Gulf Coast MotorSports Magazine Discover the True Joy at Christmas One of my favorite memories about Christmas growing up was watching my father's generosity everywhere he went. As a boy, my father didn't have much. He grew up during the Great Depression. His childhood wasn't very joyful, but he was determined to share as much as he could later in life. My father had empathy for the needy and a drive to help others. People seemed to sense it, too. I can't tell you how many times a stranger came out of nowhere and walked right up to my Dad as if guided to him by a heavenly hand. I was about 15 years old traveling with my father overseas during Christmas break when I witnessed one of those encounters. We were in a small airport terminal with a thatched roof on an island in the Philippines. I was walking back from getting a drink and a snack when I found my father talking to a young man with long hair and a backpack. They were deep in conversation, which wasn't unusual because Dad liked hearing people's stories. The next thing I knew, my father was reaching for his wallet and handed the young man a wad of cash—a couple of hundred dollars. When I asked him about it later, he said, "Well, we got to talking, and he told me he was trying to get back to the states but had miscalculated how much money he needed and was stuck in the airport. So I gave him enough to get him home to his parents for the holidays. I just kept thinking, what if that were my son or daughter, wouldn't I want someone to help them?" That's the way my father lived. He was a generous man with a giving heart. He believed the best in people and gave them the benefit of the doubt. He shared whatever he had everywhere he went and discovered the true joy of Christmas. This year, I encourage you to discover the true joy of Christmas by sharing what you have with others. Maybe you aren't in a position to buy someone a plane ticket, but you have something you can give. Even a word of encouragement can mean the world to someone who needs to hear it. Just keep your heart open and look for ways to be a blessing. Let God use you in a special way this Christmas and every day of the year! "One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty." (Proverbs 11:24, NIV)

The last issue of the year… what a busy year it has been. November reminded us to be thankful and December teaches us to be caring & generous with our feeling as well as what we can give. As a kid I remember the Christmas season as a magical time of year.. Mom & dad piled us in the car and off we went.. shopping, sight seeing, visiting, and making decorations for the ‘company Christmas party’.. great meals and plenty of holiday spirits.. Good times. But Christmas was more than that in our family… our church had the best live nativity scene, in town. At least that’s what I thought. All the kids at church wanted to take part and we took turns, standing out there by the side of the road, under the hay covered makeshift barn the men in the church built for the occasion. It was special to us and we knew why we were there. No one was there to stop us from ‘goofing around’ they didn’t have to… we were there to remember the story of Christmas and that we celebrate the birth of Jesus this time of year.

As traffic would pass by you felt proud to be standing there...cars would slow down, some even stopped and walked up to where we were. Charismas carols was the music of the day and the onlookers even joined in. Back then no one was trying to stop us, it wasn’t considered a violation of somebody's rights...political correctness wasn’t the law of the land.. peoples rights were. Jesus was the reason for the season… I love Santa, who doesn't, but the lesson of Jesus’ birth, life and death is a foundation that we should try and live up to. His gift was kindness to all of us. Shouldn’t we at least give him some space in our day to day lives... Here are some of my emails …. Jimbo, John decided to go skiing with his buddy, Keith. So they loaded up John's minivan and headed north. After driving for a few hours, they got caught in a terrible blizzard. So they pulled into a nearby farm and asked the attractive lady who answered the door if they could spend the night. 'I realize it's terrible weather out there and I have this huge house all to myself, but I'm recently widowed,' she explained. 'I'm afraid the neighbors will talk if I let you stay in my house.' 'Don't worry,' John said. 'We'll be happy to sleep in the barn. And if the weather breaks, we'll be gone at first light.' The lady agreed, and the two men found their way to the barn and settled in for the night. Come morning, the weather had cleared, and they got on their way. They enjoyed a great weekend of skiing. But about nine months later, John got an unexpected letter from an attorney. It took him a few minutes to figure it out, but he finally determined that it was from the attorney of that attractive widow he had met on the ski weekend. He dropped in on his friend Keith and asked, 'Keith, do you remember that good-looking widow from the farm we stayed at on our ski holiday up north about 9 months ago?' 'Yes, I do.' Said Keith. 'Did you, er, happen to get up in the middle of the night, go up to the house and pay her a visit?' 'Well, um, yes!,' Keith said, a little embarrassed about being found out, 'I have to admit that I did.' 'And did you happen to give her my name instead of telling her your name?' Keith's face turned beet red and he said, 'Yeah, look, I'm sorry, buddy. I'm afraid I did.' 'Why do you ask?' 'She just died and left me everything.' (And you thought the ending would be different, didn't you?... you know you smiled... now keep that smile for the rest of the day!) Derrell B. Jimbo, My husband and I had been happily married (most of the time) for five years but hadn't been blessed with a baby. I decided to do some serious praying and promised God that if he would give us a child, I would be a perfect mother, love it with all my heart and raise it with His word as my guide. God answered my prayers and blessed us with a son. The next year God blessed us with another son. The following year, He blessed us with yet another son. The year after that we were blessed with a daughter. My husband thought we'd been blessed right into poverty. We now had four children, and the oldest was only four years old. I learned never to ask God for anything unless I meant it. As a minister once told me, "If you pray for rain, make sure you carry an umbrella." I began reading a few verses of the Bible to the children each day as they lay in their cribs. I was off to a good start. God had entrusted me with four children and I didn't want to disappoint Him. I tried to be patient the day the children smashed two dozen eggs on the kitchen floor searching for baby chicks. I tried to be understanding... when they started a hotel for homeless frogs in the spare bedroom, although it took me nearly two hours to catch all

twenty-three frogs. When my daughter poured ketchup all over herself and rolled up in a blanket to see how it felt to be a hot dog, I tried to see the humor rather than the mess. In spite of changing over twenty-five thousand diapers, never eating a hot meal and never sleeping for more than thirty minutes at a time, I still thank God daily for my children. While I couldn't keep my promise to be a perfect mother - I didn't even come close... I did keep my promise to raise them in the Word of God. I knew I was missing the mark just a little when I told my daughter we were going to church to worship God, and she wanted to bring a bar of soap along to "wash up" Jesus, too. Something was lost in the translation when I explained that God gave us everlasting life, and my son thought it was generous of God to give us his "last wife." My proudest moment came during the children's Christmas pageant. My daughter was playing Mary, two of my sons were shepherds and my youngest son was a wise man. This was their moment to shine. My five-year-old shepherd had practiced his line, "We found the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes." But he was nervous and said, "The baby was wrapped in wrinkled clothes." My four-year-old "Mary" said, "That's not 'wrinkled clothes,' silly. That's dirty, rotten clothes." A wrestling match broke out between Mary and the shepherd and was stopped by an angel, who bent her halo and lost her left wing. I slouched a little lower in my seat when Mary dropped the doll representing Baby Jesus, and it bounced down the aisle crying, "Mama-mama." Mary grabbed the doll, wrapped it back up and held it tightly as the wise men arrived. My other son stepped forward wearing a bathrobe and a paper crown, knelt at the manger and announced, "We are the three wise men, and we are bringing gifts of gold, common sense and fur." The congregation dissolved into laughter, and the pageant got a standing ovation. "I've never enjoyed a Christmas program as much as this one," laughed the pastor, wiping tears from his eyes "For the rest of my life, I'll never hear the Christmas story without thinking of gold, common sense and fur." "My children are my pride and my joy and my greatest blessing," I said as I dug through my purse for an aspirin. Jesus had no servants, yet they called Him Master. Had no degree, yet they called Him Teacher. Had no medicines, yet they called Him Healer. Had no army, yet kings feared Him.. He won no military battles, yet He conquered the world. He committed no crime, yet they crucified Him. He was buried in a tomb, yet He lives today. I feel honored to serve such a Leader who loves us… GOD BLESS YOU ALL!!! Sent in by Giff1500@ Jimbo, Each December, I vowed to make Christmas a calm and peaceful experience. I had cut back on nonessential obligations -- extensive card writing, endless baking, decorating, and even overspending. Yet still, I found myself exhausted, unable to appreciate the precious family moments, and of course, the true meaning of Christmas. My son, Nicholas, was in kindergarten that year. It was an exciting season for a six-year-old. For weeks, he'd been memorizing songs for his school's "Winter Pageant." I didn't have the heart to tell him I'd be working the night of the production. Unwilling to miss his shining moment, I spoke with his teacher. She assured me there'd be a dress rehearsal the morning of the presentation. All parents unable to attend that evening were welcome to come then. Fortunately, Nicholas seemed happy with the compromise. So, the morning of the dress rehearsal, I filed in ten minutes early, found a spot on the cafeteria floor and sat down. Around the room, I saw several other parents quietly scampering to their seats. As I waited, the students were led into the room. Each class, accompanied by their teacher, sat cross-legged on the floor. Then, each group, one by one, rose to perform their song. Because the public school system had long stopped referring to the holiday as Christmas," I didn't expect anything other than fun, commercial entertainment - songs of reindeer, Santa Claus, snowflakes and good cheer. So, when my son's class rose to sing,
www.GulfCoastMotorSports.com
"Christmas Love," I was slightly taken aback by its bold title. Nicholas was aglow, as were all of his classmates, adorned in fuzzy mittens, red sweaters, and bright snowcaps upon their heads. Those in the front row-center stage -held up large letters, one by one, to spell out the title of the song. As the class would sing "C is for Christmas," a child would hold up the letter C. Then, "H is for Happy," and on and on, until each child holding up his portion had presented the complete message, "Christmas Love." The performance was going smoothly, until suddenly, we noticed her; a small, quiet, girl in the front row holding the letter "M" upside down -- totally unaware her letter "M" appeared as a "W." The audience of 1st through 6th graders snickered at this little one's mistake. But she had no idea they were laughing at her, so she stood tall, proudly holding her "W." Although many teachers tried to shush the children, the laughter continued until the last letter was raised, and we all saw it together. A hush came over the audience and eyes began to widen. In that instant, we understood the reason we were there, why we celebrated the holiday in the first place, why even in the chaos, there was a purpose for our festivities. For when the last letter was held high, the message read loud and clear: "C H R I S T W A S L O V E" And, I believe, He still is. Amazed in His presence... Humbled by His love. May each of you have a Merry Christmas and a blessed New Year as you reflect on His Amazing Love for us. Hope you all have a wonderful Christwaslove holiday season. karen_quinley55@ Jimbo, Clutching their Christmas shopping bags, Ellen and Kay woefully gazed down at a dead cat ... in the mall parking lot. Obviously a recent hit---no flies, no smell. What business could that poor kitty have had here?" murmured Ellen. "Come on, Ellen, let's just go..." But Ellen had already grabbed her shopping bag and was explaining, "I'll just put my things in your bag, and then I'll take the
tissue." She dumped her purchases into Kay's bag and then used the tissue paper to cradle and lower the former feline into her own Dillard's bag and cover it. They continued the short trek to the car in silence, stashing their goods in the trunk. But it occurred to both of them that if they left Ellen's burial bag in the trunk, warmed by the Texas sunshine while they ate, Kay's Lumina would soon lose that new-car smell. They decided to leave the bag on top of the trunk, and they headed over to Luby's Cafeteria. After they cleared the serving line and sat down at a window table, they had a view of Kay's Chevy with the Dillard's bag still on the trunk. BUT not for long!!!!! As they ate, they noticed a blackhaired woman in a red gingham shirt stroll by their car, look quickly this way and that, and then hook the Dillard's bag without breaking stride. She quickly walked out of their line of vision. Kay and Ellen shot each other a wide-eyed look of amazement. It all happened so fast that neither of them could think how to respond. "Can you imagine?" finally sputtered Ellen. "The nerve of that woman!" Kay sympathized with Ellen, but inwardly a laugh was building as she thought about the grand surprise awaiting the red-gingham thief. Just when she thought she'd have to giggle into her napkin, she noticed Ellen's eyes freeze in the direction of the serving line.

Following her gaze, Kay recognized with a shock the black-haired woman with the Dillard's bag, THE Dillard's bag, hanging from her arm, brazenly pushing her tray toward the cashier. Helplessly they watched the scene unfold: After clearing the register, the woman settled at a table across from theirs, put the bag on an empty chair and began to eat. After a few bites of baked whitefish and green beans, she casually lifted the bag into her lap to survey her treasure. Looking from side to side, but not far enough to notice her rapt audience three tables over, she pulled out the tissue paper and peered into the bag. Her eyes widened, and she began to make a sort of gasping noise. The noise grew. The bag slid from her lap as she sank to the floor, wheezing and clutching her upper chest. The beverage cart attendant quickly recognized a customer in trouble and sent the busboy to call 911, while she administered the Heimlich maneuver. A crowd quickly gathered that did not include Ellen and Kay, who remained riveted to their chairs for seven whole minutes until the ambulance arrived. In a matter of minutes the black-haired woman emerged from the crowd, still gasping, strapped securely on a gurney. Two well-trained EMS volunteers steered her to the waiting ambulance, while a third scooped up her belongings. The last they saw of the distressed cat-burglar, she disappeared behind the ambulance doors, the Dillard's bag perched on her stomach. My mom always taught me if it doesn't belong to you don't touch it, guess she didn't have a wise mom like I do. Serves her right, God does take care of those who do bad things! sharonshouse@ Jimbo, This happened at an assisted living center my father is living at. The people who lived there have small apartments but they all eat at a central cafeteria. One morning one of the residents didn't show up for breakfast, so another guy's wife went upstairs and knocked on his door to see if everything was OK. She could hear him through the door and he said that he was running late and would be down shortly, so she went back to the dining area. An hour later he still hadn't arrived so she went back up towards his room and she found him on the stairs. He was coming down the stairs but was having a hard time. He had a death grip on the handrail and seemed to have trouble getting his legs to work right. She told him she was going to call an ambulance but he told her no, he wasn't in any pain and just wanted to have his breakfast. So, she helped him the rest of the way down the stairs and he had his breakfast. When he tried to return to his room he was completely unable to get up even the first step so they called an ambulance for him. A couple hours later she called the hospital to see how he was doing. The receptionist there said he was fine, he just had both of his legs in one leg of his boxer shorts. starr007@ Jimbo, The other day I went over to a nearby Pharmacy. When I got there... I went straight to the back of the Store to where the Pharmacist's' Counter is located. I took out my little brown bottle along with a teaspoon and laid them both onto the counter. The Pharmacist came over smiled and asked if he could help me... I said... "Yes! Could you please taste this for me?" Being I'm kinda old...I guess the Pharmacist just went along with me...He picked up the spoon and put a tiny bit of the liquid on his tongue and swirled it around. Then with a stomach-churning look on his face... he spits it out on the floor and began coughing...When he finally was finished. I looked him right in the eye asked... "Now... does that taste sweet to you?" The Pharmacist... shaking his head back and forth with a venomous look in his eyes yelled... "HECK NO!!!" ?? So I said... "Oh thank God! That's such a relief! My Doctor told me to get a Pharmacist to test my Urine for sugar!" joeycarona@

Juli Bocek presents the Gulf Coast MotorSports Magazine trophy to Robert and Aileen Barbin. Their 1965 Corvette won the award at the annual Vets by the Shore Show held inside the Mississippi Coast Coliseum. There is an epic pre-party each year the Friday night before the show and Robert and Aileen came as Vikings. Robert and Aileen braved the heavy weather all the way from Louisiana to Mississippi to make the show on Saturday the 26th of Oct. In spite of the terrible weather, 100 cars and about 200 people showed up from as far away as Washington State. With the heavy rains and high winds outside, we were happy to be inside the coliseum this year. All seemed to have a great time raising funds for five local Mississippi charities.

Tom and Juli Bocek tailored home this1969 Corvette barn find from North Carolina in 2010. It is a rare car with all numbers matching. A 427 cu, 4speed M21 trans, and air conditioning. Each piece of the car was painstakingly researched, and refurbished or replaced to be completely original, right down to the old TeePee style hose clamps. The 8 year restoration has resulted in many trophies winning first in it’s class. Juli is beautiful, and a fine mechanic. She can change the clutch in a standard transmission, rebuild a carburetor, and was instrumental in the installation of the refreshed 427 cu engine. Juli says “This car is fun to drive!”
A quick update on the Chases Big Truck project, I had to get larger felt channel material as well as larger tracks for the felt channel. After installing these, I thought it best to install the window motor mechanisms and the new glass and to give it a trial run. With all of the door latch mechanisms in place I gave them a test run. As luck would have it, we did not pass the test. We had interference issues in a couple of key areas. One issue was an easy fix, remove and cut an attaching bolt/screw and reinstall. After that slight modification the second issue would not be so easy to fix. I have figured a solution but am waiting on some new cable material and my new design connector for those cables. I do so really want to get this door situation over with soon. Rest assured when the day comes, when I get to paint and reinstall these doors everyone within shouting distance will hear my shout of great joy. The Queen has given me the go ahead to order the last two pieces to complete this entire door process. She even offered to pay for them. Seems Mrs. Claus lives and resides at the Queens Castle. This peasant is very thankful for the generosity of the Queen. Let me just say she has been entirely supportive of my efforts and at times my frustrations during this restoration/customization of the whole project. For that alone I am very thankful. She has witnessed my automotive madness and projects many times over. Although at times she never shared the same vision as I had with some of the junk, I had dragged home. But when they were done, she thought most all of them to be cool. The little four-wheeler project has been a complete head scratcher for me. Just about every thing in its ignition circuit has been replaced and it still will not run. I may have to bring it to a little shop up here for further testing and possible repair. At this point I suspect a possible grounding of the necessary signal to create spark. This month brings about many charitable events, many motorcycle toy runs and many car clubs put on toy drives, I try to support as many as I can, and often do them all along the Coast and up my way. I enjoy the riding mostly in the cooler weather, and also connecting with friends at all of these events. As the song says It’s the most wonderful time of the year. Weather its clothing, toys, cash, or food for the various food banks, it is a blessing to give, and I am sure those on the receiving end are quite Thankful. Lets all in solemn remembrance, never forget the events of December 7th 1941, the day that will live in infamy. And lets never forget the sacrifices made that day by many of our military and throughout the years that followed. And thanks to our men and women in uniform today, for standing up for our country and our rights and freedoms. We owe you all a debt that we may never be able to repay. Lets always remember too to keep Christ in Christmas, he is the reason for the season. So, from the Queens castle and Gizmos Carriage house, Merry Christmas and a Blessed New Year CHRISTMAS PARTY MEMO TO: ALL EMPLOYEES... I'm happy to inform you that the company Christmas Party will take place on December 23rd at Luigi's Open Pit Barbecue. There will be lots of spiked eggnog and a small band playing traditional carols ... feel free to sing along. And don't be surprised if our CEO shows up dressed as Santa Claus to light the Christmas tree! Exchange of gifts among employees can be done at that time; however, no gift should be over $10. Merry Christmas to you and your family. Patty Lewis Human Resources Director

The Cole Report this time of the year brings us to a lot of Trunk-rTreats and Fall Festivals. We cruised up to Neco's Family Grocery for their Annual Trunk-r-Treat. What a night 900 plus kids coming through the parking lot. Timmy and his Neco's crew supplied us with all the candy to giveaway. That's true community involvement as they always do. The next stop brought us to Poplarville and the Annual St. Joseph's Catholic Church Fall Festival. Fun day with 50 plus cars. This one has bingo, cake walks, raffles, indoor yard sale and lots of prizes they draw. The following weekend we were at the Bay St Louis train depot for the Misfits Street Krewzers annual trunk-r-treat. They had about 30 cars/trucks participate to load the 150 + kids up with treats. On Thursday we helped finish out the final Silver Slipper Casino car/bike/jeep night. First Friday of the month had us at the final Friday cruise in on Jeff Davis Ave in Long Beach. On a cold night we only had 20 cars/ trucks show up and brave the weather. Still made for a nice evening for those who like to ride. The big show we made it too, was the Fort Pike Fire department benefit show at Fort Pike La. This was another nice day and show. They had 90 plus rides at this one. Also we enjoyed the tour of the Fort along with the Civil War Re-enactors visiting with us plus their firing cannon and rifles. We finished out the Month over in Slidell at the Coastal Cruisers cruise-in. About 45 cars/trucks at this one. They had a group doing a benefit frying some good fish in the parking lot. So you know the cruisers all went over and made donations and purchased dinners. Just Cruise and remember to watch for our friends out riding their bikes. Allen

but dey say it wasn't in dair contract. Dey probably think they to good ta skin nutrias I caught las night.
Although there holiday traditions around the world, not all of them translate well from culture to culture. For example, here's how an fine old English tradition is not thoroughly understood among the Cajuns who live the Atchafalaya Swamp in Louisiana. Glossary note: The French language used by the Cajuns is different from that spoken in France. It developed in isolation over 200 years, so some of the references are archaic in modern French. The word "coonass," for example, comes from a Cajun-French term that means stupid person. In modern times, it is frequently used in affectionate derision: ie, "You coonass! Doan you know you not stand up in de pirogue? You okay?" The 12 days of Christmas on the Bayou Day 1: Dear Boudreaux, Thanks for de bird in de Pear tree. I fix it las' night with dirty rice. I doan tink de pear tree will grow in the swamp, so I swap it for a Satsuma. Day 2: Dear Boudreaux, You letter say you sent two turtle doves, but all I got was two scrawny pigeons. Anyway, I mixed dem with andouille an made some gumbo out of dem. Day 3: Dear Boudreaux, Why doan you sent some crawfish? I'm tired of eating dem darn birds. I gave two of dose prissy French chickens to Marie Trahan over at Grans Bayou an fed the tird one to my dog, Phideaux. Marie needed some sparing partners for her fighting rooster.
Day 4: Dear Boudreaux, Mon Dieux! I tol you no more friggin birds. Deez four, what you call dem "calling birds" were so noisy you could hear dem all de way to Napoleonville. I used dere necks for my crab traps, an fed de rest of dem to de gators. Day 5: Dear Boudreaux, You finally sent somethin useful. I like dem golden rings, me. I hocked dem at da pawn shop in Thibodeaux and got enuf money to fix da shaft on my shrimp boat an buy a round for da boys at de Raisin' Cane Lounge. Merci Beaucoup! Day 6: Dear Boudreaux, Couchon! Back to da birds, you coonass turkey! Poor egg suckin' Phideaux is scared to death at dem six geeeses. He tried to eat dems eggs and dey peck de heck out ah his snout. Dey good at eating cockroaches, though. I may stuff one of dem wit erster dressing on Christmas day. Day 7: Dear Boudreaux, I'm gonna wring your fool neck next time I see you. Thibeau, da mailman, is ready to kill ya. The merde from all dem birds is stinkin' up his mailboat. He afraid someone will slip on dat stuff and sue him good. I let those seven swans loose to swim on de bayou and some duck hunters from Mississippi blasted dem out of de water. Talk to you tomorrow. Day 8: Dear Boudreaux, Poor ole Thibeau, he had to make tree trips on his mailboat to deliver dem 8 maids a milkin and their cows. One of dem cows got spooked by da alligators and almost tipped over da boat. I doan like dem shiftless maids, me no. I tolt dem to get to work guttin fish and sweeping the shack www.GulfCoastMotorSports.com
Day 9: Dear Boudreaux, What you trying to do Huh? Thibeau had to borrow the Lutcher ferry to carry dem jumpin twits you call Lords-a-Leaping across the bayou. As soon as dey gots here dey wanted a tea break with crumpets. I doan know what dat means but I says, *Well La Di Da. You get Chicory coffee or nuttin.* Mon Dieu, Emile. What I'm gonna feed all dese bozos? Dey too snooty for fried nutria, and de cows done eat my turnip greens. Day 10: Dear Boudreaux, You got to be outs you mind! If de mailman don't kill you, I will for sure. Today he deliver 10 half nakid floozies from Bourbon Street. Dey said dey be *Ladies Dancin* but dey doan act like ladies in front of dose Limey twits. Dey almos left after one of dem got bit by a water moccasin over by da out-house. I had to butcher 2 cows to feed toute le monde an get toilet paper. The Sears catalog wasn't good enuf fer dose hoity toity lord's royal behin. Day 11: Dear Boudreaux, Where Y'at. Cheerio an pip pip. Your 11 pipers piping arrives today from the House of Blues, second lining as dey got off de boat. We fixed snuffed goose and beef jambalaya, finished da whiskey and we having a fais-dodo. As a joke, my brother used to hang a pair of panty hose over his fireplace before Christmas. He said all he wanted was for Santa to fill them. What they say about Santa checking the list twice must be true because every Christmas morning, although Jay's kids' stockings were overflowed, his poor pantyhose hung sadly empty. One year I decided to make his dream come true. I put on sunglasses and went in search of an inflatable love doll. They don't sell those things at Wal-Mart. I had to go to an adult bookstore downtown. If You've never been in a X-rated store, don't go. You'll only confuse yourself. I was there an hour saying things like, "What does this do?" "You're kidding me!" "Who would buy that?" Finally, I made it to the inflatable doll section. I wanted to buy a standard, uncomplicated doll that could also substitute as a passenger in my truck so I could use the car pool lane during rush hour. Finding what I wanted was difficult. Love dolls come in many different models. The top of the line, according to the side of the box, could do things I'd only seen in a book on animal husbandry. I settled for "Lovable Louise." She was at the bottom of the price scale. To call Louise a "doll" took a huge leap of imagination. On Christmas Eve, with the help of an old bicycle pump, Louise came to life. My sister-in-law was in on the plan and let me in during the wee morning hours, long after Santa had come and gone, I filled the dangling pantyhose with Louise's pliant legs and bottom. I also ate some cookies and drank what remained of a glass of milk on a nearby tray. I went home, and giggled for a couple of hours. The next morning my brother called to say that Santa had been to his house and left a present that had made him VERY happy but had left the dog confused. She would bark, start to walk away, then come back and bark some more. We all agreed that Louise should remain in her panty hose so the rest of the family could admire her when they came over for the traditional Christmas dinner. My grandmother noticed Louise the moment she walked in the door. "What the hell is that?" she asked. My brother quickly

explained, "It's a doll." "Who would play with something like that?" Granny snapped. I had several candidates in mind, but kept my mouth shut. "Where are her clothes?" Granny continued. "Boy, that turkey sure smells nice, Gran," Jay said, trying to steer her into the dining room. But Granny was relentless. "Why doesn't she have any teeth?" Again, I could have answered, but why would I? It was Christmas and no one wanted to ride in the back of the ambulance saying, "Hang on Granny, Hang on!" My grandfather, a delightful old man with poor eyesight, sidled up to me and said, " Hey, who's the naked gal by the fireplace?" I told him she was Jay's friend. A few minutes later I noticed Grandpa by the mantel, talking to Louise. Not just talking, but actually flirting. It was then that we realized this might be Grandpa's last Christmas at home. The dinner went well. We made the usual small talk about who had died, who was dying, and who should be killed, when suddenly Louise made a noise that sounded a lot like my father in the bathroom in the morning. Then she lurched from the panty hose, flew around the room twice, and fell in a heap in front of the sofa. The cat screamed. I passed cranberry sauce through my nose, and grandpa ran across the room, fell to his knees, and began administering mouth to mouth resuscitation. My brother fell back over his chair and wet his pants and Granny threw down her napkin, stomped out of the room, and sat in the car. It was indeed a Christmas to treasure and remember. Later in my brother's garage, we conducted a thorough examination to decide the cause of Louise's collapse. We discovered that Louise had suffered from a hot ember to the back of her right thigh. Fortunately, thanks to a wonder drug called duct tape, we restored her to perfect health. Louise went on to star in several bachelor party movies. I think Grandpa still calls her whenever he can get out of the house.

By: Joyce Lachaussee Even though the weather was pretty nippy, we still had a group of hardy car enthusiast out for the Hardee's Breakfast Cruise In. There was a lot of time spent inside Hardee's talking about cars but finally the bravest made it outside.
Woodrow and Jerry Dickinson from Vinegar Bend, Alabama showed up with this 1953 Chevy truck. Woodrow bought this truck over 40 years ago for a whopping $50! Truck hasn't been cranked since 1973. His son, Jerry, decided to crank it for a Father's Day present this past June. Seems it had 2 bent rods, which he replaced, and it's been running ever since. Nice Fathers Day present if you ask me. They plan on leaving it stock.
Everyone had recuperated from Cruising the Coast and were looking forward to the Walt Massey car show on Saturday. The Hardee's cruise in is such a great place to enjoy the hobby of cars. We have hot rodders, rat rodders, stock cars, resto mods and everything in between participate. The best part of the breakfast is no work involved, no meetings to attend, no dues to pay - just eating a biscuit, drinking coffee and swapping car tales. Come join us and bring your car or just come look. We meet every second Friday of the month 7:30 until at Hardee's in Lucedale.
Thanks Amy Cross was doing the Hardee's Breakfast October article while Mike and I were on vacation. Don't be surprised if you aren't asked to do that again Amy!!!
How to Detect a Mental Deficiency A noted psychiatrist was a guest at a dinner party, and his hostess naturally broached the subject in which the doctor was most at ease. "Would you mind telling me, Doctor," she asked, "how you detect a mental deficiency in somebody who appears completely normal?" "Nothing is easier," he replied. "You ask a simple question which anyone should answer with no trouble. If he hesitates, that puts you on the track." "What sort of question?" "Well, you might ask him, 'Captain Cook made three trips around the world and died during one of them. Which one?' The hostess thought a moment, then said with a nervous laugh, "You wouldn't happen to have another example would you? I must confess I don't know much about history." December 2nd TO: ALL EMPLOYEES... In no way was yesterday's memo intended to exclude our Jewish employees. We recognize that Hanukkah is an important holiday that often coincides with Christmas (though unfortunately not this year). However, from now on we're calling it our "Holiday Party." The same policy applies to employees who are celebrating Kwanzaa at this time. There will be no Christmas tree and no Christmas carols sung. Happy Holidays to you and your family. "Hi, Santa! Remember me?!" Three years ago, a little boy and his grandmother came to see Santa at our Mall in Dallas. The child climbed up on his lap, holding a picture of a little girl. "Who is this?" asked Santa, Smiling. "Your friend? Your sister?" "Yes, Santa," he replied. "My sister, Sarah , Who is very sick," he said sadly. Santa glanced over at the grandmother who was waiting nearby, and saw her dabbing her eyes with a tissue. "She wanted to come with me to see you, oh, so very much, Santa!" the child exclaimed. "She misses you," he added softly. Santa tried to be cheerful and encouraged a smile to the boy's face, asking him what he wanted Santa to bring him for Christmas. When they finished their visit, the Grandmother came over to help the child off his lap, and started to say something to Santa, but halted. "What is it?" Santa asked warmly. "Well, I know it's really too much to ask you, Santa, but ." The old woman began, shooing her grandson over to one of Santa's elves to collect the little gift which Santa gave all his young visitors. "The girl in the photograph is my granddaughter .. Well, you see ... She has leukemia and isn't expected to make it even through the holidays," She said through tear-filled eyes. "Is there any way, Santa ... Any possible way that you could come see Sarah? That's all she's asked for, for Christmas, is to see Santa." Santa blinked and swallowed hard and told the woman to leave information with his elves as to where Sarah was, and he would see what he could do. Santa thought of little else the rest of that afternoon. He knew what he had to do. "What if it were MY child lying in that hospital bed, dying," he thought with a sinking heart, "this is the least I can do." When Santa finished visiting with all the boys and girls that evening, he retrieved from his helper the name of the hospital where Sarah was staying. He asked the assistant location manager how to get to Children's Hospital. "Why?" Rick asked, with a puzzled look on his face. Santa relayed to him the conversation with Sarah's grandmother earlier that day. "C'mon .... I'll take you there," Rick said softly. Rick drove them to the hospital and came inside with Santa. They found out which room Sarah was in. A pale Rick said he would wait out in the hall. Santa quietly peeked into the room through the half-closed door and saw little Sarah on the bed. The room was full of what appeared to be her family; there was the Grandmother and the girl's brother he had met earlier that day. A woman whom he guessed was Sarah 's mother stood by the bed, gently pushing Sarah 's thin hair off her forehead. And another woman who he discovered later was Sarah 's aunt, sat in a chair near the bed with weary, sad look on her face. They were talking quietly, and Santa could sense the warmth and closeness of the family, and their love and concern for Sarah. Taking a deep breath, and forcing a smile on his face, Santa entered the room, bellowing a hearty, "Ho, ho, ho!" "Santa!" shrieked little Sarah weakly, as she tried to escape her bed to run to him, IV tubes in tact. Santa rushed to her side and gave her a warm hug. A child the tender age of his own son -- 9 years old -- gazed up at him with wonder and excitement. Her skin was pale and her short tresses bore telltale bald patches from the effects of chemotherapy. But all he saw when he looked at her was a pair of huge, blue eyes. His heart melted, and he had to force himself to choke back tears. Though his eyes were riveted upon Sarah 's face, he could hear the gasps and quiet sobbing of the women in the room. As he and Sarah began talking, the family crept quietly to the bedside one by one, squeezing Santa's shoulder or his hand gratefully, whispering "thank you" as they gazed sincerely at him with shining eyes. Santa and Sarah talked and talked, and she told him excitedly all the toys she wanted for Christmas, assuring him she'd been a very good girl that year. As their time together dwindled, Santa felt led in his spirit to pray for Sarah, and asked for permission from the girl's mother. She nodded in agreement and the entire family circled around Sarah's bed, holding hands. Santa looked intensely at Sarah and asked her if she believed in angels. "Oh, yes, Santa ... I do!" she exclaimed. "Well, I'm going to ask that angels watch over you,!" he said. Laying one hand on the child's head, Santa closed his eyes and prayed. He asked that God touch little Sarah, and heal her body from this disease. He asked that angels minister to her,

watch and keep her. And when he finished praying, still with eyes closed, he started singing softly, "Silent Night, Holy Night, all is calm, all is bright." The family joined in, still holding hands, smiling at Sarah, and crying tears of hope, tears of joy for this moment, as Sarah beamed at them all. When the song ended, Santa sat on the side of the bed again and held Sarah's frail, small hands in his own. "Now, Sarah," he said authoritatively, "you have a job to do, and that is to concentrate on getting well. I want you to have fun playing with your friends this summer, and I expect to see you at my house at the Mall this time next year!" He knew it was risky proclaiming that, to this little girl who had terminal cancer, but he "had" to. He had to give her the greatest gift he could -- not dolls or games or toys -- but the gift of HOPE. "Yes, Santa!" Sarah exclaimed, her eyes bright. He leaned down and kissed her on the forehead and left the room. Out in the hall, the minute Santa's eyes met Rick's, a look passed between them and they wept unashamed. Sarah's mother and grandmother slipped out of the room quickly and rushed to Santa's side to thank him. "My only child is the same age as Sarah," he explained quietly. "This is the least I could do." They nodded with understanding and hugged him. One year later, Santa Mark was again back on the set in Dallas for his six-week, seasonal job which he so loves to do. Several weeks went by and then one day a child came up to sit on his lap. "Hi, Santa! Remember me?!" "Of course, I do," Santa proclaimed (as he always does), smiling down at her. After all, the secret to being a "good" Santa is to always make each child feel as if they are the "only" child in the world at that moment. "You came to see me in the hospital last year!" Santa's jaw dropped. Tears immediately sprang in his eyes, and he grabbed this little miracle and held her to his chest. "Sarah!" he exclaimed. He scarcely recognized her, for her hair was long and silky and her cheeks were rosy - much different from the little girl he had visited just a year before. He looked over and saw Sarah's mother and grandmother in the sidelines smiling and waving and wiping their eyes. That was the best Christmas ever for Santa Claus. He had witnessed and been blessed to be instrumental in bringing about this miracle of hope. This precious little child was healed. Cancer-free. Alive and well. He silently looked up to Heaven and humbly whispered, "Thank you, Father. “Tis a very, Merry Christmas!

When I was a young turkey, new to the coop, My big brother Mike took me out on the stoop, Then he sat me down, and he spoke real slow, And he told me there was something that I had to know; His look and his tone I will always remember, When he told me of the horrors of..... Black November; "Come about August, now listen to me, Each day you'll get six meals instead of just three, "And soon you'll be thick, where once you were thin, And you'll grow a big rubbery thing under your chin; "And then one morning, when you're warm in your bed, In'll burst the farmer's wife, and hack off your head; "Then she'll pluck out all your feathers so you're bald 'n pink, and scoop out all your insides and leave ya lyin' in the sink; "And then comes the worst part" he said not bluffing, "She'll spread your cheeks and pack your rear with stuffing". Well, the rest of his words were too grim to repeat, I sat on the stoop like a winged piece of meat, And decided on the spot that to avoid being cooked, I'd have to lay low and remain overlooked; I began a new diet of nuts and granola, High-roughage salads, juice and diet cola; and as they ate pastries, chocolates and crepes, I stayed in my room doing Jane Fonda tapes. I maintained my weight of two pounds and a half, and tried not to notice when the bigger birds laughed; But 'twas I who was laughing, under my breath, As they chomped and they chewed, ever closer to death; And sure enough when Black November rolled around, I was the last turkey left in the entire compound; So now I'm a pet in the farmer's wife's lap; I haven't a worry, so I eat and I nap; She held me today, while sewing and humming, And smiled at me and said "Christmas is coming..."

Enjoying Your Christmas Treasures? by Judy Woodward Bates, On Christmas Eve, a petite young woman struggled across the mall with two small children in tow; a third child protruded obviously from her expansive mid-section. Amid the blare of holiday music, giant mechanical figures and mounds of artificial snow, the two toddlers could be heard squealing with glee as they tugged at their mother's package-laden arms and guided her toward the long, winding line to Santa's throne. The mother smiled indulgently as she positioned her family at the end of the noisy, squirming train of youngsters and parents. She leaned heavily against the siderail and rested frequently as her little troop slowly inched up the ramp toward Santa's first beaming elf. In a little over an hour, the children had worn themselves almost as ragged as they had their poor mother. But she bravely persevered and beamed happily but wearily as she passed her two wee ones to the elf's waiting hands. She watched them being escorted onto the lap of a somewhat less than jolly Santa. Another elf waved a toy in the air and made nonsensical statements to the children as she snapped an instant photo. For what seemed like the hundredth time that evening, the mother opened her purse, extracted her wallet and paid an exorbitant price for a 5-by-7 color glossy of her darling children and their Christmas benefactor.
As he seated himself at the table in the breakfast room, the phone rang and his wife lifted the cordless phone from its resting place beside her chicken dinner box. She listened as the caller identified himself as one of the members of their nearby church; he was reminding her of the brief candlelight service they were having for Christmas Eve. She commented politely, then explained that her family had been terribly busy that day and it was really necessary that they stay at home and rest. She thanked the caller for his invitation and hung up. A short while later, the wife and husband were seated on the family room sofa watching the final minutes of the children's video. The doorbell rang and the husband rose and opened the door. A man and woman stood shivering at the door. The man explained to the husband that they were from a nearby shelter and that the severe weather had brought in greater numbers of people than they had anticipated; he and his wife were going around some of the better neighborhoods and trying to raise some last-minute funds to purchase some additional food and blankets. The husband explained that his business firm donated to several specific charities and that if the man or woman would come by his office in a few days and complete the proper forms, their organization would be considered for next year's contributions. He smiled indulgently at the couple, wished them luck on their endeavor, closed the door and returned to his family.
As the tired little family exited the sprawling shopping mall, they passed within inches of a shiny red bucket and a woman bundled tightly against the cold as she repeatedly rang the bell in her hand. The children begged their mother for just a penny or a nickel to drop in the pot, but she sternly stated that they had spent all they were going to spend for one evening.
The next morning, the family all rose early and the stacks of gifts were torn into with great enthusiasm. The husband circled the room with a camcorder as the children squealed with delight at all the things Santa had brought them. The mother threw her hands over her face as she mildly chastised her husband for attempting to film her in her I-just-got-out-of-bed appearance.
The group found their way to their sport utility vehicle and headed out into the bumper-to-bumper traffic in the direction of home. She spent half an hour stuck in traffic, another 20 minutes in the drivethrough line of a fast-food restaurant and then turned toward home afresh. The cellular phone in the center console began to ring and she picked it up, listened to her husband's concerned voice and assured him that she and the children would be home soon. She remembered to tell him she had bought supper, too. She ended the call and concentrated on the traffic once again.
The husband brought his wife a steaming cup of decaf and seated himself beside her as they watched their two youngsters enjoying their Christmas treasures. He thanked his wife for the numerous gifts she and the children had given him, and she in turn thanked him for all her presents. He hugged her gently and they both agreed that this had been their best Christmas ever.
She turned into the drive and pressed the automatic garage door opener on her visor. The door rose slowly in front of her as her husband entered the garage to assist her. Between them, they managed to get the food, the children and all the packages inside. Small talk ensued as the toddlers washed their hands and scurried to get their TV trays, tearing into the new cartoon video that had been purchased during their outing. The father insisted on operating the player himself and he started the DVD as he placed a Smiley Meal on the trays in front of both tots.

Where is Christ in your Christmas? I hope as you read this story that His absence was constantly in your thoughts. Does the way you've been celebrating Christmas point people to the One we're supposed to be honoring? The greatest way to pay homage to the Savior is to imitate His life. Remember those less fortunate, help those you can and make a commitment this year to be certain that everyone you come in contact with knows precisely Whose day Christmas is. When Wisdom Evolves For centuries, philosophers and poets have written about the wisdom that comes with age. In recent years science suggests that intergenerational programs may not only deepen wisdom in older adults but serve as a conduit to help young people acquire it. What if you and I accepted the notion that mentoring is one component of a program that involves other elements, such as life skills training and coaching? Could the supportive, healthful relationships formed between mentors and mentees provide immediate and long term benefits for both, reduce drug and alcohol use, improve graduation rates, promote healthier relationships and lifestyle choices, improve interpersonal skills and provide enhanced self-esteem and self-confidence? If all this were possible would you be willing to sign up as a mentor and pass your life-learned skills onto a young person There are mentoring programs all over the United States that are active and beneficial. Many have been around for many years and have proven records of success. I cannot possibly write about all of them, so I am going to give some brief insight into a well “oiled” program in Hickory Corners, Michigan. Supported by generous donors and fueled by the passion of a team of mentors, 2009 was the year that the Gilmore Garage Works after-school enrichment program began. Today well established and highly qualified mentors provide insight-filled instruction in automotive technology, giving students skills in welding, engine pulling, painting, suspension, and fabrication. A side effect of this program is that participants develop personal responsibility, consistent attendance, self-confidence, a sense of accomplishment, and the importance of personal presentation. This program is 100% free to the students and meets after school on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. It is open to any 9-12th grade student in Allegan, Barry, Calhoun, and Kalamazoo Counties. These mentees have the unique opportunity of hands on repair experiences on antique autos at the Gilmore Museum. In the past, students have restored a 1931 Willys engine and chassis, rebuilt Model A Ford engines, completed work on a number of motorcycles, and a 1909 Buick. They have learned to run a lathe, and operate a vertical mill. “I will forever treasure my three and a half years in the Garage Works program,” said recent Otsego graduate Jacob Taylor. “What seventeen year old kid could say he’s worked on some of the most prized classic cars of all time, let alone travel across the country in one?” Taylor was one of five Garage Works students and three adult mentors that participated in a 2400-mile “GREAT RACE” in a 1935 Packard. The team, one of only six comprised of high school students, finished 98th out of 148 original registrants and each automotive college bound member earned a $1400.00 scholarship. Mentoring at any level produces positive results. Great people provide important insight. There are many opportunities for us as
seasoned individuals to pass our skills on to younger people. I urge you to offer up your talents and become a mentor. You will find a joy in this that is beyond words or money. Education Director Fred Colgren said: “I don’t think there’s a stronger payoff than knowing you’ve made a difference in a kid’s life.” You can contact the Gilmore Car Museum at (269) 671-5089 or GilmoreCarMuseum.org. Uncle Ezra says: “Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me. I want people to know why I look this way. I’ve traveled a long way and most of the roads were not paved.”

The 5th Annual Lakeview Veterans Day Parade was held on Saturday, November 9, 2019 in the Lakeview neighborhood of New Orleans. The day was blessed with sunshine, beautiful blue skies and mild temperatures - perfect parade weather. It was a lovely day to honor those men and women who risked their lives for freedom and liberty around the world. This year, all Veterans of World War II were honored as Grand Marshals of the event. According to the US Department of Veterans Affairs, in 2019 only 389,292 of the 16 million Americans who served in WWII are still alive. We paid tribute to their sacrifices before the opportunity to do so was lost to us forever. Honorees also consisted of Veterans of Korea, Vietnam, Persian Gulf, Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, and others. Each Veteran proudly wore their Colors and lots of smiles. Vietnam Army Veterans Jim Hall and my husband, Charlie Lightfoot, were initially hesitant to put themselves in front of the public. They, like so many Vietnam Veterans, were treated abominably when they returned home from service in the 1970s. They will always remember being spit on, the names they were called and the things they were told. Thank God things are different today! At this event, they were applauded. People thanked them, welcomed them home and shook their hands. That’s what makes this event, and the hundreds of them like it throughout the country, so important. Unless we were there alongside them, we can never fully appreciate what our Veterans endured, what they witnessed and what they had to do. That is why I served as Parade Marshal this year. I dedicated my time and efforts to all Veterans, but most importantly to my dad, Charles Vincent (US Merchant Marine, WWII) and my husband, Charlie (Army, Vietnam). They are my personal heroes. In the Parade, many of our Veterans were driven by members of local car clubs in vehicles that included Model A’s, Corvettes, Thunderbirds, American tribute vehicles, the Memorial Camaro, Coast Guard boats, a boat/car and military vehicles of yesterday and today including a 1942 Dodge W-3 Weapons Carrier. A huge “Thank you” to Combel’s Customs Cruisers, the Jeep Club of New Orleans, the Horseless Carriage Club of New Orleans, the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association New Orleans Chapter, the police departments of Jefferson Parish, the City of Gretna and the City of Westwego, the Louisiana Army National Guard, Louisiana Air Force National Guard and Coast Guard and all the other organizations and persons who made the Parade possible. After the Parade the First Annual Vets Fest was held in the school yard of St. Dominic’s School. The National World War II Museum Victory Belles, who rode in the parade singing all the way, opened the Vets Fest with a beautiful version of our National Anthem. Then, Vince Vance and two members of his band, The Valiants, performed some great oldies from the ‘50’s

Many of our volunteers have served in the military themselves and/or have family members who have served. Being able to spend time with these Veterans was rewarding for them but, having someone listen to some of their stories and memories, made the day special to each Veteran there. Everyone who joined in the celebration of our Veterans has said that they can’t wait to come back to do it again next year. I hope you join us. Finding a good assistant for doing an out of town show can be an issue. I had two different ones lined up for Emerald Coast Cruizin Car Event in Panama City Beach… that then, couldn't get off work. Finally the last week I found an old friend to help me out from my hometown. A lot of work goes in to preparing for a car show. I always say its 90% prep and 10% execution getting a hot rod show ready for an event. The 10% is the fun, but even it can be a challenge. Doing a large car show is the act of keeping many ping pongs balls in the air at one time without letting any of them fall. Emerald Coast Cruizin is so big and so many fine details… it will make your brain hurt with ping pong balls, so much fun! I got up early on Wednesday morning, 4 AM, and headed out from Perdido Bay, FL to my shop on the MS Gulf Coast to grab the Hot Rod Show trailer. I had spent the previous Saturday getting the trailer ready and restocked. Once the trailer was hooked up I headed out for Panama City Beach, FL and Emerald Coast Cruizin. I made a mistake and went down HWY 77 off I-10 that had a lot of Construction going on…I did not return that way. I arrived at Aaron Bessant Park in PCB just after noon; I got the Hot Rod Show trailer in position and then started the hour and a half setup procedure. I was setup once again in the same spot, by the main stage. Once setup was complete I headed over to the condo to get checked in. The Origin is right across the street from Sharky's, a popular local watering hole. I get checked in and check out my view, the 7th floor overlooking the pool and the beach, it was the money shot. Since I use vacation days for the shows I do, I always appreciate a nice room. Thursday started off a little cool, but turned out to be a huge day at the show. Friday was good, but a train wreck weather wise, cloudy and cool with some light rain off and on. Saturday was frigging awesome, weather, cruisers and entertainment. Saturday was the largest day I've ever seen at Emerald Coast Cruizin with cars, cruisers and entertainment choices. The Rip Chords in the house!

On Friday of the event the Rip Chords played. I learned a lot about the group from the research I did on them. Like one of the founding members, was the son of the legendary actress Doris Day. Also on Friday Margo Anderson performed.
DECEMBER 2019
Saturday was the big day, the crowds were huge. Our celebrities on Celebrity Row stayed busy. Anson Williams (Potsie) and Donny Most (Ralph Malph) from the TV show Happy Days. Joe, Poppa and Amanda Martin from Iron Resurrection TV Show, Butch Patrick, Eddie Munster from the TV Show The Munsters.
The Guinness Book of World Record's Smallest Woman, Jyoti Amge was incredible. Good local bands performed on the main stage. Plus we had a two hour Pro Wrestling Show with names like The WWE's Barbarian, Bobby Eaton & Randy Rose of the
Midnight Express, The Raging Bull Manny Fernandez and Jimmy The Boogie Woogie Man Valiant along with the Ricky Morton School of Wrestling wrestlers. Or you could go over under the oaks and watch the Alabama VS LSU game on a 65 inch big screen. Joe and Amanda Martin restored a petal car we auctioned off for Hurricane Michael Storm Relief. The car was one of a kind. Bobby Parrish auctioned the petal car off at an amazing $5,000. The new season of Iron Resurrection begins Monday night January 20 on the Motor Trend Network, look for the auction of the petal car from PCB on the new season of shows. Our Mega 50/50 was over $10,000. Dinning for Dollars, we gave away a $1,000 and 13 - $500 drawings for cash from the stamped cards. New aerial photos of the show this year show how packed it was. Rakes and Lisa Parrish out did themselves on this show. Rakes said “After Hurricane Michael” wiped this show out last year I was determined to bring Emerald Coast Cruizin back stronger than ever! I think we did that!” I got the trailer packed up Saturday afternoon and ready to head out the next morning. A great meal, a nice quiet evening with an incredible view was the way I unwound. After a good night sleep I met my brother Ken and his wife Linda for the breakfast buffet at the local diner, then hit the road. When everything is over and you get back on the road heading

home, you've got time to dissect and analyze a show. I can tell you this…it was a darn good show in every way. If you went to Emerald Coast Cruizin and you didn't have a blast…you better check your company? By Candy Cocktail The Tampa Tattoo Arts Convention was once again located in Tampa, featuring talented artists form locally and outside of Florida, performers, celebrity appearances, pinups and no shortage of creative tattoos. And my favorite part, the pinup contest. The Incredible retro bombshells drove the crowd crazy and there was even a celebrity appearance by Orange County Choppers Star, Paul Teutel Sr. and his bikes. Hosted by Miss Pinup Miami with Villain Arts Tattoo Convention, (@villainarts on Instagram) the Tampa Tattoo Convention was held October 18-20, 2019 at the Tampa Convention Center. Among the talented artists and kitschy events taking place, the annual pinup contest to crown Miss Tampa Pinup 2019 was held Saturday October 19, 2019. Once again hosted and organized by Miss Viva East 2018 & South Florida’s Latin Sunshine, Miss Pinup Miami. I was honored to again be part of the contest as one of the three ladies judging the beautiful, vintage-loving gals that competed in the contest. While yours truly was representing Gulf Coast MotorSports Magazine as a judge in the pinup contest, I was also judging the pinup contest alongside two lovely ladies.
Joining us as judges was last year’s winner, part of the Florida Luscious Ladies Chapter and Miss Tampa Pinup 2018, scarlet haired beauty Miss Vivian Valor (@missvivianvalor on Instagram). Miss Pinup Miami has the 411 on all the pinup happenings in Florida & many other places. Check out @pinnedsouthflorida, @pinupsatthezoo and her website https:// www.misspinupmiami.com/ for upcoming contests and events. While we had an amazing group of ladies that came to the convention to participate, we had the tough job of narrowing down the nearly 20 participants. The contest not only featured prizes and crowns for the top 3 contestants, but it also had a prize for the crowd favorite. All the gals were looking lovely!
Joining me as a contest judge was my friend Kayla Lynne AKA the Head Llama Mama and creator of the new eyelash brand, Pink Llama Lashes. We met six years ago when we both competed in a pinup contest together. This year we were attending the Tattoo Convention as judges and her fabulous new line of lashes were part of the incredible pinup winner prize pack! Her website https:// squareup.com/store/pink-llama-lashes features her handcrafted strip 3D silk and mink lashes in a variety of designs and looks.

Miss Sparkle Shan was not just at the convention to compete in the pinup contest, but this Army Veteran was there to help spread awareness for one of my favorite organizations, Pinups for Pitbulls. The brunette ambassador and volunteer is part of Pinned Miami and the Pinups for Pitbulls Team, bringing desperately needed awareness and education to fight breed specific legislation. These dolls are not just beautiful outside, but inside as well, spending their time to help save man’s (and pinup girls’) best friends. These glamorous Pitbull advocates are actively working to stop breed discrimination. The 501(c)3 Non Profit organization saves over 1000 dogs annually via courtesy posts. The organization sells Pitbull goodies and adorable calendars featuring pinups with Pitbulls among its merchandise. With a stop at their booth you could make a donation or purchase a calendar, accessory or wearable swag. All donations and purchases of their merchandise fund them each year. Visit @pinupsforpitbullsinc on Instagram or https:// shop.pinupsforpitbulls.org/ to get your Pitbull saving products.
Villain Arts is a leader in tattoo conventions and related events as well as a source for quality digital and screen printing needs. The convention showcases top tier tattoo artists from around the world, as well as contests, awards, vendors, professional body piercers, aerial performances, burlesque show stoppers and side show style performances. For more information on upcoming shows, vendor info or to work at a show, visit www.villainarts.com. Villain Arts is currently making its way around America with several weekend tattoo shows coming soon. Villain Arts is starting the new year with upcoming shows in Minneapolis January 10-12 and Philadelphia January 17-19.
The final three beauties who won the Contest for Miss Tampa Pinup at this year's Tampa Tattoo Arts Convention: Miss Tampa Pinup 2019: Mayzie Mac, First Runner Up: Babydoll Randazzo, Second Runner Up: Fawna Fox, Crowd Favorite: Shay Shenanigans. Mayzie Mac is also a newlywed to her photographer husband. Together they recently formed Clearwater Pinup Photography for classic, kitschy photoshoots. November 10, 2019 By: ChandaElaine
There's no denying I am a lucky, lucky girl. From spending my days at a keyboard pounding out stories and polishing up books for publication to hearing the stories about the amazing cars which crowd downtown for Texoma Cars & Coffee, life really couldn't get much better. Saturday was no exception. Though the winter wind had a crisp snap which stung my cheeks, it could not dampen the joy of seeing two of my personal favorites up close and personal: a "Bullet Nose" Studebaker and a Triumph. Studebakers have a special place in my heart. Until the plant's closure in 1963, Studebaker's hometown was South Bend, Indiana. Having spent the 1970's learning to walk, talk, and properly nap in the back of the Studebakers which still tore down the country roads around Peru, Indiana, these cars hit every button programmed in my being for comfort, safety, and a great time. When the plant closed, prices of Studebakers plummeted. While collectors swooped in to rake up the spoils, so did farmers, young families, and high schoolers looking for their first ride. By the time I came around, there were Studebakers on the road, in the field behind the house, and it seemed like everyone from my babysitter to the paediatrician drove one.
Did you know you could fix the muffler with a couple of steel Coke cans, a wire hanger, and duct tape? Watching my father and one of our neighbours do this in the driveway with three feet of snow on the ground is one of my more interesting childhood memories. When I was five, I learned to drive one (Like I said, my early childhood was interesting…and involved and equal mix of bored farm kids as babysitters, gravel roads, and heavy machinery.) Not long after that, I would watch Star Wars at the drive-in through the giant back glass (I think I was supposed to be watching Lady and the Tramp through the front window with my younger brother, but animated dogs or Han Solo…Which would you choose?) Thankfully, locals weren't the only ones who took advantage of the prices. Collectors bought like-new Studebakers by the thousands. From the Studebaker Drivers Club to the Avanti Owners Associate, there are 15,000+ members of Studebaker clubs across the United States. And who could blame them? From setting the bar in styling and being leaps ahead in engineering, fuel economy, and speed, Studebakers were ahead of their time. They entered the market with an electric car in 1902. Yep, that thing we are working toward today was introduced by Studebaker over a 119 years ago. (They would also invent and introduce Hill Holder, which keeps a
26
DECEMBER 2019
manual transmission from letting the car roll backward on a hill by keeping the clutch down while hitting the gas. Subaru revived this technology and introduced it as a new feature on their cars in 1980 – under the same Hill Holder name.) In 1904, they introduced the first, two-cylinder, gasoline touring car. By 1913, Studebaker was the third largest producer of cars in the United States, with production moving from Detroit to South Bend in 1920. Pierce-Arrow Motor Company was purchased by Studebaker in 1928 and integrated into Studebaker, allowing them to introduce the fastback Land Cruiser in 1934. World War II didn't slow Studebaker down. As part of the war effort, they manufactured trucks for the military, plane engines, and the Weasel, a tracked personnel and cargo carrier which also came in an amphibious model. Post-war, Studebaker was first to have a completely new design on the market with the 1947 model year with the slogan, "First by far with a postwar car." The "Bullet Nose" (like the one pictured here) was introduced in 1950 for a bargain price of $1400-2300 and beat the Big Three in offering a V8 and automatic transmission in a true economy-priced car. In comparison, Ford would not have a V8 in an economy car until 1954, and Chevy would not manage it until 1955. If that wasn't enough, the V8 Studebaker Commander won Best In Class in the 1951 Mobilgas Economy Run with an average 28 mpg! (For those interested, the original introduction ad which first aired in 1950 can be found on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SxPeIhErZgA&feature=youtu.be
With Packard's purchase of Studebaker in 1954, competition between the car companies ramped-up leaving the new Studebaker struggling to keep up with the Big Three. To focus the offerings and eliminate costs, Packards were discontinued in 1958 with the remaining years of the company solely dedicated to the production of Studebakers and introducing the Hawks, Conestoga wagon, and reviving the President's line. In 1957, they would introduce the economy-line Scotsman to meet consumer's demands for new compact car models and follow with the Lark in 1958. However, within a few short years, the South Bend plant would close. By 1966, Studebaker was no more. Though this would signal the end of new Studebaker's in the showrooms, but only the beginning of seeing Studebaker's scattered across the countryside as the daily vehicle, handed-down from parents to teenagers as the "take that weird kid from the farm next door to school with you" car. As part of the landscape of my childhood they are irreplaceable, whether as that first, sweet taste of freedom or of as a reminder of just how sweet that freedom was.

December 10th TO: ALL EMPLOYEES... Vegetarians -- I've had it with you people!! We're going to hold this party at Luigi's Open Pit whether you like it or not, you can just sit at the table farthest from the "grill of death," as you put it, and you'll get salad bar only, including hydroponic tomatoes. But, you know, tomatoes have feelings, too. They scream when you slice them. I've heard them scream. I'm hearing them right now... Ha! I hope you all have a rotten holiday! Drive drunk and die, you hear me? The Bitch from Hell www.GulfCoastMotorSports.com
