“ God has lined up divine connections, people that will be good to you, encourage you, push you forward, He’s also lined up people that will try to stop you, people that will try to make you look bad, try to discourage you. There are Goliath’s ordained to come across your path. If you don’t understand this principle, you’ll get discouraged, “God why is this happening to me?” No that opposition is not there to stop you; it’s there to establish you. When you overcome, you will not only step into a new level of your destiny but everyone around you will see the favor of God on your life. ” …… Joel Osteen Cruizin’ in the passin’ lane By: Jimbo Even with a hurricane baring down on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, Cruisin’ the Coast had 8,308 registered vehicles and I think more would have signed up if registration hadn't shut down.. With Veterans Day this month and all the patriotic feelings being shared by all, I wanted to ad my contribution. On the cover is a new design by Jeff Allison. I asked Jeff if he would create a patriotic Gulf Coast MotorSports T-shirt. And now you have your choice of three different MotorSports shirts by Allison. I look forward to November, to some people it’s all about cooler weather or the fall foliage thing. Not for me. See to me it’s the start of the eatin’ season. Yep! and I’ll start while I’m in Panama City Beach at the Emerald Coast Cruizin’ the official start of the holiday season. I have to start training for the Thanksgiving and Christmas party's and all the in-between events. All are filled with plenty of eatin’. Cookies, cake, pie, candy, turkey, sweet potatoes & fixin’s… Yep!! I sure do look forward to this time of year… Hey didjaeatyet? NEVER FORGET YOUR FRIENDS.. A newlywed young man was sitting on the porch on a humid day, sipping ice tea with his father. As he talked about adult life, marriage, responsibilities, and obligations, the father thoughtfully stirred the ice cubes in his glass and cast a clear, sober look on his son. "Never forget your friends," he advised, "they will become more important as you get older." "Regardless of how much you love your family and the children you happen to have, you will always need friends. Remember to go out with them occasionally (if possible), but keep in contact with them some how. "What strange advice!" thought the young man. "I just entered the married world, I am an adult and surely my wife and the family that we will start will be everything I need to make sense of my life." Yet, he obeyed his father; kept in touch with his friends and annually increased their number. Over the years, he became aware that his father knew what he was talking about. mysteries on a person, friends are the bulwarks of our life. After 60 years of life, here is what he (and you) will have learned: Time passes. Life goes on. The distance separates. Children grow up. Children cease to be children and become independent. Jobs come and go. Illusions, desires, attraction, sex....weaken. People do not do what they should do. The heart breaks. The parents die. Colleagues forget the favors. The races are over. But, true friends are always there, no matter how long or how many miles away they are. A friend is never more distant than the reach of a need, intervening in your favor, waiting for you with open arms or in some way blessing your life. When we started this adventure called LIFE, we did not know of the incredible joys or sorrows that were ahead. We did not know how much we would need from each other. Jimbo, It's about 50 degrees, raining up in the hills. Sure signs it's early mud season, when roads get slicker and tractors won't traction. After early mud season we'll have pothole growing season. The freezing, thawing water will crack hard-surfaced roads. Workers will fertilize immature potholes with salt and cinders, and cultivate growing potholes using snowplows and tire chains. By March there'll be full-grown crop of potholes. Then late mud season. In May, when temperatures rise again, asphalt production will resume for pothole patching until late September. That's 3 seasons up in the hills. Not finishing field work that should have been done. Reasons for getting back to Gulfport. Best regards, Mendal Yoho

Gizmos Carriage House AKA Poppys Garage November 2017 Seems like just some time last week or so we were all getting ready for a new year. Time just keeps on ticking, but I wish the ticks would slow down some. I guess it's all about perspective. From my perspective at my now senior age, its flying by. The Queen informs me that some stores started putting up Christmas decorations and stuff long before Halloween. I would not know because I rarely go shopping, unless its motorcycle or automotive related, and those places hardly if ever put out Christmas decorations, and if they do they would wait until they beginning of December. At this rate most stores down here will most likely be decorating for Mardi Gras the week of Thanksgiving. That is kind of sad for me, from my perspective. Maybe that's the reason time seems to go faster, because people keep rushing things. As a kid, Thanksgiving Day began the start of the Christmas shopping time and to begin decorating. Apparently that's not so anymore and has not been so for many many years. Maybe I should start my Christmas shopping early for next year, while I have not started doing so for this year. I am like most of my male friends and don't usually go shopping until a few days before Santa's arrival. I like walking around in stores looking totally helpless, kind of like a deer caught in the headlights, and not a clue as to where to find most items on my list. Let me just say the Queen has gotten some awful gifts from me in my early adventures in shopping. Now she has learned to give me pictures of items along with details as to where to find them in certain stores. I still mess up though, because I hardly if ever take those directions when I do decide to go. Well have a Safe Mardi Gras everyone, no wait Happy New Year, no no Merry Christmas, I'm so confused, on second thought, have a Wonderful Thanksgiving everyone. And one more important thing Thank a Veteran, for without them we could not and would most likely not be able to celebrate any of the annual Holidays. Till next time from the Carriage House Gizmo.

The start of October came in with fast speed ahead. Cruisin the Coast started Sunday with us at the block party in Gulfport. It is always so exciting on the first day, beside all the beautiful street rods it is the friends you have made in the pass years you get to see again. I helped flag The Street Rod Road tour group into their special parking places at the Block Party. The group was organized by Jerry Dixey. I observed that most of the cars had NSRA inspection stickers. I talked with a few NSRA reps and some inspectors enjoying this event. The venues opened Thursday and Friday and I could not keep count of all the NSRA stickers on the street rods. This shows that the inspectors are doing their jobs so that our street rods and all older vehicles are safe. Thank you Jerry Cuevas our NSRA inspector from south Mississippi for doing a good job keeping our rods safe. CTC had a record year with over 8300 cars. Mother nature gave us a scare and the event closed a day early, but it was the safe thing to do. We were blessed the hurricane Nate came and left so fast. This event is over but CTC will start planning for next year so we can all enjoy this great event. The dates for next year are Sept. 30 - Oct. 7, 2018. Hope to see you there. Thanks Donna

We made it ‌ OUR ROAD TO SEMA is happening right now! This being our November issue, I know I'm in Las Vegas, Nevada right now attending SEMA 2017. I'm honored and proud to be working along side Bryan Dagel and the staff on this International RATical Rod Build-off / Drive-off competition, heading to SEMA for the first official year. Seeing this Stefanie Lea event come full circle is a great feeling and accomplishment for us all. Its something that hasn't come easy, I stayed up late at nights worried over one thing or another. Full of anxiety waiting on deadlines from all the teams and holding our breathe to even see if SEMA was going to let us in the door. And with a lot of team work and determination, we now have a solid group of people all working on the same ROAD TO SEMA ... WE made it happen!!

As everyone is geared up and meeting in Lincoln, Nebraska for the 1,300 mile journey towards Las Vegas, Nevada. I’m just getty over just getting to ride along with this convoy of International Rat Rodders, I call my friends. As we drive over the Hoover Damn and into downtown Las Vegas, Nevada for a cold beer, on the last leg of this trip. In one of the amazing RATical Rods that will be on display this year at SEMA. Its almost to good to be true! A lot can change in a year, but step back and look at what you guys have accomplished in that year as well!!

By: Michael Lachaussee The October Hardee's Breakfast Gang were recuperating from a week of Cruisin and thankfully a weak category 1 Hurricane which shortened Cruisin the Coast. A little fall feeling weather with slightly less humidity provided a pleasant time for this months cruise in at Hardee's in Lucedale with approximately 28 cars. This photo represents a portion of car enthusiast who make the monthly breakfast. This is only 21 car buffs who have a total of approximately 1000+ years of car knowledge. It would be an understatement to say most of these guys and gals have worked on every type of car conceivable. There were several people not available for this photo and hopefully next month we can present another group. It would be a good question to ask this group - Are you passing this knowledge down to preserve these treasures for the future? Many in this group are in their 60's and up and it would be safe to say the culture from growing up in the 50's has changed dramatically. The younger generation interested in cars today think the 1970/80's are "old" and seem to like cars, trucks and jeeps we once considered daily drivers. Nothing wrong with this, in fact it's a good thing to see younger people involved in this hobby. But we can only hope this younger generation will one day be turned on by a 1932 all steel Ford or a 1955 stock Mercury or Chevy. Don't let this knowledge end with this generation. Wonder if these guys hire out??? This 1964 Corvette is owned by Dale Poole from George County. He's had it about 4 months and the car came out of Tennessee. It has a 500 HP small block Chevy engine. In addition to this one, Dale has a stable of Corvettes - a 1964 convertible with 1800 HP, a 1965 with 1000 HP, a 1970 with 1000 HP, and a 1971 with 550 HP. Needless to say he's into Vettes! Dale is one of the guys pictured in the years of experience. He possesses 52 years of experience and has enjoyed his hobby.

We want to wish continued recovery to Greg Prine and Tom Browning. Also our prayers go out to Larry Branning and family in the loss of his daughter, Melissa. Come join us in Lucedale, MS every 2nd Friday of the month with or without a vehicle.

Foot Notes By Lynne Lightfoot West Jefferson Medical Center (WJMC) in Marrero, LA has held a Family Fest each October since 2009. All proceeds benefit the WJMC Cancer Center, Cardiology, Pediatric Emergency and Rehab Services departments. What started as a one-day event has grown to a three-day affair featuring food, music, games, rides, a Halloween Costume Contest, Trick-orTrunk for the kids, a Friday Night Cruise-In and a Saturday Car & Bike Show. This year’s entries included classic cars and trucks, low riders, many members of a local Corvette club, dune buggies, motorcycles and even a semi-truck. For the second year, my husband, Charlie and I entered The Turtle, our ’52 Chevy Styleline and my brother, Herb, entered his 1989 Dodge D100 pickup. The guys were very proud to be honored with Top 50 Awards. Last year, The Turtle won the Under Construction Award. Although still very much a work-inprogress, I guess she has had too much done to still meet that criteria.

I come from an American family. We are proud of our roots and we don’t hesitate to step up and defend all that our great country has always represented. Our family bleeds red, white and blue. We stand for and respect our flag, our national anthem and our president. My dad, Charles Vincent, was a Merchant Marine in World War II. It wasn’t until 1988 that he was able to refer to himself as a Veteran, despite his service and having been under fire while performing a very important duty. His brother, my uncle Gerald, was a WWII Navy veteran. My cousin, John Kirwin, served in the Army in Korea and died in the horrific Death March. My husband, Charlie Lightfoot, is an Army Vietnam Veteran. His son, David, is Active Duty Army. My step-son (from my previous marriage), Michael BoisClaire, is Active Duty Marine and his daughter just finished up at Paris Island and has begun her service as a Marine, too. We have other family members who have served or still serve and I appreciate each and every one. Since our nation celebrates Veterans Day in November, I thought it would be nice to show here some of the Faces of Freedom I was honored to encounter while Crusin’ the Coast this year. These men and women were willing to make the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our great nation, our freedoms and our way of life. I, for one, will forever be grateful to them and to every person who has or does put on a uniform. May God bless them and may God bless America.

A MINI BONNEVILLE RUN, & STUPID SCOOTER? OK a couple of months ago I told you GCMS readers about Russ and his 63 ½ red Ford 390 kickin’ Harvey Rays butt in his 63 Red SS Impala. Well more of the true story of Harvey Ray and some stupid stuff from Scooter continues. Harv was so piddled that his Chevy SS got beat that he sold it, went back to my dad and bought a new 64 silver blue Corvette coupe with the higher HP 327 365 HP V-8 with 202 heads, and the famous ¾ race solid lifter Duntov Cam and other more serious GM hi po stuff. Of course it had a 4 speed, but ended up with high way 3:08 gears. Harv broke it in, grabbed me and my buddy Jerry, and asked us to make a MINI BONNIE RUN with him to be witnesses to the top end numbers. So we head north on US-131 just north of Reed City, Michigan. At the US 10 intersection Harv turned left to head west on good old US-10. Harv power shifted at about 7000 RPMs from 1st to second, fishtailed a bit sideways even with 3 of us in his Vette. Then at close to 100 banged 3rd with a decent rip of the 6:70 X 15 BIAS PLY white walls, and then after cramming it into 4th the speed-O was reading a whopping 155 MPH!! We pass the Aug. issue’s drag race starting line and continued on up the hill and past REITA'S RESTAURANT ! Reita had her famous beef stew as the special of the day! WHOLLY MOOSE CRAP, SARGENT EMERSON LAKE, (his real name) of the local Michigan State Police post was just getting out of his Mo-Par cruiser, and our air stream had him honestly grab his hat so it would not be sucked off his head as we cruised by at a let off it lightly at those speeds 145 MPH or so. He just gave us a quick to hell with those jerks wave and turned to go eat. We never heard a thing about it from him or the post either. Life in the forming days of nostalgia was good and then some. After Harv had had his fill of 150 MPH+ runs, he pulled the 3:08s in favor of 4:11's to get to the stop light stuff big time. Sadly Harv got killed later on racing with the 64. Rest in peace in hub cap heaven Harv. The Chevy dealership ended up with the totaled 64, 365 HP Vette in pile out back of the garage where I'm the lot boy / wrecker driver. My boss Henry tells me I get to haul it the 85 miles to Grand Rapids, Michigan and grab the check they will be paying for what's left of Harv's 64. This junk yard was the only place back then that wanted anything to do with ripped up fiberglass Vettes. So off I go at $1.10 an hour. When I got there I asked the yard boss how much he wanted for the engine. I bought Harv's whole 365 HP 327 engine from generator to Holley carb to oil pan on the fairly cheap side and hauled it back to Reed City with the wrecker. I figured an extra 70 HP could be fun in the 58. Right? Once Jerry and I got it fully installed, I had Jack the parts man order me up a new set of 3:08's, like Harv had. Quickly we pulled my 4:11's out so I too could make MY MINI BONNIE RUN or two before slapping the 4:11's back in the 58 Vette. I also had just purchased a new set of ATLAS PLYCRONS tires. I'm running US 131 south of Reed City, near the CRAPO FLATS which everyone knew was the home of DYNAMITE THE CLOWN, and the county line. It is a 3 or 4 mile slightly down hill slope to the south road that was good to help the non wind tunnel 58 to see just how fast it would go with 3:08s and 365 HP? I'm at about 135 and the whole car begins to vibrate like a 25 cent Holiday Inn bed. And I see about four cars ahead of me that I figure I'll just

14 14

NOVEMBER NOVEMBER2017 2017

pull out at about 145 MPH, blow their doors off and gently pull back in. Then I was figuring I'd be near Paris Mi. so I have to do a BEACH BOYS ???? AKA SHUT DOWN! Back then all Michigan cars except dealership cars had to have both front and rear license plates. As I pull in from passing those cars at about 145, in my badly vibrating dash mounted mirror, I see that the last car I passed had NO front license. Wholly Serious Poop Bat Man! It’s a new blue Kings-wood Estate wagon from the dealership that was Henry's wife's car. If she didn't get scarred to death when I blew by her, she'll for sure tell on me to my dad. I was on my lunch hour from the dealership, so I went back to work washing a couple of used car or something. My dad was in his sales man / Mgr's office but only waved at me. It was Friday, so I punched out at about 6, drove home to eat and dad was already home and in the bathroom or some where washing up. I had a date with my steady Sue, so I crammed down a cheese burger and some green beans to make mom happy. I said hi, kissed mom and hollered to dad if he was around and told him that I'd be at the dealership early tomorrow to get the used cars all washed. I heard nothing so I figured I was good to go. I ran to the Vette grabbed my keys and went to shove one in the ignition only to find a hole that looked like a cigarette lighter hole that had lost it lighter. Dad had used a straight paper clip and removed the whole assembly. I never even looked towards the house. I went in the garage, grabbed the lawn mower and began to hand gas mow our almost an acre lawn a bit early. I hoped maybe dad would not bother me doing something with out being asked or told to. The second he left, I called Sue and told her I'd not be seeing her tonight, which was not good for me. This kind of thing with dear ol’ dad had happened before, so I knew not to go get my lite blue 210 2 dr 55 Chevy either. I was grounded.

Scott & Sue at age 16 Turned out after three weeks dad, peeked over the top of his glasses and muttered to me.... Son Jack told me you were stupid enough to spend your money on a set of 3:08 gears for your Vette? Do me a favor and “get your ass down to the garage and remove those damn 3:08s, sell them or use them for a good boat anchor and get your 4:11's back in that damn hot rod so you don't kill your self ripping past other sane drivers at speeds that had to be over 140.” I went to the 58 and it had it ignition back in. So after I went to the dealership and did a R & R of the 3:08s to my 4:11's. I hit the road so I could continued our romance as usual. Dear ol’ dad never said any thing else about it. BUT Jack, the parts mgr told me it was my dad in the blue Kings-wood wagon not, Henry's wife. Life was good when Sunoco 260 was less than 30 cents a gallon. Scooter scooter4422@comcast.net

I had an opportunity to meet Mr. Brian Hagwood of Headliners Plus in Gulfport today and had the pleasure to catch him in a rare moment of not being real busy. As most in this automotive industry, he started relatively young doing body work, and soon tired of that, and he became more interested in doing upholstery. So he decided it was time to start his business doing mostly Headliners in 1994. After a short time he began to seek out quality people that knew the trade. So he began hiring what is now a staff of four, to do complete auto and truck interiors. He knew he had to hire experienced folks with the right skill to do the job at hand, and most of the four have been with him over 17 years. He and the staff try real hard to give his customer s what they want, for a fair price, and make sure they are appreciated. That formula for success seems to be working, because he has had to move to larger buildings twice since he started this operation. Presently their location is 3410 12th Avenue, in Gulfport and has been since 2015. He and the staff are passionate about doing quality work, while giving the customer exactly what they have in mind. They also try not to do the same thing twice, never trying to duplicate what they had just done. They are always trying to keep up with the latest trends and styles, and adding their own little twists and creativity. He has a great stitch and some really good installers that turn out some quality examples of craftsmanship. He and a few of the staff are of the gearhead persuasion as well. So doing things with and to all things automotive comes natural to them. Great work by great people and at a fair price is truly a recipe for success. So stop in and see him when you just need a headliner, convertible top, vinyl top, or a complete from the floor up interior or just something small that needs a little attention. They can handle it That is why its named, Headliners Plus. You won’t be disappointed.

Veterans Day vs Memorial Day By Candy Cocktail During my time volunteering with the nonprofits Heels for Combat Boots and Pinups for Patriots, it became apparent to all of us involved that the majority of people did not actually know the difference between Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Most people of course know that both holidays honor our military, but beyond that they cannot distinguish the difference between the two. This month, in honor of our November issue to recognize our admirable veterans, I felt it important to elaborate on the two holidays. This month's holiday, Veterans Day, is a federal holiday held every 11th of November. The annual holiday was created to honor all military personnel who have served in the U.S. armed forces. According to the public holidays website, congress called for special ceremonies to be held and for the holiday to be a day of prayer, thanksgiving and expressed a desire for the American flag be on display throughout the holiday. Instead of honoring only those that actually fought in a war, it is regarded as honoring all those who have ever served in the U.S. Armed Forces. Originally called "Armistice Day," the date to honor those that serve was chosen by President Woodrow Wilson to commemorate the signing of the armistice with Germany that ended hostilities during World War I. The treaty however failed to end the war; it was not until the signing of the Treaty of Versailles in 1919 that the war officially ended. Armistice finally became an official American holiday in 1938. In 1954, the name was changed to Veterans Day. "To us in America the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with - solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the

18

NOVEMBER 2017

country's service, and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of nations." - Woodrow Wilson Both holidays are about something very important: honoring the sacrifice that our service members make. The difference with Memorial Day is that unlike Veterans Day, the day honors those who DIED while in military service to our country, whether it be in battle or from injuries sustained in battle. Always observed the last Monday in May, Memorial Day formed as a result of the American civil war. According to Wikipedia, the practice of decorating soldiers' graves with flowers is an ancient custom that dates back to before the American Civil War, yet during the Civil War it became increasingly popular. While both patriotic holidays increase the number of Americans proudly waving their flags and wearing red, white and blue, Memorial Day is the day that you see many service member's graves decorated with American colors and flowers and national cemeteries lined with rows of beautiful flags. The holiday was originally called "Decoration Day" because both the North and the South decorated their loved ones graves in a manner similar to ours today. In 1882, the name was changed to "Memorial Day" and Federal law officially declared the name in 1967. On Memorial Day, the U.S. flag is lowered to half-staff for the morning part of the day. At noon, it is raised to full-staff for the remainder of the day. The half-staff position remembers the more than one million men and women who lost their lives in service to their country. At noon, their memory is raised by the living, who resolve not to let their sacrifice be in vain, but to rise up in their stead and continue the fight for liberty and justice for all. The future ? 1. Auto repair shops go away. A gasoline engine has 20,000 individual parts. An electrical engine has 20. Electric cars are sold with lifetime guarantees and are only repaired by dealers. It takes only 10 minutes to remove and replace an electric engine. Faulty electric engines are not repaired in the dealership but are sent to a regional repair shop that repairs them with robots. I am thinking...your electric engine malfunction light go on so you drive up to what looks like a Jiffy-auto wash, Your car is towed through while you have a cup of coffee and out comes your car with a new engine. 2. Gas stations go away. Parking meters are replaced by meters that dispense electricity. All companies install electrical recharging stations. 3. All major auto manufacturers have already designated 5-6 billions dollars each to start building new plants that only build electric cars. 4. Coal industries go away. Gasoline/oil companies go away. Drilling for oil stops.

You can see more of candy cocktail at www.facebook.com/xoxocandycocktail

5. Homes produce and store more electrical energy during the day and then they use and will sell it back to the grid. The grid stores it and dispenses it to industries that are high electricity users. A baby of today will only see personal cars in museums. 1. The FUTURE is approaching faster than one can handle! In 1998, Kodak had 170,000 employees and sold 85% of all photo paper worldwide. Within just a few years, their business model disappeared and they went bankrupt. What happened to Kodak will happen in a lot of industries in the next 5-10 years and, most people won't see it coming. Did you think in 1998 that 3 years later you would never take pictures on film again? Yet digital cameras were invented in 1975. The first ones only had 10,000 pixels, but followed Moore 's law. So as with all exponential technologies, it was a disappointment for a time, before it became way superior and became mainstream in only a few short years. It will now happen again (but much faster) with Artificial Intelligence, health, autonomous and electric cars, education, 3D printing, agriculture and jobs. Welcome to the 4th Industrial Revolution. Welcome to the Exponential Age!! 2. Software will disrupt most traditional industries in the next 5-10 years. 3. Uber is just a software tool, they don't own any cars, and are now the biggest taxi company in the world. 4. Airbnb is now the biggest hotel company in the world, although they don't own any properties. 5. Artificial Intelligence: Computers become exponentially better in understanding the world. This year, a computer beat the best Go-player in the world, 10 years earlier than expected. 6. In the U.S., young lawyers already don't get jobs. Because of IBM's Watson, you can get legal advice (so far for more or less basic stuff) within seconds, with 90% accuracy compared with 70% accuracy when done by humans. So, if you study law, stop immediately. There will be 90% fewer lawyers in (Continued on page 48)

I was writing an article to honor Veteran's Day, when this came across my computer. I have a strong loyalty to the United States of America, the men and women who protect us, and the American Flag that since June 14, 1777, when the Flag Act was established. It has been a symbol of our strength and unity. It has been a source of pride and inspiration for millions of citizens, and has been a prominent part of our national history. I feel this should not be offensive to any American. A time to kneel Written by: Ted Nugent Take a little trip to Valley Forge in January. Hold a musket ball in your fingers and imagine it piercing your flesh and breaking a bone or two. There won't be a doctor or trainer to assist you until after the battle, so just wait your turn. Take your cleats and socks off to get a real experience. Then take a knee. Then, take a knee on the beach in Normandy where man after American man stormed the beach, even as the one in front of him was shot to pieces ... the very sea stained with American blood. The only blockers most had were the dead bodies in front of them, riddled with bullets from enemy fire. Take a knee in the sweat soaked jungles of Vietnam. From Khe San to Saigon ... anywhere will do. Americans died in all those jungles. There was no playbook that told them what was next, but they knew what flag they represented. When they came home, they were protested as well, and spit on for reasons only cowards know. Take another knee in the blood drenched sands of Fallujah in 110 degree heat .. Wear your Kevlar helmet and battle dress. Your number won't be printed on it unless your number is up! You'll need to stay hydrated but there won't be anyone to squirt Gatorade into your mouth. You're on your own. There are a lot of places to take a knee where Americans have given their lives all over the world. When you use the banner under which they fought as a source for

your displeasure, you dishonor the memories of those who bled for the very freedoms you have. That's what the red stripes mean. It represents the blood of those who spilled a sea of it defending your liberty. While you're on your knee, pray for those that came before you, not on a manicured lawn striped and printed with numbers to announce every inch of ground taken ... but on nameless hills and bloodied beaches and sweltering forests and bitter cold mountains .. every inch marked by an American life lost serving that flag you protest. No cheerleaders, no announcers, no coaches, no fans ... just American men and women ... delivering the real fight against those who chose to harm us ... blazing a path so you would have the right to "take a knee." You haven't any inkling of what it took to get you where you are ... but your "protest" is duly noted. Not only is it disgraceful to a nation of real heroes, it serves the purpose of pointing to your ingratitude for those who chose to defend you under that banner that will still wave long after your jersey is retired. If you really feel the need to take a knee, come with me to church on Sunday and we'll both kneel before Almighty God. We'll thank Him for preserving this country for as long as He has. We'll beg forgiveness for our ingratitude for all He has provided us. We'll appeal to Him for understanding and wisdom. We'll pray for liberty and justice for all...because He is the one who provides those things. But there will be no protest. There will only be gratitude for His provision and a plea for His continued grace and mercy on the land of the free and the home of the brave. It goes like this ... GOD BLESS AMERICA!!!!! Remember that Veteran's Day is November 11th. This is the day set aside for us to applaud the brave men and women who are currently serving in the United States Armed Forces and those who have served. Do not forget these brave men and women. Send them your prayers. Our flag does not fly because the wind moves it…it flies with the last breath of each soldier who died protecting it. Gotta Cruise!

Foot Notes By Lynne Lightfoot On Saturday, September 16, 2017, Combel’s Customs Cruisers, a newly formed club in Marrero, LA, held its First Annual Benefit Car & Bike Show. The founders, John and Rhonda Combel, love cars and love helping others. It was a no-brainer for them to get together with a bunch of their friends who share those passions and do just that. Within just a few months of starting the Cruisers, they had already held their first major event and it was a resounding success. All profits from the show were donated to No One Fights Alone, a local non-profit organization whose mission statement is: "Understanding the expenses that come with a cancer diagnosis, 'No One Fights Alone' will organize fundraising efforts to support selected individuals and their families so they can focus on the battle against cancer instead of the bills." In 2014, Todd Ritter, was diagnosed with colorectal cancer. Although he had good health insurance, the mounting bills for uncovered expenses concerned and worried Todd, his family and their very good friends. So, his friends and family came together to help raise money to help pay Todd’s bills. They were so successful in their efforts that, in January 2015 they founded the non-profit organization No One Fights Alone (“NOFA”) to help others who have also been given a cancer diagnosis and who could use financial help. NOFA each year chooses several cancer patients, their “Heroes,” who will be the recipients of their help. In 2017, they are Chad Grosch, Jr., age 10, acute Myeloid leukemia; Dwight Rodrigue, Sr., age 65, pancreatic cancer; Kelly Lew Boudreaux, age 50, colon cancer; Noella Folse, age 52, vaginal squamous cell carcinoma; and Travis May, age 20, germ cell cancer.

Unfortunately, on May 16th, Todd Ritter lost his 41-month-long battle with cancer at 48 years old. NOFA has pledged to continue their work in Todd’s memory. Combel’s Customs Cruisers chose NOFA at their charity for their first event. The car show had more than 100 cars registered. In addition, they held a 50/50 raffle, sold donated food and drinks and had a large, silent auction. Once it was done, Combel’s Customs Cruisers were able to give NOFA a check for $41,212.72 – outstanding for such a fledgling organization. For more information on NOFA, go to www.noonefightsalonenola.org To see more photos of the event, go to www.facebook.com/LynneVLightfoot

This year's Cruisin The Coast was the best one yet in so many ways…plus we finally broke the 8,000 registered car ceiling we had been so close to for the last few years! Final number 8,308! Yea, that is so frickin' awesome! Our week started out getting up at 4am, (my grand daughter Kaley and me) with Cruisin Keesler on Keesler Air Force Base on the first Saturday. It's always exciting to go through the inspection to get on the base. We have to go in the rear vendor gate with the Hot Rod Show trailer. Kaley's eyes got real big when she saw the guards with AK's! Of course we had to get out and open all the doors on the truck and trailer and go inside while the dog goes through everything. I had been through it all a couple times before, they mirror under the trailer and truck, but it was fun watching Kaley go thru it and with her mouth wide open! The show as usual was killer! Beautiful setting for the show on the banks of the Biloxi Back Bay, under those 100 year old oak trees. Good turnout of cars and they feed everyone, great show with the Troops! Day 2, Sunday, once again up at 4 AM for what is turning in to one of the cruisers favorite shows during CTC, View The Cruise in downtown Gulfport. The official Kickoff of CTC! Got downtown about 5 am, got the trailer in position and leveled, the golf cart out and here comes the rain. It rained hard for about 45 minutes and then it was done. Got everything set up, my Hot Rod Show Sound Crew, headed by Kurtis Parker did an awesome job getting the extras sound systems up and going. At 10 AM we kicked off View The Cruise with the most emotional Veteran's Tribute and National Anthem I have ever been a part of. Glad I had my sunglasses on as tears were streaming down my face as the cruisers showed their immense respect for our Veterans, our Flag and our National Anthem. (There is a video on Terry Mason's Hot Rod Show Facebook page.) 2-3000 classic cars and well over 15,000 people. It just gets bigger and bigger each year! Monday was the parade in Long Beach and the Tip Tops at the harbor. The cloudy skies hurt the attendance at both, but the parade and the Tip Tops were awesome! Wednesday was set up day for the CTC Swap Meet at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. We got the trailer all setup and ready. My brother and his wife Linda came in that afternoon and I did a shrimp boil for them at my house. Boiled shrimp, new potatoes, corn on the cob, cole slaw and crackers. We all ate too much. Thursday we were at the Coliseum at 8am to be ready to open at 9am. We opened each day with our Veteran's Tribute and National Anthem. Right after we got the show kicked off at 10 AM. This year's CTC Swap Meet had over 265 vendors and I think all the cruisers came through. The World Famous Jenks from ET Motorgear brought TV Celebrity Courtney Hansen over to the Hot Rod Show trailer for an interview. Courtney stars on OverHaulin with Chip Foose and Power Nation. She has a new show coming out that she will be starring on, but she couldn”t announce it until SEMA where it will be announced. She did tell me, but I can't tell. What a nice person Courtney was, a delight to interview and obviously a beauty to behold! Thursday night I took the family to my favorite catfish place, Shaw's Catfish on Hwy 53 just into Hancock County, we ate too much! Friday was a tense day as the CTC Board was deciding what to do with the storm, Nate out in the Gulf. About 12 Noon I received word that the CTC Board had met and had decided that CTC would end a day early, at 5 PM on Friday afternoon. This would allow cruisers about 24 hours to get out of town before the storm. We all knew as long as CTC was going on, many of the cruisers were not going to leave. So it was a good decision, just hate that the biggest Cruisin The Coast ever had to be cut short. Friday we ate at the White Cap Seafood Restaurant, one of my favorites, we all ate too much! The normal Sunday morning Cash Drawings ($20,000) were held on Saturday morning where they gave away the 40 $500 drawings, the Make A Wish 36 Ford Truck and unveiled the raffle car for 2018, a 1968 RS Camaro Coupe. I like to always buy tickets, (1 for $10 or 3 for $25) it's a great cause and maybe one day I will win!

CTC is such a great event, the hardest thing as I've always said is trying to explain to someone who has never been what CTC is like. I get to see cruisers from all over, some I just see during CTC. I didn't get to talk with everyone that stopped by the Hot Rod Show trailer, some I just got to wave at. But thanks to everyone that stopped by, it really made my day. See you next year at America”s Largest Block Party, Cruisin The Coast!. til next month… Terry

Cruisin’ to the Creek 2017 Hosted by First Coast Car Council Story & Photos by: Brian Barsema Oct 7, 2017 - Cruisin’ to the Creek car show. This amazing little show every year is hosted at Trout Creek Marina and fish camp in St Augustine Florida. Usually this show is hosted the weekend before Cruisin the Coast in Mississippi and is stop off show going to the bigger show. This year it fell during the last weekend of Cruisin the Coast and right after our hurricane graced us with a visit. This year 187 cars registered and helped raise 5000 dollars for Ronald McDonald House Charities. The 187 cars were all extremely different and made a nice car show to walk through. The grounds covered in old oaks makes this show a picture takers paradise with every type car type you could want on the grounds. This year’s hurricane season saying you can have a storm, this state can have a storm took a major toll on this show. The decreased vendors, and pure numbers told the story of an area hurting. I hope everyone no matter where you’re at you made it through with as little damage as possible. I myself took damage to my truck good it’s a n old beat up antique with a flamethrower. I would like to thank all that came out and braved the heat and made this show possible. To all diehards that made this show go on despite heat and rain, I hope next year this show can come back to full glory and maybe add activities like an evening cruise to Downtown St Augustine or locations to the show. Walking through shows I run across many different groups raising money for many fundraisers of all types. This month I ask you to think about your Veterans. No matter where I go I seem to run into Pinups now that my wife does it regularly and semiprofessionally. Whether in Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, or Florida these ladies not only help work these shows we attend, and they have hearts of gold helping the Veterans. Pinup groups like Pinups for Patriots, Heels for Combat Boots, and many other independent groups across the nation raise money for the many Veterans organizations and fundraisers around the world. I like assisting with K9s for Warriors, myself. They train service dogs for PTSD TBI MST former service members. Helping grant former service members a companion and a helper. November 11 is going to be a busy day for I have two shows. First my Club show in Orange Park Florida “Back to The Fifties” with the Clay County Cruzers and I will make my way to Jacksonville for the Dog Tags and Lint Brushes Car Show raising money for K9s for Warriors. Hair for the ladies and cars for the guys all for a good cause. Come by and I will be giving out Gulf Coast Motorsports Magazines at both locations.

(Continued from page 19)

the future, only omniscient specialists will remain. 6A. Watson already helps nurses diagnosing cancer, its 4 times more accurate than human nurses. 7. Facebook now has a pattern recognition software that can recognize faces better than humans. In 2030, computers will become more intelligent than humans. 8. Autonomous cars: In 2018 the first self driving cars will appear for the public. Around 2020, the complete industry will start to be disrupted. You don't want to own a car anymore. You will call a car with your phone, it will show up at your location and drive you to your destination. You will not need to park it you only pay for the driven distance and can be productive while driving. The very young children of today will never get a driver's license and will never own a car. 8A. It will change the cities, because we will need 90-95% less cars for that. We can transform former parking spaces into parks. 1.2 million people die each year in car accidents worldwide. We now have one accident every 60,000 mi, with autonomous driving that will drop to 1 accident in 6 million mi. That will save a million lives worldwide each year. 8B. Most car companies will doubtless become bankrupt. Traditional car companies try the evolutionary approach and just build a better car, while tech companies (Tesla, Apple, Google) will do the revolutionary approach and build a computer on wheels. 8C. Many engineers from Volkswagen and Audi; are completely terrified of Tesla. 9. Insurance companies will have massive trouble because, without accidents, the insurance will become 100x cheaper. Their car insurance business model will disappear. 10. Real estate will change. Because if you can work while you commute, people will move further away to live in a more beautiful neighborhood. 11. Electric cars will become mainstream about 2020. Cities will be less noisy because all new cars will run on electricity. 12. Electricity will become incredibly cheap and clean: Solar production has been on an exponential curve for 30 years, but you can now see the burgeoning impact. 13. Last year, more solar energy was installed worldwide than fossil. Energy companies are desperately trying to limit access to the grid to prevent competition from home solar installations, but that simply cannot continue - technology will take care of that strategy 14. With cheap electricity comes cheap and abundant water. Desalination of salt water now only needs 2kWh per cubic meter (@ 0.25 cents). We don't have scarce water in most places, we only have scarce drinking water. Imagine what will be possible if anyone can have as much clean water as he wants, for nearly no cost. 15. Health: The Tricorder X price will be announced this year. There are companies who will build a medical device (called the "Tricorder" from Star Trek) that works with your phone, which takes your retina scan, your blood sample and you breath into it. It then analyses 54 bio-markers that will identify nearly any disease. It will be cheap, so in a few years everyone on this planet will have access to world class medical analysis, nearly for free. 16. 3D printing: The price of the cheapest 3D printer came down from $18,000 to $400 within 10 years. In the same time, it became 100 times faster. All major shoe companies have already started 3D printing shoes. 17. Some spare airplane parts are already 3D printed in remote airports. The space station now has a printer that eliminates the need for the large amount of spare parts they used to have in the past. 18. At the end of this year, new smart phones will have 3D scanning possibilities. You can then 3D scan your feet and print your perfect shoe at home. 19. In China, they already 3D printed and built a complete 6-story office building. By 2027, 10% of everything that's being produced will be 3D printed. 20. Business opportunities: If you think of a niche you want to go in, first ask yourself: "In the future, do I think we will have that?" and if the answer is yes, how can you make that happen sooner? 20A. If it doesn't work with your phone, forget the idea. Any idea designed for success in the 20th century is doomed to failure in the 21st century. 20B. Work: 70-80% of jobs will disappear in the next 20 years. There will be a lot of new jobs, but it is not clear if there will be enough new jobs in such a short time. 21. Agriculture: There will be a $100 agricultural robot in the future. Farmers in 3rd world countries can then become managers of their field instead of working all day on their fields. 22. Aeroponics will need much less water. The first Petri dish produced veal is now available and will be cheaper than cow produced veal in 2018. Right now, 30% of all agricultural surfaces is used for cows. Imagine if we don't need that space anymore. 23. There are several startups who will bring insect protein to the market shortly. It contains more protein than meat. It will be labeled as "alternative protein source" (because most people still reject the idea of eating insects).
