaging in some conversation, attempting to get him to relax. He tells her “AG” is his very favorite movie; and he has seen it at least 1,000 times for sure. He
says he is a total American 50 – 60s car and nostalgia fan, and wishes he had more time to be normal to spend time with cars. Candy bites, and asks what he does for a living, that he never has time to work on or play with old cars. He simply takes off his glasses, bends over, gets real close to her face and reveals that he is none other than famous rocker / guitar player JEFF BECK! Wow! Just another day at a car show, For Candy. This “California gal” also happens to have her beautiful home knee deep in every plant, flower, and veggie in this world, and some I’ve never even heard of. Candy is a completely knowledgeable garden aficionado of fruits and veggies. She even raises three chickens so she can eat non chemical assisted, fresh eggs for breakfast. Although when she and her boy friend (darn it) or gal friends go out to eat, her favorite type of restaurant is one that you go out back and select the cut of your rib eye right off the hanging slab, and the chef cuts it and cooks it right in front of you. Attending a car event is very big with her, but also for fun she enjoys heading out to yard, garage, and estate sales. She also does some selling on line of the larger antiques. She's the older sibling, and has four brothers in Texas. She drives a “normal” car so she can run around and be herself, blending in to avoid recognition. I am here to tell you, this lady has her collective stuff together and knows where it’s all at, plus she has not been bitten by the bad Hollywood /movie star attributes and related problems. Candy Clark is intelligent, beautiful, with a great sense of humor! Who could ask for more? I am blessed to know her. Thanks my friend, if I can call you that. Scooter scooter4422@comcast.net

By Kathy & Mike Hanephin 1970 Hemi Cuda Convertible It was two weeks before the start of the world's greatest road trip, Hot Rod Power Tour and my Cuda was running great. What does a sane person do for his fourth Power Tour? Never claiming to be sane, I decided to adjust the valves on the Hemi. It went well. After buttoning everything up, it would not start. Not time to panic yet, we still have a week before we depart. It took five days of trouble shooting to find the tach I just had rebuilt had shorted to ground, which killed all power to the coil. I removed the tach wire, installed an aftermarket tach under the dash and we were off. I have to give a shout out to my wife Kathy for packing everything in a soft side case which fit in the trunk; she is getting good!!! The first stop on Thursday was in Pine Bluff, Ark where we met up with two other Mopar’s, Mike and Stacy (our official navigator) in a 1972 Plymouth Duster and Skip in his 1974 Charger. On Friday, we made it to the registration at Kansas City's Arrowhead Stadium and got checked in. On Saturday (Day 1), we made the rounds of all vendors and got our logo-stamped freebies. We went to Boulevard Brewery and did some tasting, but the tour was sold out. We did some sightseeing and then filled our bellies with great Kansas City barbecue. Sunday morning (Day 2) we were off to The Iowa Speedway in Newton, IA. along the route, we stopped at the Sprint Car Museum in Knoxville, and walked to “The Rib Shack” for lunch. We checked in at the speedway, got our freebies and we viewed some of the many cars that showed up. On Monday (Day 3), we were off to Davenport, IA. We stopped for lunch at the World’s Largest Truck Stop and Museum. The Museum was free and very interesting. I became aware of trucks I never knew existed. We made it to the venue, the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds, checked in, and visited vendors to get our daily magnets. After we left the fairgrounds we went to Antique Archaeology (American Pickers) in LeClaire, Iowa. They had some interesting stuff, but most of the good items were not for sale. Turns out most of the items are sold on the web. We then met at Front Street Brewery on the Mississippi River right below the dam. Good food and beer (you see a theme developing here). The next morning (Day 4) we were off to Champaign, Ill. We enjoyed the route and waving to all the people on the side of the road. The police made an effort to expedite the large volume of cars going through the small towns. Being early in the herd is a definite plus. We stopped at the Wheels of Time Museum which was supposed to be closed but was open thanks to Ryan Brut, the leader of the Mopar’s on the tour. The museum was impressive! There were all kinds of interesting items including a train that we sounded the steam whistle on probably too many times. We made it to the tour stop at Illinois University and picked up our magnets again. Mike’s Duster was getting the shakes when he applied the brakes. He tried to locate some rotors, but they were not available locally. He called the O'Reilly’s in Madison, IL so they would have it the next day.

We left early the next morning (Day 5) and followed the route, beautiful country and friendly people along the way. We made it to Gateway Motorsports Park. Mike and Skip found a neat go cart track in the infield of the NASCAR track. Being children at heart we headed over and had a great time. Last time I checked, coming in fourth out of four puts you in last place, well someone had to bring up the rear and unfortunately it was me. Mike picked up his parts and after an eventful installation, which included borrowing a C clamp from a welder’s truck in the hotel parking lot and a quick burnout for the crowd, he was good to go. Next morning we headed off to Indy (Day 6). We detoured off the route and stopped at the Finer Details Restoration Shop. They had an open house for the Mopar’s on Power Tour and offered lunch too. The owner, Ken Mosier, gave me an antenna top which I had broken off the Cuda, while putting the cover on the day before, and even installed it for me at no charge. It was an impressive shop with a lot of cool cars and people. We arrived at Indianapolis Raceway Park and yes, got our magnets. We decided to go over to the Indianapolis Motor Speedway to check things out. Unfortunately the museum was closed, but they had some vintage cars running the road course. We found that Jaguar was giving free rides in the infield at an autocross track. Everyone was able to drive two cars around the track twice. I thought the 380hp XE model was pretty fast, but the 550hp F-type was smoking, left a lot of rubber on the track. We left the speedway in search for beer. We sampled some beer at Daredevil Brewery across the street from the Dallara race shop where they build Indy race cars and had dinner at Big Woods Speedway Restaurant. On Friday (Day 7), we were off to Bowling Green, Ky. We followed the route and thank goodness we left early. Close to the Kentucky border there was a bridge under repair which had a stop light on each side for the one way traffic. It only took us about 30 minutes in stop and go traffic to get across, but we heard later it was up to over an hour and a half. We arrived at Bowling Green Regional Airport and checked in and got our magnets. It was extremely hot with very little shade. Mike and Skip found a place with a building giving some shade so we gathered there waiting for the Long Hauler awards. We joined the line and they handed out the awards right on time. Skip headed home that night. On Saturday, Mike and Stacy went to Beech Bend Raceway for the NHRA Hot Rod Reunion nostalgia race. Kathy and I went off to the Corvette Museum and Mammoth Caves. Sunday morning we traveled to Dayton, Tn. to visit a friend for two days. Finally made it home on Tuesday with a total of 3,040 miles logged. Had a great time and can’t wait till next year. Now I need a beer, and some barbecue, and a tach. My writing only involved about 30 minutes but Mike and Stacy spent hours correcting my errors and adding what I forgot, thanks to them this all makes sense.

This month I had the opportunity to meet a mighty nice gear head type, the owner/ craftsman Mr. Eddie Reid, at Pro-Street Custom, in Petal Ms. I would say it's a big shop (by my standards) but Mr. Eddie and the 7 other talented folks that work there say its small, only because it is full of customers cars. There are at present, Thirty or so cars in the shop, and a few others out for upholstery. His past is not unlike most others, he started working on cars and friends cars at a young age and throughout high school. He then partnered with a friend selling cars, now and then fixing a few at home. His next step was to just fixing, restoring, and modifying cars out of his home shop in 2006, which quickly became too small, so another place was found to ply his passion and trade. That too became rather small due to, too many cars to do and not enough space. So he moved his operation to its present location in 2011. I am sure that too will become too small as well. Mr. Eddie and his crew do everything but upholstery, they can do complete restorations, large and small repairs, and can do motor swaps, such as new computer controlled engines in old style cars. They are a repair facility for many major antique and specialty car and truck insurance carriers. He is even a certified motor vehicle appraiser. They have repaired, built, or restored cars for customers all around the world. To say this is a talented group of craftsmen is an understatement. He just says humbly that he is mighty Blessed. All of his crew say the same thing they are just Blessed to be working on cars and trucks, they enjoy it because it is their passion. Stop in and see him if you need some work done on your old ride, you just might be glad you did. Till next month Gizmo.

Stefanie Lea After a few pot holes and speed bumps along the way, we are back on the ROAD TO SEMA 2017. With a little more passion then before I must say! I talk a lot about passion & what drive it takes to build any style of car. Rat Rod, Hot Rod, Full custom or a Full restoration. I hear from every builder I have talked to or worked with or know personally. They all tell me all the same thing. Its when someone tells them,,, "YOU CAN'T DO THAT!" "IT CAN'T BE DONE!" Or my favorite....."YOU AREN'T GOOD ENOUGH!" So if nothing else ROAD TO SEMA 2017... has shown me I have the same passion as some of my favorite builders do. Like my buddy Will Posey from Big Oak Garage out of Hokes Bluff, Alabama. Will and I have been friends for a few year's. Always running into him and his beautiful family at local cruse in around North Alabama. Knowing the quality of work Big Oak Garage produces, seeing him in Las Vegas was no surprise to me. On display at the SEMA 2016, the stunning 1932 Ford Two Door Sedan. The Gold color masterpiece just shinned sitting on that red carpet. Just like it did on the asphalt in Alabama. This Hot Rod build has always been a show stopper not matter where he drove up at! The 60 inspired Hot Rod turned out just like his customer Dr. David Floyd wanted. Will and the crew at Big Oak Garage pushed themselves to do all the detail and things that Dr. Floyd requested. From the fender work down to the dash and interior details on this Hot Rod, shows in the hard labor Will and his team poured into it. I see something different every time I look at this car. I know the passion it took Will and his team to make these things happen, this is just what I have been speaking of. When I was speaking to Will before we went to SEMA last year, he told me it was his 7th year to be apart of SEMA. The SEMA event is something he spoke of then just like he did today, with pride and excitement in his voice. He tells me that he is just as honored and humbled to be invited back as he was the first year he went. On The ROAD TO SEMA 2017, to him its the epitome of what his loves. Will told me this year the Big Oak Garage will be bringing a‌ 1942 Chevy Truck, modern traditional with 3 two barrels along with EFI injection, all trimmed out in a black and blue two tone paint job to seal the deal! I can’t wait to see it hit the Las Vegas streets this fall. Nothing better then to see your friends take the passion they have and make it come to life. I look forward to seeing him and his team from Big Oak Garage shine again this year at SEMA on that red carpet. See ya in Vegas guys!!

Just like my friends at Flamin 8 Speed Shop. From the looks of it, they have been busy getting the beast ready for the ROAD TO SEMA 2017 also. Stripping the front clip down, mounting it to the cab of the hauler they picked for the build off. They even got a little help from, Lucas Evans. A US Marine leading a hand to get the hauler cleaned up and ready to join the rest of the build. How fitting for TEAM USA to have a real American solider getting his hands dirty supporting them along on this adventure! Just goes to show all it takes to hit the ground running on something that's sure to be a life long memory for us all. One day we will sit back a laugh about all the bumps and bruises it takes to hit the big top! Until then looks like Jeramie and his team are sitting back enjoying some ice cream. Surely plotting what's next as they get ready for ROAD TO SEMA 2017. To be continued.... XOXO

The safety of your street rod is of vital importance. If the street rod does not meet a certain set of guidelines, an accident can cause more than just replacing the parts. The NSRA or National Street Rod Association is the organization doing the safety inspections. Keep in mind that these safety inspections are completely voluntary. In most cases, safety inspections can be done at many of the street rod shows around the country. Generally, when a safety inspection is done, it is good for one year.

September 8, 9, 10, 2017. This will be the 31st time the NSRA Street Rod Nationals North has been held in Kalamazoo and an all time high number of participants and spectators are expected this year. Almost all of the Kalamazoo County Fairgrounds will be utilized for the event as well as many of the buildings, which will house a large number of manufacturer and dealer displays and other attractions. The host organization, NSRA, defines a street rod as a modernized vintage vehicle that is of pre 1949 manufacture. These vehicles are equipped with the latest options available on the newest model vehicles, including but not limited to disc brakes, air conditioning, cruise control, and tilt steering wheel. Most of those attending have updated the engine and drive train to enable the owner to cruise down the highway in comfort and safely maintain the speeds traveled by more modern vehicles. Included in this event are muscle cars, those factory produced high horsepower machines from the 60’s and 70’s along with the classics cars of the 50’s. This is truly unique mix of old and new together for the first time at Kalamazoo County Fairgrounds and a national gathering of fine vintage automobiles of every description. The NSRA Street Rod Nationals North is the area’s largest automotive participation event and spectators from around the area will attend the event. This would be a show to put on to do list. It would be over 3500 miles to go from one end to the other. Maybe next year we will try to do this. If you want to travel to the next show, the 24th North East Street Rod Nationals will be held September 15-17 at Champlain Valley Exposition in Burlington, Vermont. I am sure traveling to the two shows would make September pass quickly.

Big Money—Bad or Good? I recently received a letter complimenting StreetScene for our coverage of the recent Detroit Autorama. It went on to say, “Funny how the article on the Ridler-winning “Renaissance” roadster did not mention how much the owners had to pay Steve’s Auto Restoration to “buy” the award.” I’ve written about this topic several times in the past, but it seems to keep raising its ugly head, probably because people tend to envy those who seem to have more. Regardless, if people have worked hard to elevate themselves into financial success or inherited their wealth, the fact of life is some people just have more disposable income than others. For those of us who’ve been in this hobby of old cars for over half a century we can remember how things were in the early days. In the ‘50s and ‘60s building an old car from the ground up was something only a lucky few could accomplish. Most parts we used came straight from the junkyard. Compared to today, there were very few specialized shops that could perform custom work so the cars had a tendency to be only as good as the owners’ abilities, talent and sometimes horse trading skills. In the early ‘70s street rodding started to take off, in part because rodders discovered the thrill of driving long distances to attend outdoor car shows far from home. In the earlier days there were many events, but they tended to be smaller, local car club picnics and local friends gathering. Seeing more and more of these cool old cars cruising around also captured the imagination of people that wanted to join in the fun, but didn’t have the wherewithal to build one of their own. These eventual enthusiasts started searching out small shops that could do all or some of the work for them. Professional shops started popping up and more and more guys started realizing they could make a living building cars for others. But as the rodding movement grew, so did a host of small, enterprising manufacturers offering parts specifically designed to make converting an old car into upgraded, reliable and safe transportation. This appealed to a much larger group of people that could actually see their way to trying to build an old car even though they may not have had all the skills to make everything themselves. As we entered the ‘80s the parts availability grew and they became better as time marched on. So did the builders and some of them began attracting customers with deep pockets so they were only limited by their creativity. Lil’ John Buttera and Boyd Coddington were some of the early builders working out of their home shops that not only attracted some of these well-to-do customers, but also had the vision and design skills to start trends that have had a huge impact in our rodding world. But these “high dollar” projects had nothing to do with individuals and craftsmen working out of their home garages and building some of the most notable hot rods to ever come out of a shop. During the ‘90s and right on up to today the quality has continued rising and some of the most prolific builders and their teams seem to get younger as the years go by. The author of the letter also claimed he was able to help a fellow rodder in the early ‘80s build a vehicle in a two-car backyard garage that not only won the “Ridler,” but went on to take the top prize in the ISCA finals in Las Vegas.” My response to this is that the same opportunity still exists today, controlled only by the builder’s design, talent and execution—not mega dollars! Sure everything has escalated in price, even more so if a customer hires all aspects of a car’s build out to a shop, but I’ve been judging car shows for years, including the “AMBR” award, the Starbird “Go For the Gold” and numerous other ones and I can tell you none of these awards are for sale. I’ve seen numerous mega-dollar efforts fall flat on their face in the award circles and I’ve seen plenty of homebuilt cars get their owner’s efforts recognized, too. To all the young builders and owners out there all I can say is “Dream Big!” The opportunities still exist and it has nothing to do with how much money you throw into the project. Creativity and skill have always been the leading factor in our hobby! —

And the Winner Is! From humble beginnings in Indianapolis, Indiana, in 1977, with 1300 cars attending, the Street Machine Nationals is now a “busting at the seams” phenomenon of amazing Street Machines drawing 100,000 spectators. The General Tire Street Machine Nationals drew thousands of cars to the Duquoin Illinois State Fairgrounds on June 2325, 2017. Here is a brief story of one truck and builder/owner, Quint Walberts, who attended the 34th Annual General Tire DuQuoin Street Machine Nationals. In 2001, Quint turned a 1985 Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck into a high end Pro-Street machine. Fabricating the shaved and painted firewall was a major challenge but necessary to showcase the 355 ci engine with nitrous and the smoothed and color matching block. This show truck has so many unique modifications that I do not have the space to address them all. I will mention a few of them. The chassis which was designed and built by Quint has the original frame on the front half of the truck that has been boxed and is attached to a tube rear half of the truck. There are Wilwood disk brakes with line lock on all four of the Billet Specialty wheels with Hoosier racing tires. The transmission is a 400, with a manual valve body, and a 4,000 RPM stall converter. It features a 9” Ford narrowed rear end with 4:56 Ring and Pinion. This is just touching the surface of the number of modifications on this Pro-Street customized truck. The custom paint and graphics are Quint Walbert’s own creation. This Pro-Street truck was judged the Grand Champion Truck at the 2012 Street Machine Nationals in Springfield, MO, the highest achievement possible at their event. It was awarded the Truck Grand Champion (again the highest possible award for a truck) at the 2017, 34th Annual General Tire Duquoin Street Machine Nationals on June 25th. This Truck has taken top awards in Super Chevy, ISCA, and other professionally judged events in the U.S. and Canada. I think we can all agree that Quint Walberts knows what the judges like and how to build it. I have a feeling some of his competitors would like him to retire! I am just joshing you, Quint. He owns and operates Kustom Kolors in Avon, Indiana. One would be hard pressed to find a more talented or a kinder man. Quint puts the amazing talent he possesses into every build, whether it is his own car or a one of a kind champion for someone else. He has built a veritable parade of high quality show cars for his appreciative customers, many of them winning major awards. Every build is spectacular! Congratulations Quint on another well-deserved trophy. This S-10 is timeless. Championship Street Machines are neither beautiful nor ugly until they win, then they are beautiful.

The Miller High Life lady She’s one of the most famous advertising icons of the past century, yet she remains an enigma. The Miller High Life Girl in the Moon has come to represent both the brand, and the company that created her. Beer drinkers had their first taste of Miller High Life Beer on December 30, 1903; perhaps this proximity to New Year’s led to its being called the “Champagne of Bottle Beer” (now the Champagne of Beers). Soon after its release, the beer was advertised with a drawing of a woman in what looked like a circus costume, standing on a wooden High Life crate holding a tray of High Life Beer. Her whip and tall hat resembled a circus trainer or ringmaster. In 1907, a change was made to the Miller Lady that created an enduring icon for the brand. She was placed on a crescent moon, complete with the whip and a bottle of High Life in her outstretched arm. According to company legend, A.C. Paul, Miller’s advertising manager, was alone in the northwoods of Wisconsin—lost by one account—when he had a crystal-clear vision of the High Life Girl perched on the crescent moon. What’s not known is exactly how his vision became the actual Girl in the Moon shown in Miller advertising. Over the years, different branches of the Miller family have claimed various ancestors as the model, but none have been proven to be that lady. Recent research by family members of Illinois artist Thomas Holmes has turned up promising leads regarding his work in this area. Because of grain shortages in World War II, in 1944 Miller Brewing Company president Elise John eliminated every brand except High Life, cut the advertising budget and pulled Miller out of seventeen states. Consumers rewarded this decision by choosing Miller over cheaper beers, and it confirmed Miller’s reputation for quality. At this same time, the appearance of the Miller Girl in the Moon was changed—to a woman facing forward, looking directly at the consumer. Later, the Girl in the Moon disappeared from Miller High Life bottles and cans for a while, but she was brought back in 1998 and has remained there ever since. It’s hard to imagine that bottled beer used to be kind of a rarity. But at the turn of the 20th century, most folks drank beer in a saloon or took it home from the bar in a bucket. Bright, bubbly beer in a bottle was more of a luxury, like Champagne. So when Miller High Life was introduced in 1903, Miller Brewing Co. (now part of MillerCoors) made sure that connection was clear — starting with the bottle. High Life has almost always come in a Champagne-shaped bottle with sloping shoulders. The bottle — the same style used today — is primarily what led to the nickname “The Champagne of Beers,” says Charlie Hosale, archivist at the MillerCoors brewery in Milwaukee. The glass has always been clear to show off the beer’s purity and help establish it as a high-end brand. (High Life was more expensive than many brands back in the day.) “Also, at various times throughout its history and especially early on, High Life had ornate foil that covered the cap and top of the neck — similar to the way Champagne is sold,” Charlie says. High Life even had a festive launch date — just before New Year’s Eve, on Dec. 30, 1903.

MotorSports Picks A Winner We pulled into the Grand Ol' Opry Hotel in Nashville Tennessee to attend this years Nashville Boogie Weekender in my 1965 VW Bug. This was my 2nd year to attend this event, yet it holds a lot of first’s for me as well. My first BIG car show that my Cherry Bomb has been on display at. Along with my first time to set up a booth for the magazine in this type of arena. This is all starting to feel like the real deal and I'm so excited to be here!! Now that my Motorsports Pit Stop booth is ready to go and my Cherry Bomb is all shined up and ready for her debut. I head out to meet and greet all our friends, vendors and promoters of this weekend. While making a few new friends along the way as well. Seeing a few of the Tennessee VooDoo Kings, gathering at the entrance. I stroll over to speak and give praise to these hard working guys & gals. Knowing Jon and Tina West, are the driving force behind the car show part of this amazing weekend. I spoke to them about the new lay out of this years event, along with some subtle changes that they have made. Making the car show more enjoyable and easier to move around in. I noticed the number of vehicles rolling on to the show room floor on day one, I already know this part of the Nashville Boogie has grown into a much larger car show then last year. As we arrived on day two, cars were lining up outside, waiting to enter the Grand Ol' Opry Hotel. I see Jon & Tina and all the Tennessee VooDoo Kings pulling cars in as fast as they could. I spoke up letting them know I'm more then willing to help if needed. And they took me up on that offer!!! They asked me if the magazine wanted to be apart of the awards ceremony next year. Bringing a trophy for MotorSports Best in Show pick! "Why next year?" was my reply. I have 24 hours to pull something off for this year if you need us. And they did. You know the more the merrier they say! So, I hit the floor running looking for just the right thing to turn into a trophy. I loved the challenge of making a trophy out of nothing, as my wheels are turning I knew just what I wanted. I was more excited about the trophy then having to pick just ONE of the amazing vehicles here to give it to. Excited about getting the
Magazines name out to hundreds of people, on a stage at the Grand Ol' Opry didn't hit me until much later! (omg) So after speaking with Jimbo and gathering all I needed to make this happen, I was up to the challenge. As I went on my hunt for the just the rite vehicle, knowing what I was looking for. I wanted something different, not only in color but style and craftsmanship. I wanted something built not bought!! Something drove, not trailed in. Something simple, but that stood out from the rest of the pack! I was sending Jimbo pictures from my phone along the way, he was at a car show in Florida, and I talked to several people listening to the stories it took for them to get here. We narrowed it down to 2 trucks... yes a truck! Talk about something different, just what I was looking for! Jimbo allowing me to pick the winner was a honor and I was full of pride to get to do so! As everyone was gathering for the awards ceremony, my heart was pounding. I'm really standing in the Grand Ol' Opry Hotel at the Nashville Boogie Weekend 2017 about to give a trophy to the winner we picked. Representing Gulf Coast Motorsport Magazine!! Someone pinch me, is this really happening?!?! Jon West was on stage and thanked everyone, praised everyone for the hard work it takes to pull something like this off. And then it was time to announce all the winners. Jon started with my introduction telling everyone my name and that I was with Gulf Coast MotorSports Magazine. I then was able to hand over this amazing pinstriped boot to the winner. The boot was stuffed with a year subscription to our magazine, a t -shirt and a cold beer in a Gulf Coast MotorSports koozy. heard us call his name, he was standing along side his son, friends and car club members. The excitement from the announcement was a joyful moment that I was proud to be apart of. Knowing we picked a winner that was humbled and grateful was just a bonus! I picked Brad's 1955 First Series truck for a couple of reasons. We had seen him along with his wife Shana in line earlier on this hot muggy day, waiting to enter the building. I spoke to them asking how the drive was getting into town.? Learning it took almost 3 hours for them to arrive. Knowing then it was a driver and not trailered in. The color of this truck was one that's always stood out in my opinion. A soft cream color that went well with the darker tans in the bed liner and interior of the truck. Mixed with the red dash and subtle pinstipping and just enough chrome to make it shine. The Fat Hula Dancer on the dash caught my eye as if to say, “this was the one!!” I've had my eye on this one for sometime now, after seeing this truck before at this same show last year. Today I noticed a few changes, and only after speaking with Brad I knew I was right. Brad told me that only 30 days before heading to the Nashville Boogie this year. He decided to make some changes, a little risky decision being only a few weeks out from the event. After owning the truck for 12 years now, he was ready for a few changes this time around and had a long list in mind. As he starting working on his truck in his own basement. ( built not bought) He was well into the projects he wanted to make gearing up for car show season. As he is way into the make over with no turning back now. Brad's back went out!!! He couldn't move, walk, more less work on his truck that in a complete mess at this point. But with the help and support from his friend and car enthusiast, Brad Terry and working 4 and 5 days a week after work to make it all come together. They were able to make it to the show just in time. What a difference was made in such a short period of time. Trust me the passion, skill and work done came out very well as it hit the show room floor. Recovering from his back issues and joining other members from the VooDoo Kings Kustom Car Club of Alabama. They all headed 65 north to Nashville ready for a great weekend of music, cars and fellowship with friends and family. I’ll tell you like I have before this should be on THE BUCKET LIST of events you shouldn't miss! XoXo

WHAT IS YOUR PSA NUMBER? Normally I write about car events, but this month it will be about the human event. Most classic car cruisers are in the 50+ age and are men. If you are approaching 50 or over 50 you need to know what your PSA number is, if you get regular blood work done, nothing will change, it's just an added test. Bring it up to your doctor and it can be added to what they test for, but please know your number. The lower the number the better, but anything above 4.0 is considered a candidate for biopsy. The biopsy is the real test to see what is really happening inside the prostate. They take 12 samples from all around inside the prostate. You want to find any cancer while it is contained in the prostate and if you do the success rate is 90 to 100%. But you first need to know your number. If you can't give me your number, please start the process to find out. My breathing problems at night while sleeping started all this and I'm happy it did. I was waking up grasping for air in the middle of the night. The ENT (ear, nose & throat) doctor said I needed to get my deviated septum repaired, so I went looking for the best nose doctor I could find for a rhinoplasty. I found him at Ochsner's Hospital in New Orleans, Dr Devon Graham is the head of the Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Department at Ochsner's and is really good at nose jobs. In the meantime my regular doctor, Dr Sean Kirby wants me to have the prostate biopsy done while I'm off my blood thinners. I had to come off blood thinners at least five days before and five days after the surgery. So after the nose surgery I had packing in my nose, (very uncomfortable). The packing was taken out 6 days after surgery (thank you Lord) and on the 7th day I had the prostate biopsy. On most of these deals the hardest part is getting the IV. After I awoke from the biopsy, I was given a written prescription for pain and an antibiotic. I was already on antibiotics for my nose and strong pain pills, so I went home instead of getting the additional medication, big mistake! A day and a half later I get fever, confusion, dizziness and I know I'm in trouble. I get to the doctor's office, tell him what I did and he takes one look at me and puts me back in the hospital to get me on some IV antibiotics. He said if I had waited another day, it would have been a big problem. Different antibiotics were needed besides what I was taking already and I decided to play doctor. While I was in the hospital the doctor got back the results of my prostate biopsy, cancer, the word you never want to hear. Prostate cancer is in my family, so it did not come as a shock, well it's always a shock, but I was kinda prepared for it. One family member had their surgery performed by a local doctor, that doctor let an underling (trainee) actually perform the surgery and the results were not good, so I knew I had to find a good doctor, one that had performed this delicate surgery many times with good results. After shopping the Southeast, I found Dr Stephen Bardot at Ochsner's New Orleans. Steve has performed this de Vinci Robot surgery over 3,500 times with good results and great reviews. First thing I asked him, are you and only you doing my surgery? Yes I will be driving he said. They scheduled an MRI first! On the first MRI attempt I took nothing to relax me, thought I would

just man up. Well they got the IV started on the fourth attempt, second person! They got me inside the MRI machine...I said very matter of factly. "Get me outa here Right Now!" So a few days later they booked me for 7 pm Friday night scan (last chance before the surgery on Monday morning) with a nurse that was going to give something to relax me. I thought I was getting The Michael Jackson sleepy drug Propofol, but oh no, I find out it's just a little something to make me feel good in my IV, Versed! Well they gave me the Versed shot in the IV and I was gone. The only problem was I woke up 20 minutes into a 60 minute scan. I said "I'm back, can you give me more to knock me back out?" They said no, you've had all you can get! For 40 longggg minutes I had to talk to myself. This was the worst part of surgery for me a claustrophobic. I've been afraid of tight places since scuba diving caves brought me to face to face with it back in the eighties. Check out Jerry Clower's great bit on YouTube.com entitled "My MRI" pretty much sums up my feelings about future MRI's! They are inhumane! I was concerned before my surgery if we had caught the cancer before it had gotten out of the prostate. (if you catch cancer while just in the prostate, cure rate is 90-100%) I have known people that had cancer and once that cancer was cut on, such as a biopsy‌ the cancer went crazy! So I'm nervous about what my MRI results were. The morning of my surgery I noticed a knot on the left side of my groin and I'm thinking oh no, this can't be good! So the Doc comes in before the surgery and I couldn't ask him fast enough what the MRI had told him. He said everything looked great on the MRI. Then I told him about the goose egg on the left side of my groin, that had by then‌ gone down. He mashed around on it and said he would look at it during surgery and let me know. My surgery did not begin until almost noon, I didn't wake up until 9 pm that night in my private room. When I woke up my granddaughter had already gone back to Mississippi with the grandkids. So I woke up alone, hurting from fresh surgery wounds, my mouth was dry as a bone and could not find my nurses call button. So I started hollering for help. A visitor in a nearby room heard me and came to see what was wrong. The lady found my nurses call button, buried in all my cover and so the nurses then came and took care of me. I had after the surgery what I called my six bullet holes in my stomach, felt like it too. The next morning they get me up walking. Later, the doctor comes in and said everything went perfect; looks like the cancer had not made it out of the prostate. He also said you have a hernia on the left side. (What I saw and felt right before surgery. I had the right side repaired about 10 years ago.) He said you got to stop picking up heavy stuff!
www.GulfCoastMotorSports.com
How many times do we worry over nothing? I give God and all the fantastic doctors and nurses at Ochsner's NOLA all the praise! My entry wounds have healed up so well I don't think I'll have much of any scars. Years ago this surgery was performed with a single incision from naval to rectum with a year of healing time. Ten days you're over this surgery, but wear out pretty quick. Six weeks and I was good to go. If you need to have something serious done medically, research it and find the best, most experienced in that field to do your work! The pathological report came back about a week after surgery and was all clear. I will require no chemo, no radiation, just heal up and get well. There are some serious side effects to this surgery, but they are very treatable and life is a precious thing. Before ending this column and this subject matter, I do want to address an alternate treatment to prostate removal. I don't think it's the right way to go, but it is an option. That option is to have radiation pellets implanted in the prostate. According to Dr Stephen Bardot at Ochsner's it is very effective at killing the cancer that is there. However if the cancer pops up again you are done. Most doctors will not remove the prostate after pellets because of the huge amount of scar material that is left behind in the prostate. Ochsner's will remove the prostate after the pellets but the outcome is total impotence. I have known people to die with the decision of going with the pellets. The surgery is the way to go I believe with the best doctor you can find! Do you know your "PSA" number? I am told that 100% of men will get prostate cancer if they live long enough! If you get it at 75 you'll probably die of old age before it gets you. Know your PSA number, please, please!!!

By Candy Cocktail Skincare is always good to spend some time on. With hectic everyday life, it can easily get forgotten about and not made a priority until your skin gets irritated or your hands end up chapped and red. By that time, getting your skin back to normal cannot be done with a simple one time application. It is important to keep skin healthy not just for a flawless complexion and anti-aging abilities, but unfortunately it needs to become a regular routine for ultimate benefits. If you have chronically dry skin or get ultra cracked, chapped hands from cold weather and other life factors, it can be hard to find enough moisture for your skin. As someone with ultra-sensitive skin, I realize first hand how even the slightest lapse in moisturization or the first cool day of winter can wreak havoc on my skin. Even this summer, I have found myself with red, cracked, bleeding and extremely dry hands. I also wash my hands constantly which adds to the painful dryness. This issue of severe dehydration and hand eczema is very common for healthcare professionals due to constant hand washing during a shift. Other occupations and lifestyles increase the need for hand washing, such as for the parents of sick children during cold and flu season. While online looking for a better routine to heal my hands and some good ways to swap chapped for soft, I came across some great tips and recipes for healthier skin. I have tried many remedies, from hand lotions to body butter, baby oil to Vaseline, and nothing worked miracles for my skin. I am always willing to be the beauty guinea pig, so I tried some of these myself and was impressed with the results. For me, applying Eucerin daily offered the best results. The key to restoring moisture into your skin is to make sure to use your moisturizer regularly. Moisturize DAILY for ultimate skin hydration! Hot showers strip the skin of its natural oils & hydration, so a cold or cooler shower is a great option. However, if you loathe a cold shower, be aware that your skin will need some extra moisture to restore what was lost. The number one cause of itchy skin is dry skin. Dry skin is caused by a lack of water content in the skin. Natural oils are produced by glands in the skin. However, these oils do not moisturize, they simply prevent water from evaporating out of the skin. Anything that removes natural skin oils, like harsh soaps or hot water, worsens the dry skin by allowing more water to evaporate out of it. Moisturizers DO NOT give moisture to skin, instead they only "lock-in" moisture already present. Thus, they work by reinforcing the action of the skin's own natural oils. The best way to replenish the water in the skin is by soaking in water, followed by immediate application of moisturizer to "lock-in" the water. Frequent baths or showers do not cause dry skin if you immediately apply a moisturizer. For treatment of dry, itchy and damaged skin, this is the dermatologist recommended regimen to adopt; Take a 20-minute daily, cool to warm (not hot) bath or shower. Hot water makes your skin’s oil break down faster and leads to a loss of moisture. A bath is preferable. Stay in the water until your fingertips are wrinkled. Pat dry with a towel. Do not rub dry. Immediately apply a moisturizer to your entire body while still damp. For optimum results, do not immediately dry off after you turn the shower water off. Instead keep your lotion nearby, and apply the lotion to WET skin within 3 minutes of turning the water off while the skin is still open. This will give you better results than applying even the best lotion to dry skin.

Moisturizers should be thick; If it pours from the bottle it is too thin. Later in the day, repeat the application of the moisturizer to the entire body without taking a shower or bath. A morning and evening regimen is best. Avoid Ivory soap and Vaseline Intensive Care. Dove, Oil of Olay, Cetaphil, Curel, Moisturel, Aquaphor, Lever 2000, Dial and Basis are all good soaps highly recommended by dermatologists. Dr. Oz's DIY skin scrub recipe: You do not need a fancy scrub to slough away dead skin cells. This scrub uses just three ingredients and will have your entire body feeling smoother and softer after one shower. Ingredients · 1 cup sea salt or brown sugar · 1-2 tbsp lavender essential oil · 1/2 cup Eucerin Advanced Repair lotion Directions Combine sea salt (or brown sugar if your skin is very sensitive), lavender (which has soothing properties to alleviate stress and promote better sleep) or your favorite essential oil, and Eucerin Advanced Repair, which is clinically proven to 48-hour moisture and immediate dry relief for dry, itchy, rough and flaky skin. Scrub on dry skin pre-shower or wet skin in the shower for one minute and rinse off. Other tips for trying to prevent the skin irritation before it starts, are to try to reduce wet work as much as possible, avoid using soaps, shower gels or bubble baths (in short, anything that bubbles up or has a fragrance besides an essential oil), use soap substitutes instead (such as aqueous cream) and use emollients (moisturizers) after every hand wash and at least 3 to 4 times a day. Stay away from water as much as possible; think of it as liquid acid to your chapped hands and only wash when necessary. When you do wash, try washing just the palms and not the backs of your hands which have thinner skin that is more prone to drying out. Momswhothink.com also suggested staying away from hand dryers. The hot-air models will not help with your dry, cracking skin. Air dry or towel dry whenever possible.

There are both external and internal triggers that can transform skin from dry and flaky to an itchy, red rash. External triggers like allergens and irritants may make contact with your skin and start a flare-up. Internal triggers like food allergies and stress may cause an increase in inflammation in the body which leads to a bad rash. When you make contact with physical irritants, your skin may immediately start to itch or burn and turn red. There are many common household and environmental irritants that may trigger flare ups including wool, synthetic fibers, soaps, dry air, low humidity, exposure to harmful chemicals, pollens, mold, animal dander, detergents, cleaning supplies, dust and sand, food allergies and cigarette smoke. If you think these physical items can cause a reaction for you, launder fabrics more frequently and vacuum daily. A sunburn is another factor that will cause inflammation and almost certainly lead to a flare-up. During times of stress, the body responds by increasing inflammation. Other treatments for dry chapped hands from positivemed.com are opting for homemade ingredients to take the place of a store-bought moisturizer. Beeswax is one of the best skin protectors out there as it is very effective and can be found without any perfumes or scents. If you want a homemade skin moisturizer, honey is a great natural remedy. Try mixing a tablespoon of honey with half a mashed avocado and a little milk in a bowl, then apply and leave on for ten minutes. Doing this twice a week can help keep your face hydrated and healthy. Honey acts as a natural moisturizer. Its antimicrobial and humectants effects help keep your skin moisturized, smooth, and soft. Additionally, honey helps delay aging symptoms. All you need to do is rub a little honey on the skin of your entire hands and let it stand for about ten minutes. Later, rinse it off using lukewarm water. Keep coconut oil or your favorite hydrating moisturizer in several places around the house that are within eyesight and easy to get to, this will help make moisturizing a habit throughout the day. Over-the-counter skin treatments are categorized by their abilities to moisturize, soothe and protect damaged skin. Some essential ingredients for skin care are shea butter, petroleum jelly, glycerin and lanolin. Lanolin soothes irritated skin and can ease the pain of cracked skin, particularly around the knuckles. Glycerin and shea butter infuse deep into the skin to restore dried-out cells, and aloe is so successful at healing and soothing dried-out or damaged skin that it is often used to treat burns, including sunburn. Petroleum jelly protects skin from further environmental damage by blocking outside elements from entering the skin and preventing any water from leaving the cells. Remember those old playtex rubber gloves that you used to see senior women and 40s housewives using when they washed the dishes? Well they were on to something! Wearing gloves protects your hands when cleaning or doing dishes. They can keep your hands not only soft, but free of farther irritants like soap, water and cleaning products that lead to dehydration. Channel the 40s housewife when washing dishes!

Protect hands by wearing super soft, fuzzy moisture gloves to bed, (like the kind that Bath & Body Works sells) or for any dishwashing or food prep. Avoid hot water and detergent-based cleansers both around the home and in your laundry. The website makeandtakes.com offered a few more cures and good recommendations for rough cracked hands. Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream is good but really only for everyday use. While not as hard core as other products to relieve majorly damaged hands, it is good for kids because you can put it on their hands at night and it is mild enough that it does not sting their hands the way some lotions can. Aquaphor Ointment is ideal to soothe and rejuvenate hands, but it is VERY greasy, so wear gloves or stick with something more mild if you do not want to get the oil in your bed. Burt’s Bees really puts those bees to work to make a great moisturizer. The purple hand repair cream is recommended since it smells fabulous. Eucerin Intensive Hand Cream: This one is great because it is not too oily, so you can wear it throughout the day, as well as night. In my trials of different hand moisturizers, I tried petroleum jelly, coconut oil and chapstick to replenish the moisture to my hands. None of these worked for me, appearing to make no difference at all, but I think they are worth mentioning because some things work better on different people. When getting a pedicure, it is best not to get the scraping done on your feet. This only increases the need to do it. Instead, opt for an ultra moisturizing paraffin treatment if your salon offers it. Below are a few more home remedies for dry rough hands from the remedies and herbs website: Yogurt is an effective hydrating agent that treats rough and dry skin of your hand substantially. The lactic acid in the yogurt acts as a natural cleanser and exfoliating agent, and it helps eliminate dead skin cells effectively. All you need to do is apply fresh yogurt on your hand and massage them for about five minutes . Rinse them off by using warm water. Follow this daily to have soft hands. Oatmeal is an effective healer of rough hands by acting as a natural exfoliate and cleansing agent. The high protein content in the oatmeal prevents the loss of water from your skin and helps keep your hands moisturized. Prepare a mixture of two tablespoons of ground oatmeal, some water, and one teaspoon of honey. Add fresh lime juice and rub the mixture on your dry and rough hands. Let it stand for ten minutes and rinse it off. The natural moisturizing effects of Aloe Vera help retain moisture in the skin of your hands. It develops a protective layer on your hands and promotes the skin tone to a great extent.
Milk cream is a rich source of fats that work as a natural moisturizer for your rough and dry hands. The lactic acid in the milk cream even aids in exfoliating your dry skin and helps maintain pH levels of your skin. All you need to do is rub some fresh milk cream on your dry hands and let it stand for about ten minutes. Rinse it off using lukewarm water. Olive oil is a favorite moisturizer for those of Mediterranean descent, and with good reason. It is rich in beneficial antioxidants and fatty acids, helping you have soft, moisturized, and supple skin. Olive oil offers you many anti-aging skin benefits as well. All you need to do is massage your hand with warm olive oil for about five to ten minutes two times every day. Lemon juice is a natural skin cleansing agent that treats rough hands and helps you have smooth and soft hands. Fresh lime juice helps enhance the skin tone and mitigate skin spots or blemishes on your hands. All you need to do is mix equal amounts of honey, baking soda, and lemon juice for some time and apply the mixture on your hands. Let it stand for about five minutes and then wash it off using warm water. Follow this twice every week to have healthy, soft hands. Overripe bananas help moisturize your hands’ skin and treat fine lines and spots on your hands. Mash one overripe banana, make a thick remedial paste, apply the paste on your hands, and let it stand for half an hour. Wash off your hands in lukewarm water. The high vitamin and monounsaturated fats content in avocados help treat dry hands effectively. Prepare a paste by mixing a teaspoon of honey and one ripe avocado. Put it on your hands and leave it for about ten minutes. Rinse it off with water. Follow this 3 to 4 times every week to have soft hands. Just in time for the cool weather that will soon be here, these tips and remedies will keep your skin hydrated in even the toughest of environments and every day activities.

Hey hey hey and cockadoodle doo!!!! The Rooster has missed y’all! I hope everyone is happy and in good health!!!! Well the Rooster made thru Hole-in-your-seat!!! It all started well. Me and my boy headed out and stopped at Wal-Mart. The transmission was pouring out on the ground..I tried to fix it right there in the parking lot in the rain!!! There was no fixing. And little did I know I had a heating problem. I would find out about later!!! So I made a quick decision and hauled it!! We got there early Thursday morning..I dropped off the Ratbuster at Matt Grooves shop and then headed off to get the tattoo that saved the roosters life!!!! The rooster tattoo !! A guy named Adam Washer in Tennessee was going to do it and man did I have to get tough,... cause that shit hurt lol. After that was done I headed back to Matts to fix the Ratbuster!! Matt and a buddy of mine they call Snake helped me make a gasket. And bamm!! tranny fixed...even tho I got spider bit again!!!! The next day, Saturday, me and Matt headed to Lake Tansi where Mason Dixons Hole-in-your-seat Car Chow was. I pulled in got my spot and settled in. It was a very good show.. They made the Rooster feel right at home. Fans took pictures and I signed 100's of autographs. Made a lot of new friends. All in all I recommend the show. After the show we went on a cruise. I want talk about that... but it seems I had the only real old chassis, cause I couldn't keep up. They was flying!!!! Anyways had a great time. I always look forward to meeting new people in this the greatest country in the world!!!!! America. And I just want to tell all the people that read this that I love y’all...till next time. The Rooster!!!!!! Cockadoodle doo!!!!!
1. I changed my car horn to gunshot sounds. People get out of the way much faster now. 2. Gone are the days when girls used to cook like their mothers. Now they drink like their fathers. 3. You know that "thingy" little feeling you get when you really like someone? That's common sense leaving your body. 4. I decided to stop calling the bathroom the "John" and renamed it the "Jim" I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning. 5. Old age is coming at a really bad time. When I was a child I thought "nap time" was a punishment. Now, as a grownup, it feels like a small vacation. 6. The biggest lie I tell myself is..."I don't need to write that down, I'll remember it." 7. I don't have gray hair; I have "wisdom highlights." I'm just very wise. 8. Teach your daughter how to shoot, because a restraining order is just a piece of paper. 9 If God wanted me to touch my toes, He would have placed them on my knees. 10. Why do I have to press one for English when you're just going to transfer me to someone I can't understand anyway? 11. Of course I talk to myself; sometimes I need expert advice. 12. At my age, "getting lucky" means walking into a room and actually remembering what I came in there for. 13. I am what is called a "seenager" (senior teenager). I have everything that I wanted as a teenager, only 60 years later. I don't have to go to school or work. I get an allowance every month. I have my own pad I don't have a curfew. I have a driver's license and my own car. I have an ID that gets me into bars and the whiskey store. The people I hang around with are not scared of getting pregnant.

www.gunsafetyrules.nra.org At the NRA, firearm education and safety is paramount—that’s why we offer a variety of programs and services to promote the safe handling, use and storage of firearms. Whether you’re a parent in search of information about firearm safety in the home, a first-time gun owner, or an old pro looking to brush up on your firearm handling skills, the NRA is here to keep you and your family safe. Explore NRA’s fundamental rules of gun safety, as well as information how to safely store a gun and good cleaning practices. Know your target and what is beyond. Be absolutely sure you have identified your target beyond any doubt. Equally important, be aware of the area beyond your target. This means observing your prospective area of fire before you shoot. Never fire in a direction in which there are people or any other potential for mishap. Think first. Shoot second. Know how to use the gun safely. Before handling a gun, learn how it operates. Know its basic parts, how to safely open and close the action and remove any ammunition from the gun or magazine. Remember, a gun's mechanical safety device is never foolproof. Nothing can ever replace safe gun handling. Be sure the gun is safe to operate. Just like other tools, guns need regular maintenance to remain operable. Regular cleaning and proper storage are a part of the gun's general upkeep. If there is any question concerning a gun's ability to function, a knowledgeable gunsmith should look at it.
Never use alcohol, over-the-counter drugs or prescription drugs before or while shooting. Alcohol, as well as any other substance likely to impair normal mental or physical bodily functions, must not be used before or while handling or shooting guns. Store guns so they are not accessible to unauthorized persons. Many factors must be considered when deciding where and how to store guns. A person's particular situation will be a major part of the consideration. Dozens of gun storage devices, as well as locking devices that attach directly to the gun, are available. However, mechanical locking devices, like the mechanical safeties built into guns, can fail and should not be used as a substitute for safe gun handling and the observance of all gun-safety rules. Additional Safety Precautions Be aware that certain types of guns and many shooting activities require additional safety precautions.
Use only the correct ammunition for your gun.
Cleaning
Only BBs, pellets, cartridges or shells designed for a particular gun can be fired safely in that gun. Most guns have the ammunition type stamped on the barrel. Ammunition can be identified by information printed on the box and sometimes stamped on the cartridge. Do not shoot the gun unless you know you have the proper ammunition.
Regular cleaning is important in order for your gun to operate correctly and safely. Taking proper care of it will also maintain its value and extend its life. Your gun should be cleaned every time that it is used.
Wear eye and ear protection as appropriate.
A gun brought out of prolonged storage should also be cleaned before shooting. Accumulated moisture and dirt, or solidified grease and oil, can prevent the gun from operating properly.
Guns are loud and the noise can cause hearing damage. They can also emit debris and hot gasses that could cause eye injury. For these reasons, shooting glasses and hearing protection should be worn by shooters and spectators.
Before cleaning your gun, make absolutely sure that it is unloaded. The gun's action should be open during the cleaning process. Also, be sure that no ammunition is present in the cleaning area.
