Many times it’s not big things that are keeping us from God’s best, it’s not some big sin, some big mistake, it’s small things. First Peter 3:10 says, “If you want to enjoy life and see good things, then say nothing evil or hurtful.” I wonder how much higher we would go if we would not have to have the last word, not have to be right, not have to make a scene but just quietly keep honoring God, being respectful, and staying on the high road. …… Joel Osteen Cruizin’ in the passin’ lane By: Jimbo Geeeezzzz... I’m just recuperating from the Best Atomic Blast EVER in April, went back to my office-life and got the magazine out just in time to make the May print edition deadline was (April 21st.) In May I made a few cruise-in’s, and a couple drag races, but I have to admit Cruisin Cajun Country May 16-19 was the highlight of the month for me. I was looking for a roadtrip and this show didn’t disappoint me a all. 245 cars/trucks registered for this event. Hats off to this small group of volunteers who put together a very smooth running schedule of events, dinners and entertainment Wednesday, Thursday, Friday & Saturday. It wouldn’t be fair to sum up this event in just a few short paragraphs and a couple of pictures just to make the June deadline, so look for a Cruisin Cajun Country update and coverage in the July issue. But I’m making my plans for next years May 16,17,18 2019 Cruisin Cajun Country So here I am finishing up the magazine to send it to press tonight May 20. Hears a few emails…. Jimbo, I went to the liquor store Friday afternoon on my bicycle, bought a bottle of wine and put it in the bicycle basket. As I was about to leave, I thought to myself that if I fell off the bicycle, the bottle would break. So I drank all the wine before I cycled home. It turned out to be a very good decision, because I fell off my bicycle seven times on the way home. Dean Jimbo, Fontenot was driving his truck along the highway when another truck passed with some pigs in it. One of the pigs fell out. Fontenot stopped, picked it up, put it in the cab with him, and raced after the truck. A while later, Sheriff Thibodeaux pulled Fontenot over for speeding. "Fontenot,” Thibodeaux said, “what chu doin drivin so fast and what chu doin wit dat pig?"

Fontenot said, "A man passed by wit a truck fulla dem and dis one fell out. I was tryin to catch up wit da truck ta give da man his pig back." Sheriff Thibodeaux shook his head and said, "Dat man is long gone Fontenot. Why don't you just take dat pig to da zoo?" “OK” Fontenot replyed. A couple of days later Sheriff Thibodeaux saw Fontenot on the highway with the pig still in his truck. He stopped him and said, "Didn't I tell you to bring dat pig to da zoo?" Fontenot said, "Yeah, and I did. We had so much fun at da zoo dat I tink we gonna go to Disney World next." Brent B Jimbo, In 1971 our dad “Big Frank”, had a ‘68 Chevy Biscayne with a 235 Cubic inch inline 6 cylinder engine and 3 speed on the column. Our dad asked me and my older brother “Big Gary” to do a tune up on his car. When he went off to work, he thought we were going to do a regular tune up. Big Gary said, “Lets go Monk, we’re going to the speed shop, we’re going to surprise Dad.”

We did a hotrod tune up on his car to give it more horsepower and we put on a Cherry Bomb muffler glass pack. The first time our dad started the engine and heard how loud it was he knew something wasn’t right with his car. After he backed out of the driveway he put the car in first gear and hit the throttle. His car took off real fast and our dad was so shook his eyes were wide open. Me and Big Gary and our momma laughed. After he got use to the car he liked it. He thought he was “cool” like me and Big Gary. Monk Jimbo, If my body were a car, this is the time I would be thinking about trading it in for a newer model. I've got bumps and dents and scratches in my finish and my paint job is getting a little dull, but that's not the worst of it. My headlights are out of focus and it's especially hard to see things up close. My traction is not as graceful as it once was. I slip and slide and skid and bump into things even in the best of weather. My whitewalls are stained with varicose veins. It takes me hours to reach my maximum speed. My fuel rate burns inefficiently. But here's the worst of it -Almost every time I sneeze, cough or sputter.....either my radiator leaks or my exhaust backfires! tstauffer6@ Till next month …… Jimbo

1. Pull your droopy pants up. You look like an idiot. 2. Let's get this straight; it's called a "gravel road." I drive a pickup truck because I want to. No matter how slow you drive, you're going to get dust on your Lexus. Drive it or get out of the way. 3. They are cattle & oil wells. That's what they smell like to you. They smell like money to us. Get over it. Don't like it? I20 and I-10 go east and west, I-49 goes north and south. Pick one. 4. So you have a $60,000 car. We're impressed. We have $250,000 rice strippers that are driven only 3 times a year. 5. So every person in every pickup waves. It's called being friendly. Try to understand the concept. 6. If that cell phone rings while a bunch of doves are coming in, we WILL shoot it out of your hand. You better hope you don't have it up to your ear at the time. 7. Yeah, we eat catfish & crawfish and love it. You really want sushi & caviar? It's available at the corner bait shop. 8. The "Opener" refers to the first day of deer season. It's a religious holiday held the closest Saturday to the first of November. 9. We open doors for women. That is applied to all women, regardless of age. 10. No, there's no "vegetarian special" on the menu. Order steak. Or you can order the Chef's Salad and pick off the 2 pounds of ham & turkey. 11. When we fill out a table, there are three main dishes: meats, vegetables, and breads. We use three spices: Onion, Pepper, and Garlic! Oh, yeah.... We don't care what you folks in Cincinnati call that stuff you eat... It ain't real Jambalaya. Jambalaya was born and bred in Louisiana....and real Gumbo never met a tomato! 12. You bring "coke" into my house, it better be brown, wet, and served over ice. You bring "Mary Jane" into my house, she better be cute, know how to shoot, drive a truck, and have long hair. 13. College and High School Football is as important here as the Lakers and the Knicks, and a hell of a lot more fun to watch. 14. Yeah, we have golf courses. But don't hit the water hazards it spooks the fish. 15. Colleges? Try Louisiana Tech, NSU, ULL, or LSU. They come outta there with an education plus a love for God and country, and they still wave at passing pickups when they come for the holidays. 16. We have more folks per capita in the Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marines, than any other state, so don't screw with Louisiana. If you do, you will get whipped by the best. 17. Always remember what a great mind once said: "The United States wouldn't be what it is today if it had not been for Louisiana!" Louisiana is the greatest state ever!! If you are from Louisiana, you are one bad mutha!!!

kids loved it. That ol’ car was in a junkyard for 32 years, just sitting doing nothing. I got all the parts from the junkyard too, so I was damn proud of myself. That TR7 needed a 2nd chance and a 3rd. And it got it!! So here’s a little story; 18 years I gave a young man a chance. In the beginning we rode Harleys and worked on cars. Chased a few women, and got into a few fights….the rooster was 10 years older than him and I tried to help him anyway I could. But after a few years we had a falling out and didn’t hangout any more. Shortly after that he got in trouble with the law and had to do a stretch in in state. When he got out the rooster was there and we started riding bikes and messing with cars again. Hell I was even best man at his wedding. Everything was kool and I was glad to have one of my bros back. A few years went by and then it happened. The Budweisers happened. And I had no clue. Next thing I knew he was getting a devoice. I let him move into my rental. But damn that didn’t work cause he wasn’t doing right. He didn’t care at the time and left...well needless to say he got into some trouble again and was sentenced to two years. Well somewhere in the middle I went and seen him..and we talked and he seemed sincere that he had changed. So okay here we are 5 years latter and we are friends and brothers again! 1st chance, 2nd chance, 3rd & 4th chance people can work to make things right!!! All I’m saying is... people, cars, motorcycles, etctra. deserve a 2nd chance. The rooster don't give up on people..we are living in the greatest country in the world America.!! I hope everybody is doing great and living life outloud!!! So till next time Cockadoodle doo!!! The rooster loves ya’ll ... yee haw lol

AKA Poppys Garage JUNE 2018 In December of last year I picked up a relatively inexpensive decent little truck to recreate a 90s era pickup I had owned back then. I did so enjoy that truck and liked the shape and style. So I made an executive decision to begin gathering the necessary items and pieces to build another. I had this little V6 Chevy pickup to begin my new project but only after getting much closer on the Chases Big Truck Project. I don't have enough shop space to house two disassembled trucks at the same time as well as an almost completed 72 super glide project, (a story for another day). But like most of my best laid plans I went a little over board. The Queen would differ with me, she says I am crazy. However she at times contributes to this insanity too. One day she arrives from one of her shopping excursions and tells me about another truck similar in style to the one I just obtained and says, it's for sale, and it looks even better than the one you just got. I really did not need that bit of information. Off I go to check this new jewel out, and it too followed me home. Then a friend tells me of a big block Chevy motor and it follows me home, and then off to the machine shop for needed rebuilding. So my plans now morph to a clone of a 90's era , 454SS pick me up truck. Prior to these two gems showing up at my place we have the Queens chariot, my daily driver pickup 1, Chases Big Truck Project 2, and trucks 3 and 4 and just two of us drive. My plan is now to make one good one out of the two new arrivals. So I am pretty much content knowing after more progress with the Big Truck Project I will be starting on a new adventure with the latest additions. But wait there's more, as those TV sales guys say as they hawk the latest and greatest we must have products. I discover, while not looking for it, on the internet, a pretty nice Chevy 90s version almost original, fresh as a daisy, Black, (not my favorite color) low miles, lowered 454SS pickup. Did I mention it was less than 2 miles from my home, and the Queen was in New Mexico visiting during Mardi Gras, and I was left unsupervised? So like any gear head afflicted with this hobby, it too followed me home. I did leave the Queen a message, something to the effect, I think I am going to look at another truck, no I am going to buy another truck. I now own a total of 5 Pick me up trucks, the carriage house is overflowing. Stay tuned. Later, and until next month, the now banned from the internet, Gizmo.

By: Joyce Lachaussee WOW! What a great turnout for the Lucedale Hardee's Breakfast cruise in. Over 40 cars and trucks came out for the Cruise In and the first Swap Meet. There was little activity for the first swap meet but hopefully next month will attract more participation now that the word is out. The swap meet is for auto related items only. Come bring your car, truck and swap items or just come each second Friday of the month 7:30 a.m. - til at Hardee's in Lucedale. We were thrilled to have first time visitors from the Coastal Cruisers Club out of Slidell, La. Bill Olson from Carriere brought this 1970 AMX. He is the second owner having purchased this car in 1972! It has a 304 and is a 5 speed. He did a partial restore including the rear end. Hopefully this won't be Bill's last trip to the Lucedale Breakfast. A fellow Coastal Cruiser, Donald Richard' from Pearl River brought his 1967 Mustang that he has owned for 22 years. It has a 302 and is a 4 speed. This is a 20 year old restoration but still looks great. Donald's brother, Hawk, lives in Lucedale so Donald has no excuse for not returning to the breakfast. The third Coastal Cruiser was Nick Sherlock, also of Carriere. He drove this sharp looking 1946 Chevy truck that he has had for 12 years. He restored all the mechanical but farmed out the upholstery and paint. This little honey is powered by a 5.3 Chevy LS1 engine and is fuel injected. Everyone really enjoyed seeing this truck and the other two first time visitors cars. Please grace us with a visit anytime and thanks for making the long trek. This is the FUTURE of car collection and restoration! Emily Mae Howard, granddaughter of Melvin and Kathryn Howard, couldn't understand why Gramps and Gram refused to buy this '56 T-Bird for her. Emily said she looked great behind the wheel and was a natural because car collecting and restoration were in her blood. Come on Melvin and Kathryn, you can drive it 'til Emily gets her license!! We were happy to have Lauren Cowart from the George County Times stopping in to give the Breakfast some publicity. Thanks for the interest.

May 2018 By C E Spurlock It was a perfect Saturday morning as everyone gathered for this month's Texoma Cars & Coffee at Main Street Motors in downtown Denison, Texas. New, classic, vintage, antique cars and rat rods, as well as a few motorcycles lined Main Street and spilled over into the adjoining parking lot. There were lots a new faces and old friends who came out to enjoy the beautiful morning, fresh coffee, and car talk. This month's featured car is a two-tone, red and white 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air owned by Mark Fink. When asked what drew him to the Bel Air, Mark said, “"Well, what made me pick this car was it came in on consignment and it was just absolutely clean, just ready to go. Didn't have to do anything to it, other than put a battery in. So, nice and clean, It's just a cool car. I took it to the Tri-5 show at Reliable Chevrolet a few weeks ago. And everybody has two doors, right? This was the only four -door there… everything's not original. It has a 327 with a 350 transmission and the interior is all basically original. But it's just in really good shape. It shows nicely and it's a great driving car." I left a little bit late and hauled butt getting up here this morning. This car… doesn't have power steering, but it feels like it has power steering. It just drives really nice and it's got disk brakes in the front, which is a bonus. That was not stock. It's had a restoration but it's had several things done to it that aren't necessarily stock, but just to improve it." "It's not over done, you know. There are times when you see cars that are kinda over-done. This is a good driver. It's just nice, nice and clean." "The one thing that's not stock on the interior is the speakers, you know they put in those speakers and the kick plates. It actually has the old-looking stereo, but it has the system in it. It's got the disc-

12

JUNE 2018

changer and amp, all of that is all kinda hidden away (it is in the trunk). Which is great as it doesn't stand out. It still looks like the original radio, but it's not. It's upgraded." "Still stock appearing. It's like the wipers. Still stock appearing, but since they changed the engine over and everything they never put a wiper motor in it. So, it has no wiper motor. Not the end of the world Not planning on running in the rain if it's avoidable at all." As for future plans for the car, Mark said, "It needs a few things here and there which gives me something to do." "It came with the tires and wheels that are on it. American Mags, you know. I just try to keep it clean. I left the house this morning and it was early, and I live a little bit out in the country, and I no more than got rolling than the bugs hit, you. So, when I got up to Denison I had to clean the bugs off. "I spend a couple hours just detailing, just trying to keep it clean. The bugs are the worst in front always.” "It is pretty cool that the gas cap is in there. Did you know that?" He asked as he lowered the driver's side taillight. (I did not know it was tucked back there and immediately began plotting to move mine to the same location.) When it comes to car shows, Mark said, “Well, went to the Reliable show and whatever we can do up here in Denison. The problem for me is I'm here (Main Street Motors in Denison) on Saturday's and all the car shows are on Saturdays. It's pretty much going to be on-show here on Saturday's." Texoma Cars & Coffee is the second Saturday of each month from 8:00 AM 10:00 AM along Main Street in front of Main Street Motors in Denison, Texas.

1st Annual Gadgets & Gears Auto Show April 28, 2018 Denison, Texas By C E Spurlock It was a perfect day at Forest Park for the 1st Annual Gadgets & Gears Auto Show in Denison, Texas. With music provided by K&B DJ and Lighting Services, robots designed and built by the Denison High School Engineering Program, and

cars, cars, cars, $1200 was able to be raised for the High School Engineering program. “Last year there was 700 teams and we took 3rd Place, so in the robotics world, Denison is on the map. It helps having stuff like this; fund raisers and the incredible support from the community help get our program going," said Mr. Spencer Barnett, the teacher who leads the program. Every year, Texas B.E.S.T (Boosting Engineering Science and Technology) introduces a new game and theme with this year's first challenge to stack milk crates up to 24" high and then fire a milk crate through an 18' hole. The second challenge was to have a smaller robot which could lift paint cans and fire pingpong balls. Once the challenge is announced in September, the team has six weeks to build the robots. The Engineers brought the two different robots designed to meet these challenges to the Gadgets and Gears show. As set out in the rules for this year's competition, the large robot had to be within 36”x32” and could be constructed from any material which could be bought. As Mr. Barnett stated, "Our team does not have a very large budget, and so we use mostly recycled aluminium and one of our kids brought some RC cars up, so we gutted the wheels off those." The small robot designed to meet the paint can and ping-pong ball challenge is, in Mr. Spencer's words, "24”x24”, can't be over 24 lbs. You get so many inches of plywood, cardboard and PVC...That one was our best one that we've had, and so we had to come up with some designs, so the kids learned about the importance of wheel size and kinda how to gauge speed and our limited options with that. That was probably our favorite to do because of its limited resources and that helps us out. We don't have a million-dollar budget like some teams, so with PVC and cardboard we actually built about 12 of those in six weeks and just kept constantly making changes until we got to the final product. " "Next year we'll have a 3D AutoCAD class where they can actually design the robot on the computer first, so we can save some of our material from not having the measurements that we need. So, we are trying to take the next steps to really get these kids engineering-ready, workforce ready, but what they come up with is incredible." “My first year here was three years ago. We had six kids. Last year we had 42. So, we have expanded every year and I think that with success the kids learned we are pretty good at doing this. So, we have a website, it's www.denisonengineering.com <http://www.denisonengineering.com> and some of our sponsors are on there and we do some of this stuff for them, but if you're interested in anything else we do.” All of the awards were made by the

engineering students, who also determined the winners in most of the show categories which ranged from "Craziest Chrome" (won by Wyatt Adams) to "Picture Perfect Paint" (won by Dr, Buddy Merrick for Dedicated to The King); however, the overall winners were: HONORABLE MENTION - KING OF GEARS: Accepted by JAY CONNELLY for the 23 T-BUCKET owned by MR. ED KIRBY. KING OF GEARS -JAMES STARR for his blue, 1964 Mustang Convertible The show was jointly sponsored by Mr. Engineer, Inc. and Main Street Motors of Denison, Texas.

Texoma F-100 Roundup Gainsville, TX May 5, 2018 By C E Spurlock Leonard Park was filled to overflowing with F-100s from across Texoma. With plenty of shade, the Frank Buck Zoo right across the park, and vendors of everything from custom car/truck accessories to handmade crafts, there was something for everyone in the family to enjoy. Open to all Ford trucks and Broncs regardless of age or condition, the third annual show was one of the largest so far. Of the many clubs in attendance, The Foringas Truck Club from Dallas, Texas, had the largest presence and took home the awards for 1st Place in Class 73-79 (Jesus Frias), Best Group, and People's Choice. Congratulations! Also in attendance were the gentlemen of The Sled Shed, Inc. of Cartwright, OK, including Jim May, and KC's Paint Shop Hot Rods & Restorations from Everman, Texas. There was custom paint as far as the eye could see. Just a few were Total Chaos, owned by Addison and Jessica August with custom paint by Byrdman Kustomz, and the 7Up Ford owned by Roland and Cindy Zachary in Cream and Sea Coral. First-time attendee Paul brought down his F-100, with its custom bed liner made of Padauk (an African hardwood). The truck is custom painted in Sapphire Blue, which was only used once by Ford on the 1994 Ford Mustang. According to Paul, the color does, “…look blue a little bit, then looks purple. It is not an iridescent paint, no it's not, but it's just kinda in between the two colors enough sometimes in the dark it looks blue, but it gets sun on it, it looks purple.” Hope you can join us for the next one!

Lone Star Lodge #403 Annual Car Show May 5, 2018 - Denison, Texas BY C E Spurlock Blocks of South Fannin and West Chestnut were full of cars for the Lone Star Lodge Annual show. Everyone came out for the show and enjoyed breakfast, music, and car talk. There were many old favorites present, including Dr. Buddy Merrick with beautifully restored, 1932 Texas Six Shooter and Mr. Parsel with his fantastic Oldsmobile. Mr. Dub Nix of Gunter brought his fully restored 1932 Lincoln Roadster with custom blank and white striped leather seats. If you attend Christmas parades in the DFW/ Texoma area, you or your little ones might recognize Mr. And Mrs. Nix was Santa and Mrs. Claus! They participate in four to seven Christmas parades each year and were kind enough to share a photograph of Mr. and Mrs. Claus at the North Pole in their custom ride. There were some fresh new faces as well. Mr. Neal Posey of Lead Dog Transportation brought out his 1975 Chevrolet Cosworth Twin Cam Vega, number 1103 of the approximately 3500 made. The white interior is original to the vehicle, as is the paint. The Vega was unique as being the first car with Chevy's sixteen-valve, twin-cam engine, factoryinstalled stainless-steel exhaust header, and the first use of electronic fuel injection. From the Sea Coast Echo Staff: The Misfits Street Krewzers held their 1st Second Saturday Cruise In at Choctaw Plaza in Waveland this past weekend. Over 60 cruisers were in attendance Saturday evening and the local merchants along with the City of Waveland were on hand to welcome the club to their new location. Cruisers enjoyed music, door prizes and fellowship. A highlight of the cruise in was the awarding of two donations to local nonprofit organizations who serve our most vulnerable citizens, our children and the elderly. "We are blown away by the generosity of the Misfits. It takes a village to raise our children and the Misfits are incredibly community partners" Cynthia Chauvin, CASA Executive Director, said. The donations were made possible through a record turnout out at the 20th Annual Gnat Nationals Car Show put on by the Misfits in March. 255 cars participated in the show, making it the largest event in club history. The Misfits awarded the Hancock Senior Citizens $2,625 and CASA of Hancock County $7,875. The Misfits also presented Bay St Louis Mayor Mike Favre with an appreciation plaque for his long time support of the clubs Gnat Nationals car show. The Misfits will continue to host their monthly Cruise Ins on Second Saturday at Choctaw Plaza in Waveland through September of this year from 4 -8pm. They've already set the date for the 2019 Gnat Nationals Car Show. Mark your calendars for Saturday, March 9, 2019 at Our Lady of the Gulf.

May 16th, 2018 several of our Wicked Stangs family and guest (Vietnam Veteran and Purple Heart Recipient Cpl. George Holden (USMC), participated in the traveling Vietnam Wall Escort from Cp. Shelby to the Trail of Honor location at the Harley Davidson property in South Jackson. After arrival at Cp. Shelby we got more than what was expected. We ended up being part of history. The Gold Star Families Memorial Monument Unveiling Ceremony at the Armed Forces Museum took place prior to the escort. Gold Star Families, our Governor, military, elected and appointed state and national officials and a WWII Medal of Honor recipient (one of only 4 remaining from WWII) were in attendance. We knew prior to going that the ceremony was scheduled to take place but, what we didn’t know is that we would have a front row seat (back of auditorium but it was front row to us). After the short speeches and recognition of the Gold Star Families we proceeded outside for the Monument Dedication Ceremonies. A 21 gun salute, Taps and fly over, then the emotional unveiling of the Monument. Our club members who participated this year were all Veterans and it was amazing how we noticed that when a group of Vets get together how it seems that we all have been knowing each other for years. No one knew anyone by name. The military brotherhood is something that can‘t be explained. Shortly after the Monument unveiling the escort began. 100+ motorcycles, support vehicles, dozens of Highway Patrolmen, escort riders and of course our Mustangs started our trip toward Jackson. The route plan changed due to the Highway 49 construction and we ended up in Brookhaven for a short pit stop then on to Jackson. On our way we were flanked by Apache and Huey helicopters. There were patriot citizens on most overpasses and along the highway waving signs of “Thank You” and American Flags. Those that stood at attention with their hands over their hearts, well let’s say…kinda took your breath away. Many thanks to the Patriot Riders for allowing us to participate again this year. We did our best to make ourselves worthy of this honor. The Mississippi Chapter of Wicked Stangs. Created by Jeremy Walker in 2014. We are a group of enthusiasts who share our passion about Mustangs.

Bryan White's Magnificent F250 Wow, this 1956 Ford F250 caught my eye from 100 yards away! I put down what I was doing, (eating donuts of course) and immediately headed over to take a look at this beauty. It reminded me of my days on the farm. Pickup trucks like this were workers just like everyone else where I lived. No fancy-schmancy wheels. No custom pinstripes. No custom paint. No lift kits. These were work trucks plain and simple. They came with one exterior door lock on the passenger side. No one locked their trucks back then, even when they went into town to buy seed. These trucks hauled cattle, hay, straw, corn, beans, chickens, and pulled trailers and wagons. Gosh, those bring back good memories. This pickup truck belongs to Bryan White from New Market, Indiana, and it doesn't look or smell the same as the trucks I remember in 1956. I worked on a lot of them. This is an F250 so I know it had to see a lot of work, though. The first thing I noticed about this truck was the beautiful paint. This is the way this truck must have looked when it was brand new. It has a 272 V-8 and three on the tree. That is the way they were back then. I had a difficult time explaining that to my grandson when I took him over to see this truck. Yup, you guessed it, this has drum brakes front and rear, with leaf springs and 8 lug wheels. Now those are some working wheels and tires. The color is Meadow Green. It shines like the top of the Chrysler Building! There are side boards just like there would have been in 1956. I really appreciated that touch. The interior is without adornments as a truck should be, but it is

restored to perfection. The seats are perfect and a perfect color. Black paint sets it off. This is a stunning pickup. The vehicle was discovered in a barn outside of Crawfordsville, IN in October of 2015. Brian researched the truck and it was sold new at a local dealership. The first owner of the F250 owned a lumber yard in New Market, IN. BUT then it was sold to a local farmer who used it to haul cattle in the bed. (Uncle Ezra and I talked about this, and we still bet it smelled like chicken manure when it was on the farm. Every truck we ever worked on smelled like chicken manure. Sorry Bryan, it smells nice now!) The pickup was used on the farm until 1976 when it went into retirement. The 1956 was parked and not started again until Christmas Day in 2017. The restoration process took two years and three months to complete. This was built by Bryan alongside his son, Derek. A big shout out to Derek for the bodywork!! You and your dad did an outstanding job of restoring this work of art from the past.

www.GulfCoastMotorSports.com

There was no question in my mind that this showpiece deserved a “Cubby's Choice” award. No question at all. This truck also received an award at the Central Indiana Camaro Club Spring Fling. Bryan will be collecting a lot more awards with this outstanding work of art. Thank you Bryan White for allowing me to feature this great piece of history. Uncle Ezra says: “If you're lucky enough to be different, don't ever change.” Boy did he take that one to heart. He hasn't changed in 90 years! That's it for this month. I will have some more goodies for you next month. Gotta Cruise!

Photos by: KT On May 5th Metal Brothers presented Battle in Bama, the U.S.S. Alabama Battleship annual car show. Rosa Lee, is a member of the Mobile Bay City Bombshells and supporter of the battleship historical society. “This particular car show is the perfect opportunity for a reminder of the battleships history, our history of the past might only be the stories told by our parents and grandparents.” Participants put their heart and soul into the restoration of these classic vehicles. Rosa Lee helped them reminisce about the lifestyle of the 1950’s. Also there were many modern day cars represented and their owners incorporated a fresh perspective into their individual styles and customization. All of this created a bridge from past to future and providing a wonderful atmosphere for those both young and old. 20

We headed out for Destin, FL about 5 am Friday morning. I do many car shows each year and Burning Up The Beaches is one of my favorites, you know you're going to have fun and it could be the weekend legends are made of! BUTB benefits Arc of the Emerald Coast, an incredible group that works with over 400 mentally challenged clients, offering an awesome list of services. They focus on Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Autism, Williams Syndrome and sensory impairments. The work they do is incredible. Plus it's a great group of people to hang out with because they also know how to have fun. We arrived in Destin at Destin Commons Mall about 10:30 am, the property guys were awesome, making sure I had my electrical needs met and the cords covered for pedestrian traffic. We got the Hot Rod Show trailer set up, the music playing and we headed off to check-in the hotel, get the room setup and get some beach time. We got to spend about three and half hours on the beach with the chair/ umbrella deal, enough for me to find where I missed with sunscreen. Then we got cleaned up for dinner, secured the Hot Rod Show trailer and headed to The Gulf for dinner. Friday night's dinner was bayside at The Gulf, an outdoor venue that is right on the water and just a cool place to hang out. The theme of the evening was 60's Hippy and Donna Tashik was dressed to the nines. I was the only one that recognized Donna in her costume out of our group.

We arrived home about 6 pm Sunday night, tired but we had a blast. Burning Up The Beaches one of those weekends legends are made of… Keep the ole Hot Rod ready and we'll see you down the road at a car show! til next month…

Terry terrymasonbarfield@gmail.com Facebook: Terry Mason's Hot Rod Show Hear a demo of the Hot Rod Show on Facebook by searching for Terry Mason's Hot Rod Show” and “Like Us” while you're there or search for “Terry Mason's Hot Rod Show” on YouTube.com for the show demo or contact Terry @ 228.669.8122

After dinner we headed back to the hotel and back to the beach. There is a cool bar right before you drop off into the sand and the waves are like soothing music. I have a favorite spot there. We got up early the next morning, breakfast, picked up ice & coffee and arrived at Destin Commons by 7 am. Destin Commons is very upscale, reminds me of a Disney World type complex. The cars started filling in the venue. Butch Patrick, Eddie Munster from the TV Series “The Munsters” got his two cars from the TV Show setup. By 8 am we had the music going. 10 am we got all the Veterans up to the Hot Rod Show trailer for our Veterans Salute and National Anthem. The Lokar Car TV Show was also there for the third year filming their TV show. We were wide open all day long with Burning Up The Beaches, a 300 car show. At 4 pm we had the awards ceremony and gave away a good 50/50 jackpot. So about 4:30 we started packing up for the trip home. It took about two hours to get everything loaded and ready to travel, including the Hot Rod Show golf cart, by then the BUTB Street Party was well underway right behind us. Live band, free food for the cruisers and 5 different shots for a cruiser to win 30 seconds in the Money Machine provided by IP Casino Biloxi, cruisers grabbed all the money they could. We stayed for a while socialized with my brother Ken and his wife Linda and some friends and then decided to go get seafood. We ate and then headed back to the hotel. Once back at the hotel, we took off to our favorite spot to listen to the crash of the waves and the gentle wind. So relaxing, took us a while to unwind from the show. It was OK…we had a late check out.

Not Your Basic Barbershop By Candy Cocktail Around the United States and beyond, there are several barbershops making a name for themselves in new and interesting ways, from classic vintage style to spectacular themes, these barbershops are not the ones your grandfather frequented. The key to a man's carefully crafted style is often a great haircut. With a resurgence of barbershops in recent years, they are no longer just a cool place to hang out. Instead they offer an array of services and extras, like live music and a stiff cocktail or two. I have compiled quite a stylish list of barbershops that are a cut above the rest. These far from average shops are not your basic barbershops.

“Shave and haircuts, two bits”old fashioned term for men’s grooming means it had a mere 25 cent price tag. Since 1899, the tune has been customized on everything from car horns to door knocks. And if you cannot make it to the barbershop, you can always purchase your own “shave and a haircut” for $60,000. This custom 1969 Barber Shop Car was created by Joe Bailon.

The big apple is home to several authentic vintage barbershops that will leave you looking dapper, including the Paul Molé Barber Shop, which is the oldest barbershop in Manhattan. Dubbed the Rolls Royce of barbershops, the cash only shop has been in operation since 1913. Regular customers even had their own coffee mug displayed on the shelves of the shop for use when they visited, including Henry Fonda, Mikhail Baryshnikov, Benny Goodman, John Lennon and long time New York City resident and current President of the United States, Donald Trump. The Blind Barber in New York, New York is much more than an olde time barbershop as it offers a unique and historical experience. After getting a cut, trim or shave, clients can go through a sliding door in the back wall to enter the shop's 1920s-style speakeasy and enjoy a complimentary cocktail. Detailed on nycgo.com, the bar is adorned with a copper-topped bar, leather banquettes and vintage photographs, where patrons can hang and bond over a variety of signature sprits, while listening to DJs Tuesday through Saturday. The bar also features pizzas from Gnocco, an Italian eatery next door to the intimate, white-walled shop. According to untappedcities.com, another NYC shop to schedule an appointment at is York Barbershop. The 85 year old barbershop’s interior is filled with vintage accessories and “Mad Men”-style barbers.

Well groomed gentlemen of all ages will enjoy a pit stop at Toronto’s most classic car cool barbershop: the Driven Barber. Offering precision haircuts, old-fashioned hot towel straight blade shaves and top notch beard work, this barbershop is located in a classic car setting. With an

espresso bar, museum quality automobile memorabilia and exotic cigars, there are vintage Playboys and 60s car magazines to read while you wait.

Located in the trendy Brickell area of Miami, scoundrels are welcome at RAZZLEDAZZLE, a 1940s era throwback barbershop. Looking like the boudoir set of the movie Moulin Rouge, with gold trimmed walls and chandeliers, RAZZLEDAZZLE is an old-fashioned barbershop specializing in haircuts, hot lather shaves and shoe shines. A “Dazzler, AKA a cute girl in costume, gives guests a hand and neck massage with their RAZZLEDAZZLE haircut.

Lights, camera, action! The next shop on the list is Reel Clips Barbershop in West Palm Beach, Florida where the barbershop meets the movies. A movie theater style waiting area and built in video monitors in the mirrors show short clips from iconic movies resulting in a unique barber experience.

Watching John pin stripe In New Orleans at the first annual “Wings and Wagons 2018 event. People love to watch him and cars are lining up to be next. Dragway fun.

John E Lunstrum Jr., age 37; was born and raised in Biloxi, Mississippi and has traveled and resided all over various parts of the Gulf Coast. He loves painting large-scale murals. John is a naturally gifted and self instructed artist that has received a little help along the way and great support from his family and friends, John stepped out on faith and opened his first shop, called "Shop 163" on Dauphin Island Parkway located in Mobile, Alabama. This major step in his life eventually led him to a partnership with Greg Owens that resulted in the opening of his first tattoo shop called "Gold Tattoo". Eventually both the shop and tattoo parlor were consolidated to John’s home where he worked freely at his own pace and leisure.

28

JUNE 2018

With inclement weather conditions and the economy becoming increasingly difficult to make a living as an Artist, John decided once again to step out in faith and relocate to the Western US area to a town called Hobbs, New Mexico. While there John voluntarily worked for the Hobbs Elementary Schools as a face painter for the children. John also produced custom artwork at "Tallman Customs", where he was readily received by Scott Capps. In an effort to prove his passion and quality as an artist in Hobbs, John originally started working at "Tallman Customs" as a volunteer for the first 5 months and eventually became a highly appreciated, salaried employee. John had his first gallery showing at Lea County Center for the Arts. Interviewed for his new talent in the area and achievements, John was selected as artist of the month and was featured in a local magazine and newspaper. Today John has returned to the Mississippi Gulf Coast from all his travels. Back to his "roots" from the West, he is bringing passion with him as well as various credentials and many new techniques and talents that are like a breath of fresh air to the art community and his hometown. John just finished a contract working daily at the Biloxi National Cemetery, realigning headstones as an art form. He completed a massive mural at the new Tasty Tails restaurant in Gulfport. .

Hot Rod Revival 3 Text & photos by: Janice Johnt I’ve been involved in the Nostalgia racing world for the past couple years and I’ve heard countless racers and spectators talk about “going to Greer.” It has always been the next big race after the Gasser Blowout series so there’s lots of talk about it during GBO. This year I finally got tired of missing out and we loaded up and made the 500 mile ride to Greer Dragway, just outside of Greenville, SC. The track is located in a residential area so they hold their test-and-tune sessions on Thursday night instead of Friday night. Racers started arriving Thursday morning and by the time we got there Thursday afternoon, I was shocked at how full the track was. I started going racing with my Dad when I was 2 or 3 so it’s safe to say that I’ve been to the track a time or two, but I have never seen a track so packed for a test-and-tune session in my entire life! $8 gets you in the gate as either a spectator or a racer. That’s it! From the time the track went hot at 6:00 until they shut it down at 10:00, the staging lanes and stands were full. Track officials were friendly and professional and kept things moving briskly all night. I was VERY impressed! Thursday’s test-and-tune session was the debut for the new blown 368 small block Ford in Travis Martin’s Sucker Punch 1963.5 Ford Falcon. It came off the trailer strong and made some impressive passes during the test-and-tune session and on Saturday in both the A/G and Outlaw classes. Chris Cantrell in Hound Dog, Randy Stone in Bootlegger, and Mark Newton in Rule Breaker were some fellow A/G cars who made some test passes Thursday night. Gates opened at 8:00 on Saturday and by the time the track went hot at 12:00, the stands and fence line were completely full. Jessie Holmes’ Southern Outlaw Gasser crew continued their tradition of giving a slow ride for the kids (from age 2 to 92!) which is a driver and fan favorite. Mike Greer runs a tight schedule and once the racing started, it flowed quickly from class to class. The day was full of big burnouts, crazy wheelstands, and beautiful back up girls! Hot Rod Revival is now on my calendar moving forward. This is truly a race not to miss!

Gasser Grudgefest Text and Photos by Janice Johnt Emerald Coast Dragway in Holt, FL hosted Jessie Holmes’ Southern Outlaw Gassers for the first annual Gasser Grudgefest. Originally scheduled for early February as the first race on the Southern Outlaw Gassers calendar, rainy weather forced it to be rescheduled for early May. The extra time turned out to be a good thing for a few drivers who were able to get their new motors in and tested before the race. The Gasser Grudgefest format is similar to the well known Gasser Blowout Series. The race kicked off with the driver and fan favorite slow pass for kids (aged 2 to 92, per Jessie Holmes!) and was followed by Gasser, Nostalgia Footbrake, Nostalgia Transbrake, Jr Dragster, and Exhibition classes. Jimmy Spinks in the Country Boy 1955 Chevrolet and Aubrey Padgett in the Big Iron 1950 Chevrolet ran a best 2 out of 3 grudge match as well as Tim Rockman in the Big Rock 1959 Simca and Jimmy Roberts in the Dixie Flyer Willys. There were several nice cars making exhibition passes throughout th e day. Eugene Bogart in his Hot Wheels blown 1967 Camaro and Rick Eisenzimmer in his blown 1968 Nova were set to make some blistering grudge passes, however mechanical issues loaded the Nova up early. This grudge match is going to be rescheduled and when it does - hold on to your hats! Steven Rawls in the Pure Blown Hell blown 1953 Bel-Air lined up with Eugene for a couple fast exhibition passes. Steven’s BUG (back up girl) Donna White helped to put on a great show for the fans! Adam Pettis from Innovative Street Technologies made a couple exhibition passes in his turbo 427 Ford powered 1971 Nissan 240z. Adam is a regular at radial and no prep races, but this is the first time he has brought his car out to a Southern Outlaw Gassers Nostalgia race! If you missed Gasser Grudgefest, you missed a great time! The Outlaws’ motto, “Good people and good times” says it all! If you ’ re looking to catch the Outlaws close to home, Gasser Blowout 8 will be held at Atmore Dragway on October 19 & 20. For more information, search for Southern Outlaw Gassers on Facebook!

FOOT NOTES By Lynne Lightfoot

The 4th Annual Cancer Research Car Show and Poker Run took place on Sunday, April 8, 2018 at the Westwego Farmers & Fisheries Market in Westwego, Louisiana. The weather was overcast and chilly – not the most conducive to a successful event of this kind. However, Mother Nature has nothing on T-Van Falgout and his wife Charlotte, who chair this event every year. Charlotte is a breast cancer survivor and, since she was blessed with a cancer-free diagnosis, she and T-Van have been working to raise money for cancer research so others may know the joy of beating this devastating disease.

Charlotte Falgout, breast cancer survivor, says it all with her license plate.

The NOLA Bombshells

Charlotte presenting her husband, T-Van Falgout’s with his Vietnam Veteran Recognition pin. Over 50 motorcycles and more than 40 cars participated this year. The event offered a day filled with plenty of food and drink, with both live and silent auctions and raffle items. There were four outstanding bands playing non-stop – West End, Cypress, The Almighty Remedy featuring Tracey Anne-Jolie and Dana Lynn Dufrene & Velvet Kick and a performance by the NOLA Bombshells dance company . Despite the gloomy weather, more than $14,000 was raised for cancer research. Every single one of us knows someone who has been affected by cancer. Mark your calendars now for April 27, 2019 the 5th Annual Cancer Research Car Show and Poker Run so you can join in raising money for a most worthwhile cause.

Some of the poker run rides.

A fine bike, but what a kickstand! March 29th was National Vietnam War Veterans Day. This became a nationally recognized annual holiday in 2017 when it was signed into law by President Donald Trump. The date was chosen because March 29, 1973 was the last day troops were withdrawn from Vietnam. Vietnam Veterans around the country were recognized and “decorated” with a pin acknowledging their service. In Metairie, Louisiana, a ceremony was held at the local Humana Insurance office. Humana opened their facility and had a small lunch buffet for everyone after the pinning was completed. The New Orleans Military and Maritime Academy’s Color Guard and Chorale participated in the event that was also attended by a World War II nurse and Veterans of Korea and the Middle East. The Vietnam war started as a civil war between North and South Vietnam. It escalated, and the North Vietnamese Army received support from its communist allies China and the Soviet Union. The South Vietnamese Army was supported by anti-communist allies including the United States, Australia and South Korea. President Trump, recognizing that American military who served in Vietnam received, in most cases, deplorable welcomes upon returning home, saw fit to establish a day to honor the sacrifices they made. On March 29th, Americans are encouraged to fly their American flags in honor of those who served in Vietnam and to thank all those who made sacrifices during a war that lasted almost 20 years. My husband, Charlie, is a proud Vietnam Veteran. He quit his senior year of high school in Newport, Rhode Island to enlist in the Army. He has told me stories of his time “in country,” and still more of his return home. Unlike most returning home from war, they weren’t applauded and looked upon as war heroes. Upon their return to the States, Vietnam Veterans were yelled at, cursed at, spit upon, beaten, stoned and called terrible, unimaginable things. I was proud to be a witness to Charlie finally receiving his government’s recognition.

Poker run was well attended.

This little pin may not seem like much, but to Vietnam Veterans, it is a symbolic “Thank You” – not just for their service, but for everything they endured because of that service – a thank you long overdue. As they were pinned, they were told: “On behalf of our Nation, I am privileged to present you this lasting memento of the Nation’s thanks. Thank you for your service and for the sacrifices you and your family made for all of us.”

After the ceremony, some of the NOMMA Cadets had a lengthy, enjoyable repartee with a few of the Veterans. According to the Department of Defense, to date, there are still 1,598 Americans unaccounted for in Southeast Asia. NEVER FORGET

I recently got informed of a new shop up here in Picayune, so naturally my interest in all things automotive led me to go visit and meet these folks. I was very pleased to discover they were young guys too. And somewhat surprised to learn that they were doing work on racecars that were owned and campaigned by many of the Street Outlaws. Mr. Jeremy Adkins the owner began working on racecars at a very young age, 13 to be precise, at his fathers’ place, Adkins Race Cars, in Maybee, Michigan, and had been doing so until he started up his own operation. Around that time he got connected with a few of the Street Outlaws and was traveling back and forth from Michigan to here in the south to help fabricate and or repair a few of their cars. After 3yrs of these trips he decided it would be to his advantage to get closer to his customers. They just recently, 3 months ago, opened up the shop here in Picayune. These guys specialize in racecars, however, they can do custom headers, turbo systems, roll cages, and front and back half installs as well. They are very well versed in chassis setups and go fast capability. The thing that most impressed me is these are some young folks,( anyone younger than 40 is young to me ) involved in this automotive business/hobby and are committed to their trade of welding fabricating and repairing these go fast cars for some that have a need for speed. All of their builds as well as all of the cars they have and continue to work on are NHRA certified and meet all NHRA standards. Presently they are not inspectors but are working towards that ability to certify these chassis. With their work ethic and capabilities I see a model for success. If you need to build a go fast car, or want to put a suspension system in to make your car hook up with bigger tires, or maybe a turbo or two, stop in and see Jeremy Adkins of Bad Habitz Fab. Gizmo

After thinking of the many reasons the used auto parts business isn’t thriving like it once was I’ve come to the realization that most millennial’s don’t understand the concept of a salvage yard or even realize we exist. The internet and the instant gratification of typing into Google what you’re looking for and pressing the buy now button on Amazon or whatever other sites they’re buying that cheap Chinese garbage for whatever ridiculously cheap price (because it cost pennies to make) is destroying the used auto parts business and the auto salvage industry. If only people would realize that most OEM parts are more reliable, go through rigorous safety tests, made to last, and you’re using a recycled part so you’re helping the environment and keeping the little guy in business! Stop giving your money to Amazon or whatever other giant multimillion dollar corporations you’re supporting and stop buying that cheap Chinese junk because you’re killing the little guy and hurting the auto salvage industry and only making the Chinese richer. Tell someone about used auto parts and the salvage yards - not Amazon!
