You may think you’ve made too many mistakes, it’s been too long, you’ve missed too many opportunities. In your heart you know what God promised you, but in your mind, the enemy keeps whispering thoughts of doubt. Deep down you can feel the seeds of greatness stirring in your spirit, but every circumstance says, “There’s no way.” But what God promised you, He’s still going to do. It may not have happened yet, but don’t worry, it’s coming together. …… Joel Osteen Cruizin’ in the passin’ lane By: Jimbo The turn out for the Atomic Blast was much bigger than last year. My thanks to all the people who came. Participants or spectators everyone seemed to have a good time. Hats off to emcee Dennis “Crab Who” Landry who is a great inspiration to many who live the “Rat Rod” lifestyle. Just like any kind of racing team all the builders put in a lot of time in the garage. Building a vehicle that will take the punishment that these builders put their ratrods through is no easy task, let alone the money it takes to get them in shape for the next event they go to. There is a build off going on right now called the International RATical Rod Build Off /Drive Off. A 1,300 mile drive off starting in Lincoln Nebraska,, with several teams from all over the world. They will be building all year long and will be driving to LasVegas Nevada. Crab is the team leader for the Louisiana entry, although not affiliated with SEMA. The drive off portion ends in Las Vegas and from there teams attend SEMA to promote their sponsors. Next time you go to Gulfport Dragway stop by and check out the MotorSports Pit Stop Garage. Jimbo, I discovered my age group! I am a Seenager (Senior teenager). I have everything that I wanted I as a teenager, only 55-60 years later. I don't have to go to school or work. I get an allowance every month. I have my own pad. I don't have a curfew. I have a driver's license and my own car. I have ID that gets me into bars and the wine store. I like the wine store best. The people I hang around with are not scared of getting pregnant, they aren't scared of anything, they have been blessed to live this long, why be scared? And I don't have acne. Life is Good! Also, you will feel much more intelligent after reading this, if you are a Seenager. Brains of older people are slow because they know so much. People do not decline mentally with age; it just takes them longer to recall facts because they have more information in their brains. Scientists believe this also makes

you hard of hearing as it puts pressure on your inner ear. Also, older people often go to another room to get something and when they get there, they stand there wondering what they came for. It is NOT a memory problem; it is nature's way of making older people do more exercise. SO THERE!! I have more friends I should send this to, but right now I can't remember their names, So please print this in your magazine; they may be my friends, too. ssandoz@ This is something we should all read at least once a week!!!!! Make sure you read to the end!!!!!! Written by Regina Brett, 90 years old, of the Plain Dealer, Cleveland, Ohio . "To celebrate growing older, I once wrote the 45 lessons life taught me. It is the most requested column I've ever written. My odometer rolled over to 90 in August, so here is the column once more: 1. Life isn't fair, but it's still good. 2. When in doubt, just take the next small step. 3. Life is too short - enjoy it. 4. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends and family will. 5. Pay off your credit cards every month. 6. You don't have to win every argument. Stay true to yourself. 7. Cry with someone. It's more healing than crying alone. 8. It's OK to get angry with God. He can take it. 9. Save for retirement starting with your first paycheck. 10. When it comes to chocolate, resistance is futile. 11. Make peace with your past so it won't screw up the present. 12. It's OK to let your children see you cry. 13. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about. 14. If a relationship has to be a secret, you shouldn't be in it. 15. Everything can change in the blink of an eye, but don't worry, God never blinks. 16. Take a deep breath. It calms the mind. 17. Get rid of anything that isn't useful. Clutter weighs you down in many ways.

18. Whatever doesn't kill you really does make you stronger. 19.. It's never too late to be happy. But it's all up to you and no one else. 20. When it comes to going after what you love in life, don't take no for an answer. 21. Burn the candles, use the nice sheets, wear the fancy lingerie. Don't save it for a special occasion. Today is special. 22. Over prepare, then go with the flow. 23. Be eccentric now. Don't wait for old age to wear purple. 24. The most important sex organ is the brain. 25. No one is in charge of your happiness but you. 26. Frame every so-called disaster with these words 'In five years, will this matter?' 27. Always choose life. 28. Forgive 29. What other people think of you is none of your business. 30. Time heals almost everything. Give time time. 31. However good or bad a situation is, it will change. 32. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does. 33. Believe in miracles. 34. God loves you because of who God is, not because of anything you did or didn't do. 35. Don't audit life. Show up and make the most of it now. 36. Growing old beats the alternative of dying young. 37. Your children get only one childhood. 38. All that truly matters in the end is that you loved. 39. Get outside every day. Miracles are waiting everywhere. 40. If we all threw our problems in a pile and saw everyone else's, we'd grab ours back. 41. Envy is a waste of time. Accept what you already have, not what you need 42. The best is yet to come... 43. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up and show up. 44. Yield. 45. Life isn't tied with a bow, but it's still a gift." giff1500@ Till next month …… Jimbo

Degrees. Old folks used to say, “Get your degrees.” Education? Wrong! Most important degrees are latitude and temperature. Those degrees are related. At 50 degrees north latitude you’re in Canada, eh? Two things about Canada. It’s cold, even in summer. It’s even colder in winter. Car repair in Canada starts with removing the A/C and throwing it away. There’s only two warm days a year. The rest of the year’s for winter wheat. At 40 degrees north latitude--Indianapolis or Columbus, or Pittsburgh. It’s warmer than Chicago, but not by much. Half the year average daily high temperature is above 70. The other half the year, morning low temperature is below frosty or frigid. Sunny summer days, about 25 per year. There are 25 sunny days during winter. Who cares? Winter’s so cold, sun don’t help much. Some days the sun melts part of the snow off of driveways. At 30 degrees north latitude, you’re in Gulfport. If you’re lucky enough to be at the beach, you’re lucky enough. Average daily high temperatures above 70, March thru November. No morning frosty days, almost never. 100 sunny days per year, plus another 100 partly sunny days. Most every day has enough sun for walking or biking or being outdoors. Gulfport’ers know good weather. They can’t really appreciate it, without comparing to the weather up north. Justin Wilson, famed Cajunchef, told about folks who moved way up north. Some he said, “went way up north, nearly to Jackson”. That’s far enough, if you want to get your degrees.

It has been a somewhat productive month for me with the Big Truck Project, made a little headway painting and installing more pieces and parts. I am very thankful to be on the almost final assembly portion of this long time project too. Things start to progress rather rapidly during this stage of most builds, and I hope this holds true for this one. I have been hampered by weather conditions on this project similar to most other folks trying to put on shows and cruise nights. During my adventures in painting this truck I am at the mercy of the weather, since all of my paint activities take place outdoors and just under a large carport. So low temperatures and windy conditions really are a deterrent to my paint activities. And the weekend rain/storm events have put a damper on many of our shows and fundraising events. Some shows get cancelled and moved to a day later and some get cancelled only to try to reschedule at a much later date. These usually put a crimp in attendance numbers. I am just thankful we are not dealing with the snow and bitter cold conditions (seems like below 40 degrees to me is bitter cold) that our neighbors in the northern States are dealing with. The ground hog surely got this wrong on so many levels, maybe next year they should try an otter, or even a raccoon, these critters are much smarter than that old ground hog. Maybe the folks in Pennsylvania can shoot old Puxatawney Phil and make them a good ground hog gumbo. I know the folks down here don't put up with too much out of their nutrias, they will shoot them in a heartbeat. Don't mistake this as complaining, I am just overstating the obvious that all of us are in one way or another, dealing with. Besides complaining about the weather is totally useless, we definitely have no control what so ever over it. So it's just best to roll with it and look forward to better days ahead. It's time for me to head out to the old carriage house and do some more stuff with the Big Truck Project, Later and till next month Gizmo

LAST YEARS 6th Annual Burning Up The Beaches 2017

Friday May 5, I headed out on I-10 for Destin, FL and one of my favorite car shows of the year…Burning Up The Beaches! Any time you head to the beaches in Florida it’s always exciting. Destin Commons has to be one of the nicest shopping centers I’ve ever been to. One of my friends called it Disney-like and I have to agree, what a great place to have a car show. I headed to the Friday night party at The Gulf on Okaloosa Island, less than a mile from my hotel. The theme of the party was The Beach Boys. It was an outside gig on a beautiful lawn overlooking the bay. Good music, good fellowship and good food. It was a great setting. I turned in early for what I knew was going to be a long day on Saturday. I could already tell this year’s show was a lot bigger as the cars started pouring in. This is the 6th year for Burning Up The Beaches and all the money raised goes to a great cause, Arc of the Emerald Coast. This group was founded in the 1950’s by parents of mentally and physically handicapped children. This group has grown incredibly over the years and focuses on making life better for these people, enabling them to live, work and play as we do and to help them become as independent as possible. Burning Up The Beaches is just one event out of the many Arc of the Emerald Coast does each year. They focus on Cerebral Palsy, Down Syndrome, Autism, Williams Syndrome and sensory impairments. The work they do is incredible. Plus it’s a great group of people to hang out with because they also know how to have fun. The car show was awesome, from 260 cars in 2016 to a whopping 328 in 2017. Our Mega 50/50 doubled this year to $4,690. There was also Slot Car Racing and Valve Cover Racing. The weather was beautiful and the spectators came by the hundreds. After the car show came the Cash Drawdown, a free dinner and live music right there in Destin Commons, a truly great day. The open road awaits you, get out there and enjoy that 17 FOREVER state of mind…while you still can!

"If you've never been to Burning Up the Beaches, make this the year. Let us show you why people call us the MOST fun car show year after year! My goal is to give you 3 days of great value fun, all while making money for people who cannot help themselves. You will leave tired, your heart full, waiting on next year, and feeling like family. I promise! Come on over!” Donna Tashik

Terry terrymasonbarfield@gmail.com

Are you used to paying $30 to show your car for a day and get a T-shirt? At Burning Up the Beaches you get armbands for 2 people, to 3 PARTIES WITH LIVE MUSIC, 5 FANTASTIC STOPS, DINNER ON SATURDAY NIGHT, PRIZES GALORE, EVENT Decal, one Event T-SHIRT, and CAR SHOW all for $80 tax deductible dollars! 8

people that put Chevy engines in non Chevy vehicles. Phillip's answer was, "it's because they work"! In addition to the '38, he has a '37 GMC Suburban, '30 A Model Ford Coupe and a '36 Ford pickup. Phillip said his interest in this hobby began with putting together model cars as a kid to putting together the real thing as an adult. However, he came to the hobby, he certainly does an outstanding job.

By: Joyce Lachaussee Something New for Lucedale Hardee's Breakfast Meet Beginning the month of May 2018, there will be a swap meet held on the back parking lot of Hardee's in Lucedale. Only car items will be allowed at this meet. Remember your junk may be someone else's gold! Hello fellow car buffs from Lucedale. We had a nice turnout for the April breakfast get together with several new cars showing up. We thank everyone who comes each month and also welcome to the new attendees. Anyone who wants to share their auto/truck or just enjoy looking is welcome. Just cruise on in and enjoy conversation, breakfast or a cup of coffee with fellow enthusiast.

A first time visitor, Mike Turner from Lucedale, surprised us with not one but two fine vehicles. The '54 Ford truck is six months into his possession. He purchased it from Louisiana just as it is. It has a 350 Chevy engine and is really sharp looking sporting the black/white color scheme. is second surprise is this '67 Jeep CJ5. Mike has completely restored this Jeep to totally original condition. He restored the original drive train, motor and transmission. His mechanic, Chad Barry, was part of the restoration team. Mike said the only thing not original is the windshield wipers! As you can see from the starting photo, they had quite a job. He purchased it in Hurley and has taken almost a year to restore. Thanks so much Mike for sharing these two great rides.

A regular at the breakfast, Bobby Hinton decided to bring this classic '53 Mercury flathead 8 for all of us to enjoy. Bobby purchased this car from another car aficionado, Bill Adams in 2010. In addition to the Mercury, Bobby has a red '66 Plymouth (that happens to be for sale). This '53 Mercury is Bobby's first foray into the collection of "old" cars. What a great way to start your collection with this beauty!

Phillip Calhoun from Semmes, Al brought his '38 Ford Coupe, which just happens to have a 350 Chevy engine. Being the "novice" that I am to the car restoration hobby, I asked a dumb questions - what's with all these

Cole Report Started out this month at the Cruise in Cafe in the Kiln, nice cruise in with a plaque for the car of the night and a cruiser special meal. The next day we headed to Waveland for the Gulf Coast Mustang Clubs St.Jude's Children's Hospital annual fundraiser at Charlie Henderson Ford. They raised around $2500 for the children as always a good cause put on by a great group.. That night we headed to Long Beach Harbor for the 4th Sat. cruise in around 35 cars at this one enjoying the local food and friends. Our next stop was the Gulf Coast Auto Show at the Clarion/Best Western Hotels on Hwy. 49 Gulfport the Coast Cruizers always do a great job with this 2 day show. Lots of stuff in the goody bags and several vendors at the show with merchandise. That night we headed to Jeff Davis Ave. Long Beach for the Friday night revival of Jeff Davis cruise in. Had a good turnout at this one and they also had live music playing at the town green. Saturday night we headed to Edgewater Mall and joined the Coast Cruizers for their cruise in with about 60 cars fun night. I ended the month with the Boulevard Cruisers at the Street Fair in Picayune. It was held on a cold Sunday after being cancelled the day before because of rain. They had 75 diehard cruisers come out to support them, ended up as a fun day with friends. One last thing I always tell y'all to try and get/keep the youngsters involved in our hobby/ lifestyle. You know to support and encourage them. But somebody (PawPaw Jerry) had his little Toot involved in a different way, waxing his C10. All I know is that little one had fun at the Charlie Henderson Show and she won Best Paint. Also I got a picture of Jimbo getting the kids involved showing them his Old School Rod. Remember to watch for our friends out riding bikes also. See y'all somewhere or everywhere. Allen Cole

I had an interesting visit with Mr. Barry Barone of B&B Motorsports in Picayune Ms. It seems to me, Barry took a fast route getting in to this car fascination hobby, sport , business. His first adventures in this gearhead addiction started in his early teens as a crew member on a drag race team, that kept him busy even through high school. And one of his first high school rides was a 66 mustang that he kept through college also. While in college he stopped with the drag race crew to focus on school. After graduating college he opened a hardware store in St. Bernard Parish. Once again he got back in to drag racing until the late 90s. He opened B&B Motorsports on Jan 1 2007 at 828 Pine Grove Rd. Picayune, Ms. After getting the shop set up and the business rolling he decided it was once again time to get back in to drag racing. So he started his own team to run Top Dragster in 2012. The shop is staffed by 6 full time craftsmen and he also as needed pitches in to get much needed tasks done to complete a project. He and his capable crew can do full on frame up show quality restorations as well as minor repairs, they can do it all. They are dealers for Vintage Air, Lokar Performance Products, and many other street rod and muscle car parts. They also are capable of doing the late model engine drive train swaps under older vehicles too. They have a very well equipped body shop and paint booth, and enough room for several projects at the same time. He even has a rather nicely equipped machine shop area for modifying or creating special parts or pieces. If you have the need for finding out what kind of horsepower your ride has or wish to do some testing and tuning to make it reach its full potential, well they have a Mustang Dyno for that too. And just in case you are wondering about your reaction times, they have a tree set up for that also. So if your ride of choice needs a minor bug repaired or a major overhaul, give him a call or stop in and visit, they are quite capable craftsmen that do some really nice work. They have a very nice operation in a good sized building, which I could enjoy filling with toys. Other than complete upholsteries they can do it all. Nice guys doing quality work for fair prices has been their recipe for success.

The Oldsmobile Curved Dash The Oldsmobile was first manufactured by Ransom Eli Olds of Lansing Michigan. He founded the Olds Motor Works which later became Oldsmobile on August 21, 1897. In 1901, the company produced 635 cars, making it the first highvolume gasoline powered car manufacturer. While the Ford is usually referred to as the first mass produced vehicle in the United States, the Oldsmobile Curved Dash was probably truly the first to use the progressive assembly-line system, at least the first to become a commercial success. Ford was the first to manufacture cars on a moving assembly line. Born in Geneva, Ohio, in 1864, Olds went to work for his family’s machine repair and engine building business in 1883. In 1896, Ransom Olds completed his first gasoline powered vehicle and the following year he founded Olds Motor Works with financial backing from Samuel L. Smith, whose fortune came from lumber. The merger of Olds Gas Engine Works with Olds Motor Works in 1899 found the company moving to a new plant in Detroit. This plant was located at the corner of East Jefferson Avenue and MacArthur Bridge. March 1901 found the company with an entirely new line of models ready for mass production. Unfortunately a mistake by a worker caused the factory to catch fire. It burned to the ground and all of the prototypes were destroyed. The only car that survived the fire was a Curved Dash prototype, which was wheeled out of the factory by two workers escaping the fire. A new factory was built in Lansing, Michigan and production of the Curved Dash commenced. Light, reliable and relatively powerful (with one cylinder??), the Curved Dash became a commercial sensation after appearing at the New York Auto Show in 1901. Officially the cars were called “Olds automobiles”, but were referred to in the area as “Oldsmobiles”. It was this moniker, as applied especially to the Curved Dash Olds, that was popularized in the lyrics of the 1905 hit song, “In My Merry Oldsmobile”. The last Oldsmobile Curved Dash was made in 1907. General Motors purchased the company in 1908. Where did the term dashboard come from? Originally, the word was applied to a barrier of wood or leather affixed at the front of a horse drawn carriage or sleigh to protect the driver from mud or other debris “dashed up” (thrown up) by the horses hooves. Commonly these boards did not perform any additional function other than providing a convenient handhold for ascending into the driver’s seat, or a small clip with which to secure the reins when not in use. When the first horseless carriages were constructed in the late 19th century, the engines were mounted beneath the driver. The simple dashboard was retained to protect occupants from the heat and oil of the engine. The gradually increasing mechanical complexity of the auto caused this panel to be a convenient location for the placement of gauges and controls. This evolved into the modern instrument panel, but the term “dashboard” stuck. The first mass-produced automobile took the name from its dash, which was curved like that of a sleigh. So there you have it, my friends. The first mass-produced car and how it got its name. Uncle Ezra likes to give you readers something to ponder when he can. This month he says: “No matter how old you get, you never realize how old you are”!

Many people assume that the art of modern day pinstriping associated with Hot Rod giants such as Von Dutch, Ed “Big” Daddy Roth and a host of others. These artists are considered pioneers of the Kustom Kulture lifestyle that spawned the early 1950s and are widely recognized as the "originators" of modern pinstriping. In fact it's origins can be traced throughout history, back prior to the roman empire whose designs embellished a myriad of objects in their every day life. From Gypsy Wagons to 19th century fire trucks, tracing a line to the beginnings of our human society. A form of expression that has unified cultures and expressed individuality throughout our history. Artists have been transforming cars, motorcycles and a list of other metal into works of art. With the rise of technology in recent years, tape stripes, stencil striping and mechanical wheel tools have become common alternatives to freehand striping - but none can replace the look, quality, and craft of true hand painted pinstriping.

For pinstripers there are no college classes, no formal training, just a tenacious attitude to keep practicing and develop a style that stands out. The art style requires not only a steady hand, but a knowledge of how the brush works, the paint works and even the paint’s reaction with the temperature and moisture in a room. You think, ‘Oh, it’s just lines, how hard can it be?’” And veteran stripers are not always willing to divulge the tricks of the trade. “It’s such an old-school skill that the people who have earned the right to be professional pinstripers don’t want to share with you. Today you can have almost have anything pinstriped. From a coolers, tool boxes, skate boards & even a nice pair of high heels or a hand bag. If you can think of it a great artist will make it happen. I have used many different pinstripers on so many different projects over the years. Awards, trophies and even personal gifts for loved ones. To take any regular object and turn them into a piece of ART is so much fun to create and watch unfold before my eyes!

Kenneth Howard AKA Von Dutch was a man, a legend and a piece of popular American culture. At the age of 15, Von Dutch took a job as a mechanic at George Beerup’s Motorcycle Shop, at a time when pinstriping on cars and motorcycles was a dead art. While working at Beerup’s Shop, he would sometimes take a motorcycle home and pinstripe just for the sake of art. He would bring them back to the shop and the shop owner was amazed at what Von Dutch could create and while that may have ended his short lived tenure as a mechanic as the shop, he was now in painting and striping. Over the next decade Von Dutch honed his art form and built his reputation as the Godfather of Modern Day Pinstriping. As he was known for living a very simple life, “ I believe it's meant to be that way. There's a 'struggle' you have to go through, and if you make a lot of money it doesn't make the 'struggle' go away. It just makes it more complicated. If you keep poor, the struggle is simple“. The famous “flyin’ eyeball" ever wonder what the logo means? According to Von Dutch, the flying eyeball originated with the Macedonian and Egyptian cultures about 5000 years ago. It was a symbol meaning "the eye in the sky knows all and sees all." Dutch got a hold of this symbol and modified it into the flyin' eyeball we know of today. His belief of reincarnation is tied into the logo that all past lives are watching what you do in the present.

After years of being a fan of this art form. I still find myself amazed to watch the paint hit the metal. With no lay out just a true artist at work. The steady hand it takes these artist and the mind set to allow yourself to follow through with a line of paint and duplicate it by sight and the feel of the paint brush . Then on someone's dream vehicle or motorcycle. It makes my own hand s shake just thinking about it! The amazing work done by my friend Michael Swann from Birmingham, Alabama, is the type of work that ranges from his love of oil painting to cursing around the Southeast covering all the festivals and events, along with teaching at a few local events this year. If you ever see him in his little black van, say HI! I was honored to have Michael pinstripe my 1965 VW bug at a local car show a few years ago. It was treat for me to have my bug finally stripped, and by a friend of mine only better! Allowing any artist free range on any type of project, only opens the doors for something amazing. I think this stands true in all art forms. Julie Fournier pinstripes under the name Junkyard Jules. She became a pinstriper at a friend's suggestion due to her skill as a painter. Whether it's a rat rod, hot rod, car, truck, motorcycle, helmet, bike, cell phone or any other object, Julie is happy to lay down some paint on it! Julie lettered and pinstriped this 1897 Baldwin locomotive and tender tank that Henry Ford used to drive around his estate for fun! It is now in use on a 2.5 mile track at The Henry Ford Museum in Greenfield Village in Dearborn, MI. She is one female with the steady hand that turns out some great line work.

Like everything in life we all have a passion for one form of art to another. Rather you are a blacksmith, fabricator, clothing designer, photographer, song writer or a pinstriper. With the passion that drives us all to do what we enjoy and to have a vision come full circle is such an awarding feeling. I have crossed many different artist over the years, and rather you work in a garage, a van in the parking lot of an event or a small home office that you create out of . To be able to express ones self, to me is something we all have within us and we should share that with others to inspire them to find that passion in themselves. XoXo

o Angle eyeshadow brush – small, soft and rounded angled tip. Made for lining lashes with cream or gel liner or shadow. Also for filling in and defining brows. o Eyeliner brush – very thin and fine with soft bristles. You can dab shadow under the lower lash line for a smokier eye. o Blending eyeshadow brush – long with a round head. Use the fluffy bristles to diffuse eye shadow in the crease of your eye or to blend multiple shades of eyeshadow together. Can also be used to blend highlighter on your cheekbones, brow bones or Cupid’s bow. o Smudge brush – flat and soft. Use this to soften eyeliner for a smoky, sultry look. Target the inner or outer corner with your darker color for emphasis. o Eyebrow brush – long, thin with tougher bristles (like a thin toothbrush) o Slanted eyebrow definer brush – stiff and angled o Spiral brush - for use to comb on any spot, small hair and to apply color

Brush and Blend By Candy Cocktail Like many of the gals reading this, my knowledge and skills with makeup have evolved. From learning about blending to how best to use concealer, new helpful tips and tricks can be additionally beneficial. Among those, I think learning about different brushes and what they are most useful for can be beneficial for your makeup routine. There are two types of makeup brushes: those made with animal hair and ones made with synthetic bristles. The synthetic are better than those made from animal fur not only because they are cruelty free, which I always support, but because synthetic brushes are made of nylon or polyester filaments which are less likely to be damaged by different makeup products. They will dry faster without holding in bacteria the way animal hair brushes can. Additionally, synthetic brushes are easier to keep clean because they do not absorb makeup pigment the way animal hair can as it opens up the cuticle of the hairs, resulting in less long term durability. These brushes are better for creating a soft, layered look. Animal hair brushes can cause allergic reactions for allergy sufferers because they are made from animals like squirrel, mink, badger and horse hair. Synthetic brushes are better suited for people with those sensitivities. The sharply cut, angled bristles allow a more precise, smooth, streak-free application ideal for creamy or liquid products like foundations, cream blush, lipsticks, gel liner and concealer. Face brushes o Foundation brush – long, flat bristles and tapered tip for applying a streak free base. Start in the middle and blend outward. o Powder brush – fluffy bristles; soft, full and rounded, best for applying loose powder, such as blush for the apples of your cheeks along your cheekbones. o Fan brush – similar to a fan painting brush, used for light touches. It can be used to clean up fallen product. It is best for applying highlighters on cheekbones, temples and Cupid’s bow. o Blush brush – fine bristles and rounded head. Good for applying contour powder which should be two shades darker than your skin tone. o Concealer brush – soft and flat with a pointed tip and a wide base. Good for covering blemishes and to clean up messy lipstick edges. o Kabuki brush – very thick and rounded with a short handle. Best for applying bronzers. o Duo fiber multipurpose brush – flat, circular and feathery head o Mineral powder brush – thick and rounded o Face contour brush – Slanted and rounded for cheekbones o Face sponge AKA beauty blender – Varied Shape, Sponge Texture. For best results squeeze it a few times under water first so that your sponge does not absorb all your foundation and it will apply evenly. Use the tip of the sponge to reach creases around the nose and smaller areas. Eyes o o

Cleaning your brushes at least once a month is recommended. To clean your brushes, you can use a homemade mix with 1 cup of hot water with 2 teaspoons of white vinegar. Stir, dip your brush, swirl it around, reshape it and then lay it flat to dry. You can also mix equal parts olive oil and dish soap on a plate, swirl the brushes around and then lay them flat on a paper towel to dry. I suggest using a makeup brush cleaner. A cleaner is relatively cheap and available at makeup retailers like Ulta Beauty for around $8. To clean your sponges, simply use soap and water. Makeup sponges, also known as beauty blenders, should be tossed once they begin cracking or every three months. Less is always more so start with a small amount of whatever product you are using and build on it. It is a lot easier to add to it than to take off makeup after it has all been applied. For covering blemishes and those horrible under eye bags, a good concealer is a must. The color correcting trend has long been a secret of make-up artists to hide or balance out uneven skin. Certain colors are ideal for particular skin concerns, such as dark circles, as almost everyone has areas of their skin that are not even. The color guide below will show the best colors for correcting and perfecting your skin imperfections. GREEN: Cancels red. Use green to conceal and neutralize any redness from acne, scars, red spots, breakouts, rosacea, sun-burn and red around your eyes. PURPLE: Cancels yellow. Use purple to brighten skin and correct yellow undertones, from things like yellowish bruises. PEACH: Cancels blue. Use peach to cancel out dark circles, bluish bruises and dark spots on light-medium skin. ORANGE: Cancels blue. Use orange to cancel out dark circles and dark spots on tan skin. PINK: Cancels brown. Use pink to correct dark spots, highlight and brighten dull skin. It is ideal to correct under-eye bags on fair skin. Pink is also ideal for brightening the face. Great for covering sun spots on pale skin. YELLOW: Cancels purple. Calms all over mild redness on all skin tones. It is best for correcting under-eye bags on tan skin. It also brightens purple undertones from age, veins and sunspots. RED: Cancels green. Covers hollow undereyes and tattoos.

A group of classic car owners approached me recently about setting up a cruise night on the West Bank of the Mississippi River in the New Orleans area. If you are familiar with our neck of the woods, you already know that Best Bankers (that’s how those of us who live on the West Bank refer to ourselves) will readily go to the East Bank for functions and activities. The majority of East Bankers, however, think of the West Bank almost as a foreign country and generally don’t want to drive across the River for anything. So, although there are cruise-ins held in other suburban areas that Best Bankers frequent, there hasn’t been one close to our homes for quite some time. We got together with the City of Westwego, Louisiana, to change that. Our little city offers Summertime Concerts at our Westwego Farmers & Fisheries Market. They have a great venue and, when there is a band playing, there is plenty of food and drink and even a few vendors. The parking lot is black-topped, so it works well for our vehicles. With the outstanding support of the Westwego Police Department, the Westwego City Council and with our Jefferson Parish Councilman Paul Johnston also helping out, we held the first WeGo Cruzin’ event on Friday, April 6, 2018. The weather forecast was terrible and bad weather was all around us, so turnout wasn’t overwhelming, but it was strong. We

were lucky however, because in Westwego it was a beautiful Spring evening. We received lots of positive feedback and are looking forward to doing this again. The band schedule is: July 6th, The Brad Sapia Band; August 10th, Junior & Sumtin Sneaky; September 7th, Aaron Foret Band and October 12th, The Brad Sapia Band returns. If you’re cruising in the area, please stop and visit with us on the Best Bank at 484 Sala Avenue. We look forward to growing WeGo Cruzin’ into a “Can’t Miss” event.

Photos By; Larry Crane Out of the blue… I got a chance to go to Tennessee and perform the Hot Rod Show at the Pigeon Forge Rod Run. It was an eleven hour trip up on Tuesday April 17. The show was Thursday, Friday and Saturday April 19, 20 & 21. I arrived about 3 pm Tuesday afternoon and dropped the Hot Rod Show trailer, got the downriggers down and leveled. Got to the hotel, got checked in and got a bite to eat. Wednesday was set up day, got everything set up and ready, was done by 2 pm and then drove over to Gatlinburg for dinner. I had planned to Facebook Live two hours of the Rod Run each day. Thursday went fine did the two hours no problem, we were steady all day. Friday was a different story, the show doubled in size and due to so many people; I could not keep an Internet connection more than two minutes. So that was a lost cause. The car show was incredible. The traffic on the way back to the hotel, oh my goodness…all three lanes of northbound traffic into Pigeon Forge was bumper to bumper for miles and miles. My hotel was south; I was OK until I had to get something to eat. I only went a mile and then bailed off into an IHOP, even then it took 45 minutes in traffic to go a mile. Saturday the car show doubled again, people were everywhere, our Veteran’s tribute was awesome, the car show was awesome. Incredible is an overused word, but not in this case. Estimates I heard were 40,000 spectators and over 10,000 cars in town for the Rod Run. Believe me…I believe those estimates…it was car guy Disney World. About the Pigeon Forge Rod Run Car Show… some of the finest show cars in the USA, wow! Scotty D TV puts together The Dirty Dozen, 12 top hand-picked cars, this year included 3 winners from the Detroit Autorama Great 8…a famous grouping of the best show cars. The 100,500 square feet of the LeConte Center in Pigeon Forge was full of fine show cars inside, plus over 150 vendors. There was also an outside car show, a large group of vendors, a swap meet and a car corral. The show sound guy, Ken was awesome; he connected the Hot Rod Show trailer to two large elevated sound systems outside and piped me into all of the expansive indoors of the LeConte Center facility, so three total outside systems. The Rod Run board of directors wanted to change their music format from traditional car show music to a classic rock type of music base, I had my doubts about it, but I put together a large classic rock playlist and it worked very well. The promoters really liked the entire show, the music went over gangbusters and I left everything I had on the playing field so to speak, I gave all I had to give. The promoters told me right before the awards ceremony that the show cars were the very best quality the show had ever seen in 30 years of doing show here. It made the judging tough as fine lines separated the very best show cars. I got to do the awards ceremony and we gave way the Top 25 awards, which was tough judging with all the top quality of show cars. The Ultimate 5 were the show stoppers. Many sponsor awards and a people’s choice award. Then came the money drawings for the registered cars…$8,000 in cash was handed out with $2,000 being the largest amount, $500 being the smallest. It took two hours to load back up the Hot Rod Show trailer and

the traffic was even worse on Saturday evening. I stopped and ate before I got to the hotel so I didn’t have to deal with the northbound traffic into Pigeon Forge, it was a parking lot. The preferred mode of transportation was walking, it was faster. The show is now over, I’m back at the hotel…and after soaking my aching body, I’m sitting down to write this column and email to Jimbo for the magazine deadline. My plan is a 5 am wakeup call tomorrow morning, (Sunday) and back on the road to the Mississippi Gulf Coast. We came, we worked and we were happy with the body of work we did with the Hot Rod Show in the Great Smoky Mountains! My next car show is Burning Up The Beaches in Destin, FL Friday and Saturday May 4 and 5, one of my favorite car shows of the year! The Destin Commons Mall is a Disney World type shopping and dinning setting, really, really nice. This year Butch Patrick, Eddie Munster from the old TV show “The Munsters” will be at Burning Up The Beaches to meet fans, sign autographs and take photos. Butch will also have two actual cars from the TV show on hand at Terry & Colbie Chastain, the car show. The Munster Coach Miss Pigeon Forge Rod Run and The Coffin Dragster. I got to interview Butch at a car show in Lakeland, FL a couple years ago and we’ll do it again in Destin. He has some great stories to tell. Eddie had a fun childhood, we’ll discuss some of those adventures. Well, got the column done and time to hit the sack, 5 am comes early…get that Hot Rod Ready to go, show car season is here and we’ll see you at the car show! til next month… Terry

I got a few comments on my “Paula” from the skating rink in Huston, (on my way to Texas City from Ca. years ago). I wrote about “Wilma” from the rink in Galveston. I was “on the road” for 12 years 1940 to 1960, sold my race car (midget) to Lloyd Corbin, 1961 and drove my last race 1962 at Bakersfield, Ca. (4th in the main) I was 34 soon to be 35. I dated the same girls more than once, always haunted the skate rinks. So, if you see a familiar name or place its another time, and maybe another gal. So, I drive into Texas City, get a paper and look for rentals. I spot one that looks good and drive up to the office of the place. When I walk in, I’m faced with a receptionist that should be in the movies! Long black hair blue eyes and a smile that makes your heart beat faster. I smile back and as we negotiate the $65.00 a month its going cost for the one bedroom apt. When she walked with me down the hall I glanced at the rest of her, 35,22,34 (I found out later). Her legs were great, and the hips were moving easily as she took steps beside me. After I signed the rental agreement, I made the move (verbally), and said “how about showing me the town tonite after work?” “Can’t” she replied got a date. “going steady or in Love?) I asked quietly. “Nope” she said with a smile, “I’m only 19, soon to be 20, and just happy”. I dropped off my luggage (my Sea bag and shaving gear bag) and headed down to Bellco Const. head quarters. Bob Callehan (my former company commander in the 15 Seabees) got up from his desk, stuck out his hand with a big smile and said “any tickets on the way down? “Only a warning, but the cop said don’t come back”! If your wondering why my Co. Commander sent for me it’s the following: We are on Okinawa WWII—our outfit was assigned to the 1st Marine Div. and we went to Port Hueneme, Ca. for Marine Training. After the initial invasion of Okinawa, we were building Hi Way #1 and also the Awasi airfield. One of the army units on our side of the island was the 1914 army engineers, and they were also building on the same jobs, together with us. The officers shared the same mess hall with ours. One day I got the call to see the Co. (Bob) Commander. I report in and he says “they tell me you have built racing engines at home”. “Yes sir” I said, he smiled and said “I want the fastest jeep on the Island”. “OK, I’ll need it at the motor pool in the am”, I replied. I had a crew of 20 mechanics and maintenance techs hired to service and repair about a 100 or more land based engines ranging from 1 piston (in size) to 8 pistons. The big ones turned the pumps for the Monsanto Chemical Inc. and I’m told the company is still there, I was hired by Bellco Corp. the sub-contractor to Monsanto. My foreman over the 20 guys was Danny Burke, and he was sitting in front of Bobs desk, and as I came in Bob introduced us. Danny look over my shoulder, out the window where my “46 Ford Convertible was parked, and asked “Ever Race That?” nodding at my car out the window”. “Sure” I answered, “Santa Ana Drags every Sunday”. (this was 1948 and Orange County drags hadn’t been built yet. I then described the engine, mods, the chassis mods, and the bows cut on the top, to make a no hump top roof. 1” shackles on front, 2” shackles on rear. Looks great” said Danny, “I’ve got a “47 Ford Convertible, and I sure would like to see how they cut the bows”, can you come over to my house for diner tonite”? I showed up and had dinner with the family, and Danny said “follow me out to the garage”, I want to show you something! He opened the double doors and there sat 2 midget race cars #4 (yellow & blue shown above) and #5 red & white. Danny looked at me and asked, “want to go race to the races at Galveston Saturday nite? It’s Saturday nite, Danny is towing the #4 car, and I’m towing the #5 car, and we heading to Galveston, Tex. (about 20 miles south of Texas City). The driver of the #4 is Danny and #5 will be “Doc” Cossie. I’m to be the “grunt” pit man, tire changer, gear changer, fuel pourer, and

clean goggles carrier. So, we pull in the pits about 3:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon, and get unloaded in about a hour. As we are unloading I hear a female talking from the end of the stands. I look up, and I see this “Darling Child” watching all of us unload, and talking with a guy wearing a suit and a tie. I nudge Danny and ask who’s that Blonde with the suit in the stands? Danny grins and says “That’s Wilma Davenport the trophy girl, and her parents won’t let her date race car drivers!”. I look at Danny and say “I’m” not a driver, I’m a pitman, grunt!”. Loud enough for her to hear me. (I was hoping that would open the door for later). Wilma was perfect for the trophy girl she was wearing her skating costume, (I didn’t know she was the feature at the Playland Park Rink). After the races were over I was loading the #5 car on the trailer and as I turned around to get Danny to help push it on the trailer, there stood Wilma, smiling, and watching! I smiled back, and said “lean into this rig with me, and we can get it on the trailer ok?” She laughed and leaned down and grabbed the rear basket (bumper) on the right side, (I’m on the left) and I can’t help looking at the cleavage of those 35’s and that 22” waist! We got it loaded, and as we straightened up I said “I owe you darlin, lets go get something to eat o.k.?” We took off after I checked with Danny and told him I was taking her home, and then I would be back to Texas City with the race car. He laughed and handed me the key to his garage, and said “keep the blinds up on the motel and watch out for the car”. The next morning as I took her home, I asked “what do you tell your folks?” (her being 19) “I tell them I stay with my older sister” she replied. Danny and I unload the cars, and the trailers (extra tires, fuel, oil, and line up the cars for he warm up, (not hot lap) and I say to Danny “where is my driver”? “He will be here, Doc is very reliable” Danny replies. Warm up start, Danny goes out in the #4 and I shift to the second group to go out. Danny comes over takes off his helmet, hands it to me and says “get in and warm it up!” Now Danny has pushed me off in the #5 many times, as we made changes to the car, and I always wondered why he didn’t have me push him off! I take his helmet, strap it on, (its real tight, I got a size 10 head and a ego to go with it! I look at Danny and say “anything special you want me to watch?” (meaning the gages) He replied, “forget the gages, this is just a warm up, follow a car in the corner, and accelerate when he does and quit when he does “you ran the drags, you just have to learn the corners”! So, “Doc “ didn’t show up, I hot lapped the car and found it easy to stay with the pack, what I didn’t know was the “5” car was .100x.100 oversize stroke and bore, and it was a Clay Smith Engine. Anyway, that was 1948, about 20 or 25 years ago, I signed up for ARM (you can find it under Google direct). My writing friend Mitch who’s a former midget driver told me the “Doc” who didn’t show , became Texas Midget Racing ASSOC. Champion. My racing pal is Mitch Guttormson and he is former driver and midget freak. (I’m talking collector of midget records, pictures, results, names, places, tracks, etc. Go to your computer and punch in Auto Racing Memories and you will go back to the 40’s. Mitch used to run the “High Banks” at Bellville! I say this with respect it takes guts to run a 50’ high bank in the turns, and stand on it! His Dad also ran midgets back in the 40’s, had #51 rail job and went fast! I’ll mention him on my birthday July 24, cause he died on the day. He was at Ascot in ‘56 or ‘57 when I got an 8th with my Ford at Turkey Nite Gardena, and my pal Johnny Tolan got 3rd! KEEP IT BETWEEN THE FENCES, AND MAY THE WIND BE ALWAYS AT YOUR BACK! "Sometimes, you never know when or why, something special may happen. On our return trip from Gulf Shores, we stopped at the ferry to cross Mobile Bay. As we pulled up to park and wait, I noticed a family in a pick up in line and waiting as well. In the back was a young boy looking at the four motorcycles with that special look of wonder, excitement, and curiosity. When asked if he would like to sit on one of the motorcycles, and after his parents nodded ok, he was out the door and over to the bikes. I could tell by the look on his face and in his eyes that he had dreams of the future when he might own and ride such a powerful machine; and be lucky like us to have good weather, good friends, and hot babes to ride with. Even young boys know chicks dig the bad boys with loud pipes on shiny bikes. This was a special day." by Mike Leach

by Mike Longo Whether you’re on a motorcycle or a car if you would like to take a day exploring the Mississippi Alabama and Florida coastline be sure to take in the dolphin Island ferry. Touring the Mississippi and Alabama coast line on motorcycles this time of the year is a great experience but I imagine not only enjoying motorcycling but also taking a ferry ride across mobile bay from Dauphin Island to Gulf Shores. The fellow in the orange vest is Tim Aguirre General manager of HMS fairies Inc. who operate the ferry service. Tim took personal issue with getting us on board. Our Saturday tour started with breakfast at Bay Gourmet restaurant by the train depot in Ocean Springs With lunch at the Oyster house in Gulf Shores . Our group really had a good time telling war stories and riding our scooters. Depending from where you start it’s only about a 47mile trip from Ocean Springs to dolphin Island, then another 25 miles to Gulf Shores after the ferry crossing. The biker gang on this trip included Mike and Maria Leach, Danny and Bunny Lynn, Frank and Wendy Schenck and Mike Longo and Janie Wallace .

What a great ride! Started the day with breakfast in Oceans Springs. Bayview Gourmet Restaurant ! The food was outstanding! Then we rode Franklin Creek Rd to the Dauphin Island Ferry. Beautiful ride sun glistening off the water! Seagulls dancing above our heads. After exiting the ferry we took the short scenic route to Gulf Shores, sweet smelling the honeysuckle in full bloom. Pecan trees popping and some beautiful old Oak trees! From the Ferry we took the short scenic route to Gulf Shores for yet another feast at the Oyster House. You gotta try the Fried Green Tomatoes with shrimp sauce or the Blackened Trigger Fish!! The weather was picture perfect and the fellowship is hard to beat! Looking forward to the next!!! Bunny! Sons and Daughters of Dementia! Live to Ride, Ride to eat!!
