Cruizin’ in the passin’ lane By: Jimbo If I remember right, I was talking about rain last month and it’s still raining, what's up with that!! Well April showers are over… May flowers and all that.. May is a great month. During May some of the most memorable moments in my life took place. May is, or at least should be, a memorable moment for all of us. The freedoms we have here in this country are defended by our service members. Think of all the history our country has lived thru, and we still have our freedom. Remember them on Memorial Day. I put the history of Memorial Day on page 14 and there's more to this day than “it’s the start of the summer car season.” This month the magazine is filled with things to choose from. Cruisein’s, car shows & benefits….and they all want you to show up. If your car/ bike/truck is not running (or your in between vehicles) go as a spectator. Most of the clubs that put these events on are giving away the proceeds to someone in need. By attending you get hours of entertainment and the feeling of “helping out” a worthy cause and it’s is great way to spend some free time... You may have noticed the last few months I’ve posted a flyer for “Happy-Daze” June 26-28 at the Dragstrip. Truth is it’s a party, 3 days of camping, cook-outs, 60’s, 70’s & 80’s music., live local bands, vintage campers, trucks, vans & art cars. It’s not a car show but lot’s of folks will be showing their stuff. And some if it will be for sale. We have a chance to make an annual weekend event. All you have to do is show up and have a good time. Bring stuff and set up a tent, let’s have a party. Jimbo, An Ole boy over here in South Georgia drove one of those field cars about a ‘55 and worked at the pickle factory for about 15 years or so. Anyway, one day he came home and told his wife he had been fired. She said “what in the world happened?” He told her every since he worked there he wanted to put his Johnson in the pickle cutter. So he got up enough nerve and just did it. She jumped up ran over, pulled his pants down and said, “But your ok! What happened to the pickle cutter?” He replied, “they fired her too!” …

Cover & Centerfold by AdPix.Biz IRONS...News The morning started wet to say the least, however the Boulevard Cruisers persevered and in spite of the wet start put on a good show. The Misfits showed up and were well represented, they won the club participation award. Cars slowly began showing up as the weather cleared. There was also some good Bar-B-Q as the show was a side activity to the Bar-B-Q competition. Lets see Cars Trucks and Bikes and some good Bar BQ, it just don't get any better. Awards were given promptly at 3 pm the Boulevard Cruisers thanked all who came out in support of the event and participants were off to cruise nights or home. Oh and this is a little fellow named Bryce, I decided he needed to win this plaque. Great job Bryce. This is how you make an impact give a small one an award. The future of our hobby is all around us, try to make a positive statement. Later Gizmo This has to be the Inspirational photo of the month… and I think your hat says it all….thanks, Gizmo. Jimbo

The Cole Report….. Great day in picayune at the barbecue cook off and car show for the Boulevard Cruisers. Started out wet on the 6am ride up but cleared up by 9am and got sunny. Good turnout Misfits won the club participation award 18 member cars. Good food, music and fun. Left at 3:30pm headed to Froogels for our monthly 2nd Saturday Cruisin. Great turnout and tonight we made our donations from out Gnat Nationals car show last month. We gave the Hancock county senior citizens a check for $1000 and the C.A.S.A organization of Hancock county a check for $6000. This should help the 430+ children in the counties custody due to family problems. ….. Al
I decided to do something different for this month's Hot Coffee. I was eating a dressed and pressed po-boy at Fayard's in West Biloxi the other day and wondered how many places served good poboys. Now I like the dressed and pressed ham and cheese at Fayard's. Then there is the Shrimp po-boy at Ben's Deli in Gulfport. You could make another po-boy from the shrimp that falls off, it has so much. The thing that makes a good po-boy is the French bread that used. There are several types of French bread, but the best is the New Orleans type of French bread. Kind of crunchy on the outside and kind of soft on the inside. So if you have a favorite po-boy café or restaurant send me an e-mail and I will put the name in next month's magazine. If you live away from the Mississippi Coast send it anyway. We may be going through your town and need a place to eat. My e-mail address is: james.f.roberts@att.net Till I hear from everybody and we eat again. J. R.

The Day started off for me early and mighty cold as my drive to the Gnat Nationals proved to be a chilly experience. 40 degrees no top and a 30 plus mile drive at 6:00 a.m. is frigid. Thawed out and helped a little with the setup and parking of the over 150 cars trucks and motorcycles. The day warmed slowly but nicely. Lots of great food, one can never go hungry at this one. Lots of money raised for some of the clubs chosen charities. Many new friends were met in this one as well. Seems like the 17th edition was well represented by several states even one as far away as Michigan. The awards were presented promptly and by 3:30 we were saying thanks for attending and hope to see you down the road soon. Great cars Great folks and Good food. Oh and the music was just right too. Fun was had by all. Here’s just a sampling of those in attendance.. Till next time Later Gizmo

I was born in 1948. Cadillac was the first to put fins on a car in 1948. So let me see, there were at least two significant events that occurred in 1948. The true postwar design history at Cadillac begins with the development of the 1948 model. As WWII drew to a close, there was a climate at Cadillac which had never existed before. Forces of unrest were afoot and a couple of key people, who might otherwise be relied upon to make important decisions, weren’t even there. The 1948-1949 Cadillac was a dream-come-true. It was the dream of a young boy way back in 1920. Years before that, the boy’s Detroit socialite mother, Clara, had purchased the third Cadillac ever built in 1903. Since that time there had been a long succession of new Cadillacs in the woman’s life. The boy had literally grown up with Cadillac. There was something in the boy that was awakened and he had a deep appreciation for a welldesigned machine. Promising himself that one day he would design a Cadillac, that boy grew up to be one of the most influential automobile designers of all time: Franklin Q. Hershey. He settled into a position with General Motors in Detroit and he quickly gained recognition and support of Harley Earl, GM’s design czar. One day in the late 30’s, Earl received government permission to take some of his best designers to Michigan’s Selfridge Field to see a secret military aircraft. Designers Bill Mitchell and Frank Hershey were among the group. Though no one knew it then, this field trip was destined to become legendary in the history of automotive design. There on the runway sat the thirteenth Lockheed P-38 Lightning, the twin-boomed aeronautical marvel that was going to set combat records in the coming war. This radical design opened Mitchell’s and Hershey’s eyes to previously un-thought-of possibilities. They were transfixed by the elegance of the plane’s design. When the story of the 1948 Cadillac is told, the influence of the plane’s tail fins is usually the predominant theme, however, the effect of the plane’s design was much more than that. Mitchell said: “You have to understand the value of what we saw in that plane’s design. We saw that you could take one line and continue it from the cowl all the way back to the tip of the tail—that you could have one unbroken, flowing line.” True tail fins are a sweep of the fender itself. “The first tail fins, and the ones that followed for several years, were a response to America’s post-war fascination with the jet age,” said Jeff Leestma, president of the Automotive Hall of Fame. “At that point, air travel had evolved from using propellers to jet engines, and everyone was fascinated with this new jet age. And the stylists at the car companies, particularly at General Motors and Chrysler, really embraced that sensibility in terms of their designs.” After WWII General Motors recognized two elements that helped sell cars. These were the vehicle design itself and the automatic transmission. Engineering is important, but GM felt that people
would not buy what they could not see. You can see the chrome and enjoy the automatic transmission, but the engineering is under the hood and essentially out of sight. The tail fins made a visual statement. The ’48 Cadillac was an instant success with buyers. When dealers first saw it, however, they were apprehensive and some were downright scared the public wouldn’t like it. Any negative opinions the dealers harbored were overshadowed by the public’s instant and massive demand for the car. In 1948, Cadillac was the luxury car to own. Production didn’t start until February, 1948, but even with a short run, demand was higher than supply and 52,706 cars were built. The tail fin was clearly fueled by competition as General Motors and Chrysler were embattled in a race of sorts to see who could bring the biggest, most radical, dashing, and attention-getting fins to the marketplace. Harley Earl and Bill Mitchell of GM and Virgil Exner at Chrysler were in a duel to out-do one another with the biggest and sharpest tail fin. Generally, big tail fins were not part of Ford’s strategy, although the T-birds had some fins. The Packard Hawk had some pretty big tail fins on it when you consider the size of the car. The ultimate fin for size and flamboyance was considered to be the 1959 Cadillac. That is as large as the fins ever got. They used a lot of chrome and tail lamp pieces that visually reflected the jet age. This car appeared to be getting ready to fly away. After 1959, designers felt they had taken the tail fin trend as far as it was going to go. The public had enough of the ever expanding tail fin. The designers then went with a cleaner look. By 1965 there wasn’t a tail fin to be found.

Three years after the Civil War ended, on May 5, 1868, the head of an organization of Union veterans — the Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) — established Decoration Day as a time for the nation to decorate the graves of the war dead with flowers. Maj. Gen. John A. Logan declared that Decoration Day should be observed on May 30. It is believed that date was chosen because flowers would be in bloom all over the country. The first large observance was held that year at Arlington National Cemetery, across the Potomac River from Washington, D.C. The ceremonies centered around the mourning-draped veranda of the Arlington mansion, once the home of Gen. Robert E. Lee. Various Washington officials, including Gen. and Mrs. Ulysses S. Grant, presided over the ceremonies. After speeches, children from the Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Orphan Home and members of the GAR made their way through the cemetery, strewing flowers on both Union and Confederate graves, reciting prayers and singing hymns. Local Observances Claim To Be First Local springtime tributes to the Civil War dead already had been held in various places. One of the first occurred in Columbus, Miss., April 25, 1866, when a group of women visited a cemetery to decorate the graves of Confederate soldiers who had fallen in battle at Shiloh. Nearby were the graves of Union soldiers, neglected because they were the enemy. Disturbed at the sight of the bare graves, the women placed some of their flowers on those graves, as well. Today, cities in the North and the South claim to be the birthplace of Memorial Day in 1866. Both Macon and Columbus, Ga., claim the title, as well as Richmond, Va. The village of Boalsburg, Pa., claims it began there two years earlier. A stone in a Carbondale, Ill., cemetery carries the statement that the first Decoration Day ceremony took place there on April 29, 1866. Carbondale was the wartime home of Gen. Logan. Approximately 25 places have been named in connection with the origin of Memorial Day, many of them in the South where most of the war dead were buried. Official Birthplace Declared In 1966, Congress and President Lyndon Johnson declared Waterloo, N.Y., the “birthplace” of Memorial Day. There, a ceremony on May 5, 1866, honored local veterans who had fought in the Civil War. Businesses closed and residents flew flags at halfstaff. Supporters of Waterloo’s claim say earlier observances in other places were either informal, not community-wide or one-time events. By the end of the 19th century, Memorial Day ceremonies were being held on May 30 throughout the nation. State legislatures passed proclamations designating the day, and the Army and Navy adopted regulations for proper observance at their facilities.
14
MAY 2015
It was not until after World War I, however, that the day was expanded to honor those who have died in all American wars. In 1971, Memorial Day was declared a national holiday by an act of Congress, though it is still often called Decoration Day. It was then also placed on the last Monday in May, as were some other federal holidays. Some States Have Confederate Observances Many Southern states also have their own days for honoring the Confederate dead. Mississippi celebrates Confederate Memorial Day on the last Monday of April, Alabama on the fourth Monday of April, and Georgia on April 26. North and South Carolina observe it on May 10, Louisiana on June 3 and Tennessee calls that date Confederate Decoration Day. Texas celebrates Confederate Heroes Day January 19 and Virginia calls the last Monday in May Confederate Memorial Day. Gen. Logan’s order for his posts to decorate graves in 1868 “with the choicest flowers of springtime” urged: “We should guard their graves with sacred vigilance. ... Let pleasant paths invite the coming and going of reverent visitors and fond mourners. Let no neglect, no ravages of time, testify to the present or to the coming generations that we have forgotten as a people the cost of a free and undivided republic.” The crowd attending the first Memorial Day ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery was approximately the same size as those that attend today’s observance, about 5,000 people. Then, as now, small American flags were placed on each grave — a tradition followed at many national cemeteries today. In recent years, the custom has grown in many families to decorate the graves of all departed loved ones. The origins of special services to honor those who die in war can be found in antiquity. The Athenian leader Pericles offered a tribute to the fallen heroes of the Peloponnesian War over 24 centuries ago that could be applied today to the 1.1 million Americans who have died in the nation’s wars: “Not only are they commemorated by columns and inscriptions, but there dwells also an unwritten memorial of them, graven not on stone but in the hearts of men.” To ensure the sacrifices of America ’s fallen heroes are never forgotten, in December 2000, the U.S. Congress passed and the president signed into law “The National Moment of Remembrance Act,” P.L. 106-579, creating the White House Commission on the National Moment of Remembrance. The commission’s charter is to “encourage the people of the United States to give something back to their country, which provides them so much freedom and opportunity” by encouraging and coordinating commemorations in the United States of Memorial Day and the National Moment of Remembrance. The National Moment of Remembrance encourages all Americans to pause wherever they are at 3 p.m. local time on Memorial Day for a minute of silence to remember and honor those who have died in service to the nation. As Moment of Remembrance founder Carmella LaSpada states: “It’s a way we can all help put the memorial back in Memorial Day.” Source …. http://www.va.gov/opa/speceven/memday/history.asp

ACCORDING TO WHOM? by: Nancy Morgan
Political correctness is loosely defined as "avoidance of expressions or actions that can be perceived to exclude or marginalize or insult people who are socially disadvantaged or discriminated against." In other words, millions of Americans have willingly allowed themselves to be placed in the losing position of continually being forced to prove a negative. "I'm not a racist," "I'm not homophobic," "I'm not a greedy capitalist"...ad nauseum. Political correctness is a hugely successful campaign that has effectively altered traditional standards of behavior in order to advance the political agenda of mostly left-leaning groups. From gay rights, to feminism to open borders, PC rules dictate that you conform with the prevailing groupthink at the risk of social ostracism. I will not let others dictate manners to me. I was brought up to be respectful of others and to live by the Golden Rule. In other words, I have good manners. So why should I allow others to impose their "manners" on me? Especially when their "manners" only apply to favored groups. Here are a few basic facts. America is the greatest country the world has ever known. We have equality of opportunity, not outcome. Respect must be earned, not granted, and promoting self-esteem is just a subtle message that it's OK and even desirable to be selfish. Most politically correct "elites" who purport to speak for you have been educated way beyond their intelligence. Life isn't fair and everyone is not equal. If any of your "rights" are paid for by others, they not rights, they are entitlements. And redefining words to make them politically correct does not change the underlying reality. A rose is a rose and a jerk is a jerk. With a black man in the White House, I have also decided that I will no longer lower my voice when discussing race. And since I graduated from high school long ago, I've decided that I will never refer to words by their first letter. Those that refer to "the n word" or "the p word" are people who have willingly allowed others to set the rules. They are sheep who have acquiesced to group-think in a vain attempt to appear "with-it." From now on, I will call a lie a lie, not a misstatement. Just because many people lie does not make it right. And I will not allow my opinions to be called judgments. I will not allow debate to be redefined as argument, and I most certainly will not have anyone tell me that my point of view is invalid unless they can prove it. I will ask myself these four questions that will determine the validity of any statement: At what cost? Compared to what? According to whom? What hard evidence do you have? If you're content to allow others to define you, by all means, keep playing by the politically correct rules. If you're OK with allowing others to manipulate your sentiments to achieve their own agendas, feel free. If, however, you value individual freedom and common sense over group-think, maybe it's time you joined me in starting to fight back against all this PC nonsense. It's easy. Just say no.

Car show season is here…but unfortunately so is the rain. I can’t remember a wetter spring time. We (The Coast Cruizers) kicked off our season with The Gulf Coast Auto Show, our Mega Cruize-in and Easter Sunrise Service. All were well attended. The Coast Cruizers each handled different parts of these events. Saturday April 4, The Gulf Coast Auto Show brought people to the coast and filled the Shular hotel properties parking lot on HWY 49 in Gulfport. It was the largest show in the three year history of the show. Folks came, spent the night, enjoyed activities on the Coast and spent their money. Saturday night they all met with local cruisers and enjoyed a good night of fellowship, looking at cool cars, talking cars and enjoying good music. Auto Zone stepped up to the plate once again and provided great door prizes. We began the night with awards from the 3rd Annual Gulf Coast Auto Show and finished it off with a generator we gave away from Gulf Coast MotorSports. Great door prizes were given away from Auto Zone during the night on 50/50 tickets and with car trivia. A lot of money was raised by the Coast Cruizers for our charity work including the handicapped van project that we do every year and give away to a family with a special needs child. Thanks to all the cruisers that came out and supported a great cause. Our Cruize-ins are very well attended, we estimated over 150 cruisers attended and many more spectators. Our next Cruize-in is Saturday night May 2 from 69pm at Edgewater Mall Biloxi. If you’re not going to Burning Up The Beaches Car Show in Ft. Walton Beach, FL that weekend, join our group at Edgewater Mall. We’re there the first Saturday night of the month, each month through September. October we move to the 2nd Saturday night and we’ll close out our Cruize-in season and close out Cruisin The Coast. That final Cruise-in for 2015 will be October 10th. Speaking of Burning Up The Beaches…just got off the phone with Donna at the show. They are expecting a huge show this year April 30-May2, based on the phone calls and the pre-entries. The pre-entries have already exceeded last year’s attendance. This is a very good car show. Many cruisers have told me it was their favorite of 2014. The show is awesome, the folks that put on the show are awesome and the cause they all work for is awesome. The show is put on by Horizons, Horizons does an incredible job with people with disabilities. Their mission statement says it all…“To create a path from disability to capability by providing exceptional services so people of all ages can work, play, learn, achieve personal goals and live meaningful lives.” The location for the car show is awesome also, located at The Boardwalk. The Boardwalk is located on beach in Ft Walton Beach and is a one stop destination for fun day and night, with dinning, nice shops, entertainment and the beautiful white sand beach, with emerald colored water and waves. The parking lot area out front will hold 500 show cars. Donna is already looking at future sites as the shows grows over 500 cars. The problem is…The Boardwalk is such a great site in every way, it’ll be hard to match. The Hot Rod Show will be there doing the music on Saturday, if you get a chance to go, be sure and drop by The Hot Rod Trailer and say hello. I have recovered from the play I did at Center Stage in Biloxi. The director asked me if I was ready to do another and I said maybe next year. After the exhaustion of doing the show wore off, being sick didn’t help any…I was left with the memory of how much fun

doing a play was and how greatly challenged I was doing it. (Scotty thinks I’m greatly challenged anyway) Well I really enjoyed the experience and learned so very much. The summer play is a musical “Fiddler On The Roof,” I did see a part of a heavy in the play that was also a non-singing part, so I told the director, Chuck White I was interested. Next thing you know he has me auditioning for a singing part at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College with the director of music there. About the only singing I have done is sing in church or the shower or singing alone in the car with the radio. The non-singing part was about 300 words, more than I ever had, plus it was the part of the villain in the play, but the director has talked me into being part of the ensemble, which involves me even more. A musical is going to be unchartered waters for me and I’m scared to death…but I do love a challenge and I keep finding ways to challenge myself even more. I maybe be way over my head on this one, but the experience I’m sure will be life altering, lol. I’m too old to try skydiving or mountain climbing so this type thing will have to do. Get that Hot Rod out and enjoy that 17 FOREVER Hot Rod state of mind and a little bit of culture won’t hurt you I promise…hope to see you in Ft Walton Beach, FL! It’s been 5 years of writing this article for MotorSports magazine. My youngest son (56 years of age) Brad, called and is putting together a history of the Dunham family for his 7 children. I’m sending him the ancestry data, but I’m going to tell you faithful readers that the following is his racing history (not results) with me, (his only car owner & sponsor). THIS IS CALIF. His mother divorced me when he was 6 years old, and then moved to Buffalo, MO. with the new husband. She sent him back to me when he was 14 (maybe 15). So: I had this `57 Pontiac Star Chief, 347 cu. in. and it would fly! As some of you know, I drove for Pontiac (Ray NIchels) in 1957 for USAC. See photo of this car, this is Brads first drag race, at a professional track. Irwindale, Calif. There was a ¼ dirt oval, and a ¼ mile drag race track. (later they paved the oval) In the photo you will see Brad winning his first event, that’s a 1960 Pontiac in the foreground and he is the 57 in the background crossing the finish line and winning.
It was time for him to return to MO. to go to school so I drove to Portland, Oregon and picked up a 1960 Chevrolet El Camino that had a Pontiac 390 cu. in. engine for him to drive back. (my oldest son was 3 yrs older than Brad) He flew out to drive with him back to MO. Next year he came out and I found the “Digger’ as he called it. That’s him with the 1970 (split front bumper Camaro) chopped top, 327 hi rise manifold, the top chopped 4 inches.
We turned the Santa Ana Drag strip in under eleven seconds! I was gearing it to turn 7800 to 8000. Didn’t have nitros oxide in those days, and didn’t dare use “Nitro” from Francisco Labs with a 16-17 year old! He called me one nite after going to a “strip” in Salom Spring, Ark. “Dad” he says” on the starting line it’s a “real wash board bumpy, and they leave me at the start”. Now the Camero had a 4 speed a speed “crash box” for a tranny. I told him start in 2nd gear instead of 1 at gear. It worked and he “blow their doors off” as we used to say 60 years ago.

Now as he goes back to school I told is sister Lynn, “get him graduated” or else! She did, and the high school grad came out to live in Calif. with us. This brings us to photo of Kurtis Kraft Midget #47 as shown in photo. The engine was a Chev. 2, 4 cylinder, with a V-8 head. The block was milled, a plate machined with V-8 head mounting holes and you can see the carbs in the photo, on the V8 head.
We were very unsuccessful with this engine, the 180` degree crank wouldn’t handle 7000 to 8000 RPM. (I never ran a racing engine under 7000 including my V-8-60. (but that’s another story) We now (Pineapple & I), buy a home in Lakeside, Calif., and still have our office in Santa Monica, CA. We also have our apt. in the “stone towers” where C.J. lives and our office at 1401 Ocean Blvd. in Santa Monica. (7th floor, overlooking the ocean) There was a dirt track ¼ mile, ½ on the outside at Chula Vista, CA. Also there was a ½ mile dirt at Corona, CA. In those days (1970”s) it was “run what you brung”. So, with the 327 that was in the “digger” I put together the #17 modified stock car in 1979. (see photo) I put together the aero dynamics with the help of Rod Schapel (of Bonnervile Salt Flats) and Doug Nash of same streamliner work.
We went to Corona, broke the stock car track record and took a second in the main. (that’s another story) We went to Chula Vista, broke the track record, won the main smiling. From then on the national racing publications ran the ads for these 2 tracks starting “No Billboards”. This was before “wings”. I hate wings, but a 327 against 454’s & 460’s ? After the modifies you will see in the “Ad” Brad Dunham for Stanford Electronics. This was my last “shot” at being “Dad” to the “National Champion”. It’s not important to you, but if you’re curious, in 1978 I decided to build a “killer” midget to make Brad National Champ. The chassis was $22,000 the engine was $8,000. For you engine lovers, this was a 4 cylinder (Sesco) which is a V-8 Chevy cut in half length-

Chocolate Is Salad !!! Wouldn't it be great if we could put ourselves in the dryer for ten minutes; come out wrinkle-free and three sizes smaller! Last year I joined a support group for procrastinators. We haven't met yet! I don't trip over things, I do random gravity checks! I don't need anger management. I need people to stop pissing me off! Old age is coming at a really bad time! When I was a child I thought Nap Time was a punishment ... now, as a grown up, it just feels like a small vacation! The biggest lie I tell myself is ... "I don't need to write that down, I'll remember it." Lord grant me the strength to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can & the friends to post my bail when I finally snap! I don't have gray hair. I have "wisdom highlights". I'm just very wise. My people skills are just fine. It's my tolerance to idiots that needs work. Teach your daughter how to shoot, because a restraining order is just a piece of paper. If God wanted me to touch my toes, he would've put them on my knees. The kids text me "plz" which is shorter than please. I text back "no" which is shorter than "yes". I'm going to retire and live off of my savings. Not sure what I'll do that second week. When did it change from "We the people" to "screw the people"? I've lost my mind and I'm pretty sure my wife took it! Even duct tape can't fix stupid ... but it can muffle the sound! Why do I have to press one for English when you're just gonna transfer me to someone I can't understand anyway? Of course I talk to myself, sometimes I need expert advice. Oops! Did I roll my eyes out loud? wise, with aluminum case on the bottom and a V-8, aluminum head on top. If you look closely, the drive line and gear box, and rear end, are outside the frame! This the #55 car. The engine was laid on its side. We were unsuccessful until I went to Dave Schneider of the “Schneider Camshaft” fame, and he gave me info that finally worked on the engine. It was the 1st lay-down midget engine. We went to “Turkey Nite” at Ascot. It had been raining all week. The mud was 6” deep in the track. 85 cars showed up. Brad went to the pit steward, drew # for qualifying, and drew #1. Out of 85 numbers! I didn’t worry about it, because when the track is deep mud you take 1 and come back in and take the next 1 after everyone has taken 1 or 2. So, it’s fine – Well they changed the rules (or the way everyone was used to) and you “took 2 and parked”. So, to make this short they had 4 races, “last chance” (15 slowest cars) Consolation 15 laps, Semi Main 20 cars, and Main event 25+2 from the Semi (1st & 2nd). Brad started in back row, won the last chance race, moved to the consolation race, (17 cars) won it moved to the Semi started last, ran 3rd (needed to be 2nd to be in the main) He came with tears in his eyes and said “Dad all I needed was one more lap!” My good buddy “Joe Finley” of St. Louis, MO. who’s son also my pal was killed in the midgets years ago. He was St. Louis Racing Assoc. (Missouri) Champion for 2 years (It could have been Brad).
At my age "Getting lucky" means walking into a room and remembering what I came in there for. Chocolate comes from cocoa which is a tree ... that makes it a plant which means ... chocolate is Salad !!!
Three Old Golfers Three golfers are walking down the fairway. "Sixty is the worst age to be," said the 60-year-old, "You always feel like you have to pee. And most of the time nothing happens." "Ah, that's nothing," said the 70-year-old. "When you're 70, you don't have a bowel movement anymore. You take laxatives, eat bran, you sit on the toilet all day and nothing happens." "Actually," said the 80-year-old, "Eighty is the worst age of all." "Do you have trouble peeing too?" asked the 60-year-old. "No, I pee every morning at 6.00 am. I pee like a racehorse; no problem at all." "Do you have trouble having a bowel movement?" asked the 70-year-0ld. "No, I have one every morning at 6.30 am." Puzzled with this the 60-year-old said, "Let's get this straight. You pee every morning at 6.00 am and poop every morning at 6.30 am. So What's so tough about being 80?" "I don't wake up and get out of the bed until after seven." Sent in by GptTeeByrd@

Saturn V Text & photos: AdPix.Biz Model: Erin By now you may have seen Brett Anderson's '32 Coupe, even if you were only looking for Erin the model. Calling this thing merely a '32 Coupe is about like calling the Saturn V a bottle rocket. Brett is a custom-building handcrafter artisan from the old school. He custom-builds kitchen cabinets and monster motors (at different times). In fact, he's custom-built a lot of cool things that show off his craftsmanship, but it's hot rods like this, and particular their motors, that really lights his rocket. To hear him talk, as much as he loves this car, it's really only a carrier for the motor. Sure, a darn fine carrier, or booster stage perhaps. But that motor is his masterpiece, his passion, and we know that the motor makes the car, so that's why this one turned out so well. Compare that to Zaporozhets, for example. Their only passion was to illustrate the superiority of a Central-Planning Government, such as the Soviet's at the time. This is why you'll never see a Zaporozhet featured in a car magazine or even lasting very far on the road. But building a car around a motor like this, yeah that works!! Freedom can be cool, as well as being the most effective. And when this 396-cubic-inch 600-hp baby cranks up, your inner organs are all cheering Freedom! Brett had to buy and build about 12 prior “pedestrian” cars before he got to this one, the God-Loving-Free-Enterprise Godzilla Monster of '32 Coupes, and the fulfillment of his life-long dream. He designed, fabricated and customized everything on this car, but the synergy green tri-coat paint. The car benefits from 12 practice builds. As a payback, he's now building one for his wife. When it's done, Jimbo himself agreed to model with it. (That shoot will only appear in “Zaporozhets Monthly”) Just in case you missed it, that's a 671 BDS blower and it's doing 16 lbs of boost. When asked “how much horsepower does it do?” Brett responds in typical pro-motor-builder-fashion: about 600 hp. That means the real number is much higher. You or me, as non-professional-builders, would say 600 hp if it only put out 500 hp, because we don't want to admit that we were suckered by the salesman. But Brett knows that at only 2,000 pounds, most of which is in the tires, he can beat pretty much anything but a formula dragster, and he knows everyone else knows it too, so there's no need to puff up the chest prematurely. Somehow he gets all of that power, however much it actually is, through a Turbo 350 transmission to the Ford 9” using a Kilduff Lightning Rod shifter. And that shifter is really as cool a feature as the motor itself. There's only a few of these shifters in the known universe, according to NASA. It's unique because, not only does it make gorgeous models like Erin ask all sorts of cool questions about it, it's designed so that the driver has no doubt which gear he's in. (Yes, that's right HE). There's no shifting from 2nd gear to 4th in the red mist of the moment, like with H-pattern shifters. Further, upon lift-off, when you're getting slammed back in to the depths of that slightly-padded custom bucket seat, you're not really able to push anything forward. With this shifter, every shift is a quick snatch backward, in the direction of your competition. Brett and wife Hilary completely built the car in their garage in only a few months, despite doing it all themselves. And Brett added heat and air-conditioning and drives it to cruise-ins, pretty much anywhere that's not going to be too rainy, much more useful than your average Saturn V.

Math teacher arrested at JFK airport is suspected of belonging to secret terror society There is this dude I know who wasn’t feelin very good for quite some time, so he went to see this doctor dude. The doctor checked him out with all kinds of test, Cat Scans, MRI, EKG, different blood tests, and the ole five finger rubber glove exam. When he was thru with all of that, he invited the dude back into his office for a consultation. The doctor told him he unfortunately had some bad news to tell him. “Although there is no easy way to break it to you, I will just come right out and tell you. It looks like you only have about 6 months at best to live”. The other dude said, “Doctor are you sure? What am I going to do?” The doctor dude thought about it for a moment and said, “why don’t you give it some thought to moving to the Delta, marry a woman with a lot of junk in her trunk, with about 5 wild out of control kids, and raise a bunch of hogs”. The dude said, “doctor, will that really help me live longer”? The doctor said, “well no, but that 6 months will seem like a lifetime to ya”!! You know, ya talk about a doctor in practice. Sounds like he’s been practicing a long time and he still ain’t got it right. Lately, I don’t know if I’m getting older or maybe it’s the company I’ve been keepin. As I was talkin to this dude one day, out of the clear blue sky he said, “ well it looks like it is gonna be about a 50% chance of rain today”. I said, “a 50% chance of rain huh, how can you be so sure of that?” He said, “ because only one of my knees is hurting me today”. Now this is the same dude that believes an ‘ice bucket challenge’ is a 12 pack of beer on ice. At a funeral home, an ole lady was checkin out all the different coffins on display for her deceased husband. One of the salesmen thought she was behaving a little quirky, as she would raise a coffin lid and drop it, then she would kick at it with her foot as if to see how sturdy it was. So the one salesman said to the other salesman, “what is the deal with that”? The other salesman said, “oh she’s alright, she just wants to make sure she is getting the right one. Her husband use to be a used car salesman.
A public school teacher was arrested today at John F. Kennedy International airport as he attempted to board a flight while in possession of a ruler, a protractor, a compass, an ancient wooden device called a “slide-rule” and a calculator. At a morning press conference, Attorney General Eric Holder said he believes the man is a member of the notorious Al-Gebra movement. He did not identify the man, who has been charged by the FBI with carrying weapons of math instruction. “Al-Gebra is a problem for us,” the Attorney General said. “Al-Gebra has terrorized many young people for years. They derive solutions by means and extremes, and sometimes go off on tangents in search of absolute values. They use secret code names like 'X' and 'Y' and refer to themselves as 'unknowns,' but we have determined that they belong to a common denominator of the axis of medieval with coordinates in every country.” As the Greek philosopher Isosceles used to say, “There are 3 sides to every triangle.'” When asked to comment on the arrest, President Obama said, “If God had wanted us to have better weapons of math instruction, he would have given us more fingers and toes.” White House aides told reporters they could not recall a more intelligent or profound statement by the President. It is believed that another Nobel Prize will follow.
Bought vs Homemade Six year old Annie returns home from school and says that today she had her first family planning lesson at school. Her mother, very interested, asks: "Oh. How did it go?" "I nearly died of shame!" she answers. "Sam from down the street says the stork brings babies. Sally next door said you can buy babies at the orphanage. Pete in my class says you can buy babies at the hospital." Her mother answers laughingly, "But that's no reason to be ashamed." "No, but I can't tell them that we were so poor that you and daddy had to make me yourselves
