I pray these lines find all doing well. All is good here at Incarnation, it is really good to be back and on the “other side” of covid. I mentioned this at Masses last weekend but for those who were not there, Thank You so much for the phone calls, the cards and well wishes while I was in quarantine, it meant more than you know. We hear today about the beatitudes. Jesus reminds us that life is not always easy. In fact, it can be difficult at times. One of the worse things we can do as a people is to compare our lives to those around us. Each and every one of us have difficult times that we go through and the best way to get through them is in our prayer life with Jesus. Nobody is ever going to understand like Jesus and nobody else is going to be able to get us through but Jesus. This is where our daily relationship and conversation with the Lord makes all the difference in the world. Just as all of us have special gifts and talents, we, at times also have our rough situations and times that we go through. Although they do not always feel good, they help to form us into the people that Jesus creates us to be. Remember we are not here on this earth forever, but we are going to be in Heaven forever and as we also read in today’s gospel – Your reward will be great in Heaven. God Bless You! Love, Fr. SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME
FEBRUARY 13, 2022
Scripture can someƟmes be confusing. We know that God created everything, and called it all “good.” But in today’s Gospel reading, Jesus seems to suggest that partaking in this good creaƟon—having enough to eat, being able to provide for our material needs, and enjoying ourselves and the earth—is somehow bad, even a curse. What’s going on? None of these things—wealth, good food, laughter, or praise—are bad in their own right. The problem is when we are saƟsfied by these earthly things—when we’re so filled up with them that we lose the desire for God. In contrast to this, Jesus praises those who are empty— the poor, the hungry, the sorrowful, and the excluded— again, not because poverty or hunger or any of these things are good in their own right, but because when we find ourselves in these condiƟons, we’re more open to God. We know that nothing here will ulƟmately saƟsfy us, and so we turn to Him. The Church calls this the virtue of spiritual poverty—and it can transform the way we think about wealth. Instead of wealth becoming a kind of ball and chain, that holds us down and holds us back, spiritual poverty allows us to see that whatever we have is a giŌ—a giŌ God has entrusted to us, and asks us to use prudently as His stewards. Let’s keep the virtue of spiritual poverty in mind as we discern—as a community and as families—how we can support our diocesan Catholic Ministry Appeal. 4

Regulations on Fasting and Abstinence
The dual disciplines of fasting and abstinence have a long history in the Catholic Church. Going back to the early Church, the purpose behind the custom of self denial is not punishment; it is to simplify our lifestyles so that we create a certain emptiness. In this way, freed from all distractions, we are able to hear and respond to God’s continued call to conversion and holiness. ♦ Fasting is to be observed on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday by all Catholics between the ages of 18 to 59 years (inclusive). On days of fasting, one full meal is allowed. Two smaller meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids are allowed. ♦ Abstinence from meat is to be observed by all Catholics who are 14 years of age and older. Ash Wednesday, all the Fridays of Lent, and Good Friday are days of abstinence. Note: If a person is unable to observe the above regulations due to ill health or other serious reasons, they are urged to practice other forms of self denial that are suitable to their condition. Fasting, almsgiving, and prayer are the three traditional disciplines of Lent. The faithful and catechumens should undertake these practices seriously in a spirit of penance and of preparation for baptism or of renewal of baptism at Easter.
Ash Wednesday Mass Schedule March 2, 2022 7:00AM, 8:30AM, 12:10PM & 6:00PM - Spanish Please welcome the following children who were baptized here at Incarnation in the month of January: Maria Guadalupe Castellanos Chacin Kori Nicolette Bazert Jude Joshua Lang Annali Virginia Tonge Sebastian Omar Tonge With the prayers and help of their parents, godparents, and this community, may the Holy Spirit fill them abundantly with His Grace at every moment of their lives. SENTIRSE BENDICIDO
