Of all Jesus’ miracles, the most unsettling might be when he made a dead person alive. We know of three times when he did so: a girl, a young man, and Lazarus. The miracle teaches us he has the power of life and death. He anticipates his resurrection. Sin hurts us. Some sin kills us, spiritually. The three miracles reveal to us that no matter our circumstances, Jesus can give life to us. Though weighed down by grief, Martha rushes out to meet Jesus. She may not understand why he was absent upon the death of her brother, but her fait hfulness is undeterred. In the hour of her heartbreak, she knows her only solace is in the embrace of the Lord.

TODAY’S READINGS

First Reading: I will put my spirit in you that you may live, and I will settle you upon your land; thus you shall know that I am the LORD. (Ez 37:14)

Second Reading: If the Spirit of the one who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you,the one who raised Christ from the dead will give life to your mortal bodies also, through his Sprit dwelling in you. (Rom 8:11)

Gospel: “I am the resurrection and the life; whoever believes in me, even if he dies, will live, and everyone who lives and believes in me will never die.” (Jn 11:25-26)

The empanadas sale was a success, praise the Lord and all the community who helped us out. MDS again said Thanks for all the support.

Society of St. Vincent de Paul –Incarnation Conference

Thanks to the generous support from our parish, during 2022 we assisted, 174 households, totaling 435 people, in our community with rent (we temporarily have suspended help with rent), utilities, food and other expenses. As we continue to assist the needy in the new year, we ask for your continued support. The food pantry, which is a dry food pantry only, is open two days a month, on a Wednesday and Saturday, from 10am to noon. Here are the dates for the first half of the year: 2/22 and 2/25, 3/22 and 3/25, 4/19 and 4/22, 5/24 and 5/27, 6/21 and 6/24. Both assistances, the financial team and the pantry, are for those who reside in the 33614, 33615, 33634 and 33635 zip codes. We appreciate your continued support thru volunteering and/or food and monetary donations on the third weekend of the month. If you are interested in learning more about our organization, we welcome you to join us at our monthly meetings every third Wednesday of the month at 6:30pm in St. Patrick’s room. Gracias al generoso apoyo de nuestra parroquia, durante 2022 ayudamos a 174 hogares, con un total de 435 personas, en nuestra comunidad con alquiler, servicios públicos, alimentos y otros gastos. A medida que continuamos ayudando a los necesitados en el nuevo año, le pedimos su continuo apoyo. La despensa de alimentos, que es solo una despensa de alimentos secos, está abierta dos días al mes, los miércoles y Sábado, de 10 a. m. al mediodía. Welcome back Faith Formation families. We pray you al had a great spring break. We are on our 5th Sunday of Lent and thank Jesus for leading the way to eternal life. Today will end our classes for two weeks as we are off for Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday. Enjoy your time with family and continue as a family to reflect on Lent and do good deeds. We will see you back on April16th. Only three classes from there.

Bienvenidas de nuevas familias de Formación en la Fe. Oramos para que hayas tenido unas buenas vacaciones de primavera. Estamos en nuestro 5º domingo de Cuaresma y agradecemos a Jesús por guiar el camino a la vida eterna. Hoy terminaremos nuestras clases durante dos semanas, ya que estamos libres para el Domingo de Ramos y el Domingo de Pascua. Disfrute de su tiempo con la familia y continúe como familia para reflexionar sobre la Cuaresma y hacer buenas obras. Nos vemos de vuelta el 16 de abril. Sólo tres clases de allí.

Have You Been Confirmed yet?

As Catholics … the three sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and Eucharist are what are required to become fully initiated into the Church. If you are 18 or older and have never been Confirmed, this might be your blessed day.

Incarnation will be having Adult Confirmation classes beginning the week after Easter. They will be offered in English and Spanish in the evenings.

On April 18, 2023, the Tuesday night Englishspeaking Bible Study group will begin an 8-week study of the Epistle to the Hebrews. This group meets on Zoom.com at 7-9PM. Entitled “Hebrews”, the letter was probably composed as a homily of encouragement to first century Jewish Christians, and now to us, when the demands of living a Christian life in the modern world, cause us to become lukewarm in our faith.

Hebrews: The New and Eternal Covenant, presented by Dr. Andrew Swafford and Jeff Cavins, is a bible study program that draws out the complex themes of the book of Hebrews so Catholics can see, appreciate, and take hold of the riches God has given them in the New Covenant. Each participant will need to purchase a workbook from AscensionPress.com. The cost is $29.95 plus shipping and tax, all totaling $37.20. The workbook includes session overviews, home reading assignments, study questions, helpful responses, and talk notes for the video presentations. Online videos will be accessible for one year.

In addition to the workbook, participants will need a Catholic edition of the Bible, and a copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, which are referenced throughout the study. Also, this study group meets online on Zoom.com. Therefore, online access, on a computer with audio and video capabilities, will be necessary for full participation in group meetings. “El que está vivo y cree en mí, dice el Señor, no morirá para siempre” (Juan 11,26). Este es el séptimo y último milagro de Jesús en el Evangelio de Juan; como pasó con la samaritana, el diálogo se ve truncado a cada momento porque Jesús retoma las palabras dándoles un significado diferente (Comentario Biblia Latinoamérica edición revisada 2005).

Martha y María, amigas de Jesús, estaban muy tristes por la muerte de su hermano Lázaro. Ellas pensaban que, si Jesús hubiese estado presente, él no habría muerto. Sin embargo, Lázaro murió para que el Hijo de Dios fuera glorificado. ¿Crees esto? ¿Qué piensas exactamente de la resurrección?

La respuesta de Jesús sobre la vida y la muerte va más allá y afirma: “Yo soy la resurrección y la vida. El que cree en mí, aunque muera, vivirá. El que vive, el que cree en mí, no morirá para siempre” (Juan 11,25). Que más claridad se puede tener, la convicción de la vida eterna es cuestión de fe no de convencimientos. Ahora, ya se acerca la pasión del Señor, que lo llevará a la muerte en la cruz, y se prepara para su gloriosa resurrección. Terminaremos la Cuaresma con la esperanza que todas las acciones buenas durante ese tiempo hayan sido realizadas con amor hacia cada miembro de la familia y comunidad. Que no sea una Cuaresma más, sino que se salga fuera de las tumbas del egoísmo y se luche incansablemente por una sociedad mejor.
