Come and See “He said to them, ‘Come, and you will see.’”- John 1:39 This past week we entered into what is called Ordinary Time on the Church calendar. The word “ordinary” is typically used to describe something that is not particularly special or distinctive. This is definitely not true of the way the Church uses the word. During Ordinary Time, our Gospel readings reveal the day-to-day public life and ministry of Jesus. They give us an insight into what His life was like, and how He interacted with those He came into contact with. This Sunday we read in the Gospel of John, Chapter 1, how Jesus begins to call His disciples. First, He asks a question of those who began to follow Him. He says, “What are you looking for?” They respond by referring to Him as Rabbi or teacher, and then ask Him where He is staying. Jesus says to them, “Come, and you will see.” This question “What are you looking for?” and the Jesus’ invitation to “Come and see” are also spoken to you and me. What are you searching for in life? What will fulfill you and give you peace? Where do you look for peace and happiness in your life? Of course, the answer to each of these questions is Jesus Christ - the source of our hope, peace, and joy. Unfortunately, many people fail to recognize this, and spend their lives looking elsewhere. At the beginning of Ordinary Time, and at the beginning of this new year, Jesus invites you to come and spend some time with Him. He invites you to come to know Him better. He invites you to have a close and personal relationship with Him. Do you have the courage to do so? If the answer is yes, extraordinary things can happen in your life. -Bishop Gregory Parkes

I pray these lines find all doing well. All is good here, in fact all has been great. I just came back from a small vacation after the Christmas holidays and what a great, relaxing time it was!!! (I have no actual idea since I am writing this on the Monday morning at 7:10 AM on the Monday of my vacation – but here’s hoping!!!) Fr. Francisco and Fr. Brian will also be taking time off, I gave them first dibs but they let me go first. Fr. Francisco is off this coming week and Fr. Brian is off in the beginning of February. This week’s Gospel is all about the call to Discipleship. Each and every one of us are called and in our own way, whether we know it or not ARE Disciples of Jesus. If people in your life, family and friends, know you to be Catholic then you are constantly representing Jesus in what you say and do. And don’t let the non-believers in your life fool you – they are watching to see how you live your life, especially during tough times. Today in our Gospel people were finding out about Jesus by word of mouth, family and friends who saw or heard about Jesus told others. What is important to remember is that those individuals who told people about Jesus were believed, these were people who spoke the truth, whose words could be trusted. These people did trust in what was said about Jesus, and of course, once they encountered Jesus for themselves – they were hooked (no fishing pun intended.) Jesus can do anything He wants (big understatement) but He chooses to have “US” spread the news about Him to those we love. When we live our lives in the way of a true Christian then we, like the disciples will draw many to Jesus! Have a great week! -Love, Fr. Mike

Vengan a ver
Él les dijo: “Vengan a ver”. - Jn 1, 39
