The situation on getting ammo is getting really tight, but this morning I lucked out and was able to buy two boxes of ammo. I placed the boxes on the front seat and headed back home, but stopped at a gas station where a drop-dead gorgeous blonde in a short skirt was filling up her car at the next pump. She glanced at the two boxes of ammo, bent over and leaned in my passenger window, and said in a sexy voice, "I'm a big believer in barter, old fella. Would you be interested in trading sex for ammo?" I thought for a few seconds and asked, "What kind of ammo 'ya got?" Well I guess that got her nervous and she jumped into her car and sped off down the highway. She must of lost control and she went through the guardrail, rolled down a cliff, bounced off a tree and finally shuddered to a stop. A few of us, who had witnessed the entire accident, ran to her car and helped the miraculously unharmed driver out of the wreck. "Good lord, miss," I gasped, "are you drunk?" "Of course," said the girl, brushing the dirt from her dress. "What the hell do you think I am -- a f#@*ing stunt driver?" ... Did you know that some people aren’t really sure that the Coast Cruizers is a part of Gulf Coast MotorSports magazine? It’s true. To them the Coast Cruizers appears to be a separate organization. When Gulf Coast MotorSports magazine started, we called our readers Coast Cruizers. The magazine started as a way to keep motorcycle and local hot-rodders informed about events taking place on the MS Gulf Coast. Is Gulf Coast MotorSports a business? Yep! Taxes and all that goes with it; time, effort and money! That’s what you put into publication like this. What started out as a little newsletter for a bunch of motorcycle riders is now sending copies each month to readers from states as far away as CA, Michigan, N.J. ( over seven hundred subscriptions are sent to readers in twenty-three different states. ) Some Coast Cruizers want to have a more active part, helping to plan activities, benefits, contribute articles, jokes and all the other things you see on these pages. Some are just happy to subscribe to the magazine. Now some of you are reading a copy you picked up somewhere, and we send out a lot of them, but if you can’t find one, remember you can go the web site. www.GulfCoastMotorSports.com One of the things we strive to do is encourage all our Coast Cruizer readers to do is, support local clubs as they put on events in their area. Large or small, each club is trying to plan an event to entertain and show the public that they are part of the community. Sure there are some shows that are about huge crowds and a big gate, (I like them too) but we need to remember, it’s not always about how much you make from the show, but why you are putting it on. This April the Coast Cruizers will host the 2nd Annual Gulf Coast Auto Show. I like to think of it as a Coast Cruizer’s reunion. The Auto Show is held the 1st weekend in April (April 4-6, 2014) and now is the time to make your reservations at one of the host hotels. (all 3 of them are next to each other) One thing that sets this show apart from others is WE ENCOURAGE our local Gulf Coast clubs and organizations to hold an event of their choosing on this weekend too! We will publish all your information about your show, swap meet, benefit, etc., in the Gulf Coast Auto Show program.. If you need information give me a call. Now for the fun stuff………

Jimbo, as you know I am still waiting on the title and vin number for my car so I have to still trailer it for now. As I do so for the cruise in at Sam's Club Friday night I am ready to hang out with everyone. Only to get there and unload my car and get everything put away and jump in and hit the key then nothing. The starter went out just like that. I call and catch my wife just leaving to head that way and have her grab another starter off the (Continued on page 6)

shelf. I walk up to and start looking at the cars that are already there when a guy who I cant remember his name but he has the 32 Coupe ask where my car is. I have to tell him the ugly truth that it is broke down in the back parking lot of Sam's. He gets a couple guys and they push me up and get parked and even hands me some tools so I can pull the starter off while I wait on my wife to get there. Moments like this is why I love car people. You people are making a mockery of marriage!!" Jimbo, There once was a little boy who had a bad temper. His father gave him a bag of nails and told him that every time he lost his temper, he must hammer a nail into the fence. The first day the boy had driven 37 nails into the fence. Over the next few weeks as he learned to control his anger, the number of nails hammered daily, gradually dwindled down. He discovered it was easier to hold his temper than to drive those nails into the fence. Finally the day came when the boy didn’t lose his temper at all. He told his father about it and the father suggested that the boy now pull out one

nail for each day that he was able to hold his temper. The days passed and the young boy was finally able to tell his father that all the nails were gone. The father took his son by the hand and led him to the fence. He said “you have done well, my son, but look at the holes in the fence. The fence will never be the same. When you say things in anger, they leave a scar just like this one.” You can put a knife in a man and draw it out. It won’t matter how many times you say I’m sorry, the wound is still there. It was an if’e kinda’ Saturday, you know the kind if it don’t rain we get to go to the cruise-in. So we took off early and headed out for a late lunch, or early dinner, and I guess my last month comments about Dempsey’s helped the Coast Cruizers choose where to go. We had a great time and I can’t say enough about Diane & her staff. They make everyone feel like “welcome home”. Today it takes going the extra steps to make a business work and hats off to Dempsey’s for doing just that. Good food, great service, and when you go be sure to check out Da Swamp Shack next door.

Well another family reunion has came and gone. We went out to Lake Texoma at Kingston, Ok in June and had a great time, just to short. We went to a café we found about 2 years ago called SunnySide and found it closed. So it was time to find another place to eat. There are not to many places to eat in this small town. The Oklahoma side of the lake is mostly farm and ranch land. But a new place came to town and opened up in a closed restaurant. The name is Trio and they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. Small place but good food. It is owned by 3 people ( the name) and they came south to get away from the cold up north. For somebody from up north they sure learned how to cook southern food real good. The portions were above average, if you work on a ranch or farm you need enough to last most of the day. For myself it was more than I could eat. The pancakes were the size of a dinner plate (2 of them) it came with 2 eggs, 2 sausage patties, and hash brown or grits for $6.95 The sausage was great had a real good flavor and the grits! I haven't found anybody down here that has grits as good as those. So I had to ask what kind they were, of course they came from a commercial supply company in a fifty pound bag. That kind of killed the idea of maybe getting a box. The food was so good we went back the next morning and had breakfast again. I went and ask some of my relatives that live in Kingston about the place and found out the café was doing a great business and they had ate dinner there several time. Just hope it is still there next year when we go back. If you get out there stop by and have a good meal. The café is located on hwy 70 between Durant and Kingston on the south side of the road. ~ APPLE PIE BAKED IN APPLE ~ 5-6 Granny Smith apples (make sure they can stand on their own) 1 tbsp. cinnamon 1/4 cup sugar 1 tbsp. brown sugar pie crust (homemade or pre-made)

Boudreaux moved from Lafourche Parish to a New Jersey suburb, a fellow passenger on a train asked how he liked it in the Jersey countryside. 1) Preheat oven to 375F. 2) Cut off the top of 4 apples off and discard. Remove the inside of each apple with a spoon or melon baller very carefully, as to not puncture the peel. If you’re a skilled interior apple excavator, salvage as much as you can so you can use it for Step 2. I, on the other hand, am not skilled so I just had to throw my interior apples away and chop up additional apples for filling. 3) Remove skin from remaining apple(s) and slice very thinly. These apple pieces will give you the additional filling needed to fill the four apples you are baking. Mix sliced apples with sugars and cinnamon in a bowl. If you prefer more or less cinnamon make adjustments as desired. Same goes for the sugar. Scoop sliced apples into hollow apples. 4) Roll out pie crust and slice into 1/4 inch strips. You can also add a strip of pastry inside the top of the apple almost like a liner to add a little more texture/sweetness to the pie. Cover the top of the apple in a lattice pattern with pie crust strips. 5) Place apples in an 8×8 pan. Add just enough water to the cover the bottom of the pan. Cover with foil and bake for 20-25 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 20 minutes or until crust is golden brown and sliced apples are soft. Makes 4 baked apple pies (in the apple). We felt the road entering the pit parking and the center road benefited the most racers & spectators. The last time the track was paved was December 1994. Back then it was an overlay, and the other improvement to the roadways were never paved, we just added gravel. There is a new Gulfport Dragway sign put at the corner of Canal Road & Racetrack Rd. Trying to raise money for your organization????? By: Gary Mathis So, you are thinking about organizing a classic car show for your church or organization as an outreach event. You are looking for a different kind of event that will expose more of your community to your organization’s needs. Automotive events, especially those geared toward classic automobiles are popular all over the country and attract people of all ages. A cruise-in or car show is a great outreach event that more and more charities are using as outreach events in their communities. If you organization or church has plenty of outdoor space such as a large parking lot or field or access to such space, you can have a classic car event that will draw families and people of all ages in your community. It’s an event that can work in urban, suburban, and rural environments. Cruise-ins and car shows invoke nostalgia and interest in simpler times when cars dripped with chrome instead of plastic. Imagine an outdoor event at your site where the parking lot or a grassy area is full of shiny, old, classic cars while people casually admire the cars, meet new people, and enjoy food and entertainment, all in a “low-threat” environment. This guide is designed to help you design your event, budget for your event, and conduct it. You will need lots of help and of course, you will need to coordinate the date, times, and details with your leadership. This guide is classic car-centric but don’t forget motorcycles, old trucks, late model street rods, and specialty vehicles such as hearses, old fire engines, military Jeeps, etc. that often participate in these events. Manage your expectations. It’s hard to predict the turnout for your first event. Talk to those who have organized other cruise-ins or car shows in your area (at churches and other locations) to find out what their first year turnout was and how much publicity they did. Turnout in the first year may be disappointing despite a massive publicity campaign. If you inject professionalism into the event and demonstrate sincerity that you appreciate the turnout of those who brought a car and those who came out to enjoy a car show, you will get repeat turnout and new attendees in successive years. Your event must prove itself and establish a positive reputation. It will grow as you repeat it. A classic car cruise-in or car show can be a “lead-in” to new folks exploring what your organization has to offer. It can lead to new relationships and connections to people who otherwise you may have not met were it not for a car show. Your cruise-in or car show will look a lot like ones held all over the country in parking lots and fields at strip malls, schools, parks, restaurants, and other locations. They are becoming increasingly common as a charity event. Almost everybody likes to see shiny, old cars, whether or not they know a spark plug from a tire jack. Is There A Difference Between a Cruise-In and a Car Show? Yes. A cruise-in usually does not award prizes and trophies whereas a car show usually does. I say “usually” because sometimes the two terms are used interchangeably. Categories for awards and trophies come in a wide variety, such as “Best Paint,” “Best 50’s Car,” “Best Unrestored Classic,” “People’s Choice,” “Best Muscle Car,” “Best Import,” etc. A cruise-in is usually a more casual affair. Cruise-ins and car shows often have several other features such as music (live or music CDs), door prizes, dash plaques, and food and drinks. Cruise-ins generally do not charge a registration fee for car owner participants whereas car shows normally do in order to subsidize the cost of the awards and other expenses. Car show registration fees are typically $15 - $25 per car. Spectators are usually not charged a fee in either event. I recommend cruise-ins (without awards), especially if this will be your first classic car event. Cruise-ins are more inclusive and simpler and cheaper to conduct without awards. A car show can keep some car owners home that have not yet (or just can’t) invest a lot of time and money into restoring their vehicle to show winning condition. I personally don’t mind admiring a rust bucket of a 1953 Buick Skylark that was just pulled out of a barn where it sat and deteriorated for 27 years and still smells like mouse urine inside. That is an extreme example but you get the idea. Cruise-ins can bring out more of the “daily driver” classics that are still intriguing despite their rust and imperfect interiors. You can also do a hybrid event where car owners who want to compete for awards can pay a registration fee and get a numbered windshield placard for reference by the judges and park in a designated “show car” area. All others park in a different area for the cruise-in. If you want to have a lot of family and kid oriented elements as well as

the car-related elements, you may want to call your event a Classic Car Fest or something similar. Another variation is a multi-day event. One format could be a cruise-in on a Friday night followed by a judged car show/car fest on Saturday. City downtown areas and parks often have these types of events. Decide early what kind of event you want to have. Whichever type of event you organize, consider partnering with a well-known charity or non profit organization in your area. Some people advertise proceeds go directly to the charity or non-profit organization, etc. However, I believe supporting and partnering with a well known charity or non-profit organization can create a wider appeal in the community to those unfamiliar with your organization. Proceeds from registration, food sales, t-shirt sales, etc. can be donated to the selected charity or non-profit. Examples include the Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, a local homeless shelter, a local food bank, etc. An event benefiting a food bank could have the “registration” or “admission” fee be grocery items. The selected beneficiary might even provide volunteers and participate in publicity. Regardless of the beneficiary you choose, keep your event outreach focused rather than focused on fundraising. If you sell food, keep the prices low (e.g. $5 for a burger, chips, and soda). The low price advice also applies to merchandise you might sell such as commemorative t-shirts. If you have a registration fee, keep it as low as you reasonably can. What kind of cars should you expect? “Classic cars” generally refers to cars from the early 70’s and older although there are strict age and make/model definitions for serious enthusiasts. Many events are advertised as open to all classic vehicles. Other events get specific with age (e.g. pre-1977). You are likely to end up with a mixture of original vehicles of all conditions, restored vehicles, “resto-mods” (cars that look original but have modern or high performance drivetrains), customs, hot rods, street rods, old trucks, newer or old motorcycles, and possibly some “specialty vehicles” such as hearses, military vehicles, old fire trucks, and old police cars. In some parts of the country, old tractors and other combustion engine farm equipment are also featured. All of this variation can make award categories tricky. Be specific about what you want in your advertising or leave it as “open to all classic vehicles” and enjoy what arrives.

Jimbo, I've enjoyed the 31 Ford Sport Coupe I've been driving but with it being a two-seater, it limited room for my grand kids. So I found a 31 Plymouth sedan on the Internet and it was delivered today. It's everything I hoped it would be and the grand kids love it. My son has a wedding photography business and I'm retired so it looks like he going to be booking me and my new car for weddings. I'm looking forward to taking the Plymouth to my first show in August, the Georgia Mountain Moonshine Cruizin up in Hiawassee, GA. Saturday morning I was up early for the 2013 edition of Scrapin The Coast. Scrapin The Coast is an incredible car show that draws thousands of cars and car enthusiasts to the Mississippi Gulf Coast. The low-rider custom show is held each year at the Mississippi Coast Coliseum and Convention Center and they use every inch of the grounds. This year was no different… the 12th Annual event featured a couple of thousand registered cars and trucks, tons of vendors and thousands, thousands and thousands of spectators. If you are a car nut, this is the show for you. It had it all…Hydraulic Competition, Burn-Out Competition, Stereo Competition, Giant Bikini Competition and a lot of just cool cars. I love all cars, some more than others. The Scrapin The Coast crowd was very well behaved and a pleasure for me to attend for the second year. I love cars that are cool, have a nice paint job, the right stance, nice lines, straight body panels, cool rims, big tires, nice engines and beautiful interiors. I prefer V-8 engines, but I love all types of cars. I can appreciate craftsman, hard work and a vision the builder had that manifests itself with a beautiful end result. I also prefer cars 25 years old or older. One thing I have run into in the car culture is a lot of people who only like one thing and dislike anything else. There are folks that only like old Original Cars, folks who only like Muscle Cars or Low Riders. For some it's only Lead Sleds, Hot Rods or only Rat Rods, European Sports Cars or Luxury Cars. While liking a specialty is cool, separation is not. I find this very unfortunate and a little disturbing. Any person that is a car nut; In November Emerald Coast Cruizin in Panama City Beach, FL is builds, designs or buys a nice cool car is OK with me. I don't get the another example of all cars coming together for a celebration of the best of separation. I don't get the factions or the clicks. I love all the vehicles I just automobiles. When we all come together, great things happen and you get named if they are done correctly in their respective genres. Dirt Track Memories by: Larry Dunham

Some are in wheel chairs, many are dead, none of my article have they read, but my thoughts always return to them. Final portrait of Dorothy. As most of you know I start every other month with race cars as the lead article, and the other months start with racing romance, or memory romance.

If you missed last month we left off with my going with Dorothy after the Saturday nite races on the ¼ mile, to the house boat her dad owned on the river between Memphis, Tenn. and West Memphis which is in Arkansas. Her dad was with Bardahl and she and I met at Pat Clancys garage where Pat had his 6 wheel Indy 500 Car that Danny Burke and I had been working on. To bring you up to date, her dad had 180 acres on the Mississippi river, and a 12 room house with the 25x50 house boat. I had met Dorothy when she came over to the shop with her dad. (Bardahl sponsored Pat for many, many years). We were in the river swimming about a 100 ft up from the house boat, the bank curved in and made a little cove, with a small (about 20 ft) sand beach that I'm sure was man made. Dorothy was wearing a 2 piece suit, and as I swam up to her, her top was floating between us! I swam in, put my hands on her hips, she laughed and said “ready to get married racer?” I winced when I heard that, but smiled and said “someday, maybe”. She put her hands around my neck, and guided me over to the bank. (I'm 22 and she was about 24 and really had her mind made up about the future). We climbed up on the bank, she was holding her suit top in her hand, and said “lets go back to the party, and when you know that “someday” is now, I'll let you take the top off”! It was a great party, the house boat had 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, a 15 seat bar, sound stage, and several couches with coffee tables. On the wall in the bar, was the photo you see of the 6 wheeler of Pat Clancys Indy 500

car. Sponsor was Bardahl. As I mentioned last month she had invited me over after the Saturday night races at West Memphis on the ¼ mile dirt. So It's about 2 a.m. and she takes my hand and leads me into the front bedroom. She turns on one tiny lamp over in the corner and says “I'll be right out” as she steps into the bathroom and softly closes the door! I'm standing there in my swim suit and “T' Shirt, and all of a sudden, she steps out wearing a full length white negligee, no buttons, just a belt. The swim suit is gone! She walks over, snaps off the little lamp and its dim in there, with the moon reflecting off the water, but she flips back the covers on the bed and I drop the swim suit and the T' Shirt. After that nite, I tried to date her a few times, but to no avail! I hope she found “Mr Right”. Well guys, the 6 wheeler you see in the photo was driven by “Billy DeVore” and finished 12th still running strong at the end in the 1949 Indy 500. If you look closely the guy standing behind Pat Clancy at the right rear wheel with his hand on his knees was yours truly, and Danny Burke on the left rear wheel. The 2nd rear end was a closed “Bennett” or “Sauers” type connected to the quick change rear, by a stub shaft and U-Joints. In the first midgets, quick change was done in the “cockpit” or “wheel house” by unbolting the “dog clutch” or “gear box” from the engine bell housing, and changing the gear on the end of the crankshaft where the fly wheel used to be when stock. “Outboard grease was the lubricant,” came in a tube and looked like green toothpaste. It was a direct torque tube drive to the “Bennett” or Sauers”. The gear box had vertical slotted flanges on each side and each gear had its own slotted plugs that lined up the gear box gear to the change gear on the back of the engine crankshaft. The 6 wheeler was converted back to 4 wheeler and the famous “Jimmie Davies” won several races with it on dirt. The other photo of Pat Clancys car is 1955 (still sponsored by Bardahl) and with Jimmie Davies driving in 1955 finished in 3rd place at the Indy 500. This is a Kurtis 500 B roadster and was the car to have at Indy in those days. Jimmie was a great midget driver, he won USAC Pacific Coast Midget title in 1960, and National Midget title in 60, 61, 62. He died in 1966 in a midget crash at Santa Fe Speedway in Chicago. They tell me his grandson is racing as Jim Davies in midgets at Sun Prairie, WI and other tracks.

Thunders. Summer is almost over already. Bad for the kids but good for DD. There has been a flood of sumer blockbusters come and go this hot season. It's been a dissapointing time for movie goers with little to get happy about. I just came from the theater and caught a great summer flick, the best of the blockbusters so far. The movie doeasn't really have any star power and is not highly advertised but i was pleasently surprised! im gonna save the best for last and mix itup this month with what i will call, The Summer Slam. First up is the Lone ranger. I'm not even going to list the directors, writers, etc. I will show them mercy as i wished they would have for the movie ticket buying public. This summer dud starred Johnny depp and Armie Hammer. Wow, where do i start? This is supposed to be a comedy. The only laughing i heard was more of a short chuckle that ended as fast as the script probably took to crank out. The shock value of depp dressing up wierd has worn off many moons ago and two hours of watching him mug at the camera and break the 3rd wall is not gonna carry a period piece like he used to. Armie's Lone Ranger is one for the record books, the kind of book you don't want to be in. Looks like the masked advenger is an idiot and does everything so backwards he has to put his saddle on backwards. Hey, that is some good ideas for Lone Ranger 2 coing out in 2014 straight to direct TV. Actually, i think this could have been a good serious story and the photography and effects were pretty good. They should have a redo and maybe Mr. Depp get back to box office gold.I will have to give this bomb 3 out of 10 pics. Next up we have the highly anticipated female cop comedy, the Heat. It would be to easy to say something like, The Luke Warm or The Not So Hot or.....The hype was big on this luke warm comedy. Sandra Bullock has some pretty powerful box office pull and Mellissa McCarty is a great comedic actress who has made some smart choices in portraying dumb but lovable characters. What happened? oh yeah, another thin script/story line with thirty minutes of interesting movie making and then an hour forty five left of yelling, cussing and car chases, car wrecks etc. There is a common theme hear, you have to rely more on good scripts and good directing than big names and short cuts to the punch lines. Sure, there were some funny things in this movie. Bullock was an uptight FBI agent and McCarty was a slob, street tough smart talking cop. Man, that is something we have never seen before on the big screen. I just hope they cut and run with the first couple of weeks cash returns and don't put us through two hours of pain in 2014. I was a little let down from this next comedy, grown up 2. I know, I probably should have known better. I have watched the first installment many times on TV and it has grown on me. I rarely see comedies, as I have mentioned before. I didn't see the Grown ups on the big screen and I doubt this stinker will grow on me. They really called this one in. I'm going to list the stars by last name only. Sandler, James, Rock and Spade, sounds like a law firm. All those names are big in comedy and have sold tons of tickets with lowbrow, but funny, movie stihck. I noticed Adam Sandler was credited for writing the script. It really looked like

everybody winged it and they left the best stuff in. Another case of lack of a solid script and interesting plot/story line. I know it's easy to throw the big names on the marquee and grab the opening weekend totals but you have to do the work if you want your movie to have some legs. And isn't that where the big money is, on the back end? That is pretty much where the movie going public is getting it this summer, the back ..... All these comedies are rubbing off on me and I can't help myself. Hey guys, need another writer for epic comedy releases, call me! Here is the last movie I will review and boy was I surprised by this medium big summer blockbuster, Pacific Rim. I probably see fewer sci fi movies than comedies at the local big screen but that might changed. I loved this movie. It stars Idris Elba, Charlie Hunnam, Rinko Kikuchi, Diego Klatten and Ron Pearlman. Its was directed by Guillermo Del Toro and written by Travis Beacham plus Mr. Del Toro. The genra is action thriller/sci fi and has a running time of 2hrs and 12m. It is rated PG13. I don't read sci fi books or go to camocan or whatever that convention is called. Nothing wrong with this genra, it's just not my first choice for a Sunday afternoon movie. The story line is another tried and true reading of the end of the world by monsters. Sure, its been done many times before, like the lame comedies I blew my hard earned gig money on. This film had a good script, a small back story, awesome special effects. The fast pace was a perfect foil to all this action and tense, do or die situations. I have seen a few of the Transformer films and plenty of end of times type plots. I don't know how the director pulled it off but the scale of the monsters was an awesome effect I have never seen in a movie like this. It was kind of scary to watch. I would be careful bringing pre and early teens to this. This is a nightmare making good ride that had been on the edge of my seat. I almost cheered out loud at certain climax scenes and everybody in the theater was glued to the screen. I didn't see one cell phone blazing in the darkness. I really thought this was going to be pretty bad but I really felt like watching something and I'm glad I did. This is how you make a summer blockbuster. I bet this movie will have some legs, some big ugly alien looking webbed toe people crushing legs. But humans are resilient and maybe we can come up with something that can save us. You will have to buy a ticket to find out. I give this fast paced well done pulse pumping flick 8 out of 10 pics.

They can help you decide what you need to do. If I was in your shoes, I would debate over adoption or keeping the child. I do not believe in abortion, unless the conception was of triadic events. But if you believe abortion is the answer then be careful and I wish you the best. But there are many different ways you can go. You could talk to your teachers asking if they can email your notes and set a test date for your return; or you can ask a good friend in your classes to make a copy or there notes for you. If you choose to adopt then there is regular adoption or there is open adoption. Open adoption the child will know that you’re there mother and you can get him/ her back once you’re stable enough. But my strongest advice is to talk to your mother, yes, she will be upset at first; but she is your mother and can help your threw these hard times. Sit down with her and talk to her. Have you tried pulling one aside; or sitting down with both of them and saying, “Hey, can I talk to you?” Get their attention somehow but not in a negative or disruptive way. It depends on your determination to get into the field you would be comfortable and happy in. While doing my articles and my small jobs, I’m trying to go to school to me an R.N., Registered Nurse. I enjoy helping people and I’m inspired to be a nurse like my grandfather, Chris. But this field is very hard and I have to do a lot to get into this field. But I don’t mind the hard work. Find a career you’re going to enjoy. Mathematics, Sciences, History, or Cooking; it all depends what you’re comfortable and happy doing. No one wants a job that they don’t like. Another piece of advice even though you didn’t ask, make student LOANS your last option. There are so many scholarships and grants that you can apply for; where you don’t have to pay this money back. “It ain’t the chrome mister, it’s the chromosomes that make the difference.” “Say it with me!!!!! One, eight, four, three, six, five, seven, two… Now go have it tattooed on your keister Buzz!!” For the last couple of hours, Buzz and Bobby, self-taught mechanics and life-long friends who worked at Hard Heads Machine Shop, had been troubleshooting a fresh 283 they’d built and it was refusing to light off… “Two hours Buzz! We’ve been crawlin’ this boat anchor for two hours scratching our heads and you had it plugged wrong!” “Well?!” The word “well” was all Buzz could say at first, then a few head scratches later while trying to save face said, “Well Bobby, if you’re such an Einstein then why’d it take you two hours to figure out the problem?” Bobby’s face fell into his grease smeared hand as he shook his head. A humid wind blew through the cinder block shop. It was July and there was just enough wind to move one hair on Yul Brynner’s head. “Look Fricker”, (Fricker was Bobby’s nickname, a nickname from an inside joke never mentioned in respectable company), ”you want an iced down Coca-Cola? I’m buy’n!” “Sure, let’s see if it’s true… that everything really does go better with Coke”, Bobby said sarcastically pointing at the plug wires. Buzz walked into the office to grab a couple of bottles from the vending machine. Buying Bobby a Coke was really an empty expression. For years old man Hayden, the shop owner, hadn’t fixed the vending machine and a quick rap in just the right spot would pop open the glass door every time. Mr. Hayden was wise to their tricks but figured they were both talented loyal mechanics, plus it was much easier to let ‘em get the thrill of a free root beer and bring it up when they belly ached about pay. Buzz had almost made it back with the drinks when the bells on the front door clanged and caught Buzzes attention. A tall, neatly dressed man wearing dark shades had pushed the door open as Buzz couldn’t even get the words “can I help you” out of his mouth before Bobby brought the healthy little Chevy they’d been building to life out in the shop. The zoomies they’d mounted to give her a test run roared and shook the building and Buzz attempted to yell, “CAN I HELP YOU!” The stranger just held his finger up, what he’d come to discuss could wait till the violent canons ceased fire. Buzz smiled and took advantage of the time to pop the cap off a Coke and take a swallow. The engine rapped off a few more quick bursts then tapered as Bobby shut her down. The stranger was the first to snap the silence; “I think I’m in the right place.” “Need a race motor do ya?” Buzz said from behind a half chugged frosted bottle of Coke. With a strange confidence the man didn’t reply back, he just walked past and out into the garage. Buzz, still distracted by the cold Coke hadn’t noticed till the door slammed. He ran in pursuit after him yelling… “Hey wait just a minute fella, regular joes ain’t allowed out here in the garage!”

Bobby raised his head from the carburetor still fuming from taking its first couple of breaths. “Your name Rhodes, Bobby Rhodes?” The stranger looked at Bobby blankly as he answered. “Depends on who wants to know?” The man took his shades off and reached out to shake Bobby’s hand. Through a serious grin he told him his last name was Scott. Bobby automatically assumed he was the law. Bobby’d had a few brushes with the law in his life and though he didn’t recognize Mr. Scott’s face, he thought to himself this copper wasn’t gonna lay a hand on him. He tightened his grip on the cheater bar he was holding and readied for a hasty exit. Scott asked, “You drive that red Impala parked outside over under the oaks?” Bobby’s eyes searched the man from head to toe before he answered him back. He’d decided his hands were too callused and freshly scratched to be a flatfoot so he acknowledged the fact it was. Scott told him he was passing through the gulf coast headed West, he’d decided to stay a night or two to catch some local action out at Biloxi Dragway. What he’d seen last night at the track was Bobby mop the place with every other contender. Scott asked Bobby, “Mind if I see your car up close?” Bobby, still wondering what this cats intentions were, cautiously said, “Buzz… hang tight while I walk outside to get some fresh air for a sec.” When they rounded the corner Bobby laid eyes on the car Scott was sporting; a brand new ’63 Vette and on the fenders like a little exclamation mark were Fuelie badges! Bobby decided this cat was legit. His trance on the Vette was broken when Scott asked to see Bobby’s mill under the hood. Bobby replied, “Hey look, if you’re thinking about runnin me in that,” (pointing to the Vette), ”you’ll need to lay out the stakes before I go and reveal my hand.” Scott replied, “Son I’m not here to race you but inquire about your talent.” Bobby looked over and pointed to Scott’s Vette and said, “There’s a difference in being the fastest or the quickest Mr. Scott, if you’re look’n to find out which I am you’ll need to make it worth my while.” Mr. Scott wanted to compare apples to oranges before he laid out what he had to offer; “I have no doubts you can race, however I’m looking to race power boats not cars. Question is… are you up for the challenge?” Bobby gave it some thought and figured he wasn’t letting this opportunity off the hook, “It ain’t the chrome mister, it’s the chromosomes that make the difference. Nobody’s quicker than me and when I’m done with your power boat the competition will be eat’n sea foam.” With a hand shake the deal was sealed and the plan was Scott would be in Biloxi a week later with a prepped rig ready to give Bobby the test. Buzz couldn’t believe his eyes when Mr. Scott rolled up to the Big Lake Fish Camp in a new Chevy Corvette pulling a gleaming bright and shiny new race boat all decked out with matching stripes. “Man Fricker, you’re going to be the next Dick Austin.” All Bobby could do was just smile and mutter back…“Yeah Buzz,

you ain’t just whistling Dixie man, she’s a beaut that’s for sure…a beaut hauling a beaut, like two beach bunnies walking hand in hand!” “Hey watch it Romeo,” Jane replied. Jane was Bobby’s main squeeze for the last seven years and since they’d graduated two years ago had been after him to settle down and raise a family. Right now the only settling Bobby was doing was behind the wheel of his shiny new McCall designed power boat. Mr. Scott grinned like a goat chewin’ on a green pine cone. The times Bobby was turning out were electric; he was flat-out burning up the calm Biloxi waters riding on nothing more than thousandths of a prop blade. Bobby pulled up to the dock and yelled out, “Well? What’s the verdict Mr. Scott?” “Tie this stallion up and let’s take a walk son” As they walked, Mr. Scott enlightened Bobby that what they’d just done had to be kept under wraps. He’d been secretive all along for a reason, he represented famed Bob McCulloch and this was the year they’d been plotting to knock Mercury off their thrown and Bobby was just the man they’d been looking for to do the job. Mr. Scott handed the keys to the whole rig over to Bobby and said, “Look kid, here is a check for your trouble. I have to fly out West tonight to set things up. You meet me next Thursday in Long Beach, California for the Spring Drags. Here’s my number, call me when you arrive. And look, take care of that car and boat like she’s yours.” With that Bobby’s eyes lit up. “Son, you pull off the circuit this year and I’ll see to it that she stays yours too. Just keep the cover on her and don’t let anyone near her. That boat was turning nearly ninety miles an hour out there today, the motor is highly top secret and my company aims to keep it a surprise till next week. Do I make myself clear?” Bobby’s blood was sure enough pumping as he took a gulp and shook his head nodding in agreement. “Head up kid, by my estimates, as of right now you’re the fastest single outboard craft pilot in the world. So no need to break any records headed out to California. Keep it low and slow and most importantly in one piece!”

Researchers for the Department of Transportation found over 250 dead crows near the west Texas town of Abilene recently, and there was concerns that they may have died from Dmkratik flu. A Bird Pathologist examined the remains of the crows, and, to everyone's relief, determined the cause of death was not that of Dmkratik flu. The cause of death appeared to be vehicular impacts. I'm sitting on our “dock” which is a 12 X 40 enclosed front porch that Larry built after Katarina. To me it's an extended front room, giving us 1500 sq. ft. under roof. Suddenly an all white sedan pulls up in the front yard, and a lady gets out holding a puppy dog that looks like a pit bull. “Is this yours”? She says to me - “It was in the road and sure will get run over”. “No” I tell her, “sorry.” “Easy” (my ½ Siamese Cat would never go for it) so off the lady went. I'm looking across the road, (Clermont Blvd) and the 60 ft. trees are so thick & green you can't see thru them. The trees and the puppy made me think of my mom, (who died many years ago) at that time, we had a female pit bull puppy that would lick you to death to get petted. Mom had a bad knee, and as she would come up to the house, ”Beatrice” (pit bull name) would rush out to greet her, and mom would point her finger at “Beatrice” (in Hawaiian) and say “no” don't jump” and Beatrice would sit and wait to walk in with her. (bilingual pit bull) Larry found a new (to him) bar over in Gulfport. “Workmen's Bar” is its name, on Hi Way 49 at about 34th on the West Side. “Cindy” is days with “Terry” during her days off doing days shift, “Tina” does 4 p.m. till? “Per Larry”, Bloody Marys are ($1.00 8 a.m till noon). He told me Cindy pours a great bloody mary. How does he know this? Could it be when he goes to see Jimbo (Motor SportsMagazine) he takes a detour? “Per Larry”, on “Tina's” shift its 2 for 1 well - happy hour 4 to 6. Could it be after he leaves Jimbo's he is on time for happy hour? They (Workmen's) have another bar called “Cheers” (very original) and I left some magazines there. (Larry was no where in sight!) At last when the Misfits had a car show in front of Froogles Market on Dunbar and Hwy 90 I get a chance to see the products on sale and look it all over. Last time I was there, Bobby of the VFW (Bay St. Louis) had his 66 Mustang in the show. Lets' Talk about Hawaii: See one of my favorite photo's of Duke Kahanamoku is him emerging from the surf at Waikiki, showing off the physique that earned him the title, the “Bronze Duke”. I have never coasted down a hill of frozen rain, but every day of year where the water is 76, day and night, and the waves roll high, I take my sled, without runners, and coast down the face of the big waves that roll in at Waikiki. “How would you like to stand like a god before the crest of a monster billow, always rushing to the bottom of a hill and never reaching its base, and come rushing in for half a mile at express speed, in graceful attitude, of course, until you reach the beach and step easily from the wave to the beach?” Let me tell you a little about the “Duke”. History remembers him as a transitional figure: the classic example of how men, places, and events often intersect at precisely the right moment. For Duke Paoa Kahanamoku that moment was August 11, 1911. In the still, glassy waters of Honolulu Harbor, at age twenty-one, he swam the 100 yard free style 4.6 seconds faster than any one had before him. In the course of the next twenty years he continued to defy time, competing in four Olympic Games and winning five medals. When he finally retired, at age forty-two, he could still swim as fast as when he was twenty-one. He died in 1968. www.GulfCoastMotorSports.com

Lets talk Mississippi: It's Saturday and I walk in the VFW in Bay St. Louis. All the usual suspects were at the bar. Lacy was working. (soon to be a mother of a baby girl) She tells me she works at the Waveland Pharmacy off of Hwy 90 next to Waveland Dental Center. She said they have an old fashioned soda fountain in the building. So next day, I tell Larry I have a new bar he would like! As we walk in to your right is a beautiful looking pharmacy. On your very left is a soon to come UPS Store. Then look to your left straight ahead and you will see the soda fountain. Five tables in front, and five bar stools. Larry walks in and heads for the bar and orders a vodka tonic! He ends up with a banana spilt. As he is enjoying his banana spilt I walk over to the end of the building. It has a dollar wall! Everything on the wall is one dollar! From creams to cleaners etc. So, you can put in your prescription, go to the dollar wall, and then go over to the soda fountain and order your favorite blue bell ice cream. I forgot! Thank you Lacy ( VFW bartender on Saturday nights) she picked up our tab! As I walk out the Waveland Pharmacy on my right is this little building no name on it. But they have quite a few cars in front. I walk up to the window and ask what do they sell? Sno-balls! It's called Caribbean Breeze 30 or more flavors. It's Thursday and time for me to head for Kiln. I jump into precious (300zx) turn on my beach boys tape and I am on my way. It's around 1 p.m and I pass” Kiln Bills” maybe 4 cars, “Pops” no cars! They must do good at night. I drive to see Diane, owner of Dempsey's, and it has 10 or twelve cars. I walk into her gift shop, “da Swamp Shack”, (Lee who used to be a bartender at Harold & Lillian's is working) and WLOX TV is there doing a commercial with Diane. I heard one of the producers say her food gets better and better. Diane sure knows what she is doing! I now head back to Bay St. Louis and stop at “THE STINK SHAK” Gift Shop to drop off some magazines. They are on Hwy 90. You can find them on face book “Stink Shak” and keep in touch with specials they have. It's hot and muggy (normal Mississippi day) and since it's 2:45 p.m I decided to head to the new bar, 19th Hole on Hwy 90. Happy Hour 3-7. “Scott” the owner was at the bar and Melissa was tending bar. (she reminds me of Phyllis of the Young & The Restless). I decided to have a glass of wine. Scott said he does pretty good at happy hour and nights are picking up. He has this great Golden Tee Golf Game Machine and at night he gets a lot of players. Remember Sloppy Dog on 2nd St. around the corner from Ugly Pirate Café and Bar? They have moved, across the street and down a block from the old train station on Blaize Av. in Bay St. Louis. Larry told me a new beach bar has opened across from 200 North Beach Restaurant called “Blind Tiger”. I will check it out and tell you about it next month. Larry, must have checked it out on his way home from “Workmen's Bar”! It's Friday and time for French fries at the VFW in BSL. I need to get the recipe of Stars (VFW bartender) famous “BITE ME COLDSLAW”! “News flash Bobby sold his 66 mustang”! Watch next month for some of my old and new places! A classic car with classic lines. She couldnâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;t afford one herself, but she met a guy that owned one. All she had to do was get under his skin. Make him like her so much, make her his girlfriend. She would own that car eventually. The car she is drooling over is a 1968 sky blue Chevrolet Malibu. It is hot! She has a 350 engine with an automatic three-speed transmission. It was perfect! The engine just the right size for power, but not too big for her to burn too much gas. Brittnie grew up around cars. Her father was a mechanic. She spent her youth at the dirt track, even driving when she turned thirteen. She was pretty good. Could beat the pants off of all of the boys that raced against her. She even knew how to rebuild an engine at fourteen. She never knew her mother, so she was on her own at sixteen when her father died. No brothers and sisters to help her, no other family. She took care of herself. Now twenty-one, she had an apartment, a red 1997 Trans-Am and she paid for it all by working a fulltime job inspecting cars at the local auction. But Brittnie knew how to get what she wanted. Her looks and body came to be an asset to her survival. Now she was going to use them on Jerry. Jerry, who owned the car of her dreams. Brittnie kept tabs on Jerry. He worked with a wholesaler named Jim across the bayou from the auction. That's where she first spotted the car. When Jerry came to the auction to bid, she would wear her tightest jeans and unbutton her blouse just enough to show him something, but not too much to piss off the older buyers. Yes, he was looking. She had him. "So Jerry, what are you doing this weekend?" Brittnie batted her long eyelashes and gave him her most demure smile. Jerry coughed and fidgeted with his ID tag. She knew he was interested. "Well, I uhâ&#x20AC;Ś I'm going to the river saturday. I'm gonna do a little water skiing." "That sounds like fun," she said coolly as she leaned in closer to him. "Mind if I come along?" "Well, sure!" He was excited. "What time and where can I pick you up?" "Pick me up here at the auction. How about eleven?" "Sounds like a plan." "Alright then, later." As she walked away, she flipped her head around and added, "You are picking me up in that fabulous Malibu, right Jerry?" He smiled. "Hell yeah!" "Good." Saturday morning was finally here and Brittnie dressed in her sexiest bikini. She woofed down a biscuit and a glass of juice and she was

ready. She was going to get that car today. She felt it. She grabbed her keys and her bag with a change of clothes and jumped in her Firebird. She started up her car and took off toward the auction house. Jerry was there already waiting. He was standing next to his Malibu with his arms crossed as she pulled up and parked. She got out of her car and casually strolled over to Jerry. "Whoa!" said Jerry as she walked up to him and gave him a hug. "You look so hot!" "Thanks. I wore my best suit just for you." "Well, you would look good in a potato sack, but wow!" Brittnie smiled. "Let's go!" Brittnie jumped in the passenger seat and Jerry started up the '68. It jumped to life with a loud vroom-vroom! and Brittnie was so excited inside, it was hard for her to contain herself. She loved the vibration of the engine and the cool feel of the seats on her legs. She was going to do it! She was going to have this car no matter what it took, and she wasn't afraid. She would do anything to have what she wanted. Anything! They quickly arrived at the river and parked in a shady area away from the other cars. Jerry put the Malibu in park and walked around to let Brittnie out. "My oh my, what a gentleman you are," she said, smirking. "My mama raised me right!" he replied. They walked over to the river bank and set down a blanket and a basket Jerry brought. "Just thought I would make us a little lunch for later," he said. "How thoughtful. Thank you." She gave him a tight hug so he could feel her body next to his and smell the scent of her perfume. She knew this would drive him crazy. She backed away slowly and looked up to see his eyes closed. She had him!

He opened the passenger door to the Malibu and helped Brittnie stomped on her gas pedal and held the wheel tightly. She her in. Sep 19 - 21, 2013 EVENT LOCATION Biloxi, MS - call 228-388-5971 Join us for the Great Southern H.O.G. Rally where you will be riding the Southern Edge of Freedom. Biloxi, MS sits right on the Gulf of Mexico. Our rally site is the Mississippi Coast Convention Center and the host hotel is right next door; both sit on Beach Boulevard with full view of the Gulf. After a nice ride in, you can register into the Quality Inn, unpack your bags, relax for a few minutes and then walk or ride next door to register at our rally headquarters in the Convention Center. After checking out the layout and opening ceremonies, we have a treat for all you Northerners; a Pirate’s Beach Party complete with bonfire, entertainment, and beverages will be available. It’s a chance to kick off your boots and get sand in your toes. Get reacquainted with old friends and make some new ones. This year marks two great anniversaries; 110 years of HarleyDavidson and 30 years of H.O.G. These two themes will be celebrated throughout the rally in our rides, our exhibits, and a big Birthday Bash Saturday night. Biloxi sits on a peninsula. You can’t travel anywhere without crossing bridges. Both of our two main bridges that connect our beautiful 26 miles of beaches were washed away by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Both were replaced by two brand new, up to date, very wide 6 lane bridges. We will make a 30 mile trek across these bridges with 26 miles of Beach Boulevard between the two. This will be our premier H.O.G. ride escorted by our finest Mississippi Highway Patrol Motorcycle Brigade. Friday and Saturday night’s entertainment will be provided by one of our best Southern bands on the coast; The Rochelle Harper Band. Rochelle has a powerful southern voice with a little jazz, a little Janis Joplin, and a lot of kick. We will also have entertainment at Thursday night’s Pirate Beach Party and Friday night’s pool party. So don’t forget your beach clothes and swimming suits. As the Gulf Coast Motorcycle Awareness Event Coordinator, I am ecstatic with our Inaugural Cruise-In that took place July 14, 2013. We planned this event almost two months in advance. The first two weeks, I called and contacted so many businesses in our community. It is fantastic to know that so many residents and business owners support what our organization is trying to do. At every establishment, someone had a story or two to tell about a friend or family member being in an accident on a motorcycle. One person had two brother-in-laws killed on a motorcycle within a short time span. With all of the advertisement we had, I was pretty excited with the turn out, at the end of the day. We were set up and had the parking lot roped off early in the morning. By noon, we had numerous visits from folks in the community, as well as a couple early registered entries. Before 1pm, various car and bike club members were rolling in. Some of these folks registered their vehicles, others were just stopping by to say hello and show their support. One gentleman was on his way to Advance Auto Parts to purchase parts for his vehicle and he stopped in to 'fuss' at us. Seems he has been trying for well over six months to get yard signs from our organization. By the time he left, he had numerous signs, business cards, and info on the Motorcycle Awareness Campaign as well as a big smile on his face. That was the best thing, all the smiles and laughter when folks left our booth area. It is great, to know that so many community members now have access to Motorcycle Awareness that did not have it before. Either they did not know where to get information, or they have never heard about us. I am thankful for the information packets we were able to hand out along with business cards and yard signs. We also have a large list of contacts for future events that are planned. We had six plaques available to the registered participants: · First Place Motorcycle was presented to Craig Bice, from Kiln, MS; who has a 2008 Suzuki M109 · Second Place Motorcycle was presented to Manly Hylton, from Gulfport, MS; who has a 2008 Harley Davidson Ultra Classic · Third Place Motorcycle was presented to Ray Blanchard, from Wiggins, MS; who has a 2013 Stallion · First Place Automobile was presented to Max Igich, from Biloxi, MS; who has a 1965 VW Turbo Sandrail · Second Place Automobile was presented to Julie Williams, from Long Beach, MS; who has a 1968 Chevy Camaro · Third Place Automobile was presented to Craig Easter, from Waggaman, Louisiana; who has a 2005 Chrysler 300 I wanted to personally thank everyone who helped make this CruiseIn a success.
