LENTEN PENANCE SERVICE March 27 at 7:00pm

HOLY WEEK April 10th through April 15th PALM SUNDAY April 9th EASTER SUNDAY April 16th Regulations on Fasting and Abstinence The dual disciplines of fasting and abstinence have a long history in the Catholic Church. Going back to the early Church, the purpose behind the custom of self denial is not punishment; it is to simplify our lifestyles so that we create a certain emptiness. In this way, freed from all distractions, we are able to hear and respond to God’s continued call to conversion and holiness.

Ash Wednesday Mass Schedule 7:00AM, 8:30AM, 12:10PM & 7:30PM 6:00PM - Spanish Mass

♦ Fasting is to be observed on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday by all Catholics between the ages of 18 to 59 years (inclusive). On days of fasting, one full meal is allowed. Two smaller meals, sufficient to maintain strength, may be taken according to one’s needs, but together they should not equal another full meal. Eating between meals is not permitted, but liquids are allowed. ♦ Abstinence from meat is to be observed by all Catholics who are 14 years of age and older. Ash Wednesday, all the Fridays of Lent, and Good Friday are days of abstinence. Note: If a person is unable to observe the above regulations due to ill health or other serious reasons, they are urged to practice other forms of self denial that are suitable to their condition. Fasting, almsgiving, and prayer are the three traditional disciplines of Lent. The faithful and catechumens should undertake these practices seriously in a spirit of penance and of preparation for baptism or of renewal of baptism at Easter.

DON’T BE ANXIOUS People have, it seems, a natural penchant for misplaced emphasis on unimportant things. They can easily get caught up with what they’re having for dinner or what they will wear. Often it is a tragedy that helps people to refocus on what is really important. What I shall wear is an irrelevant question when I am facing surgery or chemotherapy. What’s for dinner is immaterial to those living through grief or unemployment. In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells us not to worry. He doesn’t say, “Don’t eat. Don’t cook. Don’t buy clothes.” He says, “Don’t worry.” Jesus asks us not to relinquish our responsibilities but to let go of our anxiety. Anxiety betrays a lack of trust and Jesus reminds us that “Your heavenly Father knows” all that you need (Matthew 6:32).

This weekend is commitment weekend. With your gift, you can inspire hope for those in need. Your generous gift/pledge to the 2017 Annual Pastoral Appeal on behalf of our parish will help us reach our goal and provide for the ministries, programs and services that are essential to continue God’s work for in our diocese, both now and for future generations. Please participate at Mass today and make a gift of hope.

Ways to Evangelize and Reclaim the Sense of the Sacred As Catholics, we are called to know and defend the Faith. We are also called to set a good example for others. The following suggestions are some personal acts of good examples: Make the Sign of the Cross before and after saying Grace aloud in public as well as in private. 1. Arrive on time for Mass and do not depart early, before the priest exits. 2. Dress as nicely as possible for Mass, especially Sunday Mass, as if you are going to a nice restaurant for dinner. 3. Limit talking in church to what is absolutely necessary. Next week, I will provide a few more suggestions. Thanks Deacon Matt

IN KEEPING WITH OUR TRADITION, WE AT INCARNATION CATHOLIC SCHOOL: Inspire disciples of Christ, Challenge each individual to a be a life-long learner, and Strive to live our Catholic faith through service to each other and the community. --------------------------------------------------------5111 Webb Road * Tampa, FL 33615 * www.icstampa.org * Tel: (813) 884-4502 * Fax: (813) 885-3734

As a Catholic school, we believe that each student is unique and learns in different ways. This year we began using a Blended Learning approach in the math classroom to support this belief. Students rotate through various stations including a small group instruction station, a technology station using iPads, and a pair practice station. Students receive individualized attention, frequent feedback on progress, and opportunities to interact with 21st century learning tools. Our students are growing in their math and critical thinking skills as they progress through the school year! As one of the ICS Varsity and JV soccer coaches, it was a great honor to witness our student athletes grow in their soccer skills and faith this season. We ended with a great record on the scoreboard, but more importantly, our students showed their true Catholic and ICS spirit in the way they conducted themselves on and off the field. Our student athletes showed sportsmanship in their interactions with other teams, inspiring leadership as they taught their younger teammates fundamental skills, and focus on academics by placing their schoolwork as the priority. I am honored to be a teacher and coach at ICS where the students, faculty, and administration are deeply rooted in the Catholic faith! —Ms. Meagan Koeth, Middle School Math Teacher Sixth graders have been hard at work writing essays for the Knights of Columbus essay contest. This year students were to focus on religious freedom. This was a great opportunity for students to make a connection between their schoolwork, the events in the world around them, and their faith. In order to fully appreciate the topic, we began by discussing how our country was founded on religious freedom. We then focused on the importance of tolerance in our society. Students realized how fortunate they are to live in a country that affords them the opportunity to attend a Catholic school, pray in public when they are out to dinner with their family, or even to be allowed to wear a cross or religious medal around their neck. They were also able to appreciate that while they are free to practice their faith, it is amazing to live in a country that allows people to be free to practice whatever religion they believe in without the fear of punishment or persecution. We thank the Knights of Columbus for giving students the chance to focus on their faith through this amazing opportunity. Sixth graders worked through the writing process of planning, writing, editing, and rewriting. Most importantly they made real world connections to their faith and realized how blessed they are to be Catholic and live in the United States of America. —Mrs. Denise Sheldon, 6th Grade Language Arts & Religion Teacher

Our Lent Project Our Lent Project this year is to support Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Nursing Home in Higuey, Dominican Republic. The nursing home is run by the Congregation of the Cardinal Sancha Charity. The nuns take care of 37 elderly residents who have been abandoned and are without family. The home provides shelter, clothing, food, medications and medical care. All this is possible through the generosity of concerned people. $75.00 covers the cost of 2 months of care for a resident. We ask that you prayerfully consider a donation. Mission Committee members will be at the front of the church after Mass to answer your questions.

Él no dice: “No coman. No cocinen. No compren ropa”. Él dice: “No te preocupes”. LECTURAS DE LA SEMANA Lunes:

Sir 17:20-24; Sal 32 (31):1-2, 5-7; Mc 10:17-27 Martes: Sir 35:1-12; Sal 50 (49):5-8, 14, 23; Mc 10:28-31 Miércoles: Jl 2:12-18; Sal 51 (50):3-6ab, 12-14, 17; 2 Cor 5:20 — 6:2; Mt 6:1-6, 16-18 Jueves: Dt 30:15-20; Sal 1:1-4, 6; Lc 9:22-25 Viernes: Is 58:1-9a; Sal 51 (50):3-6ab, 18-19; Mt 9:14-15 Sábado: Is 58:9b-14; Sal 86 (85):1-6; Lc 5:27-32 Domingo: Gn 2:7-9; 3:1-7; Sal 51 (50):3-6, 12-13, 17; Rom 5:12-19 [12, 17-19]; Mt 4:1-11

LECTURAS DE HOY Primera lectura — Dios nunca te olvidará (Isaías 49:14-15) Salmo — Descansa sólo en Dios, alma mía (Salmo 62 [61]). Segunda lectura — No juzgues, sólo Dios juzgará (1 Corintios 4:1-5). Evangelio — Dios alimenta a las aves y viste a las flores. No estés ansioso; Dios conoce todas tus necesidades (Mateo 6:24-34).
