I pray these lines find all doing well and staying warm. As I write it is a Monday morning and it is COLD in my office – two of my walls go right to the outside and I’m guessing there is no insulation. I know I will long for this in the heat of summer, but I am in a jacket, and the mask is actually a way for me to stay warm LOL. Today’s Gospel is not an easy one to hear, and there is a concept we need to fully understand. Jesus reminds us that it is our faith in Him that brings us into eternal life. He really cannot be any more clear -” Whoever believes in him will not be condemned, but whoever does not believe has already been condemned, because he has not believed in the only Son of God.” Our faith is what saves us – not necessarily our behavior. All of us are sinners, not one of us gets it right all the time, and none of us deserve salvation. However, it is given to us who have faith. To clarify further, one does not get into Heaven by being a “good guy” or a “loving woman.” These individuals can be the salt of the earth, but if they have no faith then they do not have what is needed to enter into eternity. And this is not God condemning them at all, it is God simply respecting their decisions. If they choose not to believe in God or Heaven, then it ends right here. That being plainly stated we also know that God is more loving than we will ever be. HE loves your loved ones more than you possibly can so MAYBE they might make it – that is God’s perfect decision but are you willing to take that chance. It really becomes our responsibility to let our loved ones know about Jesus and get them to know the truth that we already know and live. God depends on us to do this. Is it easy? Heck NO!! But think about it, we will get to Heaven because we believe and live our lives the best way we can. Our loved ones are the only ones who can get themselves into Heaven through Faith. In order for us to have peace, we have to know that we did all we could to also get our loved ones into Heaven. God Bless You! Love, Fr. Mike

Lose the weight of sin “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life.” – John 3:16 When you ask someone what their favorite bible verse is, many will go straight to John 3:16— "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish but might have eternal life.” But in the reading from John’s Gospel this weekend, we also must examine the surrounding scriptures, which might not be as pleasant and hopeful. I’m confident that everyone desires a good life and to go to heaven when our life is over. However, a reality of our human nature is sin. While we desire strive to live a good life, we are often pulled into the darkness of this world—a darkness that on the surface seems to satisfy some need that we have. However, it is short lived, and we soon find out that sin fails to satisfy. Why do we hide things from others? It’s likely because we know that whatever we did is not good for us, and we would be embarrassed if it became known. Adam and Eve hid in the garden from God, for they wanted to keep their secret and disobedience from God. But we know that God sees and knows everything. We can’t hide from Him. Sometimes we do things that we know are wrong in secrecy—lust, adultery, stealing and false witness. When those secrets grow larger, they can become an anchor for our soul and can lead us deeper into the abyss of despair. Unfortunately, many may remain in that darkness and do not even know it. We need to free ourselves from the weight of sin, and get out of those shadows, so that we can live in the light. We are called to live in the light of Christ and called to be light for others. Take some time this Lent to see where you are in your life and in your relationship with God. If you have sins that are weighing you down, free yourself from them by going to the Sacrament of Reconciliation “so that you might not perish but might have eternal life.” -Bishop Gregory Parkes

LECTURAS DE LA SEMANA Lunes: Is 65:17-21; Sal 30 (29):2, 4-6, 11-13b; Jn 4:43-54 Martes: Ez 47:1-9, 12; Sal 46 (45):2-3, 5-6, 8-9; Jn 5:1-16 Miércoles: Is 49:8-15; Sal 145 (144):8-9, 13cd-14, 17-18; Jn 5:17 -30 Jueves: Ex 32:7-14; Sal 106 (105):19-23; Jn 5:31-47 Viernes: 2 Sm 7:4-5a, 12-14a, 16; Sal 89 (88):2-5, 27, 29; Rm 4:13:16-18, 22; Mt 1:16, 18-21, 24a o Lc 2:41-51a Sábado: Jer 11:18-20; Sal 7:2-3, 9bc-12; Jn 7:40-53 Domingo: Jer 31:31-34; Sal 51 (50):3-4, 12-15; Heb 5:7-9; Jn 12:20-33
