“Quit worrying about how everything is going to turn out. Live one day at a time; better yet, make the most of this moment. It’s good to have a big – picture outlook, to set goals, to establish budgets and make plans, but if you’re always living in the future, you’re never really enjoying the present in the way God wants you to.” .. …… Joel Osteen I would like to take a little inspiration from the Joel Osteen philosophy. Most of us need a little reminder about the direction in life we travel. I try and keep my political views in check because I know not everyone has the same point of view. But I’m sure most of you who are reading this rely on the fact that you can call the cops should the need arise. True... sometimes you wish they didn’t stop you as you were speeding or rolling thru a stop sign but that is the price you pay for that decision. What if you really needed someone to be there for you in time of crisis? Our first responders are so important today. From the cops, firemen, medics, military and so on. When we think about our closest friends we say we have each other’s back, but truth is often as not we will call for help. With the world in turmoil and the groups of people who are making it difficult for our “Cavalry” to arrive, due to suspicions of ambush, I make a plea to our Southern Redneck community to join the BLUE TEAM BACKUP . Be supportive! Pull over and watch for impending dangers or suspicious activities that may take place. Be another watchful eye. Till next month…… Jimbo

"The Greatest Generation"
Born in the 1930s and early 40s, we exist as a very special age cohort. We are the Silent Generation. We are the smallest number of children born since the early 1900s. We are the "last ones." We are the last generation, climbing out of the depression, who can remember the winds of war and the impact of a world at war which rattled the structure of our daily lives for years. We are the last to remember ration books for everything from gas to sugar to shoes to stoves. We saved tin foil and poured fat into tin cans. We hand mixed ’white stuff’ with ‘yellow stuff’ to make fake butter. We saw cars up on blocks because tires weren't available. We can remember milk being delivered to our house early in the morning and placed in the “milk box” on the porch. We are the last to hear Roosevelt's radio assurances and to see gold stars in the front windows of our grieving neighbors. We can also remember the parades on August 15, 1945; VJ Day. We saw the 'boys' home from the war build their Cape Cod style houses, pouring the cellar, tar papering it over and living there until they could afford the time and money to build it out. We are the last generation who spent childhood without television; instead we imagined what we heard on the radio. As we all like to brag, with no TV, we spent our childhood "playing outside until the street lights came on." We did play outside and we did play on our own. There was no little league. There was no city playground for kids. To play in the water, we turned the fire hydrants on and ran through the spray. The lack of television in our early years meant, for most of us, that we had little real understanding of what the world was like. Our Saturday afternoons, if at the movies, gave us newsreels of the war and the holocaust sandwiched in between westerns and cartoons. (Continued on page 8)

If all that wasn’t bad enough the worst was about to happen. The day it would crank over but not start... My buddy found a loose wire and said try it now. Everything happened so fast. It was suppose to be in park and I could swear it was…. I had the door open,…. reached in and turned the key. It fired up!! Jumped into reverse and the open door slammed my hand into a support beam, nearly taking off two of my fingers. Now it's not only Christine but the PUNISHER TOO!!!. Am I going to keep it?,... don't know. The radio does not work. But if it starts playing Pledging my Love...I'm through…
Chaz McKenzie
Jimbo, This is a story about Buyer Beware and why I named my truck ‘Christine’ the PUNISHER. I purchased a 1985 S-10 back in March. I was drawn in by its allure of sound and speed, so much I didn't even check the oil. Big mistake! I wonder if the seller knew it was three quarts low? Only one day after I brought it home I had to call a wrecker.. and then purchase a new alternator and battery. I wonder if the seller knew about that too? The 4th day of owning ‘Christine’, the intake gasket blew. Again did the seller know something? I took ‘Christine’ to one of the best engine builders in Harrison County and a month later my truck was ready. With new aluminum heads my engine was roaring and ready to take it to the drag strip. Hmmm...near disaster!!!!... Coming off the line I shifted from 2nd gear to 3rd gear (around 80 mph) the truck lost traction, … I lost control,….. the truck did a 360 and almost flipped. It was all I could do to control it. When it came down on the rear driver wheel the axle broke. I watched as the axle and wheel flew out behind me. Only thing that saved me was when it came down it landed on the traction bar. Again, ‘Christine’ was on a wrecker. Now,...when I purchased the truck I was told it had Moser axles, 410 gears, and positive traction. And when a friend of mine went to replace the axel, he found stock axles and a welded spider gear. lied to again! Think the seller knew?

Jimbo, This is what all of us: 70+, other seniors, and kids (south of 60) have to look forward to!! This is something that happened at an assisted living center. The people who lived there have small apartments but they all eat at a central cafeteria. One morning one of the residents didn't show up for breakfast so my wife went upstairs and knocked on his door to see if everything was OK. She could hear him through the door and he said that he was running late and would be down shortly so she went back to the dining area. An hour later he still hadn't arrived so she went back up towards his room and she found him on the stairs. He was coming down the stairs but was having a hell of time. He had a death grip on the hand rail and seemed to have trouble getting his legs to work right. She told him she was going to call an ambulance but he told her no, he wasn't in any pain and just wanted to have his breakfast. So she helped him the rest of the way down the stairs and he had his breakfast. When he tried to return to his room he was completely unable to get up even the first step so they called an ambulance for him. A couple hours later she called the hospital to see how he was doing. The receptionist there said he was fine, he just had both of his legs in one leg of his boxer shorts.

Fuzzee Report on Bayfest 2016 On June 4th, I attended the Bayfest Car Show in Bay Springs with my son Eric and daughter Ellen. 84 cars were in attendance. Weather was threatening but held off. Mark Ishee brought his recently acquired '64 Chevy Malibu convertible.
The Scarecrow 2016 Countdown Is On!
Hi Everybody, The Lord blessed our Fun Run with fantastic fellowship and beautiful weather. Me and Teresa want to thank each and every one of you for participating in this exciting event. I am positive our Veteran's enjoyed the day as much as we did. This was our best attendance ever !! Thirty eight vehicles and motorcycles at the Jackson Home, three more joined us for lunch and eight more at the Kosciusko Home making a total of 49 registered participant vehicles. We only had one vehicle hiccup and it was expertly handled by Thomas Yates, one of our sponsors and owner of TJ & Holley's Rod Shop. Bobby Hodge had a shifting problem with the 50 Ford he was driving. A stop at the Rod Shop had Thomas quickly diagnosing the problem; a missing cotter key. It wasn't long before they were back in the Fun Run. I hear tell that it was faster than any NASCAR pit stop....ever !!! Cool !! I want to take a minute and personally thank a few really great people. Mr. JC Tyler, for all his behind the scenes work coordinating with the Nursing Homes, Police Departments and preforming "Tailman" duties. No one left behind when JC is on the job !! Mr. James Young, for taking the lead on the Kosciusko leg. It's great having a leader and Police Escort Coordinator that knows where he is and where he's going. Ms. Zen Wendel, draftee volunteer, for helping Teresa with the registration. Now that Zen is a Veteran we look forward to her re-call to duty next year. We collected $ 760 to be divided between the 2 Home's activity accounts. I am already excited about next year's Run to Collins and lunch at Berry's Seafood, Florence. We will be moving the Run to the second Saturday in June, so mark your calendars accordingly. How about tee shirt's? Any interest? If you have any ideas or suggestions on how to improve the Fun Run, please, don't hesitate to contact me. Thanks for supporting the Fun Run and making it a BIG success!! Remember to support our Sponsors; it's their dedication and contributions that makes this a free event.
Story by Scarecrow Executive Director Keith Bates Mark your calendars for the 13th Annual Scarecrow Cruise and Car Show. October 21 & 22, 2016 This year you are in for treat, maybe even a car show spectacular! We will have more cars and trucks than ever on display, more food vendors, new vendors, new show car parking spaces and new featured displays including the monster truck "Gun Slinger" owned by USM and Green Bay Packer great Brett Favre. And that doesn't even include the "Mouth of the South" Dave Worman. We are also finalizing details for our all new Friday night party that you will not want to miss. As you will see in the following photos, the Scarecrow poster and registration form photography have been taken. On Sunday, May 22, The Commemorative Air Force celebrated a grand opening of their new hanger located at Bruce Campbell Field in Madison. And as luck would have it, they had aircraft (or "War Birds" if you will) from all over the southeast fly-in and display their vintage war birds from various theaters dating back to World War II. Being the opportunist I am, I asked if we could shot a few photos of the war planes for our poster background. Permission was granted and here is a sampling of our "few shots". (Actually, we took roughly 500 shots).
A special Thank You to: 1948 fashion model- Lisa Parenteau Scarecrow character and featured 1948 Chrysler Windsor owner: Henri Fusalier Photographer: Lonnie Kees, Kees Photography Hair, wardrobe and makeup: Freda Bates Wardrobe: Hot Couture Vintage Fashion, Los Angeles, California Bruce Campbell Field, Manager: Rheese Lincecum Commemorative Air Force: Chris Kyler So stand by for more details and mark your calendar now for Scarecrow 2016. Top Ten Reasons God Created Eve: 10. God was worried that Adam would frequently become lost in the garden because he would not ask for directions. 9. God knew that one day Adam would require someone to locate and hand him the remote. 8. God knew Adam would never go out and buy himself a new fig leaf when his wore out and would therefore need Eve to buy one for him. 7. God knew Adam would never be able to make a doctor's, dentist, or haircut appointment for himself. 6. God knew Adam would never remember which night to put the garbage on the curb. 5. God knew if the world was to be populated, men would never be able to handle the pain and discomfort of childbearing. 4. As the Keeper of the Garden, Adam would never remember where he left his tools. 3. Apparently, Adam needed someone to blame his troubles on when God caught him hiding in the garden. 2. As the Bible says, It is not good for man to be alone! And the #1 reason why God created Eve... 1. When God finished the creation of Adam, He stepped back, scratched his head, and said, "I can do better than that!"

Gizmos Carriage House AKA Poppys Garage August 2016 During my adventures in hot rodding and messing with cars, I have been very blessed with being taken in by the folks in this hobby with, lets just say more miles under their belts. It has been easy for me to relate to those with much more experience in all things gearhead related. There probably are a few reasons for that. I think first and foremost it was due to my sincere interest, I always asked questions, and believe I listened attentively to those answers. Always thanking those folks for their response was probably another good move too. Second reason was the fact I wasn't afraid to try something that I had never done before. I learned a lot of things by making mistakes before perfecting a skill. I was never afraid to discuss those failures with the more experienced and seasoned folks either, this may have shown them my sincerity also. Last but certainly not the least, I showed respect for those who had traveled these roads before me. In my short travels down these roads I've attempted to do the same for the young folks involved in this as well as with the younger spectators, the ones that attend on a Saturday afternoon looking at the old cool cars. I always try to make a small connection when they stop to take a look or ask what kind of car this is or show a spark of interest. I usually (with their parents permission) let them sit in my car and pretend they are driving, and of course invite their parents to take their child's picture behind the wheel. Its just my way in hoping to create the next car or truck enthusiast. This may or may not encourage them but I know from the smiles from both the parent and the child it is a good thing. And I always make a point after this meeting to explain that unless you are given permission please do not touch the other cars. Most of us have collected numerous plaques and awards for our vehicles as well. Lately after receiving one of these nice awards I find a child walking or being pushed in a stroller or a wheelchair, and repurpose the nice prize I generously received. Those smiles are to say the least priceless, as well as the reactions of the parent. I guess the point I am trying to make is I don't care what the young crowd is doing with and to cars and trucks. I don't care if its old or new, foreign or domestic, jacked up sky high or dragging bumpers and tail pipes. Or if it has a muffler on it as large as a coffee can. As long as they are messing with these things I respect them. Its easy for us to forget our early experiences in this stuff. It was also easy for us older guys with the choice of our first cars too. We had a readily available supply of old junk/ classics to work with. Its all about perspective too, a young person in his/her twenties today was born in the 90s, its kind of easy to see their first cool car (to them) may have been

Who Might Buy My Old Car??
This young lady got an Award for keeping a close watch over her grandparents, Calvin and Vincalee, and being the nicest little girl at the recent American Legion Auxiliary show.. something from the 80s or even up to the 2000s. So the next time we are sitting around telling stories and see one of the young folks come through with something we may not agree with, please be a little receptive and more open minded with the ride of his or her choice. We just may be able to influence them and encourage them to become the next customizer or engine builder, or who knows what they may become, just as long as we welcome the fact they are involved with all things automotive and the freedom we enjoy to do what we all do. Invite a kid to a car show or cruise night, or involve a kid in a project vehicle, it will forever be an investment in time and energy that will pay a dividend that is priceless. Last but not least August is a busy month for birthdays and Anniversaries, (in my life anyway). My parents Anniversary will be on the 1st, the Queens Birthday is Aug 16th, and number two son is the 18th. Congratulations and Much Happiness to all. Later and do try to stay cool Gizmo

Jimbo, There are about 300 million people in the US who could theoretically buy my old car. . . . but, about 150 million of them are too young, too old, too sick, and so on . . . . so, that leaves 150 million people in the US who could theoretically buy my old car. Statistics say 71% of those people earn less than $50,000 per year, too poor to buy my old car. That leaves 45 million people in the US who could theoretically buy my old car. Over 50% of those people are women who are unlikely to consider buying my old car. That leaves about 20 million men in the US who could theoretically buy my old car. About 90% of those men would not ever consider buying my old car. That leaves about 2 million men in the US who could theoretically buy my old car. Only about 5% of those men would consider buying my 1949 to 1953 Ford car. That leaves about 100,000 men in the US who could theoretically buy my old car. Probably 99% of those men would buy my old car if I'd sell it at a very, very low price. That leaves about 1,000 men in the US who could theoretically buy my old car at a fair price. About 90% of those men would need to sell their old car before buying mine. That leaves about 100 men in the US who could theoretically buy my old car at a fair price. About 90% of those men would not likely buy an old car more often than once in 10 years. That leaves about 10 men who could theoretically buy my old car at a fair price this year. At least 9 of those 10 men have some objection to the body style, color, engine, condition. . that leaves one man who could theoretically buy my old car at a fair price this year. . . .but, his wife just read his mind and told him to not even think about buying my old car. . . . so, that leaves NOBODY who could ACTUALLY buy my old car at a fair price this year without getting shot by his wife. . . .But, he just heard her shooting at a target in the backyard, and he's not sure whether she shot 5 or 6 times. . . . so, “WHAT DO YOU SAY, PUNK? DO YOU FEEL LUCKY?” Buy my car and “MAKE HER DAY”. Sincerely,
mrlonranger@

Telephones were one to a house, often shared and hung on the wall. Computer were called calculators and were hand cranked; typewriters were driven by pounding fingers, throwing the carriage, and changing the ink. The ‘internet’ and ‘GOOGLE’ were words that didn’t exist. Newspapers and magazines were written for adults. We are the last group who had to find out for ourselves. As we grew up, the country was exploding with growth. The G.I. Bill gave returning veterans the means to get an education and spurred colleges to grow. VA loans fanned a housing boom. Pent up demand coupled with new installment payment plans put factories to work. New highways would bring jobs and mobility. The veterans joined civic clubs and became active in politics. In the late 40s and early 50's the country seemed to lie in the embrace of brisk but quiet order as it gave birth to its new middle class (which became known as ‘Baby Boomers’). The radio network expanded from 3 stations to thousands stations. The telephone started to become a common method of communications and "Faxes" sent hard copy around the world. Our parents were suddenly free from the confines of the depression and the war and they threw themselves into exploring opportunities they had never imagined. We weren't neglected but we weren't today's allconsuming family focus. They were glad we played by ourselves 'until the street lights came on.' They were busy discovering the post war world. Most of us had no life plan, but with the unexpected virtue of ignorance and an economic rising tide we simply stepped into the world and started to find out what the world was about. We entered a world of overflowing plenty and opportunity; a world where we were welcomed. Based on our naïve belief that there was more where this came from, we shaped life as we went. We enjoyed a luxury; we felt secure in our future. Of course, just as today, not all Americans shared in this experience. Depression poverty was deep rooted. Polio was still a crippler. The Korean War was a dark presage in the early 50s and by mid-decade school children were ducking under desks. Russia built the “Iron Curtin” and China became Red China. Eisenhower sent the first 'advisors' to Vietnam; and years later, Johnson invented a war there. Castro set up camp in Cuba and Khrushchev came to power. We are the last generation to experience an interlude when there were no existential threats to our homeland. We came of age in the 40s and early 50s. The war was over and the cold war, terrorism, Martin Luther King, civil rights, technological upheaval, “global warming”, and perpetual economic insecurity had yet to haunt life with insistent unease. Only our generation can remember both a time of apocalyptic war and a time when our world was secure and full of bright promise and plenty. We have lived through both. We grew up at the best possible time, a time when the world was getting better; not worse. We are the Silent Generation; 'the last ones.' The last of us was born in 1942, more than 99.9% of us are either retired or dead; and all of us believe we grew up in the best of times ..Author unknown

BILL OF NO RIGHTS By: Lewis Napper We, the sensible people of the United States, in a attempt to help everyone get along, restore some semblance of justice, avoid any more riots, keep our nation safe, promote positive behavior, and secure the great-great-great grandchildren, hereby try one more time to ordain and establish some common sense guidelines for the terminally whiny, guilt ridden, delusional, and other liberal bedwetters. We hold these truths to be self-evident: that a whole lot of people are confused by the Bill of Rights and are so dim that they require a “Bill of No Rights.” ARTICLE I: You do not have the right to a new car, big screen T.V. or any other form of wealth. More power to you if you can legally acquire them, but no one is guaranteeing anything. ARTICLE II: You do not have the right to never be offended. This country is based on freedom, and that means freedom for everyone-not just you! You may leave the room, turn the channel, express a different opinion, etc., but the world is full of idiots, and probably always will be. ARTICLE III: You do not have the right to be free from harm. If you stick a screwdriver in your eye, learn to be more careful. Do not expect the manufacturer to make you and all your relatives independently wealthy. ARTICLE IV: You do not have the right to free food and housing. Americans are the most charitable people to be found, and will gladly help anyone in need, but we are quickly growing weary of subsidizing generation after generation of professional couch potatoes who achieve nothing more than the creation of another generation of professional couch potatoes. ARTICLE V: You do not have the right to free health care. That would be nice, but from the looks of public housing, we’re just not interested in public health care.
ARTICLE VI: You do not have the right to physically harm other people. If you kidnap, rape, intentionally maim, or kill someone, don’t be surprised if the rest of us want to see you fry in the electric chair. ARTICLE VII: You do not have the right to the possessions of others. If you rob, cheat or coerce away the goods or services of other citizens, don’t be surprised if the rest of us get together and lock you away in a place where you still won’t have the right to a big screen color TV or a life of leisure. ARTICLE VIII: You don’t have the right to demand that our children risk their lives in foreign wars to soothe your aching conscience. We hate oppressive governments and won’t lift a finger to stop you from going to fight if you’d like. However, we do not enjoy parenting the entire world and do not want to spend so much of our time battling each and every little tyrant with a military uniform and a funny hat. ARTICLE IX: You don’t have the right to a job. All of us sure want all of you to have one, and will gladly help you along in hard times, but we expect you to take advantage of the opportunities of education and vocational training laid before you to make yourself useful. ARTICLE X: You do not have the right to happiness. Being an American means that you have the right to pursue happiness which, by the way, is a lot easier if unencumbered by laws created by those of you who were confused by the Bill of Rights. If you agree, we strongly urge you to pass this to as many people as you can. No, you don't have to, and nothing tragic will befall you should you not forward it. We just think it is about time common sense is allowed to flourish — call it the age of reason revisited. Lewis Napper "Bill of No Rights" was written in 1993 by Lewis Napper, a self-described amateur philosopher and from Mississippi who ran for a U.S. Senate seat in 2000 as a Libertarian.
You pick up a hitchhiker ... a beautiful girl. Suddenly, she faints inside your truck and you take her to the hospital. Now that's stressful. But at the hospital, they say she is pregnant and congratulate you that you're going to be a father. You say that you are not the father, but the girl says you are. This is getting very stressful! You request a DNA test to prove that you are not the father. After the tests are completed, the doctor says the test shows you're infertile, and probably have been since birth. You're extremely stressed, but relieved. On your way back home, you think about your 5 kids at home. NOW THATS STRESS!!!

It is hot…the older I get the hotter it seems to be. I will perform at a car show this time of the year, but I don’t pursue them. I have used this time to devote a considerable amount of time and money to improving the Hot Rod Show. I guess I will never stop tweaking the show. My vision of the show has always been that the middle 1950’s to the mid 1970’s was the greatest period for cars, music, history, TV shows, movies and innovation. I present that period… hopefully in a way that takes car enthusiasts on an incredible trip down memory lane, it is a passion I hope that never wanes in me. Hopefully you will enjoy these upgrades at a car show near you very soon. Some are very noticeable, some are more subtle. Saturday morning July 16 I got up early, for a Saturday… at 6:30 am. (The only things that will get me up that early on the weekend… is a car show or a fishing trip.) This particular Saturday it was the 38th Annual Mississippi Watermelon Festival Car Show in Mize, MS. I have always loved eating watermelon, that love affair started as a child, as my family always celebrated summer holidays and special events with watermelon has one of its side items. As a child, age 9-13 I would pick watermelon and tomatoes as a way to earn spending money. I really despised both jobs and couldn’t wait until each ended and I received my $5 to head out to the local public pool to socialize and spend it on swimming, snacks, the juke box and girls. It’s not that my family didn’t give me money, but this extra money would make a 10 year old boy rich, lol. Watermelons were the worst of the two jobs. I was normally put inside the farm truck with high sides as a catcher, since I was always the youngest boy on the crew. As the truck traveled down the watermelon rows, multiple boys would pick and throw the melons to me and another boy inside the bed of the truck. With multiple boys picking and throwing, it was constant motion for the catchers. Some of those melons would take me to my knees as I caught them to the chagrin of the other boys, but there is nothing better to this day on a hot summer day than a cold slice of watermelon. I had no idea where Mize, Mississippi was…so I had to Google it. Traveling on Hwy 49 north from the Coast, about 20 miles north on Collins, MS you turn right (east) on Hwy 35 and travel about 10 miles and you run right in to downtown Mize. I called ahead and talked with Max to let him know I was coming and make sure the Hot Rod Show golf cart was OK to bring in. I arrived just before 11 am and the car show was well underway with over 100 cars already on display. I think the official total ended up at 107. Mize has a Mayberry USA feel to it. I love the rural small town feel to a community, they are literally time capsules. A good looking field of cars and trucks were on display as you’ll see in the photos I took from the event. Entertainment Friday and Saturday night included the group “Exile” and country music star “Darryl Worley.” Many Arts and Craft vendors, food vendors, a few rides, kids’ activities, cooling off in a creek that ran through the event was very popular and of course plenty of watermelon. A really nice event for the whole family!

Most folks that attend car shows have learned to show respect to anyone taking photos of cars and quickly get out of the way. Now that is the last thing I need when I go to cover a car show. My job is to capture the enjoyment of people attending a car show and I try to capture it naturally. The worst thing is photos of a car show where it appears there is no one there, lol! So I have to be sneaky or folks will scatter faster than kids running to get cold watermelon on a hot summer day. The new Hot Rod Show golf cart was awesome for being quiet and quick. But still I would see a good group of people looking at a car and before I could get the shot the crowd would have moved on. You’re shooting a moving target. One guy was looking under the hood of a car and just as I was about to shoot, pulled his head out, I asked him to put his head back in there… which he did for me.
The crowds were good at this car show, but that is something I always struggle with… getting folks in the shots. I made about 10 or more passes through the show to try and get the best photos for you. I typically take over 100 and cull down to the ones you see here now. It’s just the nature of the beast. Now you know what to look for when looking at car show photos. You’ve probably judged a car show by the number of people you saw in the photos and never even realized it. Some photographers understand they have a responsibly to adequately represent a show and some don’t get it themselves. It’s always good to get out of town and attend a car show you’ve never been to before. The Smith County Cruisers have a keeper here with the Mississippi Watermelon Festival Car Show! Get your Hot Rod out on the road and enjoy that 17 FOREVER, fun state of mind! til next month…

I remember the advertisements well. The ones in the magazines advertising go- karts. I would dream of designing my own, with features that would allow it to be driven on the street. I would sketch new ideas and improve upon old ones. I am not saying my mind wandered during classroom time at school. I am not saying that at all. I am also not saying that it didn’t. Those were art skills I was honing while drawing go-karts and cars while the teacher taught! It is my belief that the first go-cart (kart) was in 1956. Famous race car builder for Kurtis Kraft, Art Ingel built a kart out of scrap metal and a West Bend two stroke engine. It was tested at the Rose Bowl in California and gained an immediate following. The early karting “craze” launched an array of karting articles and advertisements in automotive magazines. The hot rodding magazines, sports car magazines, “Mechanics Illustrated”, “Popular Science”, “Car’toons,” and even the comic books of the era carried advertisements for go-karts. The carts or karts of 1959 were sometimes unusual, but they were also unique. This was a fledgling industry. Some of the 1959 offerings were: Cool Cart, Caper Cart, and Swoopster,. This is by no means a complete list. By the beginning of 1960, Go Kart Manufacturing was making a 400B model and Bug, but had not introduced their Wasp. Things were about to grow up in a hurry! By 1961, most of the crude and often misguided at cart designs had disappeared from the scene. The use of cart and kart appeared to be used interchangeably, which ever name suited the manufacturer’s purpose, or the preference of the person speaking or writing about them. There were too many brands of go-carts to remember, but I will mention a few in this article. This is not nearly a complete list. Some were: Go Kart Mfg., Simplex, Rupp, Evans, Fox, Bird Engineering, Percival Hellcat, Rathmann xterminator, Bear, Track Rabbit, Comet, Bug Engineering, Acer Racer, Kavalla Kart, Ala Kart, Rolfe Kart, Cool Cart and Caretta Kart. I must not forget Jack McClure’s Rocket-Powered Kart in the 1980’s and the X.T.K. (stood for Experimental Turbine Kart) from 1963. This was the bubble top dream kart built by Bob Horn of Cincinnati, Ohio. This kart was powered by an experimental turbine producing 13 HP at 32,000 RPM. All functions

were displayed with the obligatory angel hair carpeting, of course. The karting phenomenon grew up a lot in 1960 and probably peaked in 1962. I could go into more detail on how heads were milled, cranks stroked, and other methods used to turn 5 HP stock engines into 10 HP screamers, but I don’t have space in this article. Perhaps I will tackle this in a future article if there is an interest. Karting today is much different than it was in its’ infancy, but it is no less fun. They still stick to the ground like glue! There is a fun factor in karting that cannot be overlooked. Even at my advanced age I still enjoy the thrill of driving a go-kart. (Especially with my daughter and my grandchildren) Uncle Ezra says: “We don’t remember days…we remember moments.” Gotta Cruise!

on this kart could be remote controlled including start, stop, reverse, and operating the bubble top. The framework was a 4130 Chrome Moly birdcage space frame. The brakes were modified Bendix and the tires were special Hoffco whitewalls. If you remember, customized karts often appeared at custom car shows, complete with custom upholstery, metalflaked chassis, and chromed over MC-20’s. They

How to get a Flawless Fake Tan By Candy Cocktail Today retailers offer an array of sunless tanning products. As a primarily Irish and Belgian girl, my skin is naturally white and extremely pale. Actually pale is probably an understatement. I never get a dark brown tan in the sun; I just get more freckles and sunburn, so I have been wearing sunless tanner, AKA fake tan or tan in a can, since I was in 9th grade. For this reason, I consider myself a fake tan expert. I have wanted to do an article about sunless tanner for quite some time now as it is one of the beauty subjects that I regularly get asked for advice about. While I have learned to embrace my porcelain colored complexion, I still love the tanned look moreover. All of my girlfriends know I am an expert on ‘the fake tan’ so over the years I have had many of the gals ask me about what products are best and how to use them successfully. Particularly because sunless tanner can come out blotchy and streaky if not done correctly, many women are intimidated by it, leaving them wanting a tan, yet too afraid to try it for fear they will mess it up disastrously. Well fear not; below is my fake tan how-to guide that will leave you looking naturally and beautifully bronzed. I have tried many different styles and brands of sunless tanner. There are some good brands that run about $25-$30 per bottle. However, the way that I go through fake tan regularly, that gets costly. So I have used a variety of L’Oréal brands’ sunless tanners regularly for about 12 years. The L’Oréal products cost about $7$12 each. They are by far the best value for the price. My favorite L’Oréal products are L’Oréal Sublime Bronze SelfTanning Lotion, L’Oréal Body Expertise Sublime Bronze SelfTanning Lotion and the product that I use most often, L’Oréal Sublime Bronze Self-Tanning Towelettes. You can find all three products at stores like Walmart, Target, Walgreens and CVS. L'Oréal Sublime Bronze Self-Tanning Lotion will give you more of a shimmery, bronze color. Think of a highlighter added into a sunless tanner. Since it comes out a sparkly brown color, it is easier to see where you have used it and if some areas of your body have more color than others. L'Oréal Body Expertise Sublime Bronze SelfTanning Lotion, Medium Natural Tan, SPF 15 Sunscreen is the most moisturizing of the three products. It will leave your skin feeling extremely soft. However, this lotion is white so it can be a little more difficult to see which areas may have too much color or not enough. With all sunless tanners, they do not prevent sunburn so if you do go into the sun make sure to still apply sunscreen. I have very sensitive skin so most sunscreens itch, irritate and make my skin and face breakout. If you are looking for a sunscreen that provides protection without causing irritation, I suggest using SkinMedica Environmental Defense Sunscreen SPF 50+. It provides water-resistant skin protection for 80 minutes. Elizabeth Arden and Avon Skin So Soft both make great sunscreens for sensitive skin. An SPF 15 sunscreen blocks 93% of UVB radiation, while an SPF 30 sunscreen blocks nearly 97%, but sunbathers must apply enough sunscreen to receive the full protection of the lotion. Even though the higher the SPF is, the more it helps prevent sun damage, sunscreens beyond 50 SPF do not give much additional protection. Dermatologists urge consumers to purchase products with SPFs no less than 30 and no higher than 50 because the ones that do not fall into that category give purchasers a false sense of additional protection which they do not truly give. While we are on the subject of fake tan, I will tell you in complete honesty that there are not any sunless tanning products that I know of that do not come off some in water. Salespeople may not

want to tell you the tinted truth, but in regards to how long the tanner will last after it is applied, it really just depends on you and how often you shower, bathe or swim. L'Oréal Sublime Bronze Self-Tanning Towelettes are great because they are perfect for the gal on the go. The towelettes are each individually wrapped so you can throw one in your travel bag and do it later. Plus, once applied to skin, these dry the fastest. The tanner is quickly absorbed into the skin, so you will not have to wait as long for the product to absorb. With the above 2 creamy lotions, I would plan on letting it dry into your skin for about an hour before laying down, getting dressed or leaving your house.
So if you are reading this thinking, well what if I get caught in the rain or I am sweating, will the color come off? The answer is yes. You will lose some color. You will have less color with each sweat or water encounter, and what comes off will be tinted brown so just be cautious of it, especially if you are wearing white. However, your tan will still last for a few days. On average I would say about 4 days is reasonable to expect to get out of one tanning application when you take into consideration sweating and bathing. I typically apply it once a week when I am using it regularly. Even if this sounds like it takes too much time or could be a pain to use regularly, I still suggest using it, especially if you want it for a special occasion, say you want to look sleek and tanned for a cruise to the Bahamas or a high school reunion, I absolutely suggest using it. Each time you get wet you will lose a bit of your color. Gross as that may sound, it is something to think about when using the fake tan. That is one of the reasons I say to use it after the shower; you need to exfoliate your skin for a better application, but you should
www.GulfCoastMotorSports.com
also be freshly bathed because the tan will last longer. If you apply it and then take a shower, you will lose a lot of the color. So say for example you are going on a cruise, first take a shower, wash your hair, shave and do everything that you would to get ready to go anyways, and then add your fake tan after all of those things are done. The color will take a few hours to show up so if you want to look like a bronzed bathing beauty in your departure photo, be sure to plan on about 5 hours for the full color to develop. Usually in that situation, say if I was leaving to go on the cruise at 8 am, I would do everything before I went to bed the night before. Then you can wake up all ready to go.
typically need a heavier shade or an extra application to achieve the shade of tan color that we want. The towelettes are easy to use, especially if you are on vacation. I usually use two towelettes to tan my entire body; one for the bottom half of my body and one for the waist up. With whichever tanning product you choose, apply it to half of your body and wash your hands with soap. Then do the other half and stop to wash your hands again so your hands do not end up getting orange from having so many layers of tanner on them. Apply the tanner in a circular motion. If you have any trouble areas that come out darker, like the elbows and knees, mix a little lemon juice and baking soda and rub it on there. Leave it for about two minutes. Then rub the spot with a towel or loofah and it will clear up. As with anything, the more you use the sunless tanner, the easier it will become to get a flawless application. As for tanning your back, if you do not have someone to help you by applying it to your back for you, you can purchase a back tan applicator. I have a “BackHand Lotion Applicator that I use. You can purchase one at your local tanning salon or online and occasionally I have seen them for sale in stores. The color does take a while to develop. You cannot apply it just before going out on the town, hoping to have immediate color. I suggest planning on applying it 5-6 hours before you want your color to show. Also, allow a little extra time in case you need to do the lemon and baking soda scrub to fix any problem spots. Obviously sunless tanner helps to keep your skin free from sun damage, but likewise it will help you to look more slender and sculpted. The darker color can add shading, just like contouring makeup does for the face, application techniques can be used to accentuate and disguise certain areas. Think of how bodybuilders are so tan for competition, the tan can make you look more toned and defined.
The How-to The best time to apply your fake tan is after a bath or shower. During bathing, be sure to exfoliate your skin all over by using a loofah, making sure to thoroughly get the tops of your hands, your elbows, knees and ankles as these areas of our skin tend to be drier. You should exfoliate so that the tan will last longer plus it aids in getting a more even tan. You can use regular soap or shower gel on your loofah or give an astringent or exfoliating shower gel a try. However, I do not use any exfoliator with the tiny beads in it. Even though they are said to work better at cleansing, these beads do not dissolve and they end up in our oceans where they can kill marine life that is unable to digest the beads. If you have never used sunless tanner before, I suggest trying the towelettes or the bronzer first, as they are slightly easier to use. The shade of color really just depends on your preference and how much color you want. Some of you are fortunate to be more naturally tanned than I am, so you may just want to add a light application of bronzer. For those of you that are paler like me, we

Shameless Comic Book Ads That Cost Us Our Allowance Money Posted by: Tom Gotwols If today's Generation Y and Z-ers accuse us Baby Boomers of being cynical and distrustful, well, I for one blame it all on comic books. How many of us who grew up in the 1960s and early '70s were lured by those enticing ads promising everything from X-Ray vision to frolicking, crown -wearing sea monkey pets for a mere couple of bucks? It took (in my case) a best friend with a generous weekly allowance and two parents who worked outside of the home to open my young eyes to the sad fact that advertisements didn't always tell the truth.
1. X-Ray Specs I supposed the "optical illusion" disclaimer should've been a tip-off, but hey, who paid attention to fine print when the prospect of seeing through unsuspecting people's clothes was at your nose tip? In reality, the Specs weren't particularly discreet; they were pieces of cardboard printed with red and white hypnotic spirals and the words "X-Ray Vision" where the lenses should have been. Did they work? Well, if you studied your hand long enough against a bright light it kinda sorta looked as if you were seeing a blurry X-ray image, thanks to a feather glued inside each of the cardboard "lenses."
2. Sea Monkeys It's not surprising to learn that the man who patented XRay Specs, Harold von Braunhut, was the same entrepreneur who passed off brine shrimp as trainable pets. Those of us who parted with a hard-earned buck and a quarter learned not only that the "happiness" displayed in the bowlful was only observable through a magnifying glass, but also that the little creatures looked more like creepy flagellating bacteria than the Seuss-like cartoon characters featured in the ads. 3. Frontier Cabin

My friend (and co-conspirator in most of my mail-order mischief) Mary and I spent longer arguing over whose name should be on the free nameplate (she finally agreed with my logic that if they supplied a "Kara" tag it proved that these cabins really were made to order!) than we did playing with the stupid thing. Imagine our disappointment as we waited at her front door every day that summer when we heard the UPS truck rumbling down the street, only to have the mailman eventually hand us a padded 9"x14" manila envelope. Inside the package was a tightly folded vinyl sheet that had the design of a Frontier Cabin printed on it. It assumed cabin shape only after it was draped over a card table or some similar piece of furniture. And it was impossible to spend much time huddled inside the thing lest we became asphyxiated by the plastic-y vinyl fumes that clung to it.

4. Ventriloquist Device For only a quarter you could annoy your teachers and confound your parents?! I couldn't slap that six-cent postage stamp on the envelope fast enough! The gadget I received in exchange for that hard-earned 31 cents was something professional ventriloquists call a "swazzle." It was basically a modified tiny kazoo that you could (after much practice to avoid gagging on or swallowing the thing) conceal in your mouth and make squeaky, whistling highpitched noises. (Back in the days of Punch and Judy shows, the puppeteer who worked Mr. Punch used a swazzle to create the screechy incomprehensible vocalizations associated with the character.) Oh, and that tiny pamphlet that taught you "How to Become a Ventriloquist" did not mention the use of the swazzle at all, it simply gave hints on how to articulate words without moving your lips.
5. Charles Atlas Dynamic Tension Since I never felt the need to have Mr. Universe-sized biceps, I never sent away for the Charles Atlas program, but many millions of other comic book readers did. Who doesn't remember the full-page ad featuring the humiliation of the 97 lb. weakling named Mac getting sand kicked in his face at the beach? Said scrawny lad eventually returns to the beach with a newly buff physique after subscribing to the Charles Atlas Dynamic Tension program of exercise. The advertisement was based on the allegedly true story of Charles Atlas, who'd claimed to have sand kicked in his scrawny face at Coney Island by a husky lifeguard. As is often the case, truth is more boring than fiction. In reality, Angelo Siciliano (Atlas' birth name) had always been a strong child, and when he and his divorced mom moved from Italy to Brooklyn, New York, he lifted weights to further improve his physique. As a teen, he got a job demonstrating a chest expander in a department store window. He went on to win a bodybuilding contest and attempted to start his own mail-order business. However, his strengths didn't extend to marketing savvy, so he struggled until he hooked up with advertising exec Charles Roman. Roman rechristened Siciliano "Charles Atlas" and came up with the backstory of the puny guy losing his girl to a more
6. Kryptonite Rocks For the low price of $2.50 you could earn Superman's eternal gratitude by purchasing these Kryptonite rocks and keeping them out of the hands of the Forces of Evil. Skeptics in the audience might posit that these were nothing more than regular rocks painted glow-in-the-dark green, but how would they prove it? After all, if Superman never showed up at your house, the Kryptonite was obviously doing its job, right?
7. Fake Facial Hair Looking suave didn't come cheaply; at three bucks for either a Van Dyke or set of mutton chop sideburns, a happenin' dude with a limited income had to decide between "cool" or "distinguished." Luckily this paste-on facial fuzz came with a "complete guide" on how to properly wear your hair, lest some folks unclear on the concept glue a 'stache to their foreheads by mistake.
8. Free Miniature Monkey Once in a while, there is some justice to be found in the world. The above ad (sometimes a miniature dog was offered instead of the monkey) was placed by a mail order photo finishing company in Iowa called Dean Studios. In order to win a miniature animal, you had to not only distribute 20 coupons for Dean's services, those 20 people also had to place a minimum order with the company. The Federal Trade Commission got involved in 1960 and discovered that the company not only had never awarded a prize, they didn't even have access to any of the tiny creatures. An official Cease and Desist Letter was eventually issued.
9. P.F. Flyers P.F. Flyers were the Air Jordans of the 1960s. The brand advertised heavily in comic books and on TV and led many unsuspecting unathletic kids to believe that all they needed to not be chosen last in gym class was a pair of expensive sneakers. Even though (for a limited time only!) the shoes came with a free Johnny Quest Magic Ring (equipped with a magnifying glass, secret compartment, and code flasher), they still probably weren't your best line of defense in the event of a bear attack.
10. Hypno-Coin *Sigh* A whole buck for nothing more than a swirly pattern on a wiggle badge. That money back guarantee was also a sham, since you had to pay for the return postage (properly packaged and insured).
11. Polaris Submarine Obviously, since this puppy cost a whopping seven dollars (compared to the 10 and 50 cent items advertised), it had to be on the level. Living very near Lake St. Clair, Mary and I had all sorts of plans for our sub when it arrived – "we can sneak across to Canada without paying the toll!" Alas, chalk up one more childhood dream dashed; the "nuclear sub" was made of cardboard (which was shipped flat in a box and required assembly). The torpedo and rocket launchers? Rubber bands. I still can't decide which hurt most – the submarine that was water-soluble, or the parents who tsked and lectured "Maybe you've learned your lesson this time..."

Making Use Of Aerodynamics 10 Most Influential Cars Carlota de Andrés
www.collectorscarworld.de www.vintagestyle.eu As some will know, aerodynamic research dates all the way back to 1871, when Francis Herbert Wenham of the Aeronautical Society of Great Britain designed and operated the world’s first enclosed wind tunnel. During this time, researchers and engineers were working hard to develop the first flying machines that the world had ever seen, and the wind tunnel helped them gather fundamental data that would literally shape how the early airplanes of the coming years would look. Just under a century later, the focus of aerodynamic research would descend from the skies and return to the ground, when automobile manufacturers, led by the pioneering work of aerodynamicist Wunibald Kamm, started to see how streamlining the shape of a car’s body could have an improve fuel efficiency through the reduction of aerodynamic drag at high speeds. With the passing of each year, the field of study would continue to progress to eventually analyze factors like noise emissions and instability reached at high speeds, which would play a crucial role in developing some of the most impressive and exciting cars of all time.
coefficients that shames most modern production cars. There were smaller, more mainstream Tatras in development around this time, too, the V570 and T97. Both smaller models and the T77 are definitely the cars that inspired Adolf Hitler to prod his engineer Ferdinand Porsche into using Tatra’s approach as inspiration for what became the people’s car—the Volkswagen Beetle.
Aerodynamics were of the utmost importance when working on the now legendary 300 SL, and with a drag coefficient of 0.389, you could say the work of the German engineers certainly paid off. Up front, this was made possible in part by canting the engine onto its side at more than a 45 degree angle.
1963-1967 Chevrolet Corvette
Thanks to its wind-cheating body, BMW fared quite well during the Italian open-road endurance race when they crossed the finish line in Brescia as winners in their class. We recently drove one, and consider it a streamlined supercar for its time.
This was the first automobile designed with aerodynamics in mind, according to the principles of airship designer and engineer Paul Jaray. Renowned for its speed and comfort at speed, on its debut in 1934 it impressed the motoring press with how effortlessly it was able to reach the milestone of 90 mph (145 km/h). The car evolved into the T87, and more than eight decades later, these early Tatras still wear drag

Despite General Motors’ best efforts, the C2 Corvette didn’t put enough function over form, causing the nose of the body to noticeably lift up at higher speeds. Funnily enough, Corvette’s chief engineer at the time, Zora ArkusDuntov, would later say in an interview that the C2, “had the aerodynamics of a bad airplane”. Looks fantastic in the wind tunnel, though.
1949-1956 SAAB 92 The 3-speed 92 was the very first production vehicle from Saab, and given its free-flowing, continuous lines, it was able cut through the wind with ease and grace. Its drag coefficient of just 0.30 certainly helped the Swedish car manufacturer’s head engineer Rolf Mellde in coming second in his class at the Swedish Rally, just two weeks after the release of the car.

1974-1991 Citroën CX Thought of by many as the last true Citroën, the CX featured a Kamm tail, partially covered rear wheels, and series of ducts underneath the car to help distribute cool air to the brake discs. All of this helped this groundbreaking, French four-door achieve a commendable CD of 0.29.
1914 A.L.F.A. 40/60 HP Aerodinamica Prototype Designed by Marco Ricotti of Italian coachbuilder Carrozzeria Castagna in , this prototype made use of a streamlined teardrop-shaped body to reach a top speed of 86 mph (!) from its 70 horsepower engine.

1964-1965 Shelby Daytona Coupé
The introduction of the C111 at the 1969 Frankfurt Auto Show marked the beginning of a new age of cutting edge automobiles from Mercedes Benz, as the sports car was constructed for research purposes. With its streamlined aesthetics, and a three-cylinder Wankel, the Bruno Saccodesigned concept car was initially capable of reaching a top speed of 160 mph, with later C111 derivatives hitting 250 mph. Interestingly, the project nearly resulted in the surely what would have been the world’s first “modern” supercar, the 1991 C112: aerodynamic lessons learned equipped the car with active aero, active suspension, and a 400-plus horsepower V12 engine.
When the open top Cobras just weren’t cutting it anymore, Shelby’s engineer Peter Brock incorporated a drag-reducing kamm tail and downforce-inducing ducktail spoiler into the Daytona Coupé. Despite the Shelby crew approaching the car with skepticism, it soon proved fast enough to outrun Ferrari’s venerable GTO at Le Mans.

Ruttman Stages Impressive Indianapolis Comeback By Bob Gates Three months after Troy Ruttman took the 1952 Indianapolis 500 as the youngest winner in the iconic track’s history, he severely injured his right arm in a freak sprint-car accident at Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The arm failed to heal properly, and Ruttman missed 18 months of racing — a lifetime in racing terms, especially for a brash, 22 year old just coming into his racing prime. By May 1954, Ruttman was ready to mount a comeback at Indianapolis. But concerned car owners had heard rumors about his long layoff. Ruttman once admitted that he had spent his recuperation mostly drinking, gambling and gaining weight. The top rides went to other drivers. However, sportsman car owner Gene Casaroll gave Ruttman a chance in his bright orange Auto Shippers Special. A good car but not a great one, the Auto Shippers was a Kurtis 500A, built in 1952. Unlike the 500A roadsters of that same lineage, however, it was of upright design. When Indy practice began, Ruttman experienced an odd beginning to his racing return. He was flagged in after his first lap because he didn’t have a medical release. Medical clearance secured, he was soon turning laps equal to those of the hottest car-and-driver combos. He qualified a respectable 11th. Then, at the green flag on race day, he stunned those gathered with his spectacular early race performance. Fueled by an intense desire to prove himself, he called on his incredible natural talent, honed on race tracks from the age of 15, and passed six cars on the first lap.

CLASSY WHEELMAN: Troy Ruttman, with team owner J.C. Agajanian in 1952, enjoyed another dazzling Indy run in 1954. (Indianapolis Motor Speedway Photo) The 180,000 fans, aware of his past travails, were on their feet screaming in appreciation. In a lap Ruttman had became their favorite. Unknown to most, however, was yet another motivation (should he have needed one) for his breathtaking charge to the front. His car owner offered him $1,000 for every lap led, equivalent to $6,500 in today’s dollars. Within three laps he’d moved into third behind Jack McGrath and Jimmy Bryan, who were running faster than he’d qualified. The battle was so spirited Ruttman wore out his right rear tire in 20 laps and was forced to pit. He charged back, and was again hard on the heels of the leaders when a quick spin put him back in the pits. Ruttman failed to collect any of Casaroll’s thousand dollar bills, but despite the blown tire and the spin, he still finished fourth. Without his problems he might very well have won his second 500. Regardless, Ruttman reestablished himself that May afternoon and went on to race another 10 years. Picking and choosing his races, he remained competitive in Indy cars, won in stock cars and became the first Indianapolis winner to race in Formula One, driving a Maserati in the 1958 French Grand Prix. Ruttman’s place in auto racing history is well established, and his masterful drive at Indianapolis in 1954 is no small part of the reason.

Stefanie Lea Growing up in a small town, it wasn't out of the normal on a hot summer day to see a gathering of old hot rods at the local Dairy Queen. Often I’d walk by a group of good fellas sitting around their vehicles talking about the latest parts they had to hunt down from a few towns away. While they were sipping on a Pabst Blue Ribbon as the heat from the sun beamed down on them all. I listened to those stories while enjoying my ice cream cone. These are memories that I'm fond of still to this day. As a adult, I get excited knowing I get the chance to relive some of those memories every weekend. Now I find myself rushing home on most Fridays from work, packing a cooler, and my bagged chair into our hot vintage hot rod. Now we’re ready to head to the local car show of the week. Today there are more Diary Queen gatherings. They have out grown those local Dairy Queens and hamburger stands. Seems like every county north of Birmingham has something to offer everyone. City leaders are keeping it simple yet full of entertainment for the whole family to enjoy. I head North on Hwy 59 to what's known as First Friday in Gadsden. I’ll join hundreds of other car, truck and music lovers. For a evening of live music on every other city block. Like the sounds of Tex with Rev Tex Deville's and the Hot Rod Reveal. While we check out all the old hot rods and classic cars that line the streets that have taken over downtown Gadsden, we may stroll in and out of local shops or have dinner and drinks at one of the many restaurants in town. One thing still stand true even to this day, you’ll still hear stories being told. Like the new Hot Rod on the block that's fresh out of the garage with the nice white walls. As I sit at my desk the following Monday. I catch myself dreaming of the upcoming weekend ahead. Like the 2nd Sunday of the month, and the hot afternoon ride to the Courtyard Oyster Bar, in Trussville, Alabama. I always look forward to those old honky tonk sounds that Ryan Flynt, of The Motel Ice Machine, brings to the patio. I'm sure to hear other great stores of how all the beautiful cars and trucks ended up in the parking lot and how they came to life. Stories of being pulled out of the deepest kudzu patches or what was once someone's grandfather's old farm truck bought back to life. Each vehicle has a story with history to go along with many miles the odometers. Then as I cruise up I-65 North towards 24

Nashville to the 3rd Fridays in Decatur. Meeting friends on a hot Friday evening has become a highlight of my week. Gathering around a table at the local pizza joint, reminds of the good ol' days at the Dairy Queen. Listening to story's and enjoying the laughter among friends. Sounds of live music fill the air provided by ‘the band of the month’ as they jam on the curb in front of the historic Princess Theater. The streets are filled with vehicles. Car clubs gathering and vendors set up with items for sale. The energy for the evening is electrifying. This is the one weekend I look forward to the most. Yet if that's not enough for one weekend. I wake up on the 3rd Sunday on the month heading out to Roadhouse 67. North of Birmingham just off the Princeville exit. Where we will enjoy grilled burgers, cold beverages and of course some car history trivia. With great prizes for the winners. This is sure to a be a good time with all the car history junkies and greasers alike. My local hometown show has grown over the years. Held on the 4th Saturday of the month in Fultondale, just 5 minutes north of downtown Birmingham. With over 200 Trucks, bikes, Hot Rods, Rat Rods and mixed in with a ton classic cars it out grew the local hot dog stand years ago. Located in a shopping center parking lot, it's one show that's never let the locals down. The show has a lot to offer the locals as well as the people from out of town. Great restaurant's and burger joints, our show is growing into what many of us look forward to. And just like when I was a child, a ice cream truck on hand, dishing out ice cream cones and snow cones for all ages to enjoy on those hot summer evenings. So, while I daydream about upcoming weekends at work, I look forward to climbing into a vintage hot rod and hitting the highway, in search of those story's just like I did when I was as a child at the local Dairy Queen, making new friends along the way. www.GulfCoastMotorSports.com
