Palm Sunday
The Gospel this Sunday is the reading of the Lord’s passion from Mark’s Gospel as we celebrate Palm Sunday and enter into Holy Week. Palm Sunday is one of only two days when we, the congregation, actively participate in the proclamation of the Gospel. The other occasion is Good Friday. As we read the account of the Lord’s passion – how Jesus was betrayed by Judas, one of His followers – how He was falsely accused – how Peter (the rock) denied Him three times – how He was brutally beaten and scourged and made to carry His own cross – and finally how He was put to death by crucifixion, our hearts are naturally filled with sadness. When you think about it, there are times in our lives when we betray Jesus through our actions, times when we deny our identity as Christians by not standing up for our faith, and times when we fail to love Christ by failing to love others. It takes courage to live as a Christian in today’s world, and to be true to the faith. It takes courage to stand up for the dignity of all human life from conception to natural death. It takes courage to promote and defend marriage as a union of one man and one woman for life. It takes courage to forgive someone who has hurt or offended us. When we do so and face rejection or ridicule, we can unite our suffering with that of Jesus on the cross. While we are sorry that Jesus had to die for the forgiveness of sin – for the forgiveness of our sins, we should also be filled with gratitude that He did so. As we reflect upon the Lord’s passion this Sunday, consider what the Lord has done for us – what the Lord has done for you, and how we will respond to Him by living lives of love and gratitude. Bishop Gregory Parkes, Diocese of St. Petersburg
I pray these lines find all doing well and staying healthy. Happy Palm Sunday! At a time of year when so many people come to Mass it is such a shame that we remain closed and the world becomes, in a sense, isolated. It is incredible to think that the word “crowd” can now be likened to being arrested. The world, as we know it, has taken a turn that nobody saw coming. So often in reflection I remember being in crowds; on Palm Sunday, Easter, at Disney and even grouping all together with family to fit into the yearly family photo. I do pray we see that again real soon. That family photo happens every October when I travel for vacation to Massachusetts, I pray that will once again be a reality. Today in our Gospel, Jesus is in a crowd. He is riding upon a donkey and entering Jerusalem with no social distancing. All are right up to him; all want to be near and cheer Jesus as he makes his entrance into Jerusalem. They know Jesus is gonna make a difference in their lives and they want to be a part of it. Jesus riding in in triumph had to make Him feel good, the people He loved were showing affection and love back. He still knew that a great sadness was going to follow but He knew God was with Him; this was part of the road that He was called to. Today we are on a road that we would rather not walk. We realize that in a very real way, freedoms we once took for granted are no longer allotted to us. Jesus was bound on Holy Thursday night and led to a place He did not know. Today we are walking unknown territory and it can be scary but having Jesus in our lives now, in our lives today - makes this tolerable because we are going through this with Him, we are not alone! From here we all know that Jesus’ suffering leads to glory. Trusting in Jesus really makes what could be a hysterical time – tolerable, He loves us, He is with us and He is gonna see us through this. This week’s joke, “Why did the scarecrow win an award?” Because, he was out-standing in his field! God Bless Your week and please be assured of my prayers!! -Love, Fr. Mike

DIOCESE OF ST. PETERSBURG Office of the Bishop
March 31, 2020 Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, We are living through a dif icult time. Many of you have concerns about health, inances, family and even your faith. I know, from the depths of my heart, how dif icult it is for you to be separated from the Holy Eucharist, the source and summit of our faith. That’s why I know it’s hard to imagine a Holy Week and an Easter celebration without going to Church and gathering for the celebration of Mass. Yet, this is the reality we are facing. I have provided guidance to our priests on how to observe Holy Week and Easter during this time in which public Masses are suspended for the safety and well-being of our community. They will do what they can, in light of their constraints, to share this Holy Week and Easter with you. It’s important to stay connected with your local parish by phone, through their website, social media sites, by email or app, to ind out the latest information. They will inform you of opportunities that are available to experience these Holy Days with reverence, joy and prayer. I encourage you and your family to view the Mass online – either your local parish celebration or – if that is not possible – the Cathedral of St. Jude the Apostle will live stream all of the Holy Week liturgies, including the Chrism Mass. Visit www.CatholicMassOnline.org to learn more about Mass schedules and other details. The diocesan website, www.dosp.org/coronavirus/keepfaithalive offers suggestions for living the faith at home with your loved ones and ideas for celebrating Holy Week and Easter at home. I also have a special message for those of you who have been preparing to enter the Catholic Church at the Easter Vigil. I have granted permission to our pastors to delay the celebration of the three Sacraments of Initiation to another time outside of the Easter Vigil. May you keep close to Christ during this time of preparation and trust that God’s plan for you will be ful illed! I commit to keeping all of you informed as updates develop. Please know that you are all in my prayers each day. In your kindness, I also humbly ask for your prayers. May God bless you. Sincerely yours in Christ,
Most Reverend Gregory Parkes Bishop of St. Petersburg

Message from OneBlood Regarding Safety Protocols Here are the steps we are taking and all the new safety protocols put in place to keep all donors safe while ensuring we collect enough blood to also keep the community safe. First, we are no longer able to accommodate walk-ins. Appointments are Required. Make an appointment online at www.oneblooddonor.org and use the sponsor code #11866. You can also call 1-888-936-6283 and be sure to use sponsor code #11866.
It Is Safe to Donate Blood?
The U.S. Surgeon General and the FDA have stated that it remains safe to donate blood and that it is safe to attend blood drives. All blood centers are regulated by the FDA and must follow strict guidelines on how they operate. OneBlood meets all FDA guidelines and all team members follow strict safety protocols including: ♦
All OneBlood phlebotomists wear medical gloves that are changed for each donation.
♦
All donor-touched areas and equipment are disinfected with hospital-grade cleansers after every donation. This includes, donor beds, registration tablets, blood-pressure cuff and hemoglobin sensors
♦
A sterile collection set is used for every donation.
♦
Every donor receives a mini-physical that includes a temperature check to ensure donors are healthy and well on the day of donation.
Only people who are healthy are eligible to donate blood. The CDC has told us that phlebotomists do not need face masks at this point. However, we have some on order and will have them available in a few days for those staff members who would like peace of mind. It really is more for their protection than the donors. All our employees are being monitored and temperature-tested every day before leaving the office for a drive and again mid-drive. Any employee with a temperature over 99.5 is not allowed to continue working. ♦
Social Distancing at Blood Drives OneBlood has implemented additional social distancing safety protocols including: • Only a certain number of people will be permitted on the Big Red Bus at any one time. Donors will be asked to provide their cell phone number so they can wait in their car or outside the bloodmobile. They will be called when it is their turn to come aboard the bus to donate blood. You can also check out www.oneblood.org which has videos that can be watched to show what we are doing to keep everyone safe. Having a ready blood supply is vital to our community. By making blood donation a habit, you are helping ensure a ready blood supply 365 days a year. Donating blood has been deemed an essential service by the government.

No me siento avergonzado (Isaías 50:4-7). Salmo — Dios mío, Dios mío, ¿por qué me has abandonado? (Salmo 22 [21]).
