Cruizin’ in the passin’ lane By: Jimbo

I stepped out of the shower, I heard someone in my kitchen… Knowing that my wife was out, I grabbed my old rifle that my grandfather left mewhich no longer works-and crept down the hall, forgetting the fact that I was in my birthday suit. I came around the corner with my gun raised, only to find my wife un-loading the dishwasher. “what are you doing?” she asked. “I thought I heard an intruder. I came to scare him.” Scanning the contours of my doughy, naked body, she mumbled, “You didn’t need the gun.” I turned and headed back to the bathroom to finish up, I took a look in the mirror and like most of us baby boomers wondered where the time went and who was that looking back at me. My dad used to say “there is a much younger guy inside this ol’ guy lookin’ at you.” He’s right you know, it’s easier to look at things and make suggestions, pass on ideas or offer opinions, wanted or not, than it is to put forth the time and energy into making that “thing” happen. The next couple of months the big shows on the Mississippi and Florida Gulf Coast will draw some of the Silent Generation out of their dens and a huge number of ageing boomers in their assortment of kool cars/trucks, more high-rise car bodies rolling on thin rubber tires driven by emerging generation X’ers who are fixing up the vehicles we left for them, and here come the tech savvy Millennials or Generation Ys driving some the fastest hot wheels on the road. As you join in all these festivities remember the guy in the mirror looking back at you.. he’s saying enjoy yourself, do it because it’s what you are… not what you want to be. Do you know why baby diapers are called Luvs & Huggies while old people diapers are called Depends? Cause if a baby crap's in their pants, you are still gonna Luv'em & Hug'em. If an old person crap's in their pants, will they still be Luv'ed or Hugged? That "Depends" on if you're in the …. Will or not.

"Lord, I have a problem." “What is it, Eve?” “I know that you created me and provided this beautiful garden and all of these wonderful animals, especially that hilarious snake, but I'm just not happy.” “And why is that Eve?” “Lord, I'm lonely, and I'm sick to death of apples.” “Well, Eve, in that case I have a solution. I shall create a man for you.” “Man? What is that Lord?” “A flawed creature with many bad traits. He'll lie, cheat and be vain. All in all he'll give you a hard time, but he'll be bigger and faster and will love to hunt, fish and bring you good things to eat. I'll create him in such a way that he will satisfy your physical needs... He will be witless and will revel in childish things like playing cards and knocking a ball around. He won't be as smart as you, so he will also need your advice to think properly.” “Sounds great,” says Eve, with ironically raised eyebrows,” but what's the catch?” “Well,..... you can have him on one condition.” “And what's that Lord? “ “Well, since he'll be proud, arrogant and self-admiring, you'll have to let him believe that I made him first. And it will have to be our little secret ..... you know, woman to woman.” ------------------------------------------------------------Hmmmm, maybe???

Jimbo, My name is Trevor and I’ve been keeping records on my roosters here on my farm, and any rooster that didn't perform went into the soup pot and was replaced. That took an awful lot of my time so I bought a set of tiny bells and attached them to the roosters. Each bell had a different tone so I could tell from a distance, which rooster was performing. Now I could sit on the porch and fill out an efficiency report simply by listening to the bells. My favorite rooster was Eric, and a very fine specimen he was too, but on this particular morning I noticed Eric's bell hadn't rung at all! I went to investigate. The other roosters were chasing pullets, bells-aringing. The pullets, hearing the roosters coming, would run for cover but to my amazement, Eric had his bell in his beak, so it couldn't ring. He'd sneak up on a pullet, do his job and walk on to the next one. I was so proud of Eric, I entered him into the Fraser Valley Exhibition and Eric became an overnight sensation among the judges. The Result? The judges not only awarded Eric the No Bell Piece Prize but they also awarded him the Pullet surprise as well. Clearly Eric was a politician in the making: Who else but a politician could figure out how to win two of the most highly coveted awards on our planet by being the best at sneaking up on the populace and screwing them when they weren't paying attention. Do you know a Politician called Eric? Trevor@ Jimbo, In Pharmacology, all drugs have two names, a trade name and a generic name. For example, the trade name for Tylenol has a generic name of Acetaminophen. Aleve is also called Naproxen. Amoxil is also called Amoxicillin and Advil is also called Ibuprofen. The FDA has been looking for a generic name for Viagra. After careful consideration by a team of government experts, it is recently announced that it has settled on the name of Mycoxafloppin. Also considered were Mycoxafailin, Mydixadrupin, Mydixarizin, Dixafix, Ibepokin and of course, Mydixadryll.

We decided to come to the MS Gulf Coast for a vacation and were taking in the sights. When the Busted Wrench Garage came up as a place to see a collection of cars and motorcycles, our boys said let’s go there.” said Mrs. Luadzers.

I don't have a restaurant to write about this month. Sharon sand I went on a trip of 6 day and 4 states. For the second time we went on the longest yard sale. On the south end it starts at Gadsden, AL on Hwy 127 and run up into Michigan. This time we worked our way up to just outside of Cincinnati, OH and came south on Hwy 127. We left on Tuesday and made it to Bowling Green, KY. With a stop in Cullman, Al at a architecture salvage center. They had some great things out of old house and building form the 1800's things you won't find anymore. On Wednesday we stopped and went through Mammoth Caves, it would take 4 days to take all of the tours that are open. There are 400 miles of marked trails but not all are open to the public. That night we were outside of Cincinnati and started the next day on the yard sale coming south. Thursday we made it to Frankfort, KY if you look at a map that isn't very far. Friday we headed south again by a side trip to Shakertown outside of Harrodsburg and then back to Hwy127 by a side road. Which turned out to be great. We came across a distillery that was being torn down. It was built in the 1890's and was last used in the late 50's. I had to stop and get some of the wood from it. I was able to buy some of the maple 2x12x16 boards real cheap. Then on down the road, we got to Crossville, TN that night and had to go across the mountain to McMinnville get a motel room. The road to McMinnville would make a good carnival ride when you drive it in the dark and I mean it was dark. Just ask Sharon about that one. Saturday we went on down to Chattanooga stopping at some places where we went to on the last trip. Then on Sunday we worked on down the Alabama route and picked up a few more thing for other people. We had a trailer full of nice items and a few things that are becoming scarce as time goes by. If you every make this trip make sure your vehicle is in good shape and brakes are new. We didn't have any trouble but the trip is rough on brakes. We saw a lot of old cars for sale have a few pictures. Till next time J. R.

Aries (March 21 - April 19) Tuesday is said to be a lucky day for Aries. Adventurous, energetic, courageous, and confident are the strengths of Aries. Weaknesses include being self-centered, short-tempered, impulsive, and impatient. Aries are known to be friendly and outgoing people. You would notice an Aries in a room full of people since they would be the ones talking and introducing themselves. Aries stand up for what they believe in. You will find them rooting for the under dog or defending and assisting those with weaker personality traits. Aries are very trusting and this can make them vulnerable as they believe and trust so easily that they often wear their hearts on their sleeves. Though an Aries can be pushed to have a temper, it normally won't last long. Seldom will you come across an Aries that holds a grudge. Forgive and forget is a motto most Aries live by. Taurus (April 20 - May 20) Fridays are said to be lucky days for Taurus people. Strengths of Taurus include being compassionate, dependable, loyal, reliable, and also being strong both physically and emotionally. Stubbornness, aggressiveness, sensitivity and a dislike when faced with change are all weaknesses associated with a Taurus. The Bull symbolizes strong and silent, and this is exactly how a Taurus is said to be. Until you really get to know a Taurus you will probably not see his or her true self. Taurus are very stubborn individuals and once their minds are made up, swaying them even a little is next to impossible. If you do not try to push, Taurus folks will come across as being laid back and reserved. Take heed though because if you anger a Taurus, it is likely that you might find a violent temper. However, Taurus tempers generally will not flare until they are pushed. Taurus make wonderful friends, and whenever you need them they will certainly be some of the first ones there. Taurus know exactly how to brighten the day of friends in need. Don't count on a Taurus ever calling on you to return the favor. They are very in tune with their emotions and rarely display them. Taurus are loyal and will stand beside a friend until the bitter end. Gemini (May 21 - June 20) Wednesdays are said to be lucky days for Gemini. Jovial, good communication skills, inquisitiveness and flexibility are all strengths of the Gemini. Weaknesses of the Gemini include selfishness, restlessness, confusing personalities and difficulty being on time. The Twins, which is the symbol of the Gemini, is said to be the child of the Zodiac. Gemini will have multiple personalities. Gemini change their minds as often as they change their underwear. Boredom quickly makes a Gemini turn and look for other avenues of excitement and entertainment. Gemini have little to no patience. They do not flourish in environments where indecisive people are present. Gemini can talk themselves in and out of a situation all in the same breath. They do not stay in one place too long. In most disagreements, Gemini will come out the victor with an extraordinary ability to use words in their favor. Falling

in love with a Gemini can be exciting and dangerous. With their dual personalities Gemini keep their love life spicy. In matters of the heart, hang on tight because you are in for an ever-changing ride. Don't hold them to a time schedule as something can catch their eye and cause them to be late in a heartbeat. Cancer (June 21 - July 22) Mondays are said to be lucky days for Cancer. Cancer strengths are adaptability, loyalty, genuine attachment to a family, and empathy. Weaknesses of Cancer include moodiness, sensitivity, and emotional outbursts and indecisiveness. People assigned the sign of Cancer are genuinely moody and have ever changing emotions. One minute they may be laughing and having a good time and the next minute you may find them mad at the world. No one single emotion or personality can label a Cancer. Cancer will often masquerade their emotions with humor. Laughing is a common disguise used by Cancer to hide signs of depression. Cancer will set their aspirations high. Constant struggles for success and achievement lay beneath the exterior shell of Cancer. Yelling or harshly snapping at individuals born under Cancer can cause their hearts to hurt. They will either shed tears openly or just completely shut down when hurt. When a Cancer is hurt you will not be able to break through the exterior shell. Time is the only thing that can heal the heart of a Cancer. Leo (July 23 - Aug 22) Sundays are said to be lucky days for a Leo. Strengths of a Leo include kindness, big-heartedness, an energetic nature, optimism, honesty and loyalty. The weaknesses of a Leo are prone to jealousy, possessiveness, egotism or a more dominating personality. A Leo is similar to his sign the Lion, as he believes he is the leader of all. Putting a Leo in his or her place will certainly put a knife in his or her big but fragile heart. Leos dislike being bored and enjoy being around many people as they are at home playing the role of a leader. Leos can quickly revert to becoming lazy if they are not careful. When Leos love, they love with all their hearts, and they take what they believe is theirs. They enjoy dishing out tons of advice and they expect that you should heed their advice as truth. A Leo can be hurt deeply if you question their authority. The best way to tame the proud lion is to feed into their opinion of themselves. You can easily have the roaring lion eating out of the palm of your hand with kind words and praise. A Leo will tell it like it is - always. They have difficulty holding their tongues whether they are right or not. Leos will mean what they say and say what they mean. They speak their opinion whether you want to hear it or not so be prepared. Leo prospers most when in a loving relationship. You will rarely find a Leo alone. Leos automatically take on the leading role in a relationship even though they may complain now and again about having too much responsibility. They really do not feel that way they just growl now and again. www.GulfCoastMotorSports.com

Virgo (Aug 23 - Sept 22) Wednesdays are said to be lucky days for Virgo. Strengths of Virgo are perfectionist, realistic, practical, dependable, sincere and patient. Weaknesses of Virgo include being way too critical, restless, and they lack demonstrativeness and tend to push themselves too much. Virgo also tend to be quiet and family oriented people. Though you may notice a Virgo quietly off to the side, you can bet that he or she is simply taking in the details of every little thing. Virgos do not often put themselves in crowded situations, as they prefer to socialize one on one. Virgos are perfectionists meaning everything has its place. Virgos live in reality and seldom daydream. They take life for what it is and don't set themselves up for disappointment. Virgos are workaholics and even in their work they expect and demand perfection from themselves. From their clothes to their homes, everything must be perfect. Much time is spent worrying about whether things are correct. Virgos are tidy and neat freaks. Dirt and sloppiness can cause a Virgo to offer a harsh tongue-lashing. A Virgo can also be a wonderful friend. Knowing what to say and when to say it is a trait most Virgos possess. A Virgo will show love by dedication and subtlety. While a Virgo may not climb the local water tower and spell out I Love You in bright green letters, you will know you are loved by the little things they do and say. Libra (Sept 23 - Oct 22) Fridays are said to be lucky days for Libra. The strengths of a Libra are patience, balance, gregarious, loving, affectionate, cheerful, energetic and a social nature. Weaknesses of the Libra include indecisiveness, carelessness, prone to indulgence, and being overly emotional and sensitive. The Libra is the seventh sign of the Zodiac. You will find a Libra to be extremely nice and polite. Libras love being around people and often serve as mediators between quarreling parties. A Libra will most always appear cheerful. Libras are very independent individuals and do not take orders well. Libras are intelligent and excellent listeners. They can also be naïve and restless. Libras are often as confused as the people surrounding them by their wishy-washy traits. A Libra can bring laughter to the dreariest of circumstances. They are happiest when the people surrounding them are happy as well. They do not like for friends to be sad or upset. Libras take their time weighing pros and cons of a decision before committing one way or the other. Scorpio (Oct 23 - Nov 21) Tuesdays are said to be lucky days for Scorpio. Strengths of the Scorpio include loyalty, trustworthiness, passionate, charismatic, mystifying, caring and patience. Weaknesses of Scorpio are stubbornness, becoming jealous easily, and being overly sensitive and egotistical. Scorpios have the ability to appear as though they are staring through people. Their gaze seems to penetrate the outer body and see directly into the soul. Scorpios have large egos and can stand on their own. Once they get something in their heads they can't rest until they finish the task. Scorpios rarely let their emotions surface. They possess a sense of knowing when they are right and when they are wrong. Rarely will you notice a Scorpio playing bashful or shy. If you want an honest opinion about anything ask a Scorpio. Brutal honesty is a feature they cannot help but offer. Scorpios love with their complete hearts, but they have no tolerance for unfaithfulness. Questioning their own worth causes Scorpios to be very jealous and overly possessive especially in matters of the heart. They will stand beside the ones they live come what may, through thick and thin. You could not ask for a more loyal friend. Sagittarius (Nov 22 - Dec 21) Thursdays are said to be lucky days for Sagittarius. Strengths of the Sagittarius include honesty, forthrightness, lightheartedness, intellectualism, and possession of excellent communication skills. Weaknesses of the Sagittarius are sharp tongue, prone to change, restlessness and a flirtatious nature. Sagittarius have a way with words like no other. They try to come across nice and friendly but normally end up hurting the feelings of others or just downright annoying others.

They are not at all gifted with a talent for dishing out compliments. Most often compliments will come out more like insults and any attempts to correct misunderstandings are futile. Sagittarius are animal lovers and are most always the ones apt to take in homeless and stray animals that no one else would think about touching. They will nurture these outcasts back to health and prove they can be wonderful pets. Sagittarius are the first ones to try to cheer up friends when they are down. Though they may not be the greatest at this, nonetheless they will try. You may find yourself laughing whether you want to or not in their presence. Decisions of the heart take Sagittarius some time to make. They fall in love easily, but do not love lightly. A long internal struggle goes on inside the head of a Sagittarius before a decision related to commitment can be arrived at. Capricorn (Dec 22 - Jan 19) Saturdays are said to be lucky days for Capricorn. Strengths of the Capricorn include hardworking, responsible, reliable, loyal, sincere and strong will power. Weaknesses of the Capricorn are introvert, slightly obstinate, short tempered and difficulty accepting authority. A Capricorn has the ability to fit in and adjust to surroundings. They are the type that could make you believe the sky is purple if they wanted to. Capricorns are very calm individuals. They do not become agitated easily. Capricorns are not ones to reach for stardom but they know how to deal with it if it is thrust their way. They prefer to enjoy blending in with groups around them. Capricorns are similar to chameleons and are similarly harmless. Capricorns like being leaders in the workplace and they do not take orders from others well at all. You may find a Capricorn unleashing a sharp tongue lashing if you try to take control of a project. In matters of the heart, Capricorns are very romantic. Dinners by candlelight and flowers for no reason are qualities you can expect from a Capricorn. Capricorns like to be wanted and needed. Aquarius (Jan 20 - Feb 18) Saturdays are said to be lucky days for Aquarius. Strengths of Aquarius include being friendly, affable, intelligent, kind, compassionate and practical. Weaknesses of the Aquarius are being unpredictable, adamant, dislike towards making commitments and hating adhering to conventions. Aquarius never meet anyone they don't at first glance consider a friend. Friend is a term they use very loosely. Aquarius are always kind and caring and enjoy getting to know new people. Unless you give them reason to dislike you, they like everyone. Aquarius are generally soft spoken but can demonstrate the ability to change up now and again. They love things that are new and enjoy experimenting with new ideas and concepts. Creativity flows through the veins of individuals with the Aquarius sign. Aquarius tend to have a large number of friends though normally not many close or best buddies. They are friendly and nice and enjoy being around other people. Their flighty and every changing personality make getting close with an Aquarius next to impossible. One minute you may be an Aquarius' best friend and the next just someone who is in the way. Pisces (Feb 19 - March 20) Thursdays are said to be lucky days for Pisces. Strengths of the Pisces include being intuitive, empathetic, uninterested in material things and having a sharp memory. Weaknesses of the Pisces include being emotional or sensitive, and prone to wistfulness, mood swings and inflexibility. Greed in not a quality Pisces possess. They are not materialistic people. Pisces are well aware of how the world works but they also know their place. Pisces either run with the flow of the people around them or they run against it. They are either one extreme or the other there is no in between. Pisces are calm and cool and rarely lose their tempers. Pisces can charm your socks off without blinking an eye. In the event of troubling situations, Pisces have the ability to remain calm and rational. They think through situations rather than through reacting impulsively. Pisces are great lovers of music and art. You may find a Pisces in an orchestra or crafting a new picture for an art gallery. Pisces try to help everyone around them. They dislike

Road trip time! Worked a 9 hour day on Wednesday, got home from work and got the Hot Rod Show trailer ready to head out to Hiawassee, Georgia, the site of the 5th Annual Georgia Mountain Moonshine Cruiz-in. We left Gulfport at 9 pm and drove all night and reached Hiawassee a little before 9 am Eastern Time. I’ll tell you, the last 10 miles or so through the mountains I was so sleepy… I had to slap myself to stay awake. Once at the show we got the Hot Rod Show trailer into position. After a few setup details were complete, we headed for the motel and a nap. Our motel had a view between two mountains overlooking a beautiful lake called Lake Chatuge. After about four hours of sleep, it was off to the Kickoff Party where we enjoyed good Bar B Q and good fellowship. While we were sleeping, there was a police escorted 60 mile cruise through the mountains for the registered cars. Friday was the start of the car show and the cars came rolling in. The weather was overcast with a few light showers that kept everything cooled off, but did effect the car count. The guys from the Speed Channel TV show “Are U Faster than a Redneck” were there with three of their cars. They set up a booth, signed photos, took photos with fans, kissed babies and just had fun. There were over 100 vendors, from automotive to arts and crafts. There were wood cutting and sawing demonstrations and food booths. There was a vendor village set up down in a holler complete with rustic buildings where you could rent space… a truly beautiful setting. The folks really turn out to see the cars and the show. Over 5,000 spectators came through the gates in the two days. Friday afternoon after the show we all met downtown for a parade back to the hotel next door to the car show site and a party with live music. Now Hiawassee shut everything down for this parade, spectators lined the parade route and once again there was a police escort for the parade, shutting down all the side streets… pretty amazing this day and time. Saturday more cars came rolling in and so did the chance of rain. A couple of times the rain came down heavy then 20 minutes later the sun would be back out…typical weather patterns in the mountains this time of the year. If you’ve ever been to the Smokie Mountains, Hiawassee is just like it. The beauty and the mountains without all the tourist traps, is a quiet tranquil place. We gave out a lot of door prizes both days. The Mega 50/50 pots were over $1,000 Friday and over $1,500 on Saturday. Saturday afternoon at 4 pm we starting giving away prizes and money. Sponsor plaques were handed out and two rounds of drawing roll-up checks if your car registration number was called out. They cashed the checks on the spot for you too. The show was produced by Flip Flop Promotions, the family that also does Emerald Coast Cruis-In in Panama City Beach, FL in November.

Rakes Parrish is the promoter and he always puts on a great show. Saturday night was another party and live band, but we were exhausted and knew we had an early start home so we ducked into a local Rib joint and had the Bar B Q sampler feast for two. My brother Ken and his wife Linda also got the sampler. We both took doggie bags outa there. Sunday morning we headed home, another 11 hour trip that took only 10 hours because we picked up an hour coming back to the Central Time zone, I think? That long drive home gave my wife Scotty and I time to reflect on what a great car show The Georgia Mountain Moonshine CruizIn truly was and now we can’t wait for Emerald Coast Cruiz-In in Panama City Beach. It took us two days to recover from the trip, it was action packed from start to finish…but hey…it was fun! Get your Hot Rod out of the garage, put the hammer down for a long road trip and enjoy the 17 FOREVER…Hot Rod state of mind! Till next month……. Terry terrymason@aol.com Facebook:

Here is a little special something written by my sweetie, John Knight. He has been wanting to attend the KKOA Leadsled Spectacular in Salina, Kansas since he was a kid. Now three decades later, he was able to fulfill his dream. ~Neecy

-Thirty years later Do you remember being stuck in those boring classes in high school wishing you were out working on that imaginary custom sled, cruising in your own chopped, sectioned, frenched sweet custom. Rollin low and slow through the neighborhood. Well, that was me back in the early days with a custom rodder magazine. I would put them in between the pages of my text books, daydreaming about my own custom and going to the Leadsled Spectacular. That show was and is where all of the very best, full blown customs from all around the country would be. The other day, as I talked to my girl Neecy about a custom touch I felt she needed on her chopped ’50 coupe, I pulled out my thirty year old issue of “Custom Rodder.” It opened to an article about the first Leadsled Spectacular show. As I read the story again, I thought to myself…"that’s it, we're going to Salina, Kansas!” After thirty years I was going to attend the greatest custom show ever! As we rolled through the Texas hill country, I would get a tap on the shoulder and a look from Neecy like...slow it down! “I can’t help it!” I tell her its all the Suburbans fault because the closer we got to Salina, the faster it would go! As soon as we exited the interstate in Salina, it was like we had arrived into Coolsville! Sleds, hotrods and customs everywhere. At the gas stations, burger joints and even Walgreens. Next, we cruised over to the host hotel. You could tell the guys and gals of the K.K.O.A (Kustom Kemps of America) really knew what they where doing. The show itinerary was printed for the participants and the registration line was running very smoothly. Everyone was super nice. The first event we attended Thursday was a “crank it up” event to open

the weekend. It was held at Bright Built hot rod shop. What a place! From the large and well equipped body shop, to the biggest carpeted, air conditioned assembly room I’ve ever seen. There was about twenty p r o j e c t s going on in different stages of assembly. What a first class act! I almost asked for an application. The next event was also on Thursday evening with a cruise from Oakdale park through downtown Salina, and back to the park. The park was the center of the whole weekends events. Friday morning, we woke up bright and early, had breakfast and headed out to the show. Where to begin? So much to see from the swap meet area, to a demonstration of a late ’60’s Ford pickup being sectioned and chopped, to a field full of chopped and channelled Mercs. Customs and hot rods as far as the eye could see in every direction. There were Tbuckets and bad ass gassers, a custom ’53 Chevy owned by Voodoo Larry and Gene Winfield’s custom Ford Econoline pickup. For such a big park, there wasn’t an empty spot available. There was over 1600 pre-registered vehicles. Now let’s talk about the legendary car builders. If you attend some shows you may see one or two if you are lucky, but here, wow! Let me drop a few names, Darrell Starbird, Bo Huff, Gene Winfield....Can I go on?.......... Voodoo Larry, Allen Gambino, Brad Masterson and even Bill Hines. Mr. Hines is over 90 years old and was there chopping a top on a ‘50s Dodge Coronet. Yes, he is still kicking ass after all of these years! After the show on Friday night, Calvin’s Customs hosted an open house and block party in downtown Salina. The party was over three blocks long and featured live music and drinks. The taildraggers were out in force at this one. No one wanted to end the memorable day yet and so the party continued on into the night. After we couldn’t go anymore, we reluctantly took our tired bodies to the burban and went back to our hotel looking forward to more adventures the next day. ~John F. Knight*

Story by: Loren Denk Photos by: Brittanie Sarker Ever since my big brother first parked his brand new black ’98 Cobra with side pipes in the driveway, I wanted a Camaro. I actually wanted one before then, but being in the Cobra as he got left behind by a green LT1 Trans Am on Westheimer in Houston one night really sealed the deal. Or maybe it was the time we topped out and the white LS1 Camaro he was racing on the way to Lubbock kept pulling away from us. Either way, I’ve always wanted to have a fast Camaro. Annabelle, my pewter 2000 V6 5 speed Camaro, would never quite live up to the task. It was my junior year of college, when I picked up Annabelle in Dallas, TX., she had 75k showing on the odometer,... I knew the V6 wasn’t going to be enough, but it was a start and a friend of mine, at school had convinced me that a 383 LS1 was in the future for the Camaro. From the moment I parked the car at my apartment, I knew this would be the destiny of the car once I graduated and saved enough money for the swap. A couple years after college, I picked up a white 2002 Z28 with just under 100k miles. I had little to no automotive mechanic skills, aside from tune-ups, but Sid (my roommate at the time) is very automotively inclined and encouraged me to plan the work with his aid. We decided that on Saturday, September 18, 2010, we were going to begin the swap between Annabelle and the donor Camaro. We had prepared for the swap, by running wires, pulling torque specs, accumulating internet guidance, and borrowing a cherry picker. The plan was to complete the interior swap by end of day Saturday, and get the motor from Annabelle into the white one by end of Sunday. This was going to take place at the Arbor Station apartment garages, in Long Beach, MS. Sid said he would buy the V6 swapped from the white Camaro for $1000, (sort of payment for helping me with my swap.) On that Saturday morning, the fate of the cars changed with one simple mistake… “Hey Sid, where’s the steering wheel lock key?” Soooooo… after spending half the day finding a shop that would remove the locks, safely, we had to regroup. Time for a team meeting…. The whole plan changed and we threw all our planning out the window. Sid was still getting a V6 Camaro for a steal, as payment for his invaluable guidance, but I was keeping the white Camaro and we were still pulling the motor on the ’02 Z28 for a build. Why?, because racecar. So after the weekend, Annabelle was a complete car with all of the junk parts that wouldn’t be used in completing the white Camaro. Sid even renamed the tan Camaro… but she will always be Annabelle in my mind. The white Camaro was without a motor and tranny and sitting on jack stands. Camaro parts were everywhere; in my two garages, in Sid’s garage, in our living room, in my bedroom, everywhere. You know it’s bad when they’re even in the kitchen and bathroom. Over the next 6 months, LME of Houston, TX built a 383ci LS6 using a Callies Compstar rotating assembly, Mahle pistons, Patriot stage 2 heads, a Lunati Voodoo baby cam and a supporting valve train consisting of Lunati hydraulic roller lifters and Yella Terra roller rockers. Sid and I

mated the motor to a tubular k-member, tubular A-arms, KYB AGX shocks, Hotchkis springs and tubular rear suspension pieces such as a short torque arm, lower control arms and a panhard bar. After the Spec clutch provided infinite frustration, a Monster stage 3 clutch was used in combination with a Tick adjustable master cylinder, a T56 magnum direct from Tremec and the stock driveshaft/rear end. We added a Professional Products Typhoon intake, 92mm throttle body, Pacesetter long tube headers and ORY, 60# injectors, a 255lph fuel pump and an SLP underdrive pulley. I was invited to my first Long Beach cruise-in by Gale, a co-worker. She wanted me to meet her daughter, Tiffany. I came out in my other Camaro, a rare 2000 police interceptor packaged Camaro painted black and white from the factory. My sister drove the car first and named it Jake (as in “We’re on a mission from God”). I saw Tiffany thru the window of the interceptor and that was all it took for me…. she later told me that she told her mother “… He’s kind of a smart ass.” I was persistent and went home with her phone number tucked in my shirt pocket that night, but she ended up trying to pass me off on her cousin via a 4 page text. But I wasn’t going to be passed off so easily and everything changed when I invited her to a Surge ice hockey game, as a friend, in early April 2011. Our first date went well, so I earned another date. Thank goodness the Surge won it all that year, because it gave me plenty of home game date opportunities! Finally, I took her on our first non-hockey date. This date was unforgettable for so many reasons, but it started with her starting my 383 Camaro with open headers in the garage. It still wouldn’t move on its own power due to the clutch issues still being unresolved, but it was really funny to see her panic when she touched the clutch pedal and it fell to the floor. Due to the notorious clutch hydraulic issue the Camaro suffered three more tranny removals and installs before it finally moved on its own power. That was Tiffany’s introduction to the white Z28, which was not named at the time. We took Jake, (as in “We’re on a mission from God”) on the date, providing agreeable symmetry between our first cruise-in and our first “real” (non-hockey) date.

History of Picayune, MS "Pearl Rivers", the Pen Name of Elia Jane Poitevent Nicholson, who was the owner and publisher of the New Orleans Daily Picayune, a newspaper named for the Spanish coin. In the 1880s, the railroad passed through the community of Hobolochitto. The citizens in the community asked Ms. Poitevent to select a name for the township. She preferred the name of her paper--and Picayune, Mississippi was born. Today, Picayune is the only city in the world to bear this unusual and historic name. A thriving city of approximately 14,000 inhabitants, Picayune is a progress-oriented city that retains its small town southern charm. Well-maintained streets, good schools, and an abundance of churches, stores and restaurants combine with a mild subtropical climate to make Picayune an ideal spot to live or visit. The appeal of the area has always been obvious. So much so, that in the early years of European settlements, France, Spain and England all vied for possession of the area that now encompasses Picayune and Pearl River County. The Picayune area, long inhabited by the Choctaw Indians, was first claimed for France and called Louisiana. The first capital of French Louisiana was at nearby Biloxi, founded in 1669. In 1763, the French surrendered all their possessions in North America east of the Mississippi to the English. At the same time, the Spanish also ceded to the English their claims to what were called East Florida and West Florida. The Spanish reasserted their claim to the area in 1799 by attacking British forts in Baton Rouge, Mobile, and Pensacola. The area was returned to Spanish dominion until 1800 when Spain ceded the area to France. Napoleon Bonaparte's brother Jerome is said to have visited the area sometime during this period. Legend has it that he was headquartered on the river below Picayune - hence the name Napoleon was given to a settlement there. Napoleon sold the area to the young United States as part of the historic Louisiana Purchase. Although the Americans claimed the area, the Spanish continued to claim that West Florida extended to the East Pearl River, and the area did not officially come under U. S. control until 1810. In 1811, while the territory was yet the lawless abode of pirates and Indians, Stephen Jarrell became the first permanent white settler in what is now Picayune. Jarrell built a trading post on a bluff overlooking Hobolochitto Creek. The next year, 1812, Gen. Andrew Jackson passed through the area on his way to the Battle of New Orleans, and "Old Hickory" had a young quartermaster named Moses Cook who was sent to obtain supplies at Jarrell's post. Cook was so taken with the area, that he returned after the war to buy Jarrell out and take over the post. When Mississippi was admitted to the union in 1817, the area of Cook's post was included in the newly formed Hancock County. In 1832, Cook was able to establish a post office at his stand, which he named Hobolochitto. The area grew slowly in the antebellum years and was still sparsely populated by the time of the War Between the States. Most of the able-bodied men in the area joined the Confederate Army and went away during the war, and those left behind experienced hardships inflicted by jayhawkers and the occupying Yankee soldiers. In the years following the war, the area continued to grow. The railroad line from New Orleans to Cincinnati, Ohio was constructed through here in 1883 and greatly added to the local economy. A switching yard was located here because the trains had to be broken into smaller units before entering the hilly terrain that begins just to the north. For a time the settlement was known as Bailey Switch. In 1890, Pearl River County was formed, but it was 1908 before the area around Picayune was added to the county. Picayune was incorporated as a township in 1904, the name having been given by Poitevent. In 1905 it was incorporated as a town, and, in 1922 it was incorporated as a city. During the early years of Picayune, the area was in the midst of a

timber boom as companies harvested the immense stands of native loblolly and southern pine. When the native timber was depleted, tung trees were brought in and planted in orchards. The nuts from the trees were harvested for their oil, used in furniture finishing and other applications. Picayune soon became the tung capital of the world. At one time, over 100,000 acres in the county were devoted to tung orchards. Along with the tung trees, cattle became important. Cattle were used to graze the area between the trees, and cattle farming and tung orchardgrowing became mutually beneficent pursuits. The tung industry was destroyed when hurricane Camille destroyed most of the orchards in 1969. While the tung trees disappeared, the cattle stayed on and thrived. Today, beef farming is an important part of the local economy.

HOTRODS FOR THE STREET. That's B&B Motorsports motto. Located just outside the City of Picayune, in Pearl River County, MS it is easily accessible from the Gulf Coast, New Orleans and the North shore area. With customers from Memphis to the Gulf Coast, Houston to Panama City, customers are happy to bring their pride and joy to B&B Motorsports for the professional services they offer. With over 200 years combined experience in the shop B&B can offer everything the car enthusiast can want. According to Barry Barone," We want to build a beautiful car that is safe to drive and without worries of being able to get back home. When a car comes into B&B the first thing we do is a safety inspection, we go over the car top and bottom, at no charge to the customer. After we do this we go over it with customer and make suggestions of things they might want to look at in the future. If we find a safety issue that is dangerous, we will not do any work on the vehicle unless it is addressed. We just don't want to see any of customers hurt and only want to safe, drivable cars leave our shop. I mean, what good is air conditioning if your brakes fail at 70 miles an hour? B&B offers a wide range of services, including air conditioning, a must in the south, complete rewiring, suspension, engine and transmission, brake, bodywork and paint services, with everything in between. It is truly your one stop custom car shop. The only thing they send out is custom interiors, everything else is handled in shop. As Vintage Air dealers they will sell you a complete A/ C, heat defrost unit for less than you can buy it from Vintage Air. And have the skill to install it in your car professionally. According to the Captain, shop foreman," We shoot for 37 degrees coming from vents. We do this by not just sticking a unit in, but we insulate the firewall and seal all air leaks we can. We are proud of our customers complaining that its “too cold." When rewiring a car B&B uses American Autowire, preferring it over others due the higher heat tolerances of its insulation. "When we start rewiring, the first thing we do is remove all the old wire, then starting from a new fuse block we work our way out replacing every wire. Our wiring may take a little longer, but we solder and heat shrink every connection for superior conductivity over merely crimping" says Barry. With the prices of fuel going up everyday and the quality of fuel going down with addition of ethanol, B&B is doing more fuel injection conversions. "Most carburetors just can not stand up to ethanol in today's fuels. Fuel injection has been developed with that problem in mind. Being able to offer over three hundred horsepower and 26 miles per gallon makes many a customer able to enjoy their rides more everyday with less problems" says Barry. Fuel injection guru Ryan has the skill and knowledge to make it all work. Recently a customer brought a blown fuel injected truck to us. They had worked on it for quite sometime, as had others in the profession. We talked to Holley about the system and they told us that system just wouldn't work with two fuel injectors on top of a blower. As Holley dealers we accepted the challenge, with laptop in hand and modifications to the system, Ryan has the customer screaming down the highway. With the price of LS engines becoming more reasonable, and technology available, the conversion to fuel injected engines with their corresponding transmissions makes it an affordable, effective way to beat the fuel crisis. For those who want more power, we can update these systems with aftermarket components to build real horsepower.

With the unsurpassed skills of Mike in the body and paint department, B&B can usually save even the worst deteriorated car and bring it back to all it's former glory. Many parts, especially body parts are no longer available, but the fabricators at B&B will make whatever is needed, often times coming up with one of parts, giving the customer a truly unique ride. Rocketman, as they call Tom due to his 30 years in the space industry, can be given a problem and will come up with truly off the wall, out of the box idea." This is what it takes to do what we do, to face a problem, sit down as team and discuss it, come up with ways to overcome it. Then as they say, “Just do it, " say's Barry. With recent purchase of a Bridgeport mill their machinist, Don, is able to manufacture even more parts that B&B plans to share with rest of the industry soon. The team at B&B Motorsports does this because they love it. According to the Captain," Everyone here can make more money working elsewhere, we work here because we love hotrodding and want to able to be creative and do new and exciting thins in the industry. We travel each year to Indianapolis to participate in the Hotrod, Restoration and Performance show, taking classes from industries leaders, such as Fatman, Detroit Speed, Holley and many, many more. As well as sharing with others what we are doing and listening what they are doing. This keeps us ahead of most shops, by developing personal relationships with the industry suppliers, giving is an edge because in addition to what we learn, we are a face, not just a voice on the phone, when call a vendor." In addition to custom cars, B&B loves racing, From Ryans 150 mph Honda ( yes, we said Honda) to B&B's 220 mph Top Dragster, chances are you might find one of the team at a dragstrip somewhere in the southeast on any given weekend. The Sheriff in a small town walks out in the street and sees a blonde cowboy coming down the walk with nothing on but his cowboy hat, gun and his boots, so he arrests him for indecent exposure. As he is locking him up, he asks "Why in the world are you walking around like this?" The Cowboy says, "Well it's like this Sheriff . I was in the bar down the road and this pretty little red head asks me to go out to her motor home with her. So I did. We go inside and she pulls off her top and asks me to pull off my shirt... so I did. Then she pulls off her skirt and asks me to pull off my pants so I did. Then she pulls off her panties and asks me to pull off my shorts ...so I did. Then she gets on the bed and looks at me kind of sexy and says, 'Now go to town cowboy... '. "And here I am." Have a nice day, 41. To keep FRESH FLOWERS longer Add a little Clorox , or 2 Bayer aspirin , or just use 7-up instead of water. 42. Don't forget Gatorade for Migraine Headaches. PowerAde won't work When you go to buy bread in the grocery store, have you ever wondered which is the freshest, so you 'squeeze' for freshness or softness? Did you know that bread is delivered fresh to the stores five days a week? Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Each day has a different color twist tie. They are: Monday = Blue, Tuesday = Green, Thursday = Red Friday = White Saturday = Yellow. So if today was Thursday, you would want red twist tie; not white which is Fridays (almost a week old)! The colors go alphabetically by color Blue- Green - Red - White - Yellow, Monday through Saturday. Very easy to remember. Enjoy fresh bread when you buy bread with the right color on the day you are shopping.

by: Lynn Makua In this weather I open the two living room windows and the kitchen window above the sink, which gives us a breeze straight through the kitchen and out the living room windows. Larry put a shelf above the sink at the bottom of the window, for my soap, etc. He varnished it and it looked great! Just as he put in the last support bracket (there were 3) guess who jumped up and laid on the self and claimed possession from then on! Our ½ Siamese cat.! “Easy” (the cat) and I were looking out the kitchen window at our acre and guess what no grass!! After Katrina we leveled 90 % and filled the huge ditches that Katrina made. After it was leveled (our friend forever) Bob Henry loaned us his Bob Cat and Larry being a former Seabee from WWII leveled the property. We then put down painters drop cloth (black) over the ¾ acre that was leveled and brought in “sand”. Our good friend Billy of Billy Vincent Trucking brought in the Sand. Mike (of the VFW in BSL) (see their ad) you would not like our property. Rock and Palm Trees in front and

Sand in back. No riding lawn mower on this property! But rumor has it that he has ordered a baby riding lawn mower for his new granddaughter that his daughter Lacy just had. Oh, we call our back yard “Pineapples Beach” and maybe we will put up a street sign one day. If anybody has any extra palm trees I would be glad to plant them on Pineapple's Beach! Juan the owner of El Maguy's (see his ad) has lots of cactus on his property and said I can take all the cactus I need. So I guess I will start with cactus. Yes, Tina (night bartender at Workmen's Bar in Gulfport) I will bring in the pictures of my beach. Now I'm hungry. Time for my Hawaiian Breakfast (spam, steamed rice & eggs). Larry is outside working on his 1940 Ford or as I call it his “darling child”, so he won't be able to smell the spam. All this reminds me of Hawaii. It has been said that in the pursuit of money the Polynesian is irresponsible; in the pursuit of happiness, dedicated. Whether or not it is true, this adage speaks volumes about Waikiki's most celebrated beachboy, Chick Daniels. But it also suggests a disquieting paradox: how can a life fully lived seem to have been squandered? Beachboys who knew Chick always said that he could've been a millionaire. “Chick had to have fun with his money”, recalled his old sidekick, Turkey Love. “He showed me one time, in one week in tips he made twothousand dollars. That's like twenty-thousand dollars now. He hired a plane and took six of us to Molaki. We opened up a bar, drank, came back. That was Chick Daniels. He made it and he threw it away. In a world obsessed with accumulating money, Chick was obsessed with spending it. As head beach attendant at the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, he had the money job, and he had the personality to exploit it. Hawaiians said that Chick was kolohe, or “crazy.” Not crazy as in nuts but “wild-kind crazy-good fun.” Four the greater part of his eighty-three years, Chick Daniels was toasted by celebrities who carried his name, and sometime his person, back to Hollywood. He led the beachboy's life, and he lived it to the hilt. But in the end that life rose up and struck him like a surfboard from behind. The beachboy who could not go broke ended up a broken man. Perhaps there also is a message in his madness. Certainly no beachboy ever had as much fun, spent as much money, or was well loved as Chick Daniels.

Ok, back to Mississippi: “Anita's Bar (see her ad) had her Car & Bike Show (Aug. 10) and it was packed! She had my favorite local singer Mike Woods. Mike also plays at VFW, BSL. I met him when I was a bartender at Harold & Lillian's (Clermont Harbor) and he did Karaoke. I did not stay long. Anita had $5.00 plates-burgers, potato salad, beans, but I was in the mood for a Muffuletta. I jump into Precious (1990 300zx) and head for LIL JOE'S on Blaze Ave next to Bingo's Bar. As I am driving there I noticed the new location for Sloppy Dog. It looked like it was doing good. Joe Dedeaux is the manager of LIL JOE'S. Muffuletta's are great, they also have fried seafood platters, buns/po boys. Since they don't have wine I had my choice of going to Beningos' The Zoo or Blaze Bar. Since I knew the bartender I took my Muffuletta to Biningos. Now its time for me to head for the new bar I told you about last month “Blind Tiger” across from 200 North Beach Restaurant on Beach Blvd. It reminds me of the bars in Hawaii. You can sit at the bar and watch the beautiful ocean. On your right is the train tracks going over the ocean. On you left you see the big beautiful bridge that takes you to Pass Christian , Long Beach, Gulfport. At night it must be beautiful. The bar has about 10 stools. As you walk in to your right are a couple of tables, to your left about 5 or 6 tables. To your left they have a big out door patio. All you cruisers will love it. But, be sure and get there early. Parking is along the street. Watch next month for some of my old and new places! ALOHA Y'ALL PINEAPPLE

Red Creek Classics Car Club hosted 3rd Annual Antique Car Appreciation Day By Mary McVeigh This day was dedicated to the preservation of antique motor vehicles and the people who make it happen. Antique and classic car clubs were represented all over the Mississippi coastal areas, Hattiesburg and areas to the north, and even from Louisiana. Saturday, August 3, 2013, over 117 antique cars were driven to Flint Creek Water Park in Wiggins to enjoy a day of fun, food, music, and fellowship. This is the third year that the Red Creek Classic Car Club has hosted this event which is open for all car clubs as well as independent car enthusiasts. This year was more enjoyable at the Lakeside Lodge, where hamburgers and hotdogs were served in air-conditioned comfort and guests could sit down at a table to eat. Other food items and desserts were donated by club members and some of the guests too. A special thanks goes out to Cynthia and Doug Arnold of Purvis who brought watermelons enough for everyone to enjoy that day and a whole watermelon for every family to take home. While Richard Clayton of the Red Creek Classics played “oldies” music throughout the day, the cruisers were offered a 50/50 drawing and about 40 door prizes were given out. We thank vocalist, Brianna Parker, for her musical performance. Finally, the Red Creek Classic Car Club wishes to thank all those who made a donation. These donations help cover some of the expenses and make it possible to continue hosting this annual event. We look forward to seeing everyone again next year. You can follow Red Creek Classics Car Club events on Facebook and at www.redcreekclassicscarclub.org

“Hello, Sarah. Could you connect me to the filling station?” Everyone remembers words like this used on the “Andy Griffith Show”. Everybody in Mayberry had a party line. Remember the episode when Malcolm Tucker from Charlotte had his car break down in Mayberry on Sunday and the Mendlebright sisters were talking on the phone for hours? “First my right foot started tingling, then the left. Would you like to know what was wrong? My feet fell asleep! … I wonder what causes that?” You were told that Maude and Cora Mendlebright were in their 80's with one living in Mayberry and one in Mt. Pilot. This episode revealed a glimpse of a Sunday in Mayberry. People simply did not work and just relaxed on those days. This was the only opportunity the Mendlebright sisters had to communicate with one another. When Mr. Tucker tried to interrupt them so he could make an important call, confusion really set in. The topic turned from their feet falling asleep to a discussion of who they knew in the Tucker family. It is a hilarious description of how life was affected by the party line. In 1930, 63% of residential telephone users in the Bell System were on a party line, predominantly in rural and urban areas. Cities like New York had no party lines at that time. Now when I refer to a party line, I am not talking about the chat lines for sex advertised on late night television and the internet. No, no! I am referring to more than one person sharing a telephone line with others. There was only one telephone in our house and that was a solid black phone with no decorative value at all. It sat on a table in the front hallway. I don't remember exactly how the party line worked. I think we had two long rings followed by a short ring. When that signal pealed, the call was for one of us. If it was a short and two longs it was for someone else. No matter what ring it was, I was always devilishly tempted to pick up the phone and listen in. Private conversations didn't exist. Everyone present in the area could hear the telephone conversation, and it was further complicated by not knowing what anonymous person might be eavesdropping without your knowledge. The possibility existed that someone else could overhear me asking a girl for a date and her turning me down. (I am not admitting that this ever happened to me!) How embarrassing it was to know that some gossipy person on the party line could spread that news far and wide! Wait a minute! With the new information about the N.S.A. snooping, we still have people listening in on our phone calls…and reading our email… and sharing that information with others without our permission. I guess we have no more privacy with our private lines than we did 50 to 100 years ago with party lines. Why do we tolerate this in 2013? Is this the change that was promised? It is so ironic that the more things change, the more they stay the same. The party line demonstrates there are many things in our lives that are inconvenient, frustrating, irritating, and annoying, and yet we can overcome them with our resolve. Perhaps all of these peevish problems actually bring us closer together and cause the oneness that is so unique to the U.S.A. I don't understand much, but I do realize how fortunate I am to have grown up with inspiration from people who have come into my life accidentally, yet changed my world permanently. The party line of our youth no longer exists but my current party line is filled with hundreds of caring people encouraging, teaching, supporting and sharing ideas with me. They are my greatest treasure. I thank you one and all. I will leave you with an observation from my Uncle Ezra: “You don't need a parachute to skydive. You only need a parachute to skydive twice.”

We are at the tail end of summer and all the kids are going back to school. The theaters should be thinning out but nobody has got the memo. My local haunts are packed and doing good box office. That means more late summer block busters coming my way and I have no choice but to man up and catch a few. So here we go. Elysium. Written and directed by Neil Blomkamp. The genre is action/sci fi, rated R with a run time of 1hr 49min. It stars Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, Sharito Copley and Alice Frey. This film looked real familiar in the trailers. Think Mad Max, Star Wars and Alien. I like Mat Damon and took a chance because he puts out a quality product and takes some chances with his roles. This was not a bad movie. The story follows earth in the future when everything is in ruins and people have destroyed the ecology and they live like rats in the desert, But, there is salvation in the form of a floating spaceship that is a perfect world, the Elysiyum. This is a classic tale of the have and have nots. Jodi Foster is the forceful top official who runs the eutopia but answers to a peace loving council. There is no diseases and nobody suffers from stress, lack of food. Crime is a memory. Sounds great, but there is a catch, Foster's character wants to rule this eutophian space ship and will do anything to get control. This goes against what was planned for the lucky few who live in its luxury. Meanwhile, back on what is left of mother earth, Damon's character will do anything to get on the Elysium. He has grown up as a kid from the wrong side of the tracks. He is a master criminal with a heart of gold. That was the most interesting thing about the story line. The good guy is a criminal and the bad guys are the upper society that lives high above the pain of a decaying world. Finally Matt's desire to rise above hooks him up in a suit of armor with super powers. That might sound silly till you see how they attach this robot skeleton to Damons bulked up, bald headed hero muscle bound body, ouch! With a little help from his new friends, and a plan to save the love of his life's daughter from dying of cancer, he boldly goes where no other earth bound human has gone. Into the clouds to put Jodie Fosters evil, would be dictator, out of business. This is a little different from the usual sci fi story and worth seeing. I give this film 6 out of 10 pics. Next up is a horror film titled, The Conjuring. It was directed by James Wan and written by Chad Hayes. The genre is horror, thriller. It is rated R and has a run time of 1hr 52min. It stars Patrick Wilson, Vera Farmiga, Ron Livinston and Lili Taylor. I don't go see to many horror films because that is such a limited genre and most are boring slasher flicks that are all gore and no story. The trailers for this project peeked my interest so I grabbed a box of popcorn and sat down, ready to be scared. Well, this film does have a story line, a very long and detailed story line. So long that I was hoping a hockey masked teenage killing machine would have risen from the dead and sped up this snore fest. The story is set in the 70's and they did a good job getting us back to the future. You know, lots of wood paneling, shag carpet and every body is wearing brown and orange clothes! I guess this film is based on true story. It follows an unlucky family who buys a new house and tries to start a new life but their new address has some old tenants. Sounds real familiar but they have some good actors and a true story twist. After the family gets to scared to live in their new house in the woods, they hire a husband and wife demon whisperer team. This team has retired from the haunted house business and are making a meager living doing speaking engagements. The husband and wife are a couple of bad asses who know

how to exorcise any unholy visitor. I was hoping for a scary movie in mold of the greatest horror film of all time, The Excsosist. They have the look, they have a somewhat true supernatural event, it looks good on paper, but.....This film feel way short of a home run, They spent way too much time setting the big scare, that by the time the ghost appeared, the audience were half asleep or on their phones watching the Excosist on Netflix. Man, it is boring. When the ghost and goblins finally showed their ugly faces, it was too little, too late. Like I mentioned before, they had some good actors but the director dropped the ball and let this snoozzy thriller limp to the all to common tinsel town ending. Actress Lili Taylor did do as good job as the possessed mother and Vera Farmiga, one of my favs, did a descent job as the ghost whisperer that might be pushing her luck to far to come back from this lack luster scary movie. I give this little house of horrors 4 out of 10 pics. While writing this months column I took a chance and caught the late night premier of Kick Ass 2 and just got back so I could finish up this review with a good film to talk about. I didn't see KA 1 but this was a fun little movie. It was directed and written by Jeff Wadlow from the comic book creator Mark Miller. The genre is action and is rated R. It has a run time of 1hr and 43min. It stars Arron Taylor Johnson, Chloe Grace Moeretz, Chris D'Amico and Jim Carrey. The director didn't mess around and this flick got right to the point. The point of this movie is smart, fast and funny. Perfect for a summer full of big budget blow outs. This script is so over the top it's almost a believable scenario! This sequel follows the masked teenage crime fighters Kick-Ass and Hit-Girl as they skip school and keep the big city safe for all of us! Not really a new concept but the pace is fast enough to keep you from over thinking. There are plenty of well directed fight scenes that are funny, bloody and set up the tender moments that all teenagers go through while growing up. Like, putting a mask on and avenging your parents death by murder while going through high school almost unnoticed. They become heroes to the public and pest to the police. Jim Carrey's super hero character is a big change from his usual goofy, over acted loveable goofball persona. You will recognize the actor, Chris D'Amico, as the evil nemeses, Mother F...... He mostly plays a nerdy but lovable sidekick in his movies but not this time. He plays a non-lovable nerdy bad guy who is rich enough to buy his way into the spotlight and wants to destroy Kick Ass and Hit Girl for killing his criminal dad and keeping the streets save for all of us. Plenty of twist and turns, violence and well, ass kicking, makes this little film a big movie and a great way to spend your hard earned cash. I am a fan of this franchise and will give this comic book hero blowout 7 out of 10 pics.

Thanks for all the comments and letters. Keep them coming and thanks for the suggestions. See you at the Matinees!

Dirt Track Memories by: Larry Dunham

Some are in wheel chairs, many are dead, none of my article have they read, but my thoughts always return to them. Last month I featured Pat Clancy of Memphis and the 6 wheel Indy 500 race car. Danny Burke and I were working on the chassis. Danny was my mentor, got me started as a driver in the midget ranks (1949) and he taught me my 1st lessons on chassis fabrication and also track set up. The driver in '49 was “Billy De Vore” and he finished 12th that year at the 500. There were a few e-mails sent to me with questions about the unusual car, which was outlawed by the 500 mile rule book after the race. “If you can't beat'em, outlaw them”. Case in point was my good friend and fellow midget driver Don Edmunds builder of over 300 race cars, and former “Rookie of the year” in 1957 at the 500! Don's midgets were great cars and equal to the Kurtis that was the 1st production line midget race car. I bought mine in 1953 after Joe Lucy left California with his two race cars #4 and #9. The 4 is the car above this article, and the #9 was driven by Willie Wildhaber another good friend of mine. In 1956 or 57 Willie won the UARA 50 lap mid season championship race over “Tat” Tattersall\ Geo. Sellery, Johnny Meyers and Neut White. Due to the usual, my good e-mail pal Mitch “G” who writes for Auto Racing Memories. Com (all one word) sent me a photo of some Texas dirt ¼ mile with the midgets “having” at it” in the feature. Mitch asked me about the right rear tire that he had never seen before, well I replied it was a “Galoney”. In the old days before most of you were born 1949-1956, the tires were usually Firestones and after they got worn you took them to the recap shop and told the guy to “cap” them, and what durometer of hardness you wanted. Well the wheels were 4,6,8,10 wide and someone (I don't know who) was a pilot and got an owners to put on the huge, (about 16”) wide, tire on the right rear when you come to “bad” surface dirt tracks. Run about 8 lbs pressure, it had a rectangular low profile block tread. Boy did they ever get a “bite” but they made cornering real hard to handle, when you stomped the throttle. Speaking of “bad surface dirt tracks” there were times when the promoter would ask the members to come out early and pick up the rocks (and I mean rocks) as we spread out and walked the track. Back in 1951 I'm at “Berdoo” (San Bernardino, Calif.) driving for Ray Cook Sr. (#38 car Mitch bought from Ted Cornis) I'm running the heat race and a rock hits my lower face and jaw and knocks my lower teeth back in my mouth I come in spitting blood, and Roy reaches in and straightens up my lower teeth. He says “Keep your teeth together and don't open your mouth and they should “set them selves” by the end of the main event. I was 23 years old then and damned if it didn't work! Joliet, Illinois was one of Willie Wildhaber favorite tracks. The photo here is him in the famous Edelbrock #27 that gave the “Offys” more than they expected with Roger Ward driving at Gilmore Stadium in Los Angeles during the 1940''s. The #27 car was sold to Frank Pavese and Willie was put in a s driver at Joliet. Willie died in 1973 head on auto crash in Ohio when an on coming car crossed the meridian. Gaze at your dusty old trophies on the shelf today - Then be King of yesterday.

These two themes will be celebrated throughout the rally in our rides, our exhibits, and a big Birthday Bash Saturday night. Biloxi sits on a peninsula. You can’t travel anywhere without

crossing bridges. Both of our two main bridges that connect our beautiful 26 miles of beaches were washed away by Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Both were replaced by two brand new, up to date, very wide 6 lane bridges. We will make a 30 mile trek across these bridges with 26 miles of Beach Boulevard between the two. This will be our premier H.O.G. ride escorted by our finest Mississippi Highway Patrol Motorcycle Brigade. Friday and Saturday night’s entertainment will be provided by one of our best Southern bands on the coast; The Rochelle Harper Band. Rochelle has a powerful southern voice with a little jazz, a little Janis Joplin, and a lot of kick. We will also have entertainment at Thursday night’s Pirate Beach Party and Friday night’s pool party. So don’t forget your beach clothes and swimming suits. It’s time to ride and have fun, and party southern style. Visit us on Facebook. Pfizer Corp. announced today that Viagra will soon be available in liquid form, and will be marketed by a very popular Cola Co. as a power beverage suitable for use as a mixer. It will now be possible for a man to literally pour himself a stiff one. Obviously we can no longer call this a soft drink, and it gives new meaning to the names of "cocktails", "highballs" and just a good old-fashioned "stiff drink". I think they will market the new concoction by the name of: MOUNT & DO. Thought for the day: There is more money being spent on breast implants and Viagra today than on Alzheimer's research. This means that by 2040, there should be a large elderly population with perky boobs and huge erections and absolutely no recollection of what to do with them. seniorark@ Jimbo, My name is Brittanie Sarker, and I have been an amateur portrait photographer for about 5 years now. What started out just as a fun hobby, that I have always enjoyed, is turning a corner for me. The photo shoot you are publishing this month with Tiffany & Loren was very interesting work for me. I’d like the opportunity to do more classic car photos. If any of your readers would like a photo portfolio of their vehicle they could contact me at this email address brittanie.sarker@eagles.usm. and I will promptly reply. …. Brittanie -------------------------------------------------------Brittanie is the photographer who photographed this months cover and feature as well as the centerfold. Great job Brittanie and you should get a few phone call after people see this months magazine. Here is something people should know about Capital Letters... a teacher's explanation - short and to the point. In the world of hi-tech gadgetry, I've noticed that more and more people who send text messages and emails have long forgotten the art of using capital letters. For those of you who fall into this category, please take a note of the following statement: "Capitalization is the difference between helping your Uncle Jack off a horse and…. helping your uncle jack off a horse." Is everybody clear on that? It’s all about havin’ fun and for most of us it’s good friends, good music, good food, kool cars and Great Cruizin’. Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida offers some of the best cruising and shows the good ol’ U.S.A. has. And that’s why we are the Coast Cruizers. The Gulf Coast Auto Show is a reunion of all you Coast Cruizers and the readers who support this magazine. . the 1st weekend in April every year on the Mississippi Gulf Coast will be your time. Come enjoy the Mississippi Gulf Coast, we’d love to see ya! Till next month… Jimbo
